The classic 36.91 metre motor yacht  Fair Lady  has been sold with both buyer and seller represented by Chris Cecil-Wright at Cecil Wright & Partners.

Built with a steel hull and teak superstructure by British yard Camper & Nicholsons to a design by Charles E Nicholson, she was delivered in 1928 and was rebuilt by Pendennis in 1996 and further refitted in 2006 and 2013. A new interior in classic pear wood by John Munford was installed during the refit, accommodating eight guests in five cabins consisting of a master suite with a private office, a VIP suite, a double and two singles, all with bathroom facilities. In addition, there are quarters for six crew.

Original features include the 1920s ship's wheel and brass binnacle which sit alongside the latest state-of-the-art navigational equipment in the wheelhouse. The traditional mahogany-panelled dining room was designed for formal dinners, while the lounge area with comfortable seating, art nouveau furniture and the very latest audio/visual systems makes this the ideal space for sheer relaxation.

Boat of the Week: This Vintage Superyacht Blends Classic 1920s Design With Modern Tech

'fair lady' has been meticulously restored to look like a 1920s art nouveau showpiece, but without sacrificing modern comforts., julia zaltzman, julia zaltzman's most recent stories.

Fair Lady

For Jonathan Turner, owner of the authentic 1920s yacht Fair Lady , the marriage of classic design with modern technology is a match made in heaven. The 121-footer, built and launched by Camper & Nicholsons in 1928, bears all the hallmarks of the fabulous flapper era, but remains a yacht designed for adventure, owned by a man intent on finding one.

The exterior is by Charles E. Nicholson, one of the most famous names in yacht design in the early years of the last century, while the interior comes from the drawing boards of modern yacht designer John Munford. This unlikely dream-team of two designers separated by a century has resulted in a unique yacht. Fair Lady ’s mahogany-paneled walls and Art Nouveau furniture ooze original character, while the contemporary adaptations provide every modern comfort on board. The 1920s ship’s wheel and brass binnacle, for example, sit alongside the very latest electronics and navigational equipment in the wheelhouse.

The card room on the main deck retains the original pearwood detailing and the “chairs are the same as when it was built,” says Turner. “We know that because we’ve got the original photos.”

The 121-foot yacht has been refitted to retain its 1920s Art Nouveau charm without compromising modern comforts.  Burgess

What began as a whimsical purchase of a Triumph TR3 over 20 years ago for Turner has grown into a passion for “old things.” Fair Lady is his first yacht, and she is part of Turner’s sweeping collection of vintage cars and motor memorabilia, including an XK140 Jaguar and eight vintage Bentleys, one of which he drove in the Monte Carlo Rally. He’s also raced the Orient Express across Europe (and won), completed the Peking to Paris Rally twice, and says his first experience of the Peking endurance race dramatically changed his life.

“We were the first people to drive through Iran since the fall of the Shah in 1977, and the first non-Chinese citizens ever to have Chinese driving licenses–all of this in a 1928 Bentley,” says Turner. “That car has been part of my life for 20-plus years. I realized then at the age of 30 that you can go anywhere in the world with old machinery that everybody else thinks is going to break down and have a phenomenal adventure.”

Since undergoing a significant refit at Pendennis in 2006, Fair Lady has had several return trips to the U.K. shipyard for maintenance. “It costs a fortune every year to get the timber varnished,” Turner says. “It’d be so easy to cut costs and paint it, but that’s not what you do with antique furniture. I love old furniture, it’s got character and was built properly. Fair Lady is basically an Edwardian house on the water.”

Fair Lady

Some of the equipment like this brass telegraph is original, but just about everything else has been modernized, with a period-correct overlay to hide the latest technologies.  Burgess

A sheltered alcove on the sundeck makes a popular spot for breakfast. The expansive sunpad and wooden sun loungers aft catch the sun, and on the main deck a chic Parisian bench bends around the stern. Each of the guest cabins have vintage 1920s telephones that have been converted to plug into a modern socket. An old-fashioned radio has been reconditioned to hold an MP3 player. “Everything on board–the doors, the handrails, the master cabin–is the same as when it was built,” says Turner. “I don’t want anybody to go on that boat, with all its charm and beauty, and see anything modern.”

Along with Turner’s appreciation for authenticity is his palpable sense of fun. “I bought a yacht with a funnel and a horn that properly honks because it’s really cool,” he says.

