SpotHero is a parking reservation service. We partner with different facilities nationwide to provide you with tons of parking options and premium rates.
While SpotHero does not own or operate any of these locations, we do work very closely with the operators we partner with to ensure you have a seamless parking experience every time you park!
Do I have to enter and exit at exactly the time listed on my reservation?
Similar to how a hotel reservation works, you can enter at any time after the start time listed on your SpotHero reservation, and you can depart at any time prior to the end time listed on your reservation.
For example, if your reservation goes from 8 am to 8 pm, you can enter any time after 8 am, and must leave anytime before 8 pm. Please be aware that any time spent parked outside of your reservation is subject to a ticket, tow, or an additional charge (at the drive-up rate) from the parking facility.

The Columbia Yacht Club was established in 1892 and has been based on the former ice-cutting Canadian ferry the MV Abegweit since 1983. I have visited this spot several times over the years since it has been freely accessible as an Open House Chicago venue (usually access is for Members Only). Poke around all the old ferry's interiors, some spaces are tight while others are a bit fancier. Enjoy the lovely views of Chicago from one of the decks.

Perfect location with an amazing view . We had a business lunch and the service and food was great . There's a huge cocktail menu and tons of things on the menu with options that are vegan , vegetarians and gluten free . We ate outside and then had a drink inside at the bar to cool down . Reminds me of an old school supper club .
View from lunch
One of my favorites in Chicago. My kids are members so it's an easy pace to visit for great service and excellent food. Sit outside on a warm night and enjoy the beautiful view. The bar is super fun on weekdays and they have a spectacular fireworks show on Saturday night. They have a broad menu that's sure to please everyone. They also have a beautiful tent for special events. Definitely try it!!

I was impressed with this place. Had a colleagues retirement party here. The staff was very professional, great with getting folks drinks and trays of food out. Even though the boat was docked it's a beautiful looking ship. The club chairs, wood, breezes off the lake.

I've been to Columbia Yacht Club many times for wedding, bday, date night and just get together with friends on random Tuesday night for $1 oysters stroll, I must say I've never been disappointed. Food here is average, atmosphere is above average and staff is just beyond words. We came with group of 20 for a private law school. Even though our event ended at 8pm staff was so friendly they kept the room open another two hours and didn't try to kick us out. They gave us boxes for take home on a catering event, allowed us to grab extra beer and wine before closing. We than moved the party from private room to main bar area which was just as fun and friendly. I think membership is definitely worth it if you're into boating and enjoy being in the water. I come for the ambiance, it's unbeatable.... someday I'll join as member till than thanks to all my awesome friends for the invite!
Fantastic food and everyone that works at the club make you feel like family. Best dining and social experience in Chicago.
We both had the deconstructed Paella. Don't get the deconstructed Paella it's not that good and borders on tasteless. Coincidentally, two weeks before this visit we were at a party where the hostess served Paella. Her dish was outstanding. The on-site sommelier is awesome! Make sure to ask for his assistance when choosing a beverage. Service is second to none at this location.
What a fun place. A friend took me while I am on a work trip and it was the treat/highlight of the trip. The facility is so cool and has a very low-key vibe. The decks seem so inviting - what a place to watch the lake, sunset, boating, birds and fireworks in summer. (BEST view of the fireworks - was kind of magical.) Dinner in the bar was loud and boisterous in a very good way. The waitstaff is OUTSTANDING - super friendly and charming and helpful. Food was pretty good for a boat! If I lived here, I'd want to be a member... tomorrow.
The best view of the city, Amazing staff and good food. I wont lie and say it's cheap but you are never left unsatisfied regardless what ever you get on the menu. The Abegweit (the name of the ship) is beautiful and has so much history behind it, if you have some time I definitely recommend taking a walk on the upper deck and seeing the city.
This club has fantastic lake views, wonderful service, and it seems the staff always has the ability to tell the lake shore story of this legendary ship-turned-club. There are places that do, in fact, smell like a ship. It was a negative for my guests, but a positive for those wanting to enjoy the experience of being on an actual ship. The food was more innovative than expected, but I am more a sucker for great environment and service than food. I was not disappointed in the the least.

