Beautiful grounds, loved the pool and fitness area. The room (2 garden queen) didn't have a balcony or patio. The sliding door opened into the hallway. Avoid rooms 203, 205 and 207.

Location & property is beautiful

We would possibly stay here again if there were no other choices but will avoid it. After checking in we went to the restaurant downstairs, it's an odd menu with limited offerings but the food was fine. After getting back to our room we receive a call (on the room phone) about our room charge for dinner and that we aren't checked in. Ok, how did I receive a room number and key if I'm not checked in? They said they will finish checking us in and it will be fine. Later, after already changing for bed and settling for the night we get a call again. They didn't save our credit card information so I have to go back down there to check in again. Their fees, while not unusual for the area, are astronomical and completely unjustified. The resort fee was to cover wifi, beach chairs, housekeeping, etc. Wifi would constantly kick you off, and was extremely slow. You could pay more for an upgraded wifi plan - then why are you claiming it's part of resort fee. We couldn't get beach chairs and were only offered what chairs were already sitting on grass - we couldn't take to beach. There was no housekeeping, they stated we needed to stay 4 nights for housekeeping. We had to ask 3 times for toilet paper and never received any - we had to go buy some at the store. This was on top of the room not being thoroughly cleaned before we got there. The lava java was not open for the stated hours. They claimed they were open til 7pm but we tried going at 5pm and they were closed.

This property is beautiful and super close to Pacific Beach and the boardwalk. Like a 5 minute walk to the beach.

The stormy weather was no under your control. The lack of clean up after the storms was something you could have controlled. The extensive reconstruction contributed to the general disorder around the grounds. The room was OK, we expected more.

We love staying here. Location is close to anywhere in the bay or on the beach and the staff is top notch. Pool and Gym are nice also!

Gorgeous property but really dirty dusty not/ready room $80/day extra fees/parking/valet Not a deal as advertised by Orbitz

I loved this resort, I have been coming here for years. Always my best spot in San Diego

Location and water Sports Great. Balcony under repair and not available not great.

The property itself was well maintained and beautiful. However, the walking paths to get around were very dark and should be better lit. Our bathroom in our room was disgusting, there was mold in the tub, the flooring was cracked and stained. The shower turned from scorching hot to ice cold. The hallway carpets were stained. The rooms, hallways and stairwells were dirty. The rooms need to be renovated for what they charge per night, it was very disappointing. Would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

We really enjoyed the landscape near the Tower hotel rooms. Very peaceful and beautiful scenery. The hotel room was a little dated and needs a new sliding door and screen door. Other than that it was nice.

The grounds of the resort were beautiful! Staff was excellent, location great.

Love how close you are to the beach. Rooms are quiet & curtains black out sun. Pool was clean & plenty of towels. Only negative was pool gate closest to our room was chained & not usable, we had to walk through the lobby to get to pool. Not easy w/2 little kids.

Dated accommodations, bathroom and bedding/linens were not clean.

Loved the access to both beach and bay

Beautiful property on the bay!

Run down and over priced! Never again

Right on Mission Bay, walking path around the bay at the hotel's back yard. The ocean path is just across the road.

How guest reviews work

Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.

You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.

We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.

Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.

Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):

  • Politically sensitive comments
  • Promotional content
  • Illegal activities
  • Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
  • Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
  • Spam and fake content
  • Animal cruelty
  • Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
  • Any violation of our review guidelines.

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.

An accommodation can reply to a review.

When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.

Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.

Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.

All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

The grounds were beautiful and the location was perfect. It sides on the bay side which would be great for parents with little kids. For our teens, the ocean side was a simple 5-7 minute walk.

The rooms are sooooooooooooo dated!!! The bathroom shower tiles disgusting and unable to be thoroughly cleaned. We had to change out our shower mat because it had mold/dirt on it. When we showered the pipes rattled and made loud noises. For the out the door price with parking, taxes, resort fee etc. of over $600 per night I really expected much more out of my room. Definitely suggest a remodel on the rooms sooner than later!

The location and grounds were fabulous! Reminded us of Hawaii. Adjacency to the bay and beach fantastic. Water sports and restaurants were great. The mobile concierge system was very responsive and convenient. Loved that feature.

The rooms were dated and so old. Everyone we met in the elevator said their rooms were also very outdated. The couple in the penthouse told us "it's not much of a penthouse". In our room they squished in two queen beds, a table with two chairs, one of which you couldn't get to because it was behind other furniture. It was not a "suite" by any means. The kitchen was at least 30 years old. We couldn't use the balcony because the screen was broken. Even the lobby furniture was falling apart. Grout in the tile floor by the front desk was old and broken.

The location is perfect and the beach access was great. The lobby had a lovely little river with koi and ducks, which was lovely. They had a coffee place that was expensive but good.

