50 Ship Tattoo Ideas: Nautical Designs that Navigate the Skin
Ship tattoos are timeless designs that have been popular for decades. They symbolize a sense of adventure, exploration, and the excitement of discovering new horizons.
Whether you’re a sailor or simply love the sea, a ship tattoo is a great way to showcase your passion for the ocean.
In this guide, we’ll explore some ship tattoo ideas that can help you navigate the sea of tattoo designs and find the perfect one for you.
History of Ship Tattoos
In the 1700s and 1800s, sailors often got tattoos of ships to commemorate their journeys at sea. These tattoos were also a way for sailors to show their expertise and experience in sailing.
A sailor with a ship tattoo was someone who had been around the world and had likely seen things that few others at home had.
During the 19th century, ship tattoos became more popular and began to feature more intricate designs.
Sailors would often get tattoos of specific ships, such as the ship they served on or the ship that brought them home after a long journey.
Some sailors even got tattoos of famous ships from history, such as the HMS Victory or the USS Constitution.
In the early 20th century, ship tattoos continued to be popular among sailors. However, the designs began to evolve to include more abstract and artistic depictions of ships. The Sailor Jerry tattoo style was popularized at this time.

Sailors began to incorporate other nautical elements into their tattoos, such as anchors, mermaids, and compasses.
Today, ship tattoos are still popular among sailors and non-sailors alike. The designs have become even more elaborate and intricate, incorporating elements of realism and fantasy.
Some people get ship tattoos to honor their own sailing experiences, while others get them simply because they appreciate the beauty and symbolism of ships.
Regardless of the reason, ship tattoos remain a beloved and enduring symbol of the seafaring life.

Ship Tattoo Symbolism
Like any tattoo, ship tattoos can have different meanings depending on the individual who wears them.
Some of the most common symbolism associated with ship tattoos include:
- Adventure: Ship tattoos represent the spirit of adventure and the excitement of discovering new lands. Venturing from the safety of dry land onto the water is a leap of faith.
- Freedom: For many people, ships represent freedom and the ability to travel anywhere in the world.
- Overcoming adversity: Sailors face many challenges at sea, and a ship tattoo can symbolize the ability to overcome adversity.
- Strength and resilience: Ships must be strong and resilient to survive the harsh conditions of the sea, and a ship tattoo can represent these qualities.
- Nostalgia: For some, ship tattoos represent a sense of nostalgia for a bygone era of sailing.
- Independence: The ability to travel freely and do as one pleases are characteristics we associate with sailors and therefore ships.
- A love for the ocean: Ships are vessels for navigating the ocean. They are designed to work in harmony with the sea. A tattoo of one can therefore symbolize our relationship with the ocean .
- A journey: A ship can represent a spiritual journey to new places. From metaphorically deep water to places more enjoyable and comfortable.

The Biblical Meaning of Ships
Ships are mentioned throughout the Bible, and they can have different meanings depending on the context. Here are some of the mentions and what they can mean. Although like much in the Bible, it’s open to interpretation.
- A means of transportation: In the Bible, ships were often used to transport people and goods across the sea. For example, in Acts 27, the Apostle Paul and his companions were shipwrecked on the island of Malta while sailing from Caesarea to Rome.
- A symbol of prosperity: In the Old Testament, ships were often associated with trade and commerce, which were sources of wealth and prosperity. For example, in 1 Kings 10:22, it is said that King Solomon had a fleet of ships that brought him gold, silver, ivory, and apes from distant lands.
- A symbol of salvation: In the New Testament, ships can symbolize salvation or deliverance. For example, in Matthew 14:22-33, Jesus walked on water and calmed the storm that was threatening the boat that his disciples were in. This demonstrated his power over nature and his ability to save those who put their trust in him.
- A symbol of faith: In the Bible, ships can also symbolize faith or trust in God. For example, in Hebrews 11:7, Noah built an ark in faith, trusting that God would save him and his family from the flood.
- A symbol of the church: In some interpretations, ships can symbolize the church, which is seen as a vessel that carries people to salvation. This idea is reflected in hymns like “Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me,” which compares Jesus to a pilot who guides the ship of the church through the storms of life.

