Azimut Atlantis 50 foot yacht interior design

A yacht is really just a luxury floating home . When you’re talking 70 feet and larger, they’re a lot nicer than my house. As you’ll see in the luxury yacht interiors below, the quality and aesthetics are simply gorgeous. And we merely feature a small handful of such boats. There are thousands and thousands of these worldwide.

Our epic yacht interiors article is split into 5 galleries:  staterooms, guest bedrooms , salons and dinettes, kitchens and bathrooms. The point of this article is to merely give you a glimpse inside these ultra expensive boats… expensive to buy, run and maintain. Be sure to also check out our yacht decks galleries .

Yacht Primary Bedrooms (Staterooms)

We kick off our yacht interiors gallery with the stateroom. When it comes to the primary bedroom on these boats, no expense is spared. They are large, comfortable and stunning in design. These bedrooms are bigger than our primary bedroom.

Yacht Guest Bedrooms (2 Beds)

Many guest bedrooms on a yacht have two beds so that it can accommodate more people. However, they are, as you’ll see below, still very, very luxurious. These are certainly cozy sleeping quarters.

Salon and Dinette Photos

My favorite room on the boat is the salon and/or dinette area. In many cases, the dinette doubles as the living room. Mega yachts have dedicated salons and dining areas. I love these superb lounge designs below in the cabin as well as the upper lounge areas.

Large yacht salon interior

I must admit that kitchens on these super yachts are fairly small. I guess the cooking is done by the staff and yacht owners prefer to have more space for bedrooms, deck space and lounge space. That makes sense given there really is limited space. Nevertheless, these kitchens are gorgeous and the yacht designers certainly didn’t skimp with respect to quality.

Most boats dedicate very little space to bathrooms. Not these. The primary bathrooms below are incredible. The smaller bathrooms are guest bathrooms. These luxury yachts are so large and spacious that even the bathrooms are both beautiful and comfortable to use.

Bottega Veneta

Italian style is no stranger to flamboyance so Bottega Veneta’s subtle and discreet Home Collection is perfect for the superyacht owner who prefers a more muted colour palette. Founded in Vicenza in 1966, Bottega Veneta began producing luxury leather goods in the master craftsman tradition. That approach, rather than trend-driven fashion, has remained the cornerstone of the brand.

In 2006, the year it opened a school dedicated to training the next generation of leather artisans, the company launched its Home Collection. Creative director Tomas Maier started it all in 2001, when he began commissioning bespoke furnishings for select retail stores. The pieces soon attracted the attention of discerning clients but, rather than selling them (as was often requested), Maier promised to make the customers their own versions instead.

Ten years later the Home Collection is now an integral part of Bottega Veneta. It favours modern, functional pieces that bear the trademark intrecciato leather braiding motif. Each item is elegant enough to work as a standalone accessory or as part of a set, and the look suits an onboard setting just as well as one on dry land.

As part of luxury Italian linen house Pratesi’s ambitious five-year plan towards international expansion, it has launched a new range specifically for yachts. The collection of sumptuous bedding, table linens and towels is made to order, with customisation options including bespoke monogramming available.

Run by the fourth generation of the Pratesi family, the house is focused on delivering faultless craftsmanship, drawing on the skill of its team of designers, weavers and embroiderers, who create the linen in its Florence headquarters. COO and future CEO Simone Bocchio and president Federica Pratesi bring a personal insight into the yachting industry to the production of timeless, elegant linens.

Molteni&C

Architect, industrial designer, artist and publisher, Gio Ponti was a giant of 20th century Italian design. During his long and fruitful career, Ponti developed an all-encompassing approach to his work, creating not just the structure of a building but also conceiving its entire interior scheme, from furnishings to lighting fixtures. His finest achievements include the Pirelli Tower — Milan’s first modern skyscraper — and the distinctive, castle-like Denver Art Museum.

One of Ponti’s most enduringly popular designs, however, is something altogether closer to home. The 1957 Via Dezza chair is an angular, upholstered armchair built on a linear metal frame. It was created by Ponti along with the entire furnishings of his self-designed Milan home (pictured) from which it takes its name.

For those coveting a slice of Ponti’s creative genius, the armchair and select Via Dezza gems have been reissued in an exclusive collection by Molteni&C. One of Italy’s most renowned furniture manufacturers, Molteni is a natural platform to preserve and present Ponti’s talent. The company works with some of the world’s best designers on a variety of high-end real estate and marine projects. The Via Dezza chair adaptation, Armchair D.153.1, stays true to the original, is available in two Ponti-designed fabrics and is the perfect place to kick back and enjoy the waves.

FM Architettura d’Interni

“All projects start as dreams in the mind of an owner.” This is the philosophy of the Italian company that has designed the interiors of some of the world’s finest superyachts and most luxurious hotel suites and palatial private homes. FM Architettura d’Interni was founded by the architect Francesca Muzio and the interior designer Maria Silvia Orlandini in 2009, and in a few short years, has amassed an incredibly impressive portfolio of clients in all corners of the world.

The company made its name by creating yacht interiors that are effortlessly elegant, yet at the same time have an inviting, natural feel. As its reputation grew, it was commissioned for high-profile interior design projects such as the luxurious Presidential Suite of Shangri-La at The Shard, London - along with other Shangri-La properties in China and the Philippines — as well as premium residential properties stretching from Bahrain to Beverly Hills.

Despite the long list of people lining up to benefit from their expertise, Muzio and Orlandini never forget the views of the most important person in any project: the owner. Whether the commission is for a yacht or a penthouse, the pair consult at length with the client so his or her “uniquely personal wishes” can be fully reflected in the interior that FM Architettura d’Interni will go on to create.

Tai Ping has been making and supplying one-of-a-kind carpets to discerning clients all over the world for 50 years. Its first-ever commission, from the Grauman’s Theatre in Los Angeles, was for a carpet so large it needed to be constructed in a tent erected outside the factory. Today, the Hong Kong-headquartered company has five distinct divisions and showrooms across Europe, North America and Asia.

New for 2016 is a collaboration with award-winning florist Jeff Leatham. The artistic director at Paris’s Four Seasons Hotel Georges V, Leatham is famed for creating stunning floral installations and bouquets for everyone from the Dalai Lama to Oprah Winfrey.

The Bloom collection comprises 14 handmade wool-and-silk rugs that were inspired by geometric shapes and the organic forms of solid, liquid and vapour. Each of the custom-made designs explodes with colour, with even Leatham admitting to feeling “chills” when he saw them realised for the first time.

Stefano Ricci

Stefano Ricci’s Luxury Yacht Division designs bespoke interiors for some of the most sophisticated vessels in the world. Catering to an elite clientele, its projects are characterised by an elegant finish and sumptuous details, and include the likes of glazed cabinets, handwoven textiles and intricate ornaments with calligraphic patterns. Ricci’s furniture is traditional and ornate, and it’s not immediately obvious that it has been developed for a yacht environment. A recent collaboration with Florence-based designer Luca Dini saw the interior of a mammoth 70 metre superyacht refitted to an almost palatial standard. Utilising the best materials, as is the company’s signature, the interior was furnished in Californian briarwood and Tuscan marble.

Its renowned Home line is similarly plush, represents the finest Italian craftsmanship and has a 100 per cent Made in Italy brief. Nowhere is this clearer than in its recently updated porcelain lines, which blur the boundaries between art and utility. The Lapis Lazuli line gives a contemporary twist to porcelain, featuring deep blue hues and playing up the opulence historically associated with blue by coupling it with 24ct gold detailing.

Pitt-Pollaro

Back in 2012, when Frank Pollaro was commissioned to create a desk for Brad Pitt’s château in the South of France, little did he know a new partnership was about to be forged. On delivering the piece, he noticed the actor’s sketchbook was full of furniture sketches and suggested they make them a reality.

The Pitt-Pollaro Collection is designed by Pitt and crafted by Pollaro. It demonstrates the attention to detail the likes of Robert De Niro have sought out and majors in art deco-inspired pieces in opulent materials, such as the decadent Statuario Venato marble Toi et Moi bath (above, in a limited edition of three), which can accommodate two well-heeled people. Should you require further credentials, Pollaro has designed yacht furniture for tech giant Larry Ellison, and Pitt-Pollaro was one to the top luxury and interiors brands at the Monaco Yacht Show .

Baldi, founded in Florence in 1867, is dedicated to continuing the rich artistic heritage and tradition of craft that has long been integral to the city. The one-of-a-kind creations of its interior-design arm, Casa Baldi, are imbued with classic Italian style and hand-crafted using the very latest techniques. Its first foray into nautical design saw superyacht Alexander Again transformed into a spectacular floating palace.

Solid Nature

Stunning stone doesn’t begin and end with marble. Solid Nature sources the finest alternatives from across the world for the ultimate in bespoke floors and walls.

Its semi-precious line is perhaps the most extraordinary, comprising as it does those not usually available in large slabs — rose quartz, lapis lazuli, amethyst, malachite and petrified wood, among others. Onyx options, meanwhile, range from a honey hue with white veins to caramel clouds and speckled Maldivian azure, while matte travertine comes in neutral taupe, rusty ochre and gold. If you simply must have marble, there’s an array of colours, from gold-streaked smoky-grey Portoro to yellow moonstone and even zebra stripes.

