Princess Yachts South East Asia Debuts Y95 in Singapore

Princess Yachts South East Asia makes Asia debut with exclusive welcome party in Singapore for the all-new Princess Y95.

The all-new Princess Y95 flagship yacht made its debut in Asia on 28 October 2023 with a lavish invitation-only event in Singapore under the stewardship of Princess Yachts Southeast Asia.

The exclusive launch was held at the heart of Singapore’s yachting lifestyle,  ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove .

Organised by Boat Lagoon Yachting , sole distributor for Princess Yachts in South East Asia, guests at the event were treated to an entertainment programme along with the preview as the first group in Asia to have the opportunity to inspect this luxury 95ft craft.

One of the largest ever gatherings of Princess yacht owners and members of the extended Princess Yachts family boarded the Princess Y95 at the marina to celebrate its arrival in the region with premium food and beverages, and a tour of the luxurious onboard facilities.

“We are very confident in the South East Asia market for luxury yachts in the 95ft category, as we have seen particularly high movement recently at the upper end of the market,” says Vrit Yongsakul, managing director of Boat Lagoon Yachting (top at left) . “Over only the past two years, we have arranged the sale of five 95ft Princess yachts. Two of these were the X95 model. The other three are the Y95, purchased even before this model has arrived in our region. This is why we feel that the Princess Y95 is so important here at this time, and we really are thrilled to be introducing it in Singapore.” 

Of the three Y95 models sold, one made her show debut at an international boat show when Boat Lagoon Yachting displayed the craft at the Princess Yachts berth in the Cannes Yachting Festival 2023 in September. The second unit is the one making its regional debut in Singapore. And, another recently sold will be arriving in the region by 2025. 

“The Y Class is the most popular class in Southeast Asia,” says Yongsakul. “We have sold nine units of the Y85, and now three units of the Y95. This adds up to the most sales numbers for any one class of yacht in the region.”

He says the Y95 is the perfect fit for superyachts in Southeast Asia. “Luxury yachts and the Singaporean lifestyle can be a perfect combination for those seeking an extravagant and culturally rich experience. Singapore is considered as the financial hub for the yachting business. Moreover, owners have idyllic sailing waters here. They can explore the islands, setting sail for destinations like Lazarus Island, Kuzu Island, Pulau Seringat, and Pulau Semakau. These islands offer pristine beaches, clear waters, and excellent opportunities for snorkelling and water sports. Or, with a large capacity yacht like this, they can easily cruise up to the beautiful Andaman Sea coast off Thailand, and other destinations where the yachting conditions are perfect. such as Phuket or Phang Nga Bay.” 

Thailand and Singapore, the two main bases for Boat Lagoon Yachting, show a differing profile amongst users. “Singapore tends towards more of a commercialised lifestyle zone, while the beauty of Thailand’s islands and beaches, so easily reached out of Phuket, attracts families and groups, along with the corporate sector,” says Yongsakul.

With innovative use of interior and exterior space akin to the Princess M Class and inspired by the Princess X95, which had made its debut earlier, the flagship of the Y Class range, the all-new Y95, has been crafted with an emphasis on performance and inspired styling, introducing brand new concepts and premium design quality. 

With a spacious garage and transformer bathing platform and the option of a beach club, maximum enjoyment of time on the water is assured. Designed in collaboration with Olesinski and Italian design house Pininfarina, her exterior design language has been defined with elegant profile lines and the longest hull windows ever installed on a Princess yacht, whilst her spacious indoor and outdoor living spaces are comparable to those of larger craft.

The hull form is a new design allowing her to effortlessly glide through the waves no matter the weather, and with her twin MAN V12-2000 engines carrying 2000 horsepower she will provide impeccable sea-keeping reaching speeds up to 24 knots.

Princess Y95: Queen of the Y Class

Boat Lagoon Yachting has secured at least three orders for the Princess Y95

When Boat Lagoon Yachting staged the Asia premiere of the Princess Y95 at Singapore’s ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove, it was highlighting only the start of the superyacht’s story in Southeast Asia. Another hull was delivered to Phuket in time to be the star of this year’s Thailand International Boat Show.

