Basic specs..

The boat is typically equipped with a Universal Atomic 4 gasoline engine at 30.0 hp (22 kW), which gives a max speed about 5.4 knots.

Sailing characteristics

This section covers widely used rules of thumb to describe the sailing characteristics. Please note that even though the calculations are correct, the interpretation of the results might not be valid for extreme boats.

What is Theoretical Maximum Hull Speed?

The theoretical maximal speed of a displacement boat of this length is 6.8 knots. The term "Theoretical Maximum Hull Speed" is widely used even though a boat can sail faster. The term shall be interpreted as above the theoretical speed a great additional power is necessary for a small gain in speed.

Sailing statistics

This section is statistical comparison with similar boats of the same category. The basis of the following statistical computations is our unique database with more than 26,000 different boat types and 350,000 data points.

What is SA/D (Sail Area Displacement ratio)?

The SA/D for International 600 with ISO 8666 reference sail is 15.2, with a 135% genua the SA/D is 17.8.

Sorry, we do not have sufficient statistical information available for this boat to provide a significant reliable analysis.

RORC Caribbean 600 – An international affair

The 14th edition of the RORC Caribbean 600 starts on 20th February at 11:00 AST (UTC-4). Seventy boats from all over the world are ready in Antigua for the non-stop 600nm race around 11 Caribbean islands. With over 550 sailors from 30 nations taking part, the RORC Caribbean 600 is truly an international affair. On Monday 20th February, the first warning signal will sound at Fort Charlotte for an epic race featuring a highly competitive and varied fleet of IRC Offshore boats, Class40s and Multihulls.

Entry List Link :

11:00 AST Start – IRC One & IRC Two

Twenty eight teams racing in IRC One and IRC Two will be first away. The largest start features a bounty of different boats racing under the IRC Rating System.

Among the favourites for IRC One are Andrew & Sam Hall’s Lombard 46 Pata Negra (GBR) and Laurent Courbin’s First 53 Yagiza (FRA). The highest rated boats in IRC One are two Akilaria 40s designed by Marc Lombard; Stephane Bry’s Sirius II (FRA) and Marek Culen & Miroslav Jakubcik’s Sabre II (SVK). Jon Desmond’s Mills 41 Final Final (USA) is one of the fastest boats in IRC One.

The largest boat in the first start is the famous 73ft ketch Pen Duick VI (FRA), skippered by Marie Tabarly. Two other classics include the Whitbread winner Briand 58 L’Esprit d’Equipe (FRA), skippered by Lionel Regnier and the Nielsen 59 Hound (USA), owned by Tom Stark. Challenger 72 Discoverer of Hornet (GBR) is sailed by the Royal Navy. The smallest boat in IRC One is RP37 Taz (ANT); owner Bernie Evan-Wong has skippered boats in every race. 2009 winning skipper Adrian Lee will be racing his Swan 60 Lee Overlay Partners II (IRL). Antiguan Farr 65 Spirit of Juno (ANT) skippered by David Hanks has the youngest sailor in the race – Emily Guillard is just 15 years-old.

Among the favourites for IRC Two are Peter Lewis’ all-Bajan team on J/111 Whistler (BAR) and Peter McWhinnie’s JPK 1080 In Theory (USA), which was a class winner and third overall in 2020. Bob Manchester’s J/133 Vamoose (USA) was in fine form winning class in the Antigua 360 Race, part of the new RORC Nelson’s Cup Series. The largest boat in IRC Two is Clipper 60 Bluejay of Portsmouth (GBR) skippered by Andy Young.

The smallest boat in the race is Szymon Kuczynski’s Figaro One Hultaj (POL), which is one of five teams racing in IRC Two-Handed. Kate Cope’s Sun Fast 3200 Purple Mist will also be in the first start. Kate is racing with co-skipper Claire Dresser; the first all-women double-handed team to finish the RORC Transatlantic Race.

11:10 AST Start – IRC Zero & Class40

Twenty five boats will be in the second start featuring 10 carbon-fibre IRC weapons and a record entry of 13 hi-tech Class40s. A truly international spectrum with boats from 13 different countries.

Race pundits are predicting an overall winner under IRC coming from IRC Zero, but which boat will lift the RORC Caribbean 600 Trophy is far from certain.

Vice Commodore Eric de Turckheim’s Teasing Machine (FRA) is among the favourites having won the RORC Transatlantic Race and the Rolex Middle Sea Race. The fastest rated boat under IRC in the second start is the Botin 56 Black Pearl (GER) skippered by Stefan Jentzsch. Niklas Zennstrom’s CF520 Rán 8 (SWE) is rated the second fastest under IRC, and third highest is Arto Linnervuo’s Infiniti 52 Tulikettu (FIN).

The largest boat in this year’s race will be in the second start; Tod Stuart’s Swan 82 White Rhino (USA). The two smallest boats in IRC Zero are RORC Commodore James Neville’s HH42 Ino XXX and Frederic Puzin’s Ker 46 Daguet 3 – Corum (FRA). Kate & Jim Murray’s Pac52 Callisto (USA) and Evans & Sheehan’s JV52 Hooligan will definitely be in the mix, as will the lightweight canting keel flyer Henry de Bokay’s Elliott 52 Rafale (GER).

A record entry of 13 Class40s will be blasting off in the second start of the RORC Caribbean 600, including some of the latest designs of the pocket-rocket flying machines. The Class40 Race Record was set in 2018 by Catherine Pourre’s Eärendil (FRA): 61 hours, 0 minutes, 15 seconds. Racing under Class40 rules, the first Class40 to finish the RORC Caribbean 600 will be the winner of the Concise Rum Barrel, suitably filled.

