The LTS Board of Directors

The LTS Board of Directors is composed of seven members, each of whom serve up to two three-year terms. Service on the LTS Board is entirely voluntary, and involves monthly board meetings, dozens of phone calls and emails per month, and many hours of on and off-the-water work to support the program. The LTS Board oversees and directs the LTS program, including:

  • Selecting and managing the senior staff
  • Long and short-term planning
  • Setting pricing and policies
  • Budgeting and financial oversight
  • Running the scholarship program
  • Evaluating and approving capital purchases
  • Fundraising

Current Board of Directors

Merritt Palm Keffer

President (term ends 10/2025)

Merritt grew up sailing on Lake St. Clair and and participated in the Junior Sailing Program at Grosse Pointe Yacht Club. Her family has been summering on Burt Lake since the early 1900s and more recently in Harbor Springs. Her love of sailing has taken her all over the world in dinghies and keel boats. Merritt was a member of the 1995 America3 Women’s America’s Cup team. She is passionate about coaching sailing and has directed sailing programs in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Ram Island, CT, and Detroit MI. Merritt and her husband Chris enjoy sailing their J70 with their two children who love the LTS sailing program.

Tim Johnson

Vice-President (term ends 10/2027)

An avid sailor, and local to Harbor Springs, Tim joins the LTS Board for the second time. He has an associates degree in computer programming and spent most of his working career in sales and marketing.   Tim worked for Hood sailmakers and Offshore Spars as a project manager.   The last five years Tim worked at Irish boat shop running the crane and rigging sail boats.   Now “retired” you can sometimes find him tuning skis at Nubs Nob in the winter .   Tim has over 40 years of sailing experience, racing and offshore sailing.   He is a member of North Cape Yacht Club on Lake Erie where Tim was chairman of the Membership committee, Safety boat purchases and Junior sailing program.

Owen Beckley

Member (term ends 10/2025)

Owen has been sailing on Little Traverse Bay and the Great Lakes since childhood and is an active crew in the various LTYC fleets. Owen has experienced LTS as an instructor during his college years, as parent, and currently as parent of an instructor. Owen, and his wife Tracy, have recently become year-round residents of Harbor Springs.

Beth is a summer resident of Harbor Springs. She lives in Nashville the rest of the year and brings a variety of volunteer experiences with nonprofit organizations to our board. Beth is a huge fan of the LTS program and has one son who has been part of the LTS program for the past eight years. Though Beth is admittedly not an avid sailor herself, she has seen first-hand how sailing has brought joy to her son and husband and how sailing enriches their lives. On many summer days, you can find Beth on the

LTYC porch watching the LTS activity and seeing the older instructors mentoring the youngest sailors.

Martin Grin

Member (term ends 10/2024)

Martin’s love of sailing started as an 8-year old at LTS and grew to be a participant in numerous fleets in Little Traverse Bay and the Great Lakes. His association with LTS continued as an instructor throughout college and currently as a parent of four LTS sailing daughters. Any of Martin’s sailing accomplishments pale in comparison to his lifetime total of over 1,000 Gurney’s sandwiches consumed and swims off the LTS dock that are too numerous to count…

Secretary (term ends 10/2026)

Mara Lowry is a life-long sailor who has had the privilege of teaching and racing on Little Traverse Bay since 1995. As a child Mara’s interest in boating was driven by a desire for a great tan, but she quickly learned to love dinghy racing after meeting her skipper (now husband) on the Stanford Sailing Team. Mara currently sails on NM 6 and any other boat that will have her. She brings her professional background in marketing and entrepreneurship, as well as experience on the boards of the Bay Area Discovery Museum and local PTA. Mara, her husband, Adam, and their two daughters are summer residents of Harbor Springs and live in Mill Valley, California the rest of the year. Her girls, Kenning & Ryan, are LTS students. Recently Mara and her family completed their first Trans Atlantic crossing via sailboat.  They are on a year long sailing adventure aboard a catamaran and are due to return just in time for the start of LTS!