These are the Yacht Interior Designers to Know

Designing a superyacht is a personal experience and involves making an overwhelming amount of choices.

By Sophie Killip

luxurious yacht interior

For those seasoned individuals who have experience chartering yachts , visiting friends’ yachts, sailing the high seas, or maybe even purchasing their first pre-designed yacht, the next thrill might come from building their own vessel. Although designing your own superyacht is a truly personal experience, it also involves making an overwhelming amount of choices. This is why the first step to building a new superyacht should always be to choose a designer to work with – and there are several yacht interior designers you can choose from.

Whether it’s considering how the internal spaces of your yacht will work, what furniture or materials are used, or even working out the external design for your new vessel, collaborating with a designer will make the process of creating your dream superyacht as stress-free and easy as possible. To help, Elite Traveler has created a list of yacht interior (and exterior, in some cases) designers that should be on your radar – and if you’re also on the lookout for a new yacht builder, why not discover our list of the best luxury yacht builders in the world ?

Winch Design

Our list of the best yacht interior designers kicks off with  Winch Design. Originally founded by Andrew Winch and his wife Jane in 1986, at the time it was known as Andrew Winch Designs. It was rebranded as Winch Designs in 2015 but has been one of the UK’s leading superyacht and private jet design studios for over thirty years. Winch Design’s yacht studio is now led by Jim Dixon and the team has created a multitude of extraordinary projects, all of which are highly bespoke and tailored to each client’s specific requests.

One of Winch Design’s most recent yacht projects was the 260 ft M/Y Excellence , which shipbuilder Abeking & Rasmussen say was its “most challenging project to date”. Its owner worked closely with the design studio to create a yacht with interiors inspired by the “Floridian East Cost Deco” style and that felt both personal to him and welcoming to any guest on board. “ Excellence was a very exciting project to be involved with and [she] tested the team to their creative limits,” says senior partner, Ignacio Oliva-Vele.

Terence disdale design.

Based in the UK, Terence Disdale Design is one of the yachting industry’s most respected design studios. The team works on both the interior and exterior design of some of the world’s most incredible yachts, with previous projects including M/Y Eclipse , one of the biggest superyachts in the world. The studio was founded by Terence Disdale, who – despite having no formal training – is one of the most sought-after designers in the industry.

Disdale set up his eponymous studio in 1972 after working for famous designer Jon Bannenberg (Bannenberg’s studio was also where Andrew Winch and Tim Heywood learned their craft). Across his extraordinary 40-year career Disdale and his studio have designed over 100 yachts, including more than 50 superyachts. His wide-ranging design style often follows the mantra of ‘beach house, not penthouse’, with concepts often finding inspiration from the ocean.

Sorgiovanni Designs

Australian yacht designer Sam Sorgiovanni’s career began after he studied Industrial Design and found his first position working for shipbuilder Oceanfast. It was thanks to the experience he gained at this renowned shipbuilder that Sorgiovanni decided to set up his own studio, launching Sorgiovanni Designs in 1997 in Fremantle, Western Australia. The studio has also recently opened an office in Monaco in order to expand its design services to Europe.

Sorgiovanni believes it’s important to “keep one eye on the past” when designing projects, “in order to avoid making the same mistakes” as before. Previous yacht designs that he has worked on include the 390 ft Amana in collaboration with Oceanco, and the exteriors of the 270 ft Secret. When Sorgiovanni is not working on a particular project, he is also traveling the world to consult on yacht designs for clients, working with a variety of suppliers and shipbuilders.

Zaniz Studio

Yacht interior designer Zaniz Studio exterior of Luminosity

Next up on our list of the best yacht interior designers is Zaniz Studio. The company was founded in New York City by English-American designer Zaniz Jakubowski – who up until recently, had rarely been able to discuss her astounding portfolio of projects due to the NDAs that came with the commissions. The studio has an international reputation for creating iconic and innovative projects, which always have strong attention to detail. As well as designing for both private and commercial yachts, Zaniz Studio works across other industries, including creating theatre sets and residential and commercial interiors.

One of Zaniz Studio’s latest projects – and one it was able to share – was the 350 ft superyacht Luminosity , which went on the market last year for over $266 million. The studio was responsible for both the interior and exterior of Luminosity, which was built by Italian shipyard Benetti. What is most interesting is that the team abandoned the typical format of designing the exterior first, followed by the interior; instead, the superyacht has been designed from the inside out.

One of its latest projects was the 465 ft Nord (previously called Project Opus).

Not only is Nuvolari Lenard based in Venice, but it also has a renowned Design Center on the outskirts of the city that hosts architects and designers working on a range of tasks. Inside the Design Center is a scale yacht model workshop that gives designers the opportunity to visualize their concepts and research shapes before confirming a final design. The interior design section of the studio’s Design Center also features a showroom where clients and designers can discuss fabrics and materials.

The onboard showcase piece is a 30-foot-tall light fixture constructed from Murano glass that sits within the spiral staircase, joining all three levels.

Luxury at Sea: The Ultimate Guide to Yacht Interior Design

Introduction to yacht interior design.

Yacht interior design is an artful mix of beauty, elegance and tech . Aesthetics coupled with functional designs give a unique experience on board. Color palettes and use of space are carefully thought out for a luxe feel .

Creating yacht interiors needs close attention to detail . Colors, furniture, accessories and lighting fixtures contribute to the ambiance. Owners, designers and builders work together to bring the desired look to life.

Eco-friendly materials are a growing trend in yacht interior design. Energy-efficient lighting systems and recyclable furniture create a more sustainable environment.

Functionality and luxurious aesthetics must be balanced to make the experience unforgettable. Hidden storage areas are essential to keep necessary items on hand without detracting from the look.

Factors to Consider when Designing Yacht Interiors

To optimize your yacht’s interior design, keep in mind key factors like space, materials, and style. Aim for maximum layout optimization, while choosing durable materials that harmonize with the yacht’s aesthetics. Explore the overall style and aesthetics to bring luxury and comfort to the high seas.

Space and Layout Optimization

Designing a yacht’s interior requires consideration of multiple factors. To optimize space and create a stunning look, customizing every aspect is key. This includes functional spaces like saloons, galleys, staterooms, and communal areas .

Layout optimization calls for proper circulation flow. Designers must choose materials that are attractive, functional, and durable. Cabinetry design is also important, as it provides storage and adds visual value.

Lighting and color choices can also be used to optimize space. Lighter hues on walls give an illusion of space in low deck height ceilings. LED lighting strips can be used to show off custom features at night.

Pro Tip : Don’t overcrowd the interior with furniture; instead, opt for hidden or collapsible features that offer multiple functions while maximizing available square footage. Invest in materials that will last longer than your last relationship .

Material Selection and Durability

Material selection is key for a yacht interior that is both beautiful and long-lasting. Strength, durability, appearance, and cost should all be taken into account.

Some common materials used for yacht interiors are:

  • Leather: Durable, soft, and comfortable.
  • Wood: Classic look, versatile, and strong.
  • Marble: Elegant, costly, and easy to clean.
  • Fabric: Plenty of colors and textures.

Each material has its own pros and cons. For example, leather may be long-lasting and comfortable, but it can crack over time if not properly cared for. Water resistance and ease of cleaning should also be considered. Anti-microbial fabrics or wood finishes can keep mold and mildew at bay. High traffic areas need tougher materials. Cabins, on the other hand, can have more delicate fabrics as they don’t get much use.

Sturdy materials are ideal when it comes to yacht interiors – they should be able to withstand wear and tear and maximize space utilization. Luxury and practicality should always be balanced. After all, no one wants to slip on marble floors in high seas!

Overall Style and Aesthetics

Designing yacht interiors requires consideration of style and aesthetics . Color schemes, materials, and furniture placement all come into play. A theme or style such as contemporary or traditional can be used. It must be both functional and beautiful, yet luxurious.

Details are key – moldings, lighting fixtures, and spacing of furniture. For instance, a modern-elegant, yet comfortable interior was designed for a client. Neutral tones were accented with gold finishes. Luxurious leather furnishings, custom cabinetry, and high-quality finishes completed the look.

From grandeur to minimalism, yacht interior design themes let you feel like a billionaire – in any boat!

Popular Yacht Interior Design Themes

To explore popular yacht interior design themes, we’ve got you covered with contemporary, classic, and Art Deco yacht interior design ideas. In order to give your yacht an elegant and luxurious appeal, these three sub-sections offer distinct approaches and aesthetics to inspire your yacht’s interior design.

Contemporary Yacht Interior Design

Contemporary yacht interior design is evolving with modern times. Luxury interiors are in demand and designers are coming up with cutting-edge ideas to make every corner of the yacht ooze opulence and comfort. Let’s take a peek at some popular themes:

  • Minimalist – open spaces, clean lines, neutral colors;
  • Nautical – blue/white stripes, sailing artifacts, wood;
  • Industrial – metal accents, raw textures, exposed beams;
  • Luxury – plush carpets, tufted furniture, high-end decor;
  • Modern – sleek forms, innovative materials, bright lights.

To add an extra wow-factor, custom light fixtures and bespoke artwork can be included. Marble countertops or backsplashes can also elevate the look without overpowering the theme. Natural elements like greenery or organic textures bring balance and living experiences, like aromatherapy diffusers, can make for an immersive experience.

