The James Bond-Inspired Superyachts of John Staluppi

John Staluppi likes anything mechanical, especially if it has speed.  He quit school at sixteen to start working as a mechanic at a local GM dealership in Brooklyn, New York.  At the time, the muscle car era of big engines and fast cars was just beginning to emerge.  John loved working on high-performance cars.  In his spare time, he drag-raced and won some races, even building some of his own drag cars.  He was a Grand National Drag-Racing Champion at one point.

Soon his parents helped him buy his first gas station, which quickly grew into a series of several gas stations.  In the early 1960s, Staluppi was one of the first to begin selling an unknown brand of motorcycles from Japan called Honda.  Soon after, the first Honda cars arrived in the mid-60s and within a decade he had several east coast auto dealerships.  He later took on the Hyundai franchise.  He quickly became one of the east coast’s largest independent car dealerships through his Atlantic Auto Group .

Early on when he was a mechanic at that GM dealership, the owner had him replace the engines in his 28-foot Shepherd mahogany runabout with a pair of Corvette engines.  That was a start to Staluppi’s interest in boats.  Later on as his business grew, he started powerboat racing but a couple of mishaps including a roll-over in one boat and a destructive fire in the next one ended his enthusiasm. 

He next went for a 43-foot Ocean sportfisherman, not because he necessarily liked fishing but because, as larger boats go, it was relatively fast.  His second big pleasure boat was a 60-foot Viking, but even this didn’t satisfy his need for speed and size and comfort, especially since his offshore racing had shown him the thrill of a hundred miles an hour on the water.  Thus started his search for satisfaction, which would see him chase size, speed, and luxuriousness in larger yachts.  This constant searching also meant finding a replacement yacht every few years. 

Somewhere along the way, Staluppi decided he wanted the fastest superyacht over 100 feet long.  He quickly discovered a 118-foot yacht being built at Denison Yachts in Fort Lauderdale.  He got involved with the builder, Kit Denison, both in the engineering and in the fine points of construction, design, and outfitting.  He had the Detroit diesel inboard power replaced with MTU diesels with jet drives – the largest pleasure vessel to that point in the US with water-jet propulsion.  It was launched in 1985.

The yacht was named For Your Eyes Only as Staluppi was a James Bond movie fan and the boat embraced the exotic, exciting, and glamourous nature of the films with its speed and character.  This would become the first of a number of superyachts owned by John Staluppi to carry the name from a James Bond movie. 

In the late 1980s, I attended a boatbuilder’s conference in Ft. Lauderdale and we were given a tour of For Your Eyes Only by Kit Denison himself at his Dania, Florida yard when the yacht was in for a refit.  It was simply magnificent and unforgettable.

Here are some of John Staluppi's most iconic and memorable Jamed Bond-themed superyachts:

For Your Eyes Only

Very soon, Staluppi heard that two other superyachts were being built that would be faster than the roughly 35 miles per hour of For Your Eyes Only .  He eventually found new Netherlands shipbuilder Frans Heeson and designer Frank Mulder who agreed to build the world’s fastest superyacht.  The deal was that the boat had to run 50 knots (58 mph) in order to get paid and a bonius would be paid for every knot over 50.   After a couple of weight-reducing modifications, Octopussy, with its three MTU diesels each producing 3500 horsepower, eventually topped 53 kts (61 mph) and Staluppi paid the promised $400,000. bonus for the extra speed.  Octopussy was launched in 1988.

John and Jeanette Staluppi cruised extensively for almost a couple of years in Octopussy while garnering a lot of attention wherever they went.  Until that is, he heard of another superyacht being built that was intended to hit 65 knots but after launching, only achieved about 57 knots.  Only!!  This would not do and so John had Frank Mulder design and Norship of Norway build the 118-foot Moonraker .  After launching in 1992, top speed was clocked at 61 knots or just over 70 mph – in a 118-foot yacht!  The world superyacht speed record once again belonged to John Staluppi.

After buying, building, using and then selling a number of boats, Staluppi the businessman soon realized that commercializing his boating enjoyment would be beneficial.   In 1998 he created Millenium Superyachts as a boatbuilder and a charter fleet operator.  In 2004, Millenium launched the Neptunus of Holland built and Frank Mulder designed 138-foot The World Is Not Enough with interior design heavily influenced by Jeanette Staluppi.

Powered by a pair of Paxman 18-cylinder diesels plus twin Lycoming turbines producing a total of 20,000 horsepower, the V-hulled The World Is Not Enough  had a top speed of just over 80 mph, a cruising speed of just under 60 mph, and a range of over 4,000 statute miles from its 15,000-gallon fuel capacity.  And remember, this superyacht is almost 140-feet long  with accommodations for ten guests and a crew of six!

The World is Not Enough

Next for John Staluppi was the 163-foot Christensen-built Casino Royale , originally named Millenium Edition .  Built in the US west coast Christensen yard in Washington State and launched in 2008, Casino Royale  broke tradition in a couple of ways for John Staluppi.  All of his previous superyachts were built primarily of aluminum whereas this one has a hull and tri-deck superstructure of Kevlar composites.  Following Millenium Superyachts’ objective to pursue pleasure and comfortable and efficient cruising that would be suitable for chartering , Casino Royale had only moderate diesel power with 5-bladed propeller drive.

Famed Italian yacht builder Benetti built and in 2011 launched Staluppi’s next superyacht, the 197-foot (60m) Diamonds Are Forever , a multi-award-winner and intended from the start to be a luxurious charter yacht.  It could accommodate twelve guests in six cabins plus a crew of sixteen.  During construction, Staluppi had a fifth deck added for sunbathing.

It featured a steel hull with aluminum superstructure, teak decks, a helipad, and Caterpillar diesel power.  Most of these features had not previously been prevalent on Staluppi yachts.  He had even once said that he did not like teak decks and railings due to the constant maintenance required and the teak oil which got transferred from hands and feet throughout the rest of a boat onto carpets and surfaces.  Staluppi sold this gorgeous yacht in 2013.

Diamonds Are Forever

The spectacular 227-foot Spectre launched in 2018 was once again a Benetti build with naval architects Mulder Design involved once again with John Staluppi.  It was designed to be a faster than normal yet comfortable displacement hull with “Ride Control” to reduce pitch and roll with a cruising speed of almost 20 mph and a top speed of 23 mph.

With a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, Spectre  is powered by twin MTU diesels.  It accommodates twelve guests in six cabins plus a crew of fifteen.  The master suite features its own private deck with whirlpool.  Staluppi sold Spectre within one year of its delivery to him.