And there’s more to come, with Boat Lagoon Yachting also confirming a third order for a Y95, which will add to the 400-plus Princess yachts it has sold in Southeast Asia since the dealership was founded in 1994. In fact, some of the region’s growing family of Princess yacht owners were among the first to see the Y95 in local waters at its Asia premiere.

“The three Princess Y95s were purchased even before the model debuted in our region, which is why we were really thrilled to introduce it in Singapore,” says Vrit Yongsakul, Boat Lagoon Yachting’s founder and Group Managing Director “We’re very confident in the Southeast Asia market for luxury yachts in the 95ft category, as we’ve seen particularly high movement at the upper end of the market.”

Vrit’s confidence is well founded. The three Y95 orders followed the dealer’s two sales of the X95, the yacht that pioneered a new generation for Princess as the British builder shelved its M Class of superyachts (30M, 35M, 40M) to make way at its South Yard in Plymouth for production of the two new 95 sister models.

Both the Y95 and X95 share the same hull and the same lower-deck layout. On both, the interior of the main deck almost reaches the bow and contributes to the models’ extra-long flybridge or ‘superfly’.

While the X95 is notable for its enclosed skylounge fronted by a reverse windscreen, the Y95 has an open flybridge and a raised pilothouse with a traditionally raked windscreen. However, the flowing, forward-raked lines of the hard-top superstructure tip their hat to the aggressive styling of the X95, one of the shipyard’s first collaborations with Pininfarina.

The Italian styling studio continues to be part of the shipyard’s ‘triangle’ of design collaborators along with the Princess Design Studio and Olesinski, the builder’s long-time naval architecture partner based in Cowes. Pininfarina’s work is particularly evident on the Y95’s hull lines, which provide a flowing side profile and frame the largest hull windows ever installed in a Princess yacht.

OUTDOOR FUN

The Y95 starts aft with a conventional-looking swim platform, but it’s home to an enormous, 1,000kg-capacity transformer platform that can be used to deploy a 5m-plus tender and toys, or provide a wide stairway to the water or dock.

The transom can be either a garage or, as in the case of the Singapore hull, a covered beach club containing an angular sofa and a table facing a wet bar topped by a fitted TV.

External stairways lead to the large aft cockpit, which can also be accessed by a remote-controlled 5m-long, telescopic passarelle. The cockpit is fitted with a wide, forward-facing C-shaped sofa and offers owners the choice of a large teak dining table or a coffee table and loose chairs. Other options include two styles of wet bar in the forward port corner.

Stairs to port lead to the flybridge, which is among the yacht’s most impressive areas. The yacht in Singapore features a central jacuzzi by the stairs and there’s still plenty of space aft for chairs, sunbeds or even a tender if an owner wants to include a crane integrated into the flybridge superstructure.

The area covered by the hard top is dominated by a dining table with room for 10 chairs, although another option for the starboard side is a fixed C-shaped sofa and a foldable table. To port is an elegantly designed wet bar featuring a sink, hob, electric barbecue and drawer refrigerator, while guests can park themselves on a couple of bar stools.

Forward is a raised twin-seat, three-screen helm station to starboard that’s flanked to port by L shaped companion seating, a cosy area neighboured by doorways to two other zones.

Aft of the companion seating is a low door to a side passage that leads to the foredeck, which has integrated sunpads in front of the pilot house and a couple of steps down to a wide, sunken sofa that offers nice views over the bulwarks but otherwise feels part of the crew’s working area.

Meanwhile, a sliding companionway door by the upper helm leads down to the impressive main pilot house, where a central captain’s chair faces a five-screen console and is flanked by a chart table to starboard and a portside L-shaped sofa fitted with a sliding table. Starboard stairs lead down to the guest lobby on the main deck.

INTERIOR COMFORT

Typically, though, guests will enter the interior from the aft cockpit. Immediately notable for large windows and typically exquisite Princess joinery in oak, with walnut as an option, the large lounge can be laid out with a large L-shaped or C-shaped sofa to port and either a facing sofa or long cabinet to starboard. Entertainment is provided by a retractable 65in 4K UHD LED TV and a Naim audio system.

