Enjoy day-sailing adventures along the Kona Coast of Hawai'i. Visitors & kamaina are welcome to join Aloha Sailing club and have practically unlimited use of our fleet of easy to handle sailboats. Are you a sailor at heart? Would you enjoy a peaceful afternoon listening to the wind in the rigging, waves lapping against the side of the boat? Or how about a few hours of action packed buoy racing? Aloha Sailing club maybe what you’re looking for. Experience the fun of sailing without the all the responsibility and cost that goes with owning a boat…initial outlay for the purchase, storing it and repairing it. Join Aloha Sailing and enjoy the benefits of sailing. Leave the repairs and maintenance of outboard motors, rigging, or new sails to our professional staff. All aspects of the boats are maintained to be safe and functional. Periodic upgrades of sails and gear are all covered in the cost of your membership. Your only cost is equivalent to what it would cost you to park your own boat on a monthly basis. If you ever can’t make use of the boat any longer, you don’t have to worry about selling your boat, you just quit the club. So for “no worries” sailing, join us! Aloha Sailing Club offers affordable sailing opportunities to both experienced sailors and novices by providing boats to use for certified sailors who don’t own a boat of their own, or lessons and sailing experiences for novices who want to learn how to sail better. Aloha SC facilitates the goals of our members who want to someday captain one of our boats, charter boats elsewhere, or buy their own boat, and already be a proficient sailor. For others their goal might just be, to be a good, knowledgeable crew. We expect an experienced captain to be proficient in the following basic skills, and we instruct our novice members in these same skills. 1. Knots Vocabulary 2. Setting up the boat properly 3. Leaving and returning to the slip/harbor 4. Sailing into the harbor/dock under sail alone (in case engine dies) 5. Launching and retrieving to a trailer 6. Various points of sail: beating, reaching, and running, etc. 7. Handling the motor 8. Man overboard drills 9. Safety at sea: taking care of your boat, and crew 10. Anchoring/picking up moorings 11. Heaving to 12. Reefing 13. Changing jibs/knowing when to change jibs 14. Heavy weather sailing These skills are taught and endorsed by US Sailing and The American Sailing Association , and are essential to safe and enjoyable Sailing. Besides these basic skills, we try to expose our sailors to racing and cruising. Racing Sailors learn to sail in close proximity with other boats, learn the rules of the road, and hone their boat handling skills. Cruising Sailors learn to plan for a trip, provision, navigate, steer by compass, set up a self steering device, endure heavy weather, feel what it’s like to live aboard a boat for more that a few hours, be on watches, sail both night and day, and deal with other crew members in close proximity. Experience sailing fun for just $90 per month! Get started with $250* includes: Initiation fee = $70 2 mos ($90/mo) of membership fees upfront = $180   * Due to increase in the GET tax to 4.4386% and in the water mooring 60% taking effect in January 2019, and on land parking 70% increase last year, we will be raising our fee for the 1st time since we began in 2003.     You can feel the breeze, watch for whales, check out the dolphins & sea turtles, or sail to great snorkel spots. Who we are? Aloha Sailing's members are a diverse group. We are made up of mostly local Hawai'i residents, sailboat lover, and adventurers. As co-founders and sponsors to the Big Island Sailing Foundation, our membership includes both the young and the young-at-heart.

Sailing Experiences included in Membership

It’s up to the member to come to as many sailing events as they can during the 2-month membership period. We don’t charge to take out novice sailors with our US Sailing Certified Instructors, nor do we charge members for boat usage. During the week we have a lot of boat time available. We generally have group sailing sessions every weekend on one boat with US Sailing Certified Instructors, and another boat is available to qualified skippers.

Booking Cancellation Policy Our time is valuable; as is yours, so please call at least 24 hours in advance if you can’t make a scheduled event, thus allowing us to fill your position on the boat. Your dues are not a payment for classes; they are payment for the length of time (of your membership). We encourage you to enjoy as much sailing as you can with your club membership.