- Traditional naval tattoos: what's the meaning behind them?
Sailor tattoos go back thousands of years. While today anyone can get an anchor, a swallow or a sailboat tattooed on their body, in the past these tattoos had a distinct meaning. So, who were these motifs reserved for and what did they say about their bearer? Let's take a closer look.
1. Tattoos as a log
The roots of traditional tattoos go back to the 16th century (from the Samoan word tatau , meaning "to strike"). They were brought to Europe by sailors as a souvenir from the Pacific islands, where the natives decorated their bodies with them. With sailors, we mean people who are sailing with sailboats and not motor yachts . Originally, gunpowder and urine were used instead of ink.
Most commonly, tattoos served as a kind of logbook — a history confirming a sailor's experience at sea and a reminder of the places they'd visited and achievements accomplished. Certain motifs were also used to show their courage and skill .
What is the meaning of a swallow tattooed on a sailor? Or even two? One thing is for sure, you'd definitely have a highly experienced sailor in front of you. Only a sailor who had sailed 5,000 nautical miles was allowed to get a tattoo of a swallow. And why the swallow in particular? Strongly associated as a symbol of return, the swallow is able to cover great distances and still get back home. Because of this, the tattoo was also used for good luck and protection.
And if you saw a sailor with a tattoo of a swallow pierced with a dagger , they'd most likely had it tattooed in memory of a fellow sailor who'd died.
Fully-rigged ship (three-masted sailing boat)
This tattoo could only be earned by those who'd sailed around Cape Horn — the bravest and the best, who had fearlessly set out on the high seas completely at its mercy. Similarly, only a sailor who had circumnavigated Cape Horn could wear an earring and always on the ear that had faced the mainland.
Shellback turtle
Even the humble turtle illustrated sailing experience and a turtle shell was proudly displayed by sailors who had crossed the equator . Tattoos depicting Neptune also demonstrated this fact.
YACHTING.COM TIP: Motifs from the animal kingdom were (and still are) very popular. Can you guess which sailors would get a polar bear tattoo? Unsurprisingly, it was those heroes who had crossed the Arctic Circle. Submarine crews in the navy got a dolphin tattoo and a shark was a symbol of protection and almost sacred respect (due to the shark's extraordinary abilities ). For those who don't sail, it has become a symbol of sheer strength.
Dragon tattoos
Dragon tattoos adorned sailors who had sailed in China . The golden dragon, on the other hand, was reserved for individuals who had crossed the International Date Line — an internationally agreed line that runs around the world at the 180th meridian, marking the transition from one calendar day to the next.
Rose pierced with a dagger
A rose pierced with a dagger is a symbol of a sailor who's brave and willing to battle against anything . Even against something as sweet and pure as a rose.
HOLD and FAST on the fingers
Fast reactions in poor weather conditions, holding the helm, and keeping the boat perfectly positioned are important skills for a sailor. HOLD and FAST inscribed on the fingers, one word on each hand, meant that if you were headed out on rough seas, you could be sure this sailor wouldn't let you down.
2. Tattoos of women, girls, and mermaids
These tattoos helped fill the void of loneliness and the absence of women on board ( although there were exceptions ) over long periods at sea. And occasionally they had specific meaning.
These beauties belonged to men who sailed in Hawaii .
Pin-up girl
This tattoo was simply a reminder of the love they'd left ashore.
Commonly chosen by those who wanted to demonstrate their love for the open sea . A sea that seduces them despite its inherent danger and unpredictability.

3. tattoos for luck and for the superstitious.
Sailing has always been a demanding and risky profession which led to a high degree of superstition. As a result, certain tattoos were inked in the hopes of warding off bad luck and bringing good fortune.
Anchor tattoo
An anchor is the safest and most secure thing at sea, and it has long been a symbol of protection , stability, and security. Representing honour , loyalty , and, of course, hope , an anchor tattoo was frequently accompanied by a heart, the words "Mom" or "Dad," or a sweetheart's name. Anchor tattoos were also for sailors who had successfully completed a journey across the Atlantic Ocean.
Lighthouse
The lighthouse is a symbol of light, hope and protection . Seafarers look to it and are guided by it in times of need . Occasionally, it could also symbolize God as the principal bearer of light.
Pig and rooster tattoo
For superstitious sailors, these animals were adorned as protection against shipwrecking and a guarantee of survival. But why these animals, which can't even swim or save us from drowning? The answer is that these animals were often kept on board in wooden crates which rarely sank in an accident, often being washed ashore with the animals still safe and sound.
These tattoos were worn on the feet or ankles . But if there was a pig on the left knee and a rooster on the right foot, then the tattoo signified the old saying: “Pig on the knee, safety at sea. A cock on the right, never lose a fight.”
YACHTING.COM TIP: Do you enjoy exploring the history of sailing? Take a look at our articles about the mysterious world of seafaring customs and superstitions or the patron saints and protectors of sailors .
Nautical star or compass rose
Purely for superstitious reasons, a nautical star or compass rose tattoo was to help sailors voyage at night and return them home safely.
4. Tattoos that represent a role on a ship
These tattoos are generally quite self-explanatory. For example, fishermen and members of whaling expeditions decorated themselves with a harpoon whilst crossed cannons indicated military service. So, what other tattoos showed a sailor's dedication to their role or their profession on a ship?
Crossed anchors
This tattoo was reserved for lower deck officers (lieutenants bosun — boatswain ) and were worn on the hand between the thumb and forefinger. On the left hand, it indicated that the officer had sailed all the oceans and on the right, it showed that they had sailed the seven seas .
Rope tattoo on the wrist
A tattoo of a knot tied on a rope around the wrist was reserved for those who took care of the ship — the bosun and the deck officers .
In the 19th century, the red devil was a common tattoo for engineers, firefighters, machinists, electricians and all who worked in the engine room , known as "The Pit" . The conditions and the extreme temperatures there were often likened to the fiery depths of hell :).
The dice tattoo was for risk-takers and those who loved to gamble.
And what do nautical tattoos mean today?
Nowadays, tattoos don't really tell us anything about a sailor’s experience but nautical symbolism is still very popular and when created by the hands of professional tattooists, they are beautiful works of art.

The Ink Of Sailors: Exploring Nautical Tattoo Designs
The art of tattooing has made a mark on cultures and societies across the world for centuries. One sub-culture and profession that developed its own style of tattooing – that is still popular design inspiration in this day and age – is maritime life and sailors.
Nautical tattoos were created in response to life at sea in the 17th century and typically include images of sea creatures, boats, anchors, compasses, and other nautical elements. Nautical tattoos have a rich history, and many of the designs are steeped in mysticism and meaning.
When Did Nautical Tattoos Develop?
Before planes, the only way to travel to far-distant continents was by boat. When Captain James Cook and his fellow sailors traversed the oceans, they met Polynesian tribes and were introduced to the art of tattooing.
“These sailors wanted to bring back a record of this style of tattooing, and there’s no way to take a tattoo home except in your skin…Aboard a ship, you don’t have much room to carry fancy souvenirs, so you end up getting tattoos as travel marks,” Collector’s Weekly
By the time the late 18th century rolled around, navy records showed that around one-third of British and a fifth of American sailors had at least one tattoo.
Popular Nautical Tattoos And Their Meanings
As the decades went on, sailors developed their own specific style of tattooing that represented their trials and triumphs. Not only that, but tattoos fed into many superstitious beliefs about life onboard a ship, so some tattoos were also seen as a way of protecting oneself from the dangers of the ocean.
A pioneer of sailor tattoos – which is also known as the traditional American style – was a man named Sailor Jerry.
He was an American who traveled around the country developing his tattoo style. He went on to the navy, and, after World War Two, opened his own tattoo shop in Hawaii where he focused on sailor tattoos.
In the 19th century, these tattoos developed bold, simple designs with thick black outlines and saturated color palettes. Sailor tattoos are perfect for those looking for eye-catching, masculine tattoo designs.
Anchor Tattoo
An anchor is a symbol of stability and security , as this is what was used to secure ships.
“In the navy, sailors get an anchor tattoo after successfully crossing and returning across the Atlantic Ocean,” Tat Ring
Something that often accompanies an anchor tattoo is a banner with a loved one’s name, such as a partner’s name or “Mom” or “Dad”. This can be done as a reminder of the person who is keeping you grounded among the treacherous waters of life.

