The steel hull comprises 30,000 individual “cells” that would help keep Pangeos afloat. The tera-turtle can sail around the world nonstop sans emissions on account of a virtually endless supply of green energy. The vessel is covered in solar panels that generate clean power from the sun for the hotel load and propulsion system. Powered by nine electric motors of 16,800 hp each, Pangeos could cruise at a maximum speed of 5 knots. The “wings” could also draw more power from the waves and wind.

Onboard, Pangeos is a mix between a five-star resort, a cruise ship and a city. Lazzarini says she can accommodate as many as 60,000 guests via a combination of villas and apartments. Other highlights include a rooftop mall, sprawling gardens, several pools and a supersized beach club. Naturally, the yacht is fitted with helipads, hangars and marinas to store choppers, toys and tenders.

In terms of construction, Lazzarini specified “the terayacht needs a terashipyard.” Essentially, Pangeos is too big to be built at an existing yard and thus would need a custom facility. Saudi Arabia has been put forward as a potential location. The designers estimate the vessel could be delivered in eight years at a cost of $8 billion.

Luxury yacht Giga-Byte for sale at Reel Deal and Sunseeker Florida

The 32 metre motor yacht Giga-Byte is now jointly listed for sale with Marcos Morjain at Reel Deal Yachts and Sunseeker Florida.

Built in GRP by UK yard Sunseeker International , she was delivered in 2006 as a Sunseeker 105 model. A sleek interior in high gloss cherry wood accommodates eight guests in four staterooms. The VIP suite is on the main deck and has a mini-bar and a 37 inch flat screen television while the master suite is on the lower deck and comes with a 42 inch flat screen television, mini bar and is flooded with light courtesy of large vertical portholes. Also on the lower deck are identical port and starboard twin cabins, each with a 20 inch LCD television. All staterooms have en suite shower facilities.

The main deck saloon has aft sliding doors in stainless steel, comfortable seating, a granite-topped bar with two stools, a fridge, ice maker and a cocktail cabinet with glass stowage. Forward, the dining area has an extendable table with eight leather chairs.

Al fresco dining and entertaining is available on the aft deck with a table and settee for eight guests plus three director's chairs. There is more outdoor living up on the flybridge which has a spa tub, sun pads, a dining table with seating and a fully-fitted wet bar with a sink and a fridge

The design studio Lazzarini has unveiled plans to build a new $8bn terayacht shaped like a giant turtle .

The size of the new luxury boat is difficult to comprehend: it will be twice the size of the Roman Colosseum, a precocious 550 meters long and 610 meters wide. It is expected to cost $8bn to construct, and its price tag will likely put it beyond the purchasing power of all but roughly a thousand people on Earth.

Someone, or some company, will be buying plenty with their money. The ship will include numerous villas and apartments, shopping complexes, parks, hotels, and ports for private planes and smaller ships, according to reporting from MSN . The terayacht will be named Pangeos, after the supercontinent Pangea that broke up roughly 195 million years ago.

Per MSN , construction on the ship would begin in 2033 if the project is approved. He cites reports that designers have identified a location at King Abdulla Port north of the Saudi Arabian capital of Jeddah as the ideal location to build, though there remain several hurdles to clear there.

Despite the fact that only the wealthiest sliver of humanity will likely be able to enjoy the ship, should it ultimately be built, proponents of the project have set up a crowdfunding initiative to help finance construction.

The crowdfunding site tells visitors that “Pangeos is not existing (yet) but we can make it real.” People can purchase a virtual ticket for entrance to the boat or a range of NFTs. There is also the option to download a 3D representation of the space that a person virtually purchases.

“An ambitious project needs ambitious guests! We believe a virtual space is the first step into a real development of the project, for this reason an Unreal Engine METAVERSE is now under construction,” the page reads.

Yucatan, the iconic totem and selfie photograph destination on Fort Myers Beach in front of the Yucatan Beach Stand Bar & Grill, left Estero Island for San Carlos Island sometime during Hurricane Ian.

