Top 10 Downeast Boats - That You Can Buy for Under $1 Million

Many many years ago, as a young, enthusiastic, and energetic sailor, I had a conversation one evening with an old friend of my father's.

We sat on the engine box top of his motor yacht, quenching our thirst, in the setting sun. His hair, I remember was all white, skin like boot leather and a way of speaking which involved long pauses before even the shortest of his sentences were uttered. I was no doubt naive and honestly, probably rather blinded, by my then unbridled excitement for ocean racing.

I was intrigued and puzzled.

Here was a man I knew who had traveled in sailing yachts, extensively across oceans, before and after the last great war, regaling me with tales of his great passion for and his long experience of, voyaging under sail.

He was, however, rather astonishingly, I thought, ... telling me all this from the stern of a motor yacht which he now owned.

Completely incongruous ... I said to myself at the time!

Why, I asked him, do you own this vessel, when your eyes light up when reminiscing about sailing yachts?

He smiled and then .... after the mandatory long pause, replied: "You will young man someday, if you are fortunate, come to understand."

Fifty years later I possibly do!

Over the years, my reflexes have slowed, my desire to work the foredeck on a cold and windy night has abated some, and the word "easier" has increasingly edged into my conversations. I have learned to channel my energies more selectively. A good night's sleep in a level bunk is now far nearer the top of my mind and yes, I must admit, a large stable platform and the ability to really live...... below decks, while underway have all worked their way into my priorities.

The result is that I pay attention these days, more than ever, to a well built, commodious, power yacht. Having sold our larger sailing yacht, I have been investigating what should be next in the family. I have come to some conclusions!

I must also confess right up front that my eye is particularly drawn to those that have the lines of what most of us call a "down east" style. A low profile, lobster boat lines and slightly less yachty, more working boat look appeal to my nature.

Let me share some of these findings with you and even one or two (if you will permit) of my opinions!

There are many well-built power vessels available on the brokerage market these days.

For the purposes of this article, and reflecting some of my own priorities, I have been guided, (in addition to my prejudice toward my preferred style,) by considerations of quality construction and performance, good or at least reasonable resale value, a strong eye to roominess/comfort and a purchase price of less than 7 figures in US dollars.

I have limited my choice to 10 vessels and must, therefore, of necessity, omit some very good alternatives. I list my choices and comment on them in no particular order.

Top 10 Downeast Boats  - That You Can Buy for Under $1 Million

Image 0984:

The Sabre line has a very solid reputation. Several of these vessels including the 48’ must be a serious candidate when the criteria outlined are all considered. In addition, the brand holds resale value, has well thought out accommodations and several recent design ideas integrated into the traditional look and interior finish. She is large enough to accommodate 2 couples in comfort, each with head and shower. The addition of a captain’s quarters below salon sole allow extra accommodations for crew/family members.

Her expansive foredeck is a great lounging area and her stern cockpit dining table and retractable rear cabin window creates a large outdoor living/entertainment space.

Market offering prices are affected by vessel conditions and options and can vary noticeably depending on the brand and style of the vessel's power. Pros/cons between the Volvo/pod combination, the Cummins/Zeus duo or more traditional straight shaft drives are important considerations here.

  • 48’ models on the brokerage market range from 2012 in the mid $600,000’s to very recent models at or just above $1 Million
  • Sabre 48 models on the brokerage market range from 2012 models in the mid $ 600,000s to very recent models that can reach as high as $ 1,400,000. There are generally a fair amount of options available, so buyers will have a nice selection to choose from.
  • Sabre models in the 40 to 46 size range vary in age and configuration but can be purchased as low as $300,000 for a good quality but older model.

Image 0980:

The Hinckley Company has built a remarkable brand over the years. Their power line includes several vessels in the range of 44’to 55’.

Many Hinckley’s offered on the brokerage market are available at prices which are now more economical, relatively speaking, than at new.

The name brand, the associated appeal to some buyers, the quality of construction and the classic appearance overall, over the decades, maintained their attraction to a segment of the market. For this reason, they are rarely advertised at bargain prices although occasionally examples of this brand come on brokerage, usually due to seller circumstances, at prices which make them within reach of the value buyer.

Again condition, options and maintenance history are always factors. Power plant options are an interesting aspect of these vessels as more and more alternatives become available on the brokerage market, including electronic diesel-jet drive combos.

  • 55’ Talaria 2005-6s offered at slightly over and slightly under $1 Million.
  • 44' Talaria models, 2003-8, offered at $500-800,000.

GRAND BANKS/EASTBAY

Image 0979:

The Grand Banks name has been among the honor gallery for pleasure motor yachts for many years resulting in part from its original line of wood, classic trawler style vessels. Brand construction was converted to fiberglass as this material took its place among boat builders. Eventually the "Classic" design was transformed into the more modern East Bay line, keeping of course a "Down East "look. The vessels have a reputation for quality build, sea kindliness, fine finish and have an enthusiastic and substantial following.

One extremely interesting aspect of this brand is the large number of 40-55 ft vessels of both the classic and East Bay version that are available literally around the world. One can buy a GB and start an adventure from most major international yacht centers, a demonstration of their popularity as a brand and proof of how widely known and accepted they are. The variety of models in this size range also allows a purchaser almost any interior configuration that suits and, in a vintage/price point acceptable.

Grand Banks hold their value well and many of the more popular models are, it seems, always available in brokerage. Newer vintages are now appearing on the resale market with pod drives and seakeepers. The classic line trawlers are numerous on the market and ones in very good condition can be acquired at very reasonable prices.

  • 44’ East Bay from $300,000 to about $1M based on model years ranging from 2003-2017
  • The larger models, with sizes in the range of 50 ft, are also available for well under $900,000

  WESMAC

Image 0985:

The Wesmac brand has a reputation as a very well built, seagoing, commercial grade vessel and as a general statement their pricing reflects that. They are considered my many howeveras not as "yachty" as other brands and tend toward a more serviceable finish and appearance.

The design involves more rear deck working space, with a lobster boat set of lines and not surprisingly less interior cabin space and fewer accommodations than other brands. That said many have been built/converted to yachts, providing owners who wish to spend more time offshore, with sturdy reliable service and less fancy maintenance.

Most on the brokerage market are economical single diesel engine models, although a few twin power do exist. All are straight shaft. Vessels in some lengths are available in fly bridge models in addition to the traditional lobster boat and express design.

Pricing covers a broad range with:

  • 1998 36’ traditional lobster boat design at $260,000
  • 2008 flybridge model at $800,000
  • 2018 46’ for just over $1 Million

Image 0978:

Bruckmann is perhaps less well known than others referred to here but among those who do know them these vessels garner great respect. Builders of both power and sail vessels, the power line tends to the down east styling and is frankly reminiscent of the Talaria from a distance. The largest power production model is the 40' classic, a few of which do come on the brokerage market occasionally.

