Boat test: Linjett 39

Linjett 39

Step aboard and you’re confronted with a fairly standard cockpit layout; twin helms with stylish black wheels and beautifully laid teak. There are chartplotters and instruments set into the binnacles with repeaters further forward above the companionway. There is decent storage under the helmsman’s seats and very deep lockers forward of this. The main seating area in the cockpit is complemented by a substantial teak table with ample room for six. In terms of controls, all running rigging is led back to two banks of jammers that come out right next to the binnacles and then lead on to matching pairs of Andersen winches to port and starboard. Combine that with the self-tacking jib and you have a yacht that can be handled very easily by one person. Up forward the decks are uncluttered and dominated by the track for the self-tacking jib. Jib cars for the genoa are led well inboard and provide a good sheeting angle. The anchor locker is roomy with a well proportioned lazarette aft where you can stow a Code 0 or similar.

Linjett 39

Step below and you find yourself in a warmly lit space. There is a plethora of wood on show and the general ambience is very cosy. Double skylights plus large portlights set into the hull ensure plenty of light and nice views when sailing. There is an L-shaped galley to port with corian worktops and two fridges. Forward of this is a large seating area with beautifully crafted table.

Linjett 39

To starboard there is a well proportioned forward facing chart table, although there is the option to extend the bench seat and then have no seat at the chart table.

Linjett 39

The test took place just outside the Linjett yard, deep in the Stockholm archipelago. Although beautiful, this area presents very distinct challenges as it’s rather like lake sailing with shifts and lifts all over the place. We sailed in about 8-15kn of wind and totally flat water and the area lived up to its reputation, presenting us with big shifts and unpredictable gusts and lulls blowing between islands and funelling down channels. The Linjett proved itself to be a lively performer for a big boat; close winded and sensitive, with decent amounts of acceleration and the ability to ghost through the puffs. The boat was not overly tender and the big rudder provided more than adequate grip and decent feel that made the somewhat intuitive sailing you have to do in this area a pleasure. With the kite up and breeze freshening, we sailed very high in order to avoid a submerged rock while also getting hit by an extra strong puff of breeze. Despite the boat being palpably overloaded, the rudder maintained grip and although we half broached, there was always a surprising element of control. All in all, the boat was fun and far from sedate – much closer to an Arcona than a blue water heavyweight in the Najad/Hallberg Rassy mode.

Linjett 39

Family performance cruiser.

Fantastic sailing performance, open plan living and great entertaining spaces: yes, it is an equation that actually adds up in this 39ft performance cruiser. Yet space doesn’t come at the cost of speed. The innovative bulkhead structure of the yacht allows for an extremely airy saloon despite the slender exterior. Linjett 39 - where innovative function meets finesse, with clever solutions that make life onboard a little bit more comfortable and a lot simpler. She is a modern and luxurious cruiser for the entire family to meet and enjoy.

Yacht Design: Linjett Design Team, inc.  Oscar Södergren

Exterior Design

With a higher coach roof and freeboards, she has sharper lines and a more timeless silhouette than her Linjett sisters, yet retains the slender signature waterline that has become synonymous with the yard. During the design process a lot of effort was put into finding solutions that simplify the sailing and managing of the yacht: all ropes and control lines run below deck back to the helm station allowing the boat to be sailed shorthanded. It also keeps the cockpit clean and open – perfect for the crew members who prefer to take a more passive role.

L39_Render_301020.88 edit.jpg

Interior Design

Open plan living: thanks to an innovating bulk head solution the flow of the cockpit is allowed to continue into the open and airy salon, which is timeless, yet cosy. Linjett 39 is a yacht to live and socialize in with plenty of social areas, a spacious head and full headroom all the way forward into the owner’s cabin. The three large portholes providing ample natural light to the interior are perfectly aligned with the horizon blurring the lines between inside and outside.

T oday’s new designs are invariably variations on a common theme. Happily they tend to sail better than earlier designs, while also offering more accommodation volume. But are other approaches to yacht design viable today?