Marc Lepesqueux’s Lombard Curium (FRA) and Mach5 IBSA (ITA), co-skippered by Albi Bona and Pablo Santurde are both newly launched boats. Ambrogio Beccaria’s Alla Grande – Pirelli (ITA) was second in the 2022 Route du Rhum. James McHugh’s Mach4 Tquila (SUI) was fourth in the Route du Rhum, raced by former owner Simon Koster who will be on board. Past race winners include the Verdier-designed BHB (FRA), now raced by Paul Brandel, and the Botin-designed Tales 2 (FRA) now raced by Route du Rhum finisher JB Daramy.

11:20 AST Start – IRC SuperZero

IRC Super Zero promises to be a thrilling shoot-out for seven round the world canting-keel raceboats. Boats competing come from Austria, Spain, Ireland, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland and the USA. It is likely that one of these boats will take Monohull Line Honours and maybe, just maybe, win overall under IRC as David & Peter Askew’s American Volvo 70 Wizard did in 2019.

The favourite for Monohull Line Honours is the turbo-charged Volvo 70 Pyewacket 70 (USA) owned by Roy Pat Disney, which is the highest rated boat under IRC for the RORC Caribbean 600. A close tussle is expected on the water between two Volvo 70s; Jens Lindner’s HYPR (ESP) is skippered by Seamus Fitzpatrick, and the all-Polish team on I love Poland (POL), skippered by Grzegorz Baranowski, which took Line Honours in the RORC Transatlantic Race. Johannes Schwartz’s Volvo 70 Green Dragon (NED) has 15 RORC members on board, including most of the Royal Ocean Racing Club’s main committee.

Three VO65s will have a full-on one design battle as a sabbatical from the on-going race around the world: The Ocean Race. No doubt the battle with the Volvo 70s will also be spicing up the action. Wind Whisper (POL), skippered by Volvo Ocean Race winner Joca Signorini is the leading VO65 in The Ocean Race. Third in The Ocean Race, Sisi (AUT) skippered by Gerwin Jansen is also racing. Ambersail 2 (LTU) has been chartered for the race and skippered by Poland’s Przemyslaw Tarnacki.

11:30 AST Start – Multihull

Ten multihulls are the last to start in the 2023 RORC Caribbean 600. Racing under the MOCRA Rule for class honours, there is no doubt that two boats will be lighting the afterburners for Multihull Line Honours and potentially the outright Race Record; Giovanni Soldini’s Maserati Multi70 (ITA) and MOD70 Zoulou (FRA) with Erik Maris at the helm. Jason Carroll’s Argo set the outright record last year: 29 hours, 38 mins, 44 secs. Maserati and Zoulou are both very capable of setting a new record.

Two Gunboats will be in action; Gunboat 68 Tosca (USA) co-skippered by Ken Howery and Alex Thomson is by far the quickest. Gunboat 60 Cui Bono (USA) is owned by race debutant Rob Merwin and skippered by Canadian Freddie Mills. The MOCRA Class features two historic multihulls; Formula 40 Spirit (USA) owned by Bostonian AJ Meyer, and Guy Chester’s Lock Crowther trimaran Oceans Tribute (AUS). High Performance multihulls racing include Guyader Saveol (FRA) skippered by Gwen Chapalain, MG5 (FRA) co-skippered by Marc Guillemot and Ben Dale-Jones, Oren Nataf’s Pulsar 50 (MON) Rayon Vert, and Vince Willemart’s TS42 Banzai (BEL).

In even the lightest of winds.

The Pulse 600 trimaran is a compact big sailboat, not an oversized small boat. Featuring lightweight carbon reinforced construction, and the same vacuum-formed materials as the rest of the trimaran range, this sailing trimaran will get your pulse racing in event the lightest of winds. The Pulse 600 is a sport trimaran that is about pure fun.

on a Pulse 600 trimaran

Designed for convenient, easy trailering, easy rigging and setup, the Pulse 600 trimaran can be quickly launched, unfolded, and get out on the water. With modern reverse bows and high volume floats, even the most performance-oriented sailors have plenty to get hooked on with our smallest addition to the Corsair trimaran range.

The open cockpit is designed for a crew of up to four but can equally be sailed single or double handed. Versatility is a key feature of this trimaran and the forward area provides enough storage and cover for day sailing / weekend adventures or can simply be left empty for go-fast racing. Family, crew mates or friends, it doesn’t matter with whom you sail, unfold your freedom on a Pulse 600 trimaran.

A FAST, FUN AND EASY TRIMARAN

A FAST, FUN AND EASY TRIMARAN "It was heartening to see a whole crop of new daysailers at this year’s fall shows, including sailboats with one, two or three hulls. But in the end, the judges decided the real standout in the group was the Corsair Pulse 600 trimaran." - SAIL Magazine

A FAST, FUN AND EASY TRIMARAN "Another great weekend test sailing the Pulse 600 sailing trimaran, although the breeze was a little shifty, we were able to test the carbon bowsprit. Until the bigger spinnaker arrives, the flying head sail had to do. But don't worry, we still managed to have plenty of fun! Some great reaching runs saw the leeward floats pressed at times and speeds in the high teens." - Mike Rees, General Manager at Corsair Marine Trimarans

A FAST, FUN AND EASY TRIMARAN "The Pulse 600 trimaran indeed makes it easy for sailors of different skill and experience levels to satisfy the need for speed while offering more deck space, more hull volume and stability than catamarans of the same size. And all of that without requiring circus acts on a trapeze wire. If a mellower pace is desired, it doesn’t put the Pulse 600 trimaran on the spot, because it has the necessary volume to accommodate guests. Regatta aficionados will be satisfied to learn that this little trimaran will be organized as a one-design class." - Reviewed by Dieter Loibner on boats.com

A FAST, FUN AND EASY TRIMARAN "Hitting 12+ knots of boat speed, the Pulse 600 trimaran just started to fly along and hum beautifully off the breeze and started to feel closer to an F18 than a Dash or Sprint... it was getting real fun at this stage. We started to drive it pretty hard downwind for the conditions as the apparent wind continued to increase. The float design just continued to impress as we flew through some chop and you could just see the buoyancy on those babies keeping the boat planning." - Brent Vaughan, Director at Multihull Central

A FAST, FUN AND EASY TRIMARAN "Three words suffice to describe the Pulse 600 trimaran's performance: IT'S. A. BLAST. Not only does this trimaran have superb sailing performance but it's the most comfortable small sailboat we have ever sailed on. The modern hull shapes created by Francois Perus means that we have yet to bury the leeward float bow even when reaching in 25 knots of wind with full main up." - Don Wigston, Windcraft

Auxilary power, accomodations, calculations.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Classic hull speed formula:

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

  • SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
  • D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Ballast / Displacement * 100

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
  • LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
  • LOA: Length overall in feet
  • Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet

Capsize Screening Formula

This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.

CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)

  • Online marketplaces such as eBay, Craigslist, and Facebook Marketplace often have listings for used boats at lower prices. However, it’s important to thoroughly research the seller and inspect the boat before making a purchase.
  • Boat auctions can also be a good way to find a cheap sailing boat. Websites like Boat Auctions Direct and GovDeals.com offer listings of upcoming boat auctions across the United States.
  • Boat rental companies may sell their older boats at a discounted price. Contacts with companies operating in your area may turn out to be a good idea.

DeSantis details alarming find aboard Haitian migrant boat seized off Florida coast

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced on Friday that state law enforcement had intercepted a vessel coming to the Florida coast carrying dozens of Haitian migrants, as well as firearms, drugs and night vision gear.

"Our Florida Fish and Wildlife offices interdicted a vessel that had 25 illegal immigrants, potential illegal immigrants from Haiti in their boat. In their vessel they had firearms, they had drugs, they had night vision gear and were boating very recklessly, which would potentially endanger other folks," DeSantis said, adding that the interdiction had occurred "recently" in the last few weeks.

"That vessel was interdicted near the Sebastian Inlet and those illegal aliens were turned over to the Coast Guard for deportation," he said.

DESANTIS SENDS SOLDIERS, AIRCRAFT TO ‘PROTECT’ FLORIDA FROM ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS BOATS AMID HAITI UNREST

DeSantis made the announcement at a press conference in which he also signed three pieces of legislation to deter illegal immigration into the Sunshine State.

The Republican governor had earlier this week announced an increase of personnel and aircraft to the Florida coast in light of unrest in Haiti and the potential for an increase in migration via the sea from the conflict-hit country.

The Caribbean nation has seen a significant escalation in violence as gangs have overrun the capital, burning police stations and attacking the main airport. Gangs have also raided some of the largest prisons, releasing thousands of inmates.

DHS WARNS HAITIAN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ARRIVING BY BOAT FACE ‘IMMEDIATE REPATRIATION’

The deployment in Florida includes 48 additional National Guardsmen with four additional helicopters, 39 officers from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, 30 additional Florida Highway Patrol officers with aircraft and drones, and 23 additional officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission with eight additional seacraft, according to DeSantis' office.

He stressed on Friday that this had been going on for a while, and this was an increase in enforcement and not a new operation. He said that from Jan 2023 last week, officials had assisted the Coast Guard with the interdiction of 670 vessels carrying over 13,500 illegal immigrants.

"The message is the last thing you should want to do is get on a boat and think you're going to come through from any of these islands to get to the state of Florida," DeSantis said. "The most likely scenario is you'll be stopped, and you will be returned to your country of origin."

HAITIAN PRIME MINISTER ARIEL HENRY TO RESIGN AMID LOW-SCALE CIVIL WAR, BOWING TO INTERNATIONAL PRESSURE

"It's a hazardous journey, it’s not worth doing, and we have the resources to continue to keep the people of Florida safe."

On Tuesday, Rebecca Zimmerman, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense and Hemispheric Affairs, told lawmakers that the Pentagon is "alert" to the possibility of a mass migration event, but it has also not yet seen large numbers.

"I think you’re right that the driving conditions in Haiti could very well press more people," she told Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla. "We recently approved some additional assistance we could provide to the Coast Guard."

The Department of Homeland Security has also said it is monitoring the situation, but has stressed that migration flows in the Caribbean remain "low." It also warned that those crossing face being turned back to their country of origin.

"U.S. policy is to return noncitizens who do not have a fear of persecution or torture or a legal basis to enter the United States. Those interdicted at sea are subject to immediate repatriation pursuant to our longstanding policy and procedures. The United States returns or repatriates migrants interdicted at sea to The Bahamas, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti," a spokesperson said.

On Friday, DeSantis also signed three pieces of legislation related to immigration. One increased the maximum sentence for people driving without a license. Another enhances penalties for crimes committed by illegal immigrants who return to the country after deportation, while the third bill states that no jurisdiction can recognize IDs that are distributed by other states to illegal immigrants.

Israel’s war on Gaza updates: ‘Humanitarian islands’ for Rafah civilians

With international community’s help, Israel’s military says it will transfer 1.4 million Palestinians to central Gaza ahead of its Rafah invasion.

international 600 sailboat

  • Israel’s military plans to transfer about 1.4 million Palestinian civilians trapped in southern Rafah city to “humanitarian islands” in the middle of Gaza before it launches a ground invasion.
  • Secretary of State Antony Blinken says the US government has yet to see an Israeli proposal to “get civilians out of harm’s way” in Rafah and ensures shelter, food and medicine.
  • Israeli attack hits a UN aid distribution centre in Rafah, killing at least one UNRWA staff member and wounding another 22.
  • At least 31,272 Palestinians have been killed and 73,024 injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. The death toll in Israel from Hamas’s October 7 attack stands at 1,139 and dozens continue to be held captive.