They are smaller than the other yachts mentioned in this article (being designed around a single double berth cabin) but with a large, airy salon and rear cockpit deck. Single diesel, straight shaft drives and a very nice interior finish cap off a strong and pleasing looking vessel.

  • 2012 Bruckmann 40 version, located in freshwater, low hours, in very good condition, priced at $650000
  • Search Bruckmann Yachts for Sale

Image 0982:

The MJM line burst upon the power yacht scene some years ago, conceived by a very experienced builder, with several new ideas about what would interest older sailors, moving to power. The result was a line of yachts that could perhaps be best described as a "modern version of the old "Down East". Low in profile, slightly reminiscent of a working fishing boat, bright, airy, open space, soft lines and just a hint of being ahead of its design day. Big on the "deck to interior salon space" concept, with a more compact approach to state rooms, a no wood exterior and a less woody interior, means the MJM has trimmed back vessel maintenance, with an eye to not interfering with cocktail hour. Modern strong materials are used throughout.

She will get you there quickly with the planning hull and lots of power. Speaking of power, and depending upon size, these boats are available with diesel straight shaft or stern drives with some of the newer ones featuring pods (Cummins or Volvo IPS). All come with a joystick for easy maneuvering and a design intended to accommodate shorthandedness.

All this comes, however, with a price!

These vessels are available in a broad range of sizes starting from 30’ (they call it 29z) and growing to 56’ in length (the 53z). The larger versions' pricing, both new and used, will well exceed 6 figures. In order to stay under $1M on the brokerage market, some combination of experience and size must be considered. In my opinion the 36z model (which is 39’ LOA) is probably the minimum size that would allow a couple to cruise extendedly, in some comfort.

  • 36z 2012-13 versions offered at about $560,000
  • 40z models (LOA 44’) an '09 and an '11, offered between $650,000 - $850,000
  • Search MJM Yachts for Sale

LITTLE HARBOR

Image 0981:

Little Harbor yachts must be mentioned here, although availability is an issue. They rate extremely high on the price / quality ratio even though new vessel production ended years ago. The Little Harbor is simply a great boat. Most come with the Whisper Jet Drive, but some are available with a diesel straight shaft.

Built for several years by Ted Hood's Company, then constructed overseas, these boats were well designed, well-built and very nicely finished. Although there was the odd one built to 52’ LOA, most of the production line vessels were in the 32’ to 44’ size.

The interior is really designed for one couple cruising, with its single double cabin forward and convertible dinette.

The 42’, 40’and 38’ versions are similar in layout, slightly smaller but of equal quality of course. The Yanmar diesels with shaft or Jet drives, interior yacht finish, a good ride, and a reputation for reliability all produce a beautiful "down east" looking little ship.

Brokerage LH boats, in the range of 15-20 years old, should have their condition and level of maintenance thoroughly verified. Any owner must also know that future care would be very important here. Pricing with these vessels is a very pleasant surprise for this quality.

  • 44’ versions are advertised for under $300,000 and go down from there
  • Prices as low as $125,000 for the smaller models are available
  • Search Little Harbor Yachts for Sale

Image 0977:

This venerable American yacht designer and his products are well known to those of us with some miles under our keel. A standout with sail he eventually was in involved in the production of some very fine power vessels.

These again are a line of yachts that, sadly, are no longer produced, but are part of the well designed, well-built genre of yesteryear still available through resale. All construction was, for its day, first class with traditional interior wood finish and a relatively (by todays standard) simple layout.

These vessels are part of American nautical history and as such, most have been exceptionally well maintained, a reflection of the sophistication of their ownership. All are diesel powered with, of course, straight shaft, as was their time.

  • 1999 40’ Express is a one cabin optional layout with Yanmar power, 2600 hours and a very fine finish with impressive maintenance, listed at $375,000
  • 2005 49’ Express is also a one stateroom vessel, designed to be very roomy and commodious, both below and in the main salon. The 2 Cummins engines have only 1650 hours on them and the interior is impeccable. She is listed at $540,000
  • 56’ Flybridge is a 2 stateroom layout with a roomy fine interior, also apparently well maintained, she is powered by twin Caterpillar diesels, with only approx. 1900 hours on them.

Quality from a few years ago, standing the test of times, at very attractive prices!

Image 0986:

Vicem Yachts are built in Turkey by an established company, family owned. They are not as well-known as many other brands in North America but do have traditional "downeast" good looks and a quality build.

Their traditional construction is composite, cross layered epoxy soaked mahogany strips encased with fiberglass mat and resin. They now can build in cored fiberglass, but this is relatively recent and therefore most vessels on the brokerage market are the composite. The joinery is of a high standard and finished in traditional woods. The vessels are all outfitted with world class mechanical, electrical, plumbing, communications and navigation equipment, with buyer choice as to diesel engines, straight shaft or pod drives. They also boast the ability to modify any layout of their production models to accommodate much of what a new buyer may wish to change.

The builder also provides North American warranties and support. One of the great attractions of this line is pricing, both as to new and on resale. The builder can take advantage of local Turkish labor rates to produce, out of the door, vessels at extremely competitive prices, when compared to the other yachts listed in this article.

This has a trickledown effect on prices in the brokerage market. Provided, as with all used vessels, that she has been well maintained, and that in particular, any additions to hull or decks have been done properly to ensure no water intrusion, these boats can be an attractive alternative.

Another advantage is that there are several choices on the brokerage sheets, sometimes at prices which vary greatly, even as between similar sizes. This builder builds production models from about 33’ up to about 70’ with larger vessels currently being custom.

  • 2005 54’ at $575,000
  • 2007 55’Classic at $580,000
  • 2003 51’at $540,000
  • A virtually new 2019 46’ Classic is available and could possibly be purchased for about $995,000

Image 0983:

For those of you who appreciate a little Italian flair with your traditional "down east" vessel there is this very stylish option, Rivolta. This line of vessels is designed and built in Sarasota, FL by a family with old country origins. With a deep history in sailing, racing power boats and entrepreneurship, the company principals have developed their range of power yachts with a distinctly European flair.

The hull and superstructure retain the typical lines of their down east sisters but the finish and interior styling trend closer to what we see in many modern vessels from "on the continent." These boats as new are available in a range of sizes, all built with local quality construction, world class equipment and are powered with diesels engines of your choice. Interiors are, in keeping with the overall design approach, less "woody", more bright light/white color and more open feeling than some others of their hull style. These are yachts which are a step out in a slightly different direction, but not so far as to be beyond appeal to a typical "downeast" owner.

Two of their most popular vessels are the 44’ Coupe, a 2 cabin 2 head vessel with room and openness. Some were built with diesel- jet drives, an expansive open rear deck with opening transom and large swim platform. The 40’ Coupe, a 2 cabin 1 head vessel, twin diesel power, comes with all the basic accommodations you would expect from a yacht this size.