Skyfall  is mentioned here next as it is a superyacht once owned by John Staluppi and it does have a name from a Bond movie but its launch date of 2010 does not follow in sequence to the superyachts mentioned above.  That is because John Staluppi was not the original owner and purchased it as a pre-owned vessel.  Built by Trinity Yachts of Gulfport, Mississippi the multi-award-winning 190-foot Skyfall  is a superyacht designed and destined for charter.  It accommodates twelve guests in six cabins plus a crew of fourteen.  Staluppi sold it in 2018.

Quantum of Solace  was built by Turkish boatbuilder Turquoise Yachts and launched in 2009.  Once again, John Staluppi was not the original owner of this 238-footer.  Quantum of Solace could accommodate fourteen guests in seven cabins plus a crew of nineteen in ten cabins.  The master suite was full-beam approaching forty feet in width!  It featured a unique two-story atrium in the main salon.  It had a full displacement hull of steel with aluminum superstructure and twin Caterpillar diesel engines with a range of 7,000 nautical miles.  Staluppi sold it in 2011.

Quantum of Solace

Along with his Atlantic Auto Group comprised of thirty-odd new car dealerships in New York and Nevada, John Staluppi has owned many boats, yachts, and superyachts over the years of which nine with Bond movie names are featured in this article.  He also maintained his fascination with cars, became an avid collector and co-owned a mall to house his collection of over one hundred mainly fifties and sixties automobiles in a museum setting.  In 2012, he sold his Cars of Dreams collection at auction. 

The Staluppi’s have been major philanthropists over the years with childrens’ charities being among their favourites.  In 2017, they purchased at auction a 1996 Ford Mustang which had been built by students at a vocational high school.  They paid $50,000. for the car but immediately donated it back to be re-auctioned in order to raise additional funds for the school.

 In 2018, John and Jeanette Staluppi were the winning bidders at Barrett-Jackson Auctions of a 2018 Corvette Z06 Carbon 65, VIN 001 and signed by President George W. Bush.  The Staluppi winning bid was $1.4 Million which was donated to the Wounded Warriors charity fund.  The Staluppi’s are also major contributors to Honda’s Classic Cares charity for American youth.

The story of John Staluppi is the story of the American dream.  The superyachts he has owned and named after James Bond-themed movies is an apt reflection of that dream.

A wry smile from Hollywood actor Daniel Craig is all that is needed to summon the image of James Bond. But if you mention a 007-themed superyacht , it’s the name John Staluppi that springs to mind. The recognition is well-earned. The serial yacht owner’s latest 238-footer, Quantum of Solace, comes with designs that even Q would marvel at.

The Brooklyn-born businessman has owned 27 boats over the course of 30 years and has named each of his superyachts after a James Bond film. The 118-foot For Your Eyes Only , built in 1985 by Denison, marked a step change from Staluppi’s smaller fishing vessels and was the first motoryacht in the US to have a combination of MTU engines with water-jet propulsion.

But it was his second 007-inspired yacht, Octopussy, that gave Staluppi fame outside the yachting world, and made the Bond names more than a gimmick. Built in 1988, the 144-foot Heesen had an earth-shattering top end of 61 mph—a speed that every other shipyard at the time said couldn’t be done. Octopussy immediately entered the record books as the world’s fastest yacht.

“That record was important to me because when you pull into any place there’s always a bigger boat or a prettier boat, but there’s not many people who can say, ‘Hey, this is the fastest yacht in the world,” Staluppi told Robb Report.

Over time, Staluppi has fine-tuned his requirements, saving adrenaline kicks for his cars, helicopters and jets. Today, he prefers his yachts to have a top speed of about 21 knots, transatlantic capability, and plenty of interior space. That’s exactly what Quantum of Solace provides.

Built by Turquoise in 2012, Quantum of Solace is one of just four yachts in the world to have a double-height atrium in the main salon. For Staluppi, who finds the excitement and gadgetry of Bond films a fitting association for his yachts, the design feature was a big draw. “I’ve never really seen that before and I just couldn’t imagine it. So that’s why I had to see the boat,” he says.

Staluppi bought the yacht almost “sight unseen” in 2019. “They were in Colombia and I said, ‘I’ll give you a $50,000 non-refundable deposit, bring the boat to the Bahamas on the way to Europe. If I like it, I’ll take it right on the spot. If I don’t, keep my $50,000,’” he recalls.

Staluppi liked the design a lot. Beyond the aesthetics, he is a pragmatist about his yachts. He noted that Quantum ’s garage was set up with user-friendly cranes, the beach club had door openings at water level. The boat also had a 16-foot contra-flow swimming pool “that you can actually swim in” and a professional DJ station on the sun deck that doubles up as a versatile heli-deck.

It’s also the first yacht that Staluppi and his wife have spent an unprecedented eight weeks aboard. When Covid-19 hit and his preferred cruising grounds of Europe closed, they traveled from Maine to Boston, around Nantucket and Greenport, and dropped anchor off of Martha’s Vineyard.

Over the years, Staluppi has moved from building super-fast superyachts to ones emphasizing space and comfort. 

“I’m the last guy that wants to anchor out, but this boat is just so stable you don’t even know you’re anchoring. I never thought I’d be able to do that,” he says.

Years of being intrinsically involved with the design, build and sale of so many yachts has made Staluppi a sought-after consultant for both owners and shipyards. In 1998, he launched his Millennium Super Yachts fleet, in which he built yachts to order. “It’s important to have a good design from the beginning, so you don’t have to have many changes,” he says. “Of course, that’s almost impossible. Anytime you build a boat, you know you’re going to have anything from $400,000 to $2 million in changes.”

From his personal builds, 2004’s World Is Not Enough is one of his favorites. “The truth of the matter is, World Is Not Enough was the fastest yacht that we’ve ever owned; it’s just nobody ever went up to that speed,” he says. Capable of 77 mph on paper, technical issues with the boat’s steering hampered its performance.

The laid-back but luxurious Beach Club and Spa areas would work well as a setting in a Bond movie. 

Spectre , built in 2019 by Benetti, came close to being his “perfect yacht,” but the top deck felt too small for Staluppi’s liking. By the time he realized that was the case, the build was too far along. Now, the serial yacht owner is focusing on his next project, which promises to have a multitude of Bond gadgets.

“I always say this is the last boat I’m building and then I’m building a new boat again,” Staluppi says. “Sometimes I get the urge to build a fast yacht again, but you give up a lot of luxury, and now I’m more into having a nice bottle of wine and a meal on board. If I want to go fast, I have a 92-foot Pershing for that.”

The sense of space throughout Quantum of Solace ‘s interior was a key feature for Staluppi, who bought the yacht virtually sight unseen. 

