MYBA Charter Show motor and sailing yachts on display

Everything you need to know about the MYBA Charter Show 2024

With the 2024 Mediterranean yachting season on the horizon, the much-anticipated MYBA Charter Show is preparing to return to Marina Molo Vecchio in Genoa, Italy, on 22-25 April. Founded in 1984, 2024 marks a significant milestone for MYBA as the worldwide yachting association celebrates its 40th anniversary. With the show launched in 1990 and managed by MYBA since 2001, the MYBA Charter Show is now in its 34th edition. The renowned trade event is poised to unveil the most sought-after yachts on the charter market to leading charter professionals and serves as a pivotal platform for industry players to connect and strategise ahead of the bustling season.

BOAT delves into what awaits attendees at this year's show, from the revamped layout and the impressive lineup of superyachts on display to the much-loved annual Superyacht Chefs' Competition.

New year, new layout

This year, the MYBA Charter Show introduces a dynamic new layout aimed at maximising exposure for exhibitors and enhancing the experience for visitors. The redesigned walkways guide attendees through the show, ensuring they can navigate the various offerings without missing a beat. Divided into eight steps, the show boasts amenities catering to every aspect of the charter industry. Additionally, a dedicated bar for relaxation between viewings and a crew lounge, bar and meeting area elevate the experience. The hospitality lounge and seminar rooms further enhance the networking potential of the event, providing ample opportunities for industry professionals to connect and collaborate.

The 2024 show once again promises a series of exclusive events designed to foster connections within the yacht charter community. The festivities kick off with the Captains' Dinner on Sunday 21 April, sponsored by Pesto Sea Group and Catalano Shipping Services, promising an evening of fine dining and socialising. Additionally, there will be a Show Opening Cocktail on Tuesday 23 April, sponsored by Begum Yachting, at the Villa Lo Zerbino. Notably, the Exhibitors' Party is poised to facilitate closer connections among participants, with a more centralised layout at the heart of the exhibiting area.

The coolest charter yachts on display

Ranging from 20 to 100 metres in length, the MYBA Charter Show is set to showcase some of the best charter yachts currently on the market. Amongst the standout vessels, the 97.2-metre, Lürssen -built Carinthia VII is the largest yacht in attendance, represented by Fraser .

Additionally, Burgess will proudly represent two of the largest yachts on display - the 85.6-metre, Derecktor -built Aquila and the Freire Shipyard , 73.6-metre Naia . As well as this, attendees can expect the Golden Yachts -built, 77.7-metre Malia , represented by Northrop & Johnson , and the Amels , 76.6-metre Boadicea , represented by Yachting Partners International .

The All Hands On Deck Competition

The popular All Hands On Deck Competition is set to make a return at the 2024 show. The event provides an opportunity for crew members to showcase their skills and readiness for the upcoming season, demonstrating their ability to deliver exceptional service under any circumstances. The competition brief presents a unique challenge: "The weather has turned, the water toys are out of commission, and yet you have to ‘wow’ your guests for the day. On board is a family consisting of grandparents in their 70s, parents in their 40s and three children (aged eight, 12 and 15)." In just 30 minutes, participating crews must impress judges with their creativity and hospitality, transforming potential setbacks into selling points for charters.

The stakes are high as crews vie for recognition, with the winning, filmed presentations shared with brokers and agents attending the show. With a maximum of seven entries accepted per size category, crews are urged to register early to secure their spot and maximise their chances of success.

The Superyacht Chefs' Competition

Visitors and crews will be thrilled to know that the beloved annual Superyacht Chefs' Competition will return to the MYBA Charter Show 2024. This year, superyacht chefs are invited to showcase their culinary creativity under the theme of 'An Italian Fusion Dinner Party', paying homage to the show's return to Italy. Tasked with preparing a three-course dinner, chefs are challenged to fuse Italian cuisine with the flavours of another country of their choice.

But the culinary creativity doesn't stop there. In parallel, interior crews will engage in a competition of their own, tasked with crafting a table setting that symbolises the essence of the Italian fusion dinner theme. As an added twist, they must also provide subtle clues to the judges regarding the cuisine of the second country they have chosen to incorporate into the fusion experience.

