2007 Cox 45 Pod Catamaran

  • Description

Seller's Description

If its adventure you are chasing at a very affordable price then Hurts So Good is the sailing catamaran for you. Extremely strongly built and in excellent condition. She is a very simple boat built on the philosophy of long, lean and quick. It is a podcat that has minimal simple accommodation. She would be ideal for a family that wants to adventure cruise with berths in hulls. Likewise, she would suit a group of racers who want a cheap fun boat. Equally a couple could cruise the South Pacific in adventure style. This sailing catamaran is a great boat for those on a budget for anyone wanting speed on the water.

Rig and Sails

Auxilary power, accomodations, calculations.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Classic hull speed formula:

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

  • SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
  • D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Ballast / Displacement * 100

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
  • LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
  • LOA: Length overall in feet
  • Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet

Capsize Screening Formula

This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.

CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)

SAILING RANGE

Power range, leopard 45 catamaran, sleek and nimble, yet comfortable.

Awarded Boat of the Year honours in 2017 and founded upon the ethos of continuous innovation and feedback from cruising clients, the Leopard 45 sailing catamaran represents astute value, elegant lines and satisfies blue water passion.

With naval architecture by Simonis & Voogd Yacht Design, and with exterior and interior design by the world-class design team at Robertson and Caine, the Leopard 45 Sailing Catamaran not only builds on the best features of the current Leopard range but most notably offers new exterior styling and enhanced interior accommodation.

Since the launch of the Leopard 45 in 2017, the exterior styling has evolved and includes the innovative flybridge lounge. This lounge feature first launched on the award-winning Leopard 50! Like her big sister, the lounge on the Leopard 45 includes a seating area, a sunbed, and a table. Access to the lounge is provided by floating stairs leading up from the aft cockpit, without disrupting the helm station. The helm station remains well protected, and integrated into the cockpit and the rest of the boat.

cox 45 catamaran

Available in a 3 or 4 cabin layout, the Leopard 45 offers the perfect entertainment package with increased aft area with new layout, the flybridge lounge, ergonomically designed open plan saloon and galley, larger forward cockpit, and more onboard area.

In summary, the Leopard 45 Sailing Catamaran delivers uncompromised, exceptional build quality throughout, new, sleek styling, a sensible and practical layout, sailing comfort across all sea states, and features innovative technologies and multiple entertainment areas.

At Robertson and Caine, we favour a clear, natural flow. The Leopard 45’s increased area, ergonomically designed open plan saloon and galley, increased forward cockpit and more onboard area make her the ideal catamaran for guest entertaining as well as long-range cruising.

Onboard entertaining is accentuated with ample dining space and forward-facing L shaped seating communicating directly with the galley, situated forward. Wide sliding saloon doors afford panoramic views towards the stern, allowing the interior saloon to flow naturally towards the outside aft and forward cockpit.

The boat is flooded with natural light during the day and after sunset, illuminated by subtle hidden lighting, with individual spotlights to highlight certain areas.

How much is a 45 foot catamaran? 5 Great Options.

cox 45 catamaran

Quick answer is $300,000 to $600,000. But you could also pay as much as $1 million for a fully loaded catamaran like La Vagabonde’s brand new Outremer 45 or as little as $150,000 for a late 1990’s Prout 45 or Leopard 45. These prices are all considering you are asking about a catamaran in reasonable condition and with appropriate cruising equipment. Project catamarans could end up costing much less initially although very likely much more eventually as typically you pay a premium in sailing for the “refit experience.” The upside is a long escape working in a boatyard that allows you to escape from your wife and children if that is your goal. We do not recommend the approach and this website while offering a wide selection of catamarans prefers to advertise that are in good condition at great prices to our visitors.

Another budget aspect to consider is maintenance costs of a 45 foot catamaran. Here the typical assessment is you spend 10% of a catamaran’s value yearly to keep her in good condition at a safe mooring and with proper reserves for depreciation costs.

We answer this question here because oddly the 45 foot number is a common online search and common question we receive. The number 45 has long history in sailing as in the old days of monohull sailboats, the ideal cruiser was thought of as a 45 foot center cockpit. Technology has evolved and proved that two hulls are superior to one yet the 45 feet in length is a sensible universal constant. The reason? Certainly a 45 foot catamaran features a dramatic increase in interior volume as compared to old technology. We suspect that the 45 foot ideal length is more determined by cruising speed and comfort in a wide variety of offshore conditions as well as the size at which length is not a limitation in terms of docking or maneuvering requiring additional crew.

