The refit work took two years but was clearly worth it when we look at the result displayed in this second season of the Australian Spin off.

Although the Northern Sun is built by the Japanese Narasaki shipyard, it surely is a boat that fits Australian waters quite well and could delight anyone looking to explore the most rugged locations in style, whether they are polar or tropical.

Northern Sun is available for charter from $161,700 / week . Her latest asking price was $15,000,000 .

In this age of technology and ever-present cameras, it seems impossible to fly under the radar – even more so when you’re one half of one of the industry’s most powerful couples. But money can buy anything, including privacy, in a world that has long forgotten the meaning of the word.

eos yacht below deck

Eos is one of the world’s largest and most famous sailing yachts and a record-breaker until the 2017 arrival of Oceanco’s Black Pearl, a stunning sailing masterpiece that is believed to have inspired the construction of the future record-breaker, Jeff Bezos’ Y721. Whenever Eos makes an appearance in public, much like a superstar, it draws attention and makes headlines, yet, for all this, it remains an enigma.

Here is an attempt to lift the veil as much as possible on this enigma, a $200 million vessel that is said to be the epitome of luxury, elegance and, not in the least important, outstanding design. After all, you don’t become an icon (enigma or not) by conforming to standards.

eos yacht below deck

Eos is named after the Greek goddess of dawn, the daughter of titans Hyperion and Theia, and sister of the sun god and the moon goddess. Eos is a sailing yacht, a three-mast Bermuda-rigged schooner that relies on a couple of MTU 4000-series engines for outstanding performance, regardless of the wind conditions. At full throttle, Eos can hit top speeds of 16 knots (18 mph / 29.5 kph).

eos yacht below deck

Built by luxury shipyard  Lurssen  on a Lurssen naval architecture, an exterior design by Bill Langan, and interiors by Francois Catroux, Eos was delivered in 2006, after a three-year construction phase. Since delivery, it has had one single owner and he’s been keeping it a secret on purpose, as it serves as the family yacht.

That owner is billionaire media mogul Barry Diller, known as  “Diller killer”  in the industry because of his exceptional negotiation skills. He is married to fashion designer (and icon in her own right) Diane von Furstenberg, who is often erroneously referred to as the owner. Together, the two have an estimated net worth of $5.2 billion as of 2022, which means that, yes, they can definitely afford a $200 million vessel, as well as keep it a secret from the public by not chartering it.

eos yacht below deck

At 93 meters (305 feet) in total length, Eos is among the top 5% yachts in the world by LOA. The fact that it’s a sailing vessel would have been enough to draw all eyes to it at port, but the three 61-meter (200-foot) masts make it an unforgettable sight, as does the deep dark blue hull. Eos has a teak deck, an aluminum hull, and aluminum superstructure. Much of the superstructure was repaired after an extensive fire in 2012, when the ship was at harbor while Diller and von Furstenberg were visiting ashore.

eos yacht below deck

A later refit program, throughout 2018 and 2019, was even more extensive: the Rodal rigs were removed, repaired and repainted, the hull and superstructure were repainted, the tank arrangement was reorganized and the engines were overhauled. Onboard systems like the treatment unit and the watermaker were also serviced then, and navigation systems were brought up to speed with state-of-the-art equipment.

eos yacht below deck

With an interior volume of 1,500 GT, Eos offers accommodation for 14 guests across seven suites and a crew of 21 – a necessarily high number because sailing it is no single-man job. Eos was never offered for charter, though legend has it that it has hosted some of the biggest stars in the world, including Jeff Bezos on his final week as Amazon CEO in 2021, singer and actor Harry Styles, and television host and reality star producer Andy Cohen.

eos yacht below deck

Because it’s always been used privately, details on the interior are as scarce as photos of the same, but again, legend has it that features a viewing lounge with panoramic views, a jacuzzi, a 4.2-meter (14-foot) mural of the world map, and a most glamorous staircase made of glass. A 2.7-meter (9-foot) tall sculpture by Anh Duong, showing Diane von Furstenberg, graces Eos as figurehead. von Furstenberg usually posts to social while onboard Eos during summer-long journeys, but she always makes sure her photos don’t show much of the interior.

eos yacht below deck

In 2009, when Eos pulled into an Australian port for some maintenance work, captain Lucas Alexander told the local  media  that sailing Eos felt like living in a high-end villa at sea. He also said that the vessel never traveled by a preset itinerary, which, if true, probably helps with keeping it a mystery.

