Outremer Specialties

Designed by Gérard Danson, the OUTREMER 38/43 is the 40/43’s sister ship. She differs from the 40/43 with a smaller beam: 6.20m instead of 6.80.

Outremer has always been about strong construction, quality, durability, simplicity and performance.

This boat was built in 1998 and the first owner had Outremer extended transom to 43 feet during the build which provides better sea keeping, higher speeds, more storage space and enabled the boat to be fitted with direct drive engines instead of Sail-Drives.

Accomodations

The accommodations are simple and functional.

The layout of this Outremer 38/43, is slightly different that the standard layout providing better connection and communication for the crew.

Port hull has aft head with shower, central double cabin and forward single cabin. Starboard hull has a Galley aft, double central cabin and forward single cabin.

Galley has Eno 2 burner Hob, Dometic Fridge with Freezer runs 12v, 220v and propane.

Bridge deck has dinette and sofa seating.

As is typical on all Outremers, there are spacious sail storage, and cockpit lockers.

This boat has a factory installed rotating carbon mast with:

Outremer catamarans are equipped with twin daggerboards which help them point to windward and when running, allows them to reduce their wetted surface and reach high speeds. Extremely strongly built, Outremer catamarans have been taken to high latitudes not often visited by cruising catamarans. Famous sailors and ex-racers have purchased Outremer catamarans and their followers hold these performance catamarans in very high regard.

Outremer 50 Standard (Florida)

S/V Cheval is a 1995 Outremer 50 Standard catamaran, for sale by owner. We purchased Cheval in January 2013. As the second owners we have continuously upgraded her including her most recent upgrade late 2023 through 2024 in preparation for a pacific passage. A change of plans creates a rare opportunity to acquire this Outremer 50 standard ready to cross an ocean.

As of this writing to the best of my knowledge she is the only Outremer 50 standard currently for sale in the world. Sometimes referred to as the Porsche of catamarans this boat has the speed you would expect while being large enough to provide comfortable accommodations.

As she is only cored in the decks with solid hulls the common occurrence of water found in the cored hull at survey will not be a problem.

Il catamarano è un'imbarcazione a vela multiscafo: è composto da due scafi paralleli, collegati tra loro da un corpo rigido. Gli scafi sono più sottili di quelli dei monoscafi, il che conferisce ai catamarani una velocità più elevata, grazie all'attrito ridotto con l'acqua. Prima di tutto, nonostante il suo assetto stabile, un catamarano tende al beccheggio, soprattutto in caso di maltempo. Inoltre, il costo di manutenzione è spesso più elevato, considerando la sua lunghezza, la sovrastruttura e i suoi due motori. Infine, date le sue grandi dimensioni, questo tipo di multiscafo avrà più difficoltà a entrare in un porto, il che a volte costringe a ormeggiare fuori dal porto (usando una boa) e a raggiungere il porto con un tender, sia che si tratti di un dinghy, di una barca, di un gommone a chiglia pneumatica o a chiglia rigida.

Quali sono i vantaggi e gli svantaggi di un catamarano?

Per ogni velista tentato dalla vela, il catamarano riserva molti vantaggi:

• Ha un assetto stabile, quindi la navigazione è più piacevole,
• è più veloce sottovento,
• possedendo due motori, risulta più manovrabile a motore, e ciò facilita l'ingresso nei porti,
• ha un pescaggio poco profondo, il che gli permette di navigare in acque poco profonde.