Shark Tattoo
There are scary things in the ocean, one being sharks. These kings of the deep seem to have a calm yet deadly demeanor.
“Sharks have no natural predators (much like the lion as being ‘king’ of the jungle) and tattoos of them can represent an unwillingness to be victimized or intimidated by others. As an animal they are quite emotionless and steely yet always seemingly maintain their sense of calm and determination,” Cloak and Dagger London
- What Do Shark Tattoos Mean?
Mermaid Tattoo
The mythical mermaid is a popular theme in the sailor body art world. A sailor mermaid tattoo is often done in a pinup style with exaggerated feminine features.
“Pin-up girls represent the ideal and extremes of femininity – from maidenly perfection to vixen-ish temptation. The woman inked on a sailor’s arm would be the only feminine form he would see for months,” Sailor Jerry
Mermaids were believed to be beautiful half-women who could lure sailors to their death. So, a mermaid tattoo can be a symbol of both the beauty and danger of the sea.
- The Symbolism Behind Mermaid Tattoos
Swallow Tattoo
A swallow tattoo is what’s known as a ‘milestone tattoo’ in the sailor world. Each swallow represents 5,000 nautical miles traveled.
“…sailors would get the swallow inked to commemorate the distance they had traveled across the seas and as a talisman for safe travels. The sailors would get tattoos of swallows with the belief that it would help them return home safe, just as the swallows do every year,” Authority Tattoo
- What Does Your Swallow Tattoo Say About You?
Nautical Stars
Also known as a compass star or compass rose, a nautical star is one of the most popular traditional sailor tattoos. This star is five-pointed with alternating light and dark shading.
The nautical star was commonly used by sailors as a navigational tool to help them chart a course through the sea. It is also considered a symbol of good luck and safe travels, so it was often placed on the exterior of a ship to guide sailors to safety.
“The folklore says these tattoos would ensure safe passage of the sailors despite angry seas, and rough weather conditions. Following this, nautical stars came to be symbols of hope for those back home, who in their quiet abodes prayed for the safe return of the beloved sailors,” Thoughtful Tattoos

Ship’s Wheel Tattoo
Of course, one of the most important aspects of a ship is its wheel – it guides the ship and steers it out of dangerous territory. It is a popular and deeply meaningful symbol in maritime life and body art.
“The ship’s wheel can represent someone trying to find their way through the rough seas that we call ‘life’. It reminds the wearer that we all must choose a path, right or wrong, through unseen dangers while at the mercy of mighty forces out of our control,” Tat Ring
- The Meaning of Traditional Ship Tattoos
Sailor tattoos are no longer exclusively for people whose lives are spent on the water. The meanings behind these tattoos can relate to so many facets and complexities of life. It’s little wonder why so many people relate to nautical tattoos and their symbolism.

Now you may be reading this because you have a tattoo somewhere on your body and youre not entirely sure if it’s going to affect you getting a job on a yacht.
If you have tried to google the ‘Can I work on a yacht with a tattoo’ or read about it on Facebook groups you will find a mixed bag of answers so hopefully I can provide some insight
Firstly, do you have a tattoo? Is it visible? What type of boat are you hoping to work on, sail yacht or motor yacht? Is the tattoo offensive? Are you aiming to be a yacht stewardess? A deckhand? An Engineer?
There are a lot of factors to consider when you have a tattoo and you’re trying to get a job onboard. The main one is if it is visible with a uniform on . So for females in the interior thats skort and polo dress for the males on deck thats shorts to the knee and a polo and for engineers you’re quite lucky as tattoos are generally more acceptable as you are more ‘behind the scenes’ not on show to the guests onboard.
If you have a visible tattoo don’t worry it is not the end of your not even started yachting career. Getting your first job in yachting with a tattoo may mean It could take slightly longer to get your first job or you may not be offered a certain role due to management policies or owner preferences however this doesn’t mean there aren’t other boats who don’t mind tattoos. Don’t just give up!
If you are dockwalking or going for an interview it is best to cover them up by wearing a long sleeve polo or trousers. Remember yachting is always about first impressions and we don;t want a bad one or the judgement which can come from tattoos.
So you may be wondering should I write on my resume that I have tattoos?
I would say yes and then put visible or not visible. You don’t want to waste anyones time, if it’s an owners preference the chief officer looking to hire has no say in this, he is simply following the rules. The boat may ask for photos to clarify how visible the tattoo may be and to see it before they offer you a job. This is normal.
Which boats will be more likely to employ crew with tattoos?
It depends on a lot of factors like owner preference, management policiy, but generally speaking smaller yachts under 55m tend to be more relaxed about tattoos. And then there are sailing yachts which tend to be more casual so generally speaking tattoos aren’t as big of an issue as opposed to on larger motor yachts.
I have also found charter yachts are strict with employing crew without tattoos as they have a variety of guests onboard.
From my experience working on boats over 60m, the interior and exterior team have not had any visible tattoos. I actually got my small foot tattoo removed as I was conscious of it when I ‘had’ to go swimming with guests, it was not visible until I removed my shoe. I didn’t want it to an issue for future job roles so I just got it removed. Ouch and those machines hurt! However you don’t have to do this, I have a friend on a sailing boat who has dainty tattoos all up her arm, it’s not a problem. And another friend who has smaller arm tattoos and she worked on 55m motor yacht and also on some really fabulous boats! It’s not impossible … however it will definitely be harder to find work with visible tattoos. There are more sail yachts willing to take on crew with tattoos than motor yachts. Just make sure that your skills and your work ethic exceeds any issues anyone can have with your tattoos.
You may have to put in a bit of extra time and effort in securing a position but ultimately there will be a boat which will see beyond your body art and employ you based on the fact you are good at your job and a good candidate

