The yacht from the Entourage movie is in Miami

Usher is at the Epic Marina

An aerial of a superyacht

Usher, a sleek 154-square-foot superyacht that was featured during a party scene in the Entourage movie, is currently docked at the Epic Marina in downtown Miami.

The vessel sleeps 12 and features Polynesian interior styling, a sundeck jacuzzi and wet bar, underwater camera on the stern, a fishing cockpit and a beach platform with a hydraulically-operated swim ladder.

The $30 million yacht is owned by tech mogul Michael Saylor and is available for charter for $200,000 a week.

‘Entourage’ Movie Films on Yacht

154-foot Delta motoryacht Usher for charter

Vince, E, Turtle and Johnny Drama partied for the cameras in Miami this month during a shoot aboard a megayacht in Miami for the Entourage movie, which will pick up where the popular HBO television series left off.

Stars from the show gathered aboard the yacht to stage a party with bikini-clad and topless babes, much as they did on the series in their Hollywood homes. The yacht used in the shoot was the 154-foot Delta Usher , according to the Daily Mail .

Usher , formerly known as_ Mr. Terrible_, is a 2007 build that is part of the Northrop and Johnson charter fleet. Her weekly base rate is $175,000 for 12 guests. She is a standout on the charter market thanks to her eclectic interior décor, which is marketed as Polynesian chic. Other features include a sundeck hot tub and onboard elevator.

There’s no word about whether the boys or their longtime cohort, Ari Gold (played by Jeremy Piven), shot any scenes indoors, but the party scenes on deck looked like a heck of a lot of fun. We’re hoping they don’t cross over into the bacchanal that took place onboard a yacht during The Wolf of Wall Street , but, of course, aboard a boat that used to be called_ Mr. Terrible_ with the Entourage crew, anything is possible.

What It Was Like to Be on the Entourage Party Yacht

this image is not available

The opening scene of the Entourage movie called for the most beautiful people in the world to gather on a yacht off the coast of Ibiza. Last January, a yacht was afloat and beautiful people abounded, but instead of the Mediterranean hotspot, filming took place off the coast of Miami's Bill Baggs State Park in Key Biscayne. I was there, one of a horde of extras who were paid $100 to $300 per day, including 49 party girls, six "hottie" party girls, two yacht bartenders, four party guys, three older rich men, one Euro dude, two yacht crew, and three topless girls. The topless girls made $500 per day, though. One of them named Priscilla told me so.

There was glamor, and, of course, breasts. Oh, the breasts. Bikini-clad beauties were plentiful on the 154-foot luxury super-yacht for the next two days, tanned to perfection and sprayed down with oil and body makeup. The fleet captain explained that this yacht was one of five owned by billionaire software entrepreneur Michael Saylor, a notorious womanizer and serial partier. Built for a cool $52 million in 2007, it cost $225,000 a week to rent. The ship's name was Usher , not after the R&B crooner, but after one of Saylor's software products.

As a refresher, Entourage 's eight-season run on HBO ended in 2011 with Vince (Adrian Grenier) heading to Paris to marry Vanity Fair writer Sophia (Alice Eve) after a stint in rehab. Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) went from chauffeur to millionaire after investing in a tequila company, while Drama (Kevin Dillon) pretty much just continued to be Drama. Vince's manager Eric (Kevin Connolly) reconciled with on-again-off-again girlfriend Sloan (Emmanuelle Chriqui), who was pregnant with his child. Ari (Jeremy Piven) quit his job as agency head to focus on his relationship with Mrs. Ari (Perrey Reeves)... until he received a call asking if he'd like to become the chairman and CEO of Time Warner. We were left hanging as he contemplated the offer. Needless to say, the door was open for a potential movie adaptation. Four years later, here we are.

The opening scene of the Entourage movie, set to be released on June 3, is perhaps its most important, a first impression meant to set the tone of the entire film. So crucial was it to director and writer Doug Ellin that he requested an animation be made, shot for shot, of how the dramatic, party-filled yacht sequence would unfold. He showed off the animation on his phone to friends. He knew it was just what he wanted.

But there's a lot of room for contingencies between animating an elaborate scene and filming it, and almost immediately it was clear that things were not going as planned because of one culprit: the wind. It was so strong that Connolly joked about it blowing him off the ship, and later the unthinkable happened as a sudden gust flung Dillon's fedora straight from his head and into the ocean. "I got a piece of it," moped Ferrara. "That would have been a great save."

"You don't have great hands," Ellin chided Dillon.

A hat flying over a yacht is only a catastrophe when time is of the essence and the wardrobe department's backup hats are a shuttle, a golf cart, and a ferry boat ride away. The shoot cost around $250,000 to $400,000 per day and was being crammed into two days of filming. "We can throw the girls out there and tell them to pretend it's warm but we can't deal with the wind," Ellin said. "There's nothing we can do about the wind. I'd take five degrees less for no wind."