Jennifer Romano

Member (term ends 10/2027)

Jennifer Romano is a Michigan native who grew up in the Kalamazoo area.   The Romano family has been coming to Harbor Springs for 5 years and enjoy year round activities on the water and on the slopes.   She is new to the world of sailing as she indulges her husband Matthew’s passion for competitively sailing his J70, Narwhal.   She also has two small children, Maximilian 8 and Allegra 6.   Max spent his first summer with LTS last year and had a blast!   Hoping to get Allegra involved soon. They love hanging out on the boat and learning to drive.   When she is not in Harbor Springs, she is busy as a Pediatric Heart Surgeon who is also trying to keep up with the fast paced lives of young kids.

Jack Deegan

Member (term ends 10/2029)

Bio Coming Soon!

Tom Post is a lifelong sailor who grew up sailing on Barnegat Bay in New Jersey.    He moved to Michigan in 1986 and immediately fell in love with Little Traverse Bay and the indigenous NM Fleet.  He has been a member of the Little Traverse Yacht Club since 1987 and served as the NM Fleet Captain for 11 years and was Commodore of the LTYC in 2002.   Both of Tom’s now adult children went through the LTS program when they were younger.  When he is not sailing his NM, or cruising on his powerboat, or skiing at Nubs Nob, he works as a financial planner in Bloomfield Hills helping guide people through their retirement years and stay financially secure.  He also serves on the board of a non-profit in Detroit called Racquet Up Detroit which helps underprivileged kids achieve their full potential through a long term, demanding, and inspiring mentoring program of squash, academics, and community service.   Lastly, Tom has two grandsons who will soon be enrolling in the Little Traverse Sailor program.

LTS is proud of our growing fleet of well maintained boats. All boats are checked prior to each season and maintained to the highest safety standards. This fleet is made possible by many generous donations over the years.

Collegiate 420s (6 in the LTS Fleet)

These two to three person boats are used by the Learn-to-Sail Program, Race Team, Adult and Private Lessons, and Thursday night Dinghy Racing.

420s are the scaled-down version of the 470 which is used in the Olympics. 420s are fast, stable, responsive, and versatile.  They are the most used double-handed training boat in the world, and are the core of virtually all junior sailing programs in the United States. 420s are also the most-used boat in High School and Collegiate sailing.

little traverse yacht club membership

Club 420s (14 in the LTS fleet)

Used by the Junior Race Team and Race Team. We take these boats when the Race Team travels to away regattas.

Club 420s are identical to the Collegiate 420 except that they are lighter, have spinnaker and trapeze setups, and are designed to race.

little traverse yacht club membership

Lasers (5 in the LTS fleet)

One-person boat used by the Race Team and Red Fleet.

Lasers are the biggest one-design sailboat class in the world (over 200,000 Lasers have been built!), and are used everywhere from beginning sailing programs to the Olympics.  Our Lasers have a variety of rig/sail sizes so that sailors from about 100 lbs and up can sail them successfully.  There is also a very active Laser fleet in Harbor Springs, racing in the Monday night Dinghy Races.

little traverse yacht club membership

World Wide Sailor (10 in the LTS fleet)

One-person boat (sometimes two very small people!) used by the Learn-to-Sail Program and for Pram Racing on Wednesday nights.

World Wide Sailors are an 8′ singlehanded dingy intended for smaller sailors and beginners. Though many programs have Optimists as their entry-level training boat, we think the stability, higher performance, and self-bailing features of the World Wide Sailors make them better for our purposes.

little traverse yacht club membership

Bug (10 in the LTS fleet)

Bugs are an 8′ singlehanded dingy intended for smaller sailors and beginners.  With the recent addition of the World Wide Sailor Prams, the smaller sailors in Blue Fleet have been able to utilize the Bug in order to perfect maneuvers and sail more comfortably in heavier winds.

little traverse yacht club membership

29er (1 in the LTS fleet)

High-performance two person skiff used by race team.

