Viking Yachts 93 Motor Yacht Used-Yacht Review

Gilman Yachts currently has Obsession , a Viking Yachts 93 Motor Yacht, listed for sale with an asking price of $7.4 million. The 2018 enclosed-flybridge motor yacht has charter potential with its five-stateroom layout, two crew cabins and a sub six-foot draft.

Yachting ‘s initial review of the Viking 93 Motor Yacht reported how the New Jersey boatbuilder’s flagship model was based on its 75 Motor Yacht’s design, but also drew inspiration from a Viking owner’s Westport 112 .

“One Viking owner also has a Westport, and Viking’s designers and top brass spent a good amount of time on board that yacht learning how to nail down the needs of owners in that size range. What Viking developed from that experience is a boat built for socializing, one that lets hands-on owners feel at home while enjoying mega-yacht features.”

Speaking of mega-yacht features, the salon has a formal dining area for eight guests forward with a high-gloss wood table with inset stainless-steel trim. Next to the dining table to starboard are sliding glass doors that open for warm breezes and provide access to the Opacmare foldout balcony. Aft, guests will find three sofas positioned around a coffee table to port. The salon sole is Avalon Acacia Cocoa plank.

“The salon has a markedly masculine feel, perhaps not surprising from a company with roots in sport fishing. Rich satin walnut with high-gloss walnut accents exudes a stately elegance and inviting warmth,” Yachting said during its initial review.

Forward, a dividing wall separates the 93 MY’s country galley from the dining area. Foodies will rejoice over Obsession ’s galley, which is equipped with a full complement of Miele appliances, including a surface-mount, four-burner induction stovetop, a stainless-steel oven, a full-size upright Sub-Zero refrigerator, two doors with freezer drawers, a stainless-steel microwave, an exhaust fan with exterior ventilation, a Badger garbage disposal, a Double under-mount stainless-steel sink with satin-nickel faucet, a Fisher-Paykel dishwasher with a walnut front. A four-person dinette is forward of the galley’s island, which doubles as a bar with four fixed stools, for casual dining.

The yacht’s enclosed flybridge, which can be accessed from stairs in the salon, has a three-person, aft-facing bar to port. An L-shaped sofa with a coffee table is forward and to port. The helm station is forward with a single Stidd helm seat on centerline for the skipper, which is flanked by two Stidd bench seats for guests and crew.

Exterior spaces on board this 93-footer include a cockpit penned for alfresco dining with a 32-square-foot dining table, which has a removable leaf to make getting around easier. Its U-shaped bench seat aft against the transom has space for five guests. Pull up some loose chairs for additional seating. A three-person bar is forward and to port.

When it’s time to catch some sun or enjoy sundowners with friends, the vessel’s teak side decks lead to the foredeck where there is a four-person bench seat abaft a three-person sun pad.

The 93 MY’s five staterooms are all belowdecks, including the full-beam (24’4″) master stateroom amidships. The space has a king berth on centerline, a two-person dining nook, a 65-inch flat-screen TV and an en suite head. The forepeak VIP stateroom has a queen berth, a 32-inch flat-screen TV and an en suite head. The guest stateroom forward and to starboard has twin bunks and a flat-screen TV. The aft starboard guest stateroom has twin berths, a flat-screen TV and an en suite head. The VIP stateroom to port has a queen berth, a flat-screen TV and an en suite head.

Power for Obsession is twin 1,945 hp MTU 12V2000 M96L diesels, giving it a reported 27-knot top hop and a 21- to 24-knot cruise speed. Range at cruise speed is around 400 nautical miles, according to the builder. Viking’s 93 motor yacht has a “resin-infused, balsa-cored hull with a fine entry and 15.2 degrees of deadrise at the transom…”

Some other notable features include a Seakeeper SK35 stabilization system, Garmin electronics, including two Garmin GPSMAP 8617 17-inch multifunction displays, an GPSMAP 8622 22-inch MFD, 2526 x HD2 25 kW radar with six-foot array, GSD-26 Chirp video sounder with 1 kW wide-beam transducer, GXM 53 weather antenna, AIS-600 AIS transponder, NMEA 2000 (network components, Garmin Wi-Fi adapter for BlueChart, Furuno RD33 data organizer, Garmin GHP Reactor steer-by-wire autopilot, two ICOM M-605 VHF radios, Fusion MS-ACSXV Sirius XM tuner, KVH Tracphone V7-IP, KVH HD7 TracVision SAT TV and more.