Tomorrow would be crunch time.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Ellin, who wrote and directed the film, is a Brooklyn native. He comes across as a confident bro in the body of a 47-year-old Jewish guy, although he looks closer to 37. Yes, Entourage is partially thanks to Mark Wahlberg, who is producing the film and whose life served as the inspiration behind the series' lead character, Vincent Chase, but Ellin is the creator of the franchise. He dreamed up the idea and wrote much of the show, slyly throwing in plot points taken from his own life. As with the lead character, most of the people he calls his best friends are, in fact, his friends from childhood. They're invited on set, to private dinners with celebrities, and along for nights out with beautiful women. His fiancée Maddie Diehl (who makes a cameo in the film during party scenes) has a body that could rival most Victoria's Secret models. Ellin is Entourage .

The actors had reportedly been upset that Piven had been offered more than them, and they were holding out. On one hand, Piven was the only cast member with three Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe, and there was little doubt that he turned in the series' best performance. On the other hand, each cast member was equally important to making this movie happen, and all five needed to sign on. If one said no, it was a no-go. There would be no film without the entire entourage. With the series still the biggest success for all five major players, though, it was clear that everyone wanted this movie to happen despite how unlikely it may have looked. And for that very reason, it did.

The wind had subsided and, compared to the day before, the 66-degree temperature felt more like a crip 90. A scene featuring all four main guys on the deck in the middle of a raucous yacht party was about to start shooting. There were topless models, half-naked models, and bulked-up guys in swim trunks. Waiters carried trays of scrumptious appetizers, and cocktails flowed like water, albeit with a slight Hollywood twist: The food was inedible, Stella Artois bottles were filled with SmartWater, champagne was Martinelli's sparkling apple cider, and screwdrivers were simply orange juice. Though actual alcohol was not involved, everyone onboard was relaxed and having plenty of fun.

"Whoa!" shouted Connolly to a guy beginning to unzip his shorts on the yacht's upper sun deck. "The only thing I ask is that you keep your pants zipped!"

Eyes turned upward toward the embarrassed extra. "Sorry, I'm supposed to be wearing a bathing suit," he said as he shamefully removed his shorts to uncover a flashy, revealing Speedo, one that he was clearly hoping to expose at the last moment possible.

"Oh. Sorry. I get it now," said Connolly, laughing. "I thought something else was going to be revealed."

I was told I could be an extra, so there I was, in a modest one-piece and sarong, somewhere in between the partygoers cavorting, trying to look like how I imagined Cara Delevingne would if she were there, with my arms in the air, dancing with my Stella Artois filled with water near one of the Euro-looking extras who sported a small diamond stud in one ear and a winged tattoo across his back.

During one take, I watched him strategically working his way around the party so that he was always in the frame as the cameraman circled around the movie's leading men. He had created an entire storyline for himself, pretending that one of the topless girls had walked away from him and he was going to chase after her—Method extra-ing. Eventually he bumped the cameraman and was told to stay put in one spot. So much for his big debut.

The prettiest girls were brought to the front. Paparazzi on nearby boats snapped photos from a distance while the Flight Facilities song "Crave You" played over the speakers. "I walked into the room dripping in gold/Yeah dripping in gold," Giselle's hypnotic voice sang.

"Won't people be able to see that boat in the background?" Connolly said in between takes, pointing to a boat floating nearby. Sure enough, a few minutes later crew members began to scream about how the nearby boat needed to "get to the Usher 's bow immediately! You're holding up the shot!"

Connolly could have easily been mistaken for an assistant director. He was constantly pointing out continuity issues ("Shouldn't Nina get out of the tub like she did in the other shot?"), the time between takes, and issues with the background music. "Can we please play any song but that song?" he complained when Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks" played during a party scene. While such a vocal actor might be a major faux pas on any other set, Connolly was usually right, so no one seemed to mind the extra eyes and ears.

Then there was Dillon, who much like his character on the show, seemed adorably awkward with women. He offered models in bikinis his coat during breaks and chanted "It's good to be king!" while posing with them for photos. Grenier was mostly interested in talking about the new whale documentary he was producing and how much he loved The Skins, a new band he was managing. Ferrara talked baseball with his co-stars in between takes.

The big opening helicopter scene was about to happen, but it was proving hard to make a bunch of sober Miamians pretend to look drunk and dance. "Throw your hands in the air!" screamed a crew member. "But stop looking up at the helicopter!"

Sports Illustrated and Victoria's Secret model Nina Agdal stood nearby on the boat's edge in a royal blue bikini, her hair full of glorious curled extensions, a single gold necklace dangling in front of her chest.

She was making her movie debut in the opening scene playing Brigitte, a French beauty onboard. Adriana Lima was considered for the part but was deemed "too recognizable" to have a role in which she didn't play herself. She wasn't the only one who didn't make it to the final cast list. Emily Ratajkowski ended up with a role that was originally written for Kate Upton, who apparently decided, or was advised, not to play herself. A role planned for Rihanna was rewritten for UFC Women's Champion Ronda Rousey when Rihanna didn't work out.

"I want to see someone twerk!" Agdal yelled, as a tiny woman in a leopard-print bikini fulfilled her wishes and began shaking.