Sailboat Tattoo Meaning, Design & Ideas
When it’s that certain time of the season and you look out on the waters, you are bound to see people sailing their boats. These days, seeing sailboats on the water lets us know it is time to come outside and enjoy the weather, however, this isn’t always the case. Some sailboats are large and are used to sail in any weather.
They are able to navigate storms and push through rough weather. The sailboat can represent the serene and also the storm. Because they are able to symbolize many ideas and traits, you will see a lot of sailboat tattoos out there.
Sailboats are not just dainty two-man boats. They can also be giant works of art that take a whole crew to navigate. Whether you are looking for a mid-day sail on the lake or to navigate the rough waters of the sea, the sailboat is your answer. Not only are they used today but they were used by everyone before the motorized boat was created. There are lots of stories and lore attached to the sailboat and when you find out about these tales, it might make you consider getting yourself a sailboat tattoo.
In this post, we are going to review some of the history surrounding the sailboat. Then we will talk about the meaning of the sailboat tattoo and what it means to those who decided to have the sailboat immortalized on their body. Between the stories and symbolism of the sailboat, you will have a really fascinating tattoo that you can be proud of. We will also talk about some of the variations of the sailboat tattoo.
History of the Sailboat
When humans figured out how to catch wind with material to make a boat move, there was no looking back. For the earliest rafts and boats, animal skins were used for sails. In ancient Egypt, the people made these sails by using mats and weaving reeds into them. That being said, the Egyptians were the first to create sails made of cloth and this was around 3300 BC.
The great Phoenicians sailed with cloth sails as well. Over the years, many materials have been used to create sails including flax, jute, hemp and ramie. Flax was the main material used but was replaced by cotton as the processing of cotton became easier. The cotton sail got a big push in popularity as they used it on a yacht from the United States called America for a race. The US yacht sailed around the Isle of Wight off the coast of England and beat 14 British sailboats.
The first sailboats in the water started as simple rafts and single logs. As time and learning progressed, more intricate logs started being used. Much of this was moved along by the military but also by merchant sailors who were trading extensively throughout the Mediterranean Sea. While there were daysailers made for men who used them for recreation and fishing, there were also smaller duplicates of these ships called cutters and schooners.
Naval architecture started to take place around 1900 and that is when more efficient hulls and other parts of the boat were built to make for a fast and efficient boat. Aerodynamics have also been a focus since those days and now these sailboats can move extremely fast.
Sailboat Tattoo Meaning
Now that you have a little history of sailboats and how their sails were created, let’s move into the stuff you’ve been curious about. What does the sailboat tattoo mean?
That’s not a clear answer as the image means something different to each person. However, there are some noted symbolic meanings that we will talk about. For those who don’t follow those meanings, the sailboat might have a nostalgic meaning to them. Maybe their family had a sailboat and the tattoo reminds them of better and carefree times. The person with the sailboat tattoo might also have a passion for sailing. These are all great reasons to get your very own sailboat tattoo.
Sailing can also represent a spiritual voyage so someone with that sailboat tattoo might be heading towards their own enlightenment. Tattoos are a great way to keep things in perspective and remember what your goals were. In that same realm, sailing also symbolizes exploration, adventure and new beginnings. Your spiritual journey will be an adventure and it won’t come easy. When we are trying to figure things out in our lives, it doesn’t always come easy. We might be going through hard times. In terms of sailing, we are heading right into the storm or are already in it.
The sailboat also has symbolism for those who are actually on the water a great deal. Back in the day, people would get these nautical tattoos to represent their place in the world or what they were interested in. Sailor Jerry’s tattoos included the ship and other nautical themes. They were important for the sailor and many of those tattoos are still being inked today. They may not be for the same reasons but there is respect involved for our history of sailors.
Sailboat Tattoo Variations
There are many variations of the sailboat tattoo and many symbols that can be added to the tattoo to enhance the symbolism. Below are a few examples of sailboat tattoos and the imagery that might be tacked on to it.
Traditional Sailboat Tattoo
Traditional sailboats or Sailor Jerry ships are very popular tattoos among that style of tattooing. This tattoo might symbolize the lifestyle of the person wearing that tattoo. It is also said that a ship with full sails was told the story of a sailor’s trip around Cape Horn. Cape Horn is the area of the ocean where the Pacific and Atlantic meet.
Sailboat and Lighthouse Tattoo
The sailboat and lighthouse tattoo was one that symbolized safety at sea. The lighthouse was supposed to be a symbol that protected against your ship crashing into the rocks. It was also said to symbolize shelter and home.
Sailboat and Compass Tattoo
The sailboat and compass tattoo was a symbol of navigation for the sailor. The compass represents a sailor’s ability to always find his way back home. Not all sailors were lucky enough to make it back to their families so any symbol that brought good luck was a welcome symbol.