  • 2009 44’ Coupe with diesels - jet drives at $339,000
  • 2012 44’, straight shaft diesels, at $360,000
  • Several 2005 41’ Coupes at about $225,000

10 Wide-Body Yachts That are Changing the Face of Boat Design

For many yacht owners, the solution to finding more space aboard for friends and family is summed up by that immortal line by Chief Brody in Jaws : “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.”

Until now, bigger has typically meant longer. But that’s quickly changing as more and more builders are creating interior volume by going wider and taller. For disrupter builder Wally Yachts and its polarizing new Wallywhy 150—which refers to its internal volume rather than the boat’s length—the quirky design is said to deliver 50 percent more space than more traditional 78-footers.

Other builders like Princess have been in the game since 2021. Its X95 first appeared several years ago, effectively throwing down the gauntlet as a way forward for sub-100-foot yachts to supersize both interior and exterior volumes.

Since then, many other builders of small superyachts have jumped on board, with designs that typically have somewhat bloated profiles, far-forward main suites, and open transoms—features all designed to maximize space but minimize length.

Here are 10 new yachts 100 feet and under that are breaking the mold in an attempt to dominate the nautical space race.

wallywhy150

These 10 Pocket Superyachts Have Extraordinary Volumes Under 100 feet.

It’s no wonder that disrupter Italian builder Wally—now part of the Ferretti Group—calls its latest head-turner a “spaceship.” Claiming up to 50 percent more space than comparable 78-footers, the 150 (named after interior volume rather than length) has standout features like a main salon with over eight feet of headroom, and a beam of more than 22 feet. The pragmatic design includes a one-level main deck attached to an open rear cockpit that offers easy access to the water. Its most noteworthy feature is the rule-breaking, full-beam master suite tucked into the bow on the main deck. It has wraparound glass—stretching all the way around the bow—for panorama-like views from the main bedroom. Priced from about $6.7 million.

Lazzara UHV 87

best motor yacht under 1 million

Short for Ultra High Volume, this new Turkish-built pocket superyacht is a sistership to Lazzara’s UHV 100 and 125 models. The newest Lazzara boasts an impressive 2,153 square feet of interior space in its 87-foot length. Arguably, the boat is not pretty in a classic sense. The towering hull sides, blunt, plumb bow, and dark-tinted glass make it look more like a dinner cruiser than a mini-superyacht. But the interior space is astonishing, from the cavernous Sky Lounge, with its floor-to-ceiling windows, to the salon with a separate, chandelier-lit dining area and chef’s galley. With a fuel capacity of 3,000 gals, the twin 1,000 hp Volvo D13s deliver a top speed of 16 knots. The boat also has transatlantic range. Base price starts at about $10.9 million.

Sunseeker 100 Yacht

best motor yacht under 1 million

Movie nights under the stars should have a whole new appeal aboard UK builder Sunseeker’s brand-new 98-footer. Lie back on the yacht’s extra-wide foredeck sunpad and watch the latest blockbuster on a 140-inch screen with laser projection. Or, if you’re the lucky owner, stargaze from your private terrace tucked away in the bow, just steps from the full-beam main-deck master suite, with atrium-style glass sliding doors. One of the best innovations here is the wide, uninterrupted walkway around the entire top deck, which provides safe, easy access from the flybridge to the forward entertaining space. With its twin 2,600 hp V16 MTU diesels, top speed is an impressive 29 knots. Priced from about $10.5 million.

Azimut Grande 26M

best motor yacht under 1 million

For its brand-new Grande 26M compact superyacht, Italian builder Azimut has gone extra wide to create massive interior and exterior spaces. Spatial highlights include a full-width flybridge that’s almost 20 feet across and close to 40 feet long, and a foredeck entertaining area that seems more like an outdoor patio. The Alberto Mancini-styled go-fast cruiser is crammed with space-enhancing innovations, such as a teak-decked garage door that, at the touch of a button, hinges upwards to extend the rear cockpit by almost five feet. New ZF pod drives coupled to the yacht’s twin 1,650 hp MAN V12 diesels also save space. It is priced from about $6.2 million.

Princess X95

10 Wide-Body Yachts That are Changing the Face of Boat Design

As we said during our 2021 tour of Britain’s Princess Yachts’ tri-deck X95 “When it comes to the polarizing, head-spinning design, there are no half-measures, no in-betweens. You either love it. Or loathe it.” But what those eye-popping lines hide is perhaps the most spacious 95-foot luxury cruiser in the category. Reckoned to be some 40 percent roomier than cruisers with the same length, the X95 has stretch-out accommodations for up to 10 in five cabins and living spaces that rival most apartments. The flybridge covers almost the entire length of the yacht. The 100 is also fast, with twin 1,990 hp MAN V12s delivering a top speed of 23 knots. Prices start at about $12 million.

Extra X96 Triplex

best motor yacht under 1 million

This broad-beamed 96-footer is from the Italian builder Extra Yachts, which is part of the Palumbo Superyachts Group. While it’s called the Triplex, there are actually four levels if you include the cozy upper sundeck with its outdoor kitchen, dining area, and oversized sunpads. The exterior comes courtesy of Italian designer Francesco Guida, while interiors are by Milan-based Hot Labs. Both teams have made the most of the yacht’s class-leading 25-foot beam. Notable features include a vast full-beam master on the main level and an upper salon dedicated entirely to dining, with a table for 10, an open chef’s galley, and an adjoining outdoor bar. Twin Volvo IPS1350s deliver a 16.5-knot top speed. Priced from $12 million.

Sunreef 100

best motor yacht under 1 million

This Sunreef power catamaran’s beam spans a staggering 44 feet, offering the kind of interior and exterior spaces you only get with superyachts twice the length. Every element of the yacht is XXL-size—from the massive hydraulic swim platform to the full-width flybridge that covers almost 1,000 square feet. Down in the salon is a huge 11-seat U-shaped bar that would delight any mixologist. The five staterooms in the twin hulls have space for 10. A pair of 1,300 hp MAN V8 diesels delivers a six-knot top speed. It is priced from about $15.3 million.

Absolute Navetta 75

best motor yacht under 1 million

In Italian, the word “navetta” translates to “little ship.” Which is a perfect description for Absolute’s new 75-foot fast cruiser. It’s an evolution of the strong-selling Navetta 73 but with nearly two feet of extra length. The yacht’s expansive interior volumes will remain the same, with features like a forward master stateroom on its own level that has a private entrance steps away from the main salon. The salon features floor-to-ceiling glass, with full views of the water, courtesy of open bulwarks. Twin 1,000 hp Volvo IPS1350 diesels deliver a top speed of 25 knots. Pricing starts at about $4 million.

Arcadia A96

best motor yacht under 1 million

Cross a spacious Miami high-rise penthouse with a Canyon Ranch spa and the result could be this new 96-foot superyacht from Italian builder Arcadia. Boasting a remarkable 4,300 square feet of total living space, there’s room for 12 guests and five crew. And the living spaces even expand, courtesy of fold-down terraces in the main salon and on the rear deck. But the yacht’s focus on wellness and healthy living sets it apart. That expansive, teak-decked foredeck, spanning over 500 square feet, is perfect for yoga sessions or meditation, while the cockpit and beach club offer another 1,000 square feet of social space. For extra peace and quiet at anchor, solar panels can provide up to nine hours of generator-free power.

