Reviewed: Absolute Yachts Navetta 64

The bluff-bow Navetta 64 is the latest new-age trawler from Italy’s Absolute Yachts . This model’s biggest evolution from the builder’s other five Navettas is a forward-raked windshield, a feature as practical as it is stylish. The proportionally larger side windows toward the bow are now a brand signature for Absolute, creating a bold profile in concert with detailing such as the sturdy molded rail that sweeps aft to the transom from the high foredeck.

For go-anywhere cruisers, the Navetta 64 has all the appropriate design elements. A hardtop protects the flybridge, whose overhang shields not only the aft deck but also the side decks. There are booth-style seating and sunbathing space on what Absolute calls the “foredeck terrace.” There’s also an optional glazed transom—another big design departure for this model—that conceals an air-conditioned space. This area can serve as a beach-club lounge during the day or as a double-berth stateroom for occasional overnight guests (a flip-over backrest converts the mattress into a sofa). With that aft space in use as a stateroom, the Navetta 64 can sleep eight people in four en suite staterooms.

The aft space has two sliding glass doors that seal pneumatically and are RINA-certified to ensure the compartment is watertight when they’re closed. Even if, in an emergency, the space were flooded, it would not compromise the yacht, according to the builder. And the engines won’t start if the doors are left open.

In addition to the sliding doors, a watertight door from the space’s portside head leads forward to the engine room, which can be accessed through a hatch in the cockpit sole.

If you’re thinking this stern design means there’s no place for crew, you’re wrong. A crew cabin is amidships to starboard, with its own stairs descending from a door on the starboard side deck—the sort of arrangement commonplace on larger motoryachts.

The Navetta 64′s interior styling is contemporary cool with elm and walnut furniture, oak soles, and a harmonious blend of textures and sheens. The main salon includes a galley and dining table aft. A drop-down window helps open up the galley to the cockpit. Amidships is a lounge where most of the furniture is by Minotti.

Forward of the salon, the bridge is raised, giving the lounge abaft it a feeling of intimacy. There are two seats at the bridge with the helm outboard. Most instrumentation is by Garmin. The commanding position delivers clear visibility forward and to the immediate sides, particularly so to starboard, thanks to an optional side-deck glass door whose top panel opens. Cameras and a stern docking station can mitigate the lack of direct sightlines aft, and there is the option of enclosing the upper helm position, which has 360-degree views.

The owner’s stateroom is forward, several steps down from the salon. The forward-facing berth has plenty of space around it, splendid views thanks to Absolute’s signature glazing, and en suite facilities in the bow with another set of windows and opening portholes. Two other en suite staterooms occupy the amidships space on the lower deck. There’s an athwartships double to port and a twin-berth setup to starboard.

Absolute’s design team also focused on utility in the Navetta 64. The laundry room’s door is set into the same bulkhead that separates the owner’s stateroom from the rest of the accommodations, but the laundry room itself is accessed from the lower-deck lobby. There’s space for a washer/dryer and stowage for towels and linens. Another door beyond the appliances reveals a service tunnel that runs all the way forward to the chain-locker bulkhead and deep stowage compartments.

Designed for a maximum speed in the mid-to-high 20s and a fast cruise in the high teens, the Navetta 64′s standard power is twin 900 hp Volvo Penta D13-IPS1200 diesels. However, most owners have opted for the biggest machinery offered: twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta D13-IPS1350 diesels. Absolute says the optional powerplants are ideal for customers who run heavy with lots of guests and luggage, the largest possible tender, and the biggest stabilizer. Hull No. 1, the first of three Navetta 64s destined for the United States so far, has the big horses and a reported top speed of about 28 knots.

The Absolute Navetta 64 may have a trawler-inspired aesthetic, but the yacht’s fast-cruising performance, modern design elements and multifunctional spaces create a new and welcome style of cruising yacht.

Absolute Yachts 64 Navetta

From the very beginning of the design process, Absolute Yachts selects all of the details in every space meant to improve the customer experience before the boat is ever created. From the size of the windows in the bow to the angle of the amenities in the optional 'Beach Club', all of the features important to the customer are laid out first followed by the design of the boat. This ensures that nothing is compromised when it comes to the enjoyment of every space on each new model. By not confining themselves into a specific set of parameters or space and finding solutions instead of compromising, the Absolute team has achieved remarkable success in creating stylish, contemporary living spaces.