With the emergence of ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean movie series, the love for the rulers of the sea increased manifold. So if you plan on looking for Davy Jones’s locker, encountering the mythical Kraken, or going to the end of the world, then a Pirate boat tattoo design might just be what you are looking for.
The above picture is a prime example of a unique and dark tattoo design. The cool sleeve arm design shows a pirate ship under the skeleton of a pirate. These dark and detailed elements can bring out a great yet personal body art where deep passion can be found. If you are a fan of the anime ‘One Piece’, then you are in luck! You can definitely go for similar pirate tattoos. So, there is no need for parley, just watch the sun on the horizon singing, ‘Yo Ho Ho, and a bottle of Rum’!
Fishing Boat Tattoo
What is considered as a leisure or a favourite pastime for others can also become a popular and great tattoo choice for many people including both men and women. A wide type of fishing boat and other fishing-related and associated boats that usually sail calmly in the sea can be inked by both men and women as a full sleeve design.
Fishing is fun, unique, and a cool way that people take part actively in. Thus, having a full painting of a boat can be simple yet cute. Just like the above picture, a fishing trawler can be seen with a school of swordfish jumping from the water. So sailors, what are you waiting for? Look for an artist and get the ink of life on your wrist or leg. These tattoo ideas are good body art designs that depict unique styles and once you ink them, they can uplift the mood on a dark night.
Row Boat Tattoo
‘Row, row, row your boat’ is a famous nursery rhyme that we have listened to while growing up and now can become a cool tattoo design or a new style to show your love for boats or ships. Be it sailing or rowing a boat, it can be a great experience for both men and women.
As shown in the above picture, we can see a man rowing a single boat out in the sea. The picture is a lovely representation of Pink Floyd’s iconic album art ‘The Endless River’. So all you Pink Floyd fans, gather round and go for this simple, yet unique art that is bound to look cool as sleeve or half sleeve tattoos .
Simple Boat Tattoo
Simplicity can often be the best what one can wish for. And that too is also valid when it comes to tattoo ideas. While a majority of people believe in going for unique, complex sleeve style tattoos, it is often seen that simple style tattoo ideas steal the show with their simplicity and elegance.
The innocent style and unique art style of a tattoo artist can be brought out by just a simple outline of a boat calmly sailing across the sea. Art appeals to the viewer, so search for your own simple boat related tattoo design and ask your artist to ink the very best design which you crave so dearly!
Nautical Abstract Tattoos
In recent times, complex and abstract art have taken the globe by storm and similar is the case with tattoos. These tattoos are not only cute but also bring out the creativity of the artist who designs these drawings. Abstract art can have a wide array of things ranging from comic to mythical elements encased in an abstract concept.
Just like the picture above, we can see a ship being crushed and finally engulfed by a creature that seems to be a hybrid of an octopus and a squid. A squid has 10 legs while an octopus has 8 legs. However, the beast in this tattoo design has 9 legs and is seen to crush the ship. This beast is supposedly loosely based on the Scandinavian sea monster Kraken which is infamous for destroying ships in the ocean. So what are you waiting for? Go for some cool nautical tattoos with your own personalised tweaks!
Boat Tattoo With Compass
For every journey, you need to know where you are heading. And the best device that gives the accurate direction of the journey is a compass. Ever since its invention, this device has come in handy for all travellers and sailors are no exception to that. Thus, having a tattoo design of a boat with a compass makes all the sense.
In the above picture, we can see a splendid boat tattoo and a lovely compass pointing towards the north. Above, we can see an abstract glimpse where a boy is sitting on a crescent moon with a fishing rod. This added element brings extra charm to the design thereby making it cute.
Sailor Tattoos With Boat
A sailor is the commander of the boat or ship and having a design that has pictures of sailors in them can be a perfect tribute to them.
In general, these tattoos are known to be in full sleeve designs and are usually preferred by men. Tattoos of ships and sailors are unique and thus can be a perfect way to flaunt your tattoo out in the street!
Paper Boat Tattoo
Many of our childhood memories are full of making paper boats in the rain and playing with them. We cannot deny that those are some of the fondest memories we have of our childhood. These tattoos usually represent the innocence, and a sense of joy, freedom, and ecstasy you have felt in your younger days. Sailors can be seen donning these tattoos as well.
Watercolour designs work wonders with simple outline tattoos and that can be very well seen in the picture above. You can go for detailed structured paper boat tattoos as well. Choose your favourite and ink them.
American Traditional Tattoo Of Boats
Though different styles of tattoos have evolved over the ages, however, as the saying goes, ‘Old is Gold’, remains eternally true. Old School American tattoos are traditional design styles and they will never go out of fashion.
Ship tattoo designs like the one shown above is a perfect example of an old school style of tattoo design. The nautical design depicts seas in which a ship sails with birds flying in the clouds. These ship tattoos or body art are extremely cool and unique and can often serve as sleeve style tattoos that can be inked on the arm as well as other body parts like the leg or on the chest and wrist. These tattoos can be inked by both men and women and little tweaks like pirates, a vessel or a modern portrait can prove to be wonderful designs.
Other than the tattoo design ideas we have suggested, there are more you can opt for. Such as full sleeve ocean and boat tattoos, boat and sea world tattoos, Kraken and ship tattoos, and more. These tattoo designs not only brings an added zest to the normal options that are available but also brings about a diverse range in terms of culture and traditions that are associated with tattoos. With viewers of the modern age being hooked to the iconic series ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ there are going to be many tattoo enthusiasts who would be looking to get their first tattoo inked that of a ship or a boat!