To further provide specifics on your options for a 45 foot catamaran please see example models below.

1. Lagoon 450

cox 45 catamaran

The highest volume 45 foot model in production currently. New style design with large accommodations, wide beam, and tall mainsail. Comes in flybridge and sport version with different helm configurations. This design is an evolution of the Lagoon 440. Prices range from $400,000 to $700,000 from an old charter 2011 model to a brand new owner’s version. See our Lagoon 450 specifications and a list current example for sale.

2. Leopard 45

cox 45 catamaran

The classic Leopard 45 was built from 1997 to 2001 and should not be confused with the new version of the model by the same name. These are affordable ex charter catamarans with old school builds. Watch out for wet balsa coring like on any 20 year old cored hull catamaran. Prices range from $200,000 to $250,000. See our Leopard 45 page for more specifications and options currently for sale .

3. Prout 45

cox 45 catamaran

The Prout 45 model is the oldest fashioned model on this list and least expensive coming in at $150,000 to $250,000. These feature a cutter rig with two headsails and a very aftmost main mast. This headsail powered sailplan is very unusual for catamarans options at this size range. Please see our specifications for more information and for sale page for current examples for sale .

4. Outremer 45

cox 45 catamaran

Made famous by Outremer’s special sale of an example to La Vagabonde stars. While at a base price it may be $700,000 when fully outfitted this boat nears $1 million USD. Performance oriented design with daggerboards and outboard helms with tillers. With the pricing and performance focus, this is a less common design.

5. Privilege 45

cox 45 catamaran

Lying somewhere between the classic Prout 45 and middle aged Leopard 45, this older Privilege design ranges in price from $150,000 to $250,000. These were high end charter boats in their day with a very good reputation for build quality, performance, and interior fit / finish. See our Privilege specifications and examples for sale .

Leopard 45

Off on a charter vacation, friends want to party together, couples may seek out nooks of their own and families will cherish a place for the kids to romp while the folks enjoy their chill time. Some like to sunbathe, others prefer shade. The skipper could be an old salt or a recent grad of a learn-to-sail program who needs a hand pulling the strings. Some come for the sailing, others for the revelry. And no one, I repeat, no one wants to get stuck in the smallest cabin, with a shared head.

What’s a designer to do?

In the case of the new Leopard 45 catamaran, which made its North American debut last fall at the U.S. Sailboat Show in Annapolis, Maryland, naval architect Alex Simonis carefully considered the design brief put together by the single largest buyer of sailboats on the planet — the parent company of Sunsail, The Moorings and Leopard Catamarans brands — and then he stretched the design envelope to create what CW’s Boat of the Year judges named Best Charter Boat for 2017.

South Africa’s Robertson and Caine is the sole supplier of catamarans for Travelopia Marine, formerly TUI Marine. Charter versions of their boats (four heads, four cabins) are sold into The Moorings and Sunsail fleets worldwide. The remaining 45 percent of the company’s annual output goes to Leopard owners, who overwhelmingly opt for a three-cabin, three-head layout, with the owners suite occupying an entire hull.

The first things I noticed when I stepped aboard the 45 were the views. From the stern, you look through the entire boat, thanks to a wall of clear polycarbonate at the forward end of the saloon that includes a watertight doorway leading to a second cockpit on the foredeck. Overhead, you see plenty of sky through a large port in the coachroof; to either side, well, you guessed it, you’re surrounded by windows. In the cabins below, long ports in the hull and opening hatches overhead let the light — and sights — pour in too.

“They’ve really opened up the structure,” noted BOTY judge Tim Murphy when helping to choose a contest winner.

leopard 45

To do so, Simonis replaced fore and aft structural bulkheads on the bridgedeck with a latticework of fiberglass and stainless steel. This allowed him not only to replace solid panels with windows but also move the mast aft, creating a better-balanced sail plan. The payoff is improved performance and easier sailhandling.

Speaking of sailing, the Leopard scooted right along in 10 knots of breeze. We saw 6.1 knots closehauled and 7.7 knots when we bore off to a reach. The helmsman steers from a raised platform to starboard in the cockpit. There’s a bench there where a couple can sit comfortably, and thanks to a series of blocks and clutches, all sail control lines are led to a pair of electric winches on the cabin top, just forward of the wheel. Working sails consist of a square-top main and a slightly overlapping genoa. The Leopard version of the 45 that we sailed also carried a screecher set on a continuous-line furler tacked down on a sprit.

