Land Yachting uses 3-wheeled vehicles attached to a sail which can reach speeds in excess of 40mph. The rider sits or lays down, close to the ground, using feet to control the front wheel for steering and hands to control the sail.

Land Yachts can travel at between 2 and 3 times the speed of the wind yet can be propelled by winds of less than 10mph.

Training & Qualifications

Training is offered at BFSLYC registered training centres. There are three levels required before qualifying as a pilot.

Level One – Safety rules and basic practical sailing

Level Two – Rigging a yacht, pre-sailing safety checks and a wide range of sailing skills

Level Three – Sail competently and safely. Understand racing rules.

Pilot’s License – A written theory test is followed by a practical test. Once licenced you are opermitted to race.

Clubs and training schools provide yachts, goggles and helmets. Students often progress to purchase their own yacht. Common types includes class 3, class 5, leisure yachts and parakarts.

Our Location

Fishy's Land Yachts have previously operated on the lovely sandy beach at Greatstone which is opposite Romney Sands Holiday Park .  

Important Notice: Due to the way the beach has changed over the last year or so, it is no longer suitable for us to be able to sail there, the new sailing location is now in a field and is so much better than the beach because we can sail most days and in a lot less wind. We will also have a roundabout in the middle so after a while we can see how much you have learnt, because you can sail on it but got to stop on top of it without going right over!! So we can now make it more fun and do things that we can’t do on the beach.

We can now sail most days subject to availability in a lot less wind. We have free parking, toilets café/restaurant and bar 1 minute walk from where we sail.

Directions: From J10 or J10A on the M20, just follow the A2070 and A259 to Lydd Airport, the post code is TN29 9QL , it’s really easy to find us!!

Your team will be re-energised after a day harnessing the wind’s energy. It’s little-known that land yachting is a centuries-old form of transport. Seen in ancient paintings, the people of Kent developed land yachting as an alternative mode of transport to travel along the coastline and across beaches. Today, land yachting has been turned into an adventure sport. Land yachting keeps the rider in a buggy close to the ground, manipulating sails to reach speeds of up to 40mph. Full tuition is provided on manoeuvring your land yacht before the adrenaline rush kicks in and you speed up and down the beaches of Kent. Teambuilding sessions can be tailored for races against your colleagues and obstacle courses are available to take on as groups. Consciences can rest easy knowing this trilling sport is environmentally friendly with no land damage, pollution, noise, or fuel used. But don’t forget, there aren’t any brakes!

2 Hour Shared Land Yacht Experience in Kent

How It Works

Land Yachting Experience Days: Land yachting is an exciting and novel sport that is guaranteed to leave you smiling for days! Perfect for a summer day out with a friend or as the beginning of a new hobby, land yachting is a truly unique experience to try.

Whether you're a complete beginner to Land Yachting or have some experience, you're bound to get plenty out of your two hour experience. With your fully qualified training instructor on hand to show you all the tricks of the trade, you're sure to master the basic skills of land yachting before the experience comes to an end. Beginners will be shown everything they need to know from how to get going, how to steer and most importantly, how to stop! Once you've mastered the basics you will set off doing short runs down the runway at lower speeds, gradually building up the speed and the distance as you become more confident and comfortable. Most people pick up the technique pretty quickly, and there's no better feeling than the wind in your hair as you zoom across the grass.

If you love adrenaline and adventure then you're bound to enjoy this experience, especially as you get to share the yacht with with a friend! Or perhaps you want to spoil that special someone who's a bit of a thrill seeker? Either way, this is a hugely exciting sport that makes a great gift for everyone.

Availability

The shared land yachting experience is available 7 days a week, throughout the year. Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays can also be booked with a surcharge of £10 per person payable on the day.

All dates are subject to availability at the time of booking.

All participants must sign a disclaimer before the experience begins.

Experience Duration: 2:00

Time Spent at Venue: 2:15

The experience lasts two hours with the time split between the two participants, however you should allow more time at the centre.

Spectators Allowed on Site: Yes

This voucher covers two participants.

Please note this is not two people in the yacht at the same time. You will rotate round every 10 - 15 minutes.

Spectators are welcome on site, however visibility may be limited once the experience begins. Within a 1 minute walk there is free parking, toilets, cafe, restaurant and a bar.

What to wear.

Participants should wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing. All yachting equipment will be provided.

Being an outdoor activity, land yachting can be affected by extreme weather conditions. Should a cancellation occur, the experience will be rescheduled for a future date.

The Best Places to Go Wild Swimming in Yorkshire

What better way to experience the great outdoors than by going wild swimming? Within the wilds of Yorkshire, you can take the plunge in a freezing pool or ride down some of the readily available rapids. We recommend some of the best swimming spots that Yorkshire has to offer.

1. bolton abbey.

Architectural Landmark, Historical Landmark, Natural Feature

Next to the picturesque ruins of Bolton Abbey, the lightly running River Wharfe is a favoured spot for wild swimming. The Abbey itself dates back to the 12th century and gives bathers a stunning backdrop. The river has stepping stones running across for ease of access from each bank. Although there are no water features for climbing, you will find a deeper section of the river near the stepping stones and the abbey that’s perfect for diving.

2. Kisdon Force

Natural Feature

A short walk down from the village of Keld in the Yorkshire Dales, Kisdon Force is a string of beautiful waterfalls along the River Swale. Down from the falls there are two deep pools. One is 50m (164ft) wide and sun-drenched in summer where you can swim or paddle. The second favours the bold – it’s a little further down and features a huge drop into a slightly darker, more isolated pool that’s perfect for plunging.

3. Appletreewick

Natural Feature, Architectural Landmark

One of the best-kept secrets for wild swimming in the Yorkshire Dales, Appletreewick (or Aptick as locals call it) is a scenic spot near the village of the same name. Great fun for families, the river features rapids a little further upstream, which create a flume ideal for tubing. A rope swing hangs off one of the banks, which the kids can have fun on. A small rocky island in the middle of the river offers a serene setting that’s perfect for picnicking.

5. Thomason Foss Waterfall

Surrounded by idyllic woodland, Thomason Foss offers guests the perfect setting for a relaxing swim. Featuring a large pool, overlooked by a waterfall and with the local steam train passing nearby, you couldn’t get a more picturesque scene while swimming. Although the pool isn’t known for its temperature, the Birch Hall Inn just a short walk away, offers wild swimmers a great place to warm up afterward.

6. Stainforth Force

Set downriver from the village of Stainforth in the Yorkshire Dales, this is a popular destination with families and local day trippers. The River Ribble runs over several waterfalls, before flowing into a deep pool at the bottom, offering swimmers a great platform for plunging or diving. The river has grassy banks, where you can set up a picnic, and there are shallows nearby for younger children to paddle in.