The helicopter swarmed overhead as two women on jet skis crisscrossed near the stern of the yacht as a separate boat carried Ferrara, Dillon, and Connolly. Someone was yelling from the water and I looked down to see one of the two jet ski girls trying to get the attention of someone on the crew. "How much longer is this?" she pleaded, visibly shaking. "We are freezing! I'm going numb."

"Oh no!" cooed Agdal. "I wish I could switch with her. I really would."

Supermodels are known for working half-naked in frigid conditions, so I got the impression Agdal might have been serious.

"That's a wrap!" someone yelled, as the ship lit up in cheers and the helicopter flew away into the distance.

"Nobody makes movies about good times anymore unless you have a stupid comedy," said a woman named Claudette, a still photographer with a thick European accent. She was talking with a cameraman about whether there would be more Entourage films to follow. "There's an Entourage crowd," she continued. "It's all over the world believe or not, in France and England and Germany. They'll do it, one, two, three." The world needs more films like Entourage , she argued, films about good times.

"Do you guys still feel like you're on the boat? I keep swaying like I'm still on the boat," said Ferrara hours after filming had wrapped and he had joined Dillon, Connolly, Grenier, Ellin, and Agdal at Prime 112 steak house along with a few other crew members and close friends. Diners inside stared and gawked.

" Entourage is here!" they whispered.

Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia, a fan of the show, was also dining at the restaurant and came over to say hello before the crew headed to the wrap party at the new Miami nightclub E11even.

Transportation from dinner to the club came in the form of a giant party bus lined with booths and fitted with disco lights, a smoke machine, and bottle service. Grenier grabbed a harmonica and began playing along to the songs while the cast and crew danced, holding on to the sides of the bus as it made its way down the Miami streets. It was everything the yacht party was and wasn't—all the glam but with actual booze and music that didn't stop playing. It looked like a scene straight out of the show, but this time it was real. The entourage was back.

Behold “Usher,” the 154-Foot Luxurious Yacht From the Entourage Movie

  • June 5, 2015

From the creation of Delta Design Group, the 154ft custom motor yacht “Usher” is not only available to rent for $200,000 per week, but also makes an appearance in the recent Entourage movie

The star of the new movie Entourage, the mega-luxurious yacht Usher is currently available for rent by the week via  Fleet Miami.  Perfect for charter cruises in New England, New York and Florida, she is a high-performance vessel with contemporary styling. Usher’s sophisticated exterior design and engineering are the credit of Delta Design Group, with the interior designed by Juan-Carlos Espinosa.

Super yacht Usher is built entirely of composite materials and carbon fibre to ensure a lightweight yacht that is strong, durable and performs to its expectations. Her semi-displacement hull and shallow draft make it possible for her to travel with both mobility and speed and thus to reach the destinations others can not. Usher features an ultra-modern stabilization system which reduces roll motion effect and results in a smoother more enjoyable cruising experience. At anchor stabilizers can work at zero speed to increase onboard comfort at anchor and on rough waters. The fusion of outstanding performance and luxury, Usher offers a cruising speed of 20 knots, a maximum speed of 23 knots and a range of 2700nm from her 55965litre fuel tanks.

Usher’s sumptuous interiors induce a sense of leisure and relaxation. The vessel may accommodate up to 12 guests in 5 staterooms, including a master suite, 4 double cabins, 2 pullman beds. She is also capable of carrying up to 10 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Bamboo, woven woods, leather hides and textured fabrics are integrated into the interior to create the ambiance of transcendent simplicity. The comfortable furniture collections feature a heavy use of hardwoods and rattan.

Usher is so much more than just a vessel. It’s the eye candy and the hub of pleasant experience. She has a fishing cockpit on the main deck with a live bait tank and rod locker. Or, guests may prefer to witness the underwater life with Usher’s personal PADI dive instructor and six full sets of dive gear on board. Both 56′ Hampton (chase) and 20′ Novurania LX600 Custom can take the guests of the yacht anywhere they want and a unique hydraulic swim ladder will make sure you enter and exit the water with ease.

New 'Entourage' Movie Yacht Scenes Filmed on Motor Yacht USHER Last Week

blog thumbnail

The stunning 46m/154’ charter yacht ‘USHER’ was the setting for a number of scenes shot for the eagerly awaited ‘Entourage’ movie starring Adrian Grenier, which finally began filming on Thursday 16th January.

The scenes were shot in Miami on day two of filming where Grenier and his four original co-stars, Kevin Dillon (Johnny ‘Drama’), Kevin Connolly (Eric Weinstein) and Jerry Ferrara (Turtle) were surrounded by a crowd of partying models. Even though weather conditions were less than ideal for the bikini-clad models, l luxury charter yacht USHER offered the perfect surroundings for the movie, boasting stylish and spacious living areas and an array of outdoor amenities.

The eighth and final series of hit HBO ‘Entourage’, which is roughly based on the early career of executive producer Mark Wahlberg, was wrapped up in 2011 and plans for a big-budget movie have since been in the pipeline.