Registrations open on a first-come, first-served basis, so crews are encouraged to secure their spots early. For detailed guidelines and competition briefs, competition registration or show tickets, visit the MYBA Charter Show 2024 website or contact the team for more information .

All Eyes on Barcelona as the MYBA Charter Show 2023 Comes to Town

myba yacht charter show

With just one week to go until the start of the MYBA Charter Show, which marks the beginning of the Mediterranean charter season, all eyes are on Barcelona as the industry-only event brings an impressive fleet of superyachts, brokerage firms and yacht crews to Marina Port Vell. Visitors and exhibitors can expect a whole host of social entertainment, workshops and awards ceremonies to enjoy, as well as ample networking opportunities and competitions designed to encourage and uphold high standards across all spheres of the superyacht industry.

A by-invitation only Show Opening Cocktail will be held on Tuesday 25 April at the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC), with long-standing supporters of the show and platinum sponsors BWA Yachting in attendance. “BWA Yachting has long supported the MYBA Charter Show, and our involvement with the event stretches back almost 15 years during which time it has forged deep-rooted connections with this important yachting organisation, its members and other long-time exhibitors,” says Paschalis Patsiokas, CEO of BWA Yachting. “MYBA’s continuous effort to provide for our industry needs, which is also our mission, makes BWA Yachting a natural partner of their show. We are confident that the 2023 edition will be a great one."

Begüm Yachting is also a platinum sponsor of the show, sponsoring the Captains' Safety Briefing & Welcome Dinner, with both events scheduled to be held on Sunday April 23 within the world-class facilities of Marina Port Vell. The Wellness Area is also back this year with sponsorship by Angels On Board.

Attending Yachts at MYBA 2023

There are currently 26 superyachts signed up to this year’s show, with more to be signed up in due course. Big names include the 90.1m Nero, 76.6m Boadicea and 70m Joy, as well as the 73.5m Siren. Built by Nobiskrug, Siren is made for outdoor living with infinite sunbathing options, outdoor cinema and a choice of al fresco areas. The sun deck is the yacht's hub during the day with sun pads at every angle and a refreshing jacuzzi. Guests can take a morning yoga class or enjoy an early evening massage before they settle on the sofas to enjoy a movie as the area is transformed into an atmospheric outdoor cinema.

Siren can accommodate 12 guests in six cabins. The master suite is spacious with full length windows, a fold-down balcony and an office. The walk-in wardrobe leads into his and hers bathrooms with Lalique fittings. There is also the option of assembling a fold-down bed in the office area to create additional family accommodation. There are four ensuite cabins on the lower deck (1 VIP, 2 double cabins, 1 twin cabin) and a further double cabin is located on the bridge deck, with an elevator connecting all three interior levels.

Also at the show will be the 50.75m Aresteas delivered in 2017 by Yildizlar and characterised by a luxurious sense of detail throughout. With a  high volume interior that allows you to live as comfortably on board as you would on land, she can accomodate up to 12 guests in six staterooms (1 master suite, 2 VIP suites, 2 twin cabins and 1 double cabin), all with ensuite bathrooms. Her  three decks offer an exceptional blend of quality features: a fitness room, a wellness area that includes a sauna with a Himalayan salt wall and a massage room, and a cinema.

MYBA Superyacht Chefs' Competition

The MYBA Superyacht Chefs' Competition is also back, and this year sustainability and foraged fare is the overarching theme. The challenge for the superyacht chefs will be to create a guest dinner party using as many foraged items as they can in three courses (starter, main and dessert), with a minimum of two foraged food items included in each dish.

The chief steward/esses will need to prepare a rustic dinner party table setting also using elements of foraged and upcycled items in their decor. Details concerning both competitions have already been uploaded to the Competition section of the show's official website and can be downloaded.

MYBA chef comp 2

It is certainly a challenging theme and one that requires careful planning and preparation.  The foraged food items can be gathered over time (dried, frozen, fermented or preserved in any way). They can also be gathered at the time of the competition, so a dvance notice ensures that the superyacht chefs won't find themselves in a pickle.