The Yachts and Filming Destinations of Below Deck

of The Yachts and Filming Destinations of Below Deck

The best jobs are often defined by the perks they offer: a high pay, flexibility of work hours, etc. But what if one perk of your job was the opportunity to travel to exotic locations on a super-luxurious cruise? This is exactly the kind of “dream job” that the cast of ‘Below Deck ’ have.

‘Below Deck’ is a reality television series that follows several crew members of a luxury yacht that travels to a holiday destination with numerous guests. The crew are faced with countless challenges as they aim to make the guests’ experience as hospitable and pleasant as possible. Often called “yachties,” the crew members juggle various personal conflicts as they strive to work hard and party harder by visiting some truly mesmerizing places.

Below Deck Filming Locations

Each season, a new group of guests are seen aboard the ‘Below Deck’ yacht. Apart from that, the destination also changes as the ‘Below Deck’ crew get an opportunity to travel to another location altogether, more vibrant than the last.

Many of you might be wondering where ‘Below Deck’ is actually filmed. Well, owing to the format of the show, most of the filming for ‘Below Deck’ takes place aboard a luxurious yacht. Apart from that, the locations that the yacht travels to are also picturesquely depicted on the show. These gorgeous locales are one of the highlights of the series, to be honest.

Majority of the filming for ‘Below Deck’ takes place on the multi-million dollar yacht that the crew operates and manages. Most of the crew is rejigged each season, save for the captain, Lee Rosbach who leads the operations.

For the seventh season of the show, a yacht named “Valor” is used. The same charter vessel had been used for the fourth and fifth season of the show. However, outside the show, the yacht is called “BG.” Just to get an idea on how premium “BG” or “Valor” is, consider its weekly rental rate (exclusive of fuel charges): $160,500.

https://twitter.com/brunodsailor/status/909826220761796608

A yacht named “My Seanna” was used for filming the sixth season of the show while “Eros/Mustang Sally,” “Ohana/Rhino” and “Honor/Lumiere” were used for shooting the third, second and first seasons of ‘Below Deck’ respectively.

The seventh season of ‘Below Deck’ was filmed in Thailand. The yacht sailed the Andaman Sea and the Phang Nga Bay. The Southeast Asian country is known for its beautiful, sandy beaches and pristine islands.

The Ao Po Grand Marina in Phuket serves as the home port for Valor on season 7 of ‘Below Deck.’ The docking location acts as a gateway to the Phang Nga Bay and has several bars and restaurants to serve those sailing. This is where the crew of ‘Below Deck’ kick back their feet and enjoy a night of drinking, or two.

Moreover, Ko Poda Island is also one of the locations where the yacht will be heading to for the seventh season. The imposing and magnificent island has become quite a hub for snorkeling thanks to the shallow stretches of water around its clean, sandy coast. Apart from that, the iconic Phi Phi Islands are also a filming location and destination for ‘Below Deck’ apart from Koh Rang Yai Island, Ko Yao Yai and Laem Krating.

Other Locations

As mentioned earlier, ‘Below Deck’ takes its crew and guests to a different part of the globe in each season. For instance, the sixth season of the show was set outside the Caribbean region, in the islands of Tahiti. On the other hand, the fifth season was set and filmed in St. Martin while the fourth season took place in the Virgin Islands . Bahamas serves as the location for the third season while the second season was set in the British Virgin Islands and the first one around the Caribbean.

By Charlotte Ashley   25 August 2015

The decks have been polished, charter guests have stepped on board and the crew have no doubt had many adventures on board. It’s that time a year again - a new batch of charter guests will come aboard the motor yacht EROS (real name Mustang Sally) each week for a luxury vacation in the Bahamas. The life and work of the hard-working crew on board will be shared with hundreds of thousands of viewers who are finally treated to the brand new series of Below Deck.