All of Robertson and Caine’s boats — current production also includes the Leopard 40, 48 and 58, along with related charter brands — have balsa-cored hulls and decks, with solid fiberglass anywhere hardware is mounted. The builder has begun to infuse smaller parts, so look for the use of that technology to expand. Hulls have fine entry points and are relatively narrow below the waterline for performance, then flare to provide room to roam in the cabins.

A fitted-out Leopard 45 sells for about $580,000, depending on options and toys. Ready to go, with charter kit, in The Moorings’ yacht-ownership program, the price is similar.

Summing up his dockside visit and our sea trials, Murphy noted, “The experience really is a beautiful thing, to be able to be in that aft space on a boat and see so much of the world. I think they’ve done a really nice job in 45 feet of providing different spaces.”

I agree wholeheartedly.

Leopard 45: Hard-top adds fresh appeal to this popular catamaran design

Yachting World

  • July 2, 2020

Not in itself a new boat (the Leopard 45 was launched in 2017), the example appearing this year will feature a new hard-top design

Drawn by Simonis Voogd and built by Robertson & Caine in South Africa, every Leopard cat gets put through its paces in the Southern Ocean before sailing on its own bottom from Cape Town to its new home, so you can be certain it is ready for bluewater sailing .

A charter favourite, the Leopard 45 has mirror-image dining inside and in the cockpit. Sliding windows and a foldaway door connect the two, and a long skylight runs nearly the whole length of the saloon.

Styling is in neutral tones, and there is the choice of three or four good-sized double cabins, plus a very cosy crew berth in the forepeak. This new version of the Leopard 45 has an extra window in the hull amidships, and upgraded cabinetry.

A well-designed bulkhead helm station keeps the skipper in touch with what’s going on in the cockpit and on that generous new flybridge, which runs to seating, sunpads and a low table. All the control lines are within easy reach, and ropes tidy nicely in a bin at your feet.

Genoa sheeting angles should be reasonable, while the option of a square-top main also helps upwind performance.

Leopard 45: A Comprehensive Review

The Leopard 45 is a great sized catamaran for cruisers, and is as popular as the rest of the Leopard range amongst charterers and liveaboard owners.

Leopard almost need no introduction. The South African boat builder has been producing catamarans for many years, and have a proven track record of building good quality production cats that are popular options for both the charter fleet and cruisers.

There are several good tours of this boat on YouTube, and so we are focussing our efforts on a review rather than a simple walkaround. As such, we have divided our analysis into five categories, each worth 10 points.

You, too, can score this boat based on your personal opinion- find out how to do so at the end of this post.

Safety and Design

This category looks at the safety and practical design of this Leopard 45. We consider the following factors:

  • Liferaft position
  • Helm position
  • Safety features
  • Practicality while on watch and underway

The locker which houses the liferaft lifts up and slides out, depositing the liferaft onto the aft deck. This was not a feature we were aware of at the time of filming, but have been since educated on- so apologies for not making mention of this in the video.

The helm position has good visibility, well connected to the cockpit with a hard top bimini overhead. The only issue was a lack of any kind of barrier between the helm position and the side deck, apart from an arm rest. We’d want a more robust and complete barrier for the purposes of safety on watch.

We were happy with the grab rails and attachment points, and the flush lockers and hatches on the decks make moving around quite safe.

We also have a question about how quickly the forward facing cockpit would drain in the event of large waves over the bows. (Leopard claim 45 seconds- but what happens if the swell period is 20 seconds?) There’s also a cover you can put over the forward cockpit that will prevent water from entering it to begin with- but this obscures your view from the inside navigation station (where, presumably, you’ll want to be if you’re in weather that’s rough enough to warrant the cover).

We’re scoring this boat a 7/10 for Safety and Design.

Build Quality

Let’s move on to the next category, which is build quality. We look at the following as part of our assessment:

  • Hull construction
  • Fittings and latches
  • Steering mechanism
  • Overall robustness

The steering mechanism was robust and the rudder stock was well braced. However, there was no self expanding foam in the conduits to reduce the chance of flooding in the event of water ingress or engine bay breach- with unskegged propellors and a sail drive, this is something that is a real possibility if you hit an underwater object with enough force.

The door to the forward facing cockpit was almost half an inch thick with a good rubber gasket and sturdy handles.

