A 108-Foot, All-Carbon Sportfishing Yacht?

Yachting Developments in Auckland, New Zealand, has launched Al Duhail , a 108-foot, all-carbon sportfishing yacht with lines and naval architecture by Warwick Yacht Design.

The interior is done in oak, white paneling and cream-colored carpets, with pops of color in the soft furnishings. Accommodations are for 10 guests in five staterooms, and there are two crew cabins.

Running to the canyons can be at a 20-knot cruise or a 30-knot top-end speed, according to the builder. Power is twin 2,000-horsepower MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines.

“ Al Duhail has been a very enjoyable project to build, and we have relished working with these experienced owners,” Ian Cook, managing director of Yachting Developments, stated in a press release. “Our specialist composite team made use of full carbon epoxy construction to achieve the desired weight and performance. As a result, she is sure to be fast and economical on the water.”

What’s next for Al Duhail ? She’ll be in sea trials soon, and is expected to depart New Zealand sometime in February.

AL DUHAIL is a 33.0 m Motor Yacht, built in New Zealand by Sovereign NZ and delivered in 2008. She is the only Warwick 103 model.

Her top speed is 28.0 kn, her cruising speed is 21.0 kn, and she boasts a maximum cruising range of 1700.0 nm at 12.0 kn, with power coming from two MTU diesel engines. She can accommodate up to 8 guests in 4 staterooms, with 4 crew members waiting on their every need. She has a gross tonnage of 200.0 GT and a 7.5 m beam.

She was designed by Warwick Yacht Design , who also completed the naval architecture and designed the interior. Warwick Yacht Design has designed 11 yachts, created the naval architecture for 13 yachts, and designed the interior of 8 yachts for yachts above 24 metres.

AL DUHAIL is in the top 30% by speed in the world. She is one of 2070 motor yachts in the 30-35m size range, and, compared to similarly sized motor yachts, her cruising speed is 0.93 kn above the average, her top speed 4.22 kn above the average, and her volume 13.94 GT above the average.

Yachting Developments launches 33m ‘Al Duhail’

The sportfisher currently represents the only known project in new zealand's order book….

Auckland-based Yachting Developments has launched its latest superyacht, the 33m Al Duhail , also known as Hull 1017. Al Duhail safely entered the water in Hobsonville before travelling to Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour, where it will undergo final finishing work ahead of sea trials. 

Al Duhail is a carbon sportfisher, featuring naval architecture and design work by Warwick Yacht Design. Her interior was developed by Yachting Developments’ specialist interior team in conjunction with the owner.

The owner’s interior brief was for a simple and elegant style. Key materials used include oak wood with a light decor, including white panelling and cream carpets, offset by pops of colour in the soft furnishings.

Accommodation is for 10 guests, including the master suite and four guest cabins, plus two crew cabins. Powered by twin MTU 16V 2000 M96L 2000 HP engines, her estimated cruising speed is 20 knots, with top speeds of 30 knots.

The New Zealand new-build market has significantly dropped off particularly in the last five years. Having peaked with eight deliveries in 2006, recently the country is averaging at less than one delivery per year and has no known projects currently in its order book except for  Al Duhail .

While the country had a fairly consistent number of sailing yacht deliveries in the early 2000s, economic factors have led to a diminishing new-build market, with many of the country’s shipyards focusing predominantly on refit activity.

2020 is off to a busy start for Yachting Developments, with the Auckland-based yard’s latest superyacht – 33-metre Al Duhail (Hull 1017) – launching on 22 January 2020. Al Duhail safely entered the water in Hobsonville before travelling to Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour where she will undergo final finishing work ahead of sea trials.

New Zealand-based shipbuilder Yachting Developments have launched the 33m/109ft all-carbon sportfisher AL DUHAIL (HULL 1017) . She will be based in Viaduct Harbour for the final finishing work before undergoing first sea trials.

The sportfisher was designed by Warwick Yacht Design , who also developed the naval architecture. The interior design is the work of the in-house team at Yachting Developments in collaboration with the owner.

The elegant, yet simple interiors are decorated with oak wood, cream panelling and white carpets with accents on the brighter tones of soft furnishing.

Accommodation is offered for up to ten guests across five cabins. The crew quarters include two cabins for staff members.

With a pair of MTU 16V 2000 M96L 2000hp engines, AL DUHAIL is capable of reaching the top speed of 30 knots and cruising at the speed of 20 knots.

It is not yet known whether motor yacht AL DUHAIL would become available for charter once she is delivered to her owner and leaves New Zealand in February 2020.

Yachting Developments has announced that 34.3m/112ft luxury sportfisher yacht AL DUHAIL has been delivered to her Owner before cruising on to her homeport in Qatar.

Her launch took place on the 22nd of January 2020 in Auckland, New Zealand, before she was officially received by her Owner in February when she undertook a massive 8,000 nautical mile maiden voyage to Doha.

The experienced Owners were looking to upgrade from their previous sportfisher, also named AL DUHAIL. Constructed with a lightweight carbon fibre hull and superstructure, M/Y AL DUHAIL is designed for accessing shallow waterways to reach fishing spots other larger vessels struggle to get to. Warwick Yacht Design created her sleek exterior profile and her understated interiors are the work of the shipyard in collaboration with the Owners’ team.

The modern, neutral rooms use light oak with a natural grain and a semi-gloss finish with walnut detailing. Upholstered panelling in places such as the bed headboards and colour accents in deep blue and mustard add a touch of home away from home. The accommodation sleeps 10 guests over 5 en-suite cabins: 1 Master suite, 2 double cabins and 2 twin bunk cabins. There is also accommodation for a professional crew of 5.

Also of note is the large cockpit designed for fishing and diving expeditions, and the area is equipped with tuna tubes, live bait tanks, a game chair, ice slurry machines and extensive freezer storage to name some of the additions.

A pair of MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines produce a top speed of 31 knots for zipping between islands, a cruising speed of 20 knots and a range of 2,000 nautical miles at an economical 10 knots.
