NASCAR Brickyard 400 winners through the years

2025 Porsche Macan EV price drops with new RWD model

• The electric Porsche Macan lineup expands for 2025
• Base model Porsche Macan EVs are now rear-wheel drive, and a Macan 4S trim arrives as well
• The 2025 Porsche Macan EV costs $77,295

A redesigned 2024 Porsche Macan powered solely by batteries went on sale earlier this year, but the only models available were the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo.

Porsche on Tuesday expanded the lineup for the 2025 model year with two more models, one of which is a new base Macan with rear-wheel drive which  costs $77,295 , including a $1,995 destination charge.

The cheapest electric Macan for the 2024 model year is the Macan 4 which retails for $80,450, including destination.

The second model added for 2025 is a Macan 4S which starts at $86,895, including destination. It's a slightly sportier alternative to the Macan 4 and like that model also comes with all-wheel drive.

2025 Porsche Macan 4S

The new base Macan features a single motor at the rear axle, rated at a maximum 335 hp. Its arrival marks the first time that a Macan has only two of its wheels driven. The vehicle is still brisk, requiring just 5.4 seconds to reach 60 mph from rest and topping out at 136 mph.

The battery is the same 100-kwh unit fitted to all other electric Macans. Porsche hasn't mentioned any range figures but the new base Macan should be the range king. By dropping its front motor, it weighs 243 pounds less than the Macan 4. EPA estimates for the electric Macan haven't been published but Porsche has previously suggested the Macan 4 is expected to deliver a range of around 300 miles .

The new Macan 4S features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain rated at a maximum 509 hp, or enough for 0-60 mph acceleration in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 149 mph. The Macan 4S also comes with a traction control system that can vary torque between the front and rear axles around five times faster than a conventional all-wheel-drive system, helping to improve stability.

Both Macan models get air springs with adaptive dampers as standard, and can be enhanced with available rear-wheel steering. Porsche's brake-based Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus system is available for the Macan 4S.

New color and wheel options have also been added for 2025, as well as a new off-road design package that can be added to all Macan models. The off-road pack adds a new front end that improves the approach angle by up to 17.5 degrees, depending on the model. It also adds a unique set of 21-inch wheels. Ground clearance is slightly higher, increasing by 0.4 inch to 7.6 inches in the normal setting and topping out at 8.8 inches. The off-road pack's front end can be added as a standalone option on the Macan, Macan 4, and Macan 4S models.

The 2025 Macan range is available to order and first deliveries are scheduled for the fourth quarter of the year. The previous-generation gas-powered Macan is still available. Its production will finally cease sometime in 2026, Porsche confirmed earlier this month.

Spy photos: Ford testing heavier-duty F-150 Lightning EV with hub motors?

And ford is benchmarking a tesla cybertruck.

Spy photographers have given us our first look at a new set of Ford F-150 test mules being put through their paces alongside a Tesla Cybertruck . While it makes sense for Ford to test its all-electric pickup against the latest competition, we're far more interested in how this truck is decked out than we are in its competitive intentions. Why? Well, these could be the first Ford prototypes on the road with in-wheel (AKA hub) motors, which could be a big step forward both for the F-150 and for hub motor tech itself, which has enjoyed a rather long gestation period due to its inherent drawbacks . But let's get to the pics. 

The above is our critical view. With the wheel covers removed, two things become obvious. First, this is an eight-lug wheel, which is not something you normally see on a light duty pickup. And second, there's no brake caliper. Normally, that wouldn't raise flags with us. Eight-lug wheels are ubiquitous on Ford's Super Duties and drum brakes are still favored for rear axles in some applications due to their long service lives. That could indeed be some sort of prototype brake drum behind the wheel, but drum brakes are no longer standard equipment even on Super Duty (F-250, F-350 and F-450) models, and Lightning has come equipped with four-wheel disc brakes since day one. Whatever this is, it's not a parts-bin pull from a current truck. But wait, there's more!

Noe the underbody brush camo in the above left shot; that's a sign that Ford would rather we not see what's happening under there. We can see green cabling (the same that is visible in the bed in other photos) leading to the wheel well here. That could mean nothing at all, or it could be a temporary run to power the wheel-mounted hubs. And in the above right photo, we see that this particular mule is carrying a payload. Now, a Ford engineer could write just about anything on one of those for whatever reason, but the load in the bed appears to be marked "2,666." If that's the weight in pounds, it's more than the maximum payload capacity of a current Lightning (2,235 pounds) with the standard battery . 

Certainly, nothing here is definitive, and automakers use mules to test all sorts of things, many of which never live to see production. But with other automakers inching closer to production of hub-motor EVs , this one deserves some attention. Stay tuned.

The first question any NASCAR enthusiast will ask you when you meet is, “Who’s your favorite driver?”, a query that immediately defines your level of fandom. After a weekend at Nashville Superspeedway, where I got an in depth look at the world of motorsports, I’m convinced that NASCAR devotees have the best fan experience of any other sport. From pre-race festivities like garage, Pit Row, and infield tours to the Driver’s Meeting that takes place right before the big event, racing buffs have the ability to get up-close and personal encounters with, you’ve guessed it, their favorite driver. How many football or basketball fans get to see the locker room right before a game or watch their favorite players warm up behind-the-scenes?

All of this is to say that NASCAR events offers something different, something that brings people of all ages together. From the Fan Zone walkaround to the Xfininty Race to the Ally 400 NASCAR Cup Series Race, I met many interesting folks at Nashville Superspeedway , and the sentiment was the same: community is king.

Part of what creates a solid sense of belonging is the camping experience. At Speedway Motorsports events, vacationers can not only watch top-notch racing, but also, take part in THOR-hosted camper appreciation events, parties, and giveaways. Campers are able to connect with one another and build relationships, which encourages repeat experiences.

One thing many RV-goers might not realize is that THOR also helps with RV maintenance and repairs should something go wrong. Creating a safe environment where campers feel well cared for is a top priority. “Women have scheduled a service, which is free, and asked maintenance to not tell their husbands,” says Renee Jones, VP of Marketing, THOR Industries. “We’re building a sense of community with what we’re offering.”

Back at the campsite, after a day of exciting events, a man walks around with a shirtless baby, nodding and smiling at other campers. Older kids ride bikes and music is playing out of speakers nearby. Flags of competing heights adorn the tops of many RV rigs. A family sits in a blow-up swimming pool, trying to cool off in the Tennessee summer heat. There’s an RV with homemade scaffolding and wooden planks, making it easy to see inside the speedway. “We live 15 minutes from here, but we love coming here to camp and be together,” says one vacationer.

After a delightful dinner prepared by Chef Skylar Bush , and live music from THOR Ambassador, John King , I open the door of my Jayco Redhawk, my home-away-from-home for the night. I’m staying with a dear loved one who is the most devoted NASCAR fan I know. “I can’t believe I’m here,” she says. The feeling is shared, profound even. It’s more than just a weekend away, it’s a chance to build upon our relationship. It’s the sentiment that creates loyal fans and campers, culture and community.