Propelled by the storm’s 155-mile-an-hour winds and at least an estimated 15 feet of storm surge, the wood-looking totem finally settled in front of the concrete block Diversified Yacht Services storage facility – on the other side of Matanzas Pass, at least 2,000 feet away. It was flanked by dozens of foam squares that were part of the Margaritaville Resort construction site. Those also traveled across the bay before coming to a rest.

“It’s well over $2 million worth of damage,” Cobert said. “We lost a lot of boats. We’ve only been here an hour and a half. It’s bad. It’s going to take a long time.”

About 25 yachts that were parked outside of the yacht garage were lost somewhere in Matanzas Bay, and about 10 to 15 more boats were newly on the property, having arrived there, uninvited, from the storm surge.

As they took in their first glimpses of the wreckage, Maggie Hagar and her two sons, T.J., 11, and Jackson, 8, were around the corner on the south side of the building. They were picking up new shoes of various sizes and other items. These used to be inside of a Times Square gift shop, one that Hurricane Ian destroyed and then sent the products off to destinations unknown as well as around the Diversified Yacht building.

“The kids can’t really do anything right now,” Hagar said. “So they’re gathering shoes, and then we’ll try to find matches for people who need them.”

Hagar’s family owns RAL Resort and Property Management, which oversees the Estero Island Beach Club, next door to Diamondhead. She said Ian destroyed about half of that resort.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office closed access to Estero Island, restricting it to residents and business owners only.

The Lee County government is encouraging citizens to stay off the roads as much as possible. Stranded residents on Fort Myers Beach are encouraged to walk to Publix or 7-Eleven stores on Estero Island. Urban search and rescue responders will be at those sites to assist in evacuation.

National, international and regional media organizations – and  Gulfshore Business  – were denied access to the island. Satellite trucks set up operations about half a mile north of the bridge, where there were plenty of signs of devastation to broadcast.

“It’s going to take years to come back from this,” Hagar said. “Years.”

Words made it difficult to describe the scope of the damage, Hagar said.

Ron Gardenhire, the former manager of the Minnesota Twins, evacuated his Fort Myers Beach home about 12 hours before Hurricane Ian arrived. He and his wife drove to Okeechobee, where they endured 60-mile-an-hour winds while in friend and former Twins assistant coach Steve Liddle’s RV.

“It was bad, but it was nothing like this,” Gardenhire said after returning home.

Gardenhire reported extensive damage to his home and vehicles upon returning. He said he was glad he didn’t have to witness the carnage.

Pincher’s crab shack, located about a half mile to the north, fared much better.

Henry Goldrick, the general manager at that Pincher’s, cleaned up some of the mess, which included a water and mud-caked floor, which is elevated about five feet above ground level – otherwise, it would have been far worse.

“Right now, we’re just trying to ride the wave in here,” Goldrick said. “If we can get a team in here fast enough, we could be one of the first ones to reopen.”

Terabytes, Gigabytes, and Petabytes: Which Is Bigger?

How many gigabytes (gb) in a terabyte (tb), how many megabytes (mb) in a gigabyte (gb), how big is a terabyte, how big is a petabyte, how big is an exabyte, how big is a gigabyte, the byte table.

Without a doubt, one of the more common technology-related questions we get asked about surround those data storage metrics, like terabytes , gigabytes , petabytes , megabytes , etc.

You've probably heard most of the terms before, but do you know what they mean? How many gigabytes are in a terabyte? What does one terabyte actually mean in the real world? These are all things you need to know before you buy a hard drive or memory card, choose a tablet based on the memory it has, etc.

Fortunately, as confusing as it all might seem at first glance, all of these units of measurement are easily convertible from one to another and are simple concepts to grasp thanks to the examples we've provided below.

Let's start with the basics.

Right away, knowing which is bigger and which is smaller, as well as the abbreviations that represent these numbers, is probably the most helpful thing to get down.

All of these computer technology storage units of measurement are based on the byte , which is the amount of storage required to store a single character of text:

• An exabyte (EB) is larger than a...
• petabyte (PB), which is larger than a...
• terabyte (TB), which is larger than a...
• gigabyte (GB), which is larger than a...
• megabyte (MB), which is larger than a...
• kilobyte (KB), which is larger than a...

