Brenta 24 is a 24 ′ 6 ″ / 7.5 m monohull sailboat designed by Luca Brenta and built by International Composites (ITA) starting in 1996.

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

• SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
• D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Ballast / Displacement * 100

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

• D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
• LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )

The keel is made of lead. Compared with iron, lead has the advantage of being 44% heavier, which allows a smaller keel and hence less water resistance and higher speed.

The boat can enter most marinas as the draft is just about 1.63 - 1.73 meter (5.35 - 5.65 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.

What is Theoretical Maximum Hull Speed?

The theoretical maximal speed of a displacement boat of this length is 6.4 knots. The term "Theoretical Maximum Hull Speed" is widely used even though a boat can sail faster. The term shall be interpreted as above the theoretical speed a great additional power is necessary for a small gain in speed.

The immersion rate is defined as the weight required to sink the boat a certain level. The immersion rate for Brenta 24 is about 109 kg/cm, alternatively 612 lbs/inch. Meaning: if you load 109 kg cargo on the boat then it will sink 1 cm. Alternatively, if you load 612 lbs cargo on the boat it will sink 1 inch.

First built in Rimini, Italy, starting in 1999, there are now more than 50 BluSail 24s in Europe. North American distributor James Kaspersetz expects to import the first two boats into the United States this summer with another two going to Canada.

Designer Luca Brenta wanted a fast, affordable one-design class. Following these guidelines, the boat is constructed with vinylester resin and fiberglass vacuum bonded over an Airex core. The steel keel has a lead bulb, and class rules specify an aluminum mast, Dacron main, and 105-percent jib. The $31,000 price includes sails. The 470-sq. ft. asymmetric spinnaker is extra.

The boat features a V-berth and two quarter berths with sitting headroom. While not yet rated, the PHRF rating for the BluSail 24 is expected to range from 130 to 135.

The new B34 project is the first of the new generation of daysailer boats designed by Luca Brenta, for the pure essence of sailing. At LBY we say “the best comes out of dreams that you have deep inside”.

The mission and concept behind the project, is to conceive a monohull boat of 10 mt., a very fast boat on the water in real time, no rating tricks that compromise water lines, elegant sleek look, a yacht simple to handle also single handed or double handed. No need for crew, if owners want a daysailing tour on his own.

Water lines take inspiration to the bigger custom boats designed by Luca Brenta in the last years, with their distinct elegant look. You will be able to tell is a Brenta boat from distance. The construction will take advantage of the most advanced technologies, with infused hybrid carbon fabric coupled to 100% carbon structure and reinforcement, with epoxy resins post cured. A must for a light and stiff boat. The T keel will be made in weldox steel, paired with a lead T bulb. An optional high modulus carbon mast and boom is available , coupled to rod rigging and many standard high teach, latest generation racing accessories complete the performance and look of deck layout. The upwind sail surface is around 68 sqm, while reaching with a top mast head gennaker will top up at 180 sqm. thanks also to the integrated elegant 1 mt. bowsprit. Fractional halyard for heavier wind gennaker also available. Also on the cruising side many options are available, as a removable cockpit table, a bimini over cockpit, spray hood, hot shower in cockpit, removable swimming ladder.

B34 is a daysailer with weekender capability for the more sportive sailors. The light and technological advanced construction , with a minimal and light interior, sleek and fast water lines, meets the concept of a pure racing cruising boat , therefore we see that the B34 will also can be read as a “Luxury Racer”.

Above Decks

The B34 has an very generous cockpit that can accommodate 6 people, sitting on the two lateral benches, standard electric winches for trimming halyards and sail sheet available. The jib feature a self tacking track , while the integrated hull bowsprit allows simple lunching of a Code Zero or Gennaker, when the wind angle widens reaching.

Below Decks

The interiors will reflect the minimalistic and elegant look approach of Luca Brenta. Starting on the bow we find a twin bed, then coming aft in the mast area we have a garment locker on the left side and wc toilet hidden in a bench furniture with over hanging locker. Coming aft in the central section we find two sofa/beds with two half size forniture on each side that host a fridge and optional cooking stove and sink on the other side.

Bente 24 – tested and reviewed

You might wonder what the designers of a boat made of hemp were smoking, but the new bente 24 makes a lot of sense, as sam jefferson discovers.