Staluppi has listed Quantum of Solace for $58 million with Yachting Partners International to make space for the new unbuilt yacht. The Turquoise-built yacht is actually the second with the same name. Staluppi made the decision name it Quantum of Solace , after the then-latest Bond movie, No Time To Die, was released. “I didn’t want to have a boat named that,” he says.

Speaking of which, does knowing that his yachts will always have to be connected to a 007 movie title ever bother Staluppi? “No,” he says. “I kind of enjoy it.”

Licence to thrill: John Staluppi's fastest superyachts

The world is not enough.

Launched in 2004 by Neptunus – Millennium , a Dutch shipyard part-owned by Staluppi, the 42 metre The World Is Not Enough can achieve around 67 knots. “Sportfishing boats had started doing 42 knots, 44 knots, and some of the smaller boats did 80km/h [50mph],” says Staluppi. “We would go by those boats, I would have a cocktail in my hand and give the people a ‘how you doing?’ Nobody could believe it.”

When Staluppi heard that the Aga Khan was planning to build a yacht capable of 65 knots, he commissioned Norship to build him a lightning-fast 36.6m model. The Aga Khan’s boat achieved a respectable 57 knots but Staluppi’s new toy Moonraker , which hit the water in 1992, reached 66.7 knots. She was the second boat in Staluppi’s long-term relationship with Mulder Design .

Having got a taste for speed, Staluppi dialled it up with 40.25m Octopussy , launched in 1988 by Heesen . He asked Frans Heesen for the fastest yacht in the world. He recalls that he told the yard owner: “The boat has to do over 50 knots. If it does under 50 knots I don’t have to take the boat. If the boat does 51 knots or more, for every knot over 51 knots we would pay a $200,000 [£262,000] bonus.” It did 53 knots.

John Staluppi’s first superyacht, now Blue Oceans , was a 36 metre launched in 1985 by US yard Denison. He wanted something racier than the yachts he had seen while cruising in his earlier, smaller fishing boats. “I wanted to build the first boat over 100ft [30.5m] that would go over 30 knots,” he said. “The Bond name came because the concept seemed to match the crazy gadgets, planes, boats and cars of the films.”

Staluppi has moved away from speed for speed’s sake, but he is still very keen on getting the most out of his machines. “She’s done 21.5 knots, which is pretty impressive for a yacht of her size,” he says about the 2018 launched 69 metre Spectre . The yacht is the newest addition to the growing family of boats bearing a James Bond name and John and Jeanette Staluppi’s special touch.

There have been numerous James Bond-related superyachts cruising throughout the Mediterranean and the Caribbean for the last four decades, and in most cases the names can be attributed to a single owner: John Staluppi . Rising from rags to riches during the golden age of the Automobile, the New York millionaire is the fulfilment of the American dream.

Starting out as a mechanic, his father quickly recognised his talent with automobiles and took out a loan on the house for his son to own a Sunco station. From there, John Staluppi gained enough success and experience to take a chance on the unknown Japanese brand Honda. Within ten years he had 20 dealerships and had expanded from motorcycles to cars.

His love of all things fast was not limited to wheels and in the mid-80s Staluppi owned his first superyacht. The high-speed nature of his vessel was reminiscent of the unusual gadgets and high-octane vehicles of the James Bond films, leading to the beginning of a naming convention that would last through the decades.

Spectre – 2018

Due to launch before summer 2018, 69m/226ft motor yacht SPECTRE is the latest hull from renowned Italian shipyard Benetti . Mulder Design reprises its role as naval architects for John Staluppi, while the interiors will be completed by  Giorgio M. Cassetta .

With a top speed of 21 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots, she may not be as fast as her predecessors but she has four decks dedicated purely to guest enjoyment and an extensive range of 6,500 nautical miles.

Diamonds Are Forever – 2011

Staluppi also had a 51m/167ft Benetti named motor yacht QUANTUM OF SOLACE (now known as ELYSIUM) , followed by 61m/200ft superyacht DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER. British designer Evan K. Marshall styled her interiors with art deco accents, plenty of mirrors and captivating details such as the onyx floor and hand-beaten glass inlay.

The lavish amenities include a spa massage room, a beauty salon, a sauna and spa pool, a helipad and two Master suites. The accommodation has six cabins to sleep up to 12 guests and her skilled crew of 15 will keep events running smoothly.

Built by Trinity Yachts , 58m/190ft luxury yacht SKYFALL (ex.MI SUEÑO) is another from Staluppi’s collection available on the charter market and she offers guests timeless interiors for a relaxing and elegant holiday shared with family and friends.

After attempting to reach 70 knots, Christensen -built superyacht CASINO ROYALE was a clear-cut departure from speed and a move towards luxury, capable of a leisurely cruising speed of 13 knots and a top speed of 16 knots.

In 1998 Staluppi began building his own shipbuilding company called Millennium Super Yachts, which later formed part of Neptunus-Millennium in the Netherlands .

To this day, Staluppi maintains that 42m/138ft superyacht THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH is his favourite:

‘That boat was set to do 70 knots, but we could never get it to steer over 66 knots,’ Staluppi reminisces. ‘As soon as it got to 65, 66 knots, it would either spin out to the right or the left. It was a massive spin-out, like being on a WaveRunner. We never ran that boat over 90 per cent power.’

Despite never reaching the desired 70 knots, Staluppi had plenty of fun outracing the other luxury yachts:

‘Sport-fishing boats had started doing 42 knots, 44 knots, and some of the smaller boats did 50 miles an hour… We would go by those boats, I would have a cocktail in my hand, a nice martini and give the people a “how you doing?” Nobody could believe it.’

Moonraker – 1992

It was only a year and a half after OCTOPUSSY was launched that Staluppi set his sights on an even faster yacht and commissioned Frank Mulder and Norship to make his dream into reality. Superyacht MOONRAKER reached 61 knots, which beat his closest competition, HH the Aga Khan, by 4 knots.

Built from a GRP hull and superstructure, she has a draft under 2m/7ft and a beam of 7m/24ft. The interiors were completed by Terence Disdale and feature elegant staircases, nautical murals and an abundance of outdoor space, including a sundeck fitted with a wet bar and Jacuzzi.

36m/118ft MOONRAKER also represented a shift in tone for John Staluppi; whereas before he was commissioning motor yachts for his passion for speed and high-end travel, he was now also considering the commercial side of superyachts, especially after OCTOPUSSY sold so well.

Octopussy – 1988

In the 1980s, Frans Heesen was still establishing his shipyard’s reputation on the global stage when he was approached by John Staluppi to build the fastest yacht in the world. Together with Frank Mulder, they created 54m/178ft superyacht OCTOPUSSY, the yacht that would make or break Heesen ‘s name.

