British luxury yacht manufacturer, Oyster Yachts , is delighted to announce the appointment of Jane Wilkinson (née Arden) as Head of Marketing and Simon Haynes as Finance Director. Both will be based at Oyster’s new headquarters in Southampton.

New management at Oyster Yachts

New management at Oyster Yachts

The new appointments follow the recent relocation from Ipswich, restructure of the successful British business and the expansion of their production facilities. With the current order-book now at 32 yachts, Jane and Simon join Oyster’s Management at an exciting time and their collective experience reinforces the momentum and growth of Oyster Yachts.

Commenting on the new appointments and location, Oyster CEO David Tydeman said: “The relocation of the Oyster headquarters to our long established Shipyard in Southampton creates a simpler structure than our previous operating model of out-sourced sub-contracting. Recruiting Simon and Jane into the senior team is part of ensuring we have the right skills to deliver this new focus and to build up the close links we need between the Southampton yard and our sister shipyard in Norfolk; I am delighted they have joined us.”

Jane joins Oyster from P&O Cruises where she developed and led the Marketing and Planning, working to establish a ‘through the line’ communications strategy.  With previous roles at the luxury holiday group Cadogan, Europe’s largest entertainments company – Merlin and Plastimo UK, Jane has extensive knowledge of Marketing in B2B and B2C environments in the luxury and marine industries.  An energetic marketing professional with strong global experience and instinct for business improvement coupled with Jane’s background in digital marketing, form the top line of her expertise.

Having started her career at the Royal Southern Yacht Club as Assistant Sailing Secretary, Jane has a broad understanding of the yachting scene, with marketing roles at the Tour de France a la Voile, GBR Challenge for the America’s cup and with the winning Alinghi team in the 2003 America’s Cup.

Jane Wilkinson said: “Having a personal interest in yachting and a strong match to the professional skills required for this position, I am relishing working for such an established international brand and leading the Marketing and Communications for the whole business.  I look forward to developing a further integrated and cohesive marketing approach, with particular emphasis on the digital platform.

“The forthcoming Oyster BVI Regatta in April, Private View at St Katharine Docks and Owners’ Dinner in May, will also give me the opportunity to meet the extended Oyster family!”

Establishing the role of Head of Marketing, Jane’s first recruit for her new team sees Kate Porteous join as Marketing and Communications Manager with further roles selectively being filled in the coming months.

Heading up the Finance function at Oyster, Simon Haynes has recently been appointed as Director and is managing the commercial accounting and financial operation of the business.  Simon’s background spans over 15 years working as a senior finance professional across a number of SME, private equity and listed companies including De La Rue – the world’s largest commercial banknote printer and security print solutions provider and Talaris/Glory Global Solutions – the market leading provider of cash-handling solutions to the financial, retail and gaming industries on a global basis.

Simon has a track record of delivering results and supporting business growth through the setting of business strategy, support of business development activities and driving improvements at an operation level as a key member of business teams.

Commenting on his new role Simon Haynes said: “This is an exciting and very appealing role at Oyster and I was delighted to be able to accept the opportunity to join a global brand within the exclusive, high quality yacht market.  I believe my experience in a variety of operating environments and business sectors will help drive further success and I am pleased to be playing an integral role in securing future results.  I look forward to exploring our strategic options and driving operational efficiencies as I take up the financial reins at Oyster Yachts.”

Both Jane and Simon’s appointments will further strengthen the new HQ and team at Oyster’s premises in Saxon Wharf, Southampton.

Oyster Yachts makes key appointments to navigate ongoing challenges

Tuesday, April 25th, 2023

Written by: Marine Industry News

Oyster Yachts

Ashley Highfield, the new chief executive of Oyster Yachts, has confirmed two key appointments to the senior management team as the company continues its turnaround.

Peter Ingram joins as chief financial officer, with David Braben OBE appointed as non-executive board director at the British luxury yacht builder.

Ingram joins Oyster Yachts from Raymarine, where he was most recently VP of finance for the global group. Braben is a digital entrepreneur who founded Frontier Developments in 1993. He was CEO for 28 years before stepping down last year.

Highfield, who joined Oyster in January 2023 , says: “I am delighted to welcome Peter and David to Oyster Yachts. Their collective experience in the marine and digital industries, and successful business track records, are incredibly valuable assets as we continue to strengthen Oyster Yachts. Their arrival coincides with our 50th Anniversary, full build-bays across all three sites, and a very strong order book out to late 2024.