Inside the interior joinery was of good quality, although there’s room for improvement: the latches felt a little flimsier than on comparable models from other catamarans, and the drawer inserts were white melamine. The finish on some of the edges of the cabinetry was a little haphazard, although there were solid edgings on the high traffic areas. We believe that the veneers were alpi, rather than real wood (that’s what they appeared to be, but we’ve had no confirmation). We found the build quality to be above average, but not as high as we would have liked, and certainly not as high as older Leopards we’ve been on.

For build quality, we’re giving it a 6/10.

Interior Design

This category takes into account everything that makes a catamaran comfortable and pleasurable to live on. We look at:

  • Guest accommodation
  • Ventilation
  • Shower access
  • General layout and liveability

This is a big category, taking into account a lot of different aspects of living onboard.

One of Leopard’s signature features is the forward facing cockpit. Combined with the large aft cockpit, which has a big table and is well laid out, there’s plenty of seating options. The forward cockpit would be particularly pleasant at anchor where you would find it receives all the breeze, and would therefore likely be the most comfortable area to sit and relax. Certainly, it’s an incredibly popular feature and many other manufacturers are now incorporating a dedicated forward seating area into their designs.

Inside, the layout is a little different to most other production catamarans: the galley is situated forward, and the saloon aft. There’s also a forward facing navigation station, a feature that is occasionally forgotten about in modern catamarans but one we consider to be very important for keeping watch overnight (and during the day for that matter!).

The model we viewed does not have island berths in the aft cabins, although apparently this is changing for future builds. The interior aesthetic is light coloured veneer with grey bench-tops and accents, with plenty of natural sunlight and ventilation. Overall, it’s a lovely space.

Our score for Interior Design is 7/10.

Performance

  • Length: 13.72 metres
  • Draught: 1.5 metres
  • Weight: 14,500 kg

We couldn’t find a polar diagram for the 45, so here’s a polar for the 46; we can assume performance will be similar.

Maximum speed is 12-14 knots at 110 degrees, and she can’t point higher than 55 degrees.

We’re therefore awarding her a 4/10, like most other non-performance production catamarans we’ve so far reviewed.

Value For Money

Base price is €459,000 and fully specc’d to a high blue water cruising standard the price is more likely to be €559,000.

The value for money is average, and we’re awarding this category a 5/10.

Our total score is 29/50.

While we liked certain aspects of the Leopard 45, we know this isn’t the boat for us (a fact that seems to have created a bit of an outcry amongst ardent Leopard owners!). The forward facing cockpit is not to our liking; we’d quite like a forward facing seating area, but not a deep cockpit that could fill with water while underway in rough seas. We don’t expect to have to deal with that sort of weather often, but we know that there are a couple of long passages in our future that may be more to windward and also where the weather can be a little inclement (ie, the passages between the Pacific islands of Tonga and Fiji and New Zealand). However, we really like the older, pre 2011 Leopards, and have not ruled out that option if we end up buying from the used market.

Multihull of the year

15 of our favorite 35 to 45-foot catamarans

Rather well-canvassed and above all quite light, this catamaran is reputed to sail well.

Curvy and convivial, the saloon is adjacent to a functional galley.

Fast for its size, the 381 is also pleasant to sail. Top speeds of 20 knots are on the cards!

The nacelle’s low volume and the narrow hulls lend themselves more to a small crew.

The 380 takes up the broad outline of the 410, which came out three years earlier…but offers engines accessible via rear lockers rather than under the berths.

The nacelle and its large vertical portlights offer an uninterrupted view and excellent protection from the sun.

Certain owners report top speeds of over 18 knots. Seawinds are fast!

The nacelle is occupied by the saloon alone; as a result, there is no lack of space at aperitif time!

An unusual silhouette, especially head on… But the marked longitudinal steps in the hulls keep the waterline beam moderate, and offer good performance.

Small floor area in the nacelle, but welcome vertical portlights to limit the greenhouse effect.

Well-canvassed, the Lavezzi is capable of averaging 9 knots during ocean passages – if the trade winds are present.

The triangular saloon table and the offset companionways guarantee easy movement around the bridgedeck.

The steering positions offer a good view of the sail plan.

At the cost of less than fluid movement around the boat, nothing is lacking aboard, and you can spend long months on the water.

Maximum freeboard for comfort in the hulls, but a tall rig so you don’t get stuck in light airs.

