When chartering a catamaran in Greece you can chose between three different sailing areas: In the Ionian Islands , you will find charter companies with bases in Marina Gouvia on Corfu . In Corfu are about 30 catamarans available for your boating vacation to select from. Further charter fleets offer multihull charters from Preveza at the main coast and Lefkas Island. The biggest selection of sailboat catamarans are available from Marina Alimos in Kalamaki near Athens . From the Marina Alimos in Kalamaki you can rent around 100 catamarans to start your sailing holiday into the Cyclades Islands . For exploring the Cyclades with a catamaran, you can also rent from the harbor town of Lavrion . Charter providers in Lavrion provide around 30 catamarans for rental. More south in the Aegean Sea you will find catamaran rentals from Kos and Rhodes. Fewer offers for catamaran sailingboats exist from Skiathos or Volos to sail into the Sporades. Make sure you book ate least five months in advance. This will give you a better choice of available rental boats.

What did you see new and loved on this charter? EVERYTHING!  Rob and B made sure to schedule fantastic family locations for us!

Did you go diving? How many times? We did a 2-tank dive and it was great. Better in Belize, so we chose to do all the other fun things on the other days.

Was Thanksgiving another fun feast this year? Seafood, seafood, seafood!!  B outdid herself!

Did you feel the crew is happy working aboard Mystic? They love the boat & the company.

Would you charter with them again in the BVI or are you looking for something new such as Greece, Croatia, Bahamas, etc? We would do BVIs (definitely with this crew), Greece, Croatia, Fiji, Philippines or Thailand.

I Understand it’s not apples to apples but at this price-point, it will be quite some time, if at all, before we can or will do this again. 6. On-Board Cuisine: A+ 7. Destination / Location: A+ 8. Water-Sports: I was looking forward to waterskiing however adult water skis were available, The boat wasn’t able to pull an adult.  This should be updated in boat information. 9. We had an amazing time! The crew was unbelievable. We are sad it is our last night here. I think my favorite stop was Blue Bay in Poliegos - so pretty. Crew was great and the boat was great. Everything was over the top!

It’s was perfect. The combo of the yacht, crew, attitude was perfect. There wasn’t one thing we found lacking! The food was over the top, better than we expected. Carla has a great attitude and served a labor of love from her galley. Allie could not have have been more cheerful or helpful. The weather was perfect. We had a clear understanding of what we wanted to do and we really enjoyed it.

Wonderful group of people, than you for organising their time on NeuroSeas.  We sailed first two days, Brice seemed to enjoy it and got involved. Even anchoring, operating the boat etc.  Active group, very kind and fun.  We got the special roti delivery for them from the best place we know in whole Grenadines, as they mentioned it couple of times in the preference list.   Capt. 9. Overall Satisfaction: The entire experience was amazing. Terry and Ruth were wonderful. You can really tell the difference between a seasoned crew and the younger crews we’ve experienced in the past. Terry was always whistling and cheerful, had endless patience teaching us all about Cat vs Mono sailing and the quirks of The Big Dog, answered a thousand questions and never once seemed put out by our endless curiosity and thirst for knowledge. 

We dove with Terry 3x and he was a wonderful dive master…taking us to 3 sites with a lot of variation and interest. He is always watching out for everyone’s safety above and below the water and has ninja-like abilities to appear with the dinghy just as you need a ride back to the boat from a shore excursion. The condition and layout of The Big Dog is amazing…everything was spotless and ship shape. Spacious cabins, comfortable mooring/anchoring sites, water maker (water pressure was impressive!) and ice maker were a real luxury too! 

Ruth’s meals were outstanding and she is a warm and cheerful presence on the boat. We loved the size of The Big Dog for 8 of us-her spacious deck space, the big fly deck, the cabins…everything. The layout with the galley being down below made it seem as if meals magically appeared out of nowhere. That was a fun surprise as we hadn’t been on a Cat with that configuration before. 

We would give this boat and crew our HIGHEST recommendation. This is now our 4th crewed charter in the VI’s and The Big Dog takes the prize in every category. First class crew, first class cuisine, first class vessel. 