When designing a contemporary yacht interior, functionality should not be sacrificed for aesthetics. Creating an efficient use of space while maintaining charm is crucial. A classic yacht interior design is timeless, elegant and never goes out of style. There are unlimited options for creating beautiful contemporary yacht interiors. From selecting exquisite materials to blending colors, planning your dream sail-away destination has endless possibilities.

Classic Yacht Interior Design

Classic yachts feature luxurious interior designs. Rich fabrics like velvet and damask, mahogany wood, teak, leather, and silk create an opulent atmosphere. Intricate details like hand-carved woodwork, crystal chandeliers, and brass fixtures make these vessels stand out.

The Christina O is a classic yacht owned by Greek tycoon Aristotle Onassis. Its interior includes a grand piano played by Frank Sinatra . Even outdoor spaces are adorned with luxurious elements like jacuzzis made from 24-carat gold tiles .

A classic yacht interior never goes out of style . It’s like having a time machine that can transport you to 1920s glamour.

Art Deco Yacht Interior Design

Art Deco is a well-known yacht interior design theme that blends opulent materials with geometric shapes for an exotic look. Chrome, oversized mirrors, glossy wood, and luxurious leather upholstery are all staples of this style. Popular in the 1920s and 30s, Art Deco has continued to inspire modern designers.

Streamlined curves, high-gloss finishes, and contrasting textures, colors, and patterns are the unique features of this yacht interior design. Ornate detailing on furniture like zebra stripes or faux fur throws add richness. Bold geometric tiles and velvet cushions create an elegant atmosphere.

For a successful Art Deco design, layer textures logically . Consider a swirling patterned carpet beneath a lampshade or aviator chairs beneath tiled tables. Exercise restraint while adopting elements. Balance texture playfulness and simplicity for a cohesive look . Transform your yacht interior into a luxury hotel suite and enjoy room service with a wave.

Furniture and Furnishing Ideas for Yacht Interiors

To amp up the interior design of your luxury yacht, check out some furniture and furnishing ideas that can make all the difference. Upgrade your yacht with better seating arrangements, smarter storage solutions, and fancier lighting fixtures.

Seating Arrangements

Seating arrangements are key for yacht interiors. It is important to pick furniture that looks good and offers both comfort and functionality. Let us check out some seating ideas for your yacht.

For a unique touch in your yacht interiors, consider adding seating like bean bags or hanging chairs . These alternative options can add a fun and relaxing feel to your space.

One client wanted a circular sofa for their yacht’s saloon. This sofa had cushions that could be changed into various shapes. This unique and versatile piece gave different seating options for the clients’ guests and also saved space on their yacht.

These storage solutions will make your yacht more spacious, or give you somewhere to hide all those empty champagne bottles!

Storage Solutions

On the hunt for storage solutions for your yacht’s interior? Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Install built-in cabinets and shelves that match the yacht’s decor.
  • Make use of under-seat storage by adding custom-made drawers or compartments.
  • Hanging organizers are ideal for smaller items like clothes, shoes and accessories.
  • Multi-functional furniture pieces such as ottomans or coffee tables with hidden storage spaces can help you save space.
  • Stack bins or wall-mounted baskets to maximize vertical space.

For a touch of sophistication, opt for materials like teak wood or stainless steel – they are both durable and aesthetically pleasing.

Don’t let clutter ruin the luxury of yachting. Put everything in its place and make your interior visually appealing. Take control of the organization and get ready to show off your yacht in style. Now, unleash your inner designer and let your yacht sparkle with these storage solutions.

Lighting Fixtures

Lighting in yacht interiors serves more than one purpose. It illuminates the space and adds to the ambiance. Different types of lighting are used for different functions.

For example:

  • Overhead lighting: Main source of illumination
  • Accent lighting: To highlight specific features
  • Task lighting: Specific activities like reading or cooking

Installing dimmer switches is recommended for adjustable lighting intensity. LED lights are energy efficient and long lasting. Choose light fixtures that fit the style and complement the yacht’s existing furnishings. For example, modern yachts may use contemporary fixtures while traditional yachts may use brass.

Did you know that chandeliers were originally used in sailing ships to reduce the swinging of suspended lights? Now they are a staple in luxury yachts, adding elegance and sophistication. Who needs art when you’ve got the open sea?

Art and Decor for Yacht Interiors

To create a stunning yacht interior, look no further than the art and decor techniques in this guide. Enhance the look and feel of your yacht interior by incorporating painting and murals, sculptures and artifacts, and textile and upholstery design. Each sub-section offers unique solutions for creating a luxurious and personalized atmosphere on your yacht.

Painting and Murals

Artwork is essential for yacht interiors. Paintings and Murals bring sophistication and elegance . They add depth, character, and warmth to the decor. Paintings are focal points, without distracting from other elements . Murals can be customized to reflect the owner’s unique style.

Painting creates intimacy in larger yachts. Commissioned artwork allows owners to work with an artist for a personalized masterpiece. Smaller cabins can benefit from paintings that reflect each passenger’s personality. Different colors and textures help create a relaxed atmosphere. They balance the design elements and create breathtaking visuals.

Paintings have been used to transform spaces for centuries. Steve Penley was commissioned by Carolina Outdoor Recreational Equipment (CORE) for their Rinker 29QX project. When decorating a yacht, consider adding custom-made paintings by established artists. Elevate the yacht interior’s decorative style with artwork that enhances the overall mood. And, of course, nothing says ‘luxury’ quite like a giant golden sculpture of yourself!

Sculptures and Artifacts

Art and Decor for Yacht Interiors can make or break a vessel’s ambiance. Sculptures and Artifacts provide a sophisticated and elegant touch. Choosing the right pieces is key to complement the space.

Sculptures and artifacts come in many forms. Wooden carvings, hand-painted ceramics, glass sailfish sculptures, bronze divers – the options are limitless. They also make great conversation starters.

Pro Tip: Ensure the pieces are fastened securely in place – no moving around during bumpy rides! For an extra comfort level, why not try a plush velvet cushion from the yacht interior’s textile and upholstery design section?

Textile and Upholstery Design

Aesthetics are crucial for yacht owners to increase the appeal of their vessels. Textile and Upholstery Design is one way to heighten the atmosphere of their interiors. Fabric selection is key. Pick sturdy, top-notch fabric that matches the décor. Colors should complement the scheme, cabinetry, and furniture in the area. Adding comfort with customized cushions and pillows will tie it all together.

Window treatments such as curtains, blinds, or shutters are also part of the design. It should express the owner’s style while taking into consideration the space available.

To really spruce up the yacht interior, personalize it! Monogrammed linen napkins or hand towels with embroidered initials can make guests feel special and emphasize exclusivity. Keeping your yacht interior in order is like tending to a demanding girlfriend – it takes commitment and lots of moolah!

Maintenance of Yacht Interiors

To ensure that your yacht’s interiors remain in pristine condition, it is essential that you follow the maintenance procedures. In this section on ‘Maintenance of Yacht Interiors with Cleaning and Preventative Measures, Repair and Restoration Techniques’, we will guide you through the upkeep process. We will cover the two sub-sections in detail to provide solutions for cleaning and preventative measures and repairing and restoring your yacht’s interiors.

Cleaning and Preventative Measures

Keep your yacht in top shape with regular cleaning and preventative measures! Wipe down surfaces and store items away to limit damage. Invest in protective covers for upholstery and carpets, and inspect interior components like lighting fixtures, plumbing, and appliances.

Reduce mold and mildew growth with air purifiers or dehumidifiers. Dirt accumulation can be detrimental to health, so take preventative measures to keep it clean and safe. Restore your yacht interior with the right restoration techniques – no magic wand needed!

Repair and Restoration Techniques

The interiors of a yacht play a key role in making the voyage comfortable and memorable. However, when exposed to water and unpredictable weather conditions, wear and tear is unavoidable. To keep the elegance of the yacht’s interior, repair and restoration are necessary.

Follow this 5-step guide for repair and restoration of yacht interiors :

  • Assess the damage and make a list of materials you’ll need.
  • Clean the existing space.
  • Repair any damaged supports, fixtures, or fittings.
  • Restore furniture and other elements with proper color matching, polishing, or finishing to bring back its original appearance.
  • Carry out ongoing maintenance activities, such as regular cleaning, check-ups, and repairs as needed.

To maintain yacht interiors, consider unique details like keeping track of service dates for upholstery cleaning or replacing carpets to ensure they match your yacht’s style.

The National Safety Council found that 50% of boating accidents are caused by poor maintenance . So, regular maintenance is essential for a safe cruise on your yacht.

Whether luxury or practicality is your yacht interior’s goal, maintenance is the key to keeping it in tip-top shape .

Conclusion and Final Thoughts on Yacht Interior Design

Creating a yacht interior is key to a luxurious experience. Every detail matters – from materials to colors. It may seem daunting, but expert help makes it possible to get that dream yacht!

Practicality and aesthetics must go hand-in-hand. Layout and arrangement must work in small spaces and all amenities must be available. Professionals and experienced crews can help take into account safety requirements.