Less helpful in the real world is the smaller bit (there are 8 bits in 1 byte) and the larger zettabyte and  yottabyte , among some others. We won't be sticking yottabyte size memory cards in our cameras anytime soon, so consider those some impressive words to throw around at your next party.

Bytes is the unit of measurement normally used when describing storage capacity, but there's also the bit which many internet service providers (ISPs) use to describe how fast data can be downloaded or uploaded. It's important to understand the  differences between bits and bytes  to avoid confusion.

To convert from one unit to another, just know that for every level you go up, you multiply by 1,024. Don't worry if that's confusing—you'll see enough examples below that you'll have the math down in no time. The table at the bottom of this article is helpful, too.

You'll see many sources online say that each new level is 1,000 times greater than the smaller, not 1,024. While true in some cases, in practical terms, considering how computers use storage devices, 1,024 is the more realistic multiplier to do your calculations with.

Now on to the most practical stuff...

There are 1,024 GB in 1 TB.

1 TB = 1,024 GB = 1,048,576 MB = 1,073,741,824 KB = 1,099,511,627,776 B

Put another way...

A TB is 1,024 times bigger than a GB. To convert TB to GB, just take the TB number and multiply by 1,024 to get the number of GBs. To convert GB to TB, just take the GB number and divide by 1,024.

There are 1,024 MB in 1 GB.

1 GB = 1,024 MB = 1,048,576 KB = 1,073,741,824 B

Like in the previous example, a GB is 1,024 times bigger than a MB. To convert GB to MB, take the GB number and multiply by 1,024 to get the number of MBs. To convert MB to GB, take the MB number and divide it by 1,024.

Megabytes and megabits are different units of measurement. 

The terabyte (TB) is the most common unit used to measure hard drive size and a number you might actually run into from time to time.

A single TB is a lot of space. It would take 728,177 floppy disks or 1,498 CD-ROM discs to store just 1 TB worth of information.

• As of 2020, most new, average priced computer hard drives are in the 1 to 5 TB range .
• Many ISPs cap monthly data usage at 1 TB .
• The Hubble Space Telescope generates about 10 TB of new data every year .
• Around 130,000 digital photos would require 1 TB of space...close to 400 photos every day for a year!
• IBM's famous Watson game-playing supercomputer has 16 TB of RAM .

As you saw in the GB to TB math above, 1 TB is equal to a little  more than one trillion bytes .

The petabyte (PB) is just a crazy large chunk of data but it actually comes up more and more these days.

To store a single PB would take over 745 million floppy disks or 1.5 million CD-ROM discs , clearly not an efficient way to collect a petabyte of information, but it's fun to think about!

• The movie Avatar needed about 1 PB of storage to render those graphics.
• It's estimated that the human brain can store around 2.5 PB of memory data .
• Over  3.4 years of 24/7 Full HD video recording  would be around 1 PB in size.
• As of late 2018, the Wayback Machine was storing over 25 PB of data !
• 1 PB is equivalent to over 4,000 digital photos per day , over your entire life.

A single PB is 1,024 TB...you know, that number we already established was enormous even at one! In yet a more impressive view, 1 PB is equal to over 1 quadrillion bytes !

Talking about even a single EB seems a bit crazy but there are situations where the world really does run into this level of data.

Yes, it's comical, but heading back to the previous comparisons: to get to just a single EB would take 763 billion floppy disks or 1.5 billion CD-ROM discs . Can you imagine?

Some more mind-bending thoughts around exabytes:

• Way back in 2010, the internet was already handling 21 EB per month , and nearly 6 times that amount (122 EB) just seven years later.
• Almost 11 million movies in 4K format would fit comfortably inside a 1 EB storage device.
• A single EB could hold the entire Library of Congress 3,000 times over .
• A single gram of DNA can hold 490 EB , at least in theory . That's over 5 billion  4K movies. Let that sink in for a minute.
• Users backing up their files to the Backblaze online backup service stored a combined 1 EB of data on over 100,000 hard drives as of early 2020 .