As part of the build contract, Staluppi could choose not to take OCTOPUSSY should she do fewer than 50 knots at top speed. When the time for her sea trials came she proved she was capable of 50.5 knots, but Staluppi believed she could go even faster and promised Frans Heesen an additional $200,000 for every knot over 51 knots she could achieve. By removing the chines and reducing the drag, OCTOPUSSY reached 53 knots and Heesen became $400,000 richer.

OCTOPUSSY has since been available on the charter market and boasts a full-beam Master suite, an aft formal dining area that can be opened up to the main deck aft to create a lavish alfresco eating area, and a sundeck Jacuzzi with plenty of sunpads. Her accommodation sleeps up to 12 guests over 5 cabins and has a crew of 7. Although a refit and hull extension means that she is no longer capable of 53 knots, she will still take her guests through the Mediterranean in haste and style.

For Your Eyes Only – 1985

The first yacht owned by Staluppi, luxury yacht FOR YOUR EYES ONLY was a 36m/118ft hull built by Denison in 1985 and has since been known as DYNAMO V, LAKEWOOD LADY, I DON’T RECALL and most recently WANDERLUST.

‘I really wanted to have something different,’ says Staluppi. ‘I wanted to build the first boat over 100 feet (30.5 metres) that would go over 30 knots.’

Built with an aluminium hull and superstructure, M/Y FOR YOUR EYES ONLY has an impressively shallow draft of 1.4m/4.5ft, making her perfect for approaching close to beaches and entering sheltered bays and coves. Her accommodation sleeps 8 over 1 Master cabin, 1 VIP stateroom, 1 twin cabins and a further cabin that sleeps three. The crew accommodation is designed for up to 4. Coupled with her impressive cruising speed of 23 knots and a top speed of 30 knots, she has stood the test of time.

Still dreaming: car connoisseur john staluppi, he may have sold his extensive collection, but he’s far from finished.

We’re walking through an enthusiast’s paradise that Staluppi, born in 1947, calls his Cars of Dreams, built into roughly half of a nondescript West Palm Beach, Florida, strip mall he purchased primarily to house his extensive collection of automobiles. A casual passerby has no idea of the four-wheeled treasures inside the roughly 60,000-square-foot space. With its Coney Island theme, accented by a Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan skyline motif along the back wall, this isn’t just a place to gawk at old cars—there’s an entire town to explore.

Staluppi’s dream was born of necessity. When he moved into his West Palm Beach estate, he quickly found there was one part of the home that didn’t measure up. “I had a 10-car garage, but I said, ‘This is not working,’ and built an 18-car garage for my house,” Staluppi says. “I kept packing cars in, and every time I wanted to go for a ride in a car, I’d have to move five cars just to get to it.”

Once he moved his cars out of the garage and into the museum, he kept packing them in, eventually accumulating roughly 150 in all. But by the end of the week, just a handful will remain. Staluppi is  selling nearly the entire shebang —145 cars—at the annual Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach auction. Today, the Barrett-Jackson crew is on hand to tag, prep, and ultimately move each car from this plush townscape to the local fairgrounds where the auction will occur. The smell of exhaust hangs in the air from cars starting and rolling out of the massive building onto waiting transport trailers. When it’s all said and done, Staluppi’s cars will generate $13.96 million at auction, including buyer’s premium, typically around 10 percent. Staluppi’s cut will be the hammer price, minus Barrett-Jackson’s listing fees and seller’s premium of 8 percent (if you do the math, that’s a little more than $1 million). He’s still left with a huge chunk of change, the kind of money Staluppi once only dreamed of earning.

With some financial help from his working-class parents, he went on to purchase a small gas station, then a Honda dealership back when the Japanese company’s only products were motorcycles. Staluppi began adding Honda dealers, filling his showrooms with little N600 micro sedans when Honda offered cars for U.S. sale. His timing couldn’t have been better. When the aftershocks of the 1973-74 OPEC oil embargo led to higher gas prices, Honda’s fuel-efficient cars and motorcycles started flying out of Staluppi’s showrooms. The windfall enabled him to expand into Oldsmobile and Nissan dealerships. Although his empire has shrunk since its peak at 40 dealerships, Staluppi says the family business (his son owns franchises in Las Vegas) still constitutes the third-largest private dealership group in the country.

Although sales of contemporary cars have long buttered Staluppi’s bread, they don’t do much for him. “Classic cars just have the look,” he insists. “You look at cars today, it’s hard to tell if it’s an Audi or a Mercedes other than having the big badges. There aren’t a lot of convertibles out there today; most cars are four doors. If you look at these old cars, with the big bumpers and the chrome, they still have that sentimental value.”

That is why, despite selling nearly every car from his collection with its focus on American convertibles primarily from the 1940s to 1960s, this space will no doubt be packed with cars again in the not too distant future. This is the second time Staluppi has sold an enormous grouping of vehicles to fixate on a new theme. Although the focus will remain on American iron, he plans some significant changes.

“I’m not a big foreign car guy,” he says. “Ferraris and all that, I had a couple of them. … They don’t do nothin’ for me. Maybe I would buy some old Rolls-Royces or the old Bentleys. I’ve got to find the right ones, with the tires on the fenders. This new collection is going to have hardtops and station wagons—I used to love the old Woodies. This time we’re going to do a lot more restomods. I like that they have fuel injection; carburetors are a pain in the ass. We have a few cars that weren’t started for a long time and the carburetors were all gummed up … oh my god.”

“I was really getting melancholy the other night,” Staluppi admits. “Some people sell their cars because they need the money. I just wanted to have a change. But as I’m going through it, I’m thinking, ‘What am I doing?’ If the place was bigger, I’d just go out and buy another 150 cars and have 300 cars. But I don’t want to just have 300 cars in a warehouse. I want it to look nice.”

After a lifetime of buying and selling for a living and a hobby, there is at least one car, his first Corvette, Staluppi refuses to part with. Or rather, he won’t sell it again.

“When I was still a mechanic at the Chevy dealer, they got this black ’62 Corvette in, and I was going crazy,” he says. “I went to my father and said, ‘I really want this car. You’ve gotta help me out.’ He took out a second mortgage on the house ’cause we didn’t have a lot of money. It was $3,100, and the house was only worth $18,000. I got the Corvette, and it was the first really new Corvette I had.” By the end of the ’60s, Staluppi sold the Corvette, but more recently, his then-99-year-old father told him, “Johnny, when your mother died, I was cleaning out some stuff, and I found the registration for your first Corvette.”