Numarine 26XP Fast

best motor yacht under 1 million

Think of it as offering pace, with space. Turkish yard Numarine has been building its bold 85-foot 26XP explorer style mini-superyacht since 2018, but later this year, it will launch the U.S.-focused 26XP Fast. Instead of slow-churning 435 hp diesels and nine-knot cruising, it’s bolting-in a pair of mighty 1,800 hp MAN V12s and modifying the hull to deliver a top speed of 31 knots. What hasn’t changed is the XP’s cavernous interior and expensive deck space. Take the top-deck flybridge which, thanks to the yacht’s 21-foot beam and far-forward helm, spans over 700 square feet. That space will include a dining table for eight, a full outdoor kitchen, and more lounges than a Saint-Tropez beach bar. Prices start from $6.95 million.

Best luxury yacht: 7 ultimate luxury cruisers you can buy

  • Toby Hodges
  • March 14, 2024

Toby Hodges takes a look at all the nominees and the winner of the best luxury yacht category in the European Yacht of the Year Awards

The definition of the best luxury yacht will differ according to personal opinion and from boat to boat. This year’s nominees in the luxury yacht category of the European Yacht of the Year Awards proved that perfectly.

The European Yacht of the Year awards are selected by a broad panel of expert judges from across the globe. These are people who spend their professional lives sailing and comparing yachts, so you can be certain that the yachts which stand out in this field are truly the best of the best on the market.

The best luxury yachts

Best luxury yacht winner 2024 – arcona 50.

When you enter the fiercely competitive 50ft luxury performance yacht market you better get it right. And the jury felt Arcona managed that. This watershed design for the traditional Swedish brand, by X-Yachts co-founder and former designer Niels Jeppesen, is a big, contemporary new Arcona, one that sees it move away from its cruiser-racer heritage and classic interiors.

The on trend styling inside and out is backed up by a premium level of build and finish quality and sailing performance – particularly if you have the performance sails, traveller and deep (2.95m) keel options the test boat carried, although the latter does limit your berthing and anchoring options.

While I doubt it’ll be raced or will suit typical bluewater use, it offers a purity of performance push-button sailing: a handsome prospect upwind in a light breeze, it transforms into a powerful reaching machine with stacks of control.

As chairman of our jury, Jochen Rieker, puts it: “The boat certainly did not win for her somewhat borrowed looks. She wins by checking all the boxes in all other respects. Slipping along gracefully in the lightest of airs, holding her stride and her balance in more demanding conditions, offering warmth, light and this reassuring feeling of utter quality down below – there simply isn’t anything to fault.”

Contest 50CS

The Contest 50CS, for example, is an archetype luxury cruising yacht, one built to the highest standards and that could take you to most waters in impeccable comfort. This model is, uniquely, available in two versions: this more conventional 50CS with aft master cabin, or the forward owner’s suite version on the aft cockpit Contest 49CS . We ran a full test on the latter after spending two days aboard in the North Sea, where that noticeably high freeboard, which may not aid boarding nor windage, helped keep us dry on deck in a steady Force 6 gusting 7.

As the 50CS proved, this Judel/Vrolijk design keeps slipping along in the light stuff too, providing enjoyable sailing in 6 knots breeze under a code sail. The centre cockpit offers a deep protected guest area, but also links well to the spacious aft deck.

And the Wetzels-Brown-designed interiors of Contests today are stunning and hard to match. The engineering, access to usable stowage, details and finish on the 50CS is first class and to get this level of quality at this size is special.

Both Contest and X-Yachts are early adopters of hybrid power, offering their bluewater cruisers with optional electric drives. For the XC 47 this was designed-in from the start to offer Oceanvolt’s award-winning new 25kW regenerative drive.

The XC 47 is another wonderfully engineered and thought out yacht for distance cruising, in particular for those who also enjoy hands-on helming pleasure. That should come as no surprise to any X aficionados, but what really struck me most about this yacht was the stowage, and the forethought needed to create that, together with how practical it has been made.

That may sound slightly anticlimactic but ask any long-term cruiser and stowage is always a priority. On deck, this constitutes a huge lazarette and sail locker, plus clever systems for launching a dinghy via davits and a liferaft canister, while below decks every square inch of space has been used effectively, with lockers hinged with gas struts.

It’s clear the Danish yard went to considerable time and effort, even building a full mock up of the interior that could be canted 20° each way.

If the deck saloon style looks didn’t sell this model to all – this is the first full non-Jeppesen designed X – the jury were converted once they’d taken the helm. ‘Quirky’ became ‘muscular and bold’. The ease with which it can be sailed from the cockpit was also appreciated.

While I understand many offshore cruisers like a protected centre cockpit and more sun protection, the attention to detail, stowage and practicalities, combined with the direct steering, motion and enjoyable sailing this X offers make it a standout new offering.

Jeanneau Yachts 55

Meanwhile the Jeanneau Yachts 55 stands out for different, unique reasons in this category, offering a completely new concept in comfort on deck while at anchor and a novel accommodation layout. Its focus is on outdoor living space.

What helps place this in a luxury bracket is not simply the price or the creative input of superyacht specialist design duo Philppe Briand and Andrew Winch, rather that its layout creates a palatial amount of private space for the owner’s suite. Guest cabins have their own direct access from the extensive cockpit via gullwing doors.

It certainly makes sense for solo owners or couples using it as a warm water apartment. How many people this will suit is another question, as it segregates any guests, crew or children from the galley and saloon.

I used the term monocat when I first viewed it, as the 55 really does attempt to mix the two worlds, particularly in terms of providing owner privacy and lounging space. Choose the rigid hard top and windshield and there’s a vast amount of covered area including a dinette and chart table – plus a bimini can shade all that extensive aft deck too.

The penalty comes in additional weight and wetted surface, and is felt in the handling and performance, the latter particularly in lighter breeze with the optional in-mast furling, self tacking headsail and shallow draught package we had. However, it’s set up to be easily managed from the mid cockpit with good visibility from the twin helms and easy circulation thanks to the ramped side decks. Full report in YW February 2024.

Best luxury yacht 2023

Best luxury yacht winner – oyster 495.

It is hard to imagine that the decor of a yacht can change its look and feel quite this much, yet the layout of this second 495, Eddie Jordan’s dramatic looking Tuga , is in fact identical to the first boat that I spent several days aboard last summer.

At its heart is a wonderfully (Humphreys) designed and engineered luxury bluewater cruiser conceived from the ground up, built in a new dedicated facility to a repeatable quality very few yards are capable of.

The 495 offers consistent passage making speeds in real voluminous comfort – whether enjoyed from the deep cockpit or the best-in-class aft cabin. Deck stowage and mechanical space is also superb.

