The design of ZEN offers a new outlook on yachting and focuses on the true values in life: to enjoy the quality of craftsmanship and to share the richness of being.

Zen refers to meditation, to balance, harmony, relaxation, minimalism, simplicity and purity of lines. The concept of the ZEN yacht focuses on the true values in life; to enjoy the quality of craftsmanship and to share the richness of being.

Super yacht ZEN creates a new typology of yachts. Unique in its use of space, the profile breaks from the typical ‘wedding-cake’ appearance, without sacrificing any useable space. With unique features for an 80 meter yacht, such as a large beach platform, seamlessly connecting to a beach club with a spacious tender garage, with stairs from the beach area which lead to the panoramic stern lounge at the main deck, a floating volume with slanted glass façade, overlooking the beach. This lounge has a free view to three sides, and functions as both a lounge and cinema with a 4 meter-wide cinema screen. At main deck accommodation for owner’s and guests and a luxurious gym, spa and wellness area is found.

A 360-degree view through the slanted glass façade contributes to a spectacular lounge and dining area at bridge deck. The aft section of the superstructure features a stunning 13 meter lounge, in which the aft glass corners open fully to the exterior deck. The midsection has an inside-outside dining area with sliding doors to each side that can pocket fully and a skylight. Expandable balconies on both sides provide space for an aperitif. The forward section consists of a high-tech bridge with floating console and two guest settees. Outside, there is a vast and versatile exterior deck of almost 500 square meters which expands by an additional 100 square meters when the aft lounge is opened. An 8 meter swimming pool is located on the aft deck, with a large Jacuzzi on the foredeck.

Living Room

“an interior is the natural reflection of the soul”.

– Coco Chanel –

The spacious bridge deck has a central elevated skylight ceiling to create a vivid, spacious effect. Adjacent to the indoor-outdoor lounge, the dining space is equipped with a large glass façade, which can be pocketed at the sides. The deck partitions at the side can slide outwards from the hull to create an even greater outdoor deck space.

The bridge deck dining area’s central feature is the long dining table that can accommodate 14 - 16 people and which has been crafted from a massive slab of French walnut. A calming, nature-inspired custom chandelier, sandstone-clad walls and floor partitions, casted copper walls, creating a feeling of being at home and providing focus on the true values of life.

When I eat with my family and friends, it is a moment of real pleasure, when I really enjoy my life.

Every day is a journey, and the journey itself is home..

– Matsuo Basho –

The greatest gift you can give your family and the world is a healthy you.

– Joyce Meyer –

Relaxation is central to life on board ZEN. The richness of well-being and vitalization of body and soul are behind the spacious gym and spa at the main deck. At the sides of these spaces, full height glass façades can be opened to balconies, providing a fresh sea breeze and a full inside-out experience. The spa has specially designed lounge sofas, a massage table, nail and barber stations. Additionally, depending on the configuration that is selected, a snow room and a sauna are available for cooling down or heating up. The ZEN gym and spa is characterized by natural materials, warm tones and indirect lighting and is specifically designed by Sinot to create a sense of harmony and beauty, provoking feelings of relaxation and inner peace.

Seeing, feeling, thinking, believing. These are the stages of how we can change our style on the outside and our self-image on the inside.

– Stacy London –

Above the beach area, the panoramic stern lounge offers a superior experience of life at sea with its scenic view of the ocean and sight of the wake disappearing over the horizon. Featuring furnishings all custom designed by Sinot, the lounge almost stretches the width of the yacht’s beam. The area is further enhanced by the use of fine woods and other natural materials, such as the high-quality, specially selected wood veneers and the fine, integrated lighting fixtures at the vertical parts of the mullions, while additional works of art selected by Sinot complement the character of the lounge.

The panoramic stern lounge doubles as a cinema lounge. It is equipped with a four-and-a-half-meter-wide retractable cinema screen with sunblock sheers behind it, which can be stored in the ceiling. Offering the viewer an optimal cinematographic experience, the lounge features state-of-the-art fold-down ceiling speakers and custom-made sofas in soft chenille equipped with an interactive system. The floors are covered in fine silk carpeting, creating a perfect sense of unity between the panoramic stern lounge and the other spaces of the yacht.

The following Styles show the diversity in moods by only changing colors and materials.

True refuge is that which allows us to be at home, at peace, to discover true happiness.

– Tara Brach –

The VIP staterooms are a refuge for tranquility, retreat, comfort, rest and sleep. All VIP staterooms are spacious, with large floor-to-ceiling windows or slanted glass façades that not only provide abundant daylight, but also allow guests to enjoy the seascape scenery.

