Basic specs..

The Granada 31 is equipped with a fin keel. The fin keel is the most common keel and provides splendid manoeuvrability. The downside is that it has less directional stability than a long keel.

The keel is made of iron. Many people prefer lead keel in favour of iron. The main argument is that lead is much heavier than iron and a lead keel can therefore be made smaller which again result in less wet surface, i.e. less drag. In fact iron is quite heavy, just 30% less heavy than lead, so the advantage of a lead keel is often overstated. As the surface of a fin type keel is just a fraction of the total wet surface, the difference between an iron keel and a lead keel can in reality be ignored for cruising yachts.

Granada 31 can enter most marinas as the draft is just about 1.75 - 1.85 meter (5.74 - 6.04 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.

The boat is typically equipped with an inboard Volvo Penta MD7 diesel engine at 13.0 hp (9 kW), which gives a max speed about 4.3 knots.

Sold: Granada 31 Slender sailing yacht with a splendid and smart designed wooden interior

General: The Granada 31 is a well-built sailing yacht from Scandinavia with a slender hull shape. As a result, the Granada is well balanced and has pleasant sailing characteristics. The low flush cabin roof gives her a sporty appearance. The navigation instruments are clearly visible from the tiller and all lines are led back to the cockpit. The sail quiver is complete with mainsail, genoa II, jib, and storm jib with Hanks. In 2004 the old engine was replaced by a new Vetus 16 hp diesel engine, while the saildrive manchet was replaced at the same time. The boat has been well maintained by the current owner since 1994, ship documentation is complete.

Interior: The woodwork in the interior is lovely and of good quality. There is plenty of handy closet space throughout the boat. The saloon offers ample seating with a handy folding table, which can also be turned up and away. The headroom 1.85m is good for a boat of this length. The seating area on the port side can be converted into a double bed. The back supports of both settees can be raised, for a wider sleeping area. Next to the cabin entrance is a fully equipped galley with gimballed Origo stove and cold running water. To starboard is a quarterberth, with a chart table above that slides away after use. The GPS, chartplotter and VHF radio are also placed here. The private front cabin has a double V-bed. Between the saloon and the front cabin is the Heads with pump toilet and washbasin on port side. Opposit the Heads is even more closet space. A harmonica door closes off the saloon from the forepeak.

Bei der padedö II handelt es sich um eine Granada 31.

Yacht-Test Beurteilung:

"Die Granada 31 ist in erster Linie eine sportlich zu segelnde, schnelle Yacht mit sorgfältigem Teakholzausbau und mit guten Ideen bei der Raumgestaltung. Bei viel Wind ist es mit der Gemütlichkeit unter und auf Deck vorbei, denn die Granada schiebt wegen ihrer großen Segelfläche schnell Lage. Damit die guten und ausgeglichenen Segeleigenschaften zum Tragen kommen können, erfordern Segelführung, Trimm und Ruder viel Aufmerksamkeit und Können."

Die padedö II wurde im Herbst 2009 verkauft. 

Während unseres Arbeitsdienstes im Jahr 1995 sollte das alte Vereinsboot des Katharineums, die "Kathrin", zersägt und entsorgt werden. Schon jahrelang hatte sie kein Wasser mehr unter dem Kiel gesehen und Liegegebühren waren seit Jahren nicht an den Verein bezahlt worden. So sollte sie nun ihren letzten Gang gehen ... Wir sollten diese Arbeit übernehmen, doch brachten wir es nicht übers Herz, das Boot zu zersägen. Stattdessen kümmerten wir uns um die Eigentumsverhältnisse (mittlerweile war das Boot, ein Soling, in den Besitz des Kinderheims Wakenitzhof übergegangen) und kauften einige Woche später das "Wrack". 

Viele Stunden Arbeit und Enthusiasmus wurden hineingesteckt, Toplack gestrichen, das Rigg ausgebessert, der Boden generalüberholt und vieles mehr. Das "Stück für zwei" – nämlich für Ralf und Heiner – strahlte im neuen Glanz und wurde auf den eingedeutschten Namen "padedö" getauft und wieder zu Wasser gelassen.