Ideal for youth sailors, the 29er combines a hydrodynamic hull and an incredibly light overall weight to maximize speed. The 29er is highly responsive and often times exceeds the wind speed while planing. At 14 feet, this boat offers a great introduction into modern skiff sailing.

little traverse yacht club membership

J/70 (1 in the LTS fleet)

Four to six person boat used by the Race Team, Adult and Private Lessons, Thursday Night Learn-to-Race Program

The J/70 is a modern (introduced in 2013) high-performance keelboat, typically sailed by four to six sailors. The J/70 is fast and responsive like a dinghy, and also features a lifting keel and large asymmetric spinnaker. The boat is easily trailerable, and J/70 regattas worldwide attract 50 or more entrants routinely.

8 Outboard power boats used for coaching

Our coaches and staff are well equiped to provide constant supervision and coaching to our sailors.

Restaurant-Yacht Chaika

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

Pleasantly surprised, service is good so is the food. Great selection of Fusion food, a mixture of Italian, Japanese, European, Asian etc. A pleasantly nice dining experience, highly recommended, a must try!

Thank you for your feedback and invite you to have lunch or dinner again aboard the ship in an atmosphere of high standards of yacht hospitality.

everything was perfect - the food, the service, the desserts were the best, nice atmosphere and the location - magical

Best food, best view in Moscow. absolutely faultless from arrival to finish. Best risotto i had for many years absolutely perfectly cooked. The view on Ukrainian hotel and the white house by night is amazing

Had to wait for the food for 1.5 hours and then another 20 minutes for the check. Finally called for the manager and he offered... a 10% discount as a compensation. Simply pathetic! The food is mediocre at best. Not bad per se, but one... would expect something better considering the prices. There are many places to eat in area that are much better. Avoid this one at all costs. Hello, Alexander Your comment is extremely important for us, thank you a lot for it. We are terribly sorry for your time that you`ve spent waiting your order and we have already taken actions to improve quality of our service and it would be realy... More

Food is very expensive, very pretentious, doesn't worth that money. Portions are very small. We ordered ravioli and there were 4! Four raviolis! For almost 15 euros. Then we asked to bring us dessert menu but nothing, they didn't even bothered, so we payed and left... without dessert. Very poor service for that price. More

This is a very good restaurant. The food is really good, maybe the best in Moscow. The service is also good. The view from the restaurant is great. The prices are very high.

I often visit this restaurant and must say it’s one of the best in Moscow in terms of quality and service. Staff really try hard to make sure that you are happy and satisfied. Customer service is a huge problem in Moscow but Chaika sets... a great example for others in the industry! Food is delicious and the menu has lots of options for everyone! Atmosphere is great and view is beautiful on the embankment. Special thanks to German & Oleg! More

Thank you for your feedback! Again aboard the yacht restaurant "Chaika" in accordance with the high standards of yacht hospitality.

Highly recommended, great location in the city center of Moscow with a superb atmosphere. Too many menu choices, though all delicious!

Thx a lot for your review! We are looking forward to see you in our restaurants.

Visited this lovely restaurant with a friend of mine. It was relaxingly warm August evening - so the place on the river seemed like a good idea. We came quite early and the restaurant was not full. The hostesses kindly offered several places to sit... and we chose to sit on the sofas. We had some wine, which was good. We struggled a bit when deciding about the food as few options (scallops) were not available. Fish on ice on display did not look very fresh. To be honest it was an unusually hot August and it is probably understandable that some see food options were not available. However, we did manage to order something and sat waiting and looking onto the river. My long-legged friend struggled sitting at the low sofa and the manager noticed that, offering as a very good, proper table beside the open window. It was nice touch and I was very pleased by their polite observations and immediate reaction to solve the problem. Food was quite good and presentation was perfect. Perhaps I can something about the food, but 1 visit is not enough to criticize or make a definitive opinion. Overall, quality place, which of course, does not come cheap. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation. More

Good afternoon! Thank you for your detailed feedback! We are looking forward to seeing you again, we are sure that you will be delighted with our dishes!

I've been here several times during two business trip in Moscow. The overall quality for both service and food is absolutely top-notch, plus the location is very unique.

Hello! Thank you for your feedback! We are looking forward to visiting again!

