From the Danube to the Côte d’Azur with the BAVARIA R55

The overland journeys that a BAVARIA covers from the yard in Giebelstadt, via one of the more than 77 BAVARIA YACHTS dealers worldwide, to the customer are sometimes even more spectacular than any voyage. This was the situation for a BAVARIA R55, the largest motor yacht from BAVARIA YACHTS, on her journey from Marina Saal located near the Danube to its mooring at the French Mediterranean coast at the end of March.

The dimensions of a BAVARIA R55 are already striking on the water. Including the bathing platform, the flagship of the BAVARIA YACHTS motor boat fleet is almost 18 metres long. With a width of 4.75 metres and a height of more than 6.50 metres from the keel to the radar on the flybridge, the BAVARIA R55 forms an impressive image in the marina. Transporting the R55 on German motorways with their bridges, through tunnels and on narrow cross‐country roads in France is a real challenge for any haulier.

At the end of March, a brand‐new BAVARIA R55 made the more than 1200‐kilometre overland journey directly from the showroom at Boote Yachten Marina Saal to Port Napoleon between Montpellier and Toulon. More precisely, two heavy loads took to the road because it was necessary to remove the flybridge to clear the bridges. The semitrailer for one of the two trucks was already fully laden with the flybridge, well packed in a crate. The R55 was lashed securely to the second semitrailer, after also removing the propulsion systems to reduce the clearance height for the bridges as much as possible.

"Just preparing the transport was nerve‐racking. Loading an 18‐metre yacht onto a truck and then securing it for transport is not a quick task. We spent weeks on perfect preparation‟,  reports Peter Seifert, General Manager of Boote Yachten Marina Saal GmbH.

On March 22, the two trucks and their semitrailers with the R55 could then set off for France. Overnight it went over the German motorways, constantly secured by escort vehicles and the police. In France, the transport was stopped and checked time and again and also got accompanied on narrow cross‐country roads. It often passed close to buildings, over junctions and up and down difficult gradients. The transport team had to drive every kilometre with maximum concentration.

"As the R55 arrived undamaged in Port Napoleon four days later and we were able to start unloading without delay, we were obviously over the moon. We had a tight schedule because the new owner wanted to drive the R55 to her final mooring in Nice a few days later and a strong Mistral with wind speeds of over 90 km/h was forecast‟, explains Christian Wagner, Head of Sales at Boote Yachten Marina Saal GmbH.

The BAVARIA boat specialists Slavo Korejwo and Stefan Emrich travelled directly from the BAVARIA YACHTS yard to the Côte d’Azur to provide assistance. The two experts, who undertake such tricky tasks for BAVARIA YACHTS worldwide, are familiar with every corner of the BAVARIA R55 and have often mounted a flybridge on a BAVARIA R55. At the same time, it was also necessary to mount the two propulsion systems again and prepare the R55 for final acceptance. Work went on around the clock until finally the big moment arrived and the owner of the new BAVARIA R55 was able to take possession for the transfer to Nice.

"Undertaking a sea trial together with the owner is always the best moment and is a reward for the stressful days of preparation for delivery. Our team in Saal, all those involved in the transport, our colleagues at BAVARIA YACHTS and the assembly team on site did a really good job‟, resumes Peter Seifert at the end of the journey of the BAVARIA R55 from the Danube to the Mediterranean.

Description

The debut of the Bavaria R55 motor yacht took place in January 2017 at the International Boat Show in Dusseldorf, where it received the status of the largest yacht ever issued by the Bavaria shipyard. The ship was designed by the shipyard's design bureau, together with the renowned design studio J & J Design, as well as the Integrated Quality Control Management Team. The yacht received continuous glazing of the entire cabin, a large number of opening portholes, as well as a glass door in the stern of the vessel, which serves as an exit to the terrace. This model, the world's first sedan-style yacht with two decks - top and bottom. The interior is finished in teak in light tones and is available in several configurations to choose from.