The Rosättra Boatyard, 90 minutes north of Stockholm, definitely believes there are better options. The firm, which has only had one change of family ownership since it was founded in 1886, introduced the Linjett range of cruiser racers in 1973.

Today it quietly produces 10-15 performance cruisers a year across a three-model range from 34-43ft. The yard also enjoys outstanding customer loyalty, looking after 220 Linjetts every winter – a quarter of all boats built since the range’s inception. The small production numbers of new yachts means design and tooling costs must be amortised over a long period – each model is expected to remain in production for up to 15 years. Together these factors foster a long-term mindset, and the promise a boat that won’t date as quickly as more mainstream offerings.

The Linjett 39 is the latest model and, like the rest of the range, was designed in house. From a distance it has echoes of classic early 1990s designs such as Stephen Jones’ excellent Sadler Starlight 39. However closer up, and especially once you start sailing, it’s very clear this is a more contemporary design in many respects, with performance and handling to match.

TESTED BY Rupert Holmes

LOCATION La Rochelle

WIND 5-16 knots

SEA STATE slight

I have long believed light airs performance is a good test of a thoroughbred design. The Linjett’s hull has plenty of curvature on the fore and aft rocker shape and, without maximum beam carried right aft, can be surprisingly quick in light airs. This translates to less time spent under power, bringing forward the blissful moment when the engine can be switched off.

Immediately after leaving La Rochelle’s Port Des Minimes marina we hoisted the main, deployed the furling nylon cruising gennaker and sailed out of the narrow channel at decent speeds despite having just 7-8 knots true breeze.

IMPRESSIVE NUMBERS

We headed upwind with the 107% jib and made a useful 4.7 knots boat speed, which reduced to 3.8 when the wind eased to 5 knots. There are not many yachts with displacement close to 9 tonnes that match these numbers.

Best family yacht: our pick of the best yachts for sailing with the family

  • Toby Hodges
  • March 7, 2024

Toby Hodges takes a look at all the nominees and the winner of the best family yacht category in the European Yacht of the Year Awards

There are many categories in the European Yacht of the Year awards, from the  best luxury yachts  to  performance yachts . But some of the most hotly-anticipated options come when it is time to choose the nominees and winner in the best family yacht category.

The European Yacht of the Year awards are selected by a broad panel of expert judges from across the globe. These are people who spend their professional lives sailing and comparing yachts, so you can be certain that the yachts which stand out in this field are truly the best of the best on the market for those looking to set out with the whole family in tow.

A crop of the latest 35-45ft mainstream production yachts, including the ultra spacious Dufour 41 and the smaller sister to the award-winning Hanse 460, plus a couple of less well known yachts, made for a dynamic grouping this year when it comes to picking the best family yachts 2024.

In this, the most competitive size bracket for volume production yachts, there was plenty to like, but two models stood out: the RM and the Bavaria. The former because it’s different and fills an interesting niche that crosses fast cruising with family sailing, from coastal and shoal draught to bluewater sailing ability; the Bavaria because it masters that mix of deck and interior space, performance and handling in a well finished package.

Winner of the best family yacht 2024 – Bavaria C46

The Bavaria and Cossutti Yacht Design relationship continues to flourish and produce standout results in its second generation. The C46’s modern, full shape brings vast deck and accommodation space yet manages to do so on a hull which really performs for its size, and rewards the helmsman with direct feedback.

During my trial we had a good mix of conditions and were able to push the boat, a voluminous hull which becomes reactive once the breeze threatens double figures. We were able to press it during a rain squall, hitting 12 knots in 18 under gennaker, and maintained lengthy double digit spells during some enjoyable sporty sailing. Bear in mind this is a single-rudder boat, yet it still didn’t overpower or lose its grip. It’s impressive, especially given the exceptionally low ballast ratio (20%), which shows the reliance on form stability.

