How to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Monaco

monacair-new-year-eve-in-monaco-header

A New Year’s Eve in Monaco guarantees a night to remember. From glamorous clubbing to festive dinners and fireworks, here are a few Monaco events to pave your way to a sparkling 2019.

Take to the skies

monacair-new-year-eve-in-monaco-take-to-the-skies

First of all, if you’re planning to spend New Year’s Eve in Monaco, why not make a celebrity-style entry aboard a helicopter? With the Principality’s helicopter company Monacair, you can enjoy a Monaco airport transfer from Nice airport for a little more than the cost of a taxi and you’ll be chauffeur-driven to your accommodation.

If you’re already in Monaco, Monacair is offering a five-minute panoramic flight for just 35 euros per person until 6 January 2019. The tours are available every day except 25 December and 1 January, which means you can seize this opportunity on 31 January. Taking off from Monacair’s base at the sea-facing heliport in Fontvieille, you’ll fly from Monaco to the dramatic coastline Cap Martin and back. You’ll be transported in a six-passenger capacity Airbus H130, so you can share the spectacular aerial views with friends and family.

Dance, laugh and enjoy the magic

The Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel and Resort has transformed its Blue Gin Bar into a mountain chalet with a contemporary twist for the festive season. Various events and activities are lined up from now until 6 January, with New Year’s Eve offering a DJ set and a magic show. Magician and trained actor Simeon Wolfgang is known for injecting a huge dose of humour into his tricks and involving the public. At midnight, take a break from the dancing to admire the fireworks from the comfort of the Blue Gin Bar’s heated terrace.

Festive fine dining at Monaco’s luxury hotels

On New Year’s Eve in Monaco, restaurants in the luxury hotels will be pulling out all the stops and now is the time to book. A step away from the Monte-Carlo Casino, Le Grill, on the eighth floor of the legendary Hôtel de Paris, offers a menu of foie gras, lobster and other festive fare. When you arrive in the lobby, look out for the Chopard Christmas tree, with its ethical gold decorations, before you ascend to dine and admire the spectacular view over the Mediterranean Sea.

The Hôtel Hermitage invites revellers to its Le Vistamar restaurant for a New Year’s Eve dinner prepared by Michelin-starred chef Benoît Witz. The gourmet menu, in the sumptuous setting of this hotel dating back to the 1900s, costs 450 euros per person. And, if you’re wondering where to eat in style on the first day of 2019, the Hermitage will be serving a New Year’s Day brunch for 185 euros.

The three restaurants of Fairmont Monte Carlo will also be concocting New Year’s Eve delicacies. At the bistro-style Saphir24, you can share a tasting platter for up to four people. Choose from Lebanese, French, Italian and seafood themes or indulge in a selection of desserts. From 11pm, your group can enjoy these dishes for 350 euros (including a bottle of wine) before dancing to sounds served up by a DJ. At the Nobu, the Omakase menu offers Japanese food with a seasonal twist and costs 260 euros per person. The price doesn’t include drinks but gives diners entry to the party at Saphir24. Finally, at the hotel’s Salle de la Mer restaurant, live music and a sumptuous buffet with a decidedly Italian influence costs 280 euros per person, including coffee, mineral water and a glass of champagne.

Party by the harbour

new-year-eve-in-monaco-party-by-the-harbour

Port Hercules is an at-least-once-in-a-lifetime must-see, with its superb superyachts and lively harbourside venues. During the festive season, a Christmas Village takes up residence by this world famous harbour and it’s here that you should head for Monaco’s traditional New Year’s Eve party. Two DJs will get everyone dancing from 9.30pm and will be hard at work on the turntables until 3am. After the countdown to the New Year, a fireworks display will illuminate the sky and cityscape with a riot of colours, while the sound of yacht horns fills the air.

new-year-eve-in-monaco-jimmy'z

Jimmy’z is Monaco’s most famous club, which has been frequented by celebrities from the worlds of music, fashion, film and sport since its inauguration in the early 1970s.

The New Year’s Eve soundscape comes courtesy of resident DJs Carmine, Ollie and guest DJ Alexandre Billard. The club promises surprises for this end of year celebration, so if you’re seeking a made-in-Monaco experience, dress up and wander this way.