What are your family vacation plans?  If you want to stay stateside, we highly recommend San Diego as one of THE most family-friendly cities in America.  Check out my Top 12 Family Attractions in San Diego and you’ll see what I mean.  And if you’re looking for a fabulous hotel you’ll love the  Catamaran Resort Hotel & Spa .  It was recommended to us as a great family-oriented place to stay and we agree 100%.

The Catamaran Resort Hotel & Spa is located in San Diego’s Pacific Beach community along the sparkling shores of Mission Bay. Only 8 miles from San Diego International Airport it’s also just a few miles away from every major attraction.

The Catamaran is a 4-star Polynesian-themed hotel offering an atmosphere of casual elegance with its beautiful grounds, lush vegetation, palm trees, waterfalls, exotic birds, koi ponds and tiki torches.  Featuring 310 rooms and suites, each with their own balcony or patio with breathtaking views, the hotel also has studios with their own kitchenettes.  Traveling as a family, that was a great option for us as we were able to make several of our own meals as a means of saving both time and money.  Wi-Fi is free, room service is available 24 hours a day, and there are no resort fees or amenities fees.  Check-out time is noon, which is perfect for couples wanting a leisurely morning or for families who have kids to get ready.

We spent several days at the Catamaran and thoroughly enjoyed every moment.  Let me tell you about our family’s experience there during our last trip to San Diego.

catamaran hotel check out time

Before we get to the hotel, I have to put in a plug for  Victorinox  because their luggage is simply awesome and has contributed to many great family vacations over the last 4 years.  If you’ve experienced both awful and awesome luggage you know exactly what I mean when I say that luggage is such an important part of safe and comfortable traveling.  Having bags that are secure and prevent theft, that are high quality and durable, that move and maneuver with ease especially when you’re in a hurry, that allow for flexible packing solutions, and that are light-weight enough to not overly burden your maximum weight limit…all these things contribute to a comfortable and worry-free vacation.  Victorinox bags fit that bill in every respect and we can’t recommend them highly enough.

Our Victorinox suitcase and carry-ons are all expandable, featuring the “Pack More System,” and offer five packing solutions.  Our favorite feature are the four dual casters – the bags nearly float! They coast along and maneuver so smoothly and lightly that even our 4 year old daughter is able to push her luggage around with ease.  With both kids able to pull their own luggage, it sure made our load a lot lighter!  On top of all this, Victorinox bags come with a fabulous warranty.

Our family has been using the same Victorinox luggage for all our travels for the last 4 years and as durable as it is, we look forward to many more.

Now, let me take you on a virtual tour of the Catamaran Resort Hotel and tell you all about our experience!

First impressions are always important and at the Catamaran it was a positive one.  Take a look at the front lobby and see for yourself.

catamaran-50

The hotel is Polynesian-themed complete with tiki men and Polynesian art.  The grounds are beautifully manicured with exotic plants and flowers and a koi fish pond running through it.  Our kids had a blast exploring the hotel and grounds.

catamaran-tiki-edited

We had a hard time tearing our kids away from the koi fish pond to go up to our room.  We had to reassure them that we’d be back down again.  They very reluctantly came along.

catamaran-lobby-collage-1

Within the hotels are winding paths of lush gardens boasting a tropical feel consistent with the Polynesian theme of the resort.  You feel like you’re on an island in the tropics.  Everything is beautifully manicured and meticulously clean.

With a stream winding through the grounds full of koi fish and ducks wandering down the paths, our kids were absolutely mesmerized.

catamaran-24

After checking in we went to find our room.  We stayed in the tower in the Orchid Suite which could not have offered a better view.  Absolutely exquisite!

This is the view we enjoyed from both the master bedroom and living room.

catamaran-44

Our suite was fabulous and gets a full two thumbs up from each of us.

catamaran-16

We’ve stayed in a lot of ritzy hotels but this was the first time we had encountered a TV in the bathroom mirror – pretty cool!

catamaran-bathroom-1

I need to point out something relatively small but that really reflects the Catamaran’s attention to detail and commitment to excellence:  Look at the folded towels, tissue and toilet paper.  Room service took the time to do this every day in both bathrooms. Now multiply that across all 310 rooms and suites.  That time and attention sends a strong message and really impressed us.

catamaran-bathroom-2

Our room was quiet and very comfortable.  We all slept soundly, including the little ones who shared the sleeper sofa in the living room.

catamaran-75-cropped

The Catamaran is located on the shores of Mission Bay, the largest manmade aquatic park in the world and boasting 27 miles of meandering shoreline.  With tranquil waters, soft sand beaches and a ton of year-round recreational activities, it’s hard to beat this family-friendly beach location.

catamaran hotel check out time

Just a few steps from the hotel room you have access to everything from bike and sailboat rentals to paddleboards, kayaks and fun cats.

catamaran-12

Mission Bay is particularly ideal for families with young kids because, being a sheltered bay, it has no big waves.  Our kids were able to enjoy the perfectly calm waters.

liam-emily-san-diego-beach

Three activities were were unable to experience but hope to in the future are the complimentary Bahia Belle boat cruise, the daily parrot show and the Summer Luau.