The owner’s version which offers the happy skipper a full hull, with a large bathroom and desk, is our preference. The companionway can even be closed, to cut oneself off from the bridgedeck.

The first examples, equipped with a non-overlapping jib, deserve a ‘real’ genoa, to pep them up!

Rounded saloon and athwartships aft berths: the designer Olivier Flahault presents some appealing and functional innovations.

51 four-cabin models as opposed to 13 private owner’s versions: it’s not easy to find a three-cabin boat!

All the Leopard 43’s berths are arranged athwartships.

Two innovations on deck: the builder has provided a forward cockpit and a raised steering position.

The vertical portlights provide an exceptional view of the sea, light and no greenhouse effect. At the price of debatable aerodynamics.

Thanks to its double 'steps', the Leopard 44 succeeds in keeping the hulls quite slim at the waterline.

With 2.12 m of headroom, the saloon is comfortable. And there is no lack of light, thanks to its generous portlights.

The sail plan, with its mast positioned well forward, clearly favors the mainsail.

The U-shaped galley inherited from monohulls is appealing in use: you are perfectly secure when the sea is rough.

Marc Lombard took great care to design rather slim hulls. A good point for performance.

Inside, we find once again the Privilege finishing quality and the very special atmosphere aboard these catamarans built for demanding owners.

This 45 is certainly a particularly fast catamaran, but it is also very safe in heavy weather.

The compact nacelle reduces the liveable volume. Ideal for lightening the boat and offering more trampoline area.

Second-hand is of course cheaper…and is often the opportunity to sail aboard a multihull which is ready to set off (again). From 35 to 45 feet, the budgets remain moderate, with some good opportunities. We have chosen for you 15 of the most well-known 35 to 45-foot boats, which will therefore be easy to re-sell when you return – if you choose to return one day…

Athena 38 Best seller in the under 40-foot category

cox 45 catamaran

In 1994, the Athena 38 came in between the Tobago 35 and the Venezia 42, two boats whose design it echoed – rounded lines, pug-nosed bows and a coachroof extension. Although it remains relatively lightweight, it is slower than the builder’s previous models. Its hulls are in fact appreciably beamier, and the freeboard is higher. It is thus perfectly suited to a long cruise in the West Indies or the Mediterranean, as a couple or a family. On the other hand, during long passages, it is a little lacking in length for a smooth passage through the sea. Nevertheless, its load-carrying capacity is appreciable for a catamaran of less than 40'. Pleasant under sail, easy to handle, this model quickly became a great commercial success – for both charter companies and private individuals – to such a point that it remained in its builder’s catalogue for almost 10 years. In 1998, the Athena was improved: we enjoyed a better view forward, thanks to a new steering position, directly inspired by the one on the Bahia 46. A solid platform was also provided, aft of the mainsheet track. This model’s strong points: great comfort, despite its modest size, easy movement both on deck and inside, and a particularly successful rounded saloon. The finishing on this model is clearly improved, compared to previous generations; just a few glued headlinings can be noticed here and there.

The plusses: very liveable catamaran for its size, good performance, very pleasant bridgedeck

The minuses: Not comfortable to windward in big seas, tiny hull portlights, small chart table

Most of the boats are still in good overall condition. To be checked: sails, engines, electric circuit, standing and running rigging. For those who wish to set off, check the following points: forestay and gooseneck fixing points, and steering cables.

Outremer 45 catamaran.

Outremer strives to build fast-cruising catamarans while also not compromising on safety and comfort. First launched in 2015 and still in production, Outremer 45 is designed for sustained offshore cruising for extended periods of time – much like its predecessors Outremer 51 and Outremer 5X .

Table of Contents

DESIGN – INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR

The Outremer 45 is a product of architecture by Barreau-Neuman, style by Partick Le Quement and interior design by Darnet Design. Outremer offers different options to the owners to truly customize the look of the interior according to their wishes. One such option is teak wood finishing, which gives Outremer 45 a gorgeous look.

The cockpit of the Outremer 45 is accessed via two big steps and built asymmetrically. It is wide and spacious and protected by a rigid bimini and canvases stretched to each of its sides. It comes with a built-in table and L-shaped bench, which, along with an opposing bench, can comfortably accommodate up to 8 people. The cockpit table is convertible and can be transformed into a berth if needed. The seats also have storage lockers underneath them. The cockpit is at level with the saloon and is accessed via a sliding glass door. The galley has access directly into the cockpit, so serving food and drinks is easy and efficient.