Here’s what happened today

We will be closing this live page soon. Here’s a recap of today’s events:

  • An Israeli attack hit a UN aid distribution centre in Rafah, killing at least one UNRWA staff member and wounding more than 20 others.
  • Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Hagari says that there are plans to push a significant amount of the more than one million displaced Palestinians in Rafah towards “humanitarian islands” in the centre of the Gaza Strip in advance of Israel’s planned offensive on the city.
  • Lebanon’s Hezbollah has said two of its fighters were killed in the Bekaa Valley after Israeli jets launched attacks on the area for a second consecutive day. Israel also killed a Hamas member in south Lebanon’s largest city Tyre when it attacked a car.
  • An unpublished report by UNRWA details the extensive use of torture against Palestinians taken prisoner by the Israeli military in Gaza, including 21 agency staff members and 15 family members of UNRWA staff, an accusation Israel has denied.
  • Israeli forces shot a Palestinian who allegedly stabbed two Israelis at a checkpoint near Jerusalem.

Report: US privately tells Israel it will accept small-scale Rafah offensive

A report from US news site Politico says that senior US officials have told their Israeli counterparts that the administration of President Biden will support the targeting of “high-value Hamas targets in and underneath Rafah”.

The report cites four unnamed US officials, who told Politico that the US wants Israel to avoid a large-scale invasion of the southern Gaza City, where some 1.5 million displaced Palestinians are sheltered after fleeing Israeli bombardment in other parts of the Strip.

“In private conversations, top administration officials have signaled to Israel that they could support a plan more akin to counterterrorism operations than all-out war, four US officials said”, the report says.

“That, the administration officials argue, would minimize civilian casualties, decimate Hamas’ ranks and avoid scenes that have led to souring public opinion on Israel’s campaign and Biden’s handling of the war.”

The US has long said that it would require a plan to protect civilians in Rafah before it supported Israel’s promised Rafah invasion. Today, Secretary of State Antony Blinken told reporters that the US has yet to see such a plan.

Getting aid into Gaza ‘very unpredictable’

Janti Soeripto, president of the charity Save the Children US, says it is “very unpredictable” which aid trucks can make it into Gaza and which ones are rejected.

“I saw a wooden toy box with games for children being rejected because the box was made of wood, and it had to be packed in carton boxes,” Soeripto, who was at the Rafah crossing in January, told Al Jazeera.

“Hygiene kits with soap, blankets and sanitary pads for women got rejected because there was a nail clipper in it. The list goes on.”

Moreover, Soeripto said even if trucks make it into Gaza, distribution inside was “problematic” amid the ongoing fighting in the coastal enclave.

“There’s so much rubble and destruction around that it is physically even hard to actually get the last mile in order to deliver our supplies when they make it in,” she added.

Attack on UN aid centre targeted Hamas commander: Israel military

Israel says its air strike on a UN food distribution centre in southern Gaza killed a Hamas commander after the UN said one staff member was killed and 22 others were wounded.

The Israeli military said the strike killed Mohammad Abu Hasna, whom the military described as a Hamas fighter who provided intelligence on Israeli troop positions, and was “also involved in taking control of humanitarian aid and distributing it to Hamas terrorists”.

In a statement, Hamas said Abu Hasna was a member of its police force and condemned his killing as a “cowardly assassination” meant to disrupt aid distribution.

Hamas identified another of the five killed as the head of an emergency committee for Rafah, Nidal al-Sheikh Eid.

WATCH: US woman rescued from Gaza rubble after Israeli air strike

An American woman living in Gaza was pulled from the rubble of an Israeli air strike after a two-hour operation to free her.

After she was freed, she had a message of solidarity with Palestinians facing Israel’s war. Watch the video below:

‘Who are you negotiating with if Hamas has been defeated?’

The leader of Hezbollah says Israel has already lost the war on Gaza, even if it launches a ground invasion of Rafah with the stated aim to “destroy” Hamas.

“Even if you go to Rafah, you have lost the war. Despite all the massacres, Gaza’s people will not surrender to you. The people of Gaza are still embracing the resistance,” Hassan Nasrallah said in a speech.

“Who are you negotiating with if Hamas has been defeated?” Lebanese media quoted him as saying.

“All Palestinian factions are unanimous in stopping the aggression, contrary to what is being reported that Hamas is obstructing the negotiations.”

EU Council president calls for pause in Gaza fighting

Charles Michel says a humanitarian pause is urgently needed, as well as the release of all captives.

“The EU will continue to insist on increasing urgently [needed] humanitarian aid, protection of all civilians and respect of international humanitarian law,” he said in a post on X.

Israel’s war on Gaza, raging since October 7, has caused mass civilian deaths, reduced vast areas to a rubble-strewn wasteland and sparked warnings of looming famine in the Palestinian territory of 2.3 million people.

Aid groups provide new evidence of Israel attack on staff members

Medical Aid for Palestinians and the International Rescue Committee provided new details of an Israeli air strike on a residential compound housing humanitarian workers and their families.

The January attack wounded several team members despite coordinates being shared with the Israeli military, which offered six different explanations that “ have not provided clarity” as to why it happened, a statement said.

“The variety of responses highlights a continued lack of transparency regarding what occurred. It is clear from this experience the Israeli military and government are either unable or unwilling to properly investigate this serious incident,” the groups said.

The statement called on Israel’s allies, including the US and UK, to launch “a full, independent and timebound investigation into the 18 January incident – and all reported attacks on deconflicted facilities and personnel”.

“As current suppliers of arms and munitions to Israel, governments such as the UK and the US have a particular responsibility to hold Israel accountable for this and other attacks on aid workers and civilians.”

Israeli army attacks Hezbollah

On X, the Israeli army says it recently attacked “military buildings used by the terrorist organization Hezbollah” inside Lebanese territory.