Eco-friendly products are important too. Renewable resources and sustainable options reduce the impact on marine ecosystems. High-quality materials from businesses committed to reducing carbon footprints help preserve our planet.

Pro Tip: Less is more when it comes to yacht interiors. Simple elegance and sophistication create a sophisticated space for everyone to enjoy!

Luxury Superyacht Interior Design Ideas

Jonathan Holmes

Home decoration doesn’t have to be restrained to dry land abodes. For those who count a luxury boat as a second home, or have their sights set on being able to say so someday, superyacht interior inspiration becomes a hot topic. There are design principles that remain relevant whatever the shape, size and style of the property, such as harnessing natural light, but beyond that, superyacht interior design requires its own, shipshape decorating agenda.

Incorporating the structural elements

Boat interior design typically faces a few physical barriers that affect the aesthetic. Often, some of the necessary structural facets of the build are exposed, such as steel supporting girders in the centre of a room, or technical obligations like marked security exits and emergency lighting that need to be visible, but will detract from the room’s style.

The key is to turn these challenges into opportunities. In the case of the supporting columns, they can be transformed into elegant pillars with additional, dummy columns added to make a statement with strong symmetry.

Channelling natural light

Just as with houses on the shore, a luxury yacht interior is always going to be benefit from natural light pouring in. Many contemporary yachts are purposefully being designed to echo what you see in contemporary buildings – ceiling to floor sheets of glass. Or as close to that as they can.

Not only does this direct a greater degree of natural light into the yacht’s living spaces, but it challenges the traditional window design you’d see at sea, making them appear less stereotypically nautical.

Maximise the amount of light by using high-gloss, polished surfaces that will reflect the sun’s rays as well as oversized mirrors if the wall space allows. If the yacht’s windows are more traditional in their dimensions, avoid heavy window treatments like fully-lined, voluminous curtains that, even when pulled back, will block some of the natural light from entering.

Working with oddly shaped rooms

Many vessels have a matrix of unusually shaped rooms that can make living quarters feel cramped. One way to work around this to use glass instead so that there’s still the required support in place, but the walls become transparent, opening up the environment.

This takes a lot of planning with the shipyard and means creating a channel that holds the glass within the boat’s structure – it should be installed even before the flooring so that the wall flows smoothly through the floor. But if this degree of build isn’t passable or if you’re only concerned with decoration rather than the boat’s architecture, remember to stick to just a few colours and materials in your boat’s scheme.

By having walls, ceiling and designer furniture all in the same colour, they fuse together and make unusually shaped rooms appear less cumbersome. In the Martin Kemp Design interior, you see a focus on white and the same tone of wood used from room to room, which result in any awkward angles being smoothed out.

Make the most of the minimal square footage

Even on the grandest of super yachts (have a read of our Q&A with superyacht firm Bannenberg and Rowell for seriously grand boat design talk), space is always the biggest constraint. Practicality doesn’t have to overrule good looks, but the two do need to balance to achieve a harmonious interior. Nothing is more frustrating than when there’s not enough room to store belongings, so by ensuring there’s a considerable amount of clever, integrated storage, the less there is to line the corridors and litter any surfaces.

Other key design tips to not over-occupy minimal square footage include ensuring any electrical wiring and speakers for technology like music or entertainment systems is concealed in the boat’s walls with a flush finish if possible. With lighting , concentrate less on floor lamps and more on wall lights , ceiling lights and pendant lights . Look closer at the Martin Kemp Design yacht bedroom and you’ll notice there are bedside wall lights and shelves rather than lamps and tables, as well as lots of LED strip lighting that take up no room.

Build in seamless storage

Attention to detail is always pivotal in interior design, because the smallest of touches can have a huge effect. In terms of a boat’s design, a strong example is making sure any storage is handleless.

Push-to-open mechanisms or cutout handles really do make a room feel far sleeker. The handle-free option combined with integrated storage that’s flush to the wall allows for significant fluidity. This doesn’t mean to say that every piece of storage has to be fitted. But try to bring in any freestanding items of storage in line with the architecture of the room. Follow any places where the walls come out and let them be your guide.

Looking back at the Martin Kemp Design bedroom, the chest of drawers doesn’t protrude past the wall on the left-hand side of the room, and in the twin bedroom, the bedside tables are at the same level as the bed frame which creates a seamless line.

Working with low ceilings

Superyacht design almost always should seek to combat the notorious low ceiling environment. Boat ceilings can be as low as seven feet, so employ design trickery techniques that can give the illusion that they’re on the taller side.

Reflective materials used well will add lift and can even create a feeling of infinity when they’re used in a detail-oriented way. For example, in the Martin Kemp Design bedroom pictured, where there’s a combination of gloss paintwork and reflective panels laid in a chevron formation which draws the eye up and along.

Equally, dark colours used overhead with a reflective finish adds depth to the ceiling that’s hard to calculate – there’s no telling where it ends, and so the ceiling height feels lifted, like it might go on and on and on.

The Most Exciting Superyacht Interiors of 2022

By Heather Collier

Superyachts.com reflects on the some of the most memorable and remarkable superyacht interiors unveiled and showcased over the course of the past year.

Lady Lene In May of this year, interior images of the 34 metre fully custom Van der Valk explorer yacht Lady Lene were unveiled for the very first time, and was publicly presented at the Cannes Yachting Festival last month. The all-aluminium tri-deck superyacht is instantly recognisable by her golden-bronze hull, fast-displacement round bilge hull and wave-piercing bow. However, Lady Lene’s interiors more than rival her sleek and sturdy exterior. Accommodating up to 10 guests, the client's brief included five staterooms: two master, one of them on the bridge deck with a private balcony, two spacious and comfortable VIP, and a guest cabin, as well as six crew members in a captain's cabin and two crew cabins. The intention for Lady Lene's interior was to create a calming effect throughout. Using materials such as fluted wood, a popular material in the 1920s and 30s, as well as natural oak, silk georgette stone, leather, and suede, the design team were able to create a cosy yet luxurious feel.

Subtle champagne gold metal touches also help create a harmonious connection between the spaces, masterfully executed by the artisans of the Van der Valk Shipyard. The main deck expands from the spacious dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows and hideable cabinetry over a residential kitchen with full-size side-by-side fridge and freezer and a six-burner induction cooktop at the bow all the way through the saloon to the large al-fresco dining and lounge areas on the extended aft deck, with a seamless transition from inside to outside areas.

Goga Described by Benetti as a 'new chapter' in this historic shipyard's journey, Goga offers a transformative 'new concept of space' to those onboard.

Rather uniquely for a yacht of 37m, guest cabins have been elevated on to the main deck, a feature more common of a much larger yacht. Her bridge can also have a veranda or a private owner deck, which is rare for a yacht of her size, and more typical of yachts 55m+.

Her interior was designed in-house by Mauro Izzo. Through Izzo and Giorgetti Design's careful and meticulous planning of each room and hand-selected piece, Goga provides guests with enhanced comfort through bright and contemporary spaces. To reach the upper deck, guests will find an alluring central stairway in the midst of elegant interior and exterior dining areas and the main saloon. Goga provides an expansive, open plan space that leads onto a foredeck area with a pool and more seating.

Up one more level is the owner’s cabin, with its own private terrace with a large sundeck just above. Guests can enjoy an uninterrupted, 360 degree view through glass that spans the entirety of the main lounge and outdoor terraces.

With an al fresco dining space dubbed as "fun island", guests can enjoy dining and lounging right by the water's edge, with huge, comfortable stairs to enter it whenever they please. In terms of accomodation, there are two further double cabins on the lower deck, bringing the total number of guest cabins to seven.

There is total separation of guests and crew, with all crew and service areas concentrated on the lower deck; granting guests the pleasure of full privacy.

A garage and huge beach club can also be found below, with tenders and toy storage dedicated. The beach area also offers a shower, sauna and laundry as well as space to store furniture and other items when guests desire to relax at sea level. Al Waab No stranger to opulence, Al Waab’s décor bears a stunning, gold wall installation, with integrated crystals that elegantly dress the stairwell and all three decks. Glass also appears to be a key feature, resulting in uninterrupted sight lines, creating a smooth, glacial pace for guests when moving between spaces.

Glass bulwarks provide uninterrupted outboard views and large outdoor areas for guests to enjoy the vistas in a secluded, plush setting. With a drop-down bulwark in the main dining area, the idea of a traditional dining room vanishes completely, complimented by a stunning alfresco breakfast space – just two metres above the water on the starboard deck. Her sprawling beach club in the stern is another highlight, along with a jacuzzi forward of the owner’s stateroom.

The use of virtual reality was also implemented early on in the project to optimise the space planning and ergonomic layout. Open-plan, owner-centric general arrangements are guaranteed to create a true sense of freedom for all onboard, sleeping up to 18 guests for both owners and guests.

Rare for a 499GT yacht, she includes a lavish split-level master suite on the upper deck with a private 4m pool on the foredeck. By placing the tender bay in a sunken deck in the bow, the tenders are easily accessible yet hidden from view. The grated ‘tween deck arrangement provides storage for two tenders, a pair of jet skis, and other water toys and amenities.