Basic Day Sailing Keelboat Crew

Five 3-hour sessions with 3-4 other new members who are novice sailors. We cover: tacking, jibing, points of sail, sail trim, docking, man overboard & rules of the road are covered over the 15 hours. Five sessions give you ample time on the water to get a feel for the fundamentals of sailing. At this level you are qualified to crew on other peoples boats. Available to all current members.

Day Sailing Keelboat Skipper

Four 4-hour lessons with up to three students per boat. Students will review previously learned sailing skills, develop independent thinking, and skippering skills. Outboard motor handling and docking will be emphasized. Basic coastal navigation, GPS use and anchoring will be introduced. (Available to all members of 3 or more months.) Upon completion of course, and demonstrations of specific skills, you are qualified to skipper a Club boat with in 3 miles of Honokohau Harbor in fair weather and rent boats elsewhere.

Basic Coastal Cruising

Participate in a weekend cruise while practicing coastal navigation; understanding charts, anchoring techniques, review sailing and docking skills and outboard motor trouble-shooting. This session will be held as a two or three day overnight cruise. We use a 30 to 36 ft boat for this adventure. Upon completion you are qualified to skipper an Aloha Sailing boat within 30 miles of Honokohau Harbor in fair weather. You will receive a Bare Boat Skipper certificate. Crewmembers are also welcome to take this course.

Sometimes we have guest instructors from other islands, and members who are now qualified skippers also assist. Most people do not sail by themselves, so we encourage sailors to draw from our group of crew and skippers to make their sailing experiences more rewarding.

Daniel holds a 100 ton Masters USCG with sailing endorsement. He has Captained large sailing catamarans, & enjoys racing smaller boats. He has made several trans-pacific crossings.

Continuing Members Most people will not be proficient sailors after only five to seven lessons in two months time, so you can continue your membership for one or more months at a time. We do offer discounts to longterm members. Your initiation fee is good for two years from when you sign up if you are non-active. If you were active then stopped, we will keep you on active status for two years from your last participation, after that you will be deleted and will have to pay an initiation fee, and two-month membership again. Membership Cancellation Policy Once your first sailing date is set the initiation fee becomes non-refundable. It is up to the member to utilizes the opportunities available to them within their two month membership period. Extending your membership’s expiration, due to sickness or unforeseen events, is at the discretion of our management.

Your ASA Certified Instructor – Captain Robert Rupnow “A waterman from the beginning, I grew up as an avid water skier and fisherman in Wisconsin. After graduating from college, I left Wisconsin (too cold!) and started sailing and scuba diving in the Florida Keys and Bahamas. This is where the thirst for sailing and cruising really took hold.

During the next two years, I sailed a 36-foot Columbia sailboat from San Francisco to Miami. My need to go sailing became even more vital. My life was forever changed when I became friends with the owners of a 106-foot Schooner. I said yes, leaving everything behind.

The first stop was Hawaii. We made landfall in Hilo in 1977. It was love at first sight. I jumped ship. Hawaii has been my home since.

In the early ‘80s, I ran a sailing club that went on an interisland trip every month. That’s when I became a Certified American Sailing Association sail instructor. I’ve been teaching sailing from the basics to advanced skills for over 40 years. There’s nothing I love more.”

They offer a culturally immersive travel experience at sea along the Waikiki coastline of O‘ahu.

Kamoauli hosts 4 sailing tours per day, morning, two in the afternoon, and a sunset sail, in addition to offering private group sails and a private custom charter experience. All of their tours provide an enriching educational experience hosted through an indigenous perspective to honor Hawaii’s culture, history, land, and waters.

Their tours vary only slightly throughout the day, with the main difference being departure time. Kamoauli is the name of both their company and their vessel, which was designed and rebuilt in 2017 specifically for the purpose of sharing mo’olelo, the stories of Native Hawaiians. The allure of sailing with Kamoauli is their unique vessel, their support for the community, and the passion every crew member has for their mission.

All tours are small groups of up to 6 guests, you can book a group spot, meaning you’ll be sailing with other parties, or you can book a private sail at a flat rate for up to 6 guests from only your party.