For those looking to share in the adventure, a seven-day charter itinerary along the Scottish coastline could be just the ticket. Fair Lady will sail via the Inner Hebrides, the Treshnish Isles, all the way up to the Talisker whisky distillery in Stein, before returning by Loch Drumbuie, one of the best yachting anchorages in Scotland. Turner’s private Cessna 208 seaplane and private estate on the shores of Loch Sunart can be included in the trip.

Fair Lady

Now located in Scotland, Fair Lady offers a retro lifestyle in some of Britain’s most charming cruising grounds.  Burgess

“I don’t spend as much time on board as I’d like, but hopefully this year with Fair Lady being in Scotland, that will change. What I really want to do is get 12 friends together and have some fun on board. When I’m racing my cars I’m by myself, and that’s a bit selfish, whereas when you’ve got a sociable boat like Fair Lady, then you can really enjoy yourself.”

Fair Lady is available to charter through Burgess from $73,000 a week. Here are some other shots of this very classic lady.

The 121-footer had an extensive refit in 2006 to bring it back to her former glory. She returns each year to Pendennis to have all mahogany revarnished.  Burgess

Construction

FAIR LADY is a twin screw, steel hulled motor yacht built in 1928 by Camper & Nicholsons of Gosport. Her engines are Klechner Humbeldt Deutz AG, 313 kw. FAIR LADY was launched 15th August 1927 at Southampton. Ownership of FAIR LADY passed from Monsieur Sultzbach to his fellow French yacht Club member Otto Bemberg a decade later. During the war, it's rumoured that her owner and Basque crew used her to ferry refugees from Nazi terror to South America. But the log books of the war period have gone missing! Monsieur Bemberg has FAIR LADY re-engined and partially refitted by Camper & Nicholson in the 1950s. Two years after his death in 1982, she was passed into the hands of her then British owner in 1994.

Update, January 2024: FAIR LADY was bought by a new owner in 2021 and underwent a full refit by Royal Huisman, Zaandaam, The Netherlands.

My Fair Lady sold by The Sacks Group

By superyachts.com

Motor yacht My Fair Lady has been sold by The Sacks Group but is set to join the company's charter fleet with a new name and a fresh look.

The sale of the luxury vessel was brokered by The Sacks Group Managing Director Bruce Schattenburg while the central listing broker was Cromwell Littlejohn of Merle Wood & Associates.

Schattenburg said the refitted Pixel would make an “ideal charter yacht”.

“With the new owner’s plans to refit and upgrade her, to hire a seasoned professional charter crew, and to work with The Sacks Group on implementing an aggressive marketing campaign, we anticipate PIXEL will be a highly successful charter operation.” Schattenburg said.

Pixel has four staterooms and will make her charter debut this winter in the Caribbean.

The Sacks Group Yachting Professionals (TSGYP) is based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA, and aim to cater to the four yachting pillars of New Construction, Yacht Brokerage, Charter Marketing, and Luxury Yacht Vacations. The company is best known for its exclusive Try Before You Buy Program; allowing clients to experience first-hand the size and type of yacht they are interested in prior to purchase.

The elegant FAIR LADY is available for charter

Published 02 September 2019

Elegance, style and space are the characteristic features of classic motor yacht FAIR LADY, and it’s these hallmarks which make her an unforgettable charter option. Simply stepping on board this distinguished vessel takes you back to an earlier, simpler time.

FAIR LADY is equipped with beautiful deck space

FAIR LADY is equipped with beautiful deck space

With availability throughout September, she’s an ideal option to watch the classic yacht regattas in the South of France such as Monaco Classic Week, Régates Royale Cannes and Les Voiles de St Tropez.

FAIR LADY is sure to cut a stylish profile wherever she goes. Originally delivered in 1928, her refined original features have been restored and improved, combining the original facilities, custom wooden elements and art deco fittings with the ease of modern convenience.

FAIR LADY - The yacht is complete with original features from the 1920s

Camper & Nicholsons launched the yacht in Southampton and she was one of the biggest achievements of designer C.E. Nicholson’s career. A rich history followed, with rumours of her ferrying refugees to South America and safety during the war. As her war log books are lost to history, we will never know for sure.