Natural materials with rich textures provide a tactility that stimulates the senses, a design approach continued by Sinot in the elaborate detailing of hardware and accessories.

Every time I stand before a beautiful beach, its waves seem to whisper to me: Choose the simple things and find joy in nature’s simple treasures.

– Psyche Roxas-Mendosa –

Offering immediate access to and from the water, ZEN’s full beam beach platform is ideal for relaxing, water sports, parties, and enjoying stunning views. At the sides, the platform can extend to add around 20M2to the beach deck, creating a vast platform. Custom-designed furniture by Sinot is incorporated into the circular setting, offering optimal comfort and intimacy. Service stations created in sculptured Sahara Noir natural stone can serve as a bar or cater for buffet style lunches. In the axis of the yacht, the grand staircase leads up to the main deck providing access from the water level into the yacht.

The wheelhouse reveals ZEN’s innovative nature with the incorporation of a dual steering arrangement. Undisturbed views all around are enabled by the slanting glass façade to ensure the highest standards in wheelhouse design, endorsing the bias on functionality.

The owner’s vision has become a central part of the new project Zen 80m. Talented team of Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design and Feadship have been working closely on their latest concept, prioritising a requirement of the owner – elimination of “unused” space. Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design previous clients’ feedback and Feadship’s vision for the future design have come to an agreement. Consequently, the idea of developing a two-deck design, providing interior space over full length of the bridge deck and main deck came to life.

Zen 80m Two-deck Design Concept

The super yacht features only one common lounge on board. The space for all dining, lounging, sleeping and entertainment is located along from fore to aft. The 12.8-metres beam and 13-metres long lounge eliminate wedding-cake-like look of the yacht’s decks.

Staterooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows enlighten the space and open incredible views. Zen Yachts

The ZEN50 is a game changer. World’s first series production catamaran equipped with a wingsail, it defines a new distinctive class of its own, where genuine zero-emission meets high comfort and performance, limitlessly.

Designed from scratch for ZEN Yachts by award-winning naval architect Julien Mélot , this full carbon catamaran is the ultimate essence of technology driven, high performance and luxurious, eco-friendly leisure yachting.

The blue water capable ZEN50 lightweight racing carbon hulls are combined with a huge solar roof for an unrivaled solar power vs. displacement ratio above 1:1 (18 kW / 17 tonnes), making this yacht completely energy self-sufficient. A revolutionary, fully automated, wingsail - by Ayro© - can be added as a range and speed extender. The yacht’s high capacity battery bank powers a powerful silent electric propulsion, allowing the ZEN50 to achieve 14 knots and maintain high continuous speeds in unrivaled safety and comfort, indefinitely…

The ZEN50 is offered with or without wingsail and comes in 3 main different versions: Racer, Cruiser and Explorer, each dedicated to a different usage and owner profile. We use these versions as a basis to define a final, bespoke specification for each of our valued clients and ZEN Community Members. Scroll down for more details, specifications and prices.

1st WINGSAIL series production yacht in the world!

The OceanWings32 - by Ayro© - was initially developed for Team Oracle, for the America’s Cup 2010 in Valencia. Over years, it has further been developed and automated by VPLP and was installed on Energy Observer in 2019. Two years of field feedback have allowed the Ayro team to fine tune the algorithm commanding the wingsail. The ZEN50 is the first series production leisure craft to be equipped with this fully automated wingsail. It is controlled at the touch of a finger on screens, is automatically adjusted and has several safety modes and features. The two parts of the wingsail can be hoisted and lowered independently and with the simple touch of a button. The wingsail OceanWings32 is the ideal complement for the solar roof for those wishing to cruise long distances off-shore with zero-emissions.

Greatest ratio SOLAR POWER / weight on the market

At 17 tonnes lightweight and 18,000 W of peak solar power, the ratio of the ZEN50 is at over 1 kW per displaced tonne of water or beyond 1:1 which is far beyond any other blue water CE Cat A yacht in this size range. Lots of solar power for little water to displace is the strong and healthy foundation the energy self-sufficient ZEN50 is built upon.

ZEN50 wingsail and solar powered performance zero emission electric catamaran yacht by ZEN Yachts

Performance CARBON sandwich hulls

The hulls of the ZEN50 have been designed from a blank screen for ultimate efficiency - understand minimum drag or minimal energy consumption for a range of speeds from 6 to 10 knots. Their shape is aggressive, sharp and slender. Their reverse bows cut through water like a sword cuts through butter and their curvature is reminiscent of graceful dolphin bodies. These hulls are undoubtedly of the performance type and are built with the best available composites: Carbon fibre and Corecell™. The combination of high strength, low weight and performance design allow the ZEN50 to reach speeds of up to 14 knots.

