2023 Motor Boat Awards winners: Best motorboats of the year revealed
- Top stories
It has taken months of testing, weeks of analysing and days of deliberating amongst our judges but the 2023 Motor Boat Awards winners can now be revealed....
As always, we have chosen a winner in each of our ten categories based on how well the boat performed during our rigorous sea trials but also how well it meets the requirements of its target market in relation to its size, style and price.
In some categories, we have also awarded a Highly Commended, not because it’s the nearest runner-up but because the judges feel it has some exceptional talent or innovation that is worthy of recognition.
Last but not least, we’d like to thank Sleipner for once again partnering with us as the headline sponsor of the 2023 Motor Boat Awards and our category sponsors Garmin and The Moorings .
2023 Motor Boat Awards winners revealed
Customer service award.
Sponsored by Garmin
Approved Boats, Boats.co.uk, Gibbs Quay Boat Sales, Haven Knox-Johnston
Winner – Gibbs Quay Boat Sales
This is the only award that is open to nominations from members of the public. However, the judges base their decision not just on the number of nominations each company gets (as this would always favour bigger companies with more customers) but also on the quality of service provided to these customers.
This year, we had more nominations than ever before, with several previous winners making it through to our shortlist of finalists, proving that good customer service isn’t just a passing phase but permanently ingrained in the culture of the best companies.
This year’s winner also enjoys a long track record of looking after its customers and particularly of helping new buyers take their first tentative steps into boating – a daunting prospect for many. This is what a few of their recent customers had to say about them:
“The after-sales experience has totally matched the pre-sales experience, dealing with minor niggles and providing us with unlimited technical advice.” “They made us feel welcome from day one and had the patience of a saint as we chose our new boat. They are a credit to the marine industry.” “Excellent after-sales service, prompt and professional boat service and good advice given at all times.”
Sportsboats up to 30ft
Aquaspirit 585 , Iron Boats 827 , Quarken 27 T-Top , Ryck 280 , X Shore Eelex 8000
Winner – Quarken 27 T-Top
Quarken’s 27 T-Top is an object lesson in practical dayboat design. Proudly built in Finland, it uses a single Yamaha F300 outboard motor for a 43-knot top end and cruising efficiency only a shade over 1.5 litres per nautical mile.
It’s fun to drive, with a novice-friendly hull and an effective helm position with direct access to a ‘skipper’s cleat’ for single-handed work. And it looks cool too, with its sleek stepped hull, flared bow and contrasting tinted panels.
There’s also masses of storage on board and all of it is useable, thanks to sensible proportions, proper linings, dual access points and quick-lift one-handed cushions. But it’s the ease of movement that really hits home.
Even if you reverse the helm seats to integrate with the diners at the aft bench, you can still pass them freely on the starboard side. And when you reach the bow, whether the forward seats are rigged for dining or sunbathing, the step-through forepeak with offset anchor means you can still disembark without obstruction.
There’s no wet bar and the heads is an open-plan affair but if you want a proper open dayboat with a serviceable cuddy at a sensible price, this is a superb debut from Quarken.
Highly commended – Iron Boats 827
Fast, agile and well-priced, with a brilliant Mannerfelt hull and a cool military aesthetic, the Iron Boats 827 is one of the most entertaining boats you will ever drive.
Weekenders over 30ft
Aquila 32 , Duchy Sport , De Antonio D36 , Galeon 325 GTO , Jeanneau Cap Camarat 12.5 , Rand Escape 30
Winner – De Antonio D36
De Antonio has become well-known for its unique take on the outboard-powered weekender and its new D36 is a fine exponent of that approach. It uses a raised sunbed to cover its motors, with a clever transverse tender slot and a full inboard-style swim platform.
It counteracts that extra aft weight with a pair of hull extensions for extra buoyancy – and when you get the boat under way, that translates into the kind of flat-running 50-knot performance that thoroughly validates De Antonio’s way of doing things.
Further forward, there’s a central dining zone opposite a big transverse galley, with a pull-out cushion-topped coolbox that turns it into a dining station for ten. The bow adds another generous sunpad and yet, when you step down below, the calibre of the cabins is way beyond expectations for an open weekender.
There’s a central lounge, a starboard bathroom, a forward double berth with push-button convertibility and a huge full-beam mid-cabin that can be converted from a saloon to a second double in a matter of seconds.
With masses of user-friendly day space, versatile four-berth accommodation and whippet-like performance, this is a truly brilliant family weekender.
Highly commended – Jeanneau Cap Camarat 12.5
The imposing new 12.5 features a deepset cockpit, an expandable port terrace, twin or triple outboards for 45 knots and convertible sleeping for up to five.
Adventure Boats
Axopar 45 Cross Cabin , Viggo C8 , Wellcraft 355 , XO DFNDR 9
Winner – XO DFNDR 9
Very few boats under 30ft offer anything like as much all-round ability as the XO DFNDR 9. Slender and soft-riding, with raised hull sides and a lofty but deepset pilothouse, there is virtually no cruising ground where its practical but innovative walkaround layout wouldn’t excel.
You can slide it onto the beach for a party. You can spend the night in the comfy forward cabin. You can open up the aft end of the pilothouse and enjoy a relaxed sunbathe or a six-man lunch – and you can achieve precisely that same feat up in the bow.
Back in the pilothouse, the helm is superb, there’s ample standing headroom and visibility is also first class. But if you slide those vast glass side panels aft, you can also enjoy the DFNDR 9 in much the same way as an authentic open boat.
Having taken it across the Baltic, we can vouch for its performance too. With twin 225s on the transom, it’s fast, frugal and beautifully balanced.
The fact that it’s built like a tank and looks like a film star is just the crowning glory for an all-action adventure boat that proves just how much can be achieved when intelligent design, quality build and rigorous development come together.
Highly commended – Axopar 45 Cross Cabin
With its stepped hull, sliding wet bar, vast sunroofs, two-part side doors and fold-down bulwarks, this is a fast, versatile adventure boat.
Sportscruisers up to 45ft
Bavaria SR36 , Dale Classic 37 , Jeanneau DB43 , Marex 330 Scandinavia
Winner – Marex 330 Scandinavia
The Marex 330 is full of ideas that directly upgrade your life on the water. There’s a fold-down bench at the aft swim platform and hidden fender slots beneath the side decks. There are aft and side doors, plus a mix of sunroofs and sunshades, so you can tweak the conditions to your needs.
In fact, with an aft curtain that wraps around the cockpit, you could easily use this boat as a four-season cruising machine. But it doesn’t stop there. The cockpit is deep and sociable for large dayboating parties and the saloon dinette uses a pop-out stool and reversing co-pilot bench to make best use of the space.
But the fore and aft dining zones also convert into double berths. And that means you can add another two beds to the forward double and the low-slung mid-cabin and sleep up to eight at a time.
Under way, the 330 makes a mockery of its restrained looks with plenty of poke, outstanding poise and pinpoint handling. You can spec it with single or twin V-drives or sterndrives.
And a beautiful helm position with multiple adjustment points, a wide overhead sunroof, a skipper’s side door and the option of joystick control makes single-handed helming an absolute breeze.
Highly commended – Dale Classic 37
Designed by celebrated Dale stalwart, Arthur Mursell, the new four-berth Classic 37 is built like a tank, styled like a work of art and equipped with a delightfully soft-riding semi-displacement hull.