Stunning traditional features include the original ship’s wheel and brass binnacle, portholes that make you feel as though you’re peering into another time and mahogany and pear wood detailing and furniture. This stands alongside the very latest technology and communications equipment, creating an atmosphere of tranquil comfort.

FAIR LADY - Her stunning heritage is evident everywhere

FAIR LADY’s interiors are elegant yet cosy, with an art nouveau flair. The main deck holds a card room just begging for a round of poker to be played on its authentic furniture. The formal dining room echoes with the conversations of yesteryear – you can almost hear the Roaring Twenties cocktail glasses chinking.

The flawless deck space is generous, with plenty of space for sunning oneself on the traditional wooden sun loungers and dining leisurely in the sheltered nook on the sun deck while taking in the view.

FAIR LADY's cabins are cosy and well-appointed

Accommodating eight guests, the cabins are cosy and comfortable. The full beam master cabin has an en suite bathroom, dignified bureau and sofas beneath the two portholes to port and starboard. Two aft cabins, one twin and one double, have en suite bathrooms and are charmingly self-contained with tasteful decoration. Two single cabins, located forward, have their own basins and share a large bathroom. Tradition is maintained throughout.

A chic, elegant example of luxury yachts of previous times, FAIR LADY is the perfect option for those who appreciate history and want to enjoy an experience that can’t be found elsewhere.

classic charter yacht fair lady

Captain Q&A: What it's like to charter classic superyacht Fair Lady

The Dublin-born captain of 36.9 metre superyacht Fair Lady , who has been at her helm since 2008, tells us what it's like to charter this classic as she heads to the rugged coasts of Scotland for her summer cruising season

What are the best parts about being a captain on board a classic superyacht? And what are some of the challenges?

"Fair Lady, first delivered in 1928, has been sympathetically maintained and refitted over the years and she still has a real feel of authenticity. I never tire of the compliments we receive at anchor or in harbour even when surrounded by much larger vessels. The main challenge is she is a constant labour of love!

What makes Fair Lady the perfect charter yacht?

Despite Fair Lady ’s relatively modest size by today’s standards she boasts three separate interior communal areas with a main saloon, dining saloon and a card room. There is also a well sheltered upperdeck alcove and lounging area and the main deck features an aft seating dining area. This layout not only provides enough space for being together but also an escape for those quieter private moments.

Fair Lady will be cruising in Scotland this summer. What will her itinerary look like?

We will be predominantly based out of Oban on the west coast which gives easy access to the Inner and Outer Hebrides and Skye. Itineraries are mainly focused on quiet, picturesque anchorages interspersed with excellent wildlife viewing, visits to historic sites, houses, gardens and distilleries as well as outdoor activities such as hiking and golf. Stop-offs will include sports like Iona, Fingal's Cave, Islay Distilleries, hikes on Jura and Skye or wildlife spotting in the Treshnish or Shiant Islands.

Due to uncertainty around travel right now, cruising in Scotland is a good option for UK-based charter clients and owners planning a staycation .

Is this the first time you will be visiting Scotland with Fair Lady or do you have prior experience in the area?

This will be my third season in Scottish waters with Fair Lady, having been there in 2015 and last year. Probably my favourite thing is finding new anchorages. We have a reasonably fail-safe selection of itineraries that will always please clients whatever the weather, however it is always good to explore the routes less travelled when the conditions permit.

The weather in Scotland can change quickly - what kind of activities do you have prepared for when the weather turns?

It is often said there is no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothing! So beach walks, sightseeing and more can usually carry on. If the weather looks to be poor for a longer period of time, an escape to the Caledonian Canal can provide a very unique experience. I should also mention the outstanding fresh Scottish produce that guest can feast on both on board and ashore, particularly fish and shell-fish.

Additionally, the card room on Fair Lady was designed for those more inclement days and is adequately stocked with various board games, and we have quite an extensive movie library and the means to stream films that clients may have brought with them.

What type of guests do you think a Scottish charter would be best suited for?

Scotland is suited to all types of guests but a reasonable amount of agility is required as often getting ashore will involve beach landings or scaling rickety docks! Guests will need to bring suitable clothing for the outdoors, a desire for some adventure and don’t forget to pack a sense of humour!"

Fair Lady is managed for charter by Burgess with a weekly low summer charter rate starting from £56,000 (Terms: MYBA) and a high summer rate starting from £68,000 (Terms: MYBA).