To aft is a single, raised helm station on the coachroof, which is accessed via three steps. It has a wheel to port and is complete with the engine control and mainsail halyard. All the lines for the mainsail and self-tacking jib are controlled from the helm, allowing shorthand sailing. The visibility from the helm station is excellent, and all four corners of the catamaran can be seen from the station, which allows for safe maneuvering. Outremer 45 also offers carbon-fiber tiller and a space-pod chair to experience steering of a different kind.

The side decks of Outremer 45 are wide and well-protected by grab rails and toe rails. The Outremer 45 also features daggerboards that optimize its performance for better upwind and downwind sailing. The lockers along the side decks are deep and spacious enough to not only store all the sails and ropes but any other equipment such as kayaks that a family might want to carry along.

The foredeck is long yet narrow and has no seating available, with space was taken over by two long trampolines. This allows the catamaran to cut back on its weight and offers exceptional hydro-dynamic performance – something also achieved by placing the bow length forward of the mast.

Movement from the cockpit to saloon and vice versa is easy and smooth. Inside the saloon, the large slanting windows give a complete 350-degree view of the world outside. This, along with multiple opening hatches and portholes inside the saloon, also makes the saloon bright and well-ventilated.

The settee, facing aft, is comfortable and large and is compounded by an additional bench stowed away under the table. Altogether, up to 8 people can be seated inside the saloon around the built-in table. The table can also telescopes down to become a berth.

The galley on the Outremer 45 is L-shaped and ergonomic. It is also stylish, with a sleek countertop and stainless steel sink. It offers a 3-burner stove, which is rather compact, and also has a refrigerator on the opposite side. The galley also features ample space for storage in the form of a pantry with sliding drawers.

The navigation station faces forward and takes advantage of the panoramic view offered by the windows to provide a great view while on watch. The station itself is well-equipped, and the desk is spacious enough for charts or a laptop to be placed.

  ACCOMMODATIONS

The Outremer 45 offers two different versions – a 3-cabin layout with the entire starboard dedicated to the owner and a 4-cabin layout, which has an additional cabin in the starboard hull.

The owner’s version has a large 1.6 x 2.0 meters double berth in the cabin but no access around the berth. There is storage and wardrobe space to the side, and the cabin is secured with a sliding door. The corridor beyond has ample storage space in the form of cupboards and shelves. The forward section has a large bathroom and a separate shower. The cabin has good air circulation and is also bright with a lot of light filtering through its many windows.

There are two cabins to port in the guest hull with the aft cabin symmetrical to the owner’s cabin. The key feature of the aft cabin is the large, fixed, rectangular porthole, which gives a great view of the outside. The forward cabin is slightly smaller than the aft cabin and has a smaller berth. The shared bathroom in the corridor is compact yet functional with a sink, head, and shower.

ENGINE ROOMS

Outremer 45 is powered by two Volvo 30 HP diesel engines that can acquire a top speed of 8.5 knots. The engines are accessible from outside, through a deck hatch located on the transom.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

The overall length of Outremer 45 is 14.62 meters while the draft is 2.15 meters. The maximum beam of 45 is 7.1 meters, and a maximum displacement is 11,100 kg.

PRICE RANGE

The price of Outremer 45 ranges from $700,000 to $750,000.

In conclusion, Outremer 45 is an above-average Outremer built with a focus on improved performance and increased speed. It is sturdy and durable yet also easy to manage with a small crew, making it ideal for a family seeking to take multiple trips around the world.

Changing jobs at midlife is good for your career – and your salary.

Career Change May Be Good For You

Thinking of hanging on in your current job until retirement? Think again. New research from the OECD, presented at a recent conference in Paris, strongly suggests that change is good for you – across multiple dimensions: your work, wealth and wellness. The report, done with the support of America’s AARP , is titled Promoting Better Career Choices for Longer Working Lives – Stepping Up Not Stepping Out . It is the third in a series of deep dives into how longevity is impacting work across all 38 OECD countries . The conference showcased the report’s finding on how countries, companies and individuals are adapting to the new longevity’s impact on the future of work.

New Research on Midlife Job Mobility

Workers aged 45 to 64 already constitute a massive 41% of the 2022 OECD workforce, up from 29% in 1990. As younger populations shrink, employers may want to rethink their job recruitment and retention strategies to manage this new generational balance. As individuals stay longer in the workforce, they’ll want to revisit their career planning – and adjust it for longer lives. The 2022 AARP Global Employee Survey revealed that fully half the 45+ workforce was hoping to change jobs with three years. Will companies help or hinder them?