The Bahia Belle is a classic 74-foot, 3-story sternwheeler boat that provides complimentary family-hour and cocktail cruises on Mission Bay for hotel guests.  During the Summer they also have Sunset Luaus which would be a blast to experience.  Admission includes a lei, Mai Tai, all-you-can-eat buffet, and entertainment, including authentic island music and fiery torch dancers.

bahia-belle-parrot-1

Though we weren’t able to experience them with our kids in tow, the Catamaran also offers San Diego’s only beachfront spa.  The spa offers a full range of massages, body wraps, hydrotherapy treatments, facials and Vichy showers as well as nail treatments, hair styling and makeup in their salon.  The resort also has a fitness center with a full array of cardio and strength training equipment with awesome views of Mission Bay.

catamaran-fitness-and-spa

Even with a beautiful beach within a few feet of our room, the kids couldn’t wait to hit the pool!

catamaran-68

Let’s talk about FOOD!  The Catamaran’s casual dining option is Moray’s, offering  lunch and dinner and a full-service bar.  The outdoor seating area features tiki torches, fire pit tables and tropical plants complete with a koi pond.  Seasonal live music is also offered on the patio.

morays-collage-2

Oceana Coastal Kitchen, the Catamaran’s seafood restaurant, is the Open Table Diner’s Choice Winner for 2017 and features chef-driven California cuisine with an emphasis on local produce and sustainable ingredients in a modern setting with beautiful bay-front dining.

catamaran-52-cropped

With our two young kids in tow, we wanted to be able to enjoy a stress-free meal without the kids disrupting other guests and so we asked for permission to sit outside of Moray’s in a more secluded area next to the koi pond.  We crossed our fingers the fish would keep our kids entertained.  The staff was friendly and obliging and our plan worked like a charm!  The kids remained perfectly content being able to watch the fish between courses.

The food was absolutely delicious.  The service was quick, friendly and professional.

catamaran-collage-1

I want to make special mention of the dessert.  Our 4 year old daughter desperately wanted a strawberry with her ice cream (she’s 4, many of you know all about these desperate whims).   I asked the waitress – if it wasn’t too much trouble – if she could kindly ask the chef if he had a single strawberry he could add to the bowl of ice cream.  When she brought my daughter’s ice cream the chef had cut up not one, but at least 4-5 large strawberries and took care to arrange them nicely around her scoop of sorbet.  Our daughter’s face lit up and that thoughtful act really made her meal.  And it left us especially impressed by the service and thoughtfulness of Oceana Coastal Kitchen.

oceana-collage-1

It was one of the most enjoyable restaurant meals we’ve had with our kids and we owe that largely to the terrific setting.  Our kids were able to take a few bites and then watch the fish and then come back for more.  Between the fish, complimentary coloring gear and kid-friendly food of fish sticks, chicken tenders & fries, they stayed perfectly content for over an hour.

Thumbs up  to Oceana Coastal Kitchen for a terrific, low-stress family meal!

oceana-collage-2

We had a terrific time at the Catamaran Resort Hotel!

And I’ll tell you what, we had a jam-packed itinerary with all the best places to go and things to do, but our kids would have been perfectly happy had we stayed at the hotel the entire week and not set foot out at all.  Between the beach, swimming pool and the streams and ponds full of koi fish, that was all they needed in the world to be content.  It took quite a bit of persuading to get them to be willing to go out and do the things we had planned for them.

Here’s a direct quote:

Me:  “Hey guys, ready to visit the Zoo?  Safari Park? LegoLand?  SeaWorld??”

Our 6 year old son:  “No. We want to stay here and watch the fish.”

There’s a solid testimonial right there.  Two thumbs up, Catamaran!

If you’re looking for a San Diego hotel for a couple’s or family vacation we highly recommend the Catamaran Resort Hotel & Spa. With its pristine beachfront setting, beautiful tropical grounds, fun Polynesian-themed design, great food, amenities and service, you are going to love your stay.

We slept well, ate well and played well.  Bottom line:  We’re ready to go back!

Some basic advice for travelers:

Don't be afraid to book a hotel that’s not in the city center, even if it’s a little further out. But make sure there’s a metro station nearby. Even from the most distant metro stations it takes no longer than 30 minutes to reach the city center, and close to many of these stations you can find a nice park, be it Izmailovsky or the Soviet-era VDNKh, or perhaps an exceptional historical site or museum. In addition, the metro is also an important site that deserves to be enjoyed. Check out the interactive metro map here metro.yandex.ru.

