With a galley consisting of a sink, a single ceramic burner, and a countertop, plus a head featuring a crystal shower unit, glass sink, and carbon toilet, the Wider is fully equipped for most essential party ingredients. Proving the old adage that size isn’t everything, the Bayliner XR7 Boat is a modest, user-friendly deck boat that is deceptively spacious with a rated capacity of 16 people despite being just 25 feet long. This is achieved by Bayliner’s utilization of an expanded version of the cathedral-like “M-hull” hull design featured across the Element range. American Express card data exposed in third-party breach

American Express Co. has told an undisclosed number of cardholders that their account information may have been breached in a recent hacking of a merchant processor. 

Current and previously issued American Express Card account numbers, expiration dates and customer names may have been compromised, AmEx stated in a  notice filed last week with Massachusetts regulators. 

"A third party service provider engaged by numerous merchants experienced unauthorized access to its system," Anneke Covell, AmEx's vice president, U.S. & AENB privacy, stated in the notice. "American Express owned or controlled systems were not compromised by this incident." 

AmEx said it's actively monitoring the potentially impacted accounts for fraud, and stressed customers are not liable for fraudulent charges. The New York-based financial services company urged customers to review their accounts for fraudulent activity, sign up to get instant notifications of potential suspicious activity and to make sure their contact information is current. 

There are different circumstances under which financial institutions may report incidents, according to AmEx, which cited a blog  post  on the Massachusetts state website. "For example, a financial institution may report an incident that occurred at a retailer where the consumer used their bank-issued card," the company said.

In responding to a request for further comment, AmEx declined to disclose the number of those potentially impact nor the geographical reach of the breach.

"The incident that you are inquiring about occurred at a merchant processor and was not an attack on American Express or an American Express service provider, as some media outlets have erroneously reported. Because customer data was impacted, American Express provided notice of the incidents to Massachusetts agencies and impacted customers who reside in Massachusetts," a spokesperson stated in an email.

"We have sophisticated monitoring systems and internal safeguards in place to help detect fraudulent and suspicious activity. If we see there is unusual activity that may be fraud, we will take protective actions," the spokesperson noted.

In a Land of Lavish Weddings, This Prenuptial Party Takes the Cake

A three-day pre-wedding ceremony for the son of one of India’s richest men raises the bar for extravagant festivity.

When a member of one of India’s wealthiest families gets married, big-name guests and showstopping pomp and circumstance are nothing unusual. But it’s not every day that the invitees include royalty, business titans, Bollywood luminaries and Rihanna, for three days of a pre-wedding spectacular, months ahead of the actual ceremony.

The lavish festivities that got underway on Friday for Anant Ambani, whose father heads Reliance Industries, have seized public attention in India despite — or perhaps because of — how they underscore gaping inequality in a country that has enjoyed economic growth yet where millions still live in profound poverty.

Mr. Ambani, 28, the younger son of Mukesh Ambani , will welcome the guests at a sprawling venue in the western Indian state of Gujarat, along with his fiancée, Radhika Merchant. Ms. Merchant, 29, comes from a family that owns health care businesses and is trained in Indian classical dance.

The couple started the festivities earlier this week with a community feast: hosting thousands of people from neighboring villages and serving them Gujarati delicacies.

But for the main event starting Friday night, more than 1,000 guests, including some of the world’s richest people, are expected. Notable invitees include Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg of Meta and Bob Iger of Walt Disney; present and former prime ministers of Canada, Sweden and Qatar; the king and queen of Bhutan; and Bollywood stars Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit. Among the luxurious touches planned are chartered flights for the guests and people available to iron their clothes or help apply their makeup.

The guest list is part of the pageantry. Guests are not just (or not even) friends, but attractions in their own right. Apart from enjoying the spectacle, many will appreciate the chance to sidle up to India’s most influential business family at the bar. For instance, Nita Ambani, Mukesh Ambani’s wife, is reportedly poised to become board chairwoman of the company created by a recent merger of Reliance with Walt Disney’s Indian media assets.

