When to go: All year

Even though the Galapagos is on the Equator, and is naturally warm, it does not experience the tropical temperatures that one might expect when visiting. Because of the Humboldt Current, the region’s temperatures stay mild and dry all year. Regardless of the season, the Galapagos islands boast great weather with temperatures ranging from 69 to 84 degrees.

In fact, when it comes to the weather, the Galapagos Islands only have two real seasons. From January to April, visitors to the archipelago will find themselves in the heart of a warm, rainy season; one marked by warm sea currents, less wind, and ultra-calm seas. During this same season, those at higher elevations will notice heavy rains that fill rivers and streams and thus flow down to the lower portions of the islands.

During the dry season, which lasts from May through December, yacht charter guests will find that the southern islands are windy, causing temperatures to drop rapidly. Similarly, the interior of the islands will drop to the mid-70’s, accompanied by less rain along the Galapagos coast.

Because the Galapagos Islands feature a wide variety of landforms – from rolling mountainsides and deep valleys, to coastal beaches – visitors to the islands should expect that the weather and climate will change in every region.

Make the most of the landscape

The Islands have a variety of landscapes that begin at the low coastlands and beaches to the lush inland and the towering mountains. However, the most exciting aspect is the geologic hot spots. In Santa Cruz, you can tour ancient underground tunnels formed long ago by the same volcanic activity which formed the islands. You will be awed by formations from active volcanos and can even hike to the top of one and peer inside.

See the unique land animals

The land creatures in the Galapagos Islands are unafraid of humans, unlike anything you’ve seen. Tortuga Bay, in particular, is home to thousands of marine iguanas who sun themselves on the beautiful beach and play in the warm waters. The area is known for its giant tortoises. These giant, yet unassuming, beasts can be seen in the wild or at one of the private tortoise ranches. Yacht charter guests will have the opportunity of viewing and even interacting with a variety of wildlife – birds, mammals, reptiles, marine animals, and insects.

Birds : When people think of birds of the Galapagos, they’re bound to think immediately of the finch. These tiny birds played an important part in Darwin’s Theory, but the islands have many more species of birds, including flamingos, blue-footed boobies, frigate birds, and cormorants.

Mammals : Although some of your most vivid memories of Galapagos creatures may be interacting with the sea lions or watching the dolphins perform off the bow of your Galapagos crewed yacht, these are two of the few species of mammals on the Islands. Due to its isolation from any mainland, very few native mammals – no more than fourteen – have ever inhabited the Galapagos Islands.

Reptiles : Even though the archipelago has few mammals, it does not mean that it has minimal land creatures. Reptiles have dominated the land and include the Galapagos giant tortoise as well as iguanas, snakes, and lizards.

Insects : Since the islands were never connected to the mainland, they offer a limited number of insects; however, on after a significant rainfall and perhaps in light at night, you may see the green hawkmoth or the fringed noctuid butterflies. Other insects you may spot include the large painted grasshopper and the giant longhorn beetle.

Explore under the water

Snorkelers and divers will whole-heartedly agree that the best wildlife that the Galapagos has to offer is under the water. The waters hold a variety of species, most notably including Sally light-foot crabs, sharks, sea cucumbers, white sharks, and even occasionally whales and hammerhead sharks.

The clear waters of the area make for excellent snorkeling conditions. The sea creatures are just as accustomed to humans as those on land. You’ll get up close to a myriad of tropical fish, turtles, and other sea creatures. The sea lions are particularly friendly with great personalities, but remember the strict rule to keep six feet from all animals.

Look up in the skies

If you aren’t interested in birds before you go to Galapagos, you will be when you get there! There are great quantities of birds with many different and unique features. Try to spot all thirteen species of Darwin’s finches as well as the flightless cormorant, the blue-footed booby, and the waved albatross. The birds are easy to spot, are not skittish, and sing beautiful songs.

When is the best time for a galapagos yacht charter.

There isn’t really a right answer to this question! Galapagos is a year round destination thanks to its location on the equator. Each month has its own highlights. Hopefully this month by month guide to the climate and the wildlife activity can help you decide the best time for your Galapagos holiday.

Worth mentioning is that if you want a Galapagos yacht charter in peak holiday seasons (Christmas, New Year, Thanksgiving, Spring Break and Easter) you need to book as far in advance as possible. Often yachts are chartered for peak dates years in advance and many charge a premium for these dates.