Speculation was rife last year about whether the movie would even go ahead with certain actors holding out for bigger salaries. All rumours were put to rest though last week with all cast members looking happy at being reunited and writer-director Doug Ellin even took to Instagram to post a picture of himself on board ‘USHER’ flanked either side by models which he captioned ‘rough first day of shoot’.

It was originally thought that supermodel Kate Upton would be cast for the female lead in the upcoming movie, but it looks as though Danish model Nina Agdal who was pictured on board the superyacht with the rest of the cast, may have landed the final role.

Although filming is clearly underway, there is no release date for the ‘Entourage’ movie as yet. The award-winning Delta built yacht  ‘USHER’ offers accommodation for up to 12 guests in five luxurious staterooms.

‘Entourage’ Trailer Sees Vince and the Boys Party on Yachts, Hit Golden Globes Red Carpet (Video)

A slew of guest stars including Jessica Alba, Ronda Rousey, Liam Neeson, Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski and Mark Wahlberg join Adrian Grenier and Jeremy Piven

The “Entourage” guys live the dream in the latest trailer for the movie version of the hit HBO show.

From walking the red carpet at the Golden Globes to partying on a yacht with beautiful blondes and doing beer bongs with super star athletes such as Rob Gronkowski, it looks to be all play and no work now the gang is back together.

“Like I told you 15 years ago, the next level is coming,” boasts Ari Gold ( Jeremy Piven ) as he hits the town with Vince (Adrian Grenier), E (Kevin Connolly), Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) and Drama (Kevin Dillon) in a hot convertible.

Ari is making his first movie as a studio head and wants Vince to star in it, but he wants to direct.

The boys proceed to blast their way through Hollywood, get into a road rage incident with UFC champion Ronda Rousey, deal with a sex tape drama — and party with yet more bikini-clad blondes.

“I gave you $100 million, you agreed not to go over,” Gold later vented.

“It’s like when a girl asks if you want to bang her hot sister, of course you say no,” said Drama in their defense of them blowing the budget. “Neither of you think you mean it.”

Other guest stars revealed in the closing credits of the trailer include Jessica Alba , Liam Neeson , Calvin Harris, Pharrell Williams, George Takei, Andrew Dice Clay, Armie Hammer, Tom Brady, T.I. and of course, Mark Wahlberg  and his original real-life entourage.

“I’m crazy!” says sidekick Henry Penzi.

Someone who  really is crazy is Turtle, who jumps in the UFC ring with Rousey and gets his ass kicked in three seconds.

“Entourage” the movie was directed Doug Ellin, who co-created the show with Wahlberg, and will be released on June 5.

‘Entourage’ Movie Trailer: Sex Tapes, Yacht Parties, Mark Wahlberg

By Ryan Reed

Yacht parties, sex tapes, bouts with UFC champion Ronda Rousey, a never-ending parade of celebrity cameos: It’s all there in the official trailer for the long-awaited Entourage movie. While a teaser clip from December gave fans a glimpse into the continued Hollywood goofiness of film star Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier) and his bumbling crew, the trailer fills in more details about the plot, which involves agent-turned-studio-head Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven) offering the lead in his first film to Vincent. The only problem? The actor also wants to direct.

Problems arise when Vince quickly blows through his $100 million budget. “If this movie tanks, Vince will not come back from this,” Ari says. Meanwhile, the actor-director’s longtime crew of misfits – Johnny Drama (Kevin Dillon), Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) and E (Kevin Connolly) – only aid in turning the project into a disaster.

The trailer ends with a tease of A-list cameos, including Pharrell Williams, T.I., Mark Wahlberg , Tom Brady, Jessica Alba, Liam Neeson, David Spade, Kelsey Grammar and Andrew Dice Clay. The main cast also features Billy Bob Thornton and Haley Joel Osment, along with several actors from the original HBO series, including Perrey Reeves (as Ari’s wife, Melissa), Emmanuelle Chriqui (as Sloan), Rhys Coiro (Billy Walsh) and Debi Mazar (Vince’s publicist, Shauna).

Rumors  of an Entourage film began circulating after the show finished its eight-season run in 2011. The project got the green light  from Warner Bros. in January 2013, but negotiations  weren’t finalized until October . Series creator Doug Ellin wrote and directed the film, which hits theaters on June 5th.

Tech Mogul Michael Saylor, Owner of Entourage Party Yacht, Starts Fractional Superyacht Ownership Program

Back in January we reported that the cast of the upcoming Entourage movie was filming some wild party scenes with topless models in Miami aboard the impressive $30 million  Usher superyacht. Now the vessel’s owner, tech billionaire Michael Saylor, is using the luxury yacht as the crown jewel in a new company called Fleet Miami that he’s positioning as, according to a post on his Facebook timeline as reported by  Pursuitist , “NetJets for yachts, albeit more exclusive and less ambitious." Saylor intends to sell memberships starting at $250,000 per year, which will give cardholders access to the 154-foot  Usher, as well as Saylor’s other yachts — including the 147-foot Feadship Harle , the 87-foot Warren Yacht Moksha , and the 36-foot cruiser Julia .