Seminars at MYBA 2023

This year’s Gold Sponsor is H&V Yachting, who will be conducting a seminar on Tuesday April 25. This will be a ‘Discussion on EU VAT and Customs’ current hot topics and will be held from 08:30 to 09:30 in the Seminar Room which is located on the 1st floor of The Gallery building.

H&V Yachting was founded in 2019 and based on a simple yet innovative idea: providing all customs, tax and VAT services for superyachts under one hat. H&V Yachting was an immediate success and has expanded its team, client base, range of services and geographical footprint ever since.

Star destination: Australia

Superyacht Australia, the peak body for the Australian superyacht industry, will be the sponsor of the inaugural Star Destination activities during the 2023 MYBA Charter Show. The aim of this particular sponsorship is to highlight one amazing superyacht destination, and all that it has to offer, at every MYBA Charter Show.

Australia has an abundance of iconic destinations waiting to be discovered by the global superyacht fleet including visiting Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsundays, diving in the Great Barrier Reef, celebrating New Year's Eve in Sydney Harbour and exploring the remote Kimberley Coast in Western Australia. But there is so much more to Australia and those who attend the 2023 MYBA Charter Show will have the opportunity to expand their horizons, so make sure to add the repeat short Star Destination Seminars to your agenda when the time comes.

Whitsundays 1200x630

With a dynamic and highly adventurous generation entering the charter market and restrictions easing, Australia is finally establishing itself as a world-class charter destination. Foreign flagged charter is now available in Australia making it the perfect base for a charter yacht in the South Pacific region and the Australian superyacht industry is sparing no effort to ensure that the country has a brilliant future.

MYBA Charter Show 2023: Everything to Expect

By Heather Collier

Held annually at the end of April, the MYBA charter show is an incredible opportunity for the yachting world to come together in the heart of Barcelona.

Marking the beginning of the Mediterranean charter season, the MYBA Yacht Show in Barcelona is a true celebration of yachting.

The show has expressed its excitment for the next installment in the coming weeks, stating: " After a transitional year, we are already working to ensure the success of the next event which will once again be held in Marina Port Vell Barcelona. The pandemic prompted all of us to reevaluate what is important in our lives and in many cases, including ours, to ask ourselves what we can redesign, what we can do to follow a more sustainable path instead of simply returning to a new normal. We have embraced the learnings and are ready to implement them in order to organise a spectacular Show. We very much look forward to welcoming you in 2023 for the 33rd MYBA Charter Show !"

The industry-only event brings a breath-taking fleet of superyachts, brokerage firms and yacht crews together. Visitors and exhibitors can expect social entertainment, workshops and awards ceremonies to indulge in fun and excitement, as well as ample networking opportunities.

Curated by the MYBA, the show represents the association’s commitment to encouraging and upholding high standards across all spheres of the superyacht industry.

Previous shows enjoyed 16 successful years in Genoa, Italy, before relocating to the stunning Marina Port Vell in Barcelona last year.

In its 32nd edition, the 2022 show welcomed over seventy exhibitors and brokers, with some of the largest names in the yachting industry in attendance.

Attendees took delight in thrilling social entertainment, workshops, and award ceremonies, including a Superyacht Chefs’ competition – all wrapped in inspiring networking opportunities, and an underlying commitment to sustainability throughout to help minimise the impact of its activity on the environment.

The newly-rnovated Gallery also boasts A VIP room for meetings and networking. Presided over by a 6.5-metre travertine table, theroom is perfect for holding meetings or boards of directors in a unique environment. This space also has state-of-the-art audiovisual systems by Bang & Olufsen.

Marta Tuñí, Director of Marketing and Communication at Marina Port Vell Barcelona explains:  "this VIP room is perfectly prepared to host meetings in a unique environment in the city, we are sure that it will be a great success among companies in Barcelona" .

Some of the largest yachts in attendance at this year's show include Corsair's 90-metre  NERO , an incredible vessel whose sleek lines and classic exterior heralds the golden age of private yachting. She will also be in the company of Amels ' 76-metre BOADICEA , Nobiskrug 's 73-metre SIREN and Feadship 's 70-metre JOY, all of which are set to stun on another yachting world stage.