Forward is a large, oblong table offering dining for 10. Princess also offers this area with an L-shaped bar by the port door to the galley and a round dining table to starboard, where the hallway leads forward to the lower-deck stairs, day head and the full-beam owner’s suite.

Making the most of a widebody design in the forward third of the yacht, the master starts with an entrance flanked by two hanging cupboards before a long, curved sofa and a coffee table, although the starboard side can otherwise include a couple of loose chairs or built-in furniture.

Each side of the bedroom has a massive one-piece window, with the port side offering a nice view from a vanity desk integrated into a long cabinet with drawers.

The bed is placed centrally and faces forward to a TV on a bulkhead flanked by two doors; portside to a walk-in dressing room and starboard to a twin-sink bathroom with a shower and an enclosed toilet. All guest bathroom floors are offered in marble, granite or quartz.

The four guest cabins on the lower deck are led by an impressive full-beam VIP midships, where the bedroom area is much like the master suite except the integrated cabinet is to starboard and the furniture options are to port. Both the twin-sink bathroom and walk-in wardrobe are similar to those in the master but are located aft, offering a buffer between the bed and engine room.

Forward on either side of the lobby are mirror guest cabins, each with a hanging cupboard and en-suite bathroom forward. The bow cabin has an aft-facing bed and, compared to the two identical guest cabins, a larger bathroom and more storage space, plus a vanity table.

Meanwhile, the spacious crew area is just forward of the beach club and includes an en-suite captain’s cabin, bunk cabin and a shared bathroom.

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES

The Y95 is an ideal yacht for long cruises around Southeast Asia and Boat Lagoon Yachting is ideally placed to support journeys between Singapore and Phuket, where the dealer has its head office and international-standard service facilities at Phuket Boat Lagoon.

It’s a trip the yacht can comfortably cover without refuelling, as her twin 2,000mhp Man V12 engines and well over 13,000 litres of fuel give her a range of about 1,000nm at an economical cruising speed, although she can reach 22-24 knots if needed.

“Owners have idyllic sailing waters in Singapore, but with a large-capacity yacht like the Y95, they can easily cruise up to the beautiful Andaman Sea coast off Thailand and other destinations such as Phuket or Phang Nga Bay where the yachting conditions are perfect,” Vrit says.

The first Y95 in Southeast Asia is a big, beautiful and powerful Princess, yet she’s just the start of a story with at least another two chapters.

SINGAPORE RENDEZVOUS Interview: Vrit Yongsakul, Princess Yachts

Join us as we speak with Vrit Yongsakul, the Group Managing Director of Princess Yachts before the SINGAPORE RENDEZVOUS.

Just two more days until the start of the SINGAPORE RENDEZVOUS and we are doing our best to share as much as we can on what is in store and the partners who will be in town. Today, we bring you an interview with Vrit Yongsakul, Group Managing Director of Princess Yachts who talks to us about the yachting industry in Asia and what is in store for the brand.  

What attracted you to Princess Yachts in particular and, in general, to the world of yachting?

Probably a mix of uncompromising quality of the yacht, its timeless design, the integrity and professionalism of the people with whom we have worked with over the past 22 years. Yachting can both be a great family hobby as much as for entertaining and enjoying the level of privacy or excitement it may bring.

How is the yachting market currently different in Asia than say Europe or the US?

Unlike in Europe or the US, where the market is more developed, yachting is a new market and a new lifestyle concept here in Asia. It is a great market with a large pool of wealthy people that can afford yachts, but we need to educate buyers on yachting/boating so that they can understand the lifestyle. There is a learning curve here but Asia is really growing. When I speak to the guys at the Princess factory in the UK, they tell me that Southeast Asia (including Greater China) is getting closer and closer in terms of annual sales.

From a customer perspective, I am seeing a lot more interest in boating within Southeast Asian waters, and the popularity of cruising in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand is really confidence-inspiring. As a destination, we now need to start working even more effectively to establish strong relationships between countries within Asia to open up cruising grounds and further establish the right infrastructure here.