Much of the living and seating areas are outward facing, sketched with the sentiment of letting owners form an intimate, unforgettable connection with the sea. Bold Bold's interior boasts a seamless blend of luxury and practicality, offering a sleek range of oak and teak, accompanied by metallic painted features and oak and marble flooring, all centred around an extravagant sky lounge. Accommodating 12 guests in 8 luxury cabins, including an owner’s suite, 3 VIP cabins and 4 double guest cabins, while a further 13 cabins can allow a crew of over 20 onboard the Lower Deck, she is plentiful in room.

On her top deck, Bold features additional, expansive party spaces, including a secluded jacuzzi and 2,700-litre, glistening spa pool alongside a cosy firepit and equipment to set up and indulge in your own private cinema.

For owners who find joy in entertaining, look no further than the main banqueting space – complete with a bar, serving stations, two rotisseries and an induction hob, all to satisfy any guest's culinary needs.

The aft section of the Bridge Deck also features removable railings that allow space for a second helicopter, but perhaps what is most impressive, is the winter garden located on the Owner's Deck. When unveiled, this tranquil space acts as a large terrace, open to the sea breeze and breath-taking panoramic views of the water. The 300 sqm interior loft is designed to feel like a New York loft apartment and uniquely brings everyone together in a modern, open plan space with full height windows. Perhaps most dramatic is the contrast between the interior spaces and utilitarian exterior spaces – especially when viewed from the wintergarden.

Bold's aft deck opens up to a 400sqm multi-purpose open space capable of storing large tenders, sailboats, cars or submarines – a feature very few yachts can match. With a full wall LED screen and impressive sound system in the heli hanger, this space can be used for a movie, disco or an indoor/outdoor gym.

Monaco Yacht Show: 7 Yacht Interiors That Will Steal the Show

By Nicole Trilivas

Room on yacht with intricate blue stone flooring and walls

Running from September 28 through October 1, the Monaco Yacht Show is the highlight of the global boat show circuit. This year’s edition promises to deliver plenty of buzzy debuts, headline-making yacht news, and high-design highlights. There are several new additions to this year’s event in Port Hercules including a sustainability hub and a gadget- and gizmo-filled adventure area , packed with new water toys and flashy supercars —it is Monaco , after all.

For denizens of design, the Yacht Design & Innovation Hub is returning for a second year, with presentations, galleries, and exhibits by yacht architects and designers. But, of course, the big boats steal the show. With yacht interiors that range from the classically nautical to the budget-blowing bonkers, these are the superyachts to have on your radar at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show.

An oversized chandelier defines the space in the informal dining room aboard Ahpo .

Lürssen, Ahpo

All eyes will be on the whopping 377-feet Ahpo , by Lürssen, when it debuts this year at the Monaco Yacht Show as the largest yacht in the port. Venice-based exterior and interior designer Nuvolari Lenard added plenty of personality and luxury to the vessel with oversized crystal light features, a hammam made of mosaics in the massive wellness area, and a grand staircase at the center of the yacht, crafted to resemble an olive tree.

Blue accents channel the traditional nautical aesthetic.

Feadship, Rock.It

The 198-foot Rock.It is not short on style: Gleaming wood panels with creamy white leather inlays feature throughout; glowing white onyx contrasts with rich black Portoro marble; and the well-dressed owner’s cabin rivals the top suite of an old-world European hotel with a warm wood study and bathroom with a claw-footed tub. The refined design can be attributed to the Netherlands with Dutch shipyard Feadship behind the build and Dutch design studio Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design taking on the interiors.

Modern and laid-back, Come Together is effortlessly cool.

Amels, Come Together

Built in the Netherlands by Amels with interiors by London-based Winch Design, the 197-foot Come Together has soft and laid-back beach-y vibes with a dose of Southern California cool. Elements like bleached oaks, woven linen fabrics, cabinetry with natural coconut shell, and hair-on-hide leathers all unite to bring the natural world aboard this chic ship.

Crisp and clean, the interiors of Be Cool are to-the-point in a refreshing way.

Swan 98, Be Cool

There’s a fleet of around a dozen large sailing yachts on display at this year’s yacht show in the dedicated Sailing Yacht Area. One of the most notable new launches of the bunch is Swan 98 Be Cool  by Finnish shipyard Nautor’s Swan. The clean and crisp interior hull design by Genovese architect Misa Poggi embraces graceful nautical style and Scandinavian practicality with navy linen and cotton fabrics, dark oak, and handsome tobacco-hued leather.

Outfitted in cool and calm shades of white with rattan finishes and eucalyptus veneers, Kokomo is both on-trend and a complete classic.

The glass-bottom pool is a highlight of the yacht.

Abeking & Rasmussen, B2

One of the largest vessels currently on the market, the 281-foot B2 by German yard Abeking & Rasmussen, will be showing off an ultra-chic over-$4-million interior refit just completed in July at this year’s show. Sprawling out over five decks, Winch Design has curated a serene floating sanctuary of indoor-outdoor living, the highlight of which is the main deck’s glass-bottom pool, stationed above the light-filled beach club lounge with fold-down balconies that extend the living space right to the water’s edge.

With dark wood, tubular steel accents, and black furnishings, the interiors of State of Grace could be described as a nautical take on the Bauhaus aesthetic.

Perini Navi, State of Grace

State of Grace by Italy’s Perini Navi is a gorgeous high-performance sailing sloop. It’s picture-perfect with polished teak decks, an ocean-blue hull, and billowing white sails. Inside is a study in midcentury-modern elegance with a split-level saloon and a spacious and full-beam owner’s suite with a hammam shower.

The Most Luxurious Yachts’ Interior Design

Stepping onto a luxurious yacht is similar to stepping into a realm where grandeur and sophistication meld seamlessly. The interior design of these opulent vessels is akin to a masterpiece, transforming spaces into sanctuaries of lavishness and ease. As the art of yacht design continues to evolve, trends in interior aesthetics are shaping a new horizon of luxury on the waves. From plush textures to groundbreaking technology, the universe of luxury yachts’ interior design stands as a testament to human creativity and a salute to life’s finer pleasures.

luxurious yacht

The Elegance of Eternity

Timeless elegance is the beating heart of many luxurious yacht’s interior designs. The amalgamation of classic facets, such as opulent woods, sumptuous fabrics, and intricate detailing, weaves an ambience reminiscent of opulent estates from the past . Majestic chandeliers cast a gentle glow over tables adorned with intricate place settings, and inviting sofas draped in silk beckon guests to recline in utmost comfort. These interiors pay homage to the splendour of days gone by while embracing the demands and desires of modern-day seafarers.

The Contemporary Chic: Minimalism at its Best

While some yachts exude classical grandeur, others embrace a modern, minimalist aesthetic that emanates sophistication. Clean lines, sleek surfaces, and a subdued colour palette set the tone for these interiors. The emphasis is on creating a sense of openness and serenity, with meticulous attention to both utility and design. State-of-the-art technology seamlessly harmonises with the aesthetic, offering passengers a glimpse of the future. From intelligent lighting systems to entertainment hubs that merge seamlessly into the design, these yachts are a haven of contemporary design, where every element is purposeful, and every detail meaningful.

Craftsmanship Beyond Compare and Personalisation

At the pinnacle of luxury yacht interior design lies the meticulous craftsmanship and bespoke personalisation that elevate these spaces into sanctuaries of exclusivity. From meticulously carved furnishings to tailor-made art installations, each nuance is a tribute to individuality. Yacht owners and designers collaborate with masterful artisans from Ippokampos to manifest their unique visions. Exquisite materials, intricate marquetry, and unparalleled finishes metamorphose cabins into havens of personal expression. This level of attention to detail not only reflects the owner’s taste but also transforms the yacht’s interior into an artistic triumph.

Fluid Indoor-Outdoor Synergy

The allure of a yacht resides not only within its interiors but also in the boundless expanse of the open sea. Current trends in luxury yacht interior design prioritise the seamless union of indoor and outdoor realms. Sliding glass doors dissolve barriers, allowing guests to transition effortlessly from resplendent interiors to expansive decks. Alfresco dining spaces, bedecked with elegant seating arrangements and inviting tables, beckon passengers to relish meals while surrounded by the majesty of the ocean. This synergy between spaces creates an immersive journey that blurs the boundary between the yacht’s interior and its natural habitat.

Harmonising with Nature: Embracing Sustainability

In recent years, a wave of sustainability has swept through yacht interior design. Eco-conscious yachts incorporate renewable materials, energy-efficient lighting, and advanced waste management systems. These vessels embody the evolving ethos within the realm of luxury yachting, where reverence for the environment harmoniously intertwines with the pursuit of luxury.

Luxury Yacht Interior Design: Seafaring Style at Its Best

by ELYSE GLICKMAN

April 15, 2020

Scott Pearson

Experts share how to make a yacht’s below-deck, yacht interior design stream-lined, safe and totally “see-worthy.”

A yacht is a second home on the high seas, so you may as well enhance your in-vestment by “decking” out your luxury yacht interior design in style. However, it will take an accomplished specialized yacht interior designer to personalize your space while maximizing its constraints. Furthermore, it’s also important to bolster your floating second home’s foundation with function and a high level of safety, given that it is in the always-in-motion water.

“It’s critical to start with an architectural design that suits your wants, passions and the person you are,” says Theresa Rasmussen, who serves as the Windstar Cruise Line ‘s marine hotel superintendent, and is responsible for ensuring the ships are designed to feel like private yachts while retaining strict safety standards.