“Michael Saylor saw a big need to simplify not only the ownership of yachts but also the need to streamline the charter process,” Captain Glen Allen, fleet captain of Fleet Miami, tells The Superyacht Owner . “Mr. Saylor hates inefficiency. He looked at how when we added a second and then third yacht to his stable, the crew became much more efficient. He saw that with multiple yachts we could utilise the crew much more efficiently. But then the inventory of available days of use grew and he was not able to fill those days — he felt we needed a system to take advantage of that.”

Can’t afford a full membership? Saylor is also selling seven-day charters through the Florida Keys for $70,000 to $280,000, depending on which yacht you choose. Usher , which had been available for charter at $225,000 per week, is a high performance motor yacht built by the renowned Delta Marine shipyard in 2007. It features one of the most distinctive interiors of any vessel, with a tropical-themed design scheme that includes custom glasswork, bamboo, leather and rich exotic woods (like Wenge, Bubinga and Koa). Perfect for partying, it features a hot tub, wet bar and two onboard margarita machines. Saylor, once the richest person in Washington, D.C., lost an estimated six billion in a single day during the tech bubble in 2000, but has since recovered a fair amount of his fortune.

8 days for the price of 7 when you charter Entourage yacht Usher

If you book a summer Bahamas charter on 46.94 meter luxury yacht  Usher , used in the movie Entourage , you can get an extra night for free. That's thanks to a special offer when you charter through Northop & Johnson giving charterers eight nights for the price of seven.

Built by  Delta Marine  in 2007 and having undergone an extensive refit in June 2014 the luxury yacht _Usher _is featured in the new  Entourage  film, which was released in the United States earlier this year (3 June).

The film sees the original characters from the HBO series — Vincent, Chase, Eric, Turtle and Johnny — reunited on the big screen. The film is based around them working with super agent-turned-studio head Ari Gold on a risky project that is also Vince's directorial debut. A selection of scenes are shot on Usher , which is filled with a selection of supermodels.

Usher’s refit in 2014 included a full paint job, the addition of Savant Sound a/v equipment, which can be controlled by the vessel’s mini iPads, new flat screen and new televisions throughout the vessel. The yacht accommodates up to 12 guests in a master suite and four cabins.

Twin 3650hp MTU engines give her a top speed of 22 knots, a cruising speed of 18 knots and a range of 2,700 nautical miles at 14 knots.

Features include a two-person elevator accessing three decks, an underwater camera installed under the transom capturing deep-sea curiosities in real-time, an on-deck Jacuzzi and zero speed stabilisers.

Usher  is available through Northop & Johnson with rates starting from $175,000 per week.

Michael Saylor’s yacht gets ‘Entourage’ movie cameo

entourage movie yacht

Homegrown mogul/playboy Michael Saylor lives like the characters of “Entourage” — well, at least enough to make his Miami-based yacht the backdrop for parts of the movie version of the HBO show.

Last week, the cast, including Adrian Grenier and Kevin Dillon, shot some scenes aboard a posh boat called Usher.  And what scenes they were: topless women (among them, Sports Illustrated supermodel Nina Agdal) and flutes of bubbly, according to Celebuzz — you know, just an average day on the high seas for the “Entourage” guys.

Turns out, Usher is the new name of the behemoth craft Saylor bought last year, a 154-footer formerly called “Mr. Terrible.” Usher can accommodate 10 guests in 5 suites and boasts amenities like exotic carved woodwork, multiple bars, and an “opulent hand hammered copper soaking tub,” according to its rental listing.

The founder of Tysons Corner-based tech company MicroStrategy said when he purchased the floating party pad last year (asking price was $31.5 million) that he planned to change the name. And the new moniker wasn’t inspired by the R&B star of the same name. Instead, it was apparently named after one of the crown jewels in Saylor’s enterprise: “Usher is a mobile identity platform that delivers biometric-caliber security to every application and business process across the enterprise,” the company’s  website  reads. Um, OK.

Tom Heyer, the agent from Fleet Miami, which represents Usher, wouldn’t say how much the movie company paid to rent the yacht, but said the weekly published rate is $200,000 a week.

Film Review: ‘Entourage’

The HBO series' 'breast' and worst qualities are on full display in what plays like an average but feature-length episode.

Entourage Movie

The biggest stumbling block faced by TV series-turned-films is a tendency to go too big, taking characters that were appealing in small doses and overextending their allure. For Doug Ellin ’s cineplex expansion of his HBO series “ Entourage ,” the writer-director finds a novel solution: Simply offer up an average episode, and inflate it to feature length with twice as many boobs and celebrity cameos as usual, to the point that the film might as well be called “Boobs and Famous People: The Movie.” Granted, “Entourage” was never exactly scared of boobs or gratuitous famous people when it was on TV, and the rest of the series’ strengths and weaknesses survive the theatrical transition intact. Sometimes funny, often dumb, with equal doses of inside-baseball references and broad bro-ish boorishness, “Entourage” will be loved by fans and despised by detractors, possibly for the same reasons. The returning cast members are clearly having fun, however, and their ability to evoke vicarious mid-2000s decadence will surely draw crowds.