Plus, boat tattoo designs can be the mirror of some our most hidden wishes. Have you ever stopped in the middle of the road, lost in a picture of a far-away land? Maybe it was an exotic paradise, an island in the middle of the ocean? Those who dream about crossing the ocean on a boat hide within themselves the spirit of the greatest adventurers. And what is an adventure if not the will to learn and discover something new?
The fact is that boats are truly a unique symbol of human curiosity. They are the material expression of the desire human feel to move beyond the known and into the unknown. For centuries boats have been the only bridge between us and the ocean, a terrifying, magical place where humans don’t belong. They are the key to enter a universe made of water and mystery.
Somehow, then, boat tattoo designs can be an original, artistic way to pay homage to human courage and curiosity, a way to connect with our subconscious will to explore, our desire to find new horizons beyond what we already know. Look at our pictures, find something you like, imagine yourself standing on your boat in the middle of the ocean: how does it feel? What do you smell? What do you see? Is there someone with you or you are alone with your courage?

What Happened to Tattoo Yachts
For many years, Tattoo Yachts was a well-known and respected name in the yacht industry. The company was known for producing high-quality, custom-built yachts that were in high demand among sailing enthusiasts. However, in recent years, Tattoo Yachts seems to have disappeared from the market, leaving many people wondering what happened to the once-thriving company. In this article, we will explore the rise and fall of Tattoo Yachts and try to understand what led to the company’s apparent downfall.

The Rise of Tattoo Yachts
Tattoo Yachts was founded in the early 2000s by a team of experienced sailing enthusiasts and boat builders. The company quickly gained a reputation for producing top-of-the-line yachts that were not only beautiful but also highly functional and seaworthy. Tattoo Yachts offered a range of customizations and personalizations, allowing customers to create the yacht of their dreams.
One of the reasons for Tattoo Yachts’ early success was its commitment to quality and craftsmanship. The company’s yachts were built to the highest standards, using the best materials and the latest technology. This attention to detail made Tattoo Yachts stand out in a crowded market and attracted a loyal customer base.
The Decline of Tattoo Yachts
Despite its initial success, Tattoo Yachts began to face challenges in the mid-2010s. There were several factors that contributed to the company’s decline, including changes in consumer preferences, increased competition, and internal struggles.
Changes In Consumer Preferences
One of the main factors that led to Tattoo Yachts’ decline was a shift in consumer preferences. As the market evolved, there was a growing demand for smaller, more affordable yachts that were easy to operate and maintain. Tattoo Yachts, with its focus on custom-built luxury yachts, struggled to adapt to this change in demand and lost a significant portion of its customer base.
Increased Competition
Another challenge that Tattoo Yachts faced was increased competition from both traditional yacht builders and new entrants into the market. As the yacht industry grew more crowded, Tattoo Yachts found it difficult to compete with other companies that were offering similar products at lower prices. This increased competition put pressure on Tattoo Yachts’ profit margins and made it harder for the company to sustain its operations.
Internal Struggles
In addition to external challenges, Tattoo Yachts also faced internal struggles that contributed to its decline. There were reports of management issues, production delays, and financial difficulties within the company, which ultimately eroded its reputation and led to a loss of trust among customers and suppliers.
The Future of Tattoo Yachts
While the decline of Tattoo Yachts has been unfortunate, there is still hope for the company’s future. In recent years, there have been reports of potential partnerships and restructuring efforts aimed at reviving the brand and restoring its former glory. Additionally, there is still a dedicated community of Tattoo Yachts owners and enthusiasts who remain loyal to the brand and hope to see it make a comeback.
It remains to be seen whether Tattoo Yachts will be able to overcome the challenges it has faced and reclaim its position as a leading yacht manufacturer. However, the company’s legacy and reputation for quality and craftsmanship may provide a foundation for its revival.

How to convert a PowerPoint presentation to Google Slides
M icrosoft PowerPoint and Google Slides are popular software solutions for creating presentations. While PowerPoint has more features, Google Slides offers seamless collaboration, cross-platform availability, and an easy-to-use interface without a subscription. When you receive a PowerPoint presentation, convert it to Google Slides to continue editing and collaborating on it.
Converting a PowerPoint presentation to the Google Slides format has advantages, but it isn't a smooth process. Formatting issues can occur. You can use Google Drive or Google Slides to convert a PowerPoint presentation. This trick is also helpful when using a PowerPoint template with Google Slides.
Although Google Slides has apps for iPhone and Android , we focus on the company's web version.
Convert a PowerPoint to Google Slides Using Google Drive
You can upload a PowerPoint presentation to Google Drive and open it in Slides. It's the easiest way to convert from PowerPoint to Google Slides.
- Visit Google Drive on the web and sign in with your Google account details.
- Go to a relevant location. Select New in the upper-left corner and select File upload .
- Find your PowerPoint file (.pptx) in Finder (Mac) or File Explorer (Windows) and click Open .
- After uploading the file, Google Drive converts your PowerPoint file, making it compatible with Google Slides. Double-click it to open it in Google Slides.
- Or, right-click your PowerPoint file and expand the Open with menu. Select Google Slides .
Whether you use a .pptx or an older .ppt file, Google Drive automatically converts it to Slides. You can open it like a traditional Slides file and make changes.
How to add audio to your Google Slides presentation
Use google slides to convert a pptx file.
If you don't want to deal with Google Drive, you can import and use any PowerPoint file using Google Slides. Follow the steps below to make changes.
- Go to Google Slides on the web and create a blank presentation. Or, type slides.new in the address bar and press the Enter or Return key.
- Select File at the top and click Open .
- The following menu shows your recent files and several online and offline locations where you can import a file. Move to the Upload menu.
- Select Browse .
- Find and select your PowerPoint presentation and click Open .
- Google Slides converts and opens a PPT file in the Slides format.
There are times when you want to convert specific PowerPoint slides. Importing an entire presentation and deleting irrelevant slides isn't the most productive way. Instead, import selected slides using the steps below.
- Open a blank presentation in Google Slides (check the steps above).
- Click File and select Import slides .
- Select Upload and click Browse .
- Select your PowerPoint file and click Open .
- Check the number of presentation slides and select the ones you want to import. Click Import slides .
Your PowerPoint slides are ready for editing in Google Slides.
Advantages of Converting a PowerPoint to Google Slides
Here are the benefits of converting a PowerPoint file to Google Slides.
Easy access
Google Slides is a web app. Whether you use Slides on Windows, Mac, Linux, or ChromeOS, you only need a web browser to access and edit your presentations. PowerPoint also has a web app, but it has limited features compared to its desktop app.
Real-time collaboration
Although Microsoft offers real-time collaboration on PowerPoint, the sharing experience isn't as good as Google Slides. One or more users can work on a presentation simultaneously, share comments, and check tweaks instantly.
Free to use
PowerPoint desktop apps require an active Microsoft 365 subscription. In contrast, Google Slides is free to use. If one of your team members or a colleague doesn't have a Microsoft 365 plan, convert the PowerPoint presentation to Google Slides and invite them for collaboration.
What's the difference between Google Slides templates and themes?
Convert a powerpoint to google slides: our observations.
PowerPoint is a more powerful and feature-packed tool than Google Slides. You may lose some of the features and formatting during conversion. For instance, Google Slides doesn't support curved text and vector graphics. You may need to rework these slides before sharing them with others.
When you convert specific slides, turn on the Keep original theme option to carry over your PowerPoint theme to Slides. Then, after converting a PPTX file to Google Slides, recheck the slides to eliminate minor formatting issues.
Complete and collaborate your presentation in style
Whether you use PowerPoint or Google Slides, your pitch requires interactive visuals and fancy animations to attract people's attention. A bland and static presentation won't impress your audience. Creating an engaging presentation from scratch can be time-consuming. Check the top Google Slides templates for personal and work use and finish your presentation quickly.