With engineering excellence, performance prowess and luxury accommodations, the 93 Motor Yacht has solidified the Viking Yacht Company's position as the finest builder of luxury motor yachts in the marine industry. The recent world premiere of the 214,685-pound vessel marked the successful completion of a 2-1/2-year quest to build the largest-ever yacht since the company was founded in 1964.

"We have a history of building ground-breaking boats, and never has this been so true as with the 93 Motor Yacht," says Viking President and CEO Pat Healey.

The tri-deck motor yacht, powered with twin state-of-the-art 1,945-hp MTU diesels, combines the performance of a convertible sportfish with the luxury and accommodations of a motor yacht. She tops out from 26.5-27.5 knots and cruises from 21-24 knots. The 93 MY runs fast, but she also has the legs for long-distance destination cruises, with a range exceeding 400 nautical miles at cruising speeds.

With a 24-foot, 4-inch beam, the vessel holds five staterooms and seven heads, two expansive salons and after decks, a huge forward galley, 12 televisions, storage for a tender and crew quarters for three. "Everything from the engineroom to the staterooms to the showers to the galley to the salon is big, accommodating and comfortable," says Pat. "In the U.S. Ñ and in all of the Americas Ñ people like big, and that's what we're giving them."

You'll be hard-pressed to find this level of engineering in any other motor yacht. In our industry-leading engineroom, our custom exhaust system serves as an example of our experience and attention to detail. Painted with Awlgrip in bright Snow White for easier visibility and maintenance, the engineroom is equipped with technologically advanced but easy-to-maintain systems for engineroom ventilation, air conditioning, fire suppression, oil changing and centralized seawater and freshwater.

Enclosed Bridge The enclosed bridge, accessed from the salon and lower after deck, showcases an impressive center helm with a Stidd helm chair and flanking Stidd companion seats. Navigation and communication systems from the Viking subsidiary Atlantic Marine Electronics assure turnkey delivery. Open the large powered sunroof to invite in the sunshine and sea breeze as you relax in the L-shaped sofa that faces a pop-up flat-screen HD TV. A day head adds to the overall convenience of this unique area.

Main Deck Enjoy the outdoors on the expansive forward and aft decks. The foredeck is loaded with comfortable padded seating and lounges that sit atop storage compartments, easily accessed with gas piston-assisted hatch lids. The aft deck dinette includes a U-shaped settee and twin solid teak leaf tables that allow you to create one single, large dining table. Forward, there's a bar with an L-shaped counter, three polished stainless steel bar stools, a fold-out television, refrigeration, an ice maker, a storage cabinet and a sink. Dual staircases on the port and starboard sides lead down to the hydraulically powered swim platform, which provides access to the garage that can house a dinghy or other small watercraft.

Enter the salon through polished stainless-steel framed sliding glass doors. The salon offers a U-shaped seating area with two end tables, a cocktail table, a home entertainment center with pop-up 65-inch flat-screen HD TV and a formal dining area for eight. Starboard-side hydraulic-powered sliding doors lead to a teak-covered sidedeck, and a powered balcony door that opens outboard with the touch of a button.

The galley, forward of the salon, has the pleasant atmosphere of a country kitchen. Four fixed bar stools with footrests rim an island Caesarstone-topped counter. Just aft of the windshield, there's also a forward banquette with a table. The latest appliances and conveniences are easily accessible and include a full-size 7-foot-tall Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer, microwave/convection oven and a four-burner cooktop with a conventional oven below. A 32-inch flat-screen TV fixed outboard of the cabinetry on the port side can be viewed from both the bar and the banquette. A day head is just a few steps away on the starboard side.

