Vertigo is a custom sailing yacht launched in 2011 by Alloy Yachts, in New Zealand.

Established in the early 1980s, the 100% New Zealand owned Alloy Yachts is a builder of high-quality sailing and motor yachts driven by a quest for excellence.

Vertigo measures 67.19 metres in length, with a max draft of 5.00 metres and a beam of 12.53 metres. She has a gross tonnage of 837 tonnes.

Vertigo has an aluminium hull with an aluminium superstructure.

The internationally acclaimed naval architect and yacht designer Philippe Briand made his name designing award-winning sailing yachts (www.philippebriand.com) and building on that experience has led him to create a revolutionary range of motor yachts: Vitruvius Yachts.

Her interior design is by Christian Liaigre.

Vertigo also features naval architecture by Alloy Yachts.

Performance & Range

Vertigo is built with a aluminium hull and aluminium superstructure. Powered by twin Caterpillar engines, she comfortably cruises at 12 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 18 knots with a range of up to 2,300 nautical miles from her 64,000 litre fuel tanks at 17 knots.

Vertigo has a good selection of water toys and accessories to entertain you and your guests whilst on charter. Principle among these are two Topper Topaz sailboats to bring out the explorer in you. Additionally, there are waterskis that are hugely entertaining whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro. In addition there are wakeboards so guests can show off at speed. If that isn't enough Vertigo also features kayaks, scuba diving equipment, bikes and paddleboards. Vertigo features three tenders, but leading the pack is a 8m/26'3" Limo Tender Enclosed to transport you in style.

The Riva 63 Vertigo is a powerful 64.2-foot motoryacht with an open deck first launched at the brand’s La Spezia, Italy shipyard in 2007. A collaboration between naval architect Mauro Micheli, Officina Italiana Design, and the Ferretti (Riva’s parent company) engineering team, the 63 Vertigo by Riva Yachts cuts a sleek, aggressive profile, with a distinct reverse sheer, arrow-shaped windows, and emphatic hull lines thanks to a contrast between the silver body and a flourish of black paint along the topsides, each of which screams ‘forza!’

Two short stairways on either side of the modest swim platform lead up to a large sunpad. The 63 Vertigo’s open deck will be a guest favorite, a perfect perch for seeing and being seen while in dock or taking in the elements at sea. This space features a large settee for soaking up the sun’s rays, as well as a table for al fresco dining. The forward helm station features a chair that can be configured to seat up to three people, and comes equipped with four screens, ZF Smart Command electronic controls, a Raymarine C120 GPS/plotter, and a Simrad RS82 DSC VHF system, among other high-tech goodies.

Below deck, you’ll find a curvy sofa, perfect for gathering around the long wengewood dining table that sits up to eight. Large windows in the topsides flood this space with light. The galley is located to port, and though small, it is laid out with plenty of workable space and storage. There are three cabins for owner and guests, with a stunning aft owner’s suite replete with a queen-sized bed and natural light reflecting from the windows onto two mirrored bulkheads. A folding vanity, heaps of storage space, and large ensuite bathroom starboard with a separate shower offer all the comforts of home, and then some. Those lucky enough to stay in this cabin will enjoy the shower, which also doubles as a sauna. At the bow is a double VIP suite with a roomy hanging locker and further storage at the foot of the bed. Between the larger cabins is the smallest suite, which feature L-shaped bunk beds with access to a fully equipped bathroom that also acts as the day bed. The crew quarters, which features a small crew cabin, is located all the way aft.

The 63 Vertigo is powered by two 1,360hp MAN V12 1360 CRM diesel V-drives which reach top speeds of over 40 knots and a cruising speed of 35 knots.

New build Feadship motor yacht Project Vertigo for sale

The new build 96.55 metre motor yacht Project Vertigo has been listed for sale at Peter Insull’s Yacht Marketing in Antibes.

Currently under construction in steel and aluminium by Dutch yard Feadship , she has an exterior design by Redman Whiteley Dixon . Creative direction by Chahan Minassian of Chahan Interior Design brings about outstanding interior designs. Being built to Lloyds class and MCA compliant, she can accommodate as many as 18 guests in nine cabins. The owner’s dedicated deck has a full beam master suite and a cosy lounge aft leading to a private deck area while on the main deck are two VIP suites and four double cabins, all with access to the central Kaleidescape server giving on demand audio and visual material and all have en suite bathroom facilities. In addition, two further en suite cabins in this yacht for sale can be used either by guests or staff.

The large saloon is divided into two sections by a limestone and quartz double sided fireplace. Aft is the lounge area with a bar, comfortable seating and an entertainment centre, while forward is the formal dining room.

A notable feature is the touch and go helipad on the foredeck, complete with a helicopter hangar capable of storing a Bell 429 model, and a fuelling station holding 2,000 litres of aviation fuel

A centre of attraction on the aft deck is a swimming pool encased in glass which acts as a ceiling to the beach club below. The beach club comes with a bar and glass wind breaks to port and starboard, making it the perfect party venue.