Then factor in the family appeal of Oyster’s after sales and world rally programme and you start to appreciate the premium world this sub 50-footer gives access to.

The first yacht fully conceived under CEO Richard Hadida’s reign, this is also the smallest completely new Oyster 495 since 2005 – and it’s a triumph. It was our September 2022 cover star in which we featured the full review from our Oyster 495 three day test .

Beneteau Oceanis Yacht 60

The Oceanis Yacht 60 is a very different beast indeed to the 62 it replaces as flagship for the Beneteau range. The yard has learned plenty from the success of the First 53/OY 54 and wanted to create a 60 in this style and with the same deck layout (albeit larger and wider) and ease of circulation.

The construction experience of the smaller model clearly helped too, as this is a whopping five tonnes lighter than the bulky OY62 and with a deeper (2.6m) keel. The telling result is on the water. It feels sporty to helm and we averaged a knot slower than the single figure 6-8 knot windspeeds upwind and matched them reaching with Code 0 and a slight swell.

The vast cockpit works well, sheltered below the semi rigid bimini, it has plentiful lounging space with sailing systems led aft to the twin helms. The interior sees a 3+3 layout, where Beneteau wanted to get rid of the corridor effect of the OY62. The galley is forward to help open out space, while the forward suite with offset berth and headboard aft works well to give space with privacy.

This is an attractive, voluminous yacht that leaves a good overall impression whether under sail, on or below decks.

Ice 62 Targa

It all looks pretty funky below decks on the Ice 62 Targa too, especially if you’re watching the masthead fore and aft cameras (plus bow and prop cam) on central displays mounted in the saloon while you slip out of the dock! The Ice is a seriously impressive, contemporary yacht, one that in looks, performance and execution, won over many of the judges.

The first to launch is a highly customised project for a passionate sailing owner who covers long distances solo – he’d already sailed it 3,000 miles around the Med that autumn. It’s impressively stiff, sails handsomely and, thanks to a telescopic keel, points well. We matched single figure windspeeds, and clocked up to the high 9s in 12 knots wind.

Umberto Felci’s team spent 4,000 hours on the design, providing lots of space and light to the interior and a chillout zone in the semi raised saloon. This was easily the coolest looking yacht, with its aggressive reverse bow, chamfered gunwales and carbon T-top bimini, and all engineered and built to a high standard.

The Power Catamaran Compilation

  • By Yachting Staff
  • Updated: December 21, 2018

Power Catamarans have been growing leaps and bounds in popularity, and, in lengths and widths. And for good reason. These cruise-centric yachts offer homelike livability for avid travelers, are fuel efficient and are fairly intuitive to run. Power cats are popular in the bareboat charter market too, for these very reasons.

Here, we take a look at 12 catamarans ranging from a cruising-couple-size 36-footer to a 78-footer for friends, family and some more friends. And there are myriad power options: outboards, diesel inboards, hybrid or even all-solar power.

Fountaine Pajot MY44

fountain pajot my44

The Fountaine Pajot MY44 , a creation of Italian architect Pierangelo Andreani and French designer Daniel Andrieu, has a main deck that’s open from the aft-deck seating all the way forward to the starboard helm station. The sense of spaciousness is significant, for several reasons. First, four glass panels aft can all slide to port, creating an indoor-outdoor space with the aft deck and salon. In the salon, 32-inch-high windows extend for 12 feet down the sides of the yacht, with three sections per side, bringing in natural light along with the three forward panes that comprise the windshield. Finally, 6-foot-6-inch headroom provides vertical clearance, with a 21-foot-7-inch beam that adds interior roominess while keeping the yacht stable.

Silent-Yachts 55

The ideas about which solar panels, electric motors, inverters and the like to use — and more importantly, Michael Köhler says, how to configure them — became the basis for the brand Silent-Yachts. The company offers 55-, 64- and 79-foot catamarans that run on solar-electric propulsion. The Silent 55 premiered this fall, and the 64 is sold out for the next two years, Köhler says.

Horizon PC74

Horizon PC74

As founder and director of The Powercat Company, a Horizon Power Catamarans distributor, Stuart Hegerstrom had long believed that catamaran builders needed to design their yachts to more stylish standards.

“The boats were very boxy,” he says, based on his years of experience with cats in the charter market. He and his partner, Richard Ford, asked Horizon to produce models that had high-end finishes and looked good inside and out.

The Horizon team brought in mega-yacht designer JC Espinosa to work with its own craftsmen. The result aboard the Horizon PC74 is a catamaran with exterior styling, layout and functionality that should appeal to private and charter owners alike.

aquila 36

The Aquila 36 is a departure from her sisterships in that she is an outboard-powered, express-cruiser-style catamaran, but she also adheres to MarineMax’s philosophies.

With a single main living level from bow to stern and a beam of 14 feet 7 inches, the Aquila 36 is like a bowrider on steroids. She has seating that can handle 20 adults for outings and barbecues, and there are two staterooms below, one in each hull, for family weekending. The staterooms have nearly queen-size berths, en suite heads, stowage and 6-foot-6-inch headroom.

Lagoon Seventy 8 Powercat

Lagoon Seventy 8

Lagoon is a division of Groupe Beneteau, the world’s largest builder of sailing yachts, and the Lagoon Seventy 8 Powercat is a developmental sistership of its Seventy 7 super sailing cat. The Seventy series yachts are built at Construction Navale Bordeaux in France, which had to add a new yard to construct these catamarans because they require separate stern molds for the power and sail versions.

Horizon PC60

horizon pc60

To understand the Horizon PC60 power catamaran , you need to put aside preconceived notions about midsize yacht amenities. For example, main-deck master suites are the province of yachts over 100 feet length overall. Incorrect. This 60-footer has an elegant and spacious owner’s stateroom on the same level as the salon. If you want a 14-foot center console tender on a 60-foot yacht, you have to tow it. Wrong again. On the PC60, you hoist it onto the upper deck, no problem.

Lagoon 630 Motor Yacht

Lagoon 630 motoryacht

Fitted with the optional twin 300-horsepower Volvo Penta D4 diesels, the Lagoon 630 MY burns only 1.64 gph total at 6 knots, giving a theoretical range of 2,952 nautical miles with standard tankage of 793 gallons. Hull No. 1 had an optional 502-gallon tank, giving it transatlantic range.

Luxury, stability and economy are all hallmarks of Lagoon’s return to luxury motor yachts. If you can take a ride, it will be worth your time.

Fountaine Pajot MY 37

Fountaine Pajot MY 37

The Fountaine Pajot MY 37 easily accommodates the seafaring family with three- and four-stateroom options. In the three-cabin version, called Maestro, you’ll find an owner’s suite in the portside hull with a queen-size berth and en suite head. Two double-berth cabins and one more head are available for the kids. If your brood is bigger, the Quator setup features four double cabins with two heads.