  • Hotel  Astrus  – $60-150* (next to Yugo-Zapadnaya metro station, red Line 1)
  • Hotel complex in Izmailovo:  Alfa ,  Beta ,  Gamma ,  Vega ,  Delta  – from $40 to $400 (five big hotels of various quality next to the huge Izmailovsky Park and Partizanskaya metro station on blue Line 3 and Moscow Center Railroad)
  • Holiday Inn Sokolniki  (metro station Sokolniki, red Line 1, next to the beautiful park) – $60-200
  • Hotel  Cosmos  (next to VDNKh metro station on orange Line 6 and VDNKh, with space museum and oceanarium inside) – $50-220

If you’re traveling for a sporting or big musical event :

An aerial view of Luzhniki Stadium

An aerial view of Luzhniki Stadium

We strongly recommend inquiring in advance about your stay before such major events as FIFA World Cup™. Prices are quite high at these times and hotels are overbooked, so you might have to rent an apartment, which is not always a guarantee of a good price-quality relationship.

If you need to be clos e to Spartak Stadium :

  • Aquarium hotel , $130-190
  • DOSAAF hotel , $30-80
  • Happy Hotel , $72
  • Mini hostel  next to the stadium, $10-40

For  Luzhniki Stadium :

  • Hotel  Corston , $80-300
  • Hotel  Luzhniki , $145-160
  • Hotel  Yunost , $80-130
  • Sweet Dream  hostel, $10-30

For  CSKA Arena :

  • Triumph Palace Boutique  Hotel, $145-320
  • ART  Hotel, $40-180
  • Aeropolis  Hotel, $40-140
  • CSKA  Hotel, $40-70

For  VTB Ice Arena :

  • Maxima Panorama  Hotel, $60-200
  • Apart-Hotel  PointZil , $45-95
  • Best Seasons  Hotel, $45-80
  • Hostels  Rus – Avtozavodskaya  $7-10

On a business trip :

If your personal assistant hasn’t booked a good hotel, or if you don’t have a personal assistant yet, then it’s better to stay close to your office or conference hall, or a rail station with Aeroexpress trains to airports.

  • Ibis  Kievskaya  situated on blue Line 3 is fine if you need the Moscow City business hub or Crocus City. If you need Vnukovo Airport, then the nearby Kievskaya rail station is right there with a fast train to the airport – $50
  • Nearby is  Radisson Slavyanskaya  Hotel by Kievskaya metro and rail station, $100-300
  • Novotel Moscow  is right in the Moscow City business center, from $80
  • Hotel Crocus Star  15-minute walk to Myakinino metro station, Crocus City Hall and Crocus Expo. Nearby is the indoor ski and snowboard venue, Snezh.com, $70

If you want to party hard :

Patriarshiye Ponds

Patriarshiye Ponds

Moscow has great nightlife, and clubs open 24/7 can be found almost everywhere. But these places have a large concentration of restaurants and bars: Pyatnitskaya Street, Patriarshiye Ponds, Tverskaya Streets and the former Red October factory zone. The best option will be to choose something nearby to save money on taxis (the Moscow metro works from 5:30 a.m. to 1 a.m.).

  • Marco Polo Presnja  Hotel, $70-250
  • Peking Hotel  with a rooftop bar, $65-150
  • Citycomfort Hotel  Novokuznetskaya, $40-60
  • Fabrika hostel gallery café , $46-120

If you’ve come to Moscow for the first time, the most important things to see can be found in a maximum range of 20 minutes walk from each other. There are two options. The first is the area near the Kremlin, State Historical Museum, Pushkin Museum for Fine Arts and Multimedia Art Museum. In that case, the following hotels will suit you:

  • The National  – just 5 minutes walk from Kremlin. If you can’t afford staying here, have breakfast at the Dr Zhivago restaurant; from $270
  • In Time Hotel  next to Kremlin and Biblioteka Imeni Lenina metro station; $70-100

Option No. 2: if you prefer the Garage Museum in Gorky Park, the State Tretyakov Gallery and New Tretyakov Gallery, then:

  • President  Hotel, $90-200
  • Medea hotel  Novokuznetskaya metro station, $90-160

A riverside room please :

The Moskva River might be not as famous as St. Petersburg’s Neva, but its banks are no less picturesque.