New Year’s Eve in Monte Carlo: where to go

monaco yacht club new years eve

Looking for the perfect setting to celebrate the ringing in of the New Year? The Principality has enticing options to choose from.

Both the Casino de Monte-Carlo and the Fairmont are pulling out all the stops to make the start of 2020 special and unique for guests.

The Casino de Monte-Carlo has a free-of-charge treat for young and old, projecting a magnificent holiday light show on the façade of the iconic building every 20 minutes from 6pm. Gaming, of course, is the theme, and it is sure to leave all who see it with a sense of the wonders of the season.

If being a spectator isn’t enough, the Bar Europe is proposing visitors to come in for a glass of champagne and caviar to end the year in elegance, where they can also enjoy music, dancing and maybe a game or two to start the year in true James Bond style.

The Fairmont is offering three-experiences-in-one for the holidays, with Nobu, Saphir24 and Salle de la Mer all catering to different themes and tastes. Nobu, with its world-renowned Asian/Latin American fusion fare bringing both warmth and subtlety to patrons, will be hosting a menu entitled Omakase , which gives the chef free reign to delight the clientele with the freshest and most inspired dishes around.

Saphir24 is for the night owls, offering shared plates featuring the traditional favourites of the season, such as smoked salmon and foie gras, whilst daring customers to stay and get their boogie on with live music.

Salle de la Mer has never been so aptly named, offering a seafood buffet spread over the room’s 450 square metres and featuring that much-beloved winter delicacy, the oyster. For those who steer clear of the sea, dishes for carnivores and vegetarians will also be showcased, and there is even something for the kids in the ‘Lion King Restaurant’ section.

Guests are encouraged to stay and watch the New Year’s Eve fireworks spectacle from the terrace, and for those intrepid enough to still be awake, or those sensible enough to have gone home at a reasonable hour, brunch will be served on 1st January accompanied by live music to start the year off right.

With December festivities winding down, it’s time to mark the end of yet another burdensome year in a safe — but equally fun — environment. Plenty of reliable D.C. establishments plan to stay open on New Year’s Eve, inviting guests to bid adieu to 2021 with prix-fixe suppers curated by top chefs, DJs spinning into the wee hours, and all-inclusive champagne toasts at midnight.

A range of eclectic New Year’s Eve spreads and parties are tailored towards cautious and big budgets alike. If dancing until 2 a.m. sounds like a dream, consider partying Studio 54 style at downtown’s Hotel Washington. If a fresh start to 2022 means celebrating when the Italians do, check out what Capitol Hill’s La Collina has in store. Splurge-worthy D.C. dinners include everything from a $200 ticket to scene-y stalwart Cafe Milano to a $600 luxurious spread at Michelin-rated Xiquet.

Here’s where to eat, drink, and party for New Year’s Eve on Friday, December 31.

Note: In light of a spike in new COVID-19 cases causing some D.C. bars and restaurants to temporarily close through the year, it’s best to check for updates on any altered New Year’s Eve plans at each and whether tickets are refundable.

Health experts consider dining out to be a high-risk activity for the unvaccinated; it may pose a risk for the vaccinated, especially in areas with substantial COVID transmission.

Chef Danny Lledo curates 14-plus courses using ultra-luxe ingredients from around the world (caviar, uni, A5 wagyu, truffles, and more). New exciting challenge for the 10th anniversary: largest ever gathering of electric boats

Monaco energy boat challenge | 3-8 july 2023.

Save the date:  the 10 th edition of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge will take place from the 3 rd -8 th July 2023 next year. This unique event – the only one of its kind in the world – is organised by the Yacht Club de Monaco in partnership with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, with support from Credit Suisse, BMW, SBM Offshore and the shipyard Oceanco.

Under the aegis of Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting , the event is set to host the three traditional classes (Solar, Energy and Open Sea) as well as an exciting new development in partnership with Aqua superPower , the world’s first global marine fast charging network.