We will definitely book again and just recommended The Big Dog to another friend who is considering a crewed BVI charter (I also of course recommended Yacht Charters Guru).

Post-Charter Review From Our Clients: 

1. Crew Friendliness: Both Sid and Jack were personable and we got to know them well over the course of our 7 day charter. Jack, answered my countless questions about the boat and sailing and Sid was always ready to help no matter what it was.

2. Crew Knowledge: We found the crew very knowledgeable on our destination, the US Virgin Islands, all the sights, attractions and best mooring spots. Sid and Jack were well versed on the operation of the boat and worked well as a team in all phases of its operational.

3. Quality of Service: Everything was top notch, Lisa and I frequently would say "we were so glad that we selected to do a charter.

4. Professionalism of Crew: It was clear that Sid and Jack enjoyed what they do and it showed in the their professionalism and personable level of service they provided.

5. Value of the Cost of the Charter: We feel that doing the charter was a great value. We originally were going to get a hotel, rent a car and tour around by ourselves. But because of the logistics around doing this we considered a charter. We did not select the charter initially because of value but for convenience. In the end Lisa and I both felt the charter was a great value, when factoring in lodging, food, transportation, fuel, sightseeing and the overall fun factor.

6. On-Board Cuisine: We had almost all of our meals On-Board. All of the meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner were different offering great variety. The meals were well prepared, tasty and artfully presented. Lisa has a salt-free diet restrictions and Sid did a great job in the meal preparation to accommodate this.

7. Destination/Location: The main initiative to visit the US VI was to see the National Park on St John Island. They positioned the boat so that we were able to see everything in the park we wanted to see. Also we were able to coordinate doing the reef trail hike, in the down hill direction, and having the boat pick us up off the beach after the hike.

8. Water Sports: Our main water sport was snorkeling and we did it everyday some days at several locations. We also sailed to St Croix and back which was a fantastic experience we will not forget.

9. Overall satisfaction: We loved everything about the charter, our biggest issue is that we can't wait to do it again in other interesting destinations.

“Dear Captain Ed and Erin – From the moment we set foot on Katrina, we immediately felt at ease. You both extended a warm and informative welcome that had all five us super excited for some quality boat and sea time. Thank you for making us feel welcome and comfortable, for answering all our questions and for explaining our itinerary each day along with the daily menus. 

From the Christmas tree to the holiday floral arrangements and the stockings on the table for Christmas brunch, Erin, you didn’t miss a beat to make sure we had a memorable holiday while at sea. Thank you for helping us stick to a very full itinerary and for the bonus spots that you found for us to explore along the way. You and Ed handled our lost luggage situation with confidence and grace which is how we believe the two of you would handle any situation you were given.

Captain Ed, the sailing was top notch! Thank you for sailing us safely all over the BVIs and for answering all our sailing questions and for constantly ensuring we were safe on the water and on the boat. We are thankful for the extra attention you gave to us by putting out the floating mat and paddle boards, having snorkeling noodles at the ready and taking us to shore in the dingy whenever we pleased. Thank you also for the evening fish viewing.

Erin, thank you for nailing our menu for the week! Every single meal catered to the various food preferences of our family (vegetarian, dairy free, etc.) and they were super delicious. Some of our favorites include your poke bowls, fresh tortellini, Caribbean chicken, breakfast strata, the banana pancake bar, your signature rum cake and your infamous sourdough bread. You are an amazing chef who took significant care to make sure our food preferences were incorporated and each of us had plenty of healthy food. The afternoon snacks, and cocktails were simply the icing on the cake!

Any additional comments you would like to make regarding your vacation experience? It was a fantastic experience. The perfect trip to celebrate our daughter’s graduation. Capt Cory and Chef Emily were wonderful. The food was fantastic-every meal we were impressed with Chef Emily’s creativity and skill. Lisa is having some issues with gluten. Emily went above and beyond in creating meals that Lisa could eat- and they were 5 star. My daughter, Anna, said before the trip that one of the things she was looking forward to was the food- she was not disappointed. 