Sportscruisers over 45ft
Fairline Phantom 65 , Pardo 60 Endurance , Riva 68 Diable , Sunseeker Predator 65
Winner – Fairline Phantom 65
This may be Fairline’s first attempt at a sportsfly design but you’d never guess it from the way it looks, performs and feels. With those sleek, flowing lines, it strikes the perfect balance between elegance and sportiness, yet somehow still manages to pack in up to four cabins below deck and masses of sociable living space inside and out.
Even the flybridge itself, while compact by Squadron standards, has plenty of secure seating, sunpads and a proper wet bar, as well as a comprehensive outside helm station.
However, all of this would count for little if the driving experience failed to live up to Fairline’s usual high standards. Thankfully, it’s even better than we had anticipated, delivering effortless acceleration up to a top speed of 38 knots, responsive handling and the kind of refined, long-legged cruising that feels perfectly in keeping with that other legendary Phantom built by Rolls-Royce motor cars.
Last but by no means least, those impressive dynamic characteristics are backed up by sound practical thinking, a beautifully finished interior and reassuringly solid build quality.
As we said in our original test, the Phantom 65 really does feel like it offers the best of both worlds with the looks and driving characteristics of a traditional sportscruiser but also the comfort and practicality of a flybridge.
Flybridges up to 60ft
Absolute 56 , Beneteau Swift Trawler 48 , Galeon 500 Fly , Leopard 46 Powercat , Prestige M48
Winner – Galeon 500 Fly
The Galeon 500 Fly is a supremely innovative boat. Up at the helm, push-button windows aid ventilation and a rotating seat integrates the driver with the starboard bench and the rest of the upper saloon guests.
There’s a pleasantly sociable helm on the flybridge too, with forward sunbeds and a wraparound lounge, plus a port wet bar and a huge dining space aft.
And back down on the bow, a big triangular dining area with comfy backrests provides all kinds of convertibility, including incline control for the sunlounger and sliding forward benches for a larger party.
Down below, there’s masses of natural light from oversized windows and skylights. But it’s the aft part of the main deck that really stands out. The port balcony folds down so you can perch on a stool and take advantage of the galley’s inside-outside bar.
On the other side, the saloon opens up, enabling the settee to reverse and face out over its own terrace. And in the aft cockpit, a spinning carousel enables you to face in whichever direction you choose.
In short, with its combination of rotating seats, twin terraces and inside-outside zones, the 500 Fly is more rewarding than any other boat in its sector.
Highly commended – Prestige M48
In addition to three double cabins, each with its own bathroom and staircase, the Prestige M48 provides a stupendous amount of day space and a drive as novice-friendly as any you will see.
Flybridges over 60ft
Absolute 60 Fly , Azimut 68 , Numarine 22 XP , Sirena 68 , Sirena 78
Winner – Sirena 68
It’s hard to believe that Sirena Yachts has only been making motor boats under its own name for a little over five years but with plenty of prior experience building high-quality motor yachts for Azimut, and the talents of world-renowned yacht designers German Frers and Cor D. Rover to assist them, it has gone from zero to hero in record time.
We tested two new models in 2022 alone, both of which made it through to our shortlist. But it’s the 68 which we feel is the more rounded package, offering the perfect balance of size, style, ability and price.
That starts with a modern yet elegant design that manages to pack a high-quality, high-volume interior into a surprisingly sleek exterior.
Then there’s the robust semi-displacement hull with its category A RCD rating that is just as happy batting aside heavy seas at displacement speeds as it is hoovering up the miles at 25 knots.
That low-speed comfort and stability also plays into the current trend for fuel efficient passage-making, giving a safe cruising range of almost 1,000nm at 9 knots. The result is a wonderfully capable all-rounder that is perfectly in tune with today’s needs at a price that belies its quality.
Highly commended – Absolute 60 Fly
With its versatile deck spaces, vast windows, innovative layout and refined IPS performance, Absolute’s latest flybridge is as comfortable as it is stylish.
Custom Yachts
Sponsored by The Moorings
Azimut Grande 26M , Grand Banks 85 , Pearl 95 , Sunseeker 90 Ocean
Winner – Sunseeker 90 Ocean
We don’t mind admitting that this was the hardest of all the categories to pick a winner in. We could make a case for any one of these finalists winning. However, after much debate we decided to give it to the one we felt was most in tune with what today’s buyers are looking for.
The Sunseeker Ocean 90 has it all: acres of versatile deck spaces packed with innovative solutions like the X-TEND seating; an intimate connection with the sea thanks to the vast sea-level beach club, glass transoms and bulwarks; masses of storage space for tenders, water toys and cruising gear; a wonderfully luxurious interior that makes full use of the unusually wide beam; and a hull that feels very nearly as agile and sea-kindly as some of its overtly sportier siblings.
The fact that this all fits comfortably into a craft with an LOA of 89ft is all the more remarkable, enabling it to offer the same space and luxury as much longer boats but without the associated running costs.
However, the biggest achievement of all is that despite its extra beam and volume and a brand-new hull shape, it still manages to look, feel and drive like a true Sunseeker.
Highly commended – Grand Banks 85
With its slippery hull shape, carbon fibre superstructure and IPS drives, the new GB85 is exceptionally fuel efficient but still just as seaworthy, stylish and beautifully built as its much heavier predecessors.
Judges’ Special Award
Sponsored by Sleipner
Winner – Pearl Yachts
From its humble beginnings in 1998, when a former yacht captain teamed up with a local businessman to launch a stylish new range of aft cabin craft, Pearl Yachts has never shied away from doing things differently.
In the face of vastly bigger, better resourced competition, it has consistently managed to defy the odds, building spacious, cleverly packaged craft with the style and quality to match.
While many of its competitors have been bought, sold or even fallen by the wayside over the intervening years, Pearl Yachts’ small but enthusiastic management team, led by its founder and managing director Iain Smallridge with the backing of its owners Tony and Margaret Whittaker, steered Pearl Yachts through the tough times and continued to invest in new product.
The introduction of world-class designers, Bill Dixon and Kelly Hoppen, in 2012 has ensured that its latest range of yachts are as fresh and innovative as ever, while maintaining the quality-to-price ratio for which they are renowned.
Now boasting a thoroughly modern range of stylish flybridge cruisers from 62ft to 95ft, including a brand new 72ft model and an 82ft project currently in development, Pearl Yachts enters its 25th year in business looking stronger and fitter than ever.

The Monaco Yacht Show returns this year for its 32nd edition with a stellar lineup of yachts. The newly refitted 319-foot Carinthia VII and the head-turning 312-foot Kismet are two of the largest yachts confirmed to attend, while this year’s debuts include a dozen-plus new launches that may not be as large as some of the brokerage and charter gigayachts at the show but are still an impressive group in terms of design.
The newbies also seem to be broken out into distinctive colors this year, with the 262-foot scarlet-red Leona being the largest launch at the show, while the 174-foot Jewels , with its sky-blue hull will also stand out. Damen’s Bad Company Support has neon-pink lettering on the side, while Anjelif has a gold exterior, and Grey has a black superstructure and light-gray hull.
The Monaco event is the biggest yachting show to take place throughout Europe and the marquis event in the superyacht world. The organizers have been working hard to promote environmental innovations and educational trends taking place within yachting. The show will have design and innovation hubs, sustainability hub, and an adventure area. Of course, the big stars will be the fleet of 120 superyachts in Port Hercules.
Here are the 10 launches that we will definitely be visiting at the show.
‘Leona’ | Bilgin Yachts
The 262-foot Leona is Bilgin Yachts’s largest delivery to date. Even amid the glamour of Port Hercules, the full custom yacht will be hard to miss, thanks to a bright-scarlet hull that has earned the yacht the nickname “the Red Bullet.” The exterior is designed by Unique Yacht Design, and the interior is by H2 Yacht Design. The largest yacht to debut in Monaco this year, Leona is part of the Bilgin 263 series. It has the same lifting transom and large beach club pool as its sistership Tatiana . Another wow-factor feature includes a pair of Greek statues covered in fiber optics that give the impression of a star-studded night sky.