  • Swisshotel   Krasnye Kholmy  is not far from Paveletskaya metro station and the House of Music concert hall, from $190
  • Riverside Hotel  (from $120) shares with  Radisson Royal  (from $270) in a Stalin-era skyscraper and former Ukraine hotel building. Nearby is a pier for Moskva River boat tours.
  • Moscow Point Red October  on the former factory site and full of night clubs , $90-170
  • Ivan Chai - hotel and coffee  is not far from Kolomensky Park and metro station, $40-60

If you’re a badass luxury traveler :

A Kremlin-view room in Baltschug Kempinski

A Kremlin-view room in Baltschug Kempinski

These hotels don’t need special introduction; they have history and offer services at the highest level. But they’re not affordable for everyone. Foreign celebrities, presidents and sheikhs often stay here.

  • Four Seasons Hotel  Moscow – from $500; built anew based on the Stalin era plans; this is probably Moscow’s most expensive luxury hotel and the closest to the Kremlin.
  • The Ritz-Carlton , from $560, with Novikov restaurant on the first floor.
  • Ararat Park Hyatt , the rooftop bar has a fantastic view, from $400
  • Hotel Baltschug Kempinski  Moscow
  • St. Regis Moscow Nikolskaya , from $300
  • Metropol , from $200; the mosaics by Mikhail Vrubel on the façade can be enjoyed for free

Within walking distance there is a Belorussky railway station, where you can pick the express to Sheremetyevo. The staff in the hotel is friendly and helpful. Pets are allowed, which in our case, was great benefit. Room is quite comfortable and big. I would like to take a chance and to mention that Agoda indeed gives very good rates. I couldn't find such rates even within Russian sites. even more, as I need to extend check out time till 6 p.m. I have paid almost same amount as I paid to agoda for the full day. Overall, I do recommend the Holiday Inn Lesnaya to travelers in Moscow. Value for Money - it's nearly best, but assuming you got the right rates in internet.

Room plan

Will place 2nd book for my next trip to Moscow.

We nearly had a complete bad time in Moscow during a 1-day visit to the city due to a robbery event near the Kremlin, but the hotel staff team had helped us deal with the process of police report with great speed and attention. They coordinated with the police and called for them to come to the hotel at 3 a.m. in the morning, acted as our translator, helped us through 1 hour of document filling which had to be done in Russian language, and made us feel comfortable. In the next morning when we asked for a copy of the report, they efficiently coordinated with the police and when we had to leave the country they sent us the requested copy via email within the same day. We were so impressed by the professionalism and kindness of the hotel staff to the extent that our faith in Moscow had been restored. We will never forget your help.

The place is fantastic! The views from your room are exceptional. Staff is very accomodating but NOT for kids. No cribs. If your traveling with kids don’t recommend but couples you will be totally loving it.

I had some problem during the chekc-in, because they told me they changed (arising) the tarifs the week before, but I didn't get any email of these changes neither from them or Agoda. Breakfast is good, the hotel is clean, interiors maybe a little bit "fanè, wilted", but I think for this price is pretty good for Moscow.

Lobby

Good price, good location, convenient to reach Moscow center as well as the SVO hotel.

Our visit to Moscow was enhanced by the stay at the Borodino. It was close to Metro stations and Railway stations. So it was easy to access the city and its attractions. We have already recommended to our friends via social media and e mail. But have also recommended to Real Russia, who organised our rail tickets etc to get here. We would definitely stay again

Lobby

The hotel is very easy to find and is located in a very nice location, except being a little far away from the nearest metro station. The staffs were all very friendly and most of them speak good English. The room was cozy and nice! I would recommend this to my friends if they are going to visit Moscow!

Nabat Palace Hotel

I liked the hotel. The only complain was about the charges that i had to pay for the taxi to the airport. It was four times higher than it should have been. The hotel strangely didn't have a shuttle to the airport.

My only regret is that I didn't have more time to stay and relax more!

Meeting room / ballrooms

I got to your facility without my luggage key. Your people in housekeeping were wonderful and helped to open my bag without calling me a follis have Americian. Thanks to them for a great experience in Moscow.

Exterior view

Do not stay anywhere else in Moscow. Awesome palace/ hotel . Five minutes walk to the metro and just four stops from the red square. Huge rooms and the most friendly staff especially Vlad the conceage. Sitting in the palace outside courtyard drinking tea is the best experience ever. No need to even go outside to enjoy the lovely place. Don't think twise and book now.

The Rooms Boutique Hotel

Comfortable bed, clean shower room, convenient facilities, delicious breakfast. Regina, Rateb! Thank you.

Exterior view

Quality at every turn, from the food, decor, furnishings, bedding... They don't do many things but everything they do is executed with perfection. The polar exact opposite of chain hotels and a lesson to fussy and badly executed "boutique" hotels.