It claimed attacks on the areas of Mis al-Jabal and Ita al-Sha’ab in southern Lebanon. Additionally, the army said it carried out artillery attacks on the Wadi Hamool area.

Earlier in the day, Israel attacked a car in Tyre, south Lebanon’s largest city, killing two, including Hadi Mustafa, a Hamas member based in the Rashidieh Palestinian refugee camp near Tyre.

Criticism of Israel’s war and occupation is not anti-Semitism

Maximilian Hess

Anti-Semitism, its prevalent nature, and the shame and guilt for the Holocaust that sit at the heart of Germany’s memory culture have indelibly shaped my life.

For many of Israel’s most ardent supporters, there is no space in the debate for those who criticise Israel’s actions. Nowhere is this more clear than in Germany, where German Jews, many of them Israelis, make up a disproportionate percentage of those detained for protesting against Tel Aviv’s warpath.

Violence begets violence. “Never again” must mean never again by anyone, against anyone.

Aid seekers injured by Israeli bullets in Gaza City

Al Jazeera’s correspondent reports that nine Palestinians awaiting aid distribution at the Kuwaiti roundabout in southern Gaza City were wounded by Israeli forces.

This roundabout has been the site of several attacks on aid seekers by Israel in recent weeks.

We will bring you updates on this attack as information comes in.

Israeli MPs approve revised wartime budget

Israel’s parliament has adopted a revised budget for 2024 allowing for more spending to finance the war against Hamas, now in its sixth month.

The new budget passed by a vote of 62 lawmakers to 55.

It modifies the budget passed in May 2023, increasing the spending limit by 70.4 billion shekels ($19.4bn), or more than 14 percent, according to a statement from Israel’s legislature, the Knesset.

Of that amount, 55 billion shekels ($15.1bn) could be allocated to the military and 15.5 billion ($4.1bn) could go “to finance civilian needs”, the statement said.

WATCH: How does US intelligence disagree with Israel on Gaza?

In its annual report, the US intelligence community says Hamas cannot be destroyed.

The group’s elimination is a core aim of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s merciless onslaught in Gaza.

So why is the US continuing to arm Israel to fight a war it doesn’t believe can be won?

EU, 5 other nations call on Israel to open additional crossings to Gaza

The European Union and five other countries in a joint statement called on Israel to open additional crossings besides the Cyprus maritime corridor so more aid can reach the coastal enclave.

“The ministers agreed there is no meaningful substitute to land routes via Egypt and Jordan and entry points from Israel into Gaza for aid delivery at scale,” it said, following a virtual ministerial meeting.

“The ministers underscored the need for Israel to open additional crossings so more aid can reach Gaza, including the north, and to ease overall customs restrictions to facilitate an increased flow of life-saving humanitarian assistance.”

Blinken comments on Israeli attack on UNRWA facility

In his news conference, the US secretary of state has told reporters that the US offers its condolences to the families and loved ones of those who “apparently” were killed in today’s bombing of an aid distribution facility operated by the UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees.

According to UNRWA, the attack killed at least one of its staff members and injured an additional 22 other people.

Blinken admitted that he did not know “the facts” of the incident, but said that he spoke to the Israeli army about it, which told him that they were investigating.

He said that the incident reinforces “the imperative of having much better and much more consistent deconfliction,” between humanitarian workers and the Israeli army, adding that the people working to distribute desperately needed humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip must “be able to do their jobs with as much security and as much confidence as possible”.

The Israeli military, the Israeli government, have a responsibility to make sure that humanitarian work can be carried out,” he continued, including not striking “clearly marked” humanitarian facilities.

Israeli attacks on aid trucks and Palestinians seeking the aid carried by those trucks have been frequent over the last several weeks, including in northern Gaza, which is on the verge of famine.

Israeli military says it will push Rafah’s civilians to ‘humanitarian islands’

Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Hagari says that there are plans to push a significant amount of the more than one million displaced Palestinians in Rafah toward “humanitarian islands” in the centre of the Gaza Strip in advance of its planned offensive on the city.

“We need to make sure that 1.4 million people or at least a significant amount of the 1.4 million will move. Where? To humanitarian islands that we will create with the international community,” Hagari told reporters at a briefing.

Hagari said those islands would provide temporary housing, food, water and other necessities to evacuated Palestinians. He did not say when Rafah’s evacuation would occur, nor when the Rafah offensive would begin, saying that Israel wanted the timing to be right operationally and to be coordinated with neighbouring Egypt, which has said it does not want an influx of displaced Palestinians crossing its border.

The US has frequently said that it will not support an Israeli invasion of Rafah without a clear plan to protect civilians there.

During its war on Gaza, Israel has frequently designated areas and corridors of movement for civilians as “ safe zones ” before bombing them, killing many.

Blinken says Israel has still hasn’t presented a plan to protect civilians in Rafah

The US government has been consistently saying that it would not support Israel’s promised invasion of Rafah without a “clear” plan from the Israeli government to protect the more than one million displaced Palestinians that are currently sheltering there.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says that the US government has “not seen such a plan” as of yet.

“We need to see a plan that will get civilians out of harm’s way if there is to be a military operation, and not only get’s them out of harm’s way, but ensures that they have shelter, food and medicine,” he said.

Protecting civilians must be ‘priority’ for Israel: US

Protecting and aiding civilians must be “job number one” for Israel in the war-battered Gaza Strip, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says.

“We look to the government of Israel to make sure this is a priority. Protecting civilians, getting people assistance they need, that has to be job number one, even as they do what is necessary to defend the country to deal with the threat posed by Hamas,” he told reporters.

US President Joe Biden has made contradictory statements about how he intends to approach mounting international concerns over Israel’s military actions.

On Saturday, he said an invasion of the southern city of Rafah would be a “red line” for Israel not to cross. Still, he said he would never “leave Israel” or “cut off all weapons” for the US ally.