For relaxation, there are wide deck chairs in the bow of the vessel, a spacious flybridge, as well as a shaded terrace in the stern, with a folding table and seats, directly from which you can go to the folding hydraulic transom, providing convenient access to water. On the flybridge there is a full-fledged control post with two seats, sunbeds, a small dining area with a grill, a sink and a wind farm. The Bavaria R55 has a dining area, a control room and a kitchen with a stove, sink, oven, fridge, and storage space for groceries. On the lower deck there are four double cabins with a separate bathroom and shower in each of them.

For the driving performance of the yacht, I am responsible for two diesel engines from Volvo, with a total capacity of 1200 hp or 1500 hp, at the customer’s choice. The fuel tank is designed for 2000 liters of fuel, and the fresh water tank is designed for 600 liters.

Bavaria Yachts celebrates its 40th anniversary with the launch of the Bavaria R55 Fly and the Bavaria E34

The celebration of the Bavaria Yachts’ 40th anniversary as well as the official presentation of the major achievements and future planes of the German boatyard at Boot Dusseldorf came not as surprise.

The strengths of the Bavaria E34 had already emerged in the Sedan model, where the shipyard focused attention in how large closed indoor spaces or a well-sheltered cockpit were not the expression of a boat exclusively designed to sail northern seas but also a great opportunity to enjoy the sunny Mediterranean.  Spacious volumes , moderate engine options and wide outer spaces indeed contribute to make the E34 Fly the perfect boat to enjoy family holidays and quiet cruises in full contact with the sea.

Interiors include a bright saloon , completely enveloped by a 360-degree window, and sleeping quarters below. More specifically, the raised pilot station is centrally located  while the saloon and toilets develop around it. The galley is located on the left while a table and a small sofa are positioned forward, benefiting from a clever arrangement of spaces where nothing is left to chance .

Sleeping quarters consist of two cabins, both with en-suite bathrooms . The master cabin can be equipped with a separate shower compartment or an additional storage room.

Power comes from Volvo Penta engines, available in 110hp and 220hp versions with moderate changes in purchase price as well as the possibility to choose between fully electric and eco-friendly diesel-electric hybrid drive.

Completely different are the inclinations, and the expectations of the German giant, for the new flagship: the Bavaria R55 (in the opening picture). Announced last year and destined to mark an important turning point for the motor division of the boatyard, the boat was presented in Dusseldorf in the Fly version. The sleek lines of the new creation testify a considerable design effort and the desire to “go further” in the field of motorboats.

The deck layout features sober clear lines , with a large bathing platform at the stern which facilitates the tender launch while offering instant access to the sea. A small staircase on the left leads to the cockpit . Well-sheltered from the flybridge , the latter is furnished with a large sofa, a table and a wide glass door and it represents the natural extension of the indoor saloon. The bow section consists of a spacious sunbed and a comfortable couch.

Side windows on board the Bavaria R55 are spectacular and literally flood interiors with a great amount of natural light . The first environment offered by interiors is a full-beam galley with counter-posed pieces of furniture. Two steps lead to the lounge which replicates the same décor thanks to two counter-posed leather sofas. The table is “enveloped” by the left sofa while, behind the right one, a large pop-up tv cabinet completes the convivial area .

The driving console with its enveloping grey-leather pilot seats has been moved to starboard in order to leave room for a ladder leading to interiors. Here, luxury yet not exaggerated design finds its highest expression, with the master cabin occupying the whole central portion of the hull and equipped with en-suite bathroom. The guest suite is located at the bow while a third twin-bedded cabin is positioned on the starboard side. Both cabins feature en-suite bathrooms. Furniture is offered in two different versions of wood: black walnut and clear durmast . Lighting architecture, exquisite fabrics and leather details shape a highly sophisticated environment.

The Bavaria R55 is powered by an IPS propulsion system with either two 600hp or two 725hp engines.

BAVARIA R55 Three cabins. One dream.

Three cabins with three separate, full bathrooms for a maximum of privacy – yet another thing that makes the BAVARIA R55 so unique in this class.