Nice living choice for business purpose, the hotel has the business lounge that can be used as free facility for thr swiss business executive room guest. However it is also good option to stay for sightseeing and shoping purpose. Between your busy business time you can enjoy the hotel as one of Moscow landmark as it has city sky lounge to see Moscow city light. Besides it is only 2 metro station to Moscow Red Square or Arbat street wellknown as Moscow souvenir shoping centre. It is also quite easy to reach Moscow Domodedovo airport by catching the train from the station close to the hotel.

Moscow Grand Hotel

The hotel is not like a Marriott, just like a 3-star one with old and dilapidated interior, not much choice of breakfast. Really disappointed.

Meeting room / ballrooms

I was in Moscow for 6 nights. Kremlin is 12 minutes walk from the hotel. Really good night life around the area. The surrounding is very beautiful. Recommend for 1st timers to Moscow to stay at a good location like this to enjoy Moscow.

Hotel Baltschug Kempinski Moscow

Love the location of Kempinski Moscow. We booked 3 night there. We got a wonderful view to kremlin red square. Our breakfast view to Saint Basil’s Cathedral. Best location ever. Thank you Kempinski for upgrade our room to have the Moscow iconic view:

And the view from the windows are spectacular, Redsquare, Kremlin and also from afar the Church Of Christ the Saviour can be seen. Really the VERY BEST Hotel at the VERY BEST LOCATION in Moscow, right at the Red Square and just steps away from the Kremlin and GUM. Bolshoi and most 1st class restaurants are in walking distance. Basically near all main attractions and sights in Moscow. Staffs and services all very good. Should be 1st choice to stay in Moscow. Cannot be more than perfect.

Lobby

This is one of the best hotel rooms I've ever stayed in. It was a total value for money. The location is not that great, since it's around 7-8 mins walking from the closest metro station, but the facilities and room make up for the location.

Real reviews for hotels

Great architecture. although super cold and snow = its still amazing to walk there and see exactly that.

Great food at good price... lots to see and a mix of old and new... a vibrant and interesting city.

There are 96 parks and 18 gardens in Moscow, including 4 botanical gardens. There are also 450 square kilometres (170 sq mi) of green zones besides 100 square kilometres (39 sq mi) of forests.

Moscow is a very green city. Moscow is also the heart of the Russian performing arts, including ballet and film. There are 93 theaters, 132 cinemas and 24 concert halls in Moscow. Among Moscow’s many theaters and ballet studios is the Bolshoi Theatre and the Malyi Theatre as well as Vakhtangov Theatre and Moscow Art Theatre.

I visited mid October just as the weather started turning, and it is recommended to bring appropriate warm clothing as it can be extremely cold.

The metro has many stops to get you around the city, but it might take a moment to understand how it all works. There are plenty of sights to see both inside and on the outskirts of the city. Lots of shopping available, and many cafes to enjoy food and drink. I didn't find it very busy, but then it is much more spacious than most cities. Very friendly people.

Moscow was one of the best city i have ever visited and people were freindly , the only thing i faced was the language since they do not talk English , but overall was just perfect .

Moscow is a vibrant City with plenty of restuarants and plenty of architectural buildings to see, like The Kremlin, and St.

Basils Cathredral There is a lot of walking involved when in Moscow as it is a large city.

It's better to use a service from hotel for taxi. If you call taxi by your own, you would be over charged from Moscow taxi.

They didn't use a meter.

it's a more or less a cold city, in that i mean the person is not very welcoming and not with warmth!! generally cold and without smile!!

it's very difficult to communicate in Moscow, they don't speak English, and no English sign board, I have to take metro to go everywhere at the same time read through the map, otherwise I make sure i got lost!

Nice city with many cultural sites and historical memories. My short visit was impressive (after 25 years).

People were more friendly than 25 years ago and more relaxing from my very short observation and interaction at public transport and restaurant. Nice city and will come back for cultural and historical visits.

People are calm and cool. They don't smile and with no facial expression. No one talks inside the subway.

Staff everywhere are not helpful at all. Be positive and don't get upset nor mad when ignored by the staff in tix office/conceirge. The funny thing is even though they aware that you don't speak Russian, they will still continuesly speak Russian to you blablablablabla.... Architecture are amazing and subway station is unique!

Moscow is a wonderful place to visit, there are lots go interesting place to see. Transport around the city is well, organised and on time.

By a good book and a map, where good shoes because it's huge. There are lots of reasonable places to eat and drink. Of course it's a wonderful cultural place.

Moscow is a great city. Plenty to see and do. Cheap at the moment with the Ruble to GBP rate! Excellent shopping.

Metro very easy to use.

Among the world's great cities. Very much recommended. Leave the stereotypes at home and embrace the city and the inhabitants and you will love the experience.