Squiggly Careers Win

The research is promising for the restless, the radical and the newly redundant. Many traditional definitions of success include stability, mastery and linear continuity. The corporate world and its career management systems are built around the ‘ladder’ – an up-or-out vertical climb towards more (power, people, P&L).

MidCareer Mobility Supports Career Longevity

The data gathered by the OECD seems instead to point towards an emerging, longer-living world that rewards disruption, redefinition and mobility. Discontinuity is becoming an opportunity for growth. “Workers who changed jobs mid-career are significantly more likely to be employed at age 60,” says Shruti Singh, the OECD Senior Economist heading up the research. “Older workers who change job voluntarily tend to have wage increases, compared to those who don’t - or are forced to switch jobs.”

It's also essential for the economy. “Effective career mobility is crucial for boosting labour market responsiveness to economic changes and for improved productivity,” notes the report.

Apple s Surprise Update Just Made iPhone More Like Samsung

Wwe raw results, winners and grades on march 18, 2024, mgm denies viral report claiming bruno mars has serious casino debt, mobility as the new sustainability.

Shruti Singh, Senior Economist, OECD

Too bad most of us don’t know that mobility helps employability. Most Q3 (age 50+) workers aren’t (yet) moving. Only 6% of workers aged 55-64 change jobs in any given year across OECD countries. That’s about half the 11% of their younger colleagues, aged 25-44. The majority of those who move benefit - both in terms of work flexibility and mental health.

Many workers may yearn for change – but can’t overcome the numerous existing obstacles in their way. Across OECD countries, job mobility has increased - but only by 1.5% between 2012 and 2020. The report lists the multiplicity of hurdles job-changers face: age, location, health, care responsibilities, motherhood penalties, technological change, inflexible jobs, ageism… In addition, adding insult to injury, older workers are less likely to have age-friendly jobs.

No wonder confidence becomes a major issue in facing the very idea of change. “For many older workers with less-than-ideal working conditions,” notes the OECD, “changing occupations can seem so daunting that some do not begin their job search at all.” Conference panelist Richard Alderson, CEO of Careershifters , confirmed that despite all the considerable external obstacles, some of the biggest obstacles were in fact internal ones. So that for many, what they mostly require to move is support and community.

Addressing these barriers is key to unleashing the potential of a massive and growing segment of the population – the older. Which should be of interest to both companies and governments facing the growing skill shortages characterising ageing societies that don’t adapt.

A Multitude of Obstacles

Making Moving Easier – What Companies Can Do

Currently, job mobility falls rapidly with age. Under age 30, 17% of workers change jobs annually. That drops to around 7% by age 45. But if moving contributes to better outcomes for individuals, how do companies and governments make mobility more seamless? Especially for later career shifts? Individuals may be a bit readier to change than employers.

Small signals from employers who are open to older employees’ mobility have a powerful impact, noted Helen Tupper, CEO of Amazing If , during a conference panel. “Our research shows that simply by putting a note at the top of an internal job posting that this position is ‘open to employee mobility’ improved the application rate by 30%.” However, she warned, this didn’t yet translate into improved appointments. Ageism is the current default context in most companies, so hiring managers need to be prepared and trained for more age-neutral mobility and staffing decisions. Getting managers (of all ages) skilled at working across generations is the parallel condition to getting individuals moving.

The Ageism Challenge in Data

A corporate panel highlighted two CEOs, Patrice Segui from BNP Paribas Portugal and Laurent Bataille of Schneider Electric France , who were rolling out measures to proactively invest in the retention and development of their 50+ employees. From midlife career reviews and conversations to special training programmes and upskilling opportunities. Bataille said Schneider Electric launched its Future Ready programme back in 2021 after they discovered a significant engagement gap among their Q3 employees. Further research underlined a diversity of profiles in this age group, which they segmented into four: ‘Continue, Pivot, Retire and Accelerate.’ Then, he noted, the crucial management follow-up is good conversations with individuals on their next decade’s career plans.

The easiest form of mobility, notes the report, is the in-company kind. But the OECD calls out the “implicit or explicit ageist attitudes that undermine the fluidity” of older workers’ shifts and suggests a broad range of measures to encourage more of them. It also warns that the growing use of AI in recruiting and assessment risks embedding existing age biases into future talent management. This takes conscious weeding out.