“Regardless of the size of your craft, beautiful and functional vessels should be well thought-out and planned with somebody you trust.”

“Once you have your canvas, the design elements should spin into the thread that weaves it all together, from floor plan and furnishings, to fabrics and finishing. Regardless of the size of your craft, beautiful and functional vessels should be well thought-out and planned with somebody you trust.”

Rasumssen suggests first surveying your lifestyle and thinking about how you want to use each space on the yacht. For example, will your yacht be used primarily for entertaining friends or traveling with young children? “Knowing how you will use your boat will greatly impact the overall design,” she says.

Design decisions will also be affected by the climate where you dock, and if you sail in warm water versus cold water. This lends itself to whole, all-encompassing cabin design trends for consideration, whether your taste tends towards bright, tropical and breezy, sleek and urbane, or cozy.

Of course, the confined space of a boat makes all design decisions that much more challenging. “A smart designer with maritime experience, and who knows the industry, can help you to consider where functionality can lend itself to an open concept,” says Rasmussen. “It’s really about mapping out your concept in advance and being focused on what activities you expect to do in each of the spaces.”

Like Rasmussen, Michael Merritt, CEO of Ohio-based Merritt Woodwork observes that burl veneer, gold accents, and traditional nautical appointments and motifs are on the decline among his yacht clients, while simplicity and clean lines are on the rise. “Designs are now leaning towards overtones of Asian and Zen-like details,” he says. “Warm and inviting designs are trending, and we’re seeing judicious use of specialty finishes and occasional aspects of glamour that won’t overpower the interior of the boat.”

How interior space is used, meanwhile, oftentimes mimics what would be found in a yacht owner’s home on land, according to Merritt. While the boat interior needs the basic formatting of accommodations for the owner and guest, themed rooms and specific-function rooms are the norm today. Beauty salons, spas, steam rooms, saunas, an underwater observation deck, theater room, and even cellars for wine and whiskey collections are just some examples. The lifestyle aspect also runs through to the outdoor decks, as does the use of more contemporary materials.

“Outdoor spaces continue to move to the use of alternative and, at times, unconventional materials and surfaces,” says Merritt. “Where wood was once the norm, today we find extensive use of resins, stone, composites, carbon fiber, decorative glass and metal. While the color palette continues to be off-white or some shades of beige or gray, we do see the occasional loud pop of color.”

This fall, Miami-based MidnightExpress launches a new 60-foot model  yacht with the largest center console in the world. CEO Eric Glaser affirms the original objective was to create a sport boat with yacht-inspired cabin that screams, “This is the future.” Although this yacht is built for sport and speed, its interiors (incorporating two master suites, a full couch, and galley) are conceptualized by Italian designer and naval architect Giuseppina Arena to be a luxury living space in the truest sense. Every boat begins as a “light gray canvas” that she and the client can customize, from accent colors and electronics down to the seat placement and upholstery stitching.

“High-gloss, shiny wood finishes are out, as is use of teak and other dark woods except as accents.”

“ Our 60-foot Pied-a-Mer yacht is a perfect canvas to introduce new types of surfaces, veneers, wallpapers, wood flooring, indoor-outdoor fabrics and paint colors for continuity between the cabin and exterior of the boat,” details Glaser.

“Customized models may include stone countertops in the galley hollowed out and reinforced with honeycomb, digital blackout windows, and adjustable LED lighting. High-gloss, shiny wood finishes are out, as is use of teak and other dark woods except as accents.”

Glaser points out another distinctive design feature that taps into the trend leaning towards the feel of more open space: Putting as many windows as possible (23) so they meld into the structural lines of the boat, cutting the glass in such a way that most of the wall space is window. Better still, the owner can hit a switch to darken the room at night rather than using blinds.

Safety always informs the interior and exterior of a boat’s design. According to Rasmussen, ships have the second-highest regulations for fire protection after aircraft, as a ship itself is an escape route. All fabrics and carpets should ideally pass IMO (International Maritime Organization) regulations.

Guillaume Plisson

Merritt, meanwhile, points out that safety is critical in yacht builds and various codes, and registries and classifications need to be met. Safety devices such as horns and sensors, while visually disturbing, can artfully be recessed or hidden to keep the canvas clear of strong obstructions. Watertight doors are also key safety features that can readily be blended into the landscape of the interior. The main staircase is not only a requirement to connect the upper and lower decks, but can be a design centerpiece of a vessel.

Although not designers, Sean Blue (Global Head of Watercraft) and Carl Lessard (Yacht Loss Prevention Specialist) of AIG , one of the largest insurers of yachts and mega yachts, are up on many of the latest boat design trends out of necessity. They are equipped to advise high net-worth clients on how to protect and outfit their floating assets.

Klaus Jordan

“We see a variety of tastes, ranging from minimalist layouts to more classical yacht styles, and we also see more integrated tech elements such as video panels and smart wireless features that can change the room to your liking, from music to temperature as well as automation to control the various functions of the yacht,” says Blue, who cites boat builders  Feretti  and Azimut  for being ahead of the design curve. “Implementation of additional windows, as building techniques become a little more sophisticated, are becoming much more common; including bringing windows closer to the yacht’s waterline to let light into spaces down below.”

As far as prized possessions like artwork, the recommendation is to leave them on dry land. “It may make sense to have a reproduction of a favorite piece on the boat, and keep the priceless original version back on land,” Lessard says. “One growing trend I have noticed is having a masterpiece the client owns reproduced. Polaroid came out with a technology about 15 years ago that can reproduce a painting down to the smallest strokes and cracks. For those who bring the real pieces on board, security (from theft) is an issue, as is damage from water and fire.”

Common sense dictates that certain treasures remain in one’s primary residence, However, a yacht customized in collaboration with the right interior designer should ultimately be an enduring work of art in its own right…even with all of the necessary safety factors built into the framework. Like a good canvas or sculpture, it should not only reflect the owner’s sense of style and adventure, but also his commitment to quality and living life to the fullest, no matter which way the wind blows or the water flows.

Rising to the Surface

Formica  laminates are not just for land galleys anymore. In fact, the company’s latest coverings provide added form and function to the kitchen and bath areas on board, while weaving in nature-inspired color, texture, and sophistication in keeping with the current boat interior design trends.

Stone Panel USA brings the good Earth to the high seas with their natural stone panels engineered to withstand the unpredictability of oceans and other waterways. The company’s secret lies in its honeycombed backing, which lightens each panel and allows it to flex under stress. They can also be backlit for a dramatic effect.

Corian  lends itself to Interior design that’s more informed by modern art with its wide spectrum of colors and textures.  While this material is resilient enough to endure the rigors of sun, salt, and wind, it is also easy to care for, and when properly cleaned, will thwart the growth of mold and mildew. The material can be used for wall cladding, display cases, stateroom vanities and shower surrounds, galleys, and gyms.

luxurious yacht interior

INTERIOR DESIGN is a multi-faceted profession in which creative and technical solutions are applied within a structure to achieve a built interior environment. These solutions are functional, enhance the quality of life and culture of the occupants, and are aesthetically attractive.

INTERIOR DESIGNER implies that there is more of an emphasis on Planning, Functional design and effective use of space involved in this profession, as compared to interior decorating. An Interior Designer can undertake projects that include arranging the basic layout of spaces within a building as well as projects that require an understanding of technical issues such as acoustics, lighting, temperature, etc. Although an Interior Designer may create the layout of a space, they may not build the space without having their designs stamped for approval by an architect, which is why many Interior Designers also complete school to become architects as well. An Interior Designer may wish to specialize in a particular type of interior design in order to develop technical knowledge specific to that area. Types of interior design include residential design, commercial design, universal design, exhibition design, spatial branding, etc.

Enhancing the Comfort and Functionality

The enhancement of comfort and functionality is of utmost importance in the interior design of a yacht . It is crucial to consider the following factors in order to achieve this goal:

Ergonomic furniture placement: To optimize the flow of movement and ensure ease of access and navigation, strategic positioning of furniture such as sofas , chairs , and beds is essential.

Ample storage space: Clever and innovative storage solutions should be incorporated, including hidden compartments and built-in cabinets, to ensure that belongings can be neatly organized. This will help minimize clutter and maximize the available space.

Optimized spatial planning: Careful consideration should be given to the layout and arrangement of different areas within the yacht. Sufficient space should be allocated for each function, such as living areas, bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchens, to ensure that they are functional and comfortable.

Adequate lighting: Lighting design plays a crucial role in enhancing both comfort and functionality. A well-balanced combination of ambient, task, and accent lighting should be incorporated to create a well-lit and inviting atmosphere. This will also provide appropriate lighting for specific activities and areas.

Acoustic insulation: To ensure a comfortable and peaceful environment, it is important to implement proper acoustic insulation . This will help reduce noise transmission from both the yacht’s interior and external sources, facilitating a relaxing and undisturbed atmosphere.

By taking these factors into consideration, yacht interior designers can create a luxurious space that not only looks visually appealing but also prioritizes the comfort and functionality of its occupants. The ultimate aim is to provide an environment where individuals can relax, socialize, and carry out daily activities with ease and satisfaction.