These days, the collector has branched out from automotive ventures into commissioning some of the fastest luxury yachts in the world. One of those creations, a 140-foot boat named The World Is Not Enough (all of Staluppi’s boats are 007-themed), is capable of hitting some 80 mph on open water. But Staluppi isn’t finished tinkering with cars. His latest project is a 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz convertible he plans to modify.

“I decided I want to put four-wheel drive in the car and also a fuel-injection motor,” he says. “So I bought a used Escalade, and a guy is putting the car on the Escalade chassis. I’ve got a home in the mountains, and I want a car that I can drive there with four-wheel drive. It’ll be the only ’58 Cadillac with four-wheel drive!”

There will be plenty more cars to come and plenty more dreams worth chasing—and perhaps, eventually, yet another big auction when Staluppi once again feels a change is in order.

Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach 2018, April 12-15

Lots of Superbirds were driven hard and put away wet when they were just “used cars,” but this example seems to have been spared that sort of misery. The original numbers-matching 440-cubic-inch six-barrel engine and 727 Torqueflite transmission are installed, and the nose cone, often replaced with an aftermarket one due to damage, is factory original.

Subjected to a full frame-off restoration and powertrain rebuild, this documented, factory-produced Judge is one of just 549 built with the desirable Ram Air IV engine and Muncie M21 four-speed, short-ratio manual gearbox. Said to be factory-correct down to the little details—like GM-branded hoses—this surely must be one of the best available, hence the strong sale price.

Isettas are probably best known in the U.S. thanks to their association with television character Steve Urkel from the ’90s sitcom “Family Matters,” but as classic microcars gain traction in the marketplace, their values are on the rise. An outlier in the American-centric Staluppi collection, this Isetta 300 seats two and has a rear-mounted 0.3-liter engine. This was fair market value for a nicely restored car.

Staluppi had a hard time parting with this one, and it is easy to see why. The original 365- cubic-inch V-8 sits underhood, and the rest of the car was treated to a cosmetic restoration including 24-karat-gold-plated emblems. With plenty of ownership history and documentation on the car, this one will undoubtedly be tough to replace. You couldn’t restore this Cadillac to this level for the price paid.

For the collector who has everything, may we suggest this very early circus wagon? Said to have appeared in Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus events, the wagon has been treated to a better-than-original restoration with gold-plated trim, solid brass cage bars, and Amish-made wooden spoke wheels. If you wanted one, here it was.

You never forget your first Corvette, or at least John Staluppi didn’t. After making the mistake of selling the car once, the opportunity to buy it back presented itself. Staluppi took it and ran. This one won’t escape his possession again.

1969 was a unique year in Camaro history, with sporty, restyled sheet metal that lasted for just this single model year. This Indy Pace Car edition (Z11 package) includes the rear spoiler, rally wheels, and a ducted hood. Just like the cars he adores and the boats he builds, John Staluppi is a walking, talking embodiment of the ‘American dream’. Starting out as a petrol station mechanic in Brooklyn, Staluppi built a billion dollar business of car dealerships, before turning his hand to creating some of the most iconic superyachts ever built.

We meet at Staluppi’s offices in North Palm Beach, Florida, but – apropos the man – this is no ordinary office building. The shopping mall on US Highway 1 looks innocuous from the outside, but once you’re buzzed in through the front door you enter a dreamscape. The building is home to Staluppi’s classic car collection and museum Cars of Dreams. The cars were arranged in a Brooklyn, circa-1960s, scene, complete with drive-in and merry-go-round. Yes, that’s a merry-go-round. A big one. It’s quiet: the museum is only open three or four times a year for charity events; Shop with a Cop, Hospice Foundation of America and American Heart Association are those that benefit.

Staluppi arrives, dressed casually in a blue open-necked shirt and jeans; burger, fries and shakes are delivered to eat in the museum’s ‘diner scene’ and we settle down to talk.

Staluppi’s life story moves quickly from petrol station mechanic to station owner, after a loan from his father, an electrician with the foresight to see his son’s entrepreneurial talent. He took out a $5,000 loan on the family home and John was soon running a successful Sunoco concern.

The transformative step came not long after, when Staluppi convinced a then largely unknown Japanese firm called Honda that he was the right person to sell its motorcycles. Honda made the smart decision and soon handed him a car franchise as well and a decade later, Staluppi had close to 20 automobile dealerships.

He is now president of the Atlantic Auto Group, still with Honda, and at different times the biggest Hyundai and Oldsmobile dealer in the world, selling nine marques of cars from locations throughout Long Island, New York, and generating $2 billion in annual revenue. So much for the business, but where did the passion for boats come from?

Staluppi had an interest in the water right from the beginning. He was a lifeguard at a hotel pool when he was 17, but the event that got him interested in boats occurred equally early in his career, when he worked at a Chevrolet dealership. The owner, Dave Gerbitz, had an 8.5m mahogany Shepherd motorboat and Gerbitz got his young mechanic to replace the engines with those from a Corvette.

While he was doing the work, Staluppi was taken with boats and the parallels with his first love, cars.

‘Boats and cars, the difference is one has propellers and the other one has wheels,’ he asserts.

Building the business came first, however, and even his beloved 1962 Corvette was sold to that end. ‘But I got it back,’ he says, describing how he found and repurchased the car, now in the museum.

Taste for speed

When he finally took the step, Staluppi’s first boat was a 13m Ocean sport fishing boat, even though he didn’t much like fishing.

‘I liked the speed of it,’ he explains. ‘This fishing boat was the only thing at that time that did 30 knots.’

Staluppi raced dragsters in his teens, winning a Grand Nationals in Tennessee, and there’s a strong connection with speed right through his career – including an epic rivalry with John Rossatti, his business partner in the mall that houses Cars of Dreams. They’ve raced almost anything that goes fast: Porches, Corvettes, motorcycles, snowmobiles, cigarette boats…

The powerboat racing came to a fairly swift end after a couple of high-speed crashes. The first was a flip in California and the aftermath more unnerving still.

‘We were floating around out there in the middle of the ocean for about 20 minutes, and all I could think about was the shark coming to bite my leg,’ he recalls. ‘The couple of guys that were with me, one was bleeding and the other hurt his back.’

Staluppi’s lifeguard training came in very useful until the coastguard appeared. He built a new race boat and this one caught fire on Lake Pontchartrain, near New Orleans. Staluppi found himself back in the water thinking, ‘“You know what? Two times is a warning, three times you’re out.” There wasn’t going to be a third time.’

He had an 18m Viking by this stage, but after doing 80 knots in a racing powerboat, it felt a little tame, and he’d always wanted something better.