Good location. Nice views. Good choice of food and drinks. European and Asian menu. Nice service. Pricey enough.

Had a large group dinner here. Food was above average and service quite good. The real attraction is the view of Moscow from the river on a nice night. Great place for a larger group dinner. More

Inside Florida's 'Little Moscow,' where Russian money flows thanks to 'rich daddies' snapping up real estate

  • "Little Moscow" is the nickname for Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, which is flowing with Russian money.
  • Previously a strip of motels, the island was revitalized in the 1990s with luxury developments.
  • Many Russians snapped up properties, but they're afraid sanctions could prevent them from buying more .

Insider Today

Welcome to "Little Moscow."

Like its namesake city, it's home to many Russian elites. Unlike it's namesake city, it's located on a small strip of land near Miami: Sunny Isles Beach, Florida.

"They love to be here, and they like to spend their money and enjoy their life," Lana Bell, a real-estate agent, recently told the News Nation correspondent Brian Entin , referring to her wealthy Russian clientele.

Russian money has brought a real-estate boom to the region over the years, but now these power players are afraid they might not be able to enjoy the Miami sunshine much longer. As Entin reported, they're worried the escalating Russia-Ukraine conflict will blacklist them from buying American real estate, although Bell said it hasn't been a problem so far.

However, existing sanctions from past political events already slowed their buying efforts in recent years, and Biden has said the US will seize luxury apartments from Russian oligarchs with wealth parked in the country. But not all of Little Moscow's residents are wealthy, and not all of them support the war.

Here's a look at the rise of Little Moscow and the lives of the Russians who made it happen.

Sunny Isles Beach is a 1.5-mile strip of island that sits between the Atlantic Ocean and Intracoastal Waterway in South Florida. It's about a 40-minute drive to downtown Miami, depending on traffic.

little traverse yacht club membership

Sunny Isles Beach is located in northeastern Miami-Dade county. As of 2020, it's home to 22,342 people . The most recent data from the Census' American Community Survey that tracked population from 2015 to 2019 shows that there are 1,079 Russian-born residents living there — more than any country in Europe or Asia.

It's a place where beachfront high-rise hotels and condos dot the coastline, towering over an idyllic scene of white-sand beaches and sparkling turquoise water. Compared to the dark and brutal winters of Russia, it's a slice of paradise.

Before becoming a Russian luxury hot spot, the city was full of quirk and charm thanks to beachfront motels and tourists.

little traverse yacht club membership

Fred Grimm wrote in the South Florida Sun Sentinel that the city was "once a linear tableau of South Florida kitsch, a seaside strip of themed motels, offering homage to ancient Egypt, Rome, the wild west, Polynesia, American Indians and so many nautical motifs, including Neptune and his water nymphs."

"Motel Row," a strip of 30 motels along the beach, was built in the 1950s and 1960s, when the city was known as Sunny Isles (before that it was called North Miami Beach). Tourism slowed its roll in the 1970s, resuming some 20 years later when most of the motels were replaced with luxury hotels, and Sunny Isles was renamed Sunny Isles Beach.

The city's luxury-development boom that first began in the 1990s revitalized the city's economy, which began to see an influx of wealth.

little traverse yacht club membership

The median home value in Sunny Isles is $555,042 , higher than the $469,562 median home value in Miami. The most expensive home in the area currently listed on Sotheby's is $13.9 million , and condos can cost as much as  $35 million .

It's a place of well-known luxury. Consider the Porsche Design Tower , where residents can use an elevator for their cars. And the iconic Acqualina Resort was named the country's best continental resort four years in a row by US News & World Report . Nightly rates at the five-star resort start at $2,500 a night .

Among these developments are several Trump Towers, a brand that has held a huge appeal among Russian investors looking to move their money in the post-Soviet economy.

little traverse yacht club membership

Trump doesn't actually own the buildings but licensed the use of his name there, The Washington Post reported . Real-estate agents told the Post in 2016 that Trump's name carries weight among the European, South American, and Asian elite, but especially among Russian oligarchs.