Off the Hook Yachts Acquires 300-Slip Marina in Georgetown Maryland
The Acquisition
Off the Hook Yachts is proud to announce the acquisition of Georgetown Yacht Basin (GYB) now rebranding under Georgetown Yacht Haven – a 300-boat slip full-service marina located on the Sassafras River in Georgetown, MD. Off the Hook plans to restore the yacht basin to its former glory and reconnect with the local community in order to establish it as a household name in the area.
As our founder is originally from Maryland, this will complement our current presence in the area, along with our MD sales team, which currently operates out of Bay Bridge Marina. The acquisition of the marina will allow us to expand on sales, service, and custom-built Nor-Tech Performance Boat sales in the region. Georgetown Yacht Haven has 300 slips, two paint sheds that can hold up to a 110-foot yacht, a 110-ton travel lift, a fuel dock, a swimming pool, bathhouses, and a complete ship store, along with many other amenities. GYH controls the largest travel lift in Northern Chesapeake Bay.
About Off the Hook Yacht Sales

Off the Hook Yachts headquarters is in Wilmington, North Carolina, where it remains today. We have 12 other locations currently in the USA, with expansion plans for 2023. Additionally, OTH is proud to represent Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats from Georgia to Maine and Yellowfin Boats from Miami to the Florida Keys.
About Georgetown Yacht Haven

73m superyacht Yalla launched by CRN
Italian yacht builder CRN has launched its 73m superyacht Yalla .
CRN welcomed more than 1,000 guests to the launching ceremony of CRN 132 Yalla , held late this morning at its shipyard in Ancona, Italy. The launch ceremony included speeches from Alberto Galassi, new CEO of the Ferretti Group , Lamberto Tacoli, Chairman and CEO of CRN, Xinyu Xu, Vice-chairman of Weichai Group, and the Mayor of Ancona Valeria Mancinelli.
Part of the Ferretti Group, CRN specialises in custom yachts up to 90 metres in steel and aluminium. Yalla is the first yacht built by CRN on its new 12.5m beam platform. More than 430,000 hours from CRN and its subcontractors were spent on Yalla 's build, with contributions from 150 employees.
Exterior styling comes from Omega Architects in The Netherlands, in close collaboration with the CRN Engineering Department. The five-deck motor yacht features sleek, sporty lines and a streamlined profile. Superyacht Yalla 's interiors are by Droulers Architecture, working with CRN's Interiors and Design Office. She hosts up to 12 guests in its six cabins, including an owner's suite and VIP cabins, along with 22 crew members.
'Following the launch of CRN 133 61m superyacht a few months ago, we are proud to celebrate the launch of the new Yalla of 73m, which represents a challenge and an objective for the whole CRN shipyard,' says Lamberto Tacoli, Chairman and CEO of CRN. ' Yalla will mark another important result for the development of CRN in the world. A sincere thanks for the trust of the owner and for the work of all employees and subcontractors who have worked on the project, to the architects Franck Laupman of Omega Architects and to Droulers Architecture. I also thank our shareholder Weichai Group and the new CEO of the Group Alberto Galassi for their participation in this important event for CRN and for the whole Ferretti Group.'
The Ferretti Group currently has five superyachts underway at the Ancona shipyard, including the 74m CRN 131, 55m CRN 134, a Ferretti Custom Line CL 124, the 61m CRN 133 and the Riva 122 Mythos , which are at the delivery stage.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported
B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.
Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.
Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.
Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.
Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.
The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.
Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."
More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.
Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.
The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."
The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.
Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.
On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.
The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.
There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.