The film opens on a stunning ocean vista, with superstar Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier) mourning the dissolution of his nine-day marriage by lounging on a massive yacht off the coast of Ibiza with a flock of topless models. He’s propositioned by one of them, but has to ask her to sit tight for a few hours so he can meet up with his boys, who are arriving on a speedboat with beers in hand. These boys, of course, are his childhood buddies from Queens: best friend-turned-manager Eric (Kevin Connolly), driver-turned-tequila magnate Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) and ne’er-do-well older brother-turned … well, ne’er-do-well older brother Johnny “Drama” Chase (Kevin Dillon).

Popular on Variety

In any other film, an opening scene like this would be followed by either a DEA bust or the hapless protagonist waking up from a dream, but this is “Entourage,” where everything is exactly as it seems. The sequence actually does a pretty good job of proscribing the film’s central concerns — conspicuous consumption, camaraderie verging on co-dependency, low-stakes conflict and a guiding principle of bros before boobs — so much so that the Piers Morgan-narrated catch-up montage that follows is totally unnecessary.

But Vincent has more on his mind than just boobs. He’s convinced his onetime agent Ari Gold ( Jeremy Piven ), now the head of an entire studio, to let him try his hand directing a $100 million movie, “Hyde.” (Evidently featuring Chase as a superhuman dubstep DJ who fights government oppression alongside Calvin Harris, it looks pretty bad, even for a Vincent Chase film.) He’s gone over budget, which means Ari has to schlep to Texas to wheedle more funds out of Larsen McCredle (Billy Bob Thornton), the grumpy oligarch who’s underwriting the studio’s slate. Before he’ll sign a check, however, Larsen dispatches his vulgar, louche son Travis (Haley Joel Osment, enjoying himself as much as anyone) to L.A. to check out the rough cut, and he threatens to ruin the film with his inane notes and editing demands.

As on the show, this central conflict fades in and out of view as each character deals with their own particular mini-crisis. Eric is awaiting the birth of his first child with ex-girlfriend Sloan (Emmanuelle Chriqui), but has a much tougher time dealing with the logistical complications of sleeping with every swimsuit model he sees. Vincent pursues a relationship with model Emily Ratajkowski, and Turtle makes overtures to UFC fighter Ronda Rousey. (Compared with the sexual politics on display elsewhere, pairing one of the boys with a woman who could literally kill him with her index finger has to count as progressive.) Drama stresses over auditions and worries that his role in “Hyde” will be cut, while Ari has to deal with studio politics, the unwelcome Texan collaborator, and couples therapy sessions with his long-suffering wife (Perrey Reeves).

These strands offer wildly varying returns. Ari’s scenes are very funny, and Drama’s travails are pretty funny. (Dillon and Piven both display some thoroughly sharp comic timing, taking what could easily be one-joke characters and building them into three- or four-joke characters.) Turtle and Vinnie’s subplots are just sort of there , while Eric’s subplot is so mind-meltingly dull that it stops the film in its tracks. Fortunately, no dilemma is allowed to linger for too long before the boys reconvene for quick banter and parties with dancing girls, in case anyone in the audience has forgotten what boobs look like.

At no point does anyone involved with the film ever take this too seriously, and as long as one takes it in the same spirit, it’s perfectly enjoyable. Writer-director Ellin has clearly put every penny of his production budget up onscreen, and each well-photographed frame is suffused with shiny consumer goods and bright colors. Of the 42 different famous people officially credited as playing themselves, most simply wave at the camera, though rapper T.I. gets the biggest laugh, business tycoon Warren Buffett is the most unexpected presence, and executive producer Mark Wahlberg manages to plug both the “Ted” sequel and his reality show “Wahlburgers” in his minute-long cameo, which is pretty shameless even by “Entourage” standards.

As the pic winds down, however, one starts to gain some respect for the purity of its overwhelming self-regard. Hollywood has always displayed a puppy-dog eagerness to celebrate itself, but that celebration is usually gussied up with odes to the transformative power of movies, or portraits of Tinseltown as the great repository of dreamers and artists. “Entourage” simply celebrates the awesomeness of the lives/fantasy lives of the very people making the movie, which is kind of refreshing in its honesty. In the film, the only real threat to this world of easy opulence, flashy cars, award shows, top-shelf booze and boobs is the flyover-country interloper, whose rubbish tastes and rustic ways the power brokers sneer at, while always aware that they’re totally dependent on his money in the end. Perhaps there’s a smarter-than-expected subtext here.

Entourage movie review: possibly the most harmless film of all time

Oh yeah oh, yeah..

  • By Emily Yoshida
  • on June 2, 2015 12:00 pm

entourage movie yacht

"I might need to jerk it before we even get to the boat."

This is the first line, spoken by Johnny "Drama" Chase (Kevin Dillon), in the motion picture Entourage . The film is a continuation of the television show of the same name, which ran for eight more or less culturally uncontested seasons on HBO. It's been over three years since Vince and the boys rode their twin private jets into the sunset, and almost five since series creator Doug Ellin initially floated the idea of a movie. In the interim, a lot has changed: TV has become fertile ground for stories about complex female characters, everyone got really into a show about dragons, and Broad City exists. The world and moment that Entourage encapsulated seems woefully outdated.

