Where elegance and yachting combine, the yacht club is one of the most exclusive places in Monaco. The building, whose shape is reminiscent of a ship, houses luxurious lounges, theatres for prestigious ceremonies, private parties and other official presentations. A nautical club founded in 1953, it has nearly 1600 members and brings together owners of classic and modern boats, motor-yachts as well as recreational and regatta sailboats. The club has been chaired by Prince Albert II since 1984.

In 2005, the President of the club launched the “La Belle Classe” label, to unite shipowners around a Charter, defending essential values: respect for etiquette, protection of the environment, preservation of the heritage of classic yachts and innovation for superyachts.

Then, on 20 June 2014, the Yacht Club began a new venture, with the opening of its new Club House, in a building approved by Lord Norman Foster. This showcase of Monégasque Yachting has encouraged – in accordance with the Sovereign’s wishes – the creation of the “Yachting Monaco” Cluster and “La Belle Classe Academy”. The latter is a training centre specialising in super yachting.

The Yacht Club de Monaco celebrates its 70th anniversary!

salle de sport yacht club monaco

The Yacht Club de Monaco was founded by Prince Rainier III in 1953, and H.S.H. Prince Albert II has been the organisation's President since 1984. The Club is famously associated with the maritime 'art de vivre' and hosts prestigious events that ensure Monaco is at the centre of the sailing world throughout the year.

The 2023 season began in style for younger sailors, with 64 competitors aged under 14 from 16 nations arriving in January for the 13th Monaco Optimist Team Race. The international elite then came together off the Principality for some 120 top level races!

salle de sport yacht club monaco

This winter, one-design racing is dropping anchor in the Principality. The best J/70 crews (a class of regatta yachts, most of which adopted Monaco as their training base to prepare for major races) will be in the waters off the Principality from 2 to 5 February for the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series, ahead of the Primo Cup-Trophée Crédit Suisse from 2 to 5 March. That event, since its creation in 1985 by H.S.H. Prince Albert II, has established itself as the biggest European one-design elite meeting in the Mediterranean.

Following the course set by the Principality, the Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) is also committed to sustainable development. Organised from 20 to 26 March by the Albert II Foundation in conjunction with the Oceanographic Museum and the Centre Scientifique de Monaco, Monaco Ocean Week is an important fixture of the Monegasque calendar, a prominent event that aims to raise awareness about the conservation of marine ecosystems. The Yacht Club de Monaco will be contributing to the week's activities  by hosting the 12th Environmental Symposium on the theme "Encouraging the future of more responsible yachting".

The future is a priority for the YCM, as reflected in the hosting of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, which is now into its 11th year. From 3 to 8 July, this meeting on the theme of alternative energy sources will bring together young engineers and stakeholders from the yachting industry. In its sights will be the first E-Boat Rally, which will offer the public a glimpse at the future of yachting.

The climax of a busy 2023 will be the famous Monaco Classic Week – La Belle Classe. The charm of yachting will be calling at the Principality from 13 to 16 September, an opportunity to discover the most prestigious vintage sailboats, classic motor yachts. This year's 16th edition of the event will be particularly special, as Monaco marks the centenary of the birth of Prince Rainier III.

The varies and prestigious calendar is worthy of the YCM's "Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting" strategy, aimed at positioning the Principality as a leading centre of excellence in this sector!

Yacht Class n°18 (sept-oct-nov 2019)

Yacht club de monaco.

Since December, eleven young athletes of Monaco have integrated the Monaco Sport Academy. A structure whose goal is to help them reach the highest level in sport, but first and foremost to support them in their sporting and personal fulfilment.

Written by Aurore Teodoro – Photos : Sidney Guillemin / Yacht Club de Monaco

The Yacht Club de Monaco was a bustle on June 14th. While all the competitors of the Rolex Giraglia had already arrived, a new generation of sailors was about to go to sea. And face a capricious Mediterranean for a demonstration, inaugurating the very first event of the Monaco Sport Academy, its new structure, officially launched in December at the 2018 YCM Awards. A day with and for the young academicians, with three workshops on the theme “a healthy mind in a healthy body” followed by a cocktail, attended by over 200 people including personalities from sport, business, politics, local authorities and education.

Academy of sport, school of life

“To train the athletes of tomorrow and support them in their personal, psychological, sporting and academic development”, with the ambition of “raising the Monaco flag high on podiums of national, international and world championships, and the Olympics” and “helping them become the citizens of tomorrow”… this is the ambition of the Monaco Sport Academy, an initiative of YCM General Secretary Bernard d’Alessandri, and Philippe Ghanem, an active member of the Club. “The idea came from M. Ghanem, who wanted to reach out. We looked at ways to pass on, as is the tradition at the club. It still follows in the tradition of education, the transmission of the values of the club, the yachting and the sport , Bernard d’Alessandri underlined. Until now, we were in charge of the technical part. We were providing a boat and a technical coach. But we realized we were limited and that the kids needed something more.” And this little extra is a real platform, using the club facilities and its La Belle Classe Academy training centre, that offers a sophrologist, physical and mental coaches, a nutritionist, a guidance counsellor and a coordinating doctor. They all work together, in collaboration with the parents and the educational system, to provide a support adapted to the needs of each athletes, well beyond the sole sporting aspect. And this formula is successful. “ Before, I had to manage everything – the sophrology, the coach – and put them in touch. This project is athlete-centered. We just have to take the boat and go at sea or complete the planned assignment, it helps us be more focused on our sports career” , explained Jeremy Moutout, whose ambitions is to participate in the 2024 Olympics Games in Laser sailing. The 20-year-old Monegasque is one member of the first promotion, which comprises eleven academicians, from 13 to 24-year-old, Monegasque or residing in Monaco, from three nautical disciplines: sailing (laser, nacre 15 & optimist), jet ski and kitesurf. The first of a long lineage, as the ambition is to eventually open up to “new sports and new activities , explains Philippe Ghanem. The YCM platform is discreet but huge”.

Seadventures courses

Sailing during the school holidays.

Learn! Improve! Have Fun!

In, on and under the water , that’s the slogan for the courses organised during school holidays by the Yacht Club de Monaco’s Sports Section.

Open to 6-17 year-olds, these week-long camps are a great way for children to discover the joys of watersports like sailing, snorkelling, paddleboarding, kayaking and outings into the bay in a RIB. They also get to learn about and appreciate the marine environment with a visit to the Oceanographic Museum, coastal walks and sessions with the Maritime Police on values and rules to respect at sea. It is open to children of Club members or those attending school in the Principality, who are divided into three groups: Moussaillons (6-7 year-olds), Matelots (8-11 year-olds) and Marins (12 year-olds and up). The youngest will be sailing on Bugs, in pairs for the Moussaillons, solo for the Matelots, while the older ones, the Marins, will be racing on Toppers. It’s not just about learning how to sail, but is an education in the sea and all it has to offer through a range of fun activities, depending on weather conditions, from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

Lunch is provided by the Club every day of the camp and participants will be advised on what to wear.