The new Absolute Navetta 64 is no exception to this process and has improved upon an already dynamic model line of the Navetta Series . One of the changes implemented from the previous models is the opening of the side wale in the cockpit which not only increases the floor area, but also gives anyone sitting in the cockpit a beautiful, unobstructed view of the ocean.

The transom also has a very exciting option. The standard Navetta 64 has a central door with two windows leading into the large storage area. As an option though, the transom area can have two full-window doors that open to a large living space complete with a convertible sofa/bed, two separate wardrobes, separate air-conditioning system, TV, stereo, fridge, head, and shower. It can literally be an additional VIP cabin that's right at the edge of the water. And there's no need to worry about water leaking into the space as Absolute has installed a pneumatic gasket that seals the door to be watertight.

Perhaps the most intriguing addition to the Navetta 64 is what Absolute has done with the cockpit doors. For the last several years the trend in yachting has been to place the galley aft near the cockpit doors with a side windows that opens for serving. Absolute has improved upon this design by including fully opening cockpit doors to extend the outdoor living area inside the salon. Combined with the large picture windows in the salon, you'll truly feel immersed in your environment.

Also unique to this new model on the flybridge is a  "perimeter guide", an optional transparent cover that allows you to close off the forward part of the flybridge during inclement weather. This is an exceptional option for boaters who spend part of their year in the Northeast and may still boat as the weather is cooling. Additionally on the flybridge is a sunroof in the hardtop that can be opened.

Aft on the flybridge is a sunbathing and entertainment terrace. Perfect for socializing or lounging in the sun's rays, this space comes equipped with an icemaker, BBQ, sink, cabinet storage for dishes, a large teak table for dining al fresco, and two L-shaped sofas. This is truly an outdoor galley and dining area with a view.

Cruising with guests for extended trips is a delight on the Absolute Navetta 64. The owner's suite is placed in the bow for multiple reasons including additional size, incredibly large windows for great views, privacy, and quietness. The owner's suite stretches the entire beam of the yacht and offers excellent storage opportunities. The en suite master bathroom is uniquely placed in the very front of the bow area which has resulted in more room, large windows with incomparable views, and again, great storage.

The VIP cabin is placed midship and offers a large double bed. This is, of course, in addition to the optional VIP cabin that can be placed in the transom area. The main VIP stateroom has a massive portside window and its own en suite bathroom. The third guest cabin in the lower deck offers two twin beds and has its own bathroom that also doubles as the day head on the boat via a separate entry.

There is a crew cabin as well on the Navetta 64 which is accessed via a door on the starboard side walkway which allows the crew movement from the engine room to the aft platform without entering the salon. The crew space is adequate for a much larger boat and definitely not an after-thought. Extra sound absorbent material was also added surrounding the engine room and crew cabin so there is maximum privacy between the crew and the guests on board.

You can expect an incredible ride with excellent fuel efficiency thanks to the Volvo Penta D13 engines. Owners have the option of selecting either 1200HP or 1350HP engines, both within the IPS 30 range. Absolute recommends the 1200HP engines for normal boating, however, the 1350HP's may be necessary should the owner choose to add a Gyro Stabilizer, heavy tenders or watertoys, or have the maximum number of guests on board frequently.

Beautiful boat

Very impressed with the quality of this boat. The spec is top of the line and we'll maintained. The toilets are fresh & clean. The route on the river through Moscow takes in many of the iconic sites of Moscow and is a great introduction. The food was nice. Wide selection. Service was pleasant. Get the iPod with audio for some interesting commentary. I recommend the 2 1/2 hour trip.

Our company organizes cruises 365 days a year. The standard return route from Gorky Park Pier to Hotel Ukraina Pier lasts two and a half hours with the pivot closer to the business center "Moscow-city" to the Kotelnicheskaya embankment without any stops. On weekends the departure time is at four p.m. and eight p.m. The boarding starts thirty minutes before the departure.