‘Deep distress’ over Gaza war to sour St Patrick’s Day at White House

The annual White House celebration of St Patrick’s Day will be less festive because of Irish anger over US support for Israel’s attack on Gaza.

The SDLP, Northern Ireland’s smaller nationalist party, said it isn’t sending any representatives to Washington, DC, for Friday’s event.

“The White House St Patrick’s Day event is a party. We have taken the principled position that we won’t be attending that party,” said Claire Hanna, an SDLP lawmaker.

“This is about the deep distress that we and our constituents feel practically every hour of the day about what’s going on in Gaza, and our attempt to use whatever opportunities we have — parliamentary and otherwise — to contribute and create international momentum to end this,” the Washington Post quoted Hanna as saying.

Dutch PM Rutte calls on Netanyahu to step up humanitarian aid into Gaza

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte urged his Israeli counterpart to “drastically reduce the level of force” unleashed on the coastal enclave.

“Further escalation must be prevented and an Israeli offensive in Rafah would cause a humanitarian disaster,” he added.

‘Stop Arming Israel’ protesters block San Francisco airport in US

Hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters have shut down part of the San Francisco International Airport to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the end of all US military assistance to Israel.

Demonstrators chanted “Free, free Palestine” while holding a banner that read “Stop Arming Israel” as they blocked access to security gates inside the international terminal in northern California.

Protesters also halted traffic outside the departures entrance, blocking all lanes while marching in a circle with Palestinian flags.

Israel’s war on Gaza has sparked mass demonstrations in major cities across the United States and led to repeated interruptions at US President Joe Biden’s campaign events.

MSF condemns last months’ Jenin hospital attacks

The international medical charity Doctors Without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres, or MSF) says Israel’s attack was just the “latest act of appalling violence” at the facility.

“In the last months, our team has witnessed bullets and tear gas grenades being fired at the facility, a minor being killed, ambulances being obstructed, and healthcare professionals being targeted,” Samuel Johann, MSF project coordinator in Jenin, said in a series of posts on X.

“Shooting people in a hospital, or any act of violence in a healthcare facility, is completely unacceptable. We unequivocally condemn the continued attacks on healthcare facilities.”

South Africa says citizens fighting with Israeli forces in Gaza will be arrested

South Africa’s foreign minister has said that any of her country’s citizens who fight with the Israeli armed forces in Gaza will be arrested when they return home.

Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor made the comments earlier this week at a Palestinian solidarity event attended by officials from South Africa’s governing African National Congress Party.

“I have already issued a statement alerting those who are South African and are fighting alongside or in the [Israeli military]: We are ready. When you come home, we are going to arrest you,” Pandor said, to rapturous applause from the audience.

She also encouraged people to protest outside the embassies of what she called the “five primary supporters” of Israel and its military action in Gaza.

In December, the foreign ministry said that the South African government was concerned that some of its citizens or permanent residents had joined the Israeli military to fight in Gaza.

Those with dual South African-Israeli citizenship could be stripped of their South African citizenship, the foreign ministry said.

How To Get Your ICC Certification (in 8 Countries)

Understanding how to get the International Certificate of Competence can be complex. Different countries issue them differently. In this article, I'll list the exact process for 8 different countries.

How to get your ICC certification? In most countries you can simply apply for an ICC if you have the correct national boating licenses. However, some countries, like the US, can't issue the ICC. Luckily, there are alternatives available, like the SLC or IPC.

For each country, the process is somewhat different, and the licenses required are named differently. So I've compiled a list with all the different national licenses you can use to get yourself an ICC or an alternative international license.

On this page:

How to get your international license, united states, united kingdom, switzerland, the netherlands.

The ICC is the International Certificate of Competence for Operator of Pleasure Craft . You'll want to get this if you're planning on sailing international or coastal waters or chartering boats in Europe, for example.

The ICC is an internationally accepted sailing license. Most countries accept the ICC. There are some exceptions, but in practice, even in these countries, most charter companies will accept the ICC as sufficient proof of sailing experience.

In most countries, you can get an ICC by getting the right national boating licenses. After that, you can simply apply for an ICC with the right authorities. OR you automatically get the ICC, if it's integrated with the national license.

For example, in The Netherlands, you simply obtain Boat License I + II. The ICC is integrated with the national licenses.

The Required Licenses for 8 Different Countries

Here's a comprehensive table of the different ways to get an international sailing license in different countries:

I'll discuss each country in detail below.

The U.S. hasn't signed UN Resolution 40 (UNR40), which means they can't issue ICC's.

This makes it difficult for U.S. citizens to get an ICC. In theory, you could get an RYA Day Skipper course and apply for an ICC with the RYA. They have certified U.S. partners. However, it's only in three locations, so not always a practical option.

Luckily, there are some other options.

International Proficiency Certificate (IPC)

Your first alternative is to get an International Proficiency Certificate (IPC) instead.

The IPC is issued by ASA (American Sailing Association). You can apply for one here .

To apply for one, you must be a certified ASA sailor with at least ASA 101, ASA 103 and ASA 104 certifications.

Sailing License and Credentials (SLC)

NauticEd's International Sailing License and Credentials (SLC) is another good option. The SLC is a valid international sailing license. It's probably the easiest and least expensive option for US residents.

It's a great alternative if you already have a lot of practical experience. You do need to do a one-day practical assessment (takes about 6 hours), and have a national (state) boating license.

The cool thing about this license is most of your training is online. You simply take NauticEd's Bareboat Charter Master Course . This bundle of courses will take about 40 hours in total, and goes over all the nitty-gritty of sailing theory. So you'll be sure to be up to date.

And it's pretty affordable too, at $175.

If you need more information before signing up for a $175 course, make sure to read William's in-depth NauticEd review , in which he goes over most of the courses.

  • Read more on the SLC at NauticEd here .
  • If you want to try out NauticEd's course system, you could sign up for two completely free courses first (opens in new tab).

