2001 Hunter Helsen Signature 470 This special offering is likely the most expensive yacht ever built by Helsen and Hunter at a cost of over $700,000 to build, and her name is Belle Ile!  One of two ever built and the only one on the resale market. The Signature 470 has 167 upgrades from the Hunter 460 model. Here is the history of the Hunter-Helsen Signature 470.  Johannes Jopie Helsen turned the stock 46-foot Hunter Sailboat into an elegant high end cruising yacht at Sailor's Wharf, his boatyard on Salt Creek in St. Petersburg. One of the most dramatic changes is in the hull itself. Helen cut off the transom of the production boat and designed a new sugar scoop that adds 1.5-feet to the overall waterline, giving the boat better performance and an updated look. The extended transom also provides a platform for diving and swimming. The trailing edge of the keel is faired for good upwind performance. Other upgrades include a stainless steel and vinyl rub rail, an Awlgrip paint system in custom colors, a 22-karat gold leaf sheer stripe, Harken hardware, electric halyard winch and a steel cockpit arch. Helsen worked with Mark Pooch of Doyle Sails in Clearwater to produce a performance sail package and added 100 square feet to the sail plan. The upgraded interior is elegant ash and teak with a teak and holly sole. The interior features an entertainment system that includes multiple flat-screen televisions. Stainless steel hatches and ports have custom shades that convert to screens. The master stateroom berth has a thick custom mattress made in California specifically for the Signature 470.   Corian custom counters and faucets with gold accents were added. The Signature 470 has 167 upgrades from the standard Hunter 46. Belle Ile is Helsen's masterpiece with a rich dark forest green Awlgrip hull. The three stateroom, two head layout provides perfect accommodations for two couples with some grandkids included. The bimini and dodger will keep you shaded from the sun and have zip in sections to keep you dry when it rains. Swing out speaker so you can listen to music while you swim and a ladder to get you back on-board. She has an anchor with plenty of rode to keep you in place. Down below you will find a full galley with stainless sink, alcohol 2 burner stove, cooler, microwave, 1000 watt inverter, and huge dual voltage refrigerator. The salon features fold out table, seating for 6, a television with boosted antenna, dvd player, am/fm cd player with bluetooth. She can sleep 4 comfortably (2 in the v-berth and 2 in the quarter berth), or 6 if you use the salon benches. The rear quarter berth has a hanging closet and drawers. Auxilary power, accomodations, calculations.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Classic hull speed formula:

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

• SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
• D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Ballast / Displacement * 100

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

• D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
• LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )

• D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
• LOA: Length overall in feet
• Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet

Capsize Screening Formula

This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.

Extremely comfortable and capable cruiser.  Recent health issues dictate that the owner of this three cabin, shoal draft Hunter 466 sell her as soon as possible.  Bring all realistic offers!

Dream Chaser is a fantastic value but she does have some ongoing projects that need to be completed to get her back to 100%.  The vessel sustained some gel coat blistering on the port side cabin top and gunnel due to a nearby boat fire several years ago.  The hull sides and decks did not receive any damage.  The gel coat  damage is non-structural and cosmetic in nature.   Take a look at the photos and see for yourself,  it's certainly in the realm of a competent  DIY'er. 

She is just finishing some boatyard work 12/2018, and is scheduled to launch on 12/11/18 .  Act now, and save some money on a haul out by inspecting her while she is out of the water.

The Hunter 466 features a three-stateroom layout with 2 guest staterooms aft and a forward master suite with full 6' 6" standing headroom, a center-line Queen-size berth, and drawers beneath. Additionally, the master suite offers dual cedar-lined hanging lockers and a head to port with a separate stall shower to starboard. Her master?s stateroom rivals those in yachts twice her size. Two doors open to the main salon, where spacious dinette seating around a high-gloss teak table and to starboard, "Club" style lounge seats w/cocktail table between give guests a comfortable space in which to read and relax. Next aft is a comfortable nav station with plenty of space for electronics and gear followed by a second head w/shower allowing easy access from both the cockpit. To port is the large galley with island w/front/top opening frig and separate freezer. Next aft are the two-aft guest staterooms (use one as a store room if needed).

A classic L-shaped galley insures efficient food preparation, with ample Corian counter tops, and the huge top and front opening refrigerator will hold many weeks worth of groceries. There's a separate lighted top loading freezer and a convenient center line island that houses double stainless steel sinks. Cooking is via her Force 10 propane stove and oven, and a bulkhead mounted microwave. Dishes, mugs and glasses have their own dedicated storage, handily located between the main salon and the galley.

Below is a list of known issues with the boat as of 12/5/2018.  I believe that all of the following items could be handled by a competent DIY buyer.  All of these issues can be seen firsthand in the photo gallery.   Of course other deficiencies will come up in a survey, but these are the items known to me at this time. 

As always, a full inspection should be arranged to verify the following information. 

• Approximately 18 ft section of port side gunnel and vertical coach roof sustained gel coat bubbling due to nearby boat fire.  The gelcoat in this section needs to be sanded smooth, faired and re-gelcoated or painted..  One dead light is opaque due to heat damage.  The hull and deck do not exhibit any signs of damage.   See photos of Port Side Deck. 
• There is a 6 inch gelcoat repair needed on the starboard side sugar scoop transom.  See photos of transom.
• There are some isolated areas in the galley that are showing some water staining.  The galley cabinets need to be refinished. 
• The Raymarine C120 chartplotter screen is damaged.  It needs to be repaired or replaced.  
• Raymarine Wind System needs new Transducer
• A properly sized anchor should be purchased.
• The starboard lead wing on the keel is bent upwards.
• Several general decks leaks

Versatility best describes the Hunter 466.

Whether owners want to cross oceans or bays, bang around the buoys or just liveaboard, this boat has the capacity to do it all. The dinette area is large enough to handle the crew, but intimate enough for just two. Storage is plentiful as is the natural light and ventilation. Hand-rubbed teak and exquisite fabrics are in evidence throughout the grand interior. An innovative forward head arrangement splits the shower and head so both can be used at once. A large dual-opening refrigerator and freezer are central to the U-shaped galley. The Force 10 stove and oven, plus a microwave will make dinners a joy to prepare, while the island sink will have cleanup covered. Storage for everything is at hand including the recessed trash receptacle. The forward master stateroom rivals most yachts twice her size. Twin hanging lockers and lots of drawers make staying aboard easy and a great night's sleep is guaranteed by the innerspring mattresses. Entertaining is gracious with the open salon which incorporates a TV and CD stereo. Twin comfortable seats and a convertible cocktail table are located just forward of the extensive nav station with plenty of space for electronics and gear. Aft, owners have a choice of two layouts: dual staterooms or trade one in for an office / work area. Both are large, airy and comfortable.