"The only thing predictable about season 3 is that it is totally unpredictable," says the well-travelled Captain Rosbach, who returns with three other crew members from Season 2 (Kate, Amy and Eddie) and five new crew members to work a summer charter season on board EROS. He also assures fans of the unscripted show that there will definitely be “plenty of intense drama to go around” this year.

Sold for $17.9 million in 2013, the superyacht featured in the show is named EROS for the series, but currently charters for $175,000 - $200,000 per week (plus add-ons) in the Mediterranean and Caribbean as Mustang Sally. She was built by U.S. shipyard Trinity Yachts in 2008.

As seen in the tour above, charter guests who have vacationed in the Caribbean on EROS this summer for the series have enjoyed amenities including an 8-person Jacuzzi, ship-wide music system, outdoor bar and barbecue area and gym. Able to accommodate up to 11 guests in five modern classic-styled staterooms, her spacious layout features a lavish master suite, three double cabins and a twin cabin, with one Pullman berth.

Water toys include Waverunners, water-skis, scuba diving gear and a range of towables, with underwater lights illuminating from her swimming platform in the evenings to ensure guests of Mustang Sally can enjoy a dip at any time of day.

To find out more information about M/Y Mustang Sally, please get in touch with your preferred yacht charter broker .

The only thing predictable about season 3 is that it is totally unpredictable.

STAY SALTY superyacht – star of the season three of the Below Deck series

Built by US shipyard Trinity Yachts in 2008, the Owners of M/Y STAY SALTY  (ex Hunter, Mustang Sally, Destination Fox Harb’r Too)  made sure she was also looking her best and received a refit just before filming began in August 2015. The gorgeous interiors combine past and present trends, and the facilities are just as comprehensive, catering to a wide variety of guests.

The Interiors

The interiors from Patrick Knowles were inspired by European spa resorts and are designed to appeal for a variety of charter purposes. As such, they offer laid back elegance that merges traditional and contemporary appeal by using Lacewood, Redwood burl and Honduran mahogany accented with satin nickel. A sharp eye will notice all the neo-classical touches throughout, from the mirror surrounds to the balustrades and the lighting fixtures.

When it comes to entertainment both the main salon and skylounge can host a fantastic soiree: There is a wet bar on both decks and the main salon has a 42″ widescreen TV with surround sound, while the skylounge has a 62″ widescreen TV along with a game table and a library. Of course, the main salon also comes with the 12-seater formal dining area.

A pair of engines gives a faster-than-average cruising speed of 16 knots and a top speed of 20 knots, letting guests make excellent time between destinations for a yacht of this size and volume.

The Exteriors

The raked bow and champagne-coloured hull give superyacht hunter a sleek modern look that will impress from afar and when additional visitors come on board for dockside events. Cocktails can be ready and waiting on the large swim platform, which is perfect for lazy days beside the turquoise waters of the Caribbean & Bahamas luxury yacht charter grounds.

Spacious aft deck are ideal for entertainment and socialising

Spacious aft deck are ideal for entertainment and socialising

The main deck aft is a casual outdoor environment where the group can discuss their morning around the coffee table while the professional crew creates refreshments at the indoor/outdoor wet bar.

When it comes to dining alfresco, the upper deck aft has a close atmosphere between guests thanks to the round table design, and strong lighting ensures that the area can be used even after sundown – ideal for meals at sunset followed by fireworks, or a film or sports on the widescreen TV. The group can savour a top-quality meal prepared by the expert onboard chef, who will cater to all the dietary requirements within the group. Couples looking for a bit more privacy can head forward to the loveseat on the Portuguese deck, where there’s also a table for meals together or a nightcap.

Once charter guests have explored their beautiful destination, most head to the sundeck for a dip into the forward Jacuzzi or rest on the sunpads until a lunch prepared on the barbeque grill is served in the shade. Just like the main deck and upper deck, the sundeck has a wet bar for fast and efficient service.