Get Your State Boating License First

Regardless of the course you end up taking, you should probably first get your state boaters license. This is cheap and easy: in most states, you can learn and take the exam online. If you want to learn what State Boaters License you should get for your state, please check out my article on the boating licenses for all 50 states here .

More Detailed Step-By-Step Plan

If you're looking to learn to sail from scratch, but don't know where to start, I have written a detailed e-book that contains actionable step-by-step lesson plans for different budgets and situations. This book will save you hundreds of dollars, hours, and a headache. You can get it here. Please check it out. You will support our work, and more importantly: it will help you get started much quicker and cheaper.

In the United Kingdom, the RYA issues the ICC. You can apply for the ICC if you have an RYA Day Skipper certification .

If you don't, you could also take a special ICC Assessment at an ICC test center.

You can apply for an ICC here (opens in new tab).

Canada can issue ICC's. If you want to be able to apply for one, you'll need to have finished the RYA Day Skipper Theory & Practical course.

If you already have sufficient practical skill and theoretical knowledge (similar to RYA or higher), you could also take a one-day ICC assessment. These typically take about 6 hours and cost about $600.

This is the cheapest way IF you already have the experience that's required.

Australia can't issue ICC licenses, but they are partners with RYA. This means Australians can obtain the ICC by successfully completing the RYA Day Skipper Practical & Theory course. After that, you may apply for an ICC through the RYA.

If you already have sufficient practical skill and theoretical knowledge (level RYA Day Skipper or higher), you could also take a one-day ICC assessment. These typically take about 6 hours and cost about $600.

France issues their own ICC licenses. To apply for an ICC there, you first need the national boating license.

LE PERMIS PLAISANCE - extension Grande plaisance fluviale

This extension translates to Pleasure Craft Great Rivers. It will get you the ICC Coastal waters permit.

Ireland issues their own ICC licenses. You'll have to complete a special training course for Boating Abroad at the Irish Sailing Assocation.

To find training locations and apply for a course, you can check their website here .

Switzerland issues their own ICC licenses. You will get the ICC card after obtaining the national boating license.

The national license you'll need is called:

Hochseeausweis (Swiss Certificate of Competence for Ocean Yachting)

It's issued by the Cruising Club der Schweiz (CCS) in Bern.

To get this permit, you'll need to prove 1000 miles of sailing experience and pass a theory exam. Please note, inland miles are excluded; you have to prove 1000 miles of sea experience.

Alternatives to getting an ICC are:

  • Sportbootfüherschein See (SBF Germany)

The Netherlands issues ICC. Here, the ICC is integrated with the two national boating licenses (I and II). In order to sail coastal waters, you'll need both. After obtaining both licenses, you automatically receive your ICC.

The official name of the licenses are:

Vaarbewijs I - or: Boat license I Vaarbewijs II - or: Boat license II

Hi, I am a Brazilian expat living in the Netherlands. I have sailed for about 30 years back in Brazil and I would like to know if there is a way of getting an ICC license to sail leisure crafts in the Netherlands (and eventually Europe) through an exam in English (in the Netherlands), as I am still beginning to learn Dutch. Thank you very much.

I am going to redo some training. Is it true that the SLC certification offered by Nauticed is very widely recognized and accepted throughout the world for chartering (along with one’s on-the-water resume of course). It is created in the USA because the ICC and RYA are unavailable in USA (at least this is what I think is true). I’d like to get something that is known in as many locations as possible! Thank you for your time. Aloha, Doug

I am an avid sailor and a professional translator and interpreter of English. I am looking for an English language textbook about the basics of motor boating and sailing( technical details, priority rules etc) that can help me prepare for interpretation services at the Dutch CBR, the institute that issues the Dutch Vaarbewijs I and II (Sailing licenses I and II). who can help out? Thanks in advance.

I have held an RYA Yactmaster Offshore Certificate for many years but I now wish to sail the inland waterways in Europe. I can take the CEVNI on line with no problem if necessary. My boat is registered in France where I live. What is the easiest way to get an ICC? Many thanks for your help.

AEGEAN 600 5 – 13 July 2024

Why aegean 600.

"AEGEAN 600" bears the name of the Aegean Sea. The sea that Homer praised. A sea where every mile can offer you different emotions.

In this sea all of us, the participants of this event organized by Hellenic Offshore Racing Club, will sail an exciting race in the primordial sea with 600 miles of non-stop sailing.

Race Course

The sea of myths and legends. The sea of Homer, Seferis and Elytis. The sea of painters and philosophers. The sea of sailors. 600 miles of sailing in this sea.

An offshore race designed by sailors for sailors. A race where the wind god, Aeolus, will play his own game to test sailors’ seamanship. A race where the dolphins will accompany the boats to drive them faster to the finish. A race with enchanting sunrises and sunsets. A race where mythology rewards sport in a unique water track. All this and much more is the “AEGEAN 600”.  A non-stop race.

The Start is given by Homer’s sanctuary, in front of the columns of Poseidon’s temple, and with the wishes of the mythical god of the sea the boats sail for  Milos , the home of the Venus of Milos, the prize of the Louvre de Paris. Surrounded by Cycladic white, they reach the scenic Caldera of Santorini , where the white of the houses blends with the volcanic rock creating unique contrasts and images. They continue towards the southernmost island of the Aegean Sea, Kassos , and leaving  Karpathos on the left, the nativity island of Athena, and the residence of Prometheus, reach the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights in  Rhodes . The course continues towards scenic Kos  and  Kalymnos , the island of sponge divers, while on the way they meet, besides dolphins, beautiful small islands, each with its own history. The fleet sails next to the full color islands of Pharmakonisi  and  Agathonisi , and continue to Ikario Pelagos, a sea that offers strong sailing excitement. The sailors meet  Patmos , the island of Saint John and the Cave of the Apocalypse, and head to cosmopolitan Mykonos  and  Delos , the birthplace of Apollo. The last islands of the route are  Giaros  and  Kea . Slowly Finally the contestants face the Temple of Poseidon that will mark the end of the sailing adventure and the race.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book.