‘Alchemy’ | Rossinavi
With a design that was developed entirely over Zoom, Rossinavi’s tri-deck 216-foot Alchemy was built for an owner with a penchant for space. The result is more than 3,500 square feet of deck space, which holds large outdoor dining areas mated with dedicated bronzing and socializing areas and an on-deck Jacuzzi. The design employs Philippe Briand’s signature Vitruvius hull, while the contemporary interior was by Enrico Gobbi’s Team for Design.
‘Anjelif’ | Columbus Yachts
The 164-foot Anjelif is defined by its many technical innovations, including hybrid diesel-electric propulsion, an onboard sanitization system for the elimination of airborne viruses, and a touch-and-go helipad at the bow that converts into an open-air cinema. The all-aluminum, four-deck yacht delivered by Italian shipyard Columbus Yachts also boasts a gold exterior by Marco Casali of Too Design. The Italian studio used natural and sustainable materials to define the interior. Amenities include a gym on the main deck, a sauna, and treatment rooms.
‘Jewels’ | Turquoise Yachts
Turquoise Yachts’s 174-foot Jewels , with its sky-blue hull, will no doubt to turn heads wherever it ventures. The exterior design is the result of a first-time collaboration between the Turkish builder and Miami-based DeBasto Design. The interior is by British studio H2 Yacht Design to accommodates 12 guests. The boat, which has 720 gross tonnes of volume, boasts a large sundeck with spa pool, sunpads, bar, and socializing area.
‘Grey’ | Tankoa
Sporting a jet-black superstructure and light-gray hull, the aptly named Grey by Tankoa Yachts enjoys the same Paszkowski-designed profile as its sisterships Kinda and Olokun . But it’s the large glass-sided pool on the foredeck, paired with an outdoor cinema screen and integrated surround-sound speakers, that grab all the attention. A fold-down transom with extended swim platform, a beach club with side sea terraces, and a large sun deck with a second pool complete the 164-foot superyacht package.
‘X-Space’ | Sanlorenzo
X-Space by Sanlorenzo takes the use of onboard glass to a new level. Full-height windows, sliding-glass panes and “glass walls” in the guest cabins fill the interior with natural light. One of the yacht’s five decks is dedicated entirely to the owner, comprising multiple living areas, an office, and large master suite leading directly onto a private terrace at the bow. The exterior features include a 323-square-foot sunbathing deck and a swimming pool. Designed by Zuccon International Project, the 144-foot yacht is one of the Italian yard’s most anticipated launches to date.
‘Fancy’ | Nautor’s Swan
As the first hull in Nautor’s Swan’s 108 series, the 115-foot Fancy is one of a handful of sailing yachts making its world premiere at Monaco this year. Described by the shipyard as “the first in a new generation of Maxi Swans,” and sitting neatly between its Swan 98 and Swan 120 flagship, it mates a carbon hull with a sweeping and uncluttered resin-infused deck. The exterior design is by Micheletti + Partners, with naval architecture by German Frers.
‘Ace’ | Conrad
The 145-foot yacht Ace built by Conrad Shipyard is the largest superyacht to come out of Poland. Its Reymond Langton exterior is defined by a “rolling wave” superstructure and an 82-foot sundeck with cinema screen and recessed infinity pool. Commissioned by a Swiss owner who requested an interior with an “Italian soul,” the full-custom boat sleeps 10 guests in five suites, with accommodations for a crew of nine. It marks the first hull in the Polish shipyard’s C144S series.
‘ArtExplorer’ | Perini Navi
When Robb Report reported on Frédéric Jousset’s idea for a floating gallery in 2021 , the art enthusiast’s vision was still a dream. Now it’s a 154-foot reality called ArtExplorer , debuting at Monaco this year. Built by Perini Navi to a design by naval architects Axel de Beaufort and Guillaume Verdier, it is the largest aluminum sailing catamaran in the world. Following the museum boat’s premiere at Monaco, it will sail the world, hosting immersive art exhibitions curated in collaboration with the Louvre Museum in Jousset’s bid to “democratize the arts.”
‘Bad Company Support’ | Damen
The 175-foot Bad Company Support is the first hull in Damen Yachting’s YS53 support vessel series. Commissioned by American tech entrepreneur Anthony Hsieh, the support vessel will be the largest boat in the serial yachtsman’s 10-strong fleet of vessels used for sportfishing expeditions and marine conservation. It’s also his first new build. Sporting an attention-grabbing neon pink name on its side, the support vessel has a 5,000 nautical mile range, a 15-ton deck crane, and IMO Tier III-compliant engines.

Top 15 Trawlers for 2023
- By Patrick Sciacca
- October 13, 2023
For every shoe, there’s a foot, and for every boating enthusiast, there’s a yacht. For those individuals who like to cruise their yachts across blue water, spend months on board or voyage to remote beaches and quiet coves, a trawler yacht is the go-to vessel choice. But even within this yacht genre, there are many options. For example, there are some mighty midsize trawlers that are easily capable of transatlantic crossings for an adventurous couple, and then there are megayacht-size craft with next-level amenities that require extra crew. Some trawler-yacht builders offer significant customization and others work from a fixed options list. There are single-engine trawlers and twin-engine trawlers. One thing that is common is that these trawler yachts are designed from the ground up for yachtsmen with wanderlust in their hearts.
Top Trawlers
The following 15 trawlers are all vessels we’ve written about. They are listed in no particular order.
- Nordhavn 96 : Built for an owner who desired to self-sufficiently while cruising the world, literally.
- Beneteau Grand Trawler 62 : This trawler can travel nonstop for 1,000 nautical miles.
- Kadey-Krogen 52 : This twin-engine-capable, all-oceans trawler is a solid fit for voyaging cruising couples.
- Bering Yachts B76 : The B76 is the builder’s first fully custom trawler in this size range.
- Ranger Tugs R-43 Command Bridge : This vessel is equally comfortable at a 7-knot stroll or an 18-knot jog.
- Beneteau 48 Swift Trawler : Based on the builder’s Swift Trawler 47, this yacht has a resin-infused fiberglass hull.
- Kadey-Krogen 50 Open : The 50 Open can cruise at 6 knots nonstop for 5,000 nautical miles.
- Outer Reef 620 Trident : It has a three-stateroom layout and optional 600 hp Cummins diesels.
- Grand Banks 60 Skylounge : This yacht is efficient across a variety of cruising speeds.
- Krogen Express 52 : Headroom to spare, two staterooms, a chef-ready galley and long range define this trawler yacht.
- Grand Banks 85 Skylounge : Grand Banks’ V-warp hull form makes for a level running attitude, seakindliness and long range.
- Vicem Yachts 82 Classic : Construction is in cold-molded, strip-planked mahogany with epoxy.
- Outer Reef 610 Motoryacht : Power on this Outer Reef is a pair of 500 hp John Deere 6090 diesels.
- Nordhavn 59 Coastal Pilot : Did someone say this is a 20-knot Nordhavn?
- Marlow 58E : A high level of customization and admirable performance are at the heart of the Marlow 58E.