"When Russians get here, the first thing they ask is, 'Where is the Trump building?'" Ilya Masarsky, real-estate developer who has worked with Russian investors in the US, told The Post.

Jose Lima, a salesperson for the company that developed the region's Trump towers, said at the time that Russian speakers bought about one-third of the 500 units he sold.

A 2017 Reuters investigation found that at least 63 members of Russia's elite spent nearly $100 million buying property in Trump buildings in the region, including the nearby city of Hollywood. Reuters called some of the buyers "politically connected businessmen," adding that none seemed to be part of Putin's inner circle.

"Russian patriots are happy here; Sunny Isles is a happy place," Bell, the real-estate agent, told The Daily Beast in 2019 . "Russian men make money at home, they visit their Miami property just for a few months in winter. Some of these rich daddies are in their fifties or older, while their women are in their twenties; the beach is packed with really young pregnant Russian girls, girls with babies."

A past Miami Herald investigation found that some of these buyers were the targets of US government investigations. Experts in illicit financing said Russian money gave the city its nickname of Little Moscow.

little traverse yacht club membership

The Miami Herald found in 2016 that at least 13 personal or company buyers in the Trump Towers were investigated by the government, including a Russian-American organized-crime group and a Mexican banker accused of robbing investors. It also found that about 60% of the units are owned by shell companies, which only hold assets like real estate and can be involved in money laundering.

Experts more recently told the Herald's Michael Wilner that illicit financing has helped Russians spend years snapping up properties along Florida's southeastern coast. They estimated that Russia's elite had more than $1 trillion in offshore accounts, which they said was disproportionally held in South Florida property.

As Julia Friedlander, director of the Atlantic Council's Economic Statecraft Initiative, told the publication, "We know what's happening based on patterns of behavior and observations from various sources, just like parts of Manhattan and parts of London. They're known as places where real estate will reliably retain its value."

The greater Miami region that Sunny Isles Beach is part of is also a popular place for birth tourism. Russian women have fueled a baby boom there in recent years.

A post shared by alesiaasta (@alesiaasta)

As NBC News reported in 2018 , having a baby in Miami is considered a status symbol in Moscow. Russian birth tourists told the publication that giving birth there means getting an American passport and better medical care. It's a legal act, as long as documents are filled out honestly, that allows their children the right to American citizenship and to sponsor their parents for a green card once they turn 21.

Wealthier Russians even hire agencies that offer birth-tourism packages that cost anywhere from $50,000 to $100,000, according to NBC News. Some of these companies offer Trump apartments as part of the package, the Daily Beast's Katie Zavadski reported . For $84,700, expectant Russian mothers can get an apartment in a Trump Tower with a gold-tiled bathtub and chauffeured Mercedes-Benz.

Not all of the money flowing into Little Moscow is from Russia, nor is it all "dirty." And not all of the people who live there are wealthy.

little traverse yacht club membership

The Herald's Wilner reported that the area has also seen investments by overseas buyers in Europe and Latin America.

And, as Ari Odzer reported for local outlet NBC Miami , Sunny Isles Beach is also a sanctuary for refugees from the old Soviet Union and Russians on tourist visas. For this reason, he said, it's also known as Little Kyiv, Little Odessa, and Little Minsk.

Locals told Odzer that the Russia-Ukraine conflict is dividing residents, with some supporting Putin and others who don't but are too afraid to say anything. Odzer wrote "the fear of Putin is a real phenomenon," considering he could barely get any Russians to speak on the record about their president.

Russian real-estate purchasing has been slowing down in recent years because of sanctions.

little traverse yacht club membership

Tightened US sanctions in light of Moscow's interference in the US elections, as well as the Kremlin banning thousands of rich Russian law-enforcement officials from traveling abroad, left many Russians renting or selling their Sunny Isles Beach condos, the Daily Beast's Anna Nemstova reported in 2019 .

"Russians can be easily recognized by their Bentleys and Rolls-Royces," Bell, the Russian real-estate agent, told Nemstova at the time. "But this year the sales have gone down. It is becoming problematic for the Russian elite to take their money out of the country; and here the rules demand full disclosure, the name of the buyer and the source of money."