People in Moscow seem not to be friendly but they are actually helpful and kind. We were reluctant at the train station to buy a ticket for the metro and there was a guy gave us a hand, took us to the right ticket booth and explain us everything.

He is really kind. There are a lot of impression about people in Moscow and if we have a chance, we will definitely go back there.

Wonderful city for history and culture. The Metro stations, Alexander Garden, the Kremlin, St Basil Cathedral, Bolshoi Theatre and the architecture are all awesome.

The local people were friendly and helpful even though they didn't speak English. I had a brilliant time as a solo traveler.

- Big and cold city. - All Hotels are very expensive. - Aint good and cheap food. + Awesome underground stations.

+ A lot of pretty girls).

Moscow is a nice city, its just too expensive. The traffic take the most of your time. The best way to get to your hotel is to take an express tram from the airport to the city and then continue in a taxi.

People are very rude, they are up themselves and they expect you to speak their language.

Sales in shops, even hotel staffs and people in the city hate travelers. They willfully let you now it.

People generally do not speak one single word in English. I rent a car and drive. A police car stop me. Tell me I run a red light. As me put USD300 in his police car before let me go. Otherwise, they said that they will detain me and take away my drives license.

I like the city centre and the architecture in Moscow., but outside it is a bit messy. You can really experience the extreme of rich and poor in this city.

This is quite interesting, but besides, a bit scary for a girl who travel alone, as people looks a bit defensive.

Red square area is the only area we think we are happy for.. Apart from that, it's nothing and overestimated from advertisement.

People are mostly not friendly, they never smile, thanks or say sorry before you say.. They response to your question with an annoy feeling with the annoy face. However, we try to understand it is thier nature. Anyway, some are better, they try to help with no smile and feeling of annoy.

I loved Moscow despite everything I had heard. Red Square and the Kremlin were interesting, the National Museum was very well presented and the shops in the area (including the famous GUM) provided a delightful shopping experience if you like that type of thing.

I was lucky enough to have friends who were able to drive myself and my Mum around to show us a lot more than we could have seen otherwise (as my mother is elderly). The main drawback is the public transport is only in Cyrillic so be prepared with a translated map to figure it out if you don't speak Russian. Russians were very friendly, with several offering assistance with Mum's bags and a couple of elderly folks striking up conversation with us, despite the language barrier. Visa requirements are difficult for most travellers to Russia but well worth the effort. We did not feel unsafe, but have travelled a lot in a lot of different countries, also we were travelling in the very low season so there were not crowds to deal with. The train from St Petersburg to Moscow was very modern, comfortable and clean. If you are thinking about it - GO you will love it too.

Moscow is biggest city. For sure You should know what are U looking for and find the right places.. Amazing city.

It is a very beautiful(probably the most beautiful) city in view of the very impressive classical building styles, etc.

Citizens are very law-abiding. Weather must be one of the reasons to create a people that are quite resilient in facing life. (Russian people don't complain at all!)

It is nothing to add if everybody have a travel book. History of Moscow is very long and interesting, especially when you want to see how looks the capital of collapsed Soviet Union, how people lived in so called "building communism society".

Russian people in Moscow and St.Petersburg are very much difference but People in Moscow is worse who usually have attitude, fierce and not helpful and friendly.

You can't be relax there as there is no English sign at anything and people don't speak or try to speak in English. If you speak English with them even at the airport, they will stare at you badly. There is no tax refund like most of the country in the World. All brand name stuff is even more expensive than Hong Kong. The only attractive is Red Wall...that's it.

MOSCOW IS A VERY BEAUTIFUL CITY. THE ONLY THING THAT I CAN COMPLAIN IS THAT THE INHABITANTS ARE NOT FRIENDLY ANDIF YOU ARE TRAVELLING WITH ENGLISH AS YOUR LANGUAGE, IT IS GOING TO BE HARD TO YOU .

ALL THE METRO STATIONS ARE IN THE CIRRILIC ALPHABET AND THEY HAVE NO INDICATIONS IN ENGLISH OR ANYOTHER LANGUAGE .

Moscow appeared to be trying to overcome 70 years of austerity, despite the obvious attraction of most visitors to this period of its history.

Moskwa is good city with old fashion nice metro stations. It's reflect from the buildings and cultures.

From the airport we took airport taxi to avoid 'black taxi' to the hotel. We had to prepare city map and metro map to travel in group by our selves. Some peoples couldn't speak English. Nice place to see are : Kremlin, Red Square, Kievkaya mall, river cruise tours. There were a free city tour in the city to travel around. Nice to visit Moskwa.

great City to visit, Kremlin Museums incl. Diamond Fund, Red Square and St. Basils are mandatory, Art Museums are great, walled monasteries good, Army Museum good.