“Monaco has always been a yachting mecca and pioneer. From 1904, the Principality organised the first powerboat meetings. Innovation is synonymous with Monaco. To celebrate ten years of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge we want to demonstrate that the technology exists and is efficient and effective over a given distance. What better way to do this than organise the world’s biggest meeting of electric vessels with a target record participation of 55+ boats,” says Bernard d’Alessandri , Yacht Club de Monaco’s General Secretary.

Electrifying edition onshore…

Aqua superPower is joining forces with the YCM as an official technical partner to enhance the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge’s status as a global flagship event for electric boats. As a fast-charging dockside infrastructure platform that builds and operates local recharging networks for the global maritime market, Aqua superPower will launch the first E-Dock with the YCM for this event. Comprising an eco-pontoon built of bamboo, and equipped with AC (Alternative Current) chargers, it will have the capacity to recharge 20-plus boats at the same time with a fast reliable supply. In effect, it will be a floating charging platform for all electric boats participating in the Open Sea Class. DC fast charging will also be available through Aqua and the YCM’s permanent fast chargers in Port Hercule.

The E-Dock concept is the brainchild of YCM as part of its commitment to promote sustainable navigation. In 2019, YCM was the first marina in the world to equip its dock with Aqua’s rapid DC (Direct Current) chargers in order to demonstrate and pave the way for the adoption of electric leisure and commercial boating, an initiative that included adding electric tenders to reinforce its Sports Section’s fleet.

…and at sea

Also new for the 10 th anniversary edition is the first E-Boat Rally for commercially available electric boats. The event will enable a record number of electric boat builders to show the public what the future for leisure and commercial boating looks like. The 16 nautical mile E-Boat Rally will leave from Monaco to call into Cala del Forte in Ventimiglia, Italy where participants can recharge and visitors will be able to see the boats up close, before returning to the Principality.

According to Aqua superPower CEO Alex Bamberg: “ Aqua superPower is the first dedicated electric fast charging network for boats, with the aim of installing corridors of chargers in boating areas everywhere in order to provide the platform to make electric boating feasible. We have worked closely with the YCM for several years; they have been very supportive and were early pioneers in believing and demonstrating that electric navigation is the future. For this 10 th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, we are pleased to be working alongside the Club to attract electric boats from all over the world as the industry takes off”.

Innovation Lab will lift the veil on the latest innovations

Parallel to events taking place on the water there will be an Innovation Lab onshore, dedicated to industry and researchers, where the YCM will exhibit projects and innovations selected by the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge jury.

Best of Innovation prizes are up for grabs in four categories: alternative energy system (battery, fuel cells, etc.), alternative propulsion system, new materials, and innovative & sustainable yacht/boat. Projects submitted must be applicable to the yachting industry and show a positive impact on sustainable development and evidence of bringing something innovative to the sector. Applications to enter opened on the website https://energyboatchallenge.com/ and will close on 15 th March 2023. Nominees will be announced at Monaco Ocean Week (20-26 March 2023).

First refuelling for Russia’s Akademik Lomonosov floating NPP

!{Model.Description}

monaco yacht club new years eve

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactor units. In such reactors, nuclear fuel is not replaced in the same way as in standard NPPs – partial replacement of fuel once every 12-18 months. Instead, once every few years the entire reactor core is replaced with and a full load of fresh fuel.

The KLT-40S reactor cores have a number of advantages compared with standard NPPs. For the first time, a cassette core was used, which made it possible to increase the fuel cycle to 3-3.5 years before refuelling, and also reduce by one and a half times the fuel component in the cost of the electricity produced. The operating experience of the FNPP provided the basis for the design of the new series of nuclear icebreaker reactors (series 22220). Currently, three such icebreakers have been launched.

The Akademik Lomonosov was connected to the power grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020.

Electricity generation from the FNPP at the end of 2023 amounted to 194 GWh. The population of Pevek is just over 4,000 people. However, the plant can potentially provide electricity to a city with a population of up to 100,000. The FNPP solved two problems. Firstly, it replaced the retiring capacities of the Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya Thermal Power Plant, which is more than 70 years old. It also supplies power to the main mining enterprises located in western Chukotka. In September, a 490 km 110 kilovolt power transmission line was put into operation connecting Pevek and Bilibino.