ZEN50 wingsail and solar powered performance zero emission electric catamaran yacht by ZEN Yachts

INFINITE range at high CONTINUOUS speeds

With maximized solar and wind power and minimized energy consumption… the ZEN50 can sail continuously at speeds varying between 6 and 10 knots. Thorough simulations in various sea states and weather system have consistently shown the ZEN50 will be able to achieve performance catamaran speeds continuously without using a genset. With the ZEN50, the world is your oyster and the wildest destinations are within your reach with this self-reliant vessel!

ZEN50 wingsail and solar powered performance zero emission electric catamaran yacht by ZEN Yachts

True ZERO-EMISSION operation

The first ZEN50 unit, whose construction started in March 2023, will not be equipped with a genset at all and will not have any fossil fuels onboard. The ZEN50 energy system with its very large capacity 160 kWh battery bank, has been designed to function for days in complete safety with minimal solar energy harvest and no wind. It is perfectly safe with no backup genset and operates 24/7 without any polluting emissions.

NO FUEL , no costs

Naturally, requiring no fuel to operate day in day out is great news for the environment, it is also fantastic news when sailing into remote areas where fuel bunkering might be near impossible or where the fuel quality might be an issue. Finally, it also makes a massive difference in this yacht’s costs of operation. Imagine the hundreds of liters of diesel saved over just a week, the obsolete engine maintenance schedules, the clogged filters and dirty tanks from another age… Welcome to a new burden-free, energy self-sufficient era, welcome to clean and graceful eco-yachting, welcome to ZEN Yachts.

zen superyacht interior

Highest SAFETY & reliability

At ZEN Yachts, we have made some design choices to attain energy self-reliance with the ZEN50 that reduces the habitable volume in the hulls, similar to performance catamarans. Where we have not and will never compromise is on safety. Our main voltage system is 48V making it perfectly safe to work on. The level of redundancy of the batteries and solar panels is 10! The main electrical architecture is split in 2 so that should anything happen on 1 hull, the entire vessel can still operate normally. There are 2 independent helm stations and the ZEN50 is packed with special safety features, nonsubmersible compartments and we can even offer an in-depth practical course on safety equipment usage and management. Sailing with the ZEN50 is not only exhilarating and clean, it is ultra safe!

zen superyacht interior

Unrivaled space & COMFORT

The ZEN50 offers the speeds of a performance catamaran, the comfort of a large motor yacht and the simplicity of an electric car. No less than 2 large day beds, 3 dining areas for over 10 people, 1 professional galley and 2 wet kitchens, 5 heads, up to 4 double ensuite cabins, 1 bunk double and 1 single together with both saloon and dining areas converting into extra sleeping areas, this is simply unrivaled on a 50 ft. catamaran. Add an electric tender, dive compressor, satellite internet, 2 helm stations (cockpit and flybridge), a solar roof that converts into a gigantic upper deck to enjoy the most epic sunrises and sunsets, welcome onboard the ZEN50!

Feadship And Sinot Yachts Team Up To Create Superyacht Zen

zen superyacht interior

80m of Zen and class

zen superyacht interior

Two traditional Dutch partners, builder Feadship and Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design have teamed up to create an 80m superyacht called Zen.

Henk de Vries of Feadship and Sander Sinot regulary get together and share their experiences on the future of yachting. The concept penned by the two partners puts the emphasis on space. Based on the client feedback, Sinot eliminated the unused deck spaces and developed the owner's area over two decks.

“It is the belief of Henk de Vries that it should be offered to markets in a cost-effective way,” explains Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design. “The yacht incorporates unique design features such as the magnificent inside-out space experience, typical of the Sinot design philosophy.”

The shape is unique for an 80m yacht. The internal volumes are impressive, also the decor.

For illuminating the wide interior, the designer made extraordinary use of glass. For lunch or dinner in the fresh sea air, a panoramic stern lounge is available. An eight meter swimming pool is located on the aft deck, and a large Jacuzzi on the foredeck. 12 guests can be accommodated on board Zen superyacht. There is also space for a 21 member crew.

20 interesting places in Moscow & Moscow Region you can reach with the capital's newest train system

zen superyacht interior

‘Podmoskovnaya’ historical station.