Nordhavn 96
The Nordhavn 96 is the yacht builder’s second-largest yacht its 17-model fleet, which ranges from 41 to 120 feet length overall. (There is a new 112 on the drawing table.) The builder says the N96 is based on its earlier 86-footer with a 10-foot cockpit extension, which increases both main-deck, skylounge and below-deck volume. The N96 we reviewed was built by an owner who previously had an 86-foot Nordhavn, but with his plans for extended cruises to remote destinations, the 96 was the right size for his voyaging plans. In fact, since the owner took delivery of the boat, it has been on a continuous circumnavigation.
Quick Specifications
Beneteau Grand Trawler 62
Beneteau’s Grand Trawler 62 has 1,000-plus-mile range and 20-knot speed with twin 730 hp i6 MAN diesels . The Grand Trawler 62 is the builder’s flagship in its Trawler series, which also includes the Swift Trawler 35 , Swift Trawler 41 Sedan , Swift Trawler 41 Fly and Swift Trawler 48 . Small touches set the Beneteau Grand Trawler 62 apart. They include sea rails on all lockers to keep stowed food and gear in place, leather-wrapped interior handrails for security in a seaway, and leather drawer pulls like those found on larger yachts. Long-range cruising accommodations include a full-beam master stateroom aft, a forepeak VIP and twin-berth guest stateroom. A Quick X3 gyrostabilizer helps mitigate any potential rocking and rolling on rough days.
Kadey-Krogen 52
The Kadey-Krogen 52 is the trawler-yacht builder’s smallest offering in its raised-pilothouse series, complete with a Portuguese Bridge. Owners can choose from either a two- or three-stateroom layout, and between a single-diesel engine or twin-diesel engines, for owners seeking redundancy. The standard engine is a 231 hp John Deere diesel. With the single-engine setup, draft is 5’5” and with twins it’s a shallower 4’6”. At 6 knots, range is an ocean-crossing 4,850 nautical miles. At 7 knots, it’s 3,300 nm. At 9 knots, it 1,700 nm. The builder states, “The entire Krogen 52 is built from only three molded pieces for maximized structural integrity. There are no additional secondary bonds or caulk joints that can inevitably cause issues. All deck and superstructures are cored and vacuum-bagged to maximize strength while minimizing weight.” Additionally, six longitudinal stringers enhance overall strength.
Bering Yachts B76
Lemanja is the first custom boat that Bering has built in this size range. The yacht is notable for its steel hull and aluminum superstructure, and for its 4,000-nautical-mile-plus range with its twin 404 hp Cummins QSL9 diesel engines. As rugged as the Bering 76 is built on the outside, it also offers homelike comforts in its skylounge inside, offering panoramic views out large windows surrounding the space. Sole-to-ceiling glass offers similar views in the open-plan salon. Accommodations are fox six guests in three staterooms with a master stateroom and two guest staterooms, plus crew accommodations. In addition to its traditional diesel engines, the B76 has a solar-rechargeable battery bank for hybrid propulsion.
Ranger Tugs R-43 Command Bridge
The Ranger Tugs R-43 Command Bridge is a long-distance cruiser with creature comforts. Our expert found the R-43 Command Bridge to be a solid candidate to cruise The Great Loop . We agree. Twin Volvo Penta IPS450 pod drives give the boat efficient low and high cruise speeds at 7 and 18 knots, respectively. For those that have work during their cruise, the R-43 Command bridge’s master stateroom is set up with an office with a desk. Long trips require extra stowage and a way to clean salty clothes, so on the R-43 Command Bridge there is a washer, dryer, auxiliary refrigerator/freezer and stowage under the dinette, which rises on electric rams. Voyagers who buy a R-43 Commander Bridge can opt for a Factory Delivery Experience, which is three days of instruction on Puget Sound, and includes in boat systems, handling and maintenance.
Beneteau Swift Trawler 48
The Beneteau Swift Trawler 48 has a 1,300-nautical-mile range at 8 knots, but can also speed away at 26 knots if the weather goes south in a hurry. Based on the builder’s 47-footer , the three-stateroom, two-head Swift Trawler 48 has a resin-infused fiberglass hull. Power is a pair of 425 hp Cummins diesels. The main-deck layout includes a galley aft setup, which is accessible to the cockpit. There, the seating and dining area can be fully enclosed, with tracks in place for side curtains. The helmsman is kept comfortable on long passages with a bolstered, pedestal bucket-style seat with a flip-up footrest. The Swift Trawler 48 we reviewed had upgraded 12-inch Raymarine HybridTouch displays (9-inch screens are standard).
Kadey-Krogen 50 Open
Designed for serious extended cruising, Kadey-Krogen Yachts 50 Open provides owners with amenities that will enhance those longer passages. The galley is fitted with a Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer, a four-burner Wolf range, a microwave and an optional dishwasher. Unlike in many trawlers and their traditional pilothouse design, the galley is located on the same level as the helm and salon. Belowdecks is the master stateroom amidships with two hanging lockers, 12 cabinets, additional drawers for stowage and an en suite head, shower and two sinks. Forward of the master is an office. The 50 Open’s hull has soft chines and a curved after end, much like the characteristics of a sailboat built for cruising. The result is an efficient hull form that provides a gentle landing into troughs when the sea gets a temper. This trawler can cruise at 6 knots for 5,000 nautical miles; 7 knots for 3,000 nautical miles; 8 knots for 2,100 nautical miles; and 9 knots for 1,200 nautical miles.
Outer Reef 620 Trident
Outer Reef Yachts 620 Trident delivers a three-stateroom layout and optional 600 hp Cummins diesels that allow this vessel to approach a top hop of 21 knots. Cruising speed is a little over 16 knots, burning about 34 gallons of fuel per hour at 2,750 rpm. The amidships master stateroom has 6-foot-8-inch headroom, a walk-in closet and a shower enclosed in smoked glass. In the forepeak VIP stateroom, there are seven drawers, a hanging locker, a 31-inch Samsung TV and 7-foot headroom. The portside guest stateroom can convert to an office, too. The aft galley has a U-shape countertop, a three-burner electric cooktop, a Bosch microwave and a Vitrifrigo refrigerator and freezer. Cherry, walnut and oak are the available wood options.
Grand Banks 60 Skylounge
It’s obvious after a quick peek inside the Grand Banks 60 Skylounge that the Grand Banks Yachts trademark external DNA is retained. The deck, cabin house and skylounge are all composed of infused carbon fiber, reducing weight aloft and creating a lower center of gravity. With twin 900 hp Volvo Penta D13 diesels , the 60 Skylounge can accelerate to 31 knots and cruise at about 25 knots. The 60 Skylounge can also travel up to 2,000 nautical miles at 10 knots on a 1,530-gallon fuel tank. Twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta IPS1200s are also available.
Krogen Express 52
The Krogen Express 52 runs on twin 440 hp Yanmar diesels and can cruise at 8 knots for 1,680 nautical miles or at 16 knots for 500 nautical miles. Top hop: 22 knots. In the interior, Krogen Express has outfitted the 52 with a master stateroom and a guest stateroom. The former has a queen island berth, more than 7-foot headroom, hanging lockers and smaller cubbies to port and to starboard, and an en suite head with a molded fiberglass shower stall with a seat, a VacuFlush toilet and a granite countertop. A power lift elevates the berth and grants access to more stowage underneath. The Krogen Express 52’s salon has a 26-inch HD LED TV and a home-theater system, leather Stressless chairs to port and a built-in, L-shape settee to starboard. The galley boasts granite countertops, a three-burner Force 10 propane range with an oven, a refrigerator, a GE microwave oven, a deep Elkay sink and a pullout sprayer faucet. There is a Buff Ultraleather Stidd helm seat for extra comfort during long runs.