Accommodations You'll find spaciousness and elegance throughout the five-stateroom layout below. The privately accessed full beam master suite is royally appointed with designer touches, including plush wall-to-wall premium carpeting, a king-size bed, a surround-sound entertainment system with 65-inch flat-screen HD TV, a walk-in closet, a port-side vanity and a starboard table with two chairs and an ensuite head. Generous amounts of natural light fill stateroom, accentuating the high-gloss walnut woodwork.

Four additional staterooms will ensure utmost comfort and privacy for family and guests. The forward VIP stateroom has a queen walk-around bed with decorative Channell glass ensconced in the headboard, an overhead skylight, a maple-lined hanging locker and an ensuite head. Crew quarters discreetly reached from the after deck include a pair of staterooms, a head with shower and a galley with a dinette.

Viking motor yacht Obsession listed for sale

The 28.4-metre Viking motor yacht Obsession has been listed for sale by Jeff Stanley at Gilman Yachts .

Built in GRP by US yard Viking , she was delivered in 2017 as a Viking 93 enclosed flybridge model with a beam of 7.42 metres and a draught of 1.8 metres. Accommodation is for up to ten guests split between five cabins, including a master suite, two VIP suites and two twins, all with en suite bathroom facilities. 

The main deck saloon offers a U-shaped seating area and coffee table, an entertainment centre including a pop-up 65-inch flatscreen HD television set and a formal dining area with a high gloss table seating eight. Starboard­ side hydraulic-powered sliding doors lead to a teak-covered side deck and a powered balcony door that opens outboard with the touch of a button. 

Forward, a full-beam galley is designed as a sociable country kitchen where four fixed bar stools provide seating at a Caesarstone-topped breakfast bar.

Above is the skylounge and helm station, which benefit from an opening glass sky roof and aft window that retracts to allow interior crew on deck to serve the inside bar. Alternatively, a bi-folding door opens up the entire aft bulkhead to create a single indoor-outdoor entertaining space with an electric grill and Rattan seating outdoor.

The main deck aft offers a secondary entertaining space, shaded by the overhang of the flybridge, with another sit-up two-tier bar and a glossy dining table, while a more secluded sun lounge can be found at the bow. 

Twin MTU V12 2000 M96L engines, which are still under warranty, deliver a top speed of 23 knots while Seakeeper gyroscopic stabilisers keep her steady. Obsession carries a crew of three.

DESCRIPTION

SAVARONA, a performance world cruiser, was designed by naval architect Philippe Cabon and Frank Darnet (interior) and custom built in aluminum, by the French yard Construction Navale Bordeaux.

SAVARONA has been on a proper refit schedule since new. Her first in 2006, the second in 2010, and the major refit completed in 2015 when hauled at the Gino Yard in Marmaris, Turkey. Shortly before, in August 2014, she had been hauled in Palm Beach f28 or a hull survey and inspection by Patton Marine, one of the best marine survey companies in the world.

SAVARONA has now completed an extensive refit, done by an experienced owner who is unable to do something “good enough”, it has to be done the right way. His project manager, also a marine surveyor himself, was on site for the entire project. The result is an absolutely stunning yacht that is better than new, with $1.5M invested. Not only was SAVARONA fully repainted, mast-boom-hull-superstructure, but also new 16 mm Burma teak decks and caprail was laid, with new teak added to the coachroof well. Deck hardware is all new black anodized Lewmar, interior varnishing and refurbishing with high quality fabrics, but the real story is under the floorboards and behind the cabinetry. Virtually every system has been serviced/replaced or modified, so that her planned charter activity would not have any interruptions. Her new owner has the choice of using her as a private yacht or continue with the charter operation, complete with web site.

Her twin cockpit layout is perfect for guests and crew. The center cockpit area has a rounded settee with a good size table for dining, which was just custom designed and built with an ice bucket and wired Bluetooth linked to the yacht’s stereo system. The aft steering/crew cockpit, also has comfortable rounded seating area, with steering and navigation completely separate. And as the owner needs to run his business while cruising, she has full Internet connectivity and communication from anywhere in the world.