The 37 is a traveler and can be powered with twin 150 hp or 220 hp Volvo Penta diesels. Top speed with the smaller engines is 17 knots, while it’s 20 knots with the bigger power plants. Interestingly, at 7 knots, the fuel consumption is the same, with either set of motors offering voyagers a 1 ,000-nm range.

Solarwave 64

Solarwave 64

Many yachts boast eco chops because they have a handful of solar panels that power the microwave or navigation lights. The Solarwave 64 , launched last summer, has the potential to run on sunshine alone. The vessel’s 42 solar panels generate 15 kW that are stored in batteries weighing about 1,300 pounds. They connect to electric motors.

Glider SS18

SS18, Glider Yachts

This British builder says it strives for design innovation and the Glider SS18 displays that DNA, the result of 8 years of research and development. She has a head-turning, catamaran hull form constructed from aluminum and composite materials. She is 60 feet LOA with a 17-foot beam, and has a relatively shallow 1-foot draft. Powered by quad Yamaha 300 hp outboards, she can reportedly reach 50 knots, and with her Stability Control System (SCS), should give a smooth ride while doing it.

TOP 5 Best Motor Yachts Catamaran under 1 Million Euro in 2024

In this article we will tell you which 5 motor catamarans under €1.000.000 are worth purchasing and why. Comparisons, pictures, benefits, disadvantages and also our own opinion - coming from yachtsmen who have experience of managing dozens of different boats already.

  • FOUNTAINE PAJOT MY4.S
  • FOUNTAINE PAJOT MY5
  • AVENTURA 50 MY

Until quite recently, motor catamarans were quite rare in marinas, but every year their amount is steadily growing. The reason is obvious - a motor cat provides an incomparably larger usable deck area than a monohull yacht of the same length, and, moreover, it is distinguished by enviable wave stability.

Pleasure catamarans are an excellent choice for those people who prefer easy and familiar voyages rather than the sailing romance. Economical and incredibly roomy motor twin hulls are suitable not only for short vacations for a large group of friends, but also for long trips around the world.

Despite the relatively high cost of managing such vessels, their advantages in terms of seaworthiness and life on board ensured a wide variety of these boats. Recreational catamarans range from 4.5 m with outboard motors to hundreds of meters, and in many areas of chartering business there is simply no alternative to this type of boat. In our review, we will consider the most popular models of these double-hull vessels in the price segment up to a million euros.

Fountaine Pajot MY4.S

  • Brand: Fountain Pajot
  • Hull type: catamaran
  • Overall length, m: 11
  • Width, m: 5.1
  • Draft, m: 0.8
  • Displacement, t: 13.5
  • Water tanks, l: 350
  • Exterior design (Architect): Daniel Andrieu
  • Interior Design: Pierangelo Andreani Studio
  • Engine: YANMAR 2x150 hp
  • Optional engine: YANMAR 2x250 hp
  • Fuel tanks l: 2x600

Launched in 2021 by Fountaine Pajot , the MY4.S is the smallest and most affordable motor yacht in the brand's range. It is a deep revision of the previous model MY 37, taking into account the preferences of customers and the demand in the market for multihulls of this type. The yacht is 11 meters or 36 feet long with a draft of 0.8 meters, the hull is made of fiberglass and has a more elegant design with soft lines.

TOP 5 Best Motor Yachts Catamaran under 1 million euro in 2023

The boat was developed and designed by renowned architect Daniel Andrieu in many ways as a yacht for family cruising and long-distance travel. Although the vessel is small in size, its warehousing capacity and 1200-liter fuel tanks guarantee a cruising range of 800-1000 km at 8-15 knots.

The catamaran has better stability than monohull boats, and the Fountaine Pajot MY4.S is capable of speeds up to 22 knots thanks to two Yanmar engines with a capacity of 150 hp each. A seaworthy, inexpensive yacht that handles waves well and has a wide range of options, such as installing thrusters or increasing engine power to 250 hp aroused great interest among buyers. No wonder, because the upper deck with a sunbathing area, extended cockpit and overall space on board the MY4.S dispelled all prejudices about motor yachts of this size.

Fountaine Pajot MY4S

The company's architects abandoned the flybridge, which was present in the MY 37 model, because it is a controversial pleasure in autonomous navigation on a 11-meter boat, and instead the yacht received a sportier look, significantly improved sailing characteristics, acquired the ability to freely pass under bridges and freed up more space at the cockpit since there’s no need for stairs anymore.

A fixed bathing platform is installed at the stern of the yacht, standing on which, you can immediately take a shower after climbing out of the water and use it as a place to store an inflatable dinghy during a cruise. Optionally, it is possible to replace this platform with a hydraulic one with a control panel or attach davits instead.

Fountaine Pajot MY4S

In the cockpit there is a large U-shaped sofa almost the entire width of the platform: you can lower the back on it and get a comfortable bed or a spot from which you can fish. There is obviously more space here due to the lack of steps and a table that is hidden in one of the forward lockers and can be installed when necessary. There is a grill next to the seats, but for some reason the back of the sofa is not protected from it in any way, and for sure it will quickly become covered with greasy stains if it is not somehow protected. The overall finish is made of teak wood in light beige tones.

Fountaine Pajot MY4S

On the foredeck there is another social area for relaxing and sunbathing, which, if necessary, can be protected by a hinged canopy. The loungers have lifting backs and a convenient tray with cup holders. There is a large locker under the central mattress. It's really huge: it can easily fit a dining table, a water tank, an anchor chain, and there is still a lot of space left. At the same time, two more deep boxes for fenders and other stuff are placed at the bow parts of the floats. I can’t even believe that all this fits on an 11-meter boat - the designers really took care about optimization.

Fountaine Pajot MY4S

The interior of the ship contains a control panel with a steering wheel, more reminiscent of a car steering wheel, and a dashboard with all the necessary electronics, a kitchen and a recreation area with a folding table. A large sliding door allows you to combine the cockpit and saloon into a single space and get a lot of space for a pleasant pastime. Only the upper drawers can be used in the kitchen, because the lower part is fake - that space serves to increase the height of the ceilings in the cabins.

Fountaine Pajot MY4S

By default, the buyer is offered a layout with three cabins. On the right hull are two double rooms and a bathroom, while a large master suite and a private bathroom are on the left. An alternative is the charter option with four double cabins and two bathrooms.

Fountaine Pajot MY4S

Thanks to Fountaine Pajot's design solutions, we got very high ceilings in the bedrooms, a lot of light, wide large beds and two comfortable showers.

In conclusion, the MY4.S is a boat for a couple, a family or a group of buddies who do not want to lag at trawler speeds, but at the same time get comfort and long autonom at a small price.