Grand Banks 85 Skylounge
The Grand Banks 85 Skylounge comes in at more than 87 feet length overall and displaces 108,000 pounds, with a 22-plus-foot beam and an air draft of just under 26 feet. Owners can choose either a three- or four-stateroom layout. The standard motors are twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta IPS diesels, twin 1,300 hp MAN straight-shaft diesels are optional. With the larger engines, owners can also choose an optional stern thruster, in addition to the standard bow thruster. With the IPS diesels, top speed is 26.5 knots and fuel burn is 100 gallons per hour, resulting in a range of 699 nautical miles. At a 21-knot cruise speed, fuel consumption drops to 57 gph, and range climbs to 972 nm. At a 9-knot jog, fuel burn falls to 9 gph, and the Grand Banks 85 Skylounge can cruise nonstop for about 2,500 nautical miles.
Vicem 82 Classic Flybridge
The Vicem 82 Classic is a flybridge model built in cold-molded mahogany, which creates a stout hull form with reduced weight. The yacht is notable for its timeless Downeast lines and strong joiner work. For cruising enthusiasts, the Classic 82 Flybridge is powered with twin 900 hp Volvo Penta D13 diesels . The yacht has a top-end speed of 17.8 knots, and the cruising speed is 15 knots. At 9 knots, and considering a 10-percent fuel reserve, range is reportedly 1,100 nautical miles. Accommodations three en-suite-equipped staterooms. The master stateroom is full-beam and amidships with a king-size berth is on centerline. The starboard-side guest stateroom and a forepeak VIP each have queen-size berths.
Outer Reef 610 Motoryacht
Built for an enthusiastic cruising couple after a three-year boat search, the Outer Reef Yachts 610 Motoryacht (part of the builder’s Classic series ), was customized with a fore-and-aft berth in the owners’ stateroom (as in, not athwartships), and berths rather than bunks in the smaller of two guest staterooms. This Outer Reef 610 was designed to be used as a liveaboard vessel, so the salon is not set up for dining (there are tables in the pilothouse, on the aft deck and on the bridge). A pair of swivel chairs in the salon face the built-in couch and the pop-up TV to port. The 610 is built with hand-laid fiberglass, PVC coring above the waterline, resin infusion and a vinylester barrier coat against osmosis. Power is twin 500 hp John Deere 6090 diesels turning ZF transmissions . The 610 tops out at about 13.5 knots with full tanks and 21 people aboard. The engines burn 20 gph at 1,800 rpm for 11 knots at 45 percent engine load. Those numbers should allow it to cross oceans without shortening engine life.
Nordhavn 59 Coastal Pilot
Nordhavn has long been known for its stout circumnavigation -capable craft, and the Nordhavn 59 Coastal Pilot carries on the the tradition of a beefy build with addition of…speed. Twenty-knots-plus, actually. Twin 715 hp Cummins diesel inboards and a new semidisplacement hull form are said to be key to the performance equation. The Nordhavn 59CP has a 777-nautical-mile range at a 9.3-knot cruise, and a 255-nm range at its 20.3-knot top-end. Construction is a solid fiberglass hull bottom supported by full-length longitudinal stringers and a series of transversal supports for added backbone. High freeboard should keep the decks dry in a seaway, while rails keep the crew secure during transits. Nordhavn says the 59CP has a “CE category A unlimited offshore rating, ensuring the vessel has the seakeeping and strength capabilities to take on most serious coastal cruises up to 1,000 miles.”
Marlow Yachts 58E
Following on the successful Marlow 57 , the Marlow 58E was started from scratch on a blank sheet of paper. The essence of the 58E is that it has better performance and more internal and external volume than her predecessor. The centerline length grew 10 inches over the 57, but the waterline length increased 16 inches and the beam widened 4 inches. If you were to examine the two boats out of the water, you would see more bell-shaped forward sections making for a soft impact with the vee’d portion. Power options start with twin 575 hp Caterpillar C9 diesels, but the 58E we got aboard had beefier twin 1,015 hp Caterpillar C18 diesels. Top speed: 27.9 knots. At 8 knots, the Marlow 58E can cruise nonstop for 1,400 nautical miles.
Frequently Asked Questions:
What is a trawler yacht?
A true trawler typically has a full-displacement hull form and robust construction to handle open-water operation, and it’s designed to operate self-sufficiently for long periods of time. They are slow-cruising vessels, but over the years, hybrid yachts called fast trawlers have emerged to offer displacement-speed operation as well as the ability to run at planing speeds when desired.
What is a full-displacement hull form?
A displacement-hull form is known is for its rounded nature and deep draft. Full-displacement vessels do not plane on the water, but rather push through the water. This hull design makes displacement-hull vessels incredibly seakindly, but it also makes them relatively slow (think 5, 6, 7, 8 knots) when compared to semidisplacement- and planning-hull designs.
Is a long-range cruiser the same as a trawler?
While all trawlers are certainly long-range cruisers, not all long-range cruisers are trawlers. True trawlers will have full-displacement hull designs and not all long-range cruisers have them.

Best performance yachts: Our pick of the top options
- Toby Hodges
- March 10, 2023
Toby Hodges takes a look at all the nominees and the winner of the performance yachts 2022 category in the European Yacht of the Year Awards
The European Yacht of the Year awards is the most thorough and impartial awards programme – the winners here are widely considered the best yachts of the year . As such the boats nominated by the jury in the performance yachts category can be considered the best of the best.
This year’s shortlist had the full range. From the more conventional definitive style of performance cruiser to the contemporary French interpretation of a lightweight planing cruiser – and even a new brand of sports catamarans for the thrill seekers.
Three Italian pure performance yachts and two very different yachts built in Slovenia made for a varied and exciting Performance Yachts category.
Best performance yachts
Winner best performance yachts 2023 – beneteau first 36.
Where once we could assume a cruiser-racer was a fairly standard format design, over the last decade it’s been much more the sexy, perormance yachts the Italian yards specialise in. But as French yards like Pogo and JPK have proven, there’s growing enthusiasm for lightweight planing yachts – and the First 36 is the first real production yacht in that spirit.
Here’s a yacht that puts the focus firmly back into sailing. The First 36 has been kept inviting and approachable – unlike many yachts that can plane, the look is modest, not aggressive. It’s uncomplicated, unfussy and the result is a pleasure for all to sail. It’s more about what you can’t see, the design and engineering, which should ensure longterm demand.
The small, fiddly heads compartment and lack of tiller options are perhaps the only real detraction from an otherwise brilliant collaboration by Seascape and Beneteau, from concept to build quality.
It was their goal to keep this area of the market relevant and prove a mainstream brand can do it, rather than only niche specialist yards. To create a mass produced yacht at this weight and to this foam-cored quality and one that can bring so much fun is a feather in the cap of the First brand.
Grand Soleil 40
The Grand Soleil 40 is an archetypal Med cruiser-racer, and an absolute delight to sail – a feature I’ve learned that Matteo Polli designs tend to share (he also drew the Ecoracer). We sailed the race set up with ORC keel (an IRC version is available too) and six winches, an extended bowsprit and a taller mast. It was one of my most memorable trials of the season in 10-12 knots, with the deep and forward positioned rudder giving plenty of control and lovely direct steering.
The three cabin interior can have one or two heads and different galley options, the cabins are a good size with modest stowage, and it’s all tastefully styled by masters Nauta.
Italia yachts 12.98
At 5ft longer and from the board of Cossutti (who Polli once worked under), the Italia Yachts 12.98 is another cruiser-racer in the same grain as the GS40, but with a markedly different looking white interior. We sailed the ‘Bellissima’ cruising version, which 80% of customers have opted for.