On the sun deck, a gym with a huge backlit raised ceiling, a navy leather floor and walnut ribbed bulkheads layered with polished metal strips lies centrally between a private spa pool and sun bathing area forward.  While the generous aft deck complete with curved bar, barbecue, wood burning pizza oven and dining facilities is the perfect al fresco entertaining area.

Twin 16V 4000 M63L MTU diesel engines will give her a range of 5,000 nautical miles at 12 knots and she is fitted with Quantum zero speed stabilisers.

Scheduled for delivery in February 2017, Project Vertigo ’s price is available on application.

Vertigo's urban-at-sea interior is given visual character by a palette of walnut, creams and blacks, which bring warmth to an otherwise minimalist layout. Large windows soak the spaces with light, while sightlines allow glimpses of the full length of the interior, making it feel even more voluminous.

Loft-Style Interior

Vertigo’s Christian Liagre design resembles a New York Loft, with two salon spaces and a dining area with seating for up to 12 guests are separated by liquid crystal panels and doors that can be rendered transparent or opaque at the flick of a switch, allowing the spaces to be separate or open plan as desired.

Midarette Gym

A fully equipped, air conditioned gymnasium can be found on the lower deck, with a ladder that descends directly into the sea.

Watersports Centre

The midship section of the hull opens up on both sides to create boarding platforms and beaches for all kinds of water-borne activities from diving, snorkelling, water-skiing, boardsailing or swimming.

All Day, All Weather Spaces

Vertigo’s decks are all-day, all-weather spaces, and can be cleverly adapted for various climates with removable Bimini covers, glass screens and air-conditioning.

Protected Aft Cockpit

The aft cockpit is a great refuge in all weathers. The environment can be controlled by slide-up side windows, a rear curtain that pulls up out of the spa-pool surround and connects with the flybridge overhang, and with a pair of louvres set into the roof that open and shut at the touch of a button.

Flybridge Barbecue

The flybridge has twin helm stations forward, large sunbeds aft, curved sofas around the sides and a central table and chairs. Catering needs are met with a barbecue, fridge, icemaker and sink.

Accomplished Sailing Yacht

Vertigo is an accomplished world-cruiser. Five thousand square metres of sail and a performance optimized hull allow her to streak through the sea at speeds of up to 15 knots when the wind picks up - or wend gently under sail on a calm breeze.

How an Earthquake Can Throw the Body and Brain Off-Balance

People can experience dizziness, anxiety and even “phantom” aftershocks following a quake.

Earthquakes are always unnerving. But for some, the aftershocks can go on beyond the actual tremors: People can experience anxiety, sleep problems and other health issues in the hours and days after a quake.

One such effect is a sense of dizziness after an especially large or frightening earthquake. In Japan, this feeling is called jishin-yoi (which roughly translates to “earthquake drunk,” or “earthquake sickness”). It is also sometimes called post-earthquake dizziness syndrome . Others might report experiencing “phantom” earthquakes that might feel like subtle aftershocks, or like the room has started shaking again, but this is in fact purely psychological.

There is very little research into these phenomena, and most of it has been done in the wake of earthquakes far larger than the one that jolted the Northeast on Friday.

In Tokyo, where aftershocks are more common than in other parts of Japan, one team found that some people still experienced balance issues for as long as four months after a big quake.

“We see it with patients who get off cruises too, or get off a boat. They’ll be lightheaded or have a sensation of movement for days or even months,” said Dr. Landon Duyka, an ear, nose and throat surgeon at Northwestern Medicine.

If you are dizzy or feel like the ground is still moving after an earthquake ends, experts recommend treating it as you would other forms of motion sickness. Try looking at a spot far away and focusing on it, Dr. Duyka said, which “can often help what we call the vestibular system — or your balance system — settle down.”

If your dizzy spell doesn’t go away on its own within a few hours, or if it is particularly intense, you may want to look into over-the-counter antihistamines, like Dramamine, Dr. Duyka said.

Some feelings may be caused more by stress. Experts said that it’s normal to feel anxiety, especially if you’ve never experienced an earthquake before.

You can’t control earthquakes, said Susan Albers, a clinical psychologist at the Cleveland Clinic who has worked with patients who have weather-related fears. “That’s where it really taps into people’s anxiety, and particularly if you’re somebody who already has issues with control.”

Dr. Albers said it’s important to avoid “doom-scrolling” after experiencing a stressful event like an earthquake. If you feel compelled to read about it, she recommended focusing on scientific explanations of earthquakes and how they work, rather than the destruction they cause. This is especially helpful for children, Dr. Albers added.

She also recommended sharing your experience with people around you, talking about where you were and what it felt like. Seek out people who project a sense of ease about the event, Dr. Albers said — or, if you are able, become that person for others.

“Being around people who are calm about the situation can be really helpful,” she said. “Calm is contagious.”