It is refreshing to see a young boatbuilder with real ambition to bring yachting back to its roots and open it up to a younger audience again. At the heart of this seemingly left-field venture is Alexander Vrolijk; his father is one Rolf Vrolijk, one half of the judel/vrolijk design house, who has drawn the hull of the Bente 24.

At 24ft (7.3m) long she is aimed at being a sort of ‘people’s yacht’ – a Volkswagen of the sea. She’s an uncomplicated boat, but she had to be quick enough to race and comfortable enough to cruise. “I wanted a boat you could eat and sleep on but was also fun to sail,” says Alexander.

The boat I tested was the first of a new ‘green’ line, made out of hemp. She had a larger sail plan specifically for sailing on the lakes in fickle airs and a lifting keel but the standard is a fixed, deep T-shaped keel and the rudder is transom hung.

The boat is entirely open plan and up forward is a large double berth/ lounging area. The boat I was on had precious little else, but heads, a galley compartment and further berths aft can also be built in.

On deck, things are very simple: the cockpit is open aft, with the mainsheet clipped to a simple rope loop which old gaffers would probably call a ‘horse’.

The boat comes with an outboard on a bracket as standard and this particular model had an electric Torqeedo motor.

She was quick and nicely poised on the helm with plenty of feel and enough weather helm to keep it interesting. As the promised breeze filled in, she was, if anything, slightly overpowered.

She was close winded and accelerated quickly off the mark, easily hitting 6kt-plus while her wide aft sections allowed plenty of pace and control off the wind. The good news was that she wasn’t twitchy or fussy, plus you could throw her around a bit and enjoy her.

Time for a bigger boat? Check out what the Palm Beach International Boat Show has to offer

Whether you're the son of a son of a sailor or even just love that song and want to know more, the granddaddy of all boating events is happening this weekend along the West Palm Beach waterfront.

That's right, the Palm Beach International Boat Show is back for four glorious days along Flagler Drive.

This will be the 42nd annual event, and organizers promise it will be bigger and better than ever.

There will be $1.2 billion worth of Bond-worthy super yachts, cruisers, sportfishing boats, center consoles and even inflatables to see and tour, along with attractions and activities highlighting the latest in boat engines, motors and accessories. There will also be the latest fishing gear and even fishing seminars.

Yes, it's a big event, but don't be intimidated. In fact, here are seven fun facts about the show:

How many boats can this boat show boast?

There will be more than 800 boats on display along the floating docks in the Intracoastal Waterway.

What is the biggest boat at the boat show?

With a length of 236 feet (and 38 feet wide), Casino Royale takes the title for largest boat this year. This gorgeous yacht, designed for her exterior lines by Francesco Paszkowski with interior by Paszkowski’s interior lead designer Margherita Casprini, is also one of the most technically advanced yachts in her category. Casino Royale is powered by twin Caterpillar 3516B main engines and has an impressive top speed of 17.5 knots. You can put your checkbooks away for this one, however, as she is only on display and not for sale.

This boat is the boat show's most epensive

Built in 2022 and 196-feet long, Come Together is listed for $59,950,000. This expedition yacht was delivered by the Dutch shipyard Amels and features interior styling by British designer Winch Design. It can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests in six cabins along with 14 crew members.

Are spectators allowed to go on the boats?

To go onboard the yachts and superyachts, visitors must make an appointment with the brokers. For the smaller boats, however, spectators can come onboard if they are interested in buying.

What is the smallest boat?

The smallest boat being displayed on the water is a runabout boat that is 22-feet-6-inches long, and 5-feet-11 wide. It is manufactured by Hermes.

Eating inside the boat show

The show will have dozens of food concessions featuring almost anything you could be craving, from Greek gyros to woodfired picanha, authentic street tacos and hand-crafted burgers. On a seafood diet? Enjoy fresh stone crab claws, calamari, oysters, and much more! Vegetarian, vegan, and/or gluten-free? No problem; they have options for you as well.

And libations at the boat show?

Of course there will be drinks. To be precise, there will be four bars for general admission guests, including two floating cocktail barges: the Goslings Island Bar and the Anheuser-Busch Barge. In addition there will be multiple bars in the Windward VIP Club.