‘When you’re out there and riding around and see all these big boats go by, you always think, “Someday I want to have a big yacht.”’ And so the 36m, Denison-built, For Your Eyes Only was born. ‘I really wanted to have something different. I wanted to build the first boat over 100 feet (30.5 metres) that would go over 30 knots.’ The Bond movie-inspired name came because the concept seemed to match the ‘crazy gadgets, planes, boats and high-speed cars’, of the films.

Many will testify to Staluppi’s hands-on style when he builds a boat, and his attention to the detail of the engineering was evident right from the beginning. He realised that putting Detroit engines in For Your Eyes Only was a mistake.

‘Everyone was talking about water-jets and how much more efficient they would be when partnered up with MTUs.’ Staluppi did the research. ‘We pulled the engines out before the boat was finished and went to MTUs and water-jets. And I was the first one to bring MTUs and water-jets into the US in a motor yacht configuration.’

For Staluppi, 30 knots was never going to be enough. With the King of Spain and the Aga Khan looking to go faster, Staluppi wanted to do 50 knots in a much bigger boat – originally planned at 39m. He had already bought a power plant of three MTUs at 3,500hp each, before he even had a shipyard, but it wasn’t easy to find an engineer or a yard that thought it was enough power.

Staluppi kept looking and found fellow believers in designer Frank Mulder and entrepreneur turned shipbuilder Frans Heesen.

Fastest boat in the world

Staluppi outlines the deal he cut with Heesen: ‘The boat has to do over 50 knots. If it does under 50 knots I don’t have to take the boat. If the boat does 51 knots or more, for every knot over 51 knots we would pay a $200,000 bonus.’

Heesen took on the challenge, building Octopussy in the Netherlands for a 1988 launch. Everyone worked hard at hitting the speed; Jeanette Staluppi’s first question when researching possible soft goods was, ‘How much does it weigh?’

When Octopussy was launched for sea trials, the coastguard cleared a runway.

‘I bought a radar gun, and we were on the boat for the first sea trial,’ says Staluppi. ‘Everybody was nervous because Frans Heesen could see his whole shipyard go out of business. He would own this boat if it didn’t do the speed. The boat does 50.5 knots, it was the first run. He was so happy.’

Staluppi still wasn’t done. ‘I said to Heesen, “Listen you could make this bonus. I would like you to cut the back corners, the chines off.” I felt the boat was running bow-down, so when the bow [went] down, there would be more drag.

‘Frans Heesen says, “No, no, no, I’m not going to do that.” I said, “Frans, you could make $200,000.” So he made me agree that if the boat went slower, I owned the boat. I said, “OK” and he cut the back of the boat off and we made 53 knots.

‘He was so happy because he got a $400,000 bonus. I was happy because now I owned the fastest yacht in the world.’

And that was something he liked a lot.

‘There’s only one fastest yacht in the world. When we pulled in there (to ports) everybody said, “That’s Octopussy.”’

The Staluppis cruised the Atlantic in her for a year and a half before selling – the competition was heating up again. ‘We got wind HH the Aga Khan was building a boat that was supposed to do 65 knots, and naturally I wanted to go faster. We built Moonraker. They [HH the Aga Khan and his boat] did 57-point-something knots and we built Moonraker and with that boat did 61 knots.’

Moonraker was launched in 1992, and the record was his again. But the Mulder-designed, Norship-built 36m Moonraker was a different boat for another reason. After Octopussy, Staluppi transitioned from building boats for a hobby into a more commercial outlook.

‘I decided to get into the boat building business, because we were familiar with it on the high-speed end, and I was selling the boats and making good money.’

It was 1998 when he formally started Millennium Super Yachts, and by 2012 John Staluppi had lifted his total to 18 boats. Nevertheless, he has a clear favourite, the aptly named The World Is Not Enough.

‘I wanted to build one more yacht which would set the standard, and make the (speed record) bar very high, very hard to achieve for someone.’

Record breaker

The World Is Not Enough was another collaboration with Frank Mulder, again built in the Netherlands, this time in a shipyard Staluppi had bought into – it has the Millennium Super Yachts label.

‘That boat was set to do 70 knots, but we could never get it to steer over 66 knots – as soon as it got to 65, 66 knots, it would either spin out to the right or the left. It was a massive spin-out, like being in a WaveRunner. We never ran that boat over 90 per cent power.’

Imagine what it’s like to wipe out in a 42m superyacht at just short of 70 knots. Staluppi admits it was ‘Very scary’. But even short of maximum power, The World Is Not Enough is a very impressive motor yacht.

‘Sport-fishing boats had started doing 42 knots, 44 knots, and some of the smaller boats did 50 miles an hour… We would go by those boats, I would have a cocktail in my hand, a nice martini and give the people a “how you doing?” Nobody could believe it.’

Staluppi believes that, pound for pound, it’s still the fastest boat out there.

It was Staluppi’s last really quick boat; since then, Millennium Super Yachts has changed direction.

‘We decided to build yachts for luxury, and the new boats we’re building for charter more than for resale. I see a nice business in the charter market.’

Since The World Is Not Enough there has been Casino Royale, a 49m Christensen, and Quantum of Solace, a 52m Benetti. The newest boat is another Benetti, the widely profiled 61m Diamonds Are Forever.

‘We’re intending to charter that boat three to four months a year. My ultimate goal, depending on the way the economy goes, is to have two or three of these boats for charter.’

The new business occupies a lot of Staluppi’s attention: ‘You have to be hands-on to make it work properly.’

He has two partners to help him run Atlantic Auto Group, which occupies about 50 per cent of his time, with the boats taking up the rest of a 14-hour day, six day a week routine. He also believes the marine industry has plenty it could learn from the car retail trade.

‘The boating business needs to learn how to handle customers like we do in the car business – more customer-friendly building of yachts would make a big change, and I see some of the brokers starting to use car dealer techniques.’

It’s not just the sales and customer relations that make a Staluppi boat special, though: the engineering that supported his early career is still very much his thing.

‘What we bring to a shipyard, no other owner can bring,’ he asserts.

In Staluppi’s boats the plumbing will work, the air-conditioning will vent and drain properly, and you won’t have to ‘rip half the boat apart to get at a pipe’.

But even if everyone starts thinking about it that way, there’s no doubt John Staluppi will still find the method to build remarkable, noteworthy boats.

Born in Brooklyn, native New Yorker, John Staluppi started his life from humble beginnings. His father, Francis, was a hard working electrician who worked two jobs to make ends meet and his mother Millie was a homemaker. It was the 1950's - the golden years of the American automobile. There would never be another era like it and John Staluppi was fortunate enough to have witnessed the innovation, imagination, and vision in the automotive industry. Even though his father encouraged him to become an electrician, John was already bitten by the car bug. His father did, however, teach John the value of quality, hard work, family and friends. John went for the American dream and had the courage to do what he really loved – to be a part of the automotive industry in America.

