Circa Marine launches FPB 78 superyacht Cochise

New Zealand yard Circa Marine has announced that it has launched the 26.27 metre  Cochise , the first hull in its FPB 78 superyacht series.

This all-aluminium yacht was splashed last month and is currently undergoing sea trials off Whangarei, where she hit a top speed of 13.25 knots.

Styled inside and out by Dashew Offshore , Cochise features accommodation for six guests split across three cabins, with crew quarters in the stern for a staff of two. The full-beam master suite is spread across the full 6.35 metre beam.

Her raised pilothouse and extensive glazing ensure great views out in all directions, while an enclosed air conditioned wheelhouse provides the primary entertaining space on board, complete with a pop-up television.

Designed with blue-water cruising in mind, Cochise was fitted with a pair of 470hp John Deere engines that draw on an 18,350-litre fuel tank. When trimmed back to her cruising speed of ten knots, this yacht’s slender semi-displacement hull should deliver a globetrotting cruising range of 7,100 nautical miles.

Solar panelling on the roof of the wheelhouse helps to reduce the need to use the diesel-powered generator, further adding to this utilitarian yacht’s efficiency and eco credentials.

Other key features on board Cochise include a 7,380-litre water tank, NAIAD stabilisers, and a pair of aft deck cranes that allow her to carry two tenders.

Cochise is the first FPB 78 to hit the water and Circa Marine is already working on three further hulls, two of which have been sold to former FPB 64 owners.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

fpb 78 yacht price

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

fpb 78 yacht price

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

fpb 78 yacht price

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

fpb 78 yacht price

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

fpb 78 yacht price

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

fpb 78 yacht price

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

fpb 78 yacht price

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

The ultimate in explorer yachts, FPB 78 #1 COCHISE is for sale

January 6th, 2023

ultimate-explorer-yacht-fpb-78-cochise-1-main

Built for Steve and Linda Dashew, designers of the incredible FPB series, she is the first of three outstanding explorers who have cruised to most corners of our planet. Delivered in 2016, COCHISE’s maiden voyage was from Fiji to Panama – a distance of 7,000 nautical miles accomplished at an average speed of 10 knots against prevailing winds and currents. Her two sisters crossed the Pacific backwards before taking a family cruise in company to Antarctica.

ultimate-explorer-yacht-fpb-78-cochise-2

The FPB 78 was conceived and built to cross any ocean in safety and security, and to do so with a small crew. She can be handled by two, yet she has the volume and capability to carry crew and plentiful guests.

COCHISE has just completed a major refit at Berthon to prepare her for a world cruise that has sadly now been shelved. The refit cost was in excess of €1.5m and the result is epic.

Whilst every part of COCHISE has been serviced and updated the main parts of the refit are listed below and reflect her owners’ wish to cruise in comfort as a family with crew and enough room for guests. The intelligent use of modern technology was a key part of the refit brief, as well as the need to deliver the changes in a way that was sympathetic to her original styling:

  • Total rework of all navigational instrumentation in Furuno running on Time Zero and full upgrade of the Maretron system. She also now has important upgrades including a multi-beam sonar.

ultimate-explorer-yacht-fpb-78-cochise-3

  • New twin cabin forward of the Owners’ Stateroom with generous twin, upper and lower berths and an en-suite heads compartment and shower.

ultimate-explorer-yacht-fpb-78-cochise-4

  • New Crew Accommodation aft with a double berth, heads compartment with shower and Crew Mess. This also has access onto the swim step as well as two other exit points.

ultimate-explorer-yacht-fpb-78-cochise-5

  • Updated Matrix deck in FlexiTeek, with a new seating and dining area, wet bar, helm station and aft extension to provide a large alfresco seating area with bimini.

ultimate-explorer-yacht-fpb-78-cochise-6

  • Smart saloon table that moves to allow easy access to the seating around it.

ultimate-explorer-yacht-fpb-78-cochise-7

  • New Lithium Ion batteries and upgrade of all charging systems aboard the yacht.
  • Upgrade of the solar array.

There are many more improvements and upgrades made during this comprehensive refit. You can see a summary here: https://www.berthoninternational.com/yacht-for-sale-specs/fpb-78-cochise-refit-summary.pdf .

COCHISE is available for inspection at Berthon in the UK. She is European VAT paid but not UK VAT paid so she is stored in our Customs Warehouse