However, Little Moscow still held the attention of "Russian corrupt bureaucrats," Ilya Shumanov, the deputy head of Transparency International, added. Those who could still travel came during the winter and conducted deals at restaurants in the Bal Harbor mall before returning home to conduct business again, Nemstova wrote.

Brokers also recently told Wilner that Russian purchases have dwindled in the past few years, but said that could change with new developments like the Bentley Tower and the St. Regis Sunny Isles.

Now, Russian elites in the area are worried new sanctions stemming from the Russia-Ukraine conflict could prevent them from buying real estate.

little traverse yacht club membership

President Joe Biden issued sanctions last week targeting Russia's elite and their families and restricting the Kremlin's ability to access Western financial institutions.

"We are extending the reach of US sanctions to prevent the elites close to Putin from using their kids to hide assets, evade costs, and squander the resources of the Russian people," a National Security Council official told Wilner. "This is a new approach."

While Little Moscow's elites are worried future sanctions will threaten their lifestyle, experts told Wilner the sanctions currently in place were unlikely to have a strong effect in South Florida.

Anders Åslund, a Swedish economist and the author of "Russia's Crony Capitalism: The Path From Market Economy to Kleptocracy," doesn't think this will affect the Russian rich in the greater Miami region that Little Moscow is in. He told Wilner that the Miami Russians weren't powerful enough to feel the sanction burn.

As he put it, "These are comfortable people, rather than the top people."

little traverse yacht club membership

Sailboats from across the U.S. head to Harbor Springs each summer for one of the nation’s best-known sailing traditions: the LTYC “Ugotta” Regatta. Hosted by the Little Traverse Yacht Club,  the Ugotta brings some of the best sailboat racers in the country to sail in one of the world’s best sailing venues in Little Traverse Bay. The Ugotta Regatta takes place annually the weekend following the second of the Mackinac Races (Port Huron-Mackinac, Chicago-Mackinac). This year we are celebrating the 60th running of the LTYC Regatta!

LTYC’s Ugotta Regatta is open to all boats 22ft and above so come join us: registration is first come, first served. The racing begins with one-design fleet racing on Friday followed by one-design and tour-of-the-bay courses on Saturday and Sunday.

The weekend’s festivities kick off bright and early Friday morning with a fun tradition: a line of happy people outside Irish Boat Shop waiting to purchase the coveted Ugotta Regatta t-shirt. Each year, the shirt design changes!

New this year is a pre-race party to benefit junior sailing at the American Legion Hall. Friday night finds a Welcome to Harbor Springs celebration at the Irish Boat Shop. LTYC hosts parties at the Yacht Club both Saturday and Sunday afternoon for Regatta participants. The awards ceremony on Sunday afternoon is not to be missed!

The Ugotta Regatta brings to Harbor Springs hundreds of crew members and their families from across the midwest—and beyond. Race watchers either head out onto the water in power boats or watch from the Petoskey State Park or Petoskey’s Sunset Park.

The Comprehensive Guide to Moscow Nightlife

  • Posted on April 14, 2018 July 26, 2018

  • 8 minute read

little traverse yacht club membership

Moscow’s nightlife scene is thriving, and arguably one of the best the world has to offer – top-notch Russian women, coupled with a never-ending list of venues, Moscow has a little bit of something for everyone’s taste. Moscow nightlife is not for the faint of heart – and if you’re coming, you better be ready to go Friday and Saturday night into the early morning.

This comprehensive guide to Moscow nightlife will run you through the nuts and bolts of all you need to know about Moscow’s nightclubs and give you a solid blueprint to operate with during your time in Moscow.

What you need to know before hitting Moscow nightclubs

Prices in moscow nightlife.

Before you head out and start gaming all the sexy Moscow girls , we have to talk money first. Bring plenty because in Moscow you can never bring a big enough bankroll. Remember, you’re the man so making a fuzz of not paying a drink here or there will not go down well.

Luckily most Moscow clubs don’t do cover fees. Some electro clubs will charge 15-20$, depending on their lineup. There’s the odd club with a minimum spend of 20-30$, which you’ll drop on drinks easily. By and large, you can scope out the venues for free, which is a big plus.