Italia’s yard is now in Fano and its one-shot infused vinylester build looks impressive. However, the deck lacks some refinement and practical stowage, while the three cabin interior isn’t voluminous by today’s standards.
This is a slippery yacht that has a lovely, light feel on the single rudder – the interior styling will be the deal breaker for most.
Solaris Yachts on the other hand has perfected its recipe, tripling its yard size to cater to demand for its sexy Acebal-designed performance yachts.
The Solaris 50 we tested in 2015 and which won this award was arguably the turning point that propelled the brand’s popularity. The owner of the new 50 we tested previously had the original 50 and a 58 and confirms this replacement has nearly the same space as the 58, yet is faster, more powerful and stable than its predecessor (we easily matched 7-8 knot winds under gennaker).
It heels onto its chine and accelerates well, while twin rudders provide ample control. The design prioritises helming experience but the yard needs to come up with a better helm seat option. The interior is well executed, especially the spacious forward owner’s cabin.
The Elan E6 is a big 47-footer, high and beamy and one that leans more towards spirited cruising with generous accommodation over racing. That said, extensive options allow you to tailor it either way, including foam cored furniture and a taller carbon mast for those looking for extra oomph.
It’s a fine collaboration between Humphreys Yacht Design, Gurit, Pininfarina and Elan, while an impressive standard spec includes a carbon sprit and six winches.
The E6 is fun to sail at various angles and gives a nice, sporty feel on the helm – it likes to heel but has plenty of grip and tracks well.
The cockpit is deep and comfortable, with good optional protection and there’s ample deck stowage. A really smart three (or four) cabin interior shows a high standard of construction, finish and styling. It is bulky and you pay for the size in weight, but it looks good and Elan knows how to build a great boat for the price.
Best performance yachts 2022
Winner best performance yachts 2022 – jpk 39fc.
Along with fellow Brittany yard Pogo, JPK has redefined the modern performance cruiser: stiff, stable and efficient to the max. For the keen sailor who wants to get the utmost enjoyment out of hands-on cruising, the JPK 39 is a superb design (and to my eye, an appealing one too), while the yard has done a nice job with the vacuum-infused construction and interior fit-out. The two-cabin version we sailed had plenty of stowage too.
It looks different, behaves beautifully and stands up to its canvas, is designed to sail efficiently with a loaded displacement, and has a deck set-up to encourage you to trim it to your heart’s content. My only slight negative is the unnerving mess the cockpit can become as there are so many control lines.
This lightweight blast will best suit experienced sailors and those comfortable with short-handed sailing. And it guarantees smiles.

One such sports catamaran is the IC36, an exciting first offering from a new Czech brand that’s packed with fresh thinking. The first turbo version of this cruising catamaran (Independence) is built using a carbon fibre crossbeam, bowsprit, boards and rudders, epoxy hulls, plus a custom Pauger rotating mast, which all serve to keep weight below three tonnes.
It provided some spirited sailing, particularly when fetching at a measured pace of 10-13.5 knots with the code 0. The direct feel of tiller steering while seated in the low rotating bucket seats was a highlight.
The finish quality in the hulls is first class and there is somehow space for up to eight berths. The coachroof features a retractable bimini and removable vinyl side panels and solar panels, while the cockpit table, which includes an exterior galley, is also removable.
In fact the IC36 can be dismantled to 2.55m beam to make it legally trailable. It has so many options and ideas – too many perhaps – all reflected in the price.
Monohull enthusiasts will share our congratulations to J-Boats for its elegant new flagship. The J/45 won the hearts of the jury and made for a long drawn out decision against the JPK. In the end the two yachts will appeal to different sailors and tastes.
J has stayed true to its roots, yet still managed to bring a current, classy new offering. The unmistakable Alan Johnstone lines have been paired with a contemporary, warm European interior designed by Isabelle Racopeau, while much focus has been paid to the joinerwork and the invisible quality. We saw the two cabin version, which has an excellent technical cabin in place of the second aft cabin.
The J/45 is designed to still perform when loaded with cruising gear. True to J’s reputation, it was a witch upwind and could outpoint anything else during our trials. The compromise is that it won’t plane easily like a JPK or Pogo.
The Solaris 40 is another looker from Soto Acebal and the blue steel metallic hull colour of the test boat made the powerful hull shape really stand out.
We liked the recessed traveller, direct steering to the twin rudders, neat folding helm seats, clutches integrated into the coamings and the easy access to the side decks. However, the jury found the cockpit with its short benches and deck design a little too flat and minimalist.
The interior is smart and contemporary, again offered with two or three cabins with two heads it makes good use of the space.
One of the yachts I was looking forward to sailing most was the Pogo 44, and the only one shortlisted that I didn’t manage to! A collision with the photographer’s RIB shortly before my scheduled trial put it out of action.
However, my colleague Rupert Holmes did a full Pogo 44 test and report on it for Yachting World and describes the 44 as designed to thrill and unlike any other pure cruising yacht of its size. The stability from the beamy hull and deep lifting keel combines brilliantly with the ability to sail fast easily and in comfort. However some jury members didn’t like having to rely on an autopilot to use winches.
The interior is like a loft apartment, with so much natural light – it’s minimalist yet comfortable, spacious and practical for cruising.

Ten upcoming superyacht deliveries to look out for
This year has seen its fair share of spectacular superyacht projects – including Abeking & Rasmussen 's 118.2-metre flagship Liva O and Frei re 's 111.9-metre Renaissance (now one of the most expensive charter yachts on the market). But as 2023 draws to a close, there are still a few new superyachts to look forward to.
From the highly confidential Project Icecap to Tecnomar's recent, radical debut of This Is It , BOAT takes a peek at what's yet to officially emerge from the shed...
Builder: Heesen Length: 58.5m
Ultra G is one of Heesen's most powerful projects yet. With a propulsion package that totals 22,000 horsepower – including four water jets – she can reach an impressive 37 knots in light load conditions. A “sport fisherman in yacht disguise”, Ultra G 's custom design draws on inspiration from two previous sportfishing models built by Heesen in the nineties and features a fighting chair and storage for 40 rods. She's also equipped with a custom Vanquish tender.
Project Jag
Builder: Lürssen Length: 122m
Commissioned by an experienced client as a replacement for his 96-metre, Project Jag is one of the largest superyachts currently under construction (and the owner's third Lürssen). The project bears a number of the same design signatures as his former yachts, including an elongated bowsprit and plenty of al fresco deck space. Exteriors were designed by Nuvolari Lenard while the interiors – courtesy of Reymond Langton – are described as a “beautiful, bespoke homage to the owner's lifestyle”. There will be two staff for every guest on board.
Luminance
Builder: Lürssen Length: 145m
Another powerful-looking Lürssen, Luminance 's classic raked bow and high, brooding superstructure were photographed when she embarked on her sea trials in April. Construction on the mammoth project began in 2018 – but Luminance has since been kept tightly under wraps. Her exterior is known to be Espen Øino -designed, while her interiors have been styled by Francois Zuretti . Once delivered, she'll be the seventh largest Lürssen on the water.
Builder: Moonen Length: 33.9m
A take on the contemporary gentleman's yacht, the Moonen 110 sees René van der Velden and Diana Yacht Design team up once more, having previously worked on the Dutch shipyard's Martinique series. She also takes cues from previous models Moonen 84 and 97. London-based Studio Indigo is behind the yacht's interiors, with "a sweeping spiral staircase using fluted natural timbers" sitting at the heart of the design.
