On the Mediterranean coast of Turkey lies the city of Kalkan . A charming vacation destination with plenty to offer in terms of beaches and historical sites, Kalkan is a lovely stop during a luxury yacht cruise in Turkey.

History of Kalkan

Greek traders were the first to settle in Kalkan, but they were so successful that other Greek and Turkish settlers followed. Kalkan’s harbor was also an incentive because it was the only hospitable and safe harbor between Fethiye and Kas.

Kalkan goods, such as silk, cotton, olive oil, grapes, sesame seeds, and timber, were traded with other parts of the Ottoman Empire, including Lebanon, Syria, Cyprus, and Egypt.

Kalkan continued to prosper in trade well into the 20th century, but, as with all of Turkey, the founding of the Turkish Republic in the 1920s brought changes to the area. Greek residents left for Greece and Australia, and Turks living in Turkey began to move to Kalkan.

Tourism began to overtake trade in the 1960s as yacht charters began to travel through the area, and today, charter yachts with private charter yacht guests visiting ashore eating in the local restaurants and buying in the local shops continues to be the main source of revenue for the city.

Kalkan is a great place to enjoy a relaxing stroll surrounded by bright, cheerful coastal colors, to taste incredibly fresh local food with a seaside view, or to shop for souvenirs. Lovely streets with white buildings and bright flowers contain restaurants and shops within easy walking distance of the harbor.

Venture into nature

Beyond the gorgeous view from a private yacht of Kalkan’s harbor and coastline, other nature excursions are available. Kayak up the Dalyan River or explore the natural beauty of Kalkan’s surrounding areas by hiking the gorge at Saklikent.

Kaputas Beach, about five minutes from the city center of Kalkan (or an easy approach from the sea), is a pebble-studded beauty with postcard-worthy cliffs and the incredibly bright blue water. Enjoy a long walk on the beach or an invigorating swim in the warm ocean waters.

Sail to Patara, about 20 minutes away from Kalkan, for a quieter and more private experience. With soft, powdery sand, many food and drink options, and the benefits of these lesser-known-than-Kalkan’s beaches, Patara is a pleasant afternoon jaunt. History lovers will enjoy the nearby Lycian ruins that reveal stories about Patara’s past. As with every lovely coastal village along the southern coast of Turkey that was once the ancient trading route, there is always the lovely coast, beaches, the village with restaurants and shops, mixed in with ancient history and ruins.

“Today was one of the best days of our holiday as we spent it on Yildiz3 with Captain Adem and his family. The boat is wonderful and as they only take up to 15 people, it's nice and personal. Their Hospitality is second to none and the whole day is just one big relaxing one. Stopping around the bays of Kalkan, with plenty of swimming along with the best lunch we've had on a boat trip. Cake, fruit and hot drinks were a pleasant surprise. A must for everyone ☺”

WELCOME TO YILDIZ

We are two brothers Osman and Adem Yildiz (Star) we have two boats ,Kalkan Yildiz-2 and Kalkan Yildiz-3.Both boats are around the same size 15m long,4:50m wide.Yildiz -2 with 2 cabins and Yildiz -3 with 3 cabins,automatic electric flushing hygienic toilets,fully equipped kitchens where our wives prepare wonderful freshly cooked food for lunch.We work together with our wives Zeynep with Osman and Ilkay with Adem. YILDIZ-2 capacity is just 12 persons for public trips and private. YILDIZ-3 capacity is 22 persons but we take maximum 16 persons for public trips with comfort the most important not like a school bus that you will find with some boat trips! YILDIZ-3 has 18 sunbeds on the deck. Both boats have washroom and shower facilities,Music players,sitting area and sundeck which can be open or shaded to suit your wishes.Please note you are most welcome to bring along your own Music box. Both boats have comfortable step type ladders for entering and leaving the water. Both boats carry safety equipment in accordance with IMO (International Maritime Organization) and SOLAS ( Safety Life At Sea) regulations

We are a family business. My wife and I met whilst we were both studying economics at the prestigious Dokuz Eylul University of Izmir, Turkey. During the summer holidays, I started providing boat trips on my family’s boat in Kas and I was hooked. There was no going back! Straight after graduation I decided to follow my passion for boating and I have had no regrets. Fortunately my wife also has a deep love for the sea and is an essential member of our crew.

What an amazing day with Captain Ergun and his crew! I booked a private tour on a very nice and spacious gulet and to our surprise we were 'upgraded' to a huge boat that could hold up to 100 people 🤩! We have done a lot in Turkey – the amazing buildings in Istanbul, Konak Pier in Izmir, Cesme Beach, Bergama and Efes ruins, fantastic fish market food in Fethiye, Oludeniz Beach/Blue Lagoon, Patara Beach but the day we spent with Ergun and his wife has been the highlight. Lovely, knowledgeable, obliging hosts. I can’t rate this highly enough. Only 6 people on the cruise.. Thanks Captain Ergun – let us know when you have an espresso machine and a masseur on board and we’ll be back in a flash!

Day boat cruise from Kas Marina

This was an absolutely magical experience. We ventured in February, so we didn't swim or snorkel. But we basically had a whole boat to ourselves. All the positive reviews are true: Cpt. Ergun answered all of our questions and showed us the most beautiful hidden bays and ancient ruins. He shared some fascinating history facts about the area and then let us enjoy the view on our own. What is more, Cpt. Ergun took breathtaking photographs using his drone and kindly sent them to us. Lastly, we had a top-notch lunch on the boat, masterfully cooked by the deck officer Ali. I knew that lunch was included in the itinerary, but I had not expected a proper feast! It was delicious! This boat trip is the one to remember. Definitely would recommend it everyone!