There are dozens of woodland parks and interesting museums on the outskirts of Moscow and in the nearest Moscow Region, which are best accessible by rail. ‘Moscow Central Diameters’ is a new system of suburban train services that run at several minute intervals and pass straight through the center of the city. You can pay your fare with a ‘Troika’, the main public transport card and can be topped up at any station; transferring to the metro after is free of charge. The fare within the limits of Moscow in 2023 costs 54 rubles (approx. $0.60); in the suburban zone just outside of Moscow, it costs 71 rubles (approx. $0.78). As of today, four ‘MCD’ lines operate in the city and below are some of the interesting things you can see along the routes.

MCD-1: Odintsovo-Lobnya

Skolkovo Station: Skolkovo Innovation Center

zen superyacht interior

The futuristic architecture of Russia’s answer to ‘Silicon Valley’ is visible right from Skolkovo Station. There’s a building in the shape of a cube, a technopark, a business center in the shape of a truncated pyramid and many other unusual buildings in which scientists work all day on the problems of existence. Fancy taking a closer look? You can book an excursion online.

The park that surrounds ‘Innovation City’ is very large, you can spend your entire day there; if you get tired or the weather lets you down, an abundance of cafes is at your disposal.

Fili Station: Panorama museum ‘Battle of Borodino’

zen superyacht interior

1812 Street leads from the subway station to the museum. Apart from the panorama itself, dedicated to the decisive battle of the Patriotic War of 1812, you can also take a look at Kutuzov’s izba. It’s a reconstructed wooden izba (the original one burned down in 1868), in which the military council of Russian generals made the decision to abandon Moscow.

Lianozovo Station: A promenade with swings

zen superyacht interior

The entrance to the Lianozovo Landscape Reserve, a forest within the city limits, is located not far from the station; right beyond it lies the Lianozovo Promenade. It’s a small park with Art-Nouveau arches and swings under canopies. Of course, there’s enough room for walks!

Novodachnaya Station: Dolgiye Prudy Park

zen superyacht interior

This is a large woodland park with a pond cascade and an observation deck that gave the Moscow Region city of Dolgoprudny its name. The remains of former noble estate Vinogradovo, owned by the ancestors of Russia’s main poet, Alexander Pushkin, are lost in the alleys near the northernmost pond. That was back in the middle of the 17th century.

Vodniki Station: The Moscow Canal and yacht clubs

zen superyacht interior

If you want to learn how to sail or just love to watch yachts, get off at Vodniki Station. Apart from numerous yacht clubs, there are themed restaurants and hotels, as well as a promenade with a view of a bustling life. The other exit from the station will lead you to Yusupovsky Park with an amphitheater and to Mysovo Estate, which offers a view of Kotovsky Bay.

MCD-2: Podolsk-Nakhabino

Krasny Baltiyets Station: ‘Podmoskovnaya’ locomotive depot

zen superyacht interior

There’s a historical locomotive depot, one of the oldest in Moscow, near the modern station. Podmoskovnaya Station itself was opened in 1901. Its entire architecture is done in the Art-Nouveau style, popular at the time. It’s not just a depot, but also a water tower, a platform with an elegant roof and the station head’s residence, with a restored interior of the time. Today, this is also a museum (open Wednesday-Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00) and a repair facility for operating locomotives.

Dmitrovskaya Station: Design factory

zen superyacht interior

Many historical industrial buildings that remain in Moscow were remade for art spaces and offices. One of the first was ‘Flacon’ in 2009. The old 19th-century perfume factory turned into a center for modern art. You can find showrooms, master-classes, performances, co-working spaces, as well as conceptual clusters. In general, it’s a dream for every trendsetter (read more about other former Moscow factories here).

Kuryanovo Station: Kuryanovo District

zen superyacht interior

When you get off at this station, you’ll see a Moscow stuck in the middle of the 20th century. This district lies far away from the subway and highways and it kept its initial 1950s layout when it was built as Stalin’s aerator village.

The central part of the district is a square with a Palace of Culture and a Lenin monument. Its streets are symmetrical, with old, two-story houses with front gardens lining them.

Tsaritsyno Station: Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve

zen superyacht interior

This is one of the largest and most beautiful parks of Moscow! A palace complex, flower greenhouses, giant green areas, a light-and-music fountain and a multitude of footpaths for walks attract tourists from all across the country. The residence itself was built for Catherine the Great, but she didn’t manage to use it; the park around the palace was beloved by Muscovites back in the 19th century, so it’s definitely worth your time. Don’t forget to take some nuts along for the curious local squirrels! By the way, apart from the reserve, you can take a walk to the Lower Tsaritsyno ponds that neighbor the Borisovsky ponds. They are also giant green park zones within Moscow’s limits.