Builder: Heesen Length: 67m
Sparta is based on the yard’s 66-metre Project Avanti – first presented at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2018, the sporty, low-profile design caught the eye of its commissioning owner. Last spotted heading out to sea trials, the 1,200GT superyacht is Heesen's largest steel construction to date and has been styled inside and out by British studio Winch Design . Her interiors are said to follow an elemental theme with different sections dedicated to water, earth and air.
Project Icecap
Builder: Lürssen Length: 107m
When she was revealed last summer at Lürssen’s Wolgast yard, it was clear that Project Icecap was shaping up to be a very capable explorer yacht. With an axe-style bow and the superstructure well forward, the yacht should punch safely through big seas, while offering big cargo-carrying capacity on the open aft deck. Owner’s rep Moran Yacht & Ship described the boat as "diesel-electric powered", while an ice-classed hull, heli-hangar and forward observation lounge are also on the spec sheet.
Builder: Rossinavi Length: 59.4m
Rossinavi's first ever explorer yacht, Akula was rolled out of the shed in June sporting a striking scarlet hull by Gian Paolo Nari . Once delivered, she'll support "marine research activities and philanthropic projects" with her variety of diving equipment, custom open-air observation deck and two six-metre containers which act as transportable science labs. Fitted with diesel-electric propulsion, Akula also has "optimised fuel consumption" for a lower environmental impact during long periods of time at sea.

Lazzara Yachts News
Best Motor Yacht of the Year 2023
We are delighted to announce that Lazzara LSX 67 Limited Edition received 2 of the most prestigious yacht design awards for ”Motor Yacht Under 25 Meters” and ”Master Cabin Design ” at The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2023.
The award pays testament to the Lazzara LSX 67 unique design features, notably the full-beam master suite with direct access to an aft deck entertainment area and beach club. The Lazzara Limited Edition LSX 67 is the only yacht in her class to offer such an arrangement.
This year the yacht & aviation industries gathered at The Belmond Hotel, Cipriani in Venice for the annual International Yacht & Aviation Awards ceremony. As the only event focusing on both of these sectors, the Yacht & Aviation Awards Ceremony 2023 announced the best yacht and aviation design projects of 2023, surrounded by the culture and inspiration of Venice.
About the Winner - the Lazzara LSX 67 Limited Edition:
The Lazzara Limited Edition LSX 67 has been designed as the ultimate ‘sport express yacht’. At 67-feet, (20.42m), this vessel leads the way with eye-catching style, exceptional quality, and exhilarating performance. With a striking exterior profile and innovative arrangement, this yacht will not go unnoticed.
In a revolutionary design move, the full-beam master suite has direct access to an aft deck entertainment area and beach club. The Lazzara Limited Edition LSX 67 is the only yacht in her class to offer such an arrangement. The exceptionally large master suite affords the owner uninterrupted views of their surroundings on both port and starboard sides, as well as aft from the cabin via the full beam sliding glass door.
The beach club space is extended further by fold-down balconies on the port and starboard sides, the largest in this class of yacht, creating an expansive aft deck and terraces at the water’s edge. A social seating arrangement makes this area a fantastic spot for entertaining and the platforms facilitate easy access to and from the water.
Polished stainless steel and teak railings are just one example of the exterior design details that set the Lazzara Limited Edition LSX 67 apart. Combine this with superyacht interior finishes and materials, and she becomes a floating piece of art.

Best Yachts – Top 15 Picks for 2024
Carver 52 Command Bridge
Hatteras M75 Panacera
Sabre 58 Salon Express
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a yacht? Probably those huge luxury cruisers reserved for the high society folks, right? Well, that’s true, but those are a special group of ships referred to as luxury yachts.
The questions you need to be asking are – What is a yacht? At what point is a yacht regarded as a ship? And, what exactly makes a yacht a yacht? Here’s a little boating lesson for you.
A yacht is any fast cruising watercraft used for pleasure or sport. Yachts can be classified into cruisers, superyachts, and mega yachts. The difference between them all boils down to their respective sizes.
Luxury vessels that are less than 12 meters long fall in the class of cabin cruiser yachts – or simply, cruisers. Those that measure more than 24 meters are classified as superyachts. Anything that’s 50+ meters long is a mega yacht. Anything larger than a mega yacht is generally referred to as a ship and generally describes a working vessel as opposed to something recreational.
So, as you can see, you don’t necessarily have to be swimming in a ton of money to become a yacht owner. The only difference will be in the size of the craft you get. Clear enough?
Without further ado, here are the 15 best yachts, as well as a few useful tips on how to choose the best one.
Top on our list of best yachts is the Carver 52 Command Bridge. Its unique design, spacious salon, expansive foredeck seating area, and well-thought-out amenities make this one the best yachts bar-none.

How to Choose the Best Yachts – Buyer’s Guide
A yacht is a pretty big purchase. So, you need to know what to look for when choosing the right one for your needs. Here are a couple of pointers that might come in handy.
Type of Yacht
The type of yacht you buy depends in large part on your intended use for it. Most yachts tend to fall into one of three categories – For water sports like wakeboarding , fishing motor yachts, or the overnight cruising variety. Once you know what kind of recreational activities you plan on engaging in, that should help narrow down your choices.
Next, you need to consider what size of yacht you should get. Do you have a young family that you intend to expand in the coming years? Do you plan to use the vessel for day cruising, or do you intend to spend a couple of nights on board from time to time?
Will the yacht be just for you and your significant other, or do you plan to frequently entertain several guests on board? This will advise whether you should buy a cabin cruiser yacht, a superyacht, or a mega yacht.
In a perfect world, you would have all the money you need to buy any kind of watercraft you want. Sadly, that’s not the reality we live in. Keep in mind that yachts don’t exactly come cheap. So, even if you’re planning to purchase a small yacht, you’ll still need to spend quite a bit of cash to get it.
The best thing to do would be to set a budget and compare the different models on offer from different manufacturers . Aside from the boat’s purchase price, you also need to think about the costs associated with owning a yacht. These include insurance, repairs, maintenance, cleaning, and the vessel’s general servicing.
Figure out what kind of comfort and convenience features are a must-have for you. How many cabins should it have? Do you need it to have a summer grill up top? Or will the one in the mini kitchen below-deck suffice? Ensure that the yacht you get has all the amenities you need.
Last but not least, before you sign any purchase contract, ensure that you schedule a sea trial with the dealer. That way, you get a true feel for the boat before you buy it.
Look Before You Leap
If you’re in the market for a shiny new yacht, any of the 15 vessels we’ve detailed in this guide will make an excellent choice. Do your homework beforehand, and make sure your desired craft has all the features and amenities you seek.
Use the tips we’ve outlined in this guide to help you choose the best yachts from all the different options that are hot on the market right now. Happy yachting!

Best yacht 2023: European yacht of the year winners
By toby hodges, the european yacht of the year 2023 winners have been announced and comprise the best yacht winners in five categories including a special mention award. toby hodges was one of the 12 jury members who test sailed each of the 21 shortlisted yachts before deciding on the winners..
The European Yacht of the Year programme is a highlight of my year as it gives us jury members the opportunity to assemble our shortlist of the best nominees, seatrial each and every one of them and discuss what works and what doesn’t at sea and in port, in order to choose the best yacht of 2023 in a variety of categories. Our trials were held in La Rochelle and Port Ginesta, Barcelona over the autumn of 2022.
This is the 20th anniversary of the European Yacht of the Year awards, which were presented at a gala event on the opening evening of the boot Düsseldorf Boat Show on 21 January 2023.
Together we comprise 12 magazines across Europe, each the leading voice on boat testing in their respective countries. The result is indisputably the most thorough, impartial and respected awards programme for new production yachts worldwide.