It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing

Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old.

Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance.

The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

Global Methane Tracker 2024

international 600 sailboat

About this report

Methane is responsible for around 30% of the rise in global temperatures since the Industrial Revolution, and rapid and sustained reductions in methane emissions are key to limiting near-term global warming and improving air quality. The energy sector – including oil, natural gas, coal and bioenergy – accounts for over a third of methane emissions from human activity. The IEA’s Global Methane Tracker is an indispensable tool in the fight to bring down emissions from across the energy sector.

This year’s update provides our latest estimates of emissions from across the sector – drawing on the more recent data and readings from satellites and ground-based measurements – and the costs and opportunities to reduce these emissions. It also tracks current pledges and policies to drive down methane emissions and progress towards these goals. For the first time the Tracker includes the investments needed to deliver emissions reductions and the potential revenue from these measures.

The biggest yachts to look out for at the 2024 St Barths Bucket

St Barths is the epicentre of superyacht racing during the Caribbean season, often with an impressive array of superyacht spectators in tow . In the final days leading up to the 2024 St Barths Bucket (21-24 March), BOAT rounds up the largest yachts seen pulling into Gustavia for the famed regatta, beginning with Lürssen's 138-metre Rising Sun ...

Builder: Lürssen Length: 138.01m

If not for her sheer size, Rising Sun will be easy to spot from the shores of Gustavia thanks to her distinct glass panels running across the two upper decks. The yacht was the last ever design of Jon Bannenberg and boasts 8,000 square metres of living space that includes a wine cellar, double-height cinema and a basketball court. Rising Sun was originally commissioned by American business magnate Larry Ellison , who later sold the yacht to media mogul David Geffen.

Builder: Kleven Length: 116.15m

One of the largest explorer yachts in the world , Multiverse (ex Ulysses ) was commissioned by New Zealand's richest man, Graeme Hart. She is equipped with a heli-hangar on the top deck for a Bell 429 helicopter, as well as a large swimming pool, cinema and spa for the ultimate guest experience. Inside, the yacht's massive 18-metre beam provides accommodation for an owner's party of up to 66.

Maltese Falcon

Builder: Perini Navi Length: 88m

Fresh out of a full-scale refit, Maltese Falcon is undoubtedly one of the most unique and technologically innovative sailing superyachts in the world – kitted out with radical unstayed masts made of "weapons-grade" carbon fibre, a FalconRig and computerised sail and mast control system. Be sure to look out for the yacht's eponymous emblem on its middle sail, which also appears in the form of a bronze sculpture next to the indoor cinema.

Builder: Admiral – The Italian Sea Group Length: 74.85m

Instantly recognisable, Kenshō' 's flowing lines and metallic green-blue hull took six years to create with design from Dutch firm Azure Yacht Design and Naval Architecture and Berlin-based archineers.berlin . The Admiral flagship was awarded the coveted Motor Yacht of the Year title at the 2023 BOAT International World Superyacht Awards and picked up another Neptune at the 2023 BOAT International Design & Innovation Awards for Best Interior Design. Onboard highlights include a glass-fronted spa pool on the sundeck, a sunbed shaped in the image of a manta ray and a diesel-electric system based on five variable-speed generators that earned the yacht its Eco classification.

Builder: Heesen Yachts Length: 65m

The multiple award-winning Illusion (ex Galactica Star ) was delivered by Heesen in 2013, featuring the Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) developed by Dutch naval architects Van Oossanen & Associates . Her streamlined appearance and generous guest amenities have made her a favourite on the charter scene, with Beyoncé and Jay Z among her list of returning clients . Illusion was also singled out by Dickie Bannenberg – who designed the yacht's interior – as one of his most memorable projects owing to its considerable onboard art collection.

Builder: Benetti Length: 60m

Another popular charter vessel, St David will once again appear on the hit reality TV show Below Deck , but this time with a new captain at the helm. The yacht is characterised by a classic Baroque theme with intricate marquetry made from satin woods, and a mosaic floor on the skylounge that draws inspiration from a "Tuscan palazzo". While St David is known to frequent high-profile events such as the Cannes Film Festival, she has also ventured to off-the-beaten-path locations including the Seychelles, Red Sea and Abu Dhabi.

Builder: Trinity Yachts Length: 58.83m

Launched in 2016, Imagine... is one of the largest yachts to be built in the United States . The tri-deck vessel was penned by long-time collaborator Geoff Van Aller , with both the hull and superstructure built from aluminium to AB classification. The yacht's primary social area is found on the sundeck, where guests can relax in the Jacuzzi, on multiple sun loungers or at the bar. Inside, Imagine... also has a bonus cabin that doubles as a massage room.

Builder: Feadship Length: 55.5m

This Feadship superyacht has sailed under a litany of names since her 2005 delivery, including Twizzile , Drizzle , Issana , Madsummer , Cynthia and most recently, Mary A . In 2018, her owner joined forces with American interior designer Claudette Bonville Associates to give Mary A an exhaustive makeover that included a top-to-bottom paint job, technical tweaks and a brand-new interior – all while carefully preserving the yacht's pedigree.

Builder: Benetti Length: 52m

Lady B (ex Latitude ) appears to be making the most of the winter cruising season, with back-and-forth trips between the British Virgin Islands and St Barths since early December 2023 according to BOATPro 's Global Fleet Tracker. Before that, the yacht spent the off-season touring fan-favourite destinations in the South Pacific, such as Fiji, the Cook Islands and French Polynesia. She is consistently ranked among the most popular charter vessels with amenities such as an outdoor cinema, a Jacuzzi and a recently updated dive centre.