There is precedent for extravagant Ambani nuptials. At a ceremony for Anant’s sister in 2018, two former U.S. secretaries of state in attendance, Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, both reportedly danced to bhangra , a type of pop music from India’s Punjab region.

This time, the Ambani family has commissioned female artisans from the region to weave handmade scarves as gifts to the guests and a tribute to Indian heritage. Dozens of specialty chefs will prepare dishes, the estimated number of which ranges from 500 to 2,500, according to some media accounts.

The average annual salary in India is about $2,750, but lavish feasts are a regular part of Indian weddings, even for people of modest means. The Ambanis are splashing out like any other family — though on an entirely different scale.

A video invitation that has gone viral lays out the agenda. Day 1’s theme is “An Evening in Everland,” and the dress code is “elegant cocktail.” On Day Two, “Walk on the Wild Side,” guests are requested to wear animal-print clothing ahead of an evening of dance and music.

Comfortable footwear is suggested on the final day, when guests will tour an animal rescue, rehabilitation and conservation project that is a favorite charitable undertaking of the groom.

That evening, dressed in traditional Indian clothes, guests will witness “Hastakshar,” the signing ceremony between the couple, at a temple.

The actual wedding is not until July. It’s probably going to be fancy too.

Taiwan on Saturday warned off Chinese coast guard ships that entered its restricted waters near frontline islands close to China for a second day in a row, as tensions simmer across the sensitive Taiwan Strait.

Taiwan’s coast guard said four Chinese coast guard boats on Saturday morning entered the restricted waters of Taiwan-controlled Kinmen islands, which hug the Chinese coast.

It said the Chinese boats stayed just over an hour after Taiwan authorities asked them to leave.

China claims democratically-governed Taiwan as its own territory, over the island’s strong objections.

It has stepped up military activities near Taiwan in recent years, with almost daily incursions into air defence identification zones.

“You have entered our country’s restricted waters. Please turn around immediately,” a Taiwan official said via radio in a broadcast message to their Chinese counterparts, according to footage released on Saturday by Taiwan’s coast guard.

The footage shows a Taiwan coast guard boat tracking the movement of two Chinese ships in the near distance.

“The move has seriously impacted traffic and safety. To avoid triggering naval incidents we urge them to stop such behaviours,” Taiwan’s coast guard said in a statement.

There was no immediate comment from China’s coast guard, which does not have publicly available contact details.

China’s coast guard conducted patrols near the Kinmen Islands on Friday as well, with four Chinese coast guard boats being warned away by their Taiwanese counterparts, according to Taiwan’s official Central News Agency.

Last month, China’s coast guard began regular patrols around Kinmen, after two Chinese nationals died while trying to flee Taiwan’s coast guard after their boat entered prohibited waters.

Taiwan dispatched coast guard boats on Thursday to join a  rescue mission  at China’s request after a Chinese fishing vessel capsized near the Kinmen islands.

Taiwan’s government has stressed the importance of co-operation between Taiwan and China amid the heightened tensions.

On Friday, Taiwan also sent several boats at China’s request to help search for a Chinese fisherman who went overboard near the Taiwan-controlled Matsu islands, in the northern end of the Taiwan Strait.

A senior Taiwan security official, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, told Reuters that Beijing is sending out “confusing” messages by continuing its harassment of Taiwan, while also asking for Taipei’s assistance on dealing with maritime incidents.

The official said the latest moves by the Chinese coast guard in Kinmen “did not carry substantial security threats” but complicated the situation there.

“We are clueless,” the official said. “We tried to save their fishermen yesterday and today they are baring their teeth and claws.”

Last week, Taiwan’s top China policy-making body urged its giant neighbour not to change the “status quo” in waters near Kinmen by sending coast guard boats into restricted areas.