Metro is best and fastest way to get around City.

i was worried about visiting Moscow alone without knowing Russian language but most people were super nice.

if you practice some basic Russian and have the map of the metro in your language, itll be fine! ;)

New Renovations are Excellent!

I have just returned from San Diego and the Catamaran Resort Hotel. Readers will remember that I have nothing but praise for this establishment. That will continue! A new feature is that most of the rooms have been refurbished, giving a more modern look to Rooms that some have commented as being dated, worn or tired. I never subscribed to that as I liked the familiarity of my surroundings. No Matter! Management has responded to the view that modernization was critical and the new decor is just fantastic! The reason that I return several times a year is,as many readers know by now is the staff. They ALWAYS HAVE MADE ME FEEL AT HOME ! They work VERY HARD to ensure that the guest receives the best value for their money and I cannot compliment them sufficiently. Once again, a VERY lengthy list of those that have ALWAYS made sure that I would wish to return: Jim Chester{GM} Scott{Director of Guest Services} Roberto{Front Office Manager} Hitomi{Assistant Front Office Manager}. Arturo - Bellman, most gracious employee encountered. patient/considerat. He went the extra mile to help resolve the room/front desk issues. Margarita, Oceana very helpful during lunch/brunch

Dear Patricia, thank you for staying with us and for your kind comments about Arturo; he will be very pleased to hear them. While we are glad to hear that you enjoyed the margarita at Oceana Coastal Kitchen, we are sorry to hear that you had issues with your room. We appreciate you sharing your experience and are happy that your issues were resolved. It will be our pleasure to welcome you back in the near future.

Came down to San Diego for a wedding with some friends. The hotel is under quite a bit of construction but we had a nice quiet room by the pool. Hannah checked us in and greeted us everyday we were there. Oceana restaurant was quality if you enjoy sea food. All staff we encountered were friendly and if we had more time, the hotel has a lot of amenities to enjoy. The weather was beautiful and the hotel sits right on the bay. There are a lot of food options and things to do nearby.

Dear Nico, thank you for choosing the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa. We are thrilled to hear about Hanna's friendly service and that you enjoyed our highly rated restaurant Oceana Coastal Kitchen. We hope to have you back with us soon to enjoy our bountiful amenities and activities and unbeatable Mission Bay location. Best wishes from the team.

I just booked my next stay at The Catamaran Resort with Senior Reservations Sales Agent, Renée Stauffer. She was so helpful and kind. Now I know that I booked the perfect room. I highly recommend this resort!

Dear Winston, thank you for sharing your experience with Renee in Reservations. We always appreciate hearing positive comments about our helpful staff, and we look forward to having you enjoy the many amenities and activities that the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa has to offer. Providing an exceptional guest experience is always our goal, and we're glad to say that we've achieved it in your case. We look forward to your upcoming visit. Wishing you all the best for an amazing vacation!

I recently stayed at this resort in May. Here are my take aways…if you don’t mind traveling back in time (late 80s) type of hotel room, your bathroom tub peeling, shower curtain with tears, outdated bathroom, cracked lamps, ironing board and iron that do not work, tv placed in awkward location, refrigerator that has cracks in sealant, kitchenette that does not provide complimentary dish soap, scrub, paper towel rolls then you will enjoy your stay! As for me and my family. I will have to say a hard pass. The Spa was AMAZING ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ five stars with flaming lights! Would recommend to any spa lovers!

Dear Norma, we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed our incredible waterfront spa, however, we are sorry about the issues you encountered with your room. Our management team has informed us that they have reached out to you via email to address these concerns directly. We hope to hear back from you soon, and we hope to have you back for a more positive stay. Thank you.

Booked 5 nights from 5/14/23 - 5/18/23. We have stayed here before. This time we noticed a lack of maintenance and a lot of refurbishment taking place. We decided to leave after two days on 5/16/23. Upon arriving home, i saw that they charged my credit card for 4 nights instead of 2. I called the hotel to point out their error. What a nightmare! I was on hold for nearly an hour. They entered the wrong check out date on my bill but to convince them i actually checked out i had to provide Uber receipts to the airport, my flight reservation that i changed, and the bill they had given me when i checked out. And then they said they had to review it and it would take about 3-4 days!!!???? Beware - check your departure date on your bill when you check out. We won't be going back.

When Elon Musk set up Tesla’s factory in China, he made a bet that brought him cheap parts and capable workers — a bet that made him ultrarich and saved his company.

Mara Hvistendahl, an investigative reporter for The Times, explains why, now, that lifeline may have given China the tools to beat Tesla at its own game.

On today’s episode

Background reading

A pivot to China saved Elon Musk. It also bound him to Beijing .

Mr. Musk helped create the Chinese electric vehicle industry. But he is now facing challenges there as well as scrutiny in the West over his reliance on China.