Nestled right in the heart of one of the world’s most iconic cities Barcelona,  Marina Port Vell will once again showcase its first-class location, famous for its rich history and impeccable hospitality; providing guests with an exceptional experience from the moment they arrive.

This year's show will take place between the 24th and 27th of April 2023.

"After a transitional year, we are already working to ensure the success of the next event which will once again be held in Marina Port Vell Barcelona. The pandemic prompted all of us to reevaluate what is important in our lives and in many cases, including ours, to ask ourselves what we can redesign, what we can do to follow a more sustainable path instead of simply returning to a new normal. ‘Below Deck’ Sails Into a New Era

With a different captain at the helm and new production elements, the reality show about charter yachts is switching up its style.

A man in a crew member suit stands behind a bar and tends to flowers in a vase.

By Shivani Gonzalez

Starting a new season of “ Below Deck ” can be similar to returning to summer camp as a kid — you know it’s going to be fun and that you’ll be in the same environment, but some of the people will be different and you’re not quite sure what the vibes will be.

This time around, in particular, feels that way because for the first time in the show’s 11-season run, Captain Lee Rosbach is no longer at the helm. It’s a pivotal moment for a franchise that has become one of the most popular entities in the sprawling universe of reality TV since premiering on Bravo in 2013 . The show’s appeal was built on endless romances between various crew members (“boatmances,” as they came to be known), horrible charter guests and some sort of passive-aggressive fight about how many shackles of the anchor chain should be in the water. And there was always Rosbach presiding over the drama as he trudged around the boat, reeling off one liners like “I’m madder than a pissed-on chicken” and “we screwed the pooch so many times we should have a litter of puppies running around.”

At the center of the show now is Kerry Titheradge (the stern yet goofy captain of “Below Deck Adventure” fame), who is managing the Motor Yacht Saint David with the cheeky chief stew Fraser Olender by his side.

With that change in captain, the energy on the boat — both onscreen and off — is different, according to Olender.

“Lee has a no B.S. attitude, which I love with him,” Olender said in an interview. “With Kerry, he taught me a lot and sort of forced to me confront issues directly with my team, work them out, as opposed to making executive decisions too soon.”

This shift in management style changes the central conflict — whereas the drama once focused on the captain swiftly kicking out any unpleasant crew member (as we might have seen with Rosbach), the drama now focuses on the whole crew trying to get along (since Titheradge gives people those second chances).

Additionally, Olender noted that the captain’s relationship with the crew can also affect the drama on board.

“Captains absolutely do get involved, whether they know it or not,” Olender said, adding that for the crew, everything is about “trying to impress your captain.”

This phenomenon plays out early in the new season when the lead deckhand, Ben Willoughby, called out a fellow crew member over the radios about not wearing a life vest — something he easily could have done in private. The drama that followed became an interpersonal conflict between the two of them, both with the ultimate goal of impressing Titheradge. (Of course, the two deckhands had kissed on the previous crew night out, which is more in line with the “Below Deck” drama viewers are used to.)

For “Below Deck” showrunners, the changeovers in the cast allowed them to rethink what the show would look like.

From the season premiere, it was immediately apparent that Rosbach’s absence wasn’t the only change this season: The filming is sleeker, the daily, multicourse meals prepared by the chef are given their own glamour shots and the cameras sometimes cut to the perspectives of yachties running around on deck and through the galley.

“Our showrunner, Lauren Simms, is an avid consumer of all different kinds of media,” Noah Samton, a senior vice president of unscripted current production for NBCUniversal, said in an interview. “She pitches us different ideas on how to stylistically evoke different feelings and change the mood a little bit of ‘Below Deck’ without removing what really works.”

Moving through the rest of the season, and potentially through seasons to come, Olender is aiming to bring a cutthroat management style while also bringing affection for his stews, all with his signature British humor.

On Bravo’s side, there are changes in the works for the other “Below Deck” spinoffs — including “Sailing Yacht,” “Mediterranean” and “Down Under” — which collectively, have 26 seasons. Specifically, Samton said that “Down Under” is currently filming and that even though fans should be ready to see new things, the show will stay true to its original concept.