Fountaine Pajot MY5

  • Brand: Fountaine Pajot
  • Hull type: Catamaran
  • Overall length, m: 12.9
  • Width, m: 6
  • Draft, m: 11
  • Displacement, t: 15.5
  • Water tanks, l: 450
  • Interior design: Pierangelo Andreani Studio
  • CE Certification: A
  • Engine, hp: 2 x 256
  • Option engine, hp: 2 x 364
  • Fuel tanks, l: 2 x 700

The Fountaine Pajot MY5 model was introduced in 2019 and became a continuation of the previous boats in the series of motor cruising catamarans from the famous shipyard. The 13-meter multihull, like many other models in the line, has got a roomy flybridge, a well-thought-out layout, Volvo engines and incredible stability on the wave.

Fountaine Pajot MY5

The yacht has a fiberglass hull and is CE (A) certified. The well-known naval architect Daniel Andrieu and designers from Pierangeli Andreani Studio took part in the implementation of the project. Fountaine Pajot then responsibly approached the development of the market segment and developed new hulls specifically for motor catamarans, unlike many other shipyards, in which motor cruisers were practically a copy of a sail-motor mix, only without a mast.

Fountaine Pajot MY5

The boat has two helms, one of which is located on the flybridge, and the other is in the saloon of the catamaran. Both of these places provide an excellent view of the bow floats and anchor winch even in a sitting position and a total visual control area of almost 360 degrees. This greatly facilitates the maneuvering and control of the position of the yacht when mooring.

In the cabin, when monitoring the situation at the right aft float, the refrigerator interferes a little, and just turning around is not enough - you either have to watch the float through a surveillance camera, or look out the window.

Fountaine Pajot MY5

The flybridge is large, as much as 17 m² and is separated from the deck by a wide large hatch, has a small galley with a cocktail bar and refrigerator, a helm station and a lounge area with a fixed table, sofa and couches.

Fountaine Pajot MY5

In the cockpit we are greeted by a long sofa with storage space under the seats and a wide comfortable staircase with reliable handrails leading to the flybridge. Also, at the stern there is a large bathing platform for all six meters of the width of the catamaran. If desired, it can be replaced with an electric platform that can go under water for two feet, which is convenient for diving. The aft deck can be shaded from the sun by a drop-down side panel, and there is plenty of room to accommodate a detachable dining table in charter version or when you want to grab a family breakfast in the cockpit.

A wide passage leads from the stern to the foredeck, and the rails around the perimeter of the vessel are made of durable stainless-steel pipe, which adds a sense of security. In the bow there is another social area with sun loungers and spacious lockers.

Fountaine Pajot MY5

There are panoramic windows all around the cabin, and they are not flooded with splashes of water even at high speed, which was made possible thanks to the design of the floats and draft - nothing will stop you from enjoying the view.

The galley is located just off the wide sliding door leading to the cockpit, providing walking distance from the fridge and stove to the dining area both in the saloon and on the aft deck. Plus, this arrangement provides additional ventilation and exhaust. The kitchen also has plenty of drawers, cupboards and the option of installing a dishwasher. On the left side of the saloon there is a spacious dining area with a folding table, if there is a need to place more people behind it. Under most of the seats are containers for storing things or equipment.

The guest float is occupied by two cabins: a spacious aft cabin and a narrower bow cabin, where in the owner’s version there’s a bunk bed and a side bench installed.

Fountaine Pajot MY5

The rooms have comfortable high ceilings, lots of natural light and air circulation. But for some reason there are few wardrobes and the like, and the saloon and deck are literally studded with lockers and convenient containers, but something prevented the designers from repeating this trick in the cabins.

Fountaine Pajot MY5

In the standard layout, the entire opposite starboard float is reserved for the owner and his spacious cabin with large Italian-style bathroom. A separate staircase leads to the room, on the side of which there is a control panel for ship electronics, in the room itself there is a huge bedroom with a transverse bed and couches on the sides, several tables and a large porthole opposite.

Fountaine Pajot MY5

In general, the boat is suitable for cruising and active pastime in a diverse number of recreation areas, in which guests can do many things without even crossing if they wish.

In 2021, the STGI Marine shipyard introduced a completely new concept motor catamaran - Aventura Power 14. The main task of Lasta Design Studio’s architects was to place 6 full-fledged double cabins with bathrooms on a catamaran of this size. This was necessary to bring this model to the yacht charter market. To do this, the designers had to move the ship's equipment under the central hull, slightly raising the deck.

Aventura 14

Thus, additional space was freed up in the hulls to accommodate cabins and reserve fuel tanks with a capacity of 3000 liters with the possibility of increasing the capacity by another 1000 liters. More powerful engines, enlarged storage lockers and water canisters, and large freezers made it possible to take on almost oceanic voyages and cruises even with a lot of passengers. And at the same time, the shipyard did not sacrifice the comfort inherent in the Aventura Catamarans brand.

In addition to the charter version, the catamaran can be made in the version “for the owner”. In this case, one building will be completely provided to the owner's apartment with a separate saloon, wardrobe and bathroom. There are many layout options, from three to six cabins to choose from.

The architect created a hull design that can reach a maximum speed of 22 knots when equipped with 2x400 hp engines and a cruising speed of 16 knots. At low speeds, the cruising range can be up to 1300 nautical miles. The design of the vessel also provides quick and convenient access to the engine, fuel compartment, anchor box.

Aventura 14

The flybridge on the Aventura 14 is a whopping 26 m², which includes a helm station, a lounge area with a large table, a small galley with a grill, a refrigerator and a sink.

Aventura 14

The width of the boat at 7.5 m made it possible to place a large boarding dining area on the cockpit with a table for 15 people, to install a locker-garage on the stern, where you can put bicycles, a compressor, and diving equipment. The rear hydraulic platform allows you to place several inflatable boats or jet skis on it.

A huge swing door leads from the aft deck to the saloon. The designers skillfully managed to summarize and create a large unified social space, which includes a bow sunbathing area, a large saloon and a roomy cockpit, all located on the same level without height differences and steps.

Aventura 14

The wardroom doubles as a control post, there is a large full-fledged kitchen with a gas stove, dishwasher, microwave and oven, a wine cabinet, a separate freezer and a huge 620-liter double-leaf refrigerator. Opposite the kitchen is a dining area with a large table that is electrically operated and can be lowered. Another door leads from the saloon to the bow deck. There are sun loungers and small tables, this place is intended primarily for sunbathing, relaxation and less active recreation.

Each of the standard guest cabins on the ship is 1.95 meters high and has its own bathroom with rain shower, toilet, mirror and sink. All double beds measure about 1.93 x 1.50 meters, in total we get a comfortable hotel room on the water in a regular cabin.

Aventura 14

But the master cabin is really something special, it can occupy one of the 14-meter floats entirely, where there is a huge double bed, and a long corridor, equipped with furniture and wardrobes. The owner has a separate workplace and dressing table, a large bathroom and much more.

Aventura 14

The Aventura 14 is a standalone development, not a sailboat without a mast. The yacht is suitable for owners with high requirements for living space, as well as for charter companies. Due to its good seaworthiness and large tank capacity, the vessel is ideal for long-distance voyages and holidays with a large group of friends.