Bottle service is a great deal in Moscow. At top-tier clubs, it starts at 1,000$. That’ll go a long way with premium vodka at 250$, especially if you have three or four guys chipping in. Not to mention that it’s a massive status boost for getting girls, especially at high-end clubs.

Without bottle service, you should estimate a budget of 100-150$ per night. That is if you drink a lot and hit the top clubs with the hottest girls. Scale down for less alcohol and more basic places.

Dress code & Face control

Door policy in Moscow is called “face control” and it’s always the guy behind the two gorillas that gives the green light if you’re in or out.

In Moscow nightlife there’s only one rule when it comes to dress codes:

You can never be underdressed.

People dress A LOT sharper than, say, in the US and that goes for both sexes. For high-end clubs, you definitely want to roll with a sharp blazer and a pocket square, not to mention dress shoes in tip-top condition. Those are the minimum requirements to level the playing field vis a vis with other sharply dressed guys that have a lot more money than you do. Unless you plan to hit explicit electro or underground clubs, which have their own dress code, you are always on the money with that style.

Getting in a Moscow club isn’t as hard as it seems: dress sharp, speak English at the door and look like you’re in the mood to spend all that money that you supposedly have (even if you don’t). That will open almost any door in Moscow’s nightlife for you.

Types of Moscow Nightclubs

In Moscow there are four types of clubs with the accompanying female clientele:

High-end clubs:

These are often crossovers between restaurants and clubs with lots of tables and very little space to dance. Heavy accent on bottle service most of the time but you can work the room from the bar as well. The hottest and most expensive girls in Moscow go there. Bring deep pockets and lots of self-confidence and you have a shot at swooping them.

Regular Mid-level clubs:

They probably resemble more what you’re used to in a nightclub: big dancefloors, stages and more space to roam around. Bottle service will make you stand out more but you can also do well without. You can find all types of girls but most will be in the 6-8 range. Your targets should always be the girls drinking and ideally in pairs. It’s impossible not to swoop if your game is at least half-decent.

Basic clubs/dive bars:

Usually spots with very cheap booze and lax face control. If you’re dressed too sharp and speak no Russian, you might attract the wrong type of attention so be vigilant. If you know the local scene you can swoop 6s and 7s almost at will. Usually students and girls from the suburbs.

Electro/underground clubs:

Home of the hipsters and creatives. Parties there don’t mean meeting girls and getting drunk but doing pills and spacing out to the music. Lots of attractive hipster girls if that is your niche. That is its own scene with a different dress code as well.

little traverse yacht club membership

What time to go out in Moscow

Moscow nightlife starts late. Don’t show up at bars and preparty spots before 11pm because you’ll feel fairly alone. Peak time is between 1am and 3am. That is also the time of Moscow nightlife’s biggest nuisance: concerts by artists you won’t know and who only distract your girls from drinking and being gamed. From 4am to 6am the regular clubs are emptying out but plenty of people, women included, still hit up one of the many afterparty clubs. Those last till well past 10am.

As far as days go: Fridays and Saturdays are peak days. Thursday is an OK day, all other days are fairly weak and you have to know the right venues.

The Ultimate Moscow Nightclub List

Short disclaimer: I didn’t add basic and electro clubs since you’re coming for the girls, not for the music. This list will give you more options than you’ll be able to handle on a weekend.

Preparty – start here at 11PM

Classic restaurant club with lots of tables and a smallish bar and dancefloor. Come here between 11pm and 12am when the concert is over and they start with the actual party. Even early in the night tons of sexy women here, who lean slightly older (25 and up).

The second floor of the Ugolek restaurant is an extra bar with dim lights and house music tunes. Very small and cozy with a slight hipster vibe but generally draws plenty of attractive women too. A bit slower vibe than Valenok.

Very cool, spread-out venue that has a modern library theme. Not always full with people but when it is, it’s brimming with top-tier women. Slow vibe here and better for grabbing contacts and moving on.

little traverse yacht club membership

High-end: err on the side of being too early rather than too late because of face control.