When I got on Radisson's cruise boats, I thought that it's a normal, boring river cruise, but 10 minutes later I found out I was totally wrong. What a beautiful view of the historical buildings of Moscow!!!! The statue that hung in the middle of Moskva River is amasing. Service is acceptable and waiters/waitresses are freindly and the food is in good quality.

Went with business group on dinner cruise, with guide. Really enjoyed the views after dark - seeing Red Square/The Kremlin from this vantage was great. And being on the top deck to view with no obstructions was worth the cold wind ! Kind of hard to eat and see the views at the same time, but the food was nothing special so we focused on the views. Service fine but not notable. Guide might as well have been a pre-recorded piece as there was no attempt to engage us - and it was hard to tell what building or view she was referring to as she just sort of looked in the direction of the item and spoke with monotone voice. Go for the views, not the food or service.

Great boat ride - see all the sights. The food is way better than you expect on a riverboat. This is a great 3 hour ride through Moscow with too many sights and views to name individually - take your camera!

It would be great to arrive before departure time inorder to enjoy your dinner. And spend the rest of the trip enjoying the scenic views. Our waiter was a gentleman. He spoke broken English. But he made great effort to explain some of the important buildings as we passed by. He made sure that our little girl was treated like a princess. 4 migrants are found dead and 64 are rescued as a Mauritanian boat reaches Spain's Canary Islands

BARCELONA, Spain — Four migrants were found dead and 64 were rescued when a boat from Mauritania reached Spain's Canary Islands after a dangerous Atlantic journey from West Africa, Spain’s Maritime Rescue Service said.

The migrants arrived on the island of El Hierro late on Tuesday evening, with the survivors including two women and nine minors, the service said.

In poor health, two people were transferred by helicopter to a hospital on the island of Tenerife while 14 others were taken to a local hospital on El Hierro to be treated mainly for hypothermia and dehydration, according to a post on X, formerly Twitter, by a local emergency service.

Nearly 12,000 migrants fleeing poverty, conflict and instability in West Africa have landed on the Spanish archipelago in the first two months of the year, according to Spain’s interior ministry.

That’s more than six times the number that made it to the islands last year. El Hierro, the westernmost of the Canary Islands, is bearing the brunt of arrivals.

Most migrants have been departing from the coast of Mauritania on artisanal fishing boats known as pirogues and navigating for several days against strong winds and Atlantic currents. While thousands have survived the risky journey, many die or disappear along the way with remains sometimes washing up on the other side of the Atlantic .

At least 191 migrants have been reported dead or missing so far in 2024 trying to reach the Canary Islands, according to the International Organization for Migrations Missing Migrants Project.

But that number is believed to be an undercount.

Café pushkin.

A Moscow institute is known for its impeccable fine dining Russian and French cuisine, the palatial Café Pushkin opened in 1999 and immediately attracted a loyal following among high society folk. Elaborately decorated to recreate the feel of a 19th-century aristocrat’s manor, Pushkin has become equally popular with tourists keen to soak up the stately atmosphere of pre-Revolution Russia. The menu features sophisticated interpretations of definitive Russian cuisine, with a nod to classical French techniques. The kitchen’s insistence on high-quality ingredients lifts well-known favourites to another level of complexity and refinement. The signature beef stroganoff consistently receives rave reviews, while the roasted rack of lamb is the ultimate in rich, meaty indulgence. Of course, a restaurant of this standing serves several varieties of caviar a selection of top-shelf vodkas fit for an emperor.

Despite its rather formal appearance, the Café Pushkin experience is utterly charming. The waiters dress like 19th-century servants and diners are treated like royalty, but not without a sense of fun and theatrics. Bookings well advance are recommended.

One of the best and most luxurious restaurants in Moscow.  The Estate is designed in style of baroque, classicism and renaissance. The refine painting, jewel porcelain vases, moulding, genuine Gobelene tapestries, ancient clocks and fireplaces. Two workshops of wood engravers, painters, sculptors had been manufacturing the interior’s details for six years. All here including carved lumps of modern authors’ work is of museum importance.

The menu includes dishes from Japan, European, Chinese cuisines, and fusion cuisine, as well. Alan Yao, the only chief cook who is awarded with two stars of Mishlen, is responsible here for Asian food. The music corresponds to the institution: instrumental music (harp, violin, violoncello) sounds here every evening.