Ostafyevo Station: Ostafyevo Estate

zen superyacht interior

This small museum estate with an adjoining park is a popular place for recreation for the local inhabitants. It was built back at the end of the 18th century and was Moscow Region’s literature center. Poet Vasily Zhukovsky, writer Nikolay Karamzin, poet Konstantin Batyushkov and other artists spent time there. Today, it also hosts literature exhibitions and events.

MCD-3: Ippodrom-Kryukovo

Kratovo Station: Moscow Children’s Railroad

zen superyacht interior

Russia has 25 children’s railroad rides ( we talked about them in detail here ), with one of the oldest of them located near Kratovo Station. It was opened back in 1937 and looks just like a real one, only smaller.

Teenagers work as drivers, train conductors and dispatchers. The line has two stations: ‘Yunost’ and ‘Pionerskaya’, with two intermediate platforms between them – ‘Shkolnaya’ and ‘Detskaya’. Adults can take a ride, as well (by the way, on the children’s railway, anyone older than 10 is considered an adult!).

Ostankino Station: Ostankino TV Tower (and donuts)

zen superyacht interior

You can see the entire Moscow from a height of 337 meters if you ascend to the observation deck of Ostankino Tower. A few floors lower, you can have a snack in a cafe with a rotating floor. In 40 minutes, you’ll make a full turn while sipping some coffee!

If you’re not too thrilled about heights, then, in Ostankino Park, you can try the famous all-Union standard donuts. They have been baked there since the 1950s. Your reference point is the intersection of Novomoskovskaya Street and Ostankinskaya Street… and a long line of hungry people!

Firsanovskaya Station: Serednikovo Estate & a movie town

zen superyacht interior

Poet Mikhail Lermontov often visited this old estate in his youth; the sanatorium, opened here after the 1917 Revolution, was named ‘Mtsyri’ after one of his works. Movies and TV shows were shot in these parts; a whole movie town called Piligrim Porto was built from surviving movie props.

You can get into the estate itself by taking one of the excursions that are available on the weekend. The park, meanwhile, is open every day.

Novopodrezkovo Station: the ‘Lefty’ flea market

zen superyacht interior

One of the oldest flea markets of Moscow is just a five-minute walk away from the station. Initially, it was located on Khitrovka (from 1824) in the middle of the city, but, in 2010, it was moved to the outskirts – significantly gaining in size. Fans of rummaging through vintage chests and clothing always line up to be the first to enter when it opens. However, that is only on weekends, from 7:00 to 20:00.

Levoberezhnaya Station: ‘Eco-bereg’ park

zen superyacht interior

This is a promenade along the Moscow Canal, with enough space for children’s playgrounds, chess game tables, a special rollerdrome zone and a variety of forest footpaths on different levels.

Moscow's High Rise Bohemia: The International Business District With No Business

zen superyacht interior

  • Written by Dario Goodwin
  • Published on March 17, 2015

The Moscow International Business Center (Also known as Moskva-City ) was meant to be Russia ’s ticket into the Western world. First conceived in 1992, the district at the edge of Moscow’s city center is intended to contain up to 300,000 inhabitants, employees and visitors at any given moment and, when completed, will house over 4 million square meters of prime retail, hotel and office space to create what the Russian government desired most from this project: an enormous financial district that could dwarf London’s Canary Wharf and challenge Manhattan . Twenty three years later though, Moscow-based real estate company Blackwood estimates that as much as 45% of this new space is entirely vacant and rents have plummeted far below the average for the rest of Moscow. The only press Moskva-City is attracting is for tenants like the High Level Hostel , a hostel catering to backpackers and other asset-poor tourists on the 43rd floor of the Imperia Tower , with prices starting at $25.50 for a bed in a six-person room. This is not the glittering world of western high finance that was envisioned back in the post-Soviet 90s; but what has it become instead?

zen superyacht interior

As one might expect from a project of this sheer ambition, Moskva-City has a troubled past. The economic crash in 2008 hit Russia hard enough to evict the previous Mayor of Moscow , Yuri Luzhkov, who had been a cheerleader for the district, and replace him with the considerably more austere Sergei Sobyanin, who famously declared that the whole idea was an “urban planning mistake.” But as recently as 2013, the Wall Street Journal was triumphantly claiming that Moskva-City had risen from the dead, citing 80% occupancy rates and glowing quotes from industry insiders claiming that Moskva-City was the "place to be." Driven by record highs in oil prices, Moscow looked poised to become the next Dubai .