“The chine is a bit higher than the C42 and we tried to make the wetted surface as small as possible,” Maurizio Cossutti told me during our trial. The keel is also comparatively lighter, slimmer and deeper for a sporty feel. It’s clear the German yard has really poured its engineering energy and might into this build – from design to engineering to finish quality, the perceived richness of the C46 stands out (although dressed with over €200,000 of options, this is still no mean feat in a mass production size and brand). So much so that other big yards may struggle to compete.

You could argue the Dufour 41 does that to some extent, but here the emphasis is slightly more skewed towards volume, while it doesn’t quite match the Bavaria for the overall engineering and finish quality. Felci somehow managed to swell the forward sections enough to allow the Dufour to be the first 40-footer to offer four cabins, including two doubles forward. We then learned in September that Dufour had signed a new contract to supply Sunsail charter yachts, which helps explain the draw of all this extra accommodation space.

The price for this is extra weight. Although equipped with a tall rig, the 41 only becomes reactive once the breeze is up to the mid teens, where it can lean onto a chine and employ its generous form stability. But for those after volume, max deck lounging space and a bright spacious interior for multiple guests, it’s a hard model to compete with at this size (full report in YW September 2023 and online).

On paper the Hanse 410 should perhaps have challenged the Bavaria more. It’s the latest in Hanse’s new collaboration with Berret-Racoupeau, follows on from the larger sister 460 which won this category in 2022, and shares that appealing modern hull shape. It showed respectable performance and figures, and proved easy to manage short-handed, thanks to the self-tacking jib and winches positioned to hand.

A halyard issue with the mainsail and a tangled sock for the kite curtailed my sail trials somewhat. We also found the cockpit quite busy, particularly the winch layout, although it is nice and deep for protecting its crew. It makes you query why you need two tables on a 40-footer – until you see them lowered to create sun beds, that is!

Stand out features from the interior were the number of stowage solutions, particularly on the two-cabin test boat. Offered as two or three cabins with one or two heads, the former provides a huge amount of stowage accessible from the cockpit or interior. There’s more in the galley and a multifunction space in the saloon, which can be a full length sofa berth, a proper chart table, or a standing desk with storage below.

Beneteau Oceanis 37.1

The Beneteau Oceanis 37.1 is also all about easy sailing and handling, and proved to be a fun, manageable sized cruiser, particularly the First Line option we tried, which increases sail area with a square-top main and flat deck furler. While certainly an accessible yacht, it perhaps comes across as a little basic. This is the last Oceanis in the new generation eight-boat range between 30ft and 60ft, so the focus is more on evolution than the revolution of its early predecessors. Hence the two- or three-cabin interior seemed a little unremarkable when viewed against the opposition.

The same could not be said for the RM 1380, particularly when you step down the companionway – which doesn’t really feel like going below decks on a conventional monohull as it’s so naturally bright in the raised saloon and helps you appreciate your surroundings. So much so it’s more like being on a multihull. The doorways are a little tight, but the double cabins are of good size thanks in part to the generous beam. The standard two-cabin layout has a practical utility space in place of the optional third cabin.

I’ve long appreciated the plywood epoxy technique RM uses for its hulls, together with the powerful form stability Lombard’s design brings. This comes with the choice of keels, including the shoal draught options of a lifting centreboard or efficient twin keels. We tried the latter and the result on the water is in keeping with the sporty looks: it’s an enjoyable mid-displacement cruiser to sail from the aft quarters. Then there’s the superb winch layout, which sees the primaries positioned inboard for use standing under the protection of the coachoof and sprayhood. For offshore sailing the open transom can be closed off with a platform. It’s not perfect, but the RM is intriguing and versatile.

Elan Impression 43

Another memorable interior is to be found on the Elan Impression 43. The rustic knotted oak finish is unique, the only option Elan offers and something the Slovenian yard wanted style gurus Pininfarina to maintain to identify it from the sportier ranges. Personally, I like the strong focus on timber as it helps showcase Elan’s heritage, but appreciate it won’t suit all tastes.