“These are real yachties doing a real job so you have to stay within those confines because the audience isn’t going to want anything that is too produced or fake,” Samton said. “So we have to find ways to reinvent while staying true to the original concept of the show.”

And as Olender said: “I’m sure that every year if I were to work with this franchise again, that I’ll be thrown a collection of total chaotic and disastrous stews — that’s what makes it watchable.”

An earlier version of this article misquoted Fraser Olender, the chief stew of “Below Deck.” He said, “I also feel like Kerry this season. ... Lee has a no B.S. attitude, which I love with him,” not “I feel like Kerry this season, as opposed to Lee, has a no B.S. attitude, which I love with him.”

These are the biggest and most expensive boats at 2024's Palm Beach yacht show

These are the biggest and most expensive boats at 2024's Palm Beach yacht show

  • The Palm Beach International Boat Show kicks off later this week.
  • Eight megayachts are expected to be on display for would-be buyers and charter customers.

The Palm Beach International Boat Show — the yacht world's flashiest event stateside — is returning this year with over 800 boats for both deep-pocked potential owners and window shoppers to peruse.

While it's impossible to know what exactly will be on display until the show begins on Thursday, it's expected that eight megayachts — generally defined as ships over 60 meters long — will be docked at the show and at nearby marinas like the Rybovich Marina in the ritzy Florida town.

Some of these are for sale at eye-popping prices, but others are available to if in case you fancy living like a billionaire for a week or two this summer (and if you have six figures to spare on a vacation).

These are the eight biggest yachts that will be at the Palm Beach International Boat Show, in size order.

Nero: 90.1 meters

These are the biggest and most expensive boats at 2024's Palm Beach yacht show

Seanna: 64.5 meters

Price: $54,000,000 (or from $462,000 a week to charter) Special features: marble foyer, movie room, sundeck pool

The recently refurbished Seanna is available for sale and charter.

Her indoor-outdoor gym is on sea level so that passengers can take a dip after a session with the onboard personal trainer. There's also a sundeck pool, a helipad, a two-room massage facility, and, for the more cerebral guests, a library with an electric fireplace.

There are a number of toys on board, including a popular water trampoline and two WaveRunners.

Come Together: 60 meters

Price: $65,000,000 Special Features: DJ and videographer on board, ice bath, sauna

Next-to-new yacht Come Together is looking for a new owner after doing charters during the 2023 season.

The Beatles' influence is evident beyond the yacht's name, with guitars dotting the sky lounge and a crewmember who doubles as a DJ. There's also an outdoor cinema and bar for entertainment and an ice bath and sauna for the day after the party. The owner's suite has a private study and lounge, and each guest cabin has its own ensuite.

The sale includes a number of toys, like Jet Skis, kayaks, and Seabobs.

Screen Rant

10 below deck charter guests who will never return to the franchise.

While the charter guests who appear on Below Deck have a great time while filming the show, many aren't invited back for a number of reasons.

  • Some charter guests on Below Deck have caused unnecessary drama and won't likely return due to bad behavior.
  • Captain Glenn Shephard from Below Deck Sailing Yacht faced backlash from Barrie, who called him two-faced.
  • Former guest Dr. Francis Martinis will not return to Below Deck after he was arrested for faking prescriptions.

The Below Deck franchise has featured many charter guests since 2013, many of whom will never return . The Bravo series focuses on expensive charters with wealthy guests who have attitude problems and over-the-top demands. That includes Charter guest Alexis Bellino, who boarded Captain Lee Rosbach’s yacht with her boyfriend at the time, Andy Bohn. She was disrespectful and made everyone uncomfortable with her and Andy's PDA. She even insulted crew members after featuring on the show.

Like Alexis, Delores Flora from Below Deck season 8 was a terrible guest. Not only did she misbehave, but she also got drunk and s wam while intoxicated, which is not only not allowed, it frightened the crew members. Delores got kicked out of the yacht the next day. These guests created unnecessary drama on the boat and will likely never return like a few others from the franchise.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now

8 barrie & tony, below deck sailing yacht.

