Closer look: Feadship superyacht Zen captured in Southampton
Feadship’s 88.38 metre superyacht Zen has been spotted in Southampton following delivery earlier this month.
The yacht has been based in Southampton since May 7 after departing the Dutch yard on May 6, according to BOAT Pro data.

Zen , which was formerly known as Project 816 , had previously been seen undertaking sea trials in the North Sea after first hitting the water on December 19.
The yacht features exterior design penned by De Voogt while interiors come courtesy of Nauta Design and FM Architettura .
Spread across four decks, Zen is built from a steel hull and aluminium superstructure and has a beam of 13.5 metres.
Accommodation on board is for a total of 16 guests and a crew of 25.
Also underway at Feadship is the 118m Project 1010, which hit the water in October 2020 .

Sinot and Feadship create “ZEN” Super Yachts
ZEN is the result of a close cooperation of two longtime partners in the yachting world, Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design and Feadship Royal Dutch Shipyards. Through the years, Henk de Vries and Sander Sinot regularly conferred on the future of yachting, based on their joint experience and collaboration developing yachts. Remarkable parallels in their clients’ visions were revealed: a desire for more efficiency and less unnecessary space. The revelation inspired Sinot to design a shared vision of a new generation of super yachts, with technical and naval architecture input from Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects – the 80m super yacht ZEN.
Unique features Sinot’s ZEN yacht design has unique features for an 80 meter yacht. The new approach starts with a deliberate evaluation of a ship’s internal volume, or the gross tonnage (GT) aboard. Clients wished to limit the number of lounges, with owners often spending a large proportion of their time in one preferred lounge, at one particular deck. The result? ZEN concentrates all the owner’s spaces at only two decks.
Wedding-cake Super yacht ZEN is unique in its use of space, the profile breaks from the typical ‘wedding-cake’ appearance, without sacrificing any useable space. Rather than a vertical extension of combined rooms, this yacht provides interior space over the full length of the bridge deck and main deck. All lounges, interior spaces and exterior decks are positioned and proportioned to provide ultimate functionality and optimal inside-out experience. The aft section of the superstructure features a stunning 13 meter lounge, in which the sides and aft glass corners open fully to the exterior deck. The midsection has an inside-outside dining area with sliding doors to each side that can pocket fully and a skylight. Expandable balconies on both sides provide space for an aperitif. The forward section consists of a high-tech bridge with floating consoles and two guest settees. Outside, a vast and versatile exterior deck of almost 500 square meters is suitable for lounging, sunbathing, sports activities and parties. The area expands by an additional 100 square meters when the aft lounge is opened. An 8 meter swimming pool is located on the aft deck, with a large Jacuzzi on the foredeck.
Cost-effective ZEN can be built tomorrow. It is the belief of Henk de Vries that it should be offered to markets in a cost-effective way. The yacht incorporates unique design features such as the magnificent inside-out space experience, typical of the Sinot design philosophy. Built by Feadship and born from a shared knowledge and expertise of the super yacht market, clients will be assured of a perfect product. De Vries and Sinot believe this new concept can encourage clients to enter new realms of optimization and efficiency, while enjoying a prime space experience. Zen: A new typology of super yachts.

Zen, the superyacht where glass space reinvents space
Sinot and Feadship unveiled a few days before the Monaco Yacht Show an 80m superyacht concept called Zen. After Symmetry, the design firm announces with ZEN a new generation of yachts, more efficient and with less useless space.
The superyacht ZEN has been designed to break with the usual wedding cake yacht designs, i.e. with high and numerous superstructures. Its streamlined design and three bridges break the codes of these tiered superstructures. This yacht is the result of a close collaboration between two long-standing partners in the yachting world, Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design and Feadship Royal Dutch Shipyards. Over the years, Henk de Vries and Sander Sinot have regularly participated in the evolution of yachting by pooling their experiences and collaborating on the development of yachts .
ZEN has unique characteristics for an 80 m superyacht, notably with an interior volume designed to be larger and a gross tonnage (GT) designed to be smaller. For example, customers wanted to limit the number of lounges to one preferred lounge on a specific bridge, where they would spend a large portion of their time. Thus, ZEN concentrates all proprietary spaces on only two decks.
Despite the more compact superstructures, the interior space is still just as important. Thus, it extends over the entire length of the upper and main decks. All lounges, interior spaces and exterior decks are positioned and sized to provide ultimate functionality and an optimal indoor/outdoor experience.
On the upper deck, there is a 13 m long salon with fully glazed walls that opens completely onto the outer deck. The latter is also occupied by a swimming pool 8 m long at the rear. The central part of the upper deck is occupied by an interior/exterior dining room with sliding doors on each side, which open onto extendable balconies to create additional space.
The main deck has a panoramic aft saloon with 360° glazing that allows natural light to flow in while the cantilevered surface provides privacy. This panoramic lounge which extends over almost the entire width of the yacht is doubled by a cinema area.
At the bow of the main deck, there is a full width space reserved for the owner's bedroom, the owner's lounge, the owner's office, as well as dressing rooms and a bathroom. On the sides, the high glass façades offer a panoramic view of the ocean from the bedroom, the living room and the office. With sophisticated materials, Sinot Yacht designers have managed to create a warm and intimate atmosphere to allow the owner to retire in privacy.
The VIP cabins have been designed as places with a refined and hospitable atmosphere to welcome family and close friends. A refuge for tranquility, retirement, comfort, rest and sleep. All VIP cabins are spacious with large windows or glass facades that offer both plenty of light and a view of the sea.
The wheelhouse has innovative equipment, including a dual steering system. The view is unobstructed thanks to the sloping glass fronts, while two additional seats allow the guests to enjoy all the manoeuvres carried out by the captain and his crew . On the foredeck there is plenty of space, as well as a jacuzzi and comfortable sofas.
The large bathing platform offers easy access to the water and extends the full width of the yacht. Here you can enjoy sunbathing, water sports or parties in the evening, while enjoying a breathtaking view of the sea. On the sides, the platform can extend and add an additional space of 20m2 to create a real beach deck. The space decorated with carved wood is equipped with LED lights that change colors and intensity according to the times of day or the desires of the owners.
The spa and gym, located on the main deck, also benefit from glass surfaces that open onto a balcony, to enjoy a little air.

Sinot and feadship present the 80m yacht concept zen.
ZEN should be a new typology of yachts. The project partners promise seaworthiness in combination with a beach house and a loft. One of the key features is the panoramic lounge at the stern. In combination with the beach platform a wonderful place during the times at anchor.
The owner’s full-beam suite is located on the main deck with owner’s lounge, office, his and hers dressing and bathroom. Furthermore, there are full height windows for a lovely view over the sea. Also, the VIP cabins have full height windows.
Relaxation is also a key feature of the ZEN concept. Guests can enjoy a spacious spa area on the main deck. The sides can be opened to balconies. The gym provides all equipment for a workout. For guests who are interested in nautic, the bridge offers extra seats to look the captain over the shoulder.