Creating a Luxurious Atmosphere

Creating a luxurious atmosphere is the primary goal when it comes to yacht interior design. It is crucial to focus on incorporating elements that contribute to the overall ambiance and opulence of the yacht. Here are some important considerations to keep in mind when aiming to create a luxurious atmosphere:

  • Utilize high-end materials : Take advantage of premium materials like fine leather , marble , and polished wood to elevate the overall feel and experience of the yacht’s interior.
  • Incorporate elegant lighting design : Integrate statement lighting fixtures that exude glamour and create a warm, inviting ambiance.
  • Opt for plush furnishings : Choose luxurious and comfortable furniture pieces that are upholstered in sumptuous fabrics, ensuring an extravagant experience for all guests.
  • Select a sophisticated color palette : Enhance the space with sophisticated and rich colors such as deep blues , rich browns , and elegant creams , adding depth and elegance to every corner.
  • Pay meticulous attention to detail: Ensure every aspect, from decorative accessories to intricate trimmings, receives meticulous attention to create a sense of refinement and luxury.

By combining all of these elements, you can successfully cultivate a sense of opulence and extravagance, ultimately creating an unforgettable luxurious atmosphere on board the yacht.

Considerations for Yacht Interior Design

Designing the interior of a yacht is a thrilling endeavor that requires careful thought and attention to detail. In this section, we’ll explore the key considerations that play a crucial role in achieving a luxurious setup. From spatial planning and material selection to lighting design, color palettes, and furniture choices, we’ll uncover the secrets behind creating a yacht interior that exudes elegance and sophistication. Get ready to embark on a journey through the world of yacht interior design and discover the art of crafting a truly breathtaking space.

Spatial Planning and Layout

Spatial planning and layout are fundamental aspects of yacht interior design, as they profoundly influence the functionality, flow, and aesthetics of the onboard spaces. Efficient utilization of the available space is crucial due to the limited square inches on a yacht. It is essential to incorporate smart storage solutions, like concealed compartments and multi-functional furniture, to maximize storage capacity while ensuring a tidy and organized interior.

When planning the layout, one must carefully consider the traffic flow throughout the yacht. Clear and unobstructed pathways should be created to facilitate easy navigation and prevent congestion, particularly in high-traffic areas such as hallways and communal spaces.

To optimize the interior design, it is important to establish distinct zones based on their intended use. By delineating spaces for relaxation, dining, socializing, and work , a well-organized and comfortable environment can be achieved on the yacht.

Balancing aesthetics and practicality is key. While visually appealing interiors are important, it is equally crucial that furniture and furnishings efficiently serve their intended purpose. Factors such as size, shape , and placement of furniture should be considered to ensure optimum usability and comfort .

Strategic placement of windows , mirrors , and other reflective surfaces can greatly enhance the perception of space and create a sense of openness. By harnessing natural light and maximizing panoramic views, seating and relaxation areas can be positioned to maximize the overall experience.

By carefully considering spatial planning and layout, yacht owners and designers can create interiors that are not only functional and aesthetically pleasing but also optimized for the limited space available onboard. This, in turn, provides passengers with a luxurious and comfortable experience.

Materials and Finishes Selection

When it comes to yacht interior design, the selection of materials and finishes is of utmost importance in order to create a luxurious and visually appealing space. Here are some key factors to keep in mind:

By meticulously considering materials and finishes, both yacht owners and designers can create a stunning and luxurious interior that meets aesthetic and functional requirements.

Lighting Design

When it comes to yacht interior design, lighting design plays a crucial role in creating the desired ambiance and enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal. Lighting design is an essential aspect that should be carefully considered when designing a yacht interior. Incorporating these lighting design elements will not only enhance the visual appeal of the yacht interior but also create a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for your guests. Here are some key considerations for lighting design in yacht interiors:

Remember, the lighting design should be tailored to suit the specific needs and preferences of the yacht owners, taking into account the overall aesthetic concept and functionality of the space. Incorporating these lighting design elements will not only enhance the visual appeal of the yacht interior but also create a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for your guests.

Color Palette

The color palette is a crucial element in yacht interior design as it establishes the overall mood and ambiance of the space. By carefully choosing the right colors, one can create a luxurious and visually appealing atmosphere onboard. Here is a breakdown of the considerations for selecting a color palette:

By carefully considering all these factors, designers can create a visually stunning and harmonious color palette for the yacht interior, enhancing the overall luxury and making it a truly remarkable space.

Furniture and Furnishings

  • Choose furniture and furnishings that are designed specifically for yacht interiors. Yachts have limited space and unique design requirements, so it’s important to select furniture and furnishings that are proportionate to the available space and can withstand the conditions of the marine environment.
  • Opt for lightweight and compact furniture and furnishings. Yachts are constantly in motion, so it’s essential to choose furniture and furnishings that are lightweight and can be securely fastened to the yacht’s structure. This ensures safety and prevents furniture and furnishings from shifting or causing damage during rough seas.
  • Select furniture and furnishings that are durable and resistant to moisture. Yachts are exposed to high levels of humidity, saltwater, and sun, which can accelerate wear and tear. Look for furniture and furnishings made from materials such as marine-grade stainless steel, teak, or synthetic materials that are specifically designed to withstand these harsh conditions.
  • Consider the versatility of the furniture and furnishings. Yachts often have limited storage space, so selecting multi-functional pieces can help maximize space efficiency. Look for furniture and furnishings that double as storage, such as ottomans with hidden compartments or tables with built-in drawers.
  • Choose fabrics that are both stylish and practical. Yacht interiors should exude luxury and sophistication, but it’s important to select fabrics that are also resistant to fading, stains, and moisture. Opt for fabrics such as Sunbrella or marine-grade vinyl that are designed to withstand the marine environment.

Tips for a Luxurious Yacht Interior Design

When it comes to creating a luxurious yacht interior, it’s all about attention to detail and clever design choices. In this section, we’ll explore some invaluable tips that will elevate your yacht’s interior to the next level of sophistication. From incorporating high-quality materials and focusing on ergonomics and comfort, to utilizing clever storage solutions and creating a seamless indoor-outdoor connection, we’ve got you covered. Get ready to transform your yacht into a haven of luxury and style.

Incorporate High-Quality Materials

When it comes to yacht interior design, it is essential to incorporate high-quality materials naturally in order to create a luxurious and visually stunning space. Here are some reasons why:

  • Enhanced aesthetics: The use of high-quality materials such as fine wood, marble, and leather brings an unparalleled level of elegance and sophistication to the yacht’s interior. These materials have a timeless appeal and exude luxury.
  • Superior durability: Yachts are constantly exposed to harsh marine environments, including saltwater, sunlight, and high humidity. By choosing high-quality materials, you ensure that the interior surfaces can withstand these conditions without showing signs of wear and tear. For example, opting for marine-grade upholstery fabric guarantees longevity and resistance to fading.
  • Enhanced comfort: The use of high-quality materials contributes to the overall comfort of the yacht’s interior. Plush cushions, soft and luxurious fabrics, and ergonomic seating arrangements made from top-notch materials create a cozy and inviting atmosphere for both guests and crew.
  • Increased value: Incorporating high-quality materials significantly increases the value of the yacht. Potential buyers or charter guests are impressed by the attention to detail and superior craftsmanship, making the yacht more desirable in the marketplace.
  • Long-term cost savings: Although high-quality materials may require a higher initial investment, they often result in less maintenance and replacement in the long run. This leads to cost savings over time, as there is no constant need to repair or replace worn-out materials.

Incorporating high-quality materials is a crucial aspect of yacht interior design as it adds elegance, durability, comfort, value, and long-term cost savings to the overall yacht experience.

Focus on Ergonomics and Comfort

When designing the interior of a yacht, it is crucial to focus on ergonomics and comfort to ensure an enjoyable and relaxing experience for the passengers. Incorporating ergonomic design principles in the yacht’s interior not only maximizes functionality and efficiency but also enhances the comfort and ease of use for everyone on board. By considering the height and placement of furniture, the shape and size of seating areas, and the layout of essential amenities, designers can prioritize ergonomics and create a user-friendly environment.

Comfort is of paramount importance in yacht interior design. It is essential to select luxurious, high-quality materials that provide a pleasant tactile experience, such as plush upholstery and soft bedding. To promote relaxation and unwinding, ample seating and lounging areas should be provided. Additionally, the proper lighting, temperature control, and acoustics are crucial factors in creating a comfortable atmosphere.

Incorporating user-friendly features throughout the yacht’s interior is essential for ensuring ergonomics and comfort. This could include integrating smart technology to effortlessly control lighting, temperature, and entertainment systems. Cleverly designed storage solutions should also be incorporated to maximize space and keep belongings organized and easily accessible.

By prioritizing ergonomics and comfort, yacht owners can create a luxurious and enjoyable experience for themselves and their guests on board. It is worth noting that a well-designed yacht interior can significantly enhance the overall value and appeal of the yacht.