This Siberian restaurant is dark and traditional. The tables are lit by small lamps with tassels, while chandeliers contribute more to mood than illumination. Mournful music plays softly, the sound absorbed by the heavy tablecloths and all the soft furnishings. The menu is a treat for the adventurous. You might start with pate of polar partridge, then go for the sweet grilled meat of Altay yak with tomato and mustard sauce; or the gamey richness of minced meat of Sayan bear with cream-cowberry sauce and buckwheat.

Grand Café Dr. Zhivago

This ornate brasserie across from the Kremlin is Russian kitsch, with oversized statues, bright red chairs, white walls and colorful ceilings. It feels anachronistic, yet it’s the creation of a modern restaurateur, Alexander Rappoport.

There’s a lightness of touch in the dishes on a long menu celebrating Russian favorites from dumplings and pickled cabbage through to goose stew with cowberry. It’s especially good for breakfast, which includes more than 20 egg dishes and about a dozen types of porridge.

Erwin RekaMoreOkean

Another project of Aleksandr Rappoport, a restaurant with a phenomenal variety of fish and seafood at the most reasonable prices. Ninety percent of the fish in the restaurant is caught in Russia (from 25 rivers and seas). The restaurant features a caviar and oyster bar. Slices of frozen nelma (Siberian white salmon) and sterlet, thaw in the mouth with a natural, revealing taste of fish. Here, you can try the legendary Sagudai (raw fish slices) of muksun is the traditional Russian version of the ceviche. The restaurant also offers a large variety of crabs and shrimps: king crab, snow crab, frog crab, blue king crab, spiky crab, hairy crab, Argentinian shrimp from the warm waters of the Atlantic ocean; Dock shrimp from the cold waters of the northern seas and others.

A branch of this restaurant – “Erwin Reka”, is located directly on the board of the luxury yacht of the “Radisson Royal, Moscow” flotilla which daily cruises the Moscow River. The restaurant is open from noon to 1:00 am, and twice a day, at a scheduled time, travels along the Moscow river. This fun restaurant is on the main pedestrianized shopping street linking Red Square and Lubyanka. You can see the crabs as you enter. There are about 10 varieties, including Kamchatka king crab and Horsehair crab.

If you want to dine with the oligarchs and the politicians, Beluga is a great place. It’s on the second floor of the Hotel National, which opened in 1903 and the restaurant’s large windows have views of the Kremlin. (Grand Cafe Dr. Zhivago is downstairs.) This is one of Moscow’s most famous luxury restaurants and just the place to invite your favorite big shot. Take your pick from two dozen varieties of caviar, washed down with a variety of vodkas as big as your pockets. It would be a shame to miss the Champagne, too.

Located within walking distance from the Bolshoi Theatre, Farm Restaurant Lavka-Lavka is the place of a new Russian cuisine. All the ingredients are delivered from local farmers and the dishes are cooked in a simple yet sophisticated way. The menu is an interesting twist on traditional Russian food: you can try such unique specialties as meat tartar and deer heart. 

The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, the staff is really nice and there is also a nice feature: a menu lists the name of the farmer who supplied the ingredients for the dishes. The exquisite interior of 1956, picturesque views, author’s kitchen – the team of the restaurant Ottepel is inviting you to appreciate design of the reconstructed historical pavilion and enjoy ingenious dishes.

Staff wear Mondrian-inspired aprons and the menu is innovative — the restaurant specializes in upgrading well-known, simple Soviet dishes into high-end cuisine. Traditional Russian cabbage soup “shchi” (420 rubles) counts calamari among its ingredients while the ubiquitous cold soup “okroshka” (360 rubles) features salty pastrami. Another trending item is the  “koryushka” served with potatoes (380 rubles). The smelt fish originates from the Baltic sea and is immensely popular in St. Petersburg. If you seek a filling meal, try chicken in Georgian “satsivi” sauce with fried polenta and cheese (610 rubles).

It’s an innovative throwback to the Soviet era, and perfectly at home in the ramblingly grandiose exhibition park of VDNH.