Except not, because Entourage exists outside the reaches of time, space, and logic, and if you told me it never actually ended and I've actually been mumbling "Oh yay -yuh! Oh yay -yuh!" along with the Jane's Addiction theme song for the past three years, I might believe you.

Before we go any further, I must admit a bias — not that I'm an Entourage superfan; I was never a terribly faithful viewer of the show, and I definitely have not seen every episode, especially in the later, increasingly rote seasons. But I have spent the last 48-plus hours locked in an entirely voluntary marathon of the first two seasons, and they have pervaded my headspace to such a degree that I felt almost personally affronted when the entire theater at the press screening I attended did not burst out in riotous applause at the first aerial shot of the boys cruising in a motorboat off the coast of Ibiza. After the past several days stewing in the bro-verse, this felt like a towering cinematic moment on the order of the Star Wars title zooming back into the stars to John Williams fanfare. Like I said, I came in with a bias.

Everything will work out fine

To submit yourself to the world of Entourage is to surrender any expectation of so much of what we associate with satisfying television: tension, stakes, darkness. The first two seasons feel like a hallucination: we are presented with this entitled, variously simpleminded group of men, the leader of which lives by the shockingly durable philosophy that "everything will work out fine." We are trained, by centuries of storytelling tradition, to take that as an omen. Oh, that's what someone says right before he walks into a manhole , we think. Part of Entourage 's crazy-making charm is that the manhole never materializes. Sure, there are hitches and bumps along the way — fudged deals, a cocaine addiction — but Vincent Chase never gets a lasting comeuppance for all his boorish ways.

And that's what makes 10 episodes — and yes, a feature-length film — melt by in what seems like a half-hour, give or take. I never checked my clock during the entirety of the Entourage movie — I thought about it, but then preferred to marvel at the fact that I could not tell if 20 minutes or two hours had gone by. From a formally critical standpoint, I think that might be a good thing.

The plot of Entourage concerns what so many plots of Entourage have concerned: the making of a film. We catch up with the dudes mere weeks after the events of the finale; Vince's marriage to a hot  Vanity Fair writer lasted all of five days, and he's back on the market, hosting a yacht party full of the requisite topless babes. He also has decided that he wants to direct a film, and because he is Vincent Chase, he will indeed direct a film.

Entourage , god bless it, has always been incredibly smart about what it chooses to yadda-yadda. We immediately flash forward eight months — Vince's directorial debut Hyde is in the can, and is being shepherded by superagent-turned-studio head Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven; what, you didn't really think Ari was out of the game, did you?). His former driver Sal "Turtle" Assante (Jerry Ferrara) is now a multimillionaire with a successful tequila business, and his manager / best dude Eric "E" Murphy (Kevin Connolly) is expecting the birth of his son with OTP babymama Sloane any day. I have to say, you don't miss those eight months. Entourage has never been about the joys and struggles of making the films that its characters rely on for cash flow. It's always been about the joys and sorrows — okay, mostly joys — of the cash flow.

Entourage has always been smart about what it chooses to yadda-yadda

I now realize I need to back up for a second and talk about Hyde . Oh lordy, Hyde. We see what amounts to a trailer-length montage of Vince's passion project, and goddammit, I wish that the movie had just cut out and the ushers had escorted us to the theatre next door to watch the whole thing. Hyde, as it may surprise some LA lifers to know, is not a filmic adaptation of the notorious celeb hangout that  enjoyed its heyday about the same time Entourage enjoyed its. Hyde takes place in a dystopic future Los Angeles, where Vince plays some kind of underworld DJ who feeds people floating golden molly-pellets while they rave under a bridge. (Wait ... maybe it is an adaptation?) Vince wears a hoodie and broods a lot. It's basically the music video for Britney Spears' Til The World Ends , except we are told its running time is two hours.

Entourage

Photo by Claudette Barius © 2014 Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.

Everyone, from Ari to Dana Gordon (Constance Zimmer's lovely, witty saving grace of Entourage 's willful woman problem) agree that Hyde is a masterpiece. This we accept. Everyone, that is, except Travis McCreadle (Haley Joel Osment), son of oil tycoon Larsen McCreadle (Billy Bob Thornton), whose approval and checkbook stand in the way of Hyde getting locked. Yes, Haley Joel Osment and Billy Bob Thornton are in the Entourage movie. This we accept. They are not playing themselves, like so many of the film's never-ending cascade of gag cameos (there are too many to list here, just watch the trailer), they are playing Texas oil tycoons. This we accept.