The Accommodation

The generous accommodation is a tranquil sanctum that accommodates up to 12 guests across 5 en-suite cabins: 1 Master suite, 3 VIP staterooms and 1 twin cabin with a Pullman berth ideal for children.

Upon entering the main deck Master suite there is a queen-sized sleeper sofa and en-suite bathroom enclosed in its own space. This can be used as an alternative cabin to the selection on the lower deck, or as a private lounge. The main Master bedroom farther forward boasts a king-sized bed with a widescreen TV opposite, plus plenty of seating and wardrobe space for guests who have a packed social calendar and a different gown or suit for each occasion. The en-suites have a ‘get-up-and-go’ setup in the one bathroom with a sink, toilet and shower, while the second bathroom invites guests to a long soak in the spa bathtub, as well as offering all the amenities of the first.

Retreat to a private suite after a relaxing day on board.

Guests in the VIP staterooms and the twin cabin have not been neglected either: Each cabin has a top-quality mattress and bedding, plus TV entertainment to wind down before a comfortable night’s rest.

The Water Toys

Wherever M/YSTAY SALTY travels, she takes with her a great collection of water toys from high speed to low energy to suit guests’ preferences of the moment:

  • Waverunners
  • water skis
  • snorkelling equipment
  • towable toys are just some of the toys found onboard…

Below Deck Stars With The Biggest Egos

  • Reality stars on Below Deck often develop egos from media attention and rotating casts.
  • Beloved crew like Aesha Scott can return, but egos can inflate, affecting behavior.
  • Captain Sandy is known for authoritative decisions, while chefs like Adam and Ben let their egos shine.

Plenty of Below Deck crew members who've been on the show have massive egos. Reality stars garner large egos, inflated by the press and the attention surrounding their shows. Below Deck often features a rotating cast, meaning individuals have one chance to make a good impression on the audience . This can lead to crew members acting out of character and putting on for the cameras. There were plenty of crew members from Below Deck season 11 who demonstrated villainous behavior that stirred up drama for the show.

There have been so many personalities featured in the Below Deck franchise. Some have been deemed fan-favorite crew members who return for multiple appearances. Aesha Scott is one of those beloved personalities, ranking as one of the best Below Deck chief stews ever. The crew, captains, and audience take a liking to some crew over others. Sometimes, when a Below Deck star starts getting a little attention, it can all go to their head and, in return, their egos.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.

Captain Sandy Yawn

Below deck mediterranean seasons 2-9.

Captain Sandy Yawn has been the resident captain on Below Deck Mediterranean since season 2 of the spin-off series. She’s known for her no-nonsense attitude that some think makes her the best Below Deck captain of the franchise. On the contrary, Captain Sandy has had to make some tough, controversial decisions throughout the years. She is not afraid to exert her power as captain, which can intimidate her crew. Captain Sandy has the experience to be a little bit egotistical, and Below Deck Med wouldn’t be the same without her.

Below Deck Mediterranean Seasons 3 & 4, Below Deck Down Under Season 2

João Franco’s behavior during Below Deck Med season 3 was entirely unacceptable. He's so egotistical he self-named his alter-ego, Jezabob , who would come out in his worst moments. João channeled Jezabob when he was drinking. When he was drunk, he degraded many of his fellow women crew members and got rather aggressive. João called Aesha a “ Russian prostitute ” and broke a glass in his hands one night when the crew was out. He changed his ways in Below Deck Med season 4, but his ego was only inflated more when Captain Sandy promoted him to bosun.

Rachel Hargrove

Below deck seasons 8-10.

Despite having somewhat of an ego, Chef Rachel Hargrove is still one of the best Below Deck chefs . She was the chef during Below Deck seasons 8-10 and was beloved for her impeccable cooking skills. At times, Chef Rachel could be dismissive when given requests. During Below Deck season 8, she fled the yacht when she didn’t want to make what the guests wanted for dinner . Sometimes, it was Chef Rachel’s way or the highway, though she still succeeded at winning over guests and fans alike.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 1 & Below Deck Mediterranean Seasons 2 & 3

Adam Glick was the first chef on Below Deck Sailing Yacht and appeared in two seasons of Below Deck Med . He notably went against a request for no onions in any dishes from a group of charter guests during Below Deck Med season 2. Chef Adam did not care about their no-onion rule at all. He was asked on three separate occasions not to cook onions but did so anyway. Chef Adam thought that he knew best and continued to include onions in their food despite being asked not to.