“It is no secret that Oyster Yachts, like many other British companies, has been faced with some difficult challenges because of Brexit, global supply chain issues and the remaining impact of the global pandemic, which in turn delayed our turnaround plans to return the business to profitability.

“My first task on becoming the CEO has been to define a clear plan on how we take Oyster Yachts to the next level. This is based on continuing to deliver the world’s finest yachts on time, to a standard that is beyond expectation; continuing to build on our values-based customer-centric ethos and renowned reputation for customer support and quality; and finally, continuing to innovate to bring international sailors more iconic, award-winning yachts to go anywhere they choose.

“To help achieve this we have a fantastic team of over 600 skilled and passionate people who are dedicated to building our amazing yachts, a great management team and board, strengthened by today’s announcements, which includes owner and chairman Richard Hadida, who remains fanatically devoted to Oyster, and who will continue to serve as a company director. Collectively, we will continue to work closely together to ensure we have the strategy and investment required to keep innovating and growing.”

Richard Hadida took over Oyster in 2018, and has been steadily charting the company back towards profitability. Oyster Yachts’ financial results for its financial year 2022, which ended March 31, 2022, indicate that revenue is up 46 per cent to £43.6m, with turnover from yacht production up 68 per cent to £37.3m. Gross profit is down by 16 per cent, to £5.4m.

In his chairman’s report, Hadida confirms the order book is full for 2023, and 95 per cent full for 2024.

Ingram and Braben join Highfield and Hadida on the board of Oyster Yachts, along with existing director Glynn Chambers and non-executive director Ivan Ritossa.

Oyster Yachts has appointed Peter Hamlyn as Chief Operations Officer. Peter brings over 30 years of invaluable experience and highly relevant manufacturing and management expertise to the luxury blue water yacht company, having held senior operations roles at both Princess Yachts and Fairline Yachts.

Well known within the marine industry, Peter’s role at Princess Yachts included responsibility for the manufacture of all models across the Princess range, as well as overseeing quality assurance, health and safety and engineering functions, and managing over 600 production staff.

Passionate about high quality boat building, Peter started his marine career as a Shipwright at Princess Yachts, before progressing through the company to be appointed to the Executive Team.  His years of experience include operational and change management, including improvements in implementing high-quality cost-effective manufacturing, alignment of processes to improve lead-times, and developing processes for inventory, transportation and workforce effectiveness.

“We’re extremely excited to welcome Peter to the team. He brings a rare blend of hands-on, practical and managerial experience having started on the factory floor and worked his way up to board level.  He has a pragmatic, proven expertise in managing highly valued craftspeople, alongside change management and production quality across all aspects of manufacturing processes,” says Richard Hadida, CEO and Owner of Oyster Yachts.

Peter Hamlyn adds: “Manufacturing high quality yachts involves understanding the development of modern technology and processes, with the appreciation of traditional craft and highly skilled craftspeople. We will exploit new technology to compliment artisan skills, so we can deliver exciting product improvements, alongside timely and profitable production of the world’s finest quality bluewater cruising yacht.”

Sights of Elektrostal, Moscow region

In the Moscow region there is a small cozy town Elektrostal. Its sights for the most part have no historical value due to the fact that the city has a relatively small history. But for a visiting tourist or city dweller, they will be of interest. There is something to see, where to go to have an exciting leisure time.

Today the population of the city is 158 thousand people. Until the beginning of the 20th century there were several small workers' settlements here. After the opening of the electrometallurgical and equipment factories, the place began to be called the natural boundary of Calm. The construction of the railway made this settlement accessible, and workers and families flocked here to earn money. In 1925, the station was named Elektrostal, and the rapid increase in population allowed the village to receive the status of a city.

The founder of the city is a prominent Russian industrialist Nikolai Vtorov. It was he who opened the plant here, creating, in fact, a city-forming enterprise that is still operating. In Soviet times, it was a closed facility, and it was not easy to get to work here.

Today Elektrostal is a promising industrial city with a great future and a heroic past. It bears the proud name "City of Military and Labor Glory".