We loved the scuba. We are newly certified divers and they made us feel comfortable and safe. We appreciated Capt Cory giving us an itinerary based on his experience- he didn’t disappoint. Guests do more self serve, of course. There is a big difference between a 44 foot catamaran and a 50 foot.  6 feet is much more than it sounds. We’re very comfortable on this boat, but it is not as luxurious. The USVI has exceeded our expectations! There has been so much to do. Nikki really caters to us to make sure each person is happy. I was afraid with having so much time for planning/waiting that my expectations may be too high - boy was I wrong. The boat is great. A lot of places to hang out or soak in the sun. 7. Destination / Location: We visited St. Croix which was a new experience and visited several anchorages at St. John. Each location was memorable.

8. Water-Sports: Many options to chose from. We enjoyed the paddle boards and snorkeling especially at Maho Bay where we saw turtles. Catching a Mahi on the sail back from St. Croix was certainly a highlight.

9. Overall Satisfaction: A+. The trip exceeded our expectations.

What was the most memorable highlight of your yacht charter vacation? Many to chose from but if I had to pick it would be a late afternoon sail as the sun was setting when dolphins appeared on the bow of the boat!

Sailing in the Virgin Islands with Capt. Mike & Julie has been one of the best vacations we've experienced. The journey was relaxing, peaceful, enjoyable and memorable for all of us. The boat is great. Its full of spots to enjoy the stunning views- the sea life, beaches, other boats and sunsets are breathtaking. Capt. Mike really know what he’s doing . 1. Crew Friendliness: Captain Matthias and Dominic were friendly and fun. We even got to meet Matthias' wife and kids the last night of our trip, which was great.

2. Crew Knowledge: Super-knowledgeable about the waters, the islands we visited, fishing, food. 

3. Quality of Service: Dominic's cooking skills are tremendous. We ate the healthiest, freshest and most tasty meals 3 times a day throughout our trip. We were all amazed at what he could accomplish in a galley kitchen. We had fish that Dominic and Matthias had caught themselves every day, and it was all fantastic! Mattias was great problem-solver. When we could not find car rentals with availability in St. Croix, he borrowed a friend's SUV and took us around the island himself - which was so much fun. When the 3 young people in our group got severely seasick on the long sail to St. Croix, he told me where to book seaplane flights for the return trip to St. Thomas, took them to the seaport in the dingy, and then retrieved them at the seaport in St. Thomas. Charlie and I then enjoyed a great return sail with Matthias and Dominic (and no seasick crew) - and the youngsters loved their short and scenic seaplane hop (and a day at a beach bar)!

"Dear Yacht Charters Guru,

I couldn’t have asked for a better match with this boat and crew.

The amount of space, especially with the screened-in area above in the Captains area was a bonus. Baby Charlotte really enjoyed that area and Capt. Roberto was always fun to chat with as we cruised along. Josh even used it for sleeping quarters a few nights because his bunkmate was snoring too loud😂

We felt like we had the most experienced and knowledgeable Captain in Greece. His ability to maneuver that boat in tight quarters and to secure us a space at the docks was amazing, especially at Hydra. He ended up helping other boaters that were struggling on a couple of occasions. Maria was also phenomenal. She actually injured her shoulder a few days into the trip but was as tough as could be in continuing to provide docking support, delicious meals, and service.

The nice thing is that we had members in our family who have managed larger boats on the Great Lakes so Joe provided a helping hand with the lines which he actually loved doing and Capt. Roberto and Maria appreciated. Of course, they were always mindful to keep everyone safe.

Charters in Greece are expensive but with the number of people that we had on board, we felt it was a good value. Your advice to increase the allotment for our APA expenses was good advice. We owed a little for fuel at the end but the cost came close and it was nice to not worry about needing to pay anything significant.

Overall we were extremely pleased and would highly recommend Valium 52, Yacht Guru, Roberto, and Maria. Except for some exceptionally windy and cool weather, which the crew managed well with an additional night in port, everything was perfect.

Thanks again for all of the work that you put into servicing this trip. I know it was exceptional with all of the interruptions and uncertainties due to Covid.