Alte Dame geht auf Reisen

Wer kennt sie noch, die alte Dame namens Kathrin, die fast 30 Jahre ihr Zuhause im SVT-Hafen hatte, hier ihr gesamtes bisheriges Dasein fristete und vielen Schülern des Katharineums unter Aufsicht des kürzlich verstorbenen Kameraden Schröder das Erlernen des Segelsports ermöglichte. Mit den Jahren wurde sie langsam alt und grau und die Jugend verlor das Interesse an ihr. Runzelig mit Moosansatz lag sie in der hintersten Ecke des SVT-Geländes. Aber es steckte noch immer sehr viel jugendlicher Tatendrang in ihr. So unterzog sie sich eines Tages einem Facelifting. Gleich zwei Schönheitschirurgen waren nötig, die diesen Eingriff an ihr vornahmen. Auch ein paar neue Segelkleider ließ sie sich schenken, second hand zwar, aber sie "putzten ungemein". Aus Dankbarkeit darüber folgte sie nun ihren neuen Herren treu überall hin. Sie hörte fortan auf den Namen „padedö”. Über fünf Jahre hielt sie auf zahlreichen Mittwochsregatten mit der Konkurrenz gut mit. Von müden Knochen keine Spur! Auch arge Strapazen, die man ihr abverlangte, wie z. B. ins Salzhaff nach Rerik, nach Wismar oder gar bei Windstärke 8 über die rauhe Ostsee nach Großenbrode, machte sie mit ohne Streik. 

Doch wie das Leben so spielt – Männer sind treulos. Ihre Herren haben sich nun in eine andere Dame verguckt, die natürlich etwas jünger und attraktiver ist. Sie ließ allerdings den Kopf nicht hängen. Sie begab sich erneut auf Partnersuche. Auf eine Kontaktanzeige meldete sich sogleich ein junger Mann, der sie jetzt nach Holland entführen möchte. So geht die alte Dame noch einmal auf eine weite Reise, allerdings nicht zu Wasser, sondern auf einem Trailer.

Ekke Nekkepenn

Auf dem Gelände der Staack-Werft stand hoch und trocken, aber ziemlich allein gelassen, ein Waarschip 570 mit dem Namen "Ekke Nekkepenn". Noch in Köln wohnend schien uns (Renate und Ralf) anfänglich die Realisierung unseres Traumes völlig unmöglich. Aber dann wurde Sie unser erstes eigenes Segelboot:

Länge: 5,70 m Breite: 2,45 m Gewicht: 750 kg Motor: AB 1,3 PS Volvo-Penta ohne Rückwärtsgang! (Originalton Volvo-Penta: "Es handelt sich um einen sparsamen und leistungsstarken Motor – wenn er anspringt!!!") Segel: Groß, Genua I, II, III, Sturmfock, Spi Kojen: 3 und eine Babykoje.

Bei den ersten Segelversuchen zerrte uns die riesige Segelfläche bei geringem Gewicht in arge Schräglagen, aber mit der Zeit lernten wir früh zu reffen und die kleineren Segel ebenso zu nutzen, wie die großen. Unvergessen ist der Surf nur mit Groß auf dem Großenbroder Binnensee direkt nach einem Gewitter, bei dem wir mit mehr als 10 kn auf die Einfahrt der Marina zu sausten.

Die Seetauglichkeit demonstrierte unsere Ekke Nekkepenn bei unserer Hochzeitsreise in die dänische Inselwelt. Bei der Tour von Marstal zurück nach Fehmarn rauschten wir über 2 bis 3 Meter hohe Wellen bei 6 bis 7 Bft mit doppelt gerefftem Groß und Sturmfock, nachdem wir bereits vier Tage im Hafen von Marstal eingeweht waren.

Auch unserer 13 Wochen alter Sohn liebte das Segeln, da man unter Deck in der Babykoje wunderschön einschlafen konnte. Nur wenn der Motor angeworfen wurde, musste der Motorhebel mit der kleinen Faust gehalten werden, weil das so schön vibrierte.

Unser Liegeplatz an der Staackwerft forderte unserem Boot einiges ab; bei Niedrigwasser hingen wir in den Seilen und aus der Kokerei auf dem Metallhüttengelände rieselten tagtäglich Ruß- und Kokspartikel auf das Deck.

Nachdem wir für einige Jahre in der Neustädter Ancora-Werft gelegen hatten, trennten wir uns 1993 von unserem kleinen Boot, weil es einfach zu klein war für unsere Familie und es begann ein Zeitabschnitt des Charterns von Yachten vom Stockholmer Schärengarten bis nach Mamaris in der Türkei.