Best Luxury Cruiser
Winner: oyster 495.
It is hard to imagine that the decor of a yacht can change its look and feel quite this much, yet the layout of this second 495, Eddie Jordan’s dramatic looking Tuga, is in fact identical to the first boat that I spent several days aboard last summer. At its heart is a wonderfully (Humphreys) designed and engineered luxury bluewater cruiser conceived from the ground up, built in a new dedicated facility to a repeatable quality very few yards are capable of.
The 495 offers consistent passage making speeds in real voluminous comfort – whether enjoyed from the deep cockpit or the best-in-class aft cabin. Deck stowage and mechanical space is also superb. Then factor in the family appeal of Oyster’s after sales and world rally programme and you start to appreciate the premium world this sub 50-footer gives access to.
Price: (ex VAT) £1.35m
Jury comments

“A true blue water cruiser that makes no compromise in terms of comfort, safety or sailing abilities.” Loic Madeline, France
“The entry level of the Oyster range brings with it the build quality and customisation typical of the yard’s largest models… perfect for a couple’s globetrotting dreams.” Alberto Mariotti, Italy

First refuelling for Russia’s Akademik Lomonosov floating NPP
!{Model.Description}
The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactor units. In such reactors, nuclear fuel is not replaced in the same way as in standard NPPs – partial replacement of fuel once every 12-18 months. Instead, once every few years the entire reactor core is replaced with and a full load of fresh fuel.
The KLT-40S reactor cores have a number of advantages compared with standard NPPs. For the first time, a cassette core was used, which made it possible to increase the fuel cycle to 3-3.5 years before refuelling, and also reduce by one and a half times the fuel component in the cost of the electricity produced. The operating experience of the FNPP provided the basis for the design of the new series of nuclear icebreaker reactors (series 22220). Currently, three such icebreakers have been launched.
The Akademik Lomonosov was connected to the power grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020.
Electricity generation from the FNPP at the end of 2023 amounted to 194 GWh. The population of Pevek is just over 4,000 people. However, the plant can potentially provide electricity to a city with a population of up to 100,000. The FNPP solved two problems. Firstly, it replaced the retiring capacities of the Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya Thermal Power Plant, which is more than 70 years old. It also supplies power to the main mining enterprises located in western Chukotka. In September, a 490 km 110 kilovolt power transmission line was put into operation connecting Pevek and Bilibino.

The 11 Best Long Range Electric Cars on the Market (2024)
Posted: December 12, 2023 | Last updated: December 12, 2023
We know electric vehicles are the future of automotives. But what is less known is what are the best electric cars on the market? The largest anxiety that potential buyers of electric vehicles (EV) face is the amount of distance these cars can travel on a single charge. Though the average American drives fewer than 40 miles per day, the ability to take a longer road trip, to visit friends or family, or go on a vacation, is akin to a national right. A recent survey by Bloomberg suggests that we want around 300 miles of range to alleviate our anxieties , which is about one third more than the global average.
Just five years ago, many of the most popular EV options (outside of Tesla)—like the Nissan Leaf, Mini Electric, VW E-Golf—achieved only around 100 miles of range. Fortunately, many automakers are now building EVs that can traverse several times that span before requiring more juice. And these vehicles come in many shapes, sizes, and price points, so there should be something for everyone.
Here are 11 of our favorite EVs with over 250 miles(ish) of range, presented here in increasing order of capability. (Range and price are for the specific highest range model noted. Other options may be available.)

NASCAR at Bristol odds, predictions, start time: Model gives surprising 2024 Food City 500 picks, leaderboard
Sportsline simulated the 2024 food city 500 at bristol motor speedway 10,000 times and revealed its nascar at bristol leaderboard.
Kyle Larson did not crack the top 10 at the Shriners Children's 500 last week, but he is still atop the NASCAR Cup Series standings heading into the 2024 Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET. Larson (21-4) is priced behind Denny Hamlin and Christopher Bell, who are 5-1 co-favorites in the 2024 Food City 500 odds. The previous three years of NASCAR at Bristol spring races were run on dirt, but they will return to concrete this week. Larson has the best average finishing position at Bristol (2.7) since 2021, leading 229 laps during that span.
Hamlin has three straight top-10 finishes on Bristol concrete, while Bell is coming off a win in Phoenix last week. Which drivers should you include in your 2024 Food City 500 bets? Before scouring the 2024 Food City 500 starting lineup and making any 2024 NASCAR at Bristol predictions, be sure to see the latest 2024 Food City 500 picks from SportsLine's proven projection model .
Developed by daily Fantasy pro and SportsLine predictive data engineer Mike McClure, this proprietary NASCAR prediction model simulates every race 10,000 times, taking into account factors such as track history and recent results.
McClure's model was red-hot in 2023, nailing Martin Truex Jr.'s Clash win (20-1) as well as his win in New Hampshire (11-2), Joey Logano's Duel win (8-1), Kyle Busch's Fontana victory (10-1), Denny Hamlin's triumph in Kansas (6-1) and Kyle Larson's wins at Martinsville (6-1) and the NASCAR All-Star Race (13-2). The model correctly predicted winners in two of the playoff races as well, with Ryan Blaney scoring a 12-1 payout at Talladega and Larson winning at 9-2 in Las Vegas.
Then it called its first winner of the 2024 season with Larson in Las Vegas again two weeks ago, scoring a 21-5 payout for SportsLine subscribers. It also impressively nailed five of Larson's wins during his historic season in 2021. All told, the model has nailed a whopping 16 winners since 2021, including nine last year alone. Anyone who followed its lead on those NASCAR picks saw huge returns.
Now, the model simulated the 2024 Food City 500 10,000 times. Head to SportsLine to see the complete projected NASCAR at Bristol leaderboard .
Top 2024 Food City 500 predictions
For the 2024 Food City 500, the model is high on Kyle Busch, even though he's a 15-1 longshot in the latest 2024 NASCAR at Bristol odds. He's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Busch has finished 20th or worse in his last three races at Bristol, with zero laps led during that stretch.
However, he has been highly successful at this track throughout his career, posting seven top-four finishes in an eight-race stretch prior to 2021. He won three races at Bristol during that span and added a pair of runner-up finishes. Busch has eight wins at this track in his career, ranked fifth in NASCAR history, so the model thinks he has too much value to pass on this week.
Another massive shocker: Christopher Bell, one of the top Vegas favorites, stumbles big-time and barely cracks the top five. There are far better values in the 2024 Food City 500 starting lineup. Bell was a winner at Bristol Motor Speedway on the dirt last spring and only one of his seven career wins in the NASCAR Cup Series has come on a short track.
Bell has led 330 laps in the last two races on concrete at Bristol, but failed to take the checkered flag on both occasions and the model doesn't see value on Bell as one of the betting favorites. Even with Joe Gibbs Racing's success at Bristol historically, Fords have won three of the last five races there on concrete. See which other drivers to avoid and the rest of the projected NASCAR leaderboard at SportsLine .
How to make 2024 NASCAR at Bristol picks
The model is also targeting two other drivers with 2024 NASCAR Bristol odds of 15-1 or longer to make a serious run at the checkered flag. Anyone who backs these drivers could hit it big. You can see all of the model's NASCAR picks over at SportsLine .
So who wins the Food City 500 2024, and which longshots are a must-back? Check out the latest 2024 NASCAR at Bristol odds below, then visit SportsLine now to see the full projected 2024 NASCAR at Bristol leaderboard, all from the model that has nailed 16 winners .