Leon Walker

Below deck season 3.

Chef Leon Walker had an abundance of talent during Below Deck season 3. However, where he faulted was his ability to apply critique. Chef Leon butted heads with Chief Stew Kate Chastain throughout his time on the season. He was unwilling to adjust his dishes and to cook what the charter guests had requested during Below Deck season 3. Chef Leon was eventually fired for starting a fire in the galley due to his uncleanliness. The fire was preventable, but he was very stubborn and didn’t take any advice from his fellow crew members.

Ben Willoughby

Below deck seasons 10 & 11.

Ben Willoughby’s ego was out of control in Below Deck season 11. He went into the charter season with one year under his bet, having appeared on Below Deck season 10 the year prior. Heading into the new season, Ben wanted to be hired by Captain Kerry Titheradge as the St. David’s Bosun . He told Us Weekly it felt like he was “ taking a step down ” by joining as a deckhand. Ben was upset Jared Woodin got the job instead of him and was critical of his performance as bosun during the start of the charter season.

However, Jared was fired, Ben took over his role, and Ben was overjoyed. His ego was displayed again throughout the season in his boatmance with Sunny Marquis. Ben strung her along and was ambiguous about the state of their relationship. During one charter, he posted on Instagram that he wasn’t over his ex, Camille Lamb, while he was still hooking up with Sunny. Ben thought that he could have his cake and eat it too. He was rather power-hungry during Below Deck season 11.

Tom Checketts

Below deck mediterranean season 5.

Chef Tom Checketts joined Below Deck Med season 5 late as the replacement for Chef Hindrigo “Kiko” Lorran. He wasn’t expecting to join the season but stepped in as requested by his then-girlfriend and fellow crew member Malia White. Chef Tom was a little unprepared heading into the season, but he did a great job as a chef. He bragged about working with Gordon Ramsay to his crew members and said his mother had cooked for Queen Elizabeth. Tom was one of the most unhinged chefs from the Below Deck franchise .

Eddie Lucas

Below deck seasons 1-3, 8-9.

Eddie Lucas was full of himself during his multiple seasons of Below Deck . He went as far as to cheat on his then-girlfriend during Below Deck season 3 with stewardess Rocky Dakota. Eddie thought he had everything under control and hid their boatmance from the crew. He thought he was cool enough to have two girlfriends but forgot that his then-girlfriend would see all the footage of his affair on TV. On Below Deck season 9, he also didn’t do anything when Rayna Lindsey told him that Heather Chase said a racial slur in front of her.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Seasons 2-5

Gary King is a controversial crew member on Below Deck Sailing Yacht . He’s been involved in many boatmances over his tenure on the series. His ability to swoon over women has likely boosted his ego. However, the fans think Gary is very problematic because of his behavior on the show. He’s had serious allegations made about him by the Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4 makeup artist Samantha Suarez. Per Rolling Stone , she alleged Gary grabbed and restrained her one night when he was drunk. Samantha reported this to Below Deck production, and no further action was taken.

Ryan McKeown

Below deck down under season 1.

Chef Ryan McKeown thought he was better than everyone on Below Deck Down Under season 2. Throughout the season, he was disrespectful to those around him. Chef Ryan took things a little too far when he was rude to his captain and didn’t greet guests when they boarded the superyacht. He had a negative attitude that seeped into his performance as a chef. Captain Jason Chambers ended up firing him, which was the best decision for the rest of the crew.

There have been many Below Deck stars with huge egos across the franchise. It can be exciting for the yachties when they make it onto the show. However, it can get to their heads, leading them to act outrageous and out of character.

Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 premieres Monday, June 3 at 9 p.m. EDT on Bravo.