Now for the math: a single EB holds 1,024 PB or 1,048,576 TB. That's over 1 quintillion bytes ! We had to look up quintillion —yes, it's a number!

Talking about the GB is a bit more commonplace—we see GBs everywhere, from memory cards to movie downloads, smartphone data plans, and more.

A single GB is equivalent to  a little over 700 floppy disks  or just over a single CD .

A GB is not a small number by any means, but these days it's a level of data we use up quickly, sometimes several times over each day. It's a number we very much run up against on a regular basis.

• 1 GB can store  almost 300 songs  in  MP3  format.
• A single HD Netflix movie might gobble up over 4 GB as you watch. A 4K version might run over 20 GB !
• A DVD movie disc holds about 9.4 GB .
• Most smartphones store 64 GB or 128 GB of data (your apps, music downloads, etc.).
• Your smartphone data plan, which you use when you're away from your wireless network at home, might be capped at 5 GB, 10 GB, or a bit more per month.

Like we showed in the MB to GB conversion a few sections above, 1 GB is the same as over one billion bytes . That's no small number, but it's not nearly an impressive of an amount as it once was.

Here it all is together, which helps to illustrate just how big some of those big numbers get!

If you're curious what would come next in this table: 1024 yottabytes is equal to one brontobyte, and 1024 of those is called a geopbyte (the number 1 with 30 digits after it!).

Pangeos The Terayacht: World's Largest Floating City

Double the size of the Roman Colosseum, Pierpaolo Lazzarini returns with a new, monumental £6.8 billion terayacht concept. The turtle-shaped vessel known as 'Pangeos' is expected to be 550m long and 610m at its widest point. If achieved, this terayacht would become the largest floating structure ever built.

At its peak, Pangeos would be capable of hosting up to 60,000 guests; a floating city for ultra-high-net-worths.

Guests can unwind by staying in one of the many hotels, exploring its plethora of shopping centres, parks, beach clubs, resorts, as well as ship and aircraft ports, according to Italian design studio Lazzarini.

In recent years, Lazzarini has made a name for itself for conjuring up some of the industry's most daring, out-of-this-world concepts, including vessels that can fly, ginormous on-board garages and futuristic ships that push the boundaries of imagination.

They hope the ambitious scheme dating back to 2009 will soon become a reality following an NFT-related crowdfunding initiative to sell virtual spaces on the watercraft. If achieved, the project is said to take a jaw-dropping eight years to build.

Lazzarini have hinted that the vessel would have its very own shipyard built specifically for its creation, and would be launched out of Saudi Arabia.

" A Terayacht needs a Terashipyard ," the designers said. " The conception of a similar-sized vessel, involves the realisation of a specific shipyard/dam infrastructure that floods to levitate the terayacht when it will be launched."

" The imagined Terashipyard infrastructure is 650 metres wide and 600 metres long, providing direct access to the sea. "

With 30 metres of draft, the ship's enormous hull is made up of nine different bows and subdivided into several blocks. The structure also boasts a giant gate aft that allows vessels to enter this floating metropolis.

It would be powered by nine high-temperature superconductor (HTS) engines, each fully electric motor capable of a mind-blowing 16,800hp and powered by various onboard energy sources.

The design team also claim it would be able to use "wings" to cruise without expending too much energy, making this super-structure highly eco-conscious.

" Pushed from a jet drive transmission, the tera-structure will be able to cruise at a speed of five knots ," Lazzarini said.

" While sailing, the large wings will gain energy from the breaking of the waves and Pangeos will cruise perpetually without emissions around the planet Earth's seas.   Further, the rooftop area is lined with solar panels, which provide part of the necessary clean energy to power the terayacht ."

In terms of accommodation, guests will be able to stay in a wide variety of luxury residences, from apartments and houses to "super villas" and royal palaces.

" The virtual spaces of the watercraft can also be purchased under an NFT collection, and users will be able to collect certain content and access the virtual properties with their credentials ," Lazzarini said.

Similar credentials will also be used as a property deposit in case of real construction.

" The terayacht proposal takes its name from Pangea, the supercontinent that existed millions of years ago during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras ," Lazzarini adds.