For the first time Rosatom Fuel Division supplied fresh nuclear fuel to the world’s only floating nuclear cogeneration plant in the Arctic

The fuel was supplied to the northernmost town of Russia along the Northern Sea Route.

The first in the history of the power plant refueling, that is, the replacement of spent nuclear fuel with fresh one, is planned to begin before 2024. The manufacturer of nuclear fuel for all Russian nuclear icebreakers, as well as the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, is Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC), a company of Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL that is based in Elektrostal, Moscow Region.

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactors of the icebreaking type. Unlike convenient ground-based large reactors (that require partial replacement of fuel rods once every 12-18 months), in the case of these reactors, the refueling takes place once every few years and includes unloading of the entire reactor core and loading of fresh fuel into the reactor.

The cores of KLT-40 reactors of the Akademik Lomonosov floating power unit have a number of advantages compared to the reference ones: a cassette core was used for the first time in the history of the unit, which made it possible to increase the fuel energy resource to 3-3.5 years between refuelings, and also reduce the fuel component of the electricity cost by one and a half times. The FNPP operating experience formed the basis for the designs of reactors for nuclear icebreakers of the newest series 22220. Three such icebreakers have been launched by now.

For the first time the power units of the Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear power plant were connected to the grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020. The supply of nuclear fuel from Elektrostal to Pevek and its loading into the second reactor is planned for 2024. The total power of the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, supplied to the coastal grid of Pevek without thermal energy consumption on shore, is about 76 MW, being about 44 MW in the maximum thermal power supply mode. The FNPP generated 194 million kWh according to the results of 2023. The population of Pevek is just a little more than 4 thousand, while the FNPP has a potential for supplying electricity to a city with a population of up to 100 thousand people. After the FNPP commissioning two goals were achieved. These include first of all the replacement of the retiring capacities of the Bilibino NPP, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya TPP, which has already been operating for more than 70 years. Secondly, energy is supplied to the main mining companies in western Chukotka in the Chaun-Bilibino energy hub a large ore and metal cluster, including gold mining companies and projects related to the development of the Baimsk ore zone. In September 2023, a 110 kilovolt power transmission line with a length of 490 kilometers was put into operation, connecting the towns of Pevek and Bilibino. The line increased the reliability of energy supply from the FNPP to both Bilibino consumers and mining companies, the largest of which is the Baimsky GOK. The comprehensive development of the Russian Arctic is a national strategic priority. To increase the NSR traffic is of paramount importance for accomplishment of the tasks set in the field of cargo shipping. This logistics corridor is being developed due regular freight voyages, construction of new nuclear-powered icebreakers and modernization of the relevant infrastructure. Rosatom companies are actively involved in this work. Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL (Rosatom Fuel Division) includes companies fabricating nuclear fuel, converting and enriching uranium, manufacturing gas centrifuges, conducting researches and producing designs. As the only nuclear fuel supplier to Russian NPPs, TVEL supplies fuel for a total of 75 power reactors in 15 countries, for research reactors in nine countries, as well as for propulsion reactors of the Russian nuclear fleet. Every sixth power reactor in the world runs on TVEL fuel. Rosatom Fuel Division is the world’s largest producer of enriched uranium and the leader on the global stable isotope market. The Fuel Division is actively developing new businesses in chemistry, metallurgy, energy storage technologies, 3D printing, digital products, and decommissioning of nuclear facilities. TVEL also includes Rosatom integrators for additive technologies and electricity storage systems. Rosenergoatom, Joint-Stock Company is part of Rosatom Electric Power Division and one of the largest companies in the industry acting as an operator of nuclear power plants. It includes, as its branches, 11 operating NPPs, including the FNPP, the Scientific and Technical Center for Emergency Operations at NPPs, Design and Engineering as well as Technological companies. In total, 37 power units with a total installed capacity of over 29.5 GW are in operation at 11 nuclear power plants in Russia. Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC, Elektrostal) is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of fuel for nuclear power plants. The company produces fuel assemblies for VVER-440, VVER-1000, RBMK-1000, BN-600,800, VK-50, EGP-6; powders and fuel pellets intended for supply to foreign customers. It also produces nuclear fuel for research reactors. The plant belongs to the TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom.