BTW we also experienced some milestones with Baby Charlotte on the trip. She learned to crawl, wave and was working on standing unsupported (on a moving boat😬). Standing on land should come quickly. The most memorable part of the trip for me was watching how much fun my kids had with each other and the crew. We could have been anywhere in the world but being in this beautiful location made it all even better.

The trip was fantastic aboard Catamaran Anastasia.  10/10 on everything.  The food was delicious and Lesli and Ryan did a great job of making sure we were comfortable at all times.  The memorable highlight for me was the day Ryan took us to shore.  We returned to a decorated yacht.  Lesli had hung streamers/balloons and birthday decorations to celebrate my birthday.  She definitely went the extra mile to make sure I felt special! "We had a delightful week with Dan and Sarah aboard Azulia II.  They are both warm, positive, smart, and interesting people.  As Barn and I approach our 70th birthdays, the time together with our wives relaxing onboard in beautiful surroundings is really what appeals to us.  Dan and Sarah recognized that we were quite happy in and around the yacht without having the need or desire to off-board each day.  We enjoyed a hike in Reiff’s Bay, a snorkel somewhere (I forget where), swims around Azulia, sunbathing on board (Queen), a lunch at Lime-Out, and a dinner at ZoZo’s. 

I’ll answer your specific questions below:

1. Crew Friendliness: 

Wonderful.  Both Dan and Sarah are positive seeking to help their guests enjoy their week in any way they can.  We hit it off with them immediately and for the full duration of our stay.

2. Crew Knowledge: 

Outstanding.  We were fully confident in their expertise in every aspect of their work whether sailing, meals or repairs.  They also helped when I twinged my back and Mary cut her foot.

3. Quality of Service:

Excellent.  Always with a smile.

4. The Professionalism of Crew: 

Excellent.  It became clear quite quickly that our crew was eager to provide a high level of professionalism in all aspects of service.  Yet they displayed a genuine warmth and excitement that we enjoyed.  Crew and guests all enjoyed saying “Attitude”.  

5. Value of the Cost + Expenses Charter: 

Obviously the corona virus pandemic made this a more expensive trip than we had originally planned.  Nevertheless, Barn and Ginny and Mary and me felt the trip well worthwhile.  A week on Azulia was heaven.  The yacht is magnificent, well maintained and roomy (especially with just four guests).

6. On-Board Cuisine: 

Outstanding.  Sarah is an excellent chef.  You would be pleased.  We enjoyed fabulous meals every day. 

7. Destination / Location:

We thoroughly enjoyed exploring areas of St. Thomas and St. John but we did miss the BVI.  The past year has taught everyone to be more flexible and we thoroughly enjoyed our USVI sail.  I don’t think it will surprise you we hope to add the BVI back in future sails.

8. Quality & Variety of Water-Sports & Equipment : 

For our age, we are in excellent shape; however, water sports are no longer a priority.

9. Overall Satisfaction: 

10 of 10.  We loved it. What was the most memorable highlight of your yacht charter vacation?  The sail yesterday from Magen’s Bay to Charlotte Amalie was a marvelous finale.  We “raced” another yacht head to head for much of the sail.  It was spectacular.

What was the most memorable highlight of your yacht charter vacation?    The Thanksgiving Feast prepared by Christina (Seafood Feast); Captain Richard's knowledge and love of what he is doing.  Pure relaxation and enjoyment had by our two families. 

Any additional comments you would like to make regarding your vacation experience?    We would highly recommend this charter by your company to others along with the recommendation of The Ventana, Capt. Richard and Christina as crew.  They worked themselves to the bone and did so with smiles and love.  Also, our driver that picked us up at the airport to dock and return was an absolutely wonderful man too.  I would recommend him as well.

We want to thank you for supplying us with all the information we needed to get through the COVIDmania traveling.  The only thing that could have made this trip better would have been to delete COVIDmania and allow us to be on shore together at a restaurant.  We usually enjoyed going ashore for a meal or two but didn't even bother since we could not sit together and wanted to avoid all the hysteria.