You can learn about the sights of Elektrostal with descriptions and photos here. There are places for walking, outdoor activities and cultural development.

sights of the electric steel of the Moscow region

Those who come to the city by train are met by a monument to the metallurgist. It was installed in November 2017 for the 100th anniversary of the Elektrostal plant. The attraction is made in the style of constructivism. The monument quickly won the love of the townspeople, because this city is supported by ordinary workers.

Elektrost altsy and the founding father of the plant, Nikolai Vtorov, are honored. In 2002, a monument was opened in honor of him, which became a landmark of the city of Elektrostal. The bronze sculpture is installed on the site where once stood a monument to the leader of the world proletariat, V. I. Lenin. Times change, characters change. Today, the plant, founded a century ago, is the largest in Russia. Vtorov himself, whose fortune was estimated at 60 million rubles in gold, according to Forbes magazine, was the owner of the largest capital at the beginning of the century. He was a banker, an industrialist, an entrepreneur, a man of action.

The monument was erected byinitiative of the townspeople who wished to perpetuate the monument to the great man.

One of the popular places for spending weekends and evenings among citizens and guests of the city is the Park of Culture and Leisure. Here you can ride attractions for children and adults, play slot machines, rollerblade or bike. The park is divided into two zones. Fans of unhurried walks in the fresh air make a promenade on the Quiet Alley, and those who prefer outdoor activities flock to the Entertainment Alley. The park has a summer stage, where concerts and cafes are regularly held.

Elektrostal attractions

Until 1999, there was no central museum among the attractions of Elektrostal in the Moscow Region. The expositions were exhibited in schools, the house of culture, in factory museums. The city was closed, so there was no large influx of tourists and visitors. The appearance of the historical and art museum made it possible for residents and guests of the city to learn a lot of useful information about their native land, the formation of the production process, and the difficult years of the war. The exposition consists of paintings by local artists, historical artifacts, household items, documents, books and much more. The collection is updated regularly. It also hosts outdoor exhibitions, which are always popular with the townspeople.

One of the main attractions of Elektrostal, the photo of which is available to almost every resident or visitor, is the Main Alley. On herpassers-by like to stroll along shady paths, townspeople rest by the fountain after a hard shift at the plant. Flower beds are the decoration of the alley. In 2006, a flower festival was held here for the first time, which has become traditional. Each enterprise of the city and private individuals give residents a real composition of fresh flowers, which pleases with bright colors all summer long. A riot of colors, aromas and a flight of fantasy reigns here. Walking through the park, you can see Snow White with a basket, a bright well, a multi-tiered cake made from fresh flowers, hearts of lovers or a fabulous house. It is almost impossible not to take a photo against the background of these compositions.

There is a cultural center in the city. It hosts performances by local creative teams and visiting stars, performances and circus performances.

In 1971, the ice palace "Crystal" was opened in the city. Almost immediately, a children's and youth hockey team was organized, which gained sports fame. This is the home sports arena for the Elektrostal hockey team. Matches of different levels are held on the ice.

There are sections for children who go in for hockey or figure skating. Citizens come here with their families to cheer for their favorite team or go ice skating.

Elektrostal is a city with a heroic past. During the war years, more than 12 thousand citizens came to the recruiting station and went to the front to defend their homeland. Almost 4 thousand of them did not return from the battle. To these heroesdedicated to the memorial complex with the inextinguishable Eternal Flame, opened in 1968

But the electricians took part in the war in Afghanistan and Chechnya. By decision of the city authorities, their memory is also immortalized in the memorial complex.

It has become a good tradition for newlyweds to lay flowers at this monument.

attractions of the city of Elektrostal

In 1999, a museum and exhibition complex was opened in the city, where, in addition to the exhibition hall, there are numerous circles for children, classes for young people, and a creative workshop. Various festivals, exhibitions, city holidays and other events are held within the walls and on the territory of the complex, which attract many spectators.

Elektrostal attractions

Listing the sights of Elektrostal, it is impossible not to mention the temples. There are several of them in the city: the church of St. John of Kronstadt, St. Andrew's Church, the hospital church of St. Panteleimon. Another new church is being built. In appearance, the temples look ancient, monumental, in the Novgorod style. But they were all built at the end of the 20th century.

Let there be no ancient artifacts among the sights of Elektrostal. But on the other hand, all of them are connected with the history of the city, with everyday work and military exploits of ordinary residents.