These mid size Impressions are the mainstay of Elan’s sailing range, the family and charter staples for the Med. This Humphreys-designed update has a modernised shape, but retains the older style and the hull rocker to keep a soft, smooth sailing experience. It’s rigged with a genoa or self tacker and two to four winches. Although somewhat unremarkable in terms of sailing performance, it fits its purpose, while the increased aft beam allows for larger aft cabins and a service tunnel between them.

In an age where we need to focus on making things last, my preconceptions of the Maxus 35 revolved around questioning the need for a lower budget Polish build. Why not just buy a proven second-hand yacht? That said, the Northman shipyard has done a respectable job on this, the largest Maxus yet, in terms of the build and finish for the price. It feels solid throughout, the interior is light and inviting and it is worth consideration as an entry level yacht with reasonable accommodation.

I can also see some appeal of the centreboard design for lake sailing. However there was little to take home with regards to the design or sailing experience, so my conclusions mirror my first thoughts.Best family yacht 2023

Best family yacht 2023

Best family yacht winner – linjett 39.

This is quite possibly the best boat you haven’t heard of. The 39 offers easy, fast family cruising and occasional racing in luxurious comfort and proves that classic needn’t be old fashioned.

Linjett exudes Scandi heritage: a third generation 50-year-old brand, it’s run by three brothers and has built 900 yachts from its Rosättra yard in Sweden, which dates from to the 19th Century. Its business model is based on long production runs – think evergreen rather than trendy. Linjett not only designs, engineers and builds its own boats, but services and maintains them too, with 220 in winter storage. It also now produces the high performance Shogun Yachts in carbon epoxy, which hints at the skill levels of its infusion techniques.

A telling result at sea is how quiet the yacht is. Sturdy and stable, it instils instant confidence and proved a delight to sail. We had some very pleasant upwind beats, pointing high, and some lively reaching, hitting double figures a few times while pushing it under 150m2 gennaker in waves. The Linjett is set up to easily short-hand it too, with two winches and a bank of clutches each side positioned aft in reach of the helm.

The interior is offered with two or three cabins and the latter we saw had an excellent layout, including separate shower/wet hanging compartment aft. Joiner work is first class, with traditional mahogany used as standard, or the more contemporary European Oak on the test boat.

This is a premium yacht, but you get what you pay for. It will surprise most and ensure everyone steps ashore smiling. See our full review next month.

The Dufour 37 may be shorter than the old 360, but Dufour was reluctant to brand this 37 as smaller because its modern, broadened hull shape has resulted in an enlarged deck space, cockpit and owner’s cabin. Felci has designed a clever hull that sails well with good performance for its (34ft) size. The aft quarters behind the helms feel compact to maximise cockpit size, but proved comfortable enough to sail from. The primaries are in reach of the helm and we liked the lightweight, low friction jib sheet adjusters.

The 37 is offered in Easy (two winch), Ocean (cruising), or Performance versions and with a two- or three- cabin layout. The test boat was the most popular Ocean model, although it had €100,000 worth of optional extras including sails, engine and bow thruster, resulting in an expensive yacht for its length.

For those who recognise the Bente name, we previously featured it in detail in 2015 when it burst onto the scene with an innovative and affordable new 24-footer (around 150 of which have been built in Poland). We then tested its 39 in 2019, a year before the yard then filed for bankruptcy. But it’s now back under new ownership with this really impressive and more refined Bente 28, again by Judel/Vrolijk.

It’s a fun yacht to sail, easy to short-hand, with sprightly performance, especially when reaching. The coachroof is part of the deck structure and proves crucial in providing light, space and headroom below in an ergonomic interior that has been very well thought out.

All in all it’s a great compact, entry-level cruiser, with a practical, well protected cockpit.

Boote aktuell: Linjett 39: first sailing pictures of the new cruising yacht from Sweden

The Linjett 39 was announced two years ago and now the shipyard has published the first sail pictures. The photos were taken during test sailing last autumn and show how clearly the 39 follows the current top model, the Linjett 43. In fact, the lines of the surface vessel have only been very carefully modernised. Only the increased freeboard compared to previous models indicates more interior volume. The 39 is a real novelty for the traditional Swedish shipyard; it was the first model in the Linjett series to be constructed together with designer Oscar Södergren as a hybrid of classic modelling and computer design.