He was rebellious and had a run in with the law in his youth, but was able to move forward towards his dream. First, he started out as a 16 year old mechanic. John was motivated and talented and soon became an expert in cars. It was at this time that his dad recognized John's exceptional drive and decided to help. His father took out a loan so his son could run a Sunoco station. John Staluppi is incredibly grateful to his father for his support and guidance during that time. Through creative marketing, John was able to make this and other gas stations a success. With these successes and practical experiences, he was able to take a risk on a venture called Honda - an unknown name at the time. John Staluppi was, however, able to see it's potential. Within a decade of hard work, he owned close to 20 dealerships and the Honda name took off in the United States. His commitment to Honda during this time, made him an integral part of shaping the automotive industry. The next venture for John Staluppi was Hyundai, another solid success. The Hyundai investment showcased his business philosophy - to stay with quality franchises, focus on a particular market and try to get the best people. Through all successes, John Staluppi always made sure he put people first. In fact, John is proud that there is a sign in all his dealerships that reads "Every visitor to our dealership is an honored guest in our home, every day, every time, without fail, no exceptions". This statement represents his commitment to his customers over the years.

Philanthropy

John Staluppi 's successes were never just for him. He vowed that if ever really made it - he would help those less fortunate. He grew up with an intimate knowledge of people who have a tough life - and now he feels an obligation to help needy people have an easier life in some way. The list of charities and fundraisers that John is involved with is extensive -from Hospice, National Kidney Registry, to Make a Wish Foundation - John Staluppi says that each charity event keeps him down to earth. When a child hugs him for granting his wish (Make a Wish Foundation) or when he can provide state of the art wheelchairs for spinal cord injury victims (Darrell Gwynn Foundation) - John Staluppi says “ I hope this is my legacy.”

1. World Is Not Enough - Millennium Superyachts - 70 Knots The fastest yacht in the world reaches a record-breaking top speed of around 70 knots. The Milennium 140  World Is Not Enough  has retained the title of the world’s fastest yacht since she was delivered in 2004 to her owner and one of the most public superyacht owners in the world, John Staluppi. Incredibly for a superyacht of this size,  World Is Not Enough  is a fully fledged and superyacht at 42.4m, complete with advanced audio-visual systems and accommodation for 10 guests in 5 luxurious cabins. 

The superyacht achieves its racing speeds by virtue of an all-aluminium build, V-shaped hull, and two 18VP185 Paxman Diesel engines providing 5300 hp each combined with twin Lycoming TF40 turbine jet engines able to generate a total power of 20.000 HP. The resulting effect is an extremely streamlined, exhilarating and comfortable feel as the yacht cuts through the water, offering minimal noise levels and vibration as she does.

Barrett-Jackson Auction Sets Records In Palm Beach

Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions, was a star-studded event, featuring celebrity, record attendance, record auction sales and the largest number of registered bidders for any Palm Beach auction. Three impressive collections were sold at the 16th annual auction, highlighted by renowned collector and philanthropist John Staluppi’s highly coveted Cars of Dreams vehicles, which all sold at No Reserve. Celebrities who flocked to the four-day auction included Jimmy De Martini, fiddler with the Zac Brown Band, as well as Hollywood icon Burt Reynolds, who greeted fans, signed autographs and encouraged bidding on the block for three Pontiac Trans Ams. Other celebrity guests included actor Alfie Wise, North Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera, NASCAR legend Rick Hendrick and former NFL wide receiver Reggie Wayne. In total, 692 vehicles sold, nearly all at No Reserve, for more than $38.3 million, while 380 pieces of automobilia brought in over $702,000, and $450,000 was raised through the sale of charity vehicles, bringing the total auction sales to more than $39.4 million. This year’s auction also attracted more than 700 new bidders, a new record for Palm Beach. For the second time, famed automobile collector John Staluppi is selling most of his automobile collection so he can start all over again.

Among all collectors of rare objects, whether they collect vintage wines, hand-crafted watches or fine crystals, the common characteristic is unwavering passion. Philanthropist and entrepreneur John Staluppi, owner of one of the most admired and notable classic car collections in the United States, is no exception. Staluppi’s Cars of Dreams Collection will be a featured auction item of Barrett-Jackson, the leader in collector car and automotive events, at the 16th Annual Palm Beach Auction, April 12–15 at the South Florida Fairgrounds. Staluppi’s collection features approximately 140 classic American cars — predominantly convertibles — from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s. This collection is recognized for the quality of the cars and for the meticulous care each of these beauties has received. So why exactly is Staluppi putting them up for auction? Dolce put the question to him in a recent interview. “It’s all about ‘the find’ with me,” says Staluppi. “I’m all about finding the cars, buying the cars and collecting the cars. I’m not a long-range holder on anything. Even in the stock market, when I feel like selling — winning or losing, I’m selling. I enjoy finding the cars, bidding on the cars, buying the cars and working on the cars.” This might sound like a surprising philosophy, but Staluppi can’t be wrong. After all, from his start as a gas station mechanic in Brooklyn, New York, he has built a billion-dollar automotive dealership empire that employs more than 3,000 people. “Even though my family were electrical contractors, I had no interest in putting my hand in a plug and getting a shock,” recalls Staluppi. “I always loved cars and I was a very good mechanic, and always wanted to open my own shop. So my family took out a mortgage on the home and helped me open my first gas station. That’s how I progressed.” “I’M ALL ABOUT FINDING THE CARS, BUYING THE CARS AND COLLECTING THE CARS” Inside every one of Staluppi’s car dealerships is a sign that summarizes his outlook on his business and toward his customers. It reads, “Every visitor to our dealership is an honoured guest in our home.” “Car dealerships can be very intimidating environments for most people, as you’re walking in to buy an expensive item — probably the second-most expensive item, next to a home,” says Staluppi. “We want people to be relaxed. My guys do not say, ‘Can I help you?’ They say, ‘Good afternoon, how are you? My name is John, what’s yours?’ This makes people feel a little bit more comfortable. So that’s why we have that sign: so the customer knows how we want to treat people.” Staluppi has been a car collector for decades. GM and Chevrolet offered two first retail production Corvette models for auction at Barrett-Jackson today raising a total of $2.325 million to benefit military veterans.

First up on the auction block was the Corvette Carbon 65 Edition coupe signed by President George W. Bush was bought by John Staluppi, owner of Atlantic Automotive Group, for $1.4 million. The proceeds will benefit the Bush Center’s Military Service Initiative. The primary goal of the Military Service Initiative is to ensure post-9/11 veterans and their families make successful transitions to civilian life with a focus on gaining meaningful employment and overcoming the invisible wounds of war.