But to get you started here are the answers to some frequently asked questions from guests looking to charter a private yacht in Galapagos.

The private charter of a Galapagos yacht varies according to the size and style of the yacht and the length of time of the cruise. Depending on the yacht, the rate we can negotiate and how many guests will be joining the party, a private Galapagos yacht charter can sometimes work out to cost quite a bit less per person than booking individual spaces on a normal scheduled cruise departure.

To give you an idea of the range of prices for a private charter in Galapagos on our curated collection of yachts, it can range from US$34,595, for a 5 day charter on tourist superior yacht with a capacity for 16 guests, right up to US$169,000 for a deluxe yacht charter for 8 days for up to 20 guests…. and of course everything in between!

All Galapagos yachts have itineraries set by the Galapagos National Park and cruises do need to stick pretty tightly to the agreed routes. This works very well in terms of ensuring there are never too many visitors at any one time in any visitor sites and spreads the yachts evenly across the archipelago, but it does mean reduced flexibility in terms of our ability to make any changes to a Galapagos cruise itinerary. We can request small tweaks on the itinerary and maybe to change the odd island here and there, but they need to be negotiated in advance with the Galapagos National Park, and often carry a fee from the Galapagos National Park to approve any changes.

Where you do have flexibility in a private Galapagos charter is deciding some of the timings for your visits, for example you may wish to get up really early and have a visit before breakfast to get the very best light of the day if anyone is interested in photography, or before any other groups arrive to the islands. You may wish to spend longer snorkelling or try a few snorkel sites if they are permitted so there is some flexibility with that, but the actual islands visited and the afternoon and morning slots are usually set.

The good news is that the cruise itineraries that the yachts that we work with all provide a really good mix of Galapagos wildlife, and as part of our job to help select the best Galapagos charter cruise for your group, we will help identify which itineraries are the best fit for your groups interests.

The Galapagos Islands are located some 600 miles (1000) km off the coast of mainland Ecuador . There are no direct international flights to Galapagos, so every Galapagos cruise starts with a flight from mainland Ecuador, either the capital city of Quito in the Andes or Guayaquil on the coast. Most of the yachts we work with start and end the cruise in Baltra, a small islet in the centre of Galapagos which is where the main airport is, although some start and end in San Cristobal Island which is where the other main airport is located.

So, what makes the Galapagos Islands an almost mythological destination? The answer would have to be its isolated volcanic islands and fragile ecosystems. The Islands are roughly 1,000 kilometers from the Ecuadorian Coast in South America. They lie at a point where three ocean currents merge, making it the wealthiest marine ecosystem in the world.

Galapagos Island Weather

The Galapagos Islands have a dry and mild climate, with steady temperatures throughout the year. The islands’ dry season lasts from July to December, and the wet season from January to June. During the dry season, temperatures range from 24°C (75°F) to 28°C (82°F), and during the wet season, temperatures range from 22°C (72°F) to 26°C (78°F). The water temperature remains relatively constant throughout the year, ranging between 23°C (73°F) and 26°C (79°F).

The islands are affected by the El Niño phenomenon every two to seven years, which can cause drastic changes in the climate. During El Niño events, the islands experience higher temperatures, increased rain and wind, and reduced wildlife populations due to poor food availability. You may want to consider these factors when choosing your charter dates.

Bartolome Island

One of the highlights of your Galapagos Islands yacht charter is Bartolome Island. It is off Sullivan Bay, a small island known for its famous Pinnacle Rock. You will get plenty of photo opportunities at this ideal destination. The main attractions at Bartolome Island include:

Galapagos Beach at Tortuga Bay

White sand and turquoise water greet you at Tortuga Bay Beach. At Tortuga Bay, you’ll likely encounter an iguana or two. A large marine iguana colony lives here, so you will probably see a few sunning on the sand or swimming in the sea.

This beach is an excellent place for activities such as:

• Watersports such as surfing, snorkeling, and swimming.
• Wildlife viewing, such as sea lions, pink flamingos, pelicans, blue-footed boobies,…and more.

Gardner Bay Beach

Gardner Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches on the Galapagos islands. It was voted as one of the top 20 beaches in the world. Spend some time relaxing here, and be sure to get a photo with one of the friendly, local sea lions.