  • Brand: LEEN-TRIMARANS
  • Hull type: Trimaran
  • Overall length, m: 15.24
  • Width, m: 8.5
  • Draft, m: 1.15
  • Displacement, t: 23
  • Exterior design (Architect): Bernard Nivelt
  • Interior design: Pierre Frutschi
  • CE Certification: Category A

  • Option engines, hp: 2 x 150
  • Fuel tanks, l: 3500

The Leen 50 was announced by Leen Trimarans in 2022. This is a motorized trimaran with a fiberglass hull and CE (A) seaworthiness certification. The company plans to release the first models at the end of 2023. The shipyard plans to add this boat to its lineup, which already includes the Leen 56 , released last year, and the new flagship Leen 72 - the company has already built a production line in La Rochelle for 50 such vessels.

Leen 50

The length of the yacht will be 15.24 meters or 50 feet, it will be almost 8 meters wide. The volume of fuel tanks in total will allow you to have a stock of 3500 liters of diesel. The company is presenting the model as a trimaran trawler for the high seas, the boat will have a huge cruising range of 1,500 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 9-10 knots. At the same time, the boat is expected to be very economical for its dimensions, consuming about 2 liters of diesel per nautical mile. This is largely facilitated by narrow thin hulls, which have very low hydrodynamic resistance and significantly help to reduce fuel consumption.

Leen 50

The maximum speed will be 14 knots, and the power of the installed engines, one for each side hull, will vary from two sets of 110 hp to a pair of 150 hp each, with a hybrid engine option available as an option.

The control room, galley, saloon, owner's cabin and dining room are located on the same level and in a single social space.

Leen 50

In the saloon, the table can be set to a high position for dining with seats for 8 people and a low position to create a living room feel. A comfortable triple seat is installed at the control post opposite the navigational instruments. There are 2 ways to get to the outer deck - either through the passage in the saloon, or through the side door in the skipper's cabin. Interior decor includes luxurious leather upholstery, high-quality wood joinery, Bolon flooring and Corian hard surfaces.

Leen 50

Access to the owner's cabin, which occupies the starboard side of the main deck, is located behind the helm. The cabin has an aft-facing king-size bed, mirrored wardrobes and a bathroom with twin sinks, shower and separate toilet. There is also another door that allows you to go outside on the starboard side.

Leen 50

The center float has two guest cabins with a shared bathroom. The forward guest cabin can be equipped with either one double bed or two single bunk beds.

There is ample storage space inside and out, which means you can carry everything you need for a pleasant stay on board and long-distance cruises. The forepeaks of the boat can be accessed from the main deck and can be converted into two additional and rather cramped single cabins or used as a place to store supplies or inventory.

The flybridge has a large sun terrace and can be additionally equipped with solar panels. The designers were able to achieve pleasant handling of the boat and the absence of the pitching effect due to the fact that all living and working premises and the onboard weight are concentrated in the main float.

Leen 50

The boat is positioned by the company as a trimaran for unhurried autonomous long-distance cruises, long voyages along the coast, frequent stops on the journey, contemplation and relaxation.

Fountaine Pajot MY6

  • Overall length, m: 14
  • Width, m: 6.6
  • Draft, m: 1.1
  • Displacement, t: 16.3
  • Air draft, m: 4.25
  • Water tanks, l: 2 x 350
  • Exterior design (Architect): Andrieu Yacht Design
  • Interior design: Andreani Design
  • Engines: IPS 500 Volvo 2 x 380
  • Option engines: IPS 650 Volvo 2 x 480
  • Fuel tanks l: 2 x 1000

Motor cruising catamaran Fountaine Pajot MY6 became one of the most anticipated premieres at the exhibition in Düsseldorf a few years ago. The French shipyard entrusted the development and design of the boat to its longtime partners Daniel Andrieu and Pierangelo Andreani Studio. The result is a moderately sporty multihull with smooth outlines.

Fountaine Pajot MY6

Comfortable yacht received international recognition immediately after the creation, getting “Best Passagemaker” and "Best Multihull Power Yacht" awards. In 2018, at the boat show in Düsseldorf, this model was recognized as the “European Motor Yacht of the Year”.

The catamaran is designed for access to the open ocean, and one of its main features is seaworthiness. The boat with a fuel reserve of 2000 liters is capable of traveling about 2000 nautical miles at a cruising speed. On it you can safely go on long trips.

Fountaine Pajot MY6

Even at a top speed of 25 knots, the Fountaine Pajot MY6 handles gracefully and confidently while being very responsive to weighted helm. On calm water, the turns are as smooth and unruffled as you'd expect, but the catamaran rides like it's on rails instead of on the water, which is a delight. The natural stability of the MY 6 is much higher than other catamarans, not to mention monohulls, even when stabilizers are used.

The interior and finish are clean, modern and more importantly practical. The saloon has a galley and dining area, and the deck inside the saloon is made of teak wood. This means that after swimming, passengers can have a drink from the refrigerator or use the sink and not have to worry about the surface getting wet.

Fountaine Pajot MY6

Overall, the galley is very practical - plenty of space, plenty of storage throughout, a full-size fridge and freezer, eye-level lockers. The saloon is equipped with sofas, which are located opposite each other, and a cozy chair, facing the stern, next to the inner helm station. The windows are tinted, including the windshield, for more privacy and to prevent ultraviolet rays from penetrating the cabin.

The width of the cockpit allows for a wide and safe spiral staircase to the flybridge. Railings and deep steps make it much easier for the crew to move between the two decks. The flybridge helm station is very comfortable, with a superb 22-inch Garmin MFD as an option, plus plenty of lounging upstairs.

Fountaine Pajot MY6

In general, there is a lot of space on the ship where you can relax in private or with friends. The yacht comes with a single layout option and is designed for three double cabins.

Cabins and separate guest bathrooms are located in the starboard hull, there is also a dedicated space for a washing machine and several hanging lockers. The forward guest cabin is typical for a catamaran, designed for two guests, with the option of splitting into two separate beds.

Fountaine Pajot MY6

A private bathroom is located next to the forward cabin, and guests do not have to share it, since the aft cabin is equipped with its own convenient bathroom. In addition, the aft cabin is a mini version of the master cabin.

Fountaine Pajot MY6

The owner's cabin is located separately, in another hull, and of course, its comfortable and large space is not even worth comparing with any monohull boat of this length. And the closer you get to the bow, the more and more impressive the cabin becomes. Natural light from the big window and space is evenly distributed around the bed. Toward the bow there is a spacious walk-in closet surrounded by hanging cabinets, and straight ahead you can find a spacious bathroom with a separate shower.

The MY6 is considered by many to be the finest power catamaran Fountaine Pajot has ever built and the best current cruising catamaran in its category.

And we, in particular, consider it to be a great model to be the king of this top 5. Do you agree with our picks? Leave your comment below and tell us what you think!