Barrie and Tony Drewitt Barlow had a decent time in the Below Deck Sailing Yacht seasons 2 and 3. Despite that, they left with a bitter taste because of Captain Glenn Shephard. In 2021, Barrie participated in a podcast, Pita Party: The Podcast , where he claimed that Captain Glenn bothered him while using his phone .

Barrie said, “he (Captain Glenn) was a two-face b*stard,” adding that he just didn’t like his presence.

7 Frank Fay

Below deck mediterranean.

In Below Deck Mediterranean season 7, Charter guest Frank Fay had a thing for second stew Kyle Viljoen. He pursued him on the yacht, but unfortunately, their relationship didn’t last. Frank will likely never return to the series as long as Captain Sandy Yawn allows Kyle to work for her. Even if Kyle quits, Frank wouldn’t want to be in an environment that would remind him of his failed relationship.

6 Erica Rose

Erica Rose appeared on Below Deck Sailing Yacht two seasons in a row. Erica was highly offensive toward the crew member, as well as her husband, Charles Sanders, and to make things worse, she left the crew with a measly tip , leading fans to slam her on social media. Ultimately, Erica had to apologize for her bad attitude but never returned to give the crew the tip they deserved. Nobody on Below Deck Sailing Yacht would ever want to return.

5 Justin Guarini

Justin Guarini’s time on Below Deck Sailing Yacht was not dramatic at all; however, he’ll probably never return to the series. Justin wouldn’t return because he wasn't the primary guest. He joined his friend, Kim, who wanted to enjoy a luxury yacht trip. It was more of a one-and-done deal. Secondly, nobody recognized him at all. Viewers later realized who he was and how he was the runner-up on American Idol season 1. Justin is a theatre artist and has made a name for himself. However, it was embarrassing that so many fans had no clue who he was .

Below Deck: 8 Charter Guests With The Worst Attitudes

4 johnny damon.

Johnny Damon’s time at Below Deck Med was full of explosive moments. Once, he sent the food back, citing that the experience wasn’t “five stars.” On another occasion, his wife, Michelle, created drama by yelling at the owner of another yacht . Overall, the experience was simply terrible on both sides. Crew members didn’t love Johnny and his wife, and the couple didn’t respect the crew members. It is unlikely that Captain Sandy would want to host the couple again as long as she’s in charge.

3 Krystal Murphy

Former charter guest Krystal Murphy boarded Captain Lee’s yacht with her friends. She immediately began showing red flags, drinking, and just being a menace. Krystal fought with her friend, Chelsea, creating unnecessary drama. She even passed out and punched a friend in the face. Former Chief Stew Kate Chastain disliked serving Krystal and called her a “spoiled brat;” she wanted to throw her off the yacht. Nowadays, Krystal has seemingly become a more private person. It doesn’t seem like Krystal would want to be on TV again.

2 Steve Bradley

Below Deck fans should remember Steve Bradley as he made many appearances on the show. In Below Deck season 3, he wanted a foam party and demanded the crew to figure it out and follow his commands, acting like a king. In Below Deck season 6, Steve made more outrageous requests. Apart from being a wild guest, Steve was entitled and acted inappropriately at times . No Below Deck captain would want to host him again as he didn't come off as very likable.

1 Dr. Francis Martinis

Below deck mediterranean & below deck sailing yacht.

Dr. Francis Martinis from Below Deck Med and Below Deck Sailing Yacht has a zero chance of returning. While the former charter guest didn’t have too many issues on the show, his personal life issues will stop him from appearing on Bravo again. According to TMZ , Dr. Francis and his wife, Jessica, were arrested for filling out fake prescriptions in December 2023 . The couple used the names of Below Deck stars and got caught red-handed. The Below Deck franchise would never want to welcome felons, especially when their mugshots are all over the internet.

Below Deck airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EDT on Bravo.

Sources: Pita Party: The Podcast , Krystal Murphy /Instagram

Below Deck is a popular reality TV franchise that focuses on a group of crew members as they work on luxurious yachts and cater to their client's needs. After the original series proved to be a success, Bravo developed a handful of spinoff shows including Below Deck Selling Yacht, Below Deck Adventure, Below Deck Down Under, and Below Deck Mediterranean.