Even though the shipyard was sailing with four men, the Linjett is actually optimised for small crews or single-handed sailing

All previous Linjetts were created with the help of hand-built models by shipyard senior Mats Gustafsson. Such a hull model was also the starting point for the 39. The lines were then digitised and further developed together with the son of the well-known designer Håkan Södergren. In this way, experience from the construction of the spectacular all-carbon racer Shogun 50 have been incorporated. The Linjett 39 has such a rigid hull structure that the position of the main bulkhead is not linked to the mast position, allowing a larger and more forward-reaching saloon. Purists may be annoyed by the fuller lines and, above all, the increased draught of the 39, but the shipyard previously considered a maximum keel depth of two metres to be ideal for sailing in the Stockholm archipelago. The 39 now exceeds this value by 15 centimetres.

A picture from the construction phase. The floor assembly and the downstand beam for the dumping basin are clearly visible

However, the combination of high-quality construction, highly customisable fittings, simple operation and good sailing performance seems to be hitting a nerve with customers more than ever. According to the shipyard, ten yachts have already been sold, virtually from the drawing board - a very good number considering the Swedish company's manufacturing-like production.

Previous Linjett Models

With over 100 years of knowledge and skill, Rosättra Boatyard is Sweden’s oldest boatbuilding yard that continues to design and build modern, innovative yachts today. Since 1948, three generations of Gustafsson have been running the business, including its best-known model of sailboat, Linjett. First developed at Rosättra during the early 1970s, the first Linjett was the Linjett 30 launched in 1974, followed by the 40, 35, 33, 32 and 30. Below you can discover more about the Linjett models and the astonishing history of one of Sweden’s most successful and longest-serving boatyards.

cta image

Built in 1974, the Linjett 30 was the first line produced model that was designed and manufactured entirely at Rosättra Boatyard by the Gustafsson brothers.

The foundation of the Linjett 30 was to combine a cruising boat with the popular Half-Ton racing boat, which proved popular and a total of 112 Linjett 30s were manufactured between 1973–1979. It was the first modern cruising yacht designed and built by the Rosättra boatyard. The mould for the boat was made at Rosättra and larger plastic work was done in partnership with Segmobåt in Uppsala before the hull and deck were shipped back to the yard where it was finally completed with wood interiors, engine, heater, electricity and water. The Linjett 30 was initially a one design yacht, close to nine meters long and three meters wide. The wide beam has been well-utilised to make the boat very family-friendly.

split block image

A Good Racing Yacht

The first time a Linjett yacht was revealed was at the Segla-74 Boat Show held in Osterman's Marble Halls in Stockholm. According to the press at the time, our model was the biggest news at the show which meant production got off to a flying start. The biggest difference from similar yachts at the show was our solid wooden interior and the well-planned cockpit. It was also a good racing boat. All three Gustafsson brothers were passionate sailors and wanted the Linjett 30 to have the ability to sail well in yacht races. This marriage of speed and comfort was demonstrated in great results on the water for Jan Gustafsson, who was victorious in the 1974 Åland Sea Race, a 5th overall place in Gotland Runt 1975 and a 2nd place in the Alma Race – all in the Linjett 30.

The success of the Linjett 30 paved the way for the next upgraded and improved model – the Linjett 32. Having gained valuable experience and vital skills in building the Linjett 30, the boatyard and the brothers continued to build on this success, with Mats Gustafsson taking responsibility for creating the shape of Rosättra’s second Linjett – the Linjett 32.