The Columbia Club
Adult Summer Sailing
Columbia Sailing School offers lessons for every age and ability level of sailor. Join us for a fun and educational experience in any of our popular classes, from our First Sail Experience to our Racing Courses. Our US Sailing Certified Instructors teach classes in both Dinghies and Keelboats. Whether you've never been on a boat before, want to brush up on your skills, or are interested in meeting new people in a fun and exciting sport, we have something for you!
Have you never been sailing and are not sure you’ll like it? Try one of our introductory courses!
Our First Sail experience is a 2-hour chance to get out on the water and feel the exhilaration of sailing.
Our Learn to Sail course is two sessions that will begin to develop a foundation of sailing skills.
Our Women on the Water course (W.O.W) is a two-session introductory course for the Ladies only!
Our 420 Dinghy Progression takes students down a dinghy-focused path. You will get wet!
Our Skipjacks course is the perfect course for sailors who are also potentially interested in Columbia Yacht Club membership. Set sail with club members on a diverse fleet of boats, and gain insight into the benefits of membership!
In all of these courses, you will learn the names of boat parts and their purposes, how to rig and de-rig a boat, points of sail, and basic boat handling.
For sailors seeking a more extensive or certification-based course, we offer the US Sailing Basic Keelboat Certification course . This 20-hour course is taught in our Colgate 26 keelboats, with a maximum of 4 students per instructor, and includes a comprehensive workbook. You will learn all aspects of sailing, docking, and how to captain a boat safely. Upon completing the course and a written test, students receive US Sailing Basic Keelboat Certification, which is accepted at many locations (including Columbia) to rent a boat without a captain.
The US Sailing Basic Keelboat Certification course is a prerequisite to participating in our RACING, RENTALS, OR CRUISING pathway courses.
For RACING -focused sailors, the Introduction to Racing course will leave you confident with spinnaker handling and ready for the Intermediate Racing course, where we will join in the Beer Can Racing Series.
For CRUISING -focused sailors, we offer a Basic Cruising course on the helm-steered Beneteau Oceanis 281. This comprehensive course imparts the essential seamanship skills for longer voyages and highlights the differences betwe en the Colgate 26 and the inboard diesel-powered Beneteau.
For RENTALS -focused sailors, we offer a Colgate 26 Seasons Pass . Take your family out for a sail, and showcase the sailing skills you learned in your previous courses!
Sailing is a lifelong sport, and the Columbia Sailing School gives students options once they have mastered the basics. We offer Clinics and Seminars on and off the water throughout the year and a chance to book one of our certified instructors for Private Lessons (contact [email protected]) . We see some of our most adventurous students buy sailboats and head cruising or join a charter/ boat-sharing program such as our own Season Pass program for graduates of Columbia Sailing School.
Adult Sailing FAQs
Q: What should I bring to sailing lessons?
A: Come prepared to be on the water, rain or shine (unless it is a thunderstorm). We recommend checking the weather before you leave for your lesson at Columbia Sailing School. Pack a life vest, water bottle, sunscreen, towel, hat, sunglasses, shoes that can get wet, and maybe a change of clothes.
Q: Do I need to buy my own life vest?
A: We have life jackets that you can borrow. However, if you want to purchase your own life jacket, it should be United States Coast Guard (USCG) approved, and we strongly recommend Type III PDFs.
Q: I’m not a strong swimmer; can I still sail?
A: Proficiency in swimming is not required for an enjoyable sailing experience. If you are concerned about your swimming ability, feel free to mention it to an instructor or email us at [email protected] .
Q: Where can I park at Columbia Sailing School?
A: We recommend parking in the DuSable Parking Lot , located under Lake Shore Drive adjacent to the Columbia Yacht Club Member parking lot. Since our Columbia Yacht Club parking lot is small, only members who have purchased a pass can park there, and unknown vehicles can be towed.
Q: What happens when the weather conditions are too bad to sail?
A: With safety as our number one priority, we are constantly alert about changing weather conditions, and we only take students out on the water if conditions are safe. We will have on-the-dock or classroom instruction if the weather prevents us from going onto the water.
Q: Do we have a class on July 4th?
A: We do not have class on July 4th when it falls on a weekday.
Q: Do I have to be a Columbia Yacht Club member to register for classes at the Columbia Sailing School?
A: No, Columbia Yacht Club Membership is not required to sign up for Columbia Sailing School courses as they are two separate organizations. Q: What is the Season Pass?
Our Season Pass Program is for COLYC Members or those who have taken the Basic Keelboat Certification Course through us. This program allows sailors to rent our Colgate 26's when they're not being used for classes. We recommend doing Tiller Time, before signing up for a Season Pass. If you are interested, please contact us at [email protected] .
Q: What if I cannot attend a Basic Keelboat session?
A: As we all have dynamic schedules, it is understandable that students may not be able to attend all sessions. For Basic Keelboat students who wish to make up for missed time on the water, we offer Tiller Time as well as Private Lessons .
Q: What if I must cancel?
A: Refunds will be issued minus the credit card processing fee. Students who cancel 21 days prior to the program start date will be eligible for a full refund (with the processing fee deducted). If cancellation occurs within 20 days of the start date, the student will receive a 50% refund (with the processing fee subtracted). No refunds will be provided for cancellations within 14 days of the program start date.
Q: Do I need to be a US Sailing Member to attend classes?
A: No. However if you register for the US Sailing Basic Keelboat course, you will receive a 1 year membership which can be renewed at the end of the year, should you wish your membership to stay active.
Q: Do I need to take the sailing courses in sequential order from First Sail, to Learn to Race?
A: While our courses have been designed to be taken sequentially, there is no compulsion to do so. Your choice of course should depend on your desired outcome. However, it is recommend you take the US Sailing Basic Keelboat Course before the Learn to Race course.

2024 COLORS Regatta
Saturday, June 1 & Sunday, June 2
SKYWAY YACHT WORKS
Colors regatta.
WHAT IS COLORS?
COLORS has been Chicago’s shake-the-sheets event since 1995. More than 100 boats race annually during the first weekend of June. The strong one-design presence of the Beneteau, J/Boat, Tartan-10 and other large fleets designates the event as a tune-up for the season.
In addition to a weekend of buoy racing, the regatta has a distance race on Saturday. The distance race is attracts the boats that are too large to go around the buoys as well as the more casual racers and even cruisers.
Racing is not the only factor that makes for a good regatta, though. The social side is equally as important, and Columbia is well-versed in having a good time. The big annual regatta party takes place on Saturday with tasty food, amazing libations and live band. Also enjoy a easy going Sunday wrap up party