Morning Sail

Come sail breath-taking Kaneohe Bay (rated 2nd Best sailing location in the world!) on a 18 foot Hobie Getaway Catamaran.

We cherish the opportunity to cultivate a memorable experience cruising Kaneohe Bay’s pristine waters while observing the diverse marine life!

After a safety and sailing orientation given by our highly skilled and certified instructors your adventure begins at water’s edge. Our catamarans are constructed out of plastic for safety, featuring fore/aft trampolines inlcuding benches for added comfort, and coolers sunk into either pontoon. Your certified guide can teach you sailing basics and give you a chance to feel the power of the sailing catamaran for yourself if so desired, otherwise relax, soak in the sun and enjoy the view!

The 3 hour adventure begins at He’eia State Park where the participants will have time to learn the basics of sailing and boat rigging. Our Adventure is extremely personal; instructor to participant ratio is never more than 6:1 to make sure we offer the best possible experience while keeping everyone as safe as possible. The Catamaran Sailing Charter is the most Personal sailing adventure you will find on Oahu. We look forward to sharing our Paradise on Oahu, Kaneohe Bay!

These guys know this boat like the back of their hand! I can’t believe how fast we got going. I have some sailing experience but the crew of this catamaran really helped me to feel more confident.

Had an amazing time, the staff took good care of us. Food was great and the sail was beyond our expectations!

It’s a very complete sail. Beautiful catamaran, the staff was very detail oriented as well. It might seem a little pricey but it’s worth it.

Offshore fishing in Hawaiian conditions can be physically challenging so be sure you are ready. We often see dolphins, sea turtles and manta rays while sailing offshore.

We offer beginner to advanced sailing and navigation instruction aboard private yachts in the Hawaiian Islands. Want your own private sunset tour? This is it! The tour was very professional as well as fun. Michelle made booking the tour very easy. Michelle and Will were very good on the open Ocean and very accommodating. Allowed music if you wanted and can bring whatever drinks you want. Will had just crossed the Pacific Ocean in a boat! Wow!

What to do with a dozen friends all in town at once? Our sunset sail was wonderful! Everyone had a lovely time, enjoying the beautiful skyline and horizon. The highlight of the trip was our close sighting of humpback whales! They were less than 30 yards away at times – it’s hard to say whether the kids or the adults were more excited! The crew was very helpful and the boat Tefiti (for sailing nerds) is beautiful, clean, in perfect condition, and amazingly set up for singlehanding – almost everything is automated to the point she almost sails herself. Not a spot of rust anywhere – she clearly gets a lot of TLC!

Our family of 10 rented the boat originally for two hours to take my husband’s ashes out to Diamond Head and scatter them in the ocean he loved so much and sailed so often. It was a Memory that the entire family will cherish forever. Michele and our captain couldn’t have been more accommodating. After we put his ashes into the water, we asked if it would be possible to stay out an extra hour so that we could all swim in the waters off Waikiki…and the two of them were totally good with that! Such a fun time after such an emotional day for us all. Michele was so good with the two youngsters we had with us…even providing brand-new life jackets for them…ages 6 + 7! It was sunset as we came into the channel…docking was a picture perfect ending to the afternoon. Thank you so much! We loved it and highly recommend this team for a perfect sail aboard the Beneteau 50 Te Fiti!

Had a great day with Honolulu Sailing Company. It was really nice to have a private yacht and avoid the crowds packed on other boats. Our family really appreciated that the captain and crew were fully vaccinated and it made the tour very relaxing. It’s hard these days to find something to do that feels safe. We booked a snorkel cruise and will book a sunset sail before we head home to Arizona.

Our senior Captain, Brad has been sailing in Hawaiian water since late 1980s. His passion for racing sailboats lead him to earn Captain credential. Makani has been a special boat, performing like no other catamaran in Hawaii, with the concept of combining Grand Prix sailing with charter boat comfort, Makani gives an unforgettable ride.

Captain Cristina has been working for over 10 years. She shares her lifelong love of the ocean with new and different people everyday. She loves being connected with nature, working in the sun and in the beautiful oceans. She is able to use what nature gives her to create a memorable experience for people.