The new model was another triumph and is still the model that Rosättra has built the most of in its history – a total of 263 Linjett 32s were built between 1978 and 1992, when the model then finished production. An extraordinary and quick sailing yacht, many of them were built as semi or three-quarter finished yachts allowing the buyer to put in their own finishing touches.

split block image

Easy To Sail

The Linjett 32 was built to suit both family and racing sailors. The cockpit is designed to have either a tiller or steering wheel, and the main sheet is placed on the coach roof, thus never in the way for the crew. Halyards and reefing lines are pulled down to the cockpit and with the self-tacking jib it makes the Linjett 32 very comfortable for cruising, even in tough conditions. Inside, the Linjett 32 has a solid teak interior and the craftmanship of the carpentry comes through in every detail and drawer. The kitchen has a two-flame stove with oven, double sink, large surfaces and good lighting, while sitting down at the navigation table there is enough room for charts and all the marine instruments are within easy reach. The saloon is lighter and more spacious than in most 32-footers of its time. The L-shaped sofa is angled by the front bulkhead giving it a cosy feeling, and the sleeping quarters are also welcoming. The port berth can be extended to become a double berth and the double bulkheads by the mast provide extra stability when needed during severe weather conditions.

With an eye for design and a close relationship with clients both on and off the water, designer Mats Gustafsson could predict the trends in the sailing community. Which is why in 1994, he revealed it was time to go down in size for the next model.

A new medium-sized, durable family boat that could sail well was what clients were looking for. The Linjett 32 had been taken out of production, and the Linjett 35 had become a well-established model for a new circle of sailors – but what could offer comfortable sailing for all the family?

The answer was the Linjett 33 which sails comfortably and has a perfect weight – withstanding 1.5 tons of cruising gear and family bags without changing its sailing style. Easy to get on and off board, the Linjett 33 symbolised the essence of Rosättra’s founding principles: good quality and valued yachts.

Clever Solutions

The storage compartments in the stern have teak hatches to allow plenty of room for sails and sheets. There is a clever rim around the aft part of the cockpit that holds the cockpit's awning, including the frame when folded down. The cockpit table and cabin way hatches store the cockpit stowage. The Linjett 35 has a large kitchen with stove, oven, fridge, double sinks, and double cabinets with customised interiors to secure china and glass. The navigation table is in a traditional design with its own seat and a good space for charts. The wooden interiors are made of the finest teak and all surfaces are varnished, even those that are not visible. The interior layout in the stern creates a comfortable, teak double bed against the hull. The cabin has two openable windows providing great ventilation. The head and shower space are generously spacious and there are two wardrobes: one is accessed from the cockpit so wet gear can be hung directly into the navy wardrobe without going through the saloon, and the other has its own heat exhaust for use as a drying cabinet.

linjett 39 yacht for sale

This is a thoroughbred yacht that is well-balanced and powerful. Launched in 2007, the Linjett 37 came with new and clever onboard solutions that every member of the family could appreciate, making it a quality-built and likeable yacht with good sailing abilities along with a timeless elegance that is expected with all Linjett yachts.

Traditionally, the Linjett 37 stays away from quick trends and is designed to be functional and sail well. Since the bow is medium to narrow and more V-shaped, the boat becomes an allrounder which sails as well up or down wind. The hull shape is wider aft, but maintains its narrow shape through the waterline, making the yacht quick in light winds. The Linjett 37 came with many updates when it premiered: she was the first model to have all lines entirely covered over the cabin top allowing the boat to stay neat, easily managed and safer.

L37 kom med många nyheter. Inte minst uppskattades arrangemanget med att alla tågändar dragits ner till sittbrunnen och att tamparna smugits in i sargen och därmed gjort däcket stilrent och säkert.