Secret Room

Probably the top venue at the moment in Moscow . Very small but wildly popular club, which is crammed with tables but always packed. They do parties on Thursdays and Sundays as well. This club has a hip-hop/high-end theme, meaning most girls are gold diggers, IG models, and tattooed hip hop chicks. Very unfavorable logistics because there is almost no room no move inside the club but the party vibe makes it worth it. Strict face control.

Close to Secret Room and with a much more favorable and spacious three-part layout. This place attracts very hot women but also lots of ball busters and fakes that will leave you blue-balled. Come early because after 4am it starts getting empty fast. Electronic music.

A slightly kitsch restaurant club that plays Russian pop and is full of gold diggers, semi-pros, and men from the Caucasus republics. Thursday is the strongest night but that dynamic might be changing since Secret Room opened its doors. You can swoop here but it will be a struggle.

little traverse yacht club membership

Mid-level: your sweet spot in terms of ease and attractiveness of girls for an average budget.

Started going downwards in 2018 due to lax face control and this might get even worse with the World Cup. In terms of layout one of the best Moscow nightclubs because it’s very big and bottle service gives you a good edge here. Still attracts lots of cute girls with loose morals but plenty of provincial girls (and guys) as well. Swooping is fairly easy here.

I haven’t been at this place in over a year, ever since it started becoming ground zero for drunken teenagers. Similar clientele to Icon but less chic, younger and drunker. Decent mainstream music that attracts plenty of tourists. Girls are easy here as well.

Sort of a Coyote Ugly (the real one in Moscow sucks) with party music and lots of drunken people licking each others’ faces. Very entertaining with the right amount of alcohol and very easy to pull in there. Don’t think about staying sober in here, you’ll hate it.

Artel Bessonitsa/Shakti Terrace

Electronic music club that is sort of a high-end place with an underground clientele and located between the teenager clubs Icon and Gipsy. Very good music but a bit all over the place with their vibe and their branding. You can swoop almost any type of girl here from high-heeled beauty to coked-up hipsters, provided they’re not too sober.

Afterparty: if by 5AM  you haven’t pulled, it’s time to move here.

Best afterparty spot in terms of trying to get girls. Pretty much no one is sober in there and savage gorilla game goes a long way. Lots of very hot and slutty-looking girls but it can be hard to tell apart who is looking for dick and who is just on drugs but not interested. If by 9-10am you haven’t pulled, it is probably better to surrender.

The hipster alternative for afterparties, where even more drugs are in play. Plenty of attractive girls there but you have to know how to work this type of club. A nicer atmosphere and better music but if you’re desperate to pull, you’ll probably go to Miks.

Weekday jokers: if you’re on the hunt for some sexy Russian girls during the week, here are two tips to make your life easier.

Chesterfield

Ladies night on Wednesdays means this place gets pretty packed with smashed teenagers and 6s and 7s. Don’t pull out the three-piece suit in here because it’s a “simpler” crowd. Definitely your best shot on Wednesdays.

If you haven’t pulled at Chesterfield, you can throw a Hail Mary and hit up Garage’s Black Music Wednesdays. Fills up really late but there are some cute Black Music groupies in here. Very small club. Thursday through Saturday they do afterparties and you have an excellent shot and swooping girls that are probably high.

Shishas Sferum

This is pretty much your only shot on Mondays and Tuesdays because they offer free or almost free drinks for women. A fairly low-class club where you should watch your drinks. As always the case in Moscow, there will be cute girls here on any day of the week but it’s nowhere near as good as on the weekend.

In a nutshell, that is all you need to know about where to meet Moscow girls in nightlife. There are tons of options, and it all depends on what best fits your style, based on the type of girls that you’re looking for.

Luckily most Moscow clubs don't do cover fees. Some electro clubs will charge 15-20$, depending on their lineup. There's the odd club with a minimum spend of 20-30$, which you'll drop on drinks easily. By and large, you can scope out the venues for free, which is a big plus. Bottle service is a great deal in Moscow.