SAVARONA had a beautiful Atlantic crossing in 2017. She sailed 4,009 miles with an average speed of 9.2 knots (her owner now has over 8,000 miles on board her).

With her striking Flag Blue exterior, swept-back profile and elegant starboard-side balcony, this seven-stateroom, two-salon beauty was the star of the recent boat show season. Making full use of a beam that spans 24 ft. 4 in., the 93’s interior has more volume than many 100-plus-footers. A three-piece sofa, a swivel chair, a custom two-piece polished white marble cocktail table, end tables and an entertainment center with a pop-up 65-inch HD TV highlight the salon’s many amenities. Guests will be awed by this yacht’s formal dining area, which seats eight and features a tray ceiling with LED lighting that illuminates a finely crafted custom wood table. The bulkhead separating the dining area and forward galley is dressed with a custom Chinchilla Night Blue fabric upholstered in symmetrical blocks, creating a soft tactile look, with a centered painting under its own light.

Chefs have all of the latest appliances and conveniences at their disposal in the forward country kitchen-style galley, including a full-size 7-foot-tall Sub-Zero refrigerator, microwave convection oven, four-burner cooktop with conventional oven below, dishwasher, a two-bowl stainless steel sink and a trash compactor. Four bar stools surround a galley island that’s topped with jet black Caesarstone. A raised banquette with a walnut table faces aft. Large wraparound forward windows bring the outside in, allowing you to enjoy the scenery while you have breakfast, lunch or a snack.

The enclosed bridge not only serves as the control station for the captain but as a second salon, with an L-shaped sofa to port, cocktail table with Caesarstone top and two ottomans (with interior storage), an entertainment center with a 55″ HD TV and a day head. The glass-paneled sunroof and its shade are electric powered as is the aft windshield above the bar. The stainless- steel-framed bi-folding glass doors open to the aft teak deck – yet another exquisite gathering area that invites socialization, complete with a bar and a grill, corner sink, refrigerator and four-stool seating. A custom interior stainless steel staircase connects the enclosed bridge with the salon, plus exterior stairs join the upper and lower aft decks.

A starboard-side staircase in the salon provides private access to the master stateroom, while a second stairway forward leads to four additional staterooms. The master stateroom is particularly commodious and luxurious. Spanning the beam, this large space includes a king bed, a 65″ HD TV, a port-side vanity/desk and a walk-closet. Large enough for two people to comfortably move about, the head is appointed with twin sinks, a mirrored ceiling and a walk-in shower. The vanity top and shower floor and walls are made with Caesarstone – their grey and off-white colors blend artfully with the custom wallpaper. The forward VIP stateroom’s raised queen bed with oversized walk-around area has a skylight with hatch and Oceanair screen shade. Channell Glass artwork is ensconced in the custom headboard.

The captain and crew also have first-class accommodations, and direct access to the engine room. A common area, which includes a countertop with microwave and refrigerator and a seating areas with fold-down table, separates the captain’s and the crew stateroom. Each has a 22″ flat-screen TV, a hanging locker, an end table and carpeted floor.

A pair of state-of-the-art Caterpillar C32A (1925MHP) engines are mounted in Viking’s expertly engineered and constructed engine room, which is also equipped with a Seakeeper gyro SK 35, twin 55 kW gensets and an ASEA transformer. The powerplants team up with a bow and stern thruster and are tied into ZF’s JMS with joystick and station keeping. Dual wing stations are ideal for docking situations. Chilled water air conditioning provides cooling and heat throughout the yacht with individual thermostats in the staterooms and the salon for efficient climate control.

Other features that will heighten your yachting experience include Nautical Structures Carbon Fiber Yacht Stairs for easy dockside ingress/egress; a garage door (with hydraulic-lift door) designed for tender storage; a hydraulically powered swim platform that can be lowered below water level; and bow lounge areas with sunpads and a sunshade.