"No series-produced boat is more consistently adapted for the Baltic Sea than the Linjett 37. Crafty precision and perfection characterise this Swedish cruiser, which is comfortable and easy to take out sailing." Die Yacht Magazine, Germany

The Linjett 37 began a new era in the Linjett model-family. It has the good all-weather sailing abilities expected from Linjett yachts, however it was built with a genuine focus on the whole family and to give everyone a great sailing experience. The volume below the deck was increased and provided great opportunities for individual customisation. Two aft cabins, a front cabin and a spacious lounge allows for eight people to sail comfortably together, and the children became happier when their friends could join. Every customer has their individual wishes when ordering a yacht from Linjett. From adding a dog bed in the front cabin to an inbuilt submerged hydraulic-controlled TV screen in the saloon, the skilled carpenters at Rosättra are happy to fulfil every request. In the saloon you can choose between a traditional sofa or double armchairs, and there is the option to add more windows in the hull for natural light, or exclude the navigation seat in favour of an extra sofa.

"Sailors who enjoy a classic yacht with high standard will be happy in Linjett 37. The boat is wonderful to sail, comfortable to live in, classically built, well-equipped and beautiful to look at."

Båtnytt Magazine, #11 2008

Rig & Sails

The mast from Seldén has an aluminium profile, and the 9/10-rig has two back swept spreaders in an angle of 25 degrees. It is a modern and well adjustable rig. A welcome feature with the Linjett 37, is that it can be fitted with a furling, self-tacking jib with a 110% overlap. It is designed to be sailed in both full size and partially furled. A smart located mark in the sail shows how far you need to furl it to make it self-tacking: another simple solution to ensure safety. Choosing the sails for cruising and local racing is really easy; for this yacht it is enough with a good, all-round genoa and a 110% jib.

“You feel safe in the Linjett 37. Even when it is heavy weather and rough sailing.”

Racing Sailor, Linjett 37

linjett 39 yacht for sale

The Linjett 40 has been thriving in regattas thanks to the yacht’s lower displacement weight in relation to its size when compared to sister models. Designed to be easily handled by two people, the model has good speed even in the lightest breeze, and great strength and stability during the harshest weather.

The Linjett 40’s interior layout was developed in collaboration with Linjett owners and is crafted in selected varnished mahogany – a hallmark of Linjett’s commitment to quality. The owner’s cabin is located in the bow. The stern can be built with either one or two cabins on the client’s request. The lounge has an L-shaped couch on port side and a selection between two comfortable armchairs or a straight sofa on starboard side. The bathroom can also have a separate shower. The kitchen is spacious with a gas stove, oven, fridge and a large sink. Singlehanded mixers are standard in the kitchen and bathroom.

"The goal of the Linjett 40 was to create a sailboat for two people to sail easily and comfortably. She should have timeless lines and cockpit far aft. Furthermore, the sailboat should be made to sail in our archipelago waters and therefore have a moderate draft, as well as a bow designed to be moored towards cliffs. Thanks to its strong construction and manageable sails, the Linjett 40 symbolises a modern ocean concept." Designer Mats Gustafsson on the design philosophy behind the Linjett 40

The Linjett 40 is narrow at the waterline but wide on the beam to provide stability on the up wind, which makes her very stable. The width also contributes to a comfortable space inside. From the mast run all the lines underneath the deck to the two main electric winches in the cockpit, making the deck very neat. The teak finish is glued with vacuum technology. A moderate keel is required to easily sail in Sweden’s archipelago, therefore the Linjett 40’s keel is designed to utilise the entire blade (a width of 18cm increasing to 34cm at the bottom). The rudder has also been designed to split in order to prevent major damage or loss of the whole rudder in a grounding. The upper part is five times stronger in its construction than the sacrificial end. The rudder stock is made of stainless steel and fiberglass, and to give a good feeling in the steering, the rudder is connected to the steering wheel via link arms. Plotter and navigation instruments are also placed on the steering wheel pedestal.

The Linjett 40 has fractional rig in aluminium from Seldén. Double swept spreaders guarantee that the rig stands firmly with only a backstay for trimming. The boom has a single-line reef system. A stable rig which is easy to handle is important on a Linjett. The main sheet traveller is located on the cabin top, and as usual on a Linjett - the self-tacking jib is standard. The boat comes with Tape-Drive sails from UK-Syversen in the main sail, jib, genoa and spinnaker. The main sail comes as standard with two reef points.