It takes something very special to impress the jilted residents of the exclusive French town of St. Tropez. Years ago we brought this depot for the rich and famous to a standstill arriving with Virgin Atlantic Challenger II, but we had just set a record across the Atlantic. Sprinting into the port with the striking new, 40-knot Pershing 115 did not quite have the same impact, but this beautiful yacht did stop onlookers in their tracks as they stood and stared.
With the 115, Pershing joins a select band of boatbuilders who are going over the 100-foot mark, taking a quantum leap from the 88-foot former flagship design. This yacht has twice the volume of anything Pershing has ever built. Moreover I was on the first hull and for a prototype design they have done a really superb job of meeting their design and perfomance goals.
Pershing boss Till Antonelli is justifiably proud of the 115. “We knew there was a market out there for a larger Pershing and I think we took a bold step in making the jump straight from 88 to 115 feet. The result is there for all to see and it is a tribute to our new factory and the people who work there, Antonelli says.
The power behind this monster is a pair of 16 cylinder MTU diesels from the 4000 range that produce 3,700 hp each. These engines are huge and they seem to stretch forever along the engine compartment. They are coupled to ZF gearboxes and then the drive goes to KaMeWa water jets in what proved to be a very smooth power train. The water jets are unique in that the inlet ducts of the jets are an integral part of the hull molding which gives a better water flow to the impellers and improves their efficiency.
The two diesels have ample space between them and you see the reason for this when you look aft and see the molding in place for a third water jet. This gives the option to install a centerline TF50 gas turbine to bring the total power up to 13,000 hp. Now you are talking real excitement, and this installation is planned for the next unit that is already under construction. Look for speeds of over 55 knots from this second yacht, speeds that are squarely situated in the Pershing performance territory.
Access to the engine compartment is via a door in the cockpit which leads first to an auxiliary room with the switchboard, watermaker and air conditioning. Forward of this are the crew’s quarters and galley. Stairs lead up from the galley directly into the saloon, close by the dining table, and there is also a dumbwaiter for larger trays. The galley is fitted with all you need for sophisticated meal preparation and the styling, even in these working areas of the yacht, is a close match to the stunning guest areas.
Back aft, the swim platform that protects the water jets is bigger than the average sportsboat. Stairs lead up on both sides to the cockpit, and between them is the garage for the Zodiac tender together with its launching crane. You don’t need to skimp on the water toys on this yacht because there is a second garage that is revealed by raising part of the forward coach roof, housing two jet skis with another launching crane.
The 115 is full of more surprises and one of them comes from opening the door on the right of the saloon entrance. Here there is a stairway winding up to a very private sun deck sitting above the pilothouse. I was trying to determine why there was no sunroof on this yacht similar to those found on other Pershings-this sun deck was the reason. There is another, more public sunpad in the cockpit together with settees and a table, but the upper area is going to be everybody’s favorite.
The sliding saloon doors make an impressive entrance and walking into the saloon takes your breath away. There is none of the rich wood panelling so often found on superyachts, but here the designers have created a beautiful and light, almost minimalistic area with only the dining chairs and the blue leather locker fronts providing color. The settees are white leather, the woodwork a very pale gray-tinted ash, and the sides and overhead a very pale cream.
Quality is enhanced by integral modern artwork above the entrance door and on two of the side window pillars. The relaxing lounge area is aft and a dining table for 10 is forward in a open plan arrangement. Forward at the helm there are three imposing adjustable seats that create what looks like an altar to high performance.
The captain sits in the center chair, which is flanked by the engine and jet controls fitted into the armrests. Here he is master of all he surveys and he really can play tunes with the sensitive machinery controls. In front of him there are seven screens that provide all the information needed for high speed navigation and control, plus sophisticated monitoring systems. The latter have been specially developed by Pershing to control and monitor everything on board except the main engines. The engines have their own MTU dedicated displays and there is a separate display for monitoring the water jet. Large Simrad radar and chart displays provide a full picture of the navigation scene.
A couple of steps down from saloon level takes you into what is virtually a private cinema. Wide lounging settees and chairs face a big flat screen that can be fed from video, DVD or cable or satellite TV. This will be a popular evening relaxing area. Another stairway takes you to the staterooms where the layout is about the only conventional thing on this yacht: a master, a VIP and two twin cabins.
These are all decorated in a similar minimalistic style but with strong colors added through the leather bed bases, the mirror trims and the bright silk bed covers. The result is both modern and restful, with the spacious master stateroom occupying the full beam and featuring an angled bed and deep side windows to give natural light. The VIP stateroom in the bow is almost semi-circular in shape and large enough to have its own settee.
The heads have the same pale gray wood and modern fittings, including hemispherical glass basins. The soles here are wood but have metal strip inserts to give good grip when wet. The extravagant quality of the master stateroom can be seen in the fitting of his-and-her heads for the use of the owners.
The interior of this yacht may be stunning but it is the exterior styling that really sets the scene. The hull has the navy blue and silver combination that was pioneered by Pershing and has since been copied by many. This color scheme complements the series of rising curves that forms the superstructure and, like so much about this design, everything looks well integrated. The practical aspects of the design have been well thought out in most areas, but you only really appreciate the true quality of this yacht out on the water at speed.
We ran the 115 from Cannes to St.Tropez, which is a well-worn path for fast motoryachts. You appreciate one of the qualities of water jet drive with the very delicate maneuvering that is possible with this big yacht. Despite her size you can inch her forward or sideways delicately close to the dock, yet she will spin like a top when you need a quick response. It takes some skill and familiarity with the controls to get to this level of control but the effort is well worthwhile.
Out at sea the response is immediate and thrilling. The thrust from the jets powers the yacht onto plane and keeps it accelerating right up to its terminal velocity. The lack of vibration is impressive, and steering control is delicate and precise when you switch from the steerable joystick controls to the wheel steering. For trim adjustment, the 115 uses the latest interceptor system rather than trim tabs and these give an immediate response that reduces the adjustment period.
On our run down to St.Tropez we had a race with the TGV high-speed train along the coast. The train won that one, but there was no doubt we were fastest on the water that day. Pershing has found just the right balance in this yacht. This design has all the style you want to impress others, both inside and out, yet this is combined with very comfortable living on board. As for performance, 40 knots will meet most requirements but if you want to outrun everything on the water then you can always invest in the gas turbine option. Then maybe, you might even beat that train.