Instead, Moscow is now in the grip of an economic winter prompted by western sanctions and drops in the price of oil. The large financial groupings that Moskva-City was meant to shelter have been warned off by their inability to issue credit to international markets, for example - but Moskva-City isn’t just an Empire State Building left empty by the Great Depression.

A fundamental problem that is holding Moskva back compared to the rest of Moscow is the simple fact that currently, getting to Moskva-City is nigh-on impossible at peak hours. Moscow has long been plagued with transport problems, ever since the government failed to match the dramatic expansion of the city with a dramatic expansion of the transport system after the Second World War. Despite being only 2.5 miles from the Kremlin , Moskva-City is only just inside the ring road that bounds the city center and which acts as the only real transport link to it (and as a result, is clogged by construction vehicles.) A railway and metro hub has been finished, but so far only runs a one-stop shuttle service to the closest Metro station that is actually integrated with the rest of Moscow Metro. The isolation of the outer districts is a large, negative part of the Moscow psyche, and it’s not surprising that this is driving away the globetrotting financial elite this project was meant to attract.

zen superyacht interior

The project is managed by architectural practice No.6, which is a constituent part of the large Moscow based practice Mosproject-2 , which is itself a public corporation headed up by Mikhail Vasilyevich Posokhin, who is apparently the “People’s Architect of Russia.” Despite all this state involvement, the project has still managed to become bogged down in bureaucratic infighting - each lot is managed and developed individually, which has led to developers competing for occupants by slashing rates.

Much has been written about the way modern financial districts and towers that inhabit them can be unwelcoming, forbidding or even hostile by design, but the skyscrapers of Moskva-City seem even less friendly than usual. The site - a former stone quarry, chosen out of necessity as the only place in the city center where a new district could be plausibly constructed - is isolated both physically and visually, leaving the cluster a stark anomaly on the city skyline. Even the names seem more imposing than optimistic now: Imperia, City of Capitals , Steel Peak.

zen superyacht interior

The Mercury City Tower , so far the tallest completed building on the site, is officially “a strong reference to Russian constructivism, [which] gives the tower a strong vertical thrust similar to the one found in New York's Chrysler building .” It would be easy to criticize the Mercury City Tower for picking ‘inspirations’ that are so totally opposed to each other - The Chrysler building the defining emblem of American pre-crash confidence and Constructivism created with the express purpose (especially architecturally) of extending the Bolshevik revolution into a social revolution - but the way they smash those two inspirations together is almost beautifully ironic.

zen superyacht interior

Even though the High Level Hostel is less an asset to a financial district than it is a PR problem, it’s been a huge success since opening in September, already ranked 27th out of 766 hostels in Moscow by TripAdvisor. According to the management agency for Moskva-City , 58% of the new occupant signings this year have been non-financial, including a number of small to medium size businesses. Other areas of office space have been occupied by a restaurant and a culinary school, while another space has been redeveloped into a 6,000 seat theater.

While Moskva-City is failing to be a financial district that could take on the world, it’s inadvertently becoming a humanized space catering to the very groups that the Russian economic miracle left behind. Taking advantage of rents lower than the rest of Moscow , the world class facilities and the sheer desperation of the developers, the humanization of Moskva-City could well create the world’s first high-rise bohemia.

zen superyacht interior

Of course, these are not spaces designed for a community, or even for people: these are spaces designed for money, and there’s little scope for changing something that seems so baked into the design of Moskva-City . The High Level Hostel is trading off of the irony of being a hostel in a banking tower, but it’s perfectly possible that at some point people will no longer find this joke funny (especially in a building that seems hostile to the very idea of humor). The isolation of Moskva, even though it allowed this community to spring up in the first place, is just as detrimental to a humanized district as it is to a financial one: even bohemians need to move around the city, or the district risks becoming a black-spot instead of a hot-spot.

Moskva-City’s isolation won’t last forever. The end of construction will open the roads up to traffic, and plans to properly integrate the spur lines of the Metro in this area into the wider system are well under way. The integration of the district will inevitably push up rents, and the Russian economy will eventually boom once again. When that happens, Moskva-City is prime territory to be reconquered by the giants of international finance, and it seems unlikely that the municipal or national governments would want to step in to protect this accidental district. For now, though, the towers capture perfectly this moment of Russia ’s schizophrenic understanding of its place in the world.