Portions are quite big and the price is reasonable. The menu itself is really interesting for tourists. Try out these traditional soviet Russian dishes: homemade cakes, borscht, Bird’s milk dessert. The word  uhvat  refers to a long-handled wooden utensil used to slide food in and out of a pechka, a wood-fired oven found in many Russian houses until the late 19th century. Uhvat is one of the restaurants leading the resurgence in traditional Slavic cooking, with slow-cooked dishes such as pumpkin  kashas  (a type of porridge) with honey and linden dressing (£3.50), baked roe with pickled bramble (£14)  schchi  soups with fermented cabbage and  chichelindas , an old recipe for pate, here made with ox tail (£5). Don’t leave without tasting  toplyonoe moloko , a thick creamy dessert made by baking milk for several hours. The pechka oven features in many Russian fairytales – the Baba Yaga witch shoves children into ovens – and takes the centre stage at Uhvat. Daily rituals, such as using goose feathers to dust out the ashes, enhance the magical atmosphere.

Lepim i Varim is legendary for boasting some of the most incredible pelmeni in town. You might not expect to find an economy-priced cafeteria inside the stately walls of GUM, an enormous shopping centre on the Red Square specialising in luxury brands. But it seems no Muscovite (wealthy fashionistas and penny-pinching students alike) can resist cheap, simple and delicious Russian comfort fare, dished out in a quaint, Soviet-style “stolovaya” (a self-service, canteen-style eatery).

Stolovaya No. 57 serves the Russian equivalent of a home-cooked meal in a standard Russian family. Salads are super-popular here, including the mayonnaise-heavy Oliver salad and shuba (“Herring in a Fur Coat”) a layered salad of pickled herring, eggs, beets, carrots and potatoes in a creamy dressing. Also on the menu are beef stroganoff, chicken kiev and chebureki (a deep-fried, meat-filled pastry turnover).

Flowers placed around the windows are a nod to wheat fields (‘ grechka ’ translates to buckwheat), whilst considered seating and textured walls evoke a sense of nostalgia.

DEPO Food Mall

Depo (which means ‘ depot ’ in Russian) food mall opened in Moscow in February 2019 on the premises of a former tram depot. Built between 1874 and 1910 in the industrial neo-Gothic style, the red-brick Miussky tram depot is considered an important architectural monument.

Depo houses a small farmer’s market, with fruit, vegetables, cheese and meat, as well as the largest food court in Moscow (and, allegedly, in the whole of Europe) with more than 70 stalls, where one can sample food from all over the world – from China to Thailand and from Mexico to Morocco. The food mall also regularly hosts live concerts, DJ sets, workshops and public lectures.

Apart from the main building, which contains the market and the food mall, there are several proper restaurants on the premises of the former depot, including Kraby Kutaby (Crabs and Qutabs) by one of Moscow’s leading restaurateurs, Alexander Rappaport.

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Four migrants were found dead and 64 were rescued when a boat from Mauritania reached Spain’s Canary Islands after a dangerous Atlantic journey from West Africa, Spain’s Maritime Rescue Service said.

The migrants arrived on the island of El Hierro late on Tuesday evening, with the survivors including two women and nine minors, the service said.

In poor health, two people were transferred by helicopter to a hospital on the island of Tenerife while 14 others were taken to a local hospital on El Hierro to be treated mainly for hypothermia and dehydration, according to a post on X, formerly Twitter, by a local emergency service.

Nearly 12,000 migrants fleeing poverty, conflict and instability in West Africa have landed on the Spanish archipelago in the first two months of the year, according to Spain’s interior ministry.

That’s more than six times the number that made it to the islands last year. El Hierro, the westernmost of the Canary Islands, is bearing the brunt of arrivals.

Most migrants have been departing from the coast of Mauritania on artisanal fishing boats known as pirogues and navigating for several days against strong winds and Atlantic currents. While thousands have survived the risky journey, many die or disappear along the way with remains sometimes washing up on the other side of the Atlantic .

At least 191 migrants have been reported dead or missing so far in 2024 trying to reach the Canary Islands, according to the International Organization for Migrations Missing Migrants Project.

But that number is believed to be an undercount.