The reason behind Haley Joel Osment's hesitance — really, the only significant obstacle to the boys' happiness, which is incredible, when you think about it — is so stupid and inconsequential that you probably wouldn't believe me if I spoiled it. Needless to say, everything works out in the end for all the boys, even for the perpetually beleaguered Johnny Drama, who, in addition to setting the tone in the aforementioned opening moments of the film, is the star of its last, completely unearned, but nonetheless satisfying moment of triumph. The film ends with nary a beat of real doubt or uncertainty as to the fate of our heroes. The experience of watching it is like being nudged out of a coma for an hour and a half, then gently coaxed back into it.

like being nudged out of a coma, then gently coaxed back into it

You might be waiting for the angry feminist lambasting of this film and the show that preceded it, the caveman-like approach to gender and sexuality that have been baked into its brand since the pilot. I'm sorry to disappoint, but you won't find it here. There is a certain class of clueless bro-dom so insistent that it renders itself benign; it comes with its own argument for its ridiculousness. I am aware that there are many fans of Entourage who unironically delight in its hedonistic spoils of patriarchy, but one of the only real tensions of the show all these years has been trying to decipher its degree of self-awareness. In many ways it is a farce, but to characterize it purely as a send-up of the misogyny of Hollywood would probably be giving Ellin and executive producer Mark Wahlberg too much credit. Entourage likes the world it has created for itself, but it is by no means trying to spread a gospel of tits and 'raris and multimillion dollar contracts, in the way that, say, True Detective really needs you to believe that " we get the world we deserve ."  Entourage is happy to splash around in its own fetid Cristal-filled kiddy pool and leave it at that.

Of course, nothing can truly exist in a bubble, and while  Entourage is itself an inert object, the culture it's a reflection of is not. But I choose to accept this with nihilistic optimism: there's a shortage of odes to male dominance that are genuinely unthreatening enough for non-male viewers to laugh off, in the way so many viewers feel comfortable writing off 21 Dresses or The Other Woman . We're always asked to take silly, fun boy stories seriously on some level, whether as important, "smart-dumb" personality-driven comedy (i.e. any Apatow-verse film) or just really well-constructed entertainment products (i.e. the Fast and Furious movies, which if you think are stupid, means you are objectively no fun). There are so many "women be crazy" films out there, and not nearly enough "white dudes' entitlement be hella pervasive and damaging" films. Entourage oddly fills an important, mostly vacant spot in contemporary storytelling with its own vacancy. If you should ever need to have a good laugh at the expense of the patriarchy, it's waiting for you.

Entourage Turns 20! Here's Where the Cast Is Now Two Decades After the Premiere

HBO’s hit series about the highs and lows of Hollywood life catapulted its cast to fame 20 years ago

entourage movie yacht

Pictorial Press Ltd / Alamy

When HBO premiered Entourage in July 2004, it quickly became a cultural phenomenon as viewers became enamored with emerging A-lister Vincent Chase ( Adrian Grenier ) and his group of childhood friends.

Created by Doug Ellin and loosely based on Mark Wahlberg ’s early experiences in the entertainment industry, the series ran for eight seasons from 2004 to 2011 and even had a feature film in 2015. During its run, Entourage amassed numerous awards, including 14 Golden Globe nominations and 26 Emmy nominations (with six wins).

Starring Grenier as Vince, the series also featured actors Kevin Connolly , Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara and Jeremy Piven , who played Vince’s inner circle of friends and management team.

In the years since Entourage wrapped up, the cast members have pursued various ventures and expanded their families — from new roles to their lives offscreen, here’s where the stars of Entourage are now.

While Grenier had appeared in a few independent films prior to his lead on Entourage , his portrayal of Vince, a charming actor from Queens who quickly rises to Hollywood stardom, became his breakout role. The actor also starred in The Devil Wears Prada alongside Anne Hathaway in 2006, catapulting his success further.

After Entourage , Grenier starred in films such as Trash Fire and Marauders. In 2021, he starred in the Netflix thriller series Clickbait .

Grenier has spent much of his post- Entourage time as an environmental activist. Most notably, the actor launched SHFT in 2010, a lifestyle brand that uses film, art and culture to drive change through eco-friendly practices and brings more stories of sustainability into mainstream culture.

He also became a designated UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador in June 2017, advocating for reducing single-use plastics, protecting marine species and promoting conscious consumer choices.

Grenier married long-time girlfriend Jordan Roemmele in June 2022 in a spontaneous, romantic ceremony while on vacation in Morocco. A year later, they welcomed their first child , Seiko.

She’s more than almost famous.

“Bride Wars” star Kate Hudson performed a concert at Surf Lodge in Montauk last weekend in front of famous friends including Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Falchuk, Jane Krakowski and architect David Rockwell, and “Entourage” star Jeremy Piven.

“Gwyneth walked in and threw her hands up in the air for Kate,” says a spy. “She was swaying back and forth during the whole show sitting on a banquette with Brad.”

Hudson performed some original tunes from her new album, “Glorious,” and covered classics like the Rolling Stones’ “Beast of Burden” and Til Tuesday’s ’80s hit, “Voices Carry.”

Hudson’s fiance, musician and Lightwave Records founder Danny Fujikawa, was looking on adoringly from the side of the stage.

News of Donald Trump being shot at a Pennsylvania rally rippled through the crowd at one point, with people checking their phones for updates on Saturday evening.