The Promoting Better Career Choices Report shares many successful experiments and case studies of companies that are learning how to better attract, retain and develop Q3 talent. These include:

  • Identify better skill matches for Q3 workers within the organisation
  • Help Q3 workers plan for career transitions
  • Attract Q3 workers with remote work
  • Mitigate the motherhood penalty with policies proactively improving career mobility for women
  • Keep Q3 workers flexibly engaged with consulting and independent contracts to offer a smoother, lengthier transition towards retirement
  • Support Q3 workers to redesign their roles with job crafting initiatives
  • Rethink and redesign seniority-based wages and tenure-pay policies

The report’s wealth of examples and tools builds on the prior report, The Midcareer Opportunity, Meeting the Challenges of an Ageing Workforce , and both are essential reading for all leaders who’ve realised that their workforce is balancing across ages and generations.

How Governments Get Longevity-Ready

The final panel of the day featured three of the world’s oldest countries – Japan, Italy and Austria. Their ambassadors shared the increasing priority that longevity was getting on their national planning agenda, and the myriad policies starting to surface. Japan has become the world’s longevity policy laboratory, as its population ageing has led the world trend, but Italy is catching up fast.

Japan created its Society 5.0 concept in 2016 to design a super-intelligent, AI-powered approach to its generationally balanced reality. It is embedding information technologies, big data, industrial design, automation and AI to mainstream longevity needs across all infrastructure and services.

The report proposes a list of concrete suggestions for how governments can encourage and support mobility, with case studies from experiences in different countries. Because all countries in the world are now ageing, and sooner or later will face the same challenges. It’s easier if you prepare ahead. Adaptations include:

  • Greater use of apprenticeships and work experience programmes
  • Recognising Q3 workers’ skills and experience
  • Supporting transitions out of arduous or hazardous jobs
  • Facilitating geographic mobility
  • Alleviating institutional and regulatory barriers, like occupational licensing
  • Addressing barriers to entrepreneurship
  • Reviewing financial incentives to leaving the labour market

The report makes a powerful case to bundle three key 21 st century shifts together in our future of work planning: “the green transition, the digital revolution and rising longevity are the main global trends transforming traditional career paths and influencing a shift towards more fluid and diverse career trajectories.” Our future will be green, digital and older.

For the moment, conversations and policies about career mobility, learning and promotion often focus on younger workers. This needs to change - preferably before your workforce ages too much. “Designing sustainable mobility for longer careers calls for expanding our lens to include a whole-of-life-course perspective, starting early” recommends Shruti. And for countries and companies to support us all in (re)building confidence and competence throughout our lengthening lives and careers.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported

B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.

Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.

Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.

Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.

Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.

The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.

Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."

More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.

Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.

The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."

The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.

On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.

The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.

There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.

RADWIN's 'Train-to-Ground' WiFi Service Powers 45 Terabytes of Daily Downloads for Moscow Metro

RADWIN, the leading provider of train-to-ground wireless communications solutions, has announced the completion of the onboard Wi-Fi deployment for the Moscow Metro. RADWIN’s  FiberinMotion® train-to-ground solution  was chosen by MaximaTelecom - the system integrator and service provider - to deliver high-speed Wi-Fi services onboard the metro service.

According to a statement by RADWIN, Moscow Metro serves over 9 million passengers daily and its Wi-Fi services are provided onboard its 650 trains and 5000 cars along 600 KM or 400 miles of tracks. The train-to-ground Wi-Fi solution, says RADWIN, delivers speeds of 90 Mbps per each train.

Boris Volpe, CEO, MaximaTelecom   We chose RADWIN’s train-to-ground solution because it delivers the optimal combination of high capacity and extensive coverage, significantly reducing the amount of infrastructure required in the tunnels. This ambitious project was completed in just 14 months. Today Moscow Metro passengers download over 45 Terabytes per day, with aggregated capacity continuously on the rise.

Nir Hayzler, VP, Marketing, RADWIN Our FiberinMotion® solution is in various stages of deployments worldwide, and we have also concluded successful trials with leading public transport operators in North America, Asia Pacific, Latin America and Europe. Providing broadband Wi-Fi onboard trains and metros poses unique challenges, which requires advanced technology as well as an in-depth understanding of the transportation industry’s requirements. Our solution provides the highest capacity in the industry combined with an advanced air-interface, management tools and expert services. This allows us to exactly fulfill public transport operators’ requirements for high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity for trains and metros.