The bidding for Team Red Jacket’s car started at $10,000 and quickly quintupled, zooming past the auction’s $9,000 record for a student-restored car, Harris said he was told.

“We were excited and happy and emotional all at the same time,” Breanna said. “Most of us didn’t even think it would go past $18,000 or $20,000, but then it just kept going up.”

As the bids flowed, so did the tears.

“We all cried,” Breanna said.

73m James Bond-Inspired Superyacht 'Quantum of Solace' SOLD For $60 Million

Launched by Turquoise Yachts over a decade ago, the iconic 72.6m superyacht 'Quantum of Solace' has been sold once again and is due to be handed over to her new owner.

Listed for sale with Peter Thompson at Ahoy Club , FGI Yacht Group was also on hand to assist with Vice President Frank Grzeszczak Jr representing the buyer.

Quantum of Solace was previously owned by John Staluppi, Founder of Atlantic Auto Group. Staluppi has owned 21 yachts over the course of 30 years, all of which are named after the films in the James Bond Series.

Staluppi's second yacht, Octopussy , is officially the fastest superyacht in the world as of today, with a top speed of 61 mph (98 kph).

Upon her launch in 2012, she was the largest and most technologically advanced superyacht ever built by Turquoise Yachts . As one of the defining projects of the shipyard, she is still inspiring new designs there today.

H2 Yacht Design helped to collaborate on creating her strong graphic lines, flowing curves and an interior, which creates a clean and modern atmosphere when on board.

Built with steel hull and aluminium superstructure, her beam stretches across 12.23 metres to provide an open layout which introduces design elements such as her unique double-height atrium in the main salon.

Other such elements include the spa, which is positioned next to a sea platform which extends 90 degrees over the water to bring owners closer to the ocean. Here, those on board can make the most of a steamroom, shower, spa pool, treatment room and a spacious area for yoga. 

Spread over four levels, she is replete with a range of contemporary facilities including a built-in DJ booth, a touch-and-go helipad, and spacious living areas. On the lower deck, there is an expansive beach club with a fold-down door and access to the Asian-inspired spa.

These open spaces feature a relaxed, comfortable yet modern approach to interior styling, with a mixture of light woods and fabrics with contemporary furniture moving through the various characters of the yacht’s individual areas. Furnishes are highly elegant and rich, as one would expect from a James Bond tribute yacht.

Matching tenders sit in the lateral garages, equipped with cranes and hydraulically activated doors for easy launching and retrieval from water.

Several morel formal and informal dining areas can also be added, both indoors and outside, a private cinema, a small concert hall, and more areas for entertaining and socialising. 

Quantum of Solace offers accommodation for up to 12 guests in 6 cabins; consisting of a full-beam Owner’s suite as well as five guest cabins on the main deck. 

The owner’s suite is located on the upper deck and features his and hers bathrooms, two opulent dressing rooms and a balcony on either side. Six staterooms can be found on the main deck, all with walk-in closets and stunning interior design by H2 Yacht Design.

Born in 1947 in Brooklyn, native New Yorker, John Staluppi started his life from humble beginnings. His father, Francis, was a hard working electrician who worked two jobs to make ends meet and his mother Millie was a homemaker.

It was the 1950's - the golden years of the American automobile. There would never be another era like it and John Staluppi was fortunate enough to have witnessed the innovation, imagination, and vision in the automotive industry.

Even though his father encouraged him to become an electrician, John was already bitten by the car bug. His father did, however, teach John the value of quality, hard work, family and friends. John went for the American dream and had the courage to do what he really loved – to be a part of the automotive industry in America.

He was rebellious and had a run in with the law in his youth, but was able to move forward in a constructive manner. First, he started out as a 16 year old mechanic. John was motivated and talented and soon became an expert in cars. It was at this time that his dad recognized John's exceptional drive and decided to help. His father took out a loan so his son could run a Sunoco station. John Staluppi is incredibly grateful to his father for his support and guidance during that time.

Through creative marketing, John was able to make this and other gas stations a success. With these successes and practical experiences, he was able to take a risk on a venture called Honda - an unknown name at the time. John Staluppi was, however, able to see it's potential. Within a decade of hard work, he owned close to 20 dealerships and the Honda name took off in the United States.

His commitment to Honda during this time, made him an integral part of shaping the automotive industry. Next was Hyundai, another solid success. The Hyundai investment showcased his business philosophy - to stay with quality franchises, focus on a particular market and try to get the best people.

Through all successes, John Staluppi always made sure he put people first. In fact, John is proud that there is a sign in all his dealerships that reads "Every visitor to our dealership is an honored guest in our home, every day, every time, without fail, no exceptions". This statement represents his commitment to his customers over the years.

John Staluppi also expanded his interest into the yachting industry, since he had always enjoyed boating and sportfishing in the 70's and 80's on Long Island. John Staluppi had the motivation and character to succeed at anything he put his mind to. So he created magnificent Millennium Super Yachts, a line of custom yachts that is unsurpassed in creativity, beauty and speed.

However, John Staluppi 's successes were never just for him. He vowed that if ever really made it - he would help those less fortunate. He grew up with an intimate knowledge of people who have a tough life - and now he feels an obligation to help needy people have an easier life in some way. The list of charities and fundraisers that John is involved with is long. , National Kidney Registry , to Make a Wish Foundation , John Staluppi says that each charity event keeps him down to earth. When a child hugs him for granting his wish ( Make a Wish Foundation ) or when he can provide state of the art wheelchairs for spinal cord injury victims (Darrell Gwynn Foundation) - John Staluppi says “ I hope this is my legacy.”

1. World Is Not Enough - Millennium Superyachts - 70 Knots The fastest yacht in the world reaches a record-breaking top speed of around 70 knots. The Milennium 140  World Is Not Enough  has retained the title of the world’s fastest yacht since she was delivered in 2004 to her owner and one of the most public superyacht owners in the world, John Staluppi. Incredibly for a superyacht of this size,  World Is Not Enough  is a fully fledged and superyacht at 42.4m, complete with advanced audio-visual systems and accommodation for 10 guests in 5 luxurious cabins. 

The superyacht achieves its racing speeds by virtue of an all-aluminium build, V-shaped hull, and two 18VP185 Paxman Diesel engines providing 5300 hp each combined with twin Lycoming TF40 turbine jet engines able to generate a total power of 20.000 HP. The resulting effect is an extremely streamlined, exhilarating and comfortable feel as the yacht cuts through the water, offering minimal noise levels and vibration as she does.