As we have learned from experience, just because people have money it doesn’t mean they want to spend it on your particular product, because they are not interested in yachts. How do you build the interest in the boating lifestyle in regions where there isn’t a culture of leisure boating in place?

We take them out on sunset cruises or a full-day charter where they can experience and enjoy the beautiful scenery in Phuket. Our clients are mostly busy people, it gives them the opportunity to switch off, enjoy some family and ‘me’ time and soon, they will be addicted to short cruises and see boating as a form of escapism.

Princess Yachts has a large range of boats. What’s the particular strength or definitive characteristic of Princess Yachts, if you had to pick just one?

The strength of the Princess brand rests on pillars such as quality, strength and integrity of design and build which results in timeless elegance, impeccable and luxurious interiors and immaculate finish. Princess Yachts have been building some of the world’s finest luxury motor yachts for more than 40 years. Our yachts keep their allure and value for many years and therefore are very strong contenders at the used yacht market and hold a reputation of unsurpassed sea-keeping.

We are told that there are amazing customization options at Princess Yachts, from the LVMH stable of brands and beyond. How important is customisation to your business and what are some of the most interesting or unique customisations that you’ve seen so far?

We have had some really amazing requests, some of which we have managed to achieve and some that were better left to one side… for now! With Princess being owned by L-Catterton, we are indeed able to work very closely with brands such as Fendi and LV, however, we have also worked with wonderful brands outside of the group, such as Hermes, as a specific request from a customer. Each and every Princess is different… beautiful and unique and that is increasingly becoming a main factor in our sales dialogue with clients.

Who is a Princess Yacht owner?

It can be just about anyone, but what we have noticed is that a typical Princess customer is truly trans-global; they know what they want, and really understand that the real beauty is in the details. They have high expectations of quality and a strong appreciation of incredible design language.

Where would you say is the best location for yachting in Thailand?

100% Phuket. Phuket is a Mecca for boating for Asia, like the Mediterranean is for Europe.

Which recent innovations in yachting strike you? How do you bridge between heritage & modernity? Project 31 etc.

There is a real movement back to grass roots boating with open boats, such as our V58-Open, and it seems that fun on the sea is the priority. Everybody is into toys currently, such as Seabobs, and the modern creature comforts are all required, but now, with ease and at the touch of one button. Our heritage is very important, and what better way to celebrate the fact that Princess has made over 17,000 yachts over the past 50 years than bringing back to life the original boat, but re-designing the interior to be in line with a modern day Princess!

Can you tell me more about your latest model?

We have launched six new models in the past six months. We have a new 35M and 30M in our M class range, a new V58, a new S65 – which now defines a totally new segment in yachting where performance meets style, and we have also added two all-new flybridge products with a 75 Motor Yacht and a Princess 49.

What services do you offer clients in the region?

Our services include new yacht sales, pre-loved yachts, yacht charter, yacht management and the best after sales service you will find in Southeast Asia since 1995. Princess Yachts has one of the longest established and most extensive after sales and service support organizations in the region that ensures all Princess owners unparalleled enjoyment of their yachts. Our sole mission is to provide the best possible maritime turnkey experience, from the moment one starts thinking about purchasing or hiring a Princess Yacht and every day after that.

Princess Yachts will be one of the exhibitors at the SINGAPORE RENDEZVOUS, which is right around the corner. What part of the concept did you find attractive that made you want to take part in it?

It seems the event has a focus on lifestyle which is one of the key aspects of our boat ownership experience which we offer, where we have also held regular Princess Yachts Rendezvous in the various locations that we operate out of within Southeast Asia. It seems our values are also shared by that of the show, in that we specialise in quality new and pre-owned yachts, and are always keen to explore new ground and opportunities!

What do you hope to achieve there as an exhibitor?

As one of the largest yacht companies in Asia, we are thrilled to be a part of the Singapore Rendezvous as it will allow us to introduce the lifestyle of yachting/boating to a diverse type of crowd, at the same time, allow guests at the event to enjoy the viewings of the exclusive range of Princess Yachts.