Utilize Clever Storage Solutions

  • Maximize space: Utilize clever storage solutions to make the best use of every inch of available space. This includes incorporating under-bed storage, built-in cabinets, and furniture with hidden storage compartments.
  • Organize with compartments: Make use of storage compartments and dividers to keep belongings organized and easily accessible. This can be done in drawers, closets, and cabinets to ensure items are neatly arranged.
  • Vertical storage: Take advantage of vertical space by installing shelves, racks, and hooks. This helps in utilizing unused wall space and prevents clutter on surfaces.
  • Foldable and collapsible items: Opt for foldable or collapsible furniture and accessories that can be easily stowed away when not in use. This includes foldable tables, chairs, and storage bins.
  • Hanging storage solutions: Incorporate hanging storage solutions, such as hanging organizers or shoe racks, to free up floor space and keep items off the ground.
  • Utilize unused spaces: Consider utilizing often overlooked spaces, such as the area under the stairs or the back of cabinet doors. These areas can be customized with storage solutions to maximize space.
  • Smart storage solutions: Enhance convenience by incorporating smart storage solutions, such as automated storage systems or motorized lifts, to access and store items more efficiently.
  • Labeling and categorizing: Implement labeling and categorizing systems to easily identify and locate items. This can be achieved by using storage bins, boxes, or tags.
  • Optimize storage for specific items: Customize storage solutions for specific items, such as wine bottles, sports equipment, or electronics, to ensure they have their designated spaces and are protected.

By utilizing clever storage solutions, you can maximize space, keep belongings organized, and create a clutter-free environment onboard your yacht. These storage solutions not only enhance functionality but also contribute to a luxurious atmosphere by ensuring a clean and well-maintained interior.

Pay Attention to Detail

Paying attention to detail is vital in yacht interior design as it is the small touches that can elevate the overall luxury and sophistication of the space.

  • Finishes and materials: It is essential to pay attention to detail and use high-quality finishes and materials to ensure a refined and elegant look. Choose luxurious fabrics, exquisite woods, and fine metals to create a visually stunning interior.
  • Hardware and fixtures: By paying attention to detail, you can make a significant difference in adding an extra layer of elegance. Carefully select door handles, faucets, lighting fixtures, and other decorative elements to showcase attention to detail.
  • Craftsmanship: To enhance the overall aesthetic appeal, emphasize fine craftsmanship throughout the interior design. Showcase intricate detailing in cabinetry, custom-made furniture, and handcrafted accents to demonstrate a commitment to quality and luxury.
  • Textiles and furnishings: When selecting textiles and furnishings, consider every detail. Incorporate luxurious fabrics such as silk or velvet with intricate patterns or textures to add richness and depth to the space. Ensure coordination of colors and patterns for a harmonious and visually pleasing environment.
  • Art and accessories: Attention to detail is crucial when including carefully curated art pieces, sculptures, and accessories. Thoughtfully place and display these items to add a personal touch and create focal points in the yacht interior, showcasing an eye for design and enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal.

By paying attention to detail in every aspect of yacht interior design, from finishes to furnishings, you can create a truly luxurious and visually captivating space that exceeds expectations.

Create a Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Connection

To effortlessly create a harmonious blend between the indoor and outdoor areas in yacht interior design, it is important to consider the following key points:

  • Open and spacious floor plan: Opt for a layout that promotes a smooth and unobstructed flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces. This can be achieved by eliminating barriers, such as walls, or by integrating sliding doors to seamlessly connect the interior with the exterior areas.
  • Combining design elements: Integrate design elements that seamlessly merge the indoor and outdoor spaces. Utilize similar color schemes, materials, and finishes to establish a cohesive and unified look.
  • Outdoor living spaces: Design outdoor areas that mirror the comfort and functionality of indoor spaces. Include comfortable seating, dining areas, and entertainment features to encourage occupants to spend quality time outdoors.
  • Optimize natural light: Incorporate large windows, skylights, or glass doors to flood the interior with natural light and provide unobstructed views of the outdoor environment. This not only enhances the sense of continuity between the two spaces but also creates a feeling of spaciousness.
  • Incorporate green elements: Blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces by seamlessly integrating plants and greenery into the interior design. Utilize potted plants, living walls, or even a small onboard garden.
  • Seamless flooring: Select flooring materials that seamlessly transition between interior and exterior areas, such as natural stone or hardwood. This ensures a smooth connection between the two spaces.

By carefully considering these aspects, one can achieve a yacht interior design that effortlessly connects the indoor and outdoor areas, resulting in a cohesive and enjoyable experience on board.

Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Design

Sustainable and eco-friendly design is becoming increasingly important in yacht interior design. With growing concerns about the environment and the need for sustainable practices, yacht owners and designers are focusing on creating interiors that minimize their impact on the planet. Here are some key aspects to consider when it comes to sustainable and eco-friendly design:

1. Use of sustainable materials: Opting for materials that are renewable, recycled, or have a low environmental impact is crucial. This can include using reclaimed wood, bamboo, cork, or recycled materials for furniture, flooring, and other interior elements.

2. Energy-efficient lighting: Incorporating energy-efficient LED lighting can significantly reduce the energy consumption of the yacht. Utilizing natural light through well-designed windows and skylights can also minimize the need for artificial lighting during the day.

3. Efficient HVAC systems: Installing high-efficiency heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems can help reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Proper insulation and ventilation design can also contribute to energy efficiency and indoor air quality.

4. Water conservation: Implementing water-saving fixtures, such as low-flow faucets and showers, and utilizing water treatment and recycling systems can help reduce water usage onboard.

5. Waste management: Developing efficient waste management systems onboard, including recycling and composting facilities, can minimize the environmental impact of the yacht.

By incorporating sustainable and eco-friendly design practices , yacht owners and designers can not only reduce their carbon footprint but also create beautiful and luxurious interiors that align with their environmental values.

True history: The growing demand for sustainable and eco-friendly design in yacht interior design is a response to the increasing awareness of the impact of human activities on the environment. Yacht owners and designers are recognizing the need to incorporate sustainable practices and materials to minimize their ecological footprint. This shift towards sustainability is driven by a desire to protect the planet and preserve it for future generations. There is a growing recognition of the role yachts play in marine ecosystems and the importance of minimizing the negative impact on the surrounding environment. As a result, sustainable and eco-friendly design has become a key consideration in the yacht industry, and designers are continuously finding innovative ways to create luxurious and sustainable interiors for yacht owners to enjoy while minimizing their environmental impact.

Open and Airy Layouts

Open and airy layouts are a fundamental element of yacht interior design, providing a profound sense of spaciousness and freedom on board. This design approach prioritizes the maximization of natural light, fostering an open flow, and utilizing lighter colors and materials to enhance the perception of airiness.

By incorporating open and airy layouts , yacht interiors can create a more welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. Ample natural light can be invited into the space by incorporating large windows or skylights, resulting in a brighter and more inviting ambiance. Additionally, the use of lighter colors for walls, flooring, and furnishings helps to reflect light, making the space appear more expansive.

The achievement of open and airy designs heavily relies on spatial planning and layout. Meticulous consideration of furniture placement is necessary to ensure optimal flow and maximize the perception of space. Designers can strategically position furniture and fixtures to create open pathways and minimize obstructions, thus enhancing the feeling of openness throughout the yacht interior.

When selecting materials and finishes for open and airy layouts, it is preferred to opt for lighter options. This includes the use of lighter woods, such as oak or maple, for cabinetry and flooring. Upholstery in lighter fabrics and finishes can also contribute to a brighter and more open ambiance.

Open and airy layouts have become a prevailing trend in yacht interior design. By maximizing natural light, utilizing lighter colors and materials, and implementing strategic spatial planning, designers can create a luxurious and inviting atmosphere on board. The incorporation of these design principles not only enhances the overall experience but also amplifies the enjoyment of the yacht.

Use of Organic and Natural Elements

When it comes to yacht interior design, the use of organic and natural elements is becoming increasingly popular. This design approach emphasizes the integration of natural materials and elements to create a harmonious and eco-friendly environment on board.

The use of organic and natural elements in yacht interior design promotes sustainability and a closer connection to nature. It enhances the overall aesthetic appeal and creates a serene and inviting atmosphere on board.

By embracing these elements, yacht owners can enjoy a luxurious and eco-conscious interior that showcases the beauty of the natural world.

Maximizing Natural Light

Maximizing natural light in yacht interior design is crucial for establishing an open and airy atmosphere. Here are some key considerations to bear in mind:

  • Window placement: Strategically position windows to allow maximum sunlight to enter the yacht’s interior. Opt for large windows and skylights to bring in as much natural light as possible.
  • Translucent materials: Incorporate translucent materials, such as sheer curtains or frosted glass, to diffuse the natural light throughout the space. This helps produce a soft and gentle lighting effect.
  • Mirrors and reflective surfaces: Place mirrors and other reflective surfaces strategically to bounce natural light around the yacht’s interior. This can help brighten up darker areas and create the illusion of a larger space.
  • Light color palette: Choose light-colored furnishings, finishes, and fabrics to reflect and amplify natural light. This can make the space feel brighter and more spacious.
  • Minimize obstructions: Avoid placing bulky furniture or elements that obstruct the flow of natural light. Opt for open and uncluttered layouts to enable light to penetrate throughout the space.

Maximizing natural light in yacht interior design not only enhances the aesthetics but also creates a welcoming and inviting atmosphere onboard. By incorporating these tips, you can make the most of the sun’s radiant glow and create a luminous and airy environment.