Red Beach, Rabida Island

Rabida is an uninhabited island that has an other-worldly red sand beach. The iron-rich volcanic rocks found on Rabida island create an unusual sand color. This is an excellent place for taking photographs, especially from January to April when the vegetation is greenest.

Black Beach, James Bay, Santiago

James Bay is another unique Galapagos islands beach. It is easily recognized by its black sand beach and interesting lava formations. Charles Darwin wrote about his landing at this precise spot, so you follow his very important footsteps.

James Bay is one of the few places to see Galapagos Fur Seals.

Punta Carola Beach, San Cristobal Island

Punta Carola is on San Cristobal Island and is a good beach for surfers and those who love the outdoors. The wildlife on Punta Carola includes sea lions, Marine Iguanas, Pelicans, and occasionally sea turtles.

Isabela Island | Galapagos Islands Yacht Charter

Isla Isabela is the largest of the Galapagos Islands. It is also one of the most captivating islands in the world. This old island is composed of six volcanoes. Popular attractions include:

From 12 to 17 March, two of the Group fleet’s most successful yachts will be presented as absolute premieres for the Russian market: motor yacht Ferretti 530, representing Ferretti Yachts , and the 27-foot Iseo superyacht tender by Riva .

This year’s Moscow Boat Show will also offer the Ferretti Group the opportunity to announce all yachting enthusiasts in Russia and Northern Eurasia a new important achievement in its international growth: the renewal of its exclusive dealership agreement for the Russian Federation with its partner Premium Yachts , one of the leading dealers operating in the boating sector in Russia , which will represent the Ferretti Yachts , Pershing , Itama , Bertram , Riva e Mochi Craft and Ferretti Custom Line brands.

The agreement – which was officially announced today during a press conference attended, among others, by Ferruccio Rossi (Ferretti Group’s CEO), Alexey Kurochkin (Premium Yachts’s President), and Stefano Campanelli (Sales Manager for the EMEA area for Ferretti Yachts, Pershing, Itama, Bertram, Riva, Mochi Craft and Ferretti Custom Line) – is part of Ferretti Group’s strategy for a further expansion on the European markets offering the best short/medium-term growth perspectives, also thanks to the financial soundness regained following the strategic partnership forged with the Weichai Group.

More specifically, the Russian boating market holds a great potential for the Ferretti Group’s development because of the rapid growth of average wealth among the population and an increasing interest for Made in Italy luxury goods, like Ferretti Group yachts.

Through the renewal of the agreement with Premium Yachts, the Group will further strengthen its highly selected distribution network – which currently includes approximately 60 dealers ensuring the best possible customer care in more than 80 countries worldwide – as well as its presence in the traditional EMEA ( Europe , Middle East , Africa ) area, one of the three macro-regions (besides the America and the Asia-Pacific) into which the Group’s sales structure is divided.

Moreover, in a medium/long-term perspective, the Ferretti Group is expecting an increasing interest on the Russian market not only for flying bridge yachts above 70’ in length, but also towards smaller crafts, both flybridge and open/coupé ones, which are particularly suitable for river cruising or pleasure boating in Russia’s large lakes. Consequently, the renewal of the dealership agreement with Premium Yachts also allows to look ahead at the future aiming to conquer new market segments where less competitors are currently present in terms of both products and geographic location.

The press conference, which was held today at the Lotte Hotel in Moscow, had also the objective of introducing attending journalists and yachting enthusiasts to the main new products launched by the Ferretti Group over the last few months, namely: motor yacht Ferretti 870 , Ferretti 690 yacht , and the project of the new flagship Ferretti 960 superyacht for the Ferretti Yachts brand; luxury yacht Pershing 82 ’ and superyacht Pershing 108’ New Edition for Pershing; Riva 63’ Virtus and the project of the new Riva flagship, 122’ Mythos yacht , as well as the entire range of the Itama, Bertram and Mochi Craft brands.

The yachts launched over the last few months by CRN – the Group’s brand specialising in the construction of steel and aluminium yachts between 40 and 90 metres – were also presented during the conference: the two superyachts: CRN superyacht Jade (60 metres long) and CRN mega yacht Chopi Chopi (80 metres long), the latter being one of the largest pleasure vessels ever built in Italy and the largest one ever built by the Ancona-based shipyard.