1. Crew Friendliness:  Absolutely fantastic, great couple, very professional as crew, they crushed it!


2. Crew Knowledge:  Very good. Capt.Tom knows his way around a boat and seems to be able to fix anything. He’s a little less experienced with the nuances of finding the perfect mooring spot or dive site for the conditions (but we are experienced divers and he knew that), eating places, but knew all the beautiful places to see and made sure we found them. Always safe, professional, both are good sailors, super friendly, lovely, and helpful. Hannah is an absolute gem and the two of them work very well together, patient with changes or requests, never intrusive. We really want to adopt them and keep them forever!!

4. The Professionalism of Crew:  Excellent 5. Value of the Charter:  We got a great deal in my opinion. Obviously, the charter was discounted by a huge amount. We didn’t eat out very much (only one lunch and one dinner) because Hannah was an excellent chef and the way the itinerary worked, we really ended up in remote places, but we liked that! 6. On-Board Cuisine:  Excellent 7. Destination / Location: Great. I like the BVIs better because of the variety, but we sailed to St Croix which was a first for me, and there are plenty of places around St John and STT to play and enjoy. 8. Water-Sports:  Great, both Tom and Hannah did a great job facilitating diving both from the dinghy and the yacht, Tom came snorkeling (and diving of course) with us, we used the paddleboards and floats a lot, wish we could’ve done some tubing which we didn’t have time to try. 9. Overall Satisfaction: Amazingly wonderful.  Can't wait to do it again.

"The trip with Captain Jake and Stephanie on Catamaran Dreamcatcher was over the top. They are extremely professional and amazing. Each meal was delicious. They provided everything we wanted. They know the area very well. Each location they took us to was perfect. The main point that really stands out is their knowledge of sailing. We hit a strong storm (45 knots). We never felt unsafe because they worked together as a team. I HIGHLY recommend this crew.

Thank you for making this first voyage for our kiddos such a success! Jack & I have dreamed of introducing then to such a vacation. Your patience, attention to all of the details, and special touches made it a perfect trip. Magdalene (9 yrs old) will forever remember the snorkeling, getting to touch a jellyfish diving down to touch a rock, seeing a grand sea turtle, and of course her new special friend “Rob” the Conch. :) Capt. Dylan, your patience & guidance helped make all of these things possible. Jaxie (8 yrs old) loved sitting on the nets with the wind blowing on her face, snorkeling tubing & of course the early morning chats with you both. Maverick (4 yrs old) first tubing experience, searching for shells, and he will likely keep dreaming of Gi’s sweets for years to come! Truly, a wonderful, fabulous journey with you both. The pirate Thanksgiving lunch was a terrific treat.

We just completed a week in Greece aboard charter catamaran Sea Energy V for 10 guests. For most people chartering a boat is a big deal. It's a financial commitment and requires advanced planning. What can we say about our vacation with Jason, Kate and Miss T on 62' Catamaran Foxy Lady ? We’ve been blessed to take some nice trips in our life and this was, without question, the best vacation we’ve ever taken. A fabulous vessel with attention to detail, kindness, service, creativity, amazing food, fishing, snorkeling, skiing, tubing, wake-boarding, exploring, special attention to birthday celebrations (two 50-year-olds and one forty-year-old celebration), games, laughter, music, friendship....we could go on and on. 

One more important note, the captain and crew treated our 13-year-olds like their own, constantly keeping them entertained and having fun; which is not always easy. I would trust them again with our children...100%. We also knew safety was the top priority from the moment we stepped on our boat.

When we left for home, we were sad to see the week go by so fast but happy to have gained three new friends. My hope is that we can stay in touch and cross paths again.

You all had your hands full with the Chris 50th Birthday Cruising and Boozing Crew on Catamaran LIR . We were greeted with smiles and hospitality that never ended!! The boat remained spotless, the food amazing and the sailing beautiful. We were able to get everyone in and out of the tender without any oops! HA HA HA. Chris´s birthday lobster feast was so well set up and well beyond what we expected. We enjoyed a 21lbs Turkey, which only just fitted the oven! It was an absolute feast! Night time fish watching and star gazing. We are BLESSED to have shared this experience with both sets of our parents and two best friends that are like family.

From Nancy:  "We sailed aboard the yacht Kestrel with Captain Andrew & Chef/ First Mate Kailee July 1st to 8th. There were 8 of us which included our children & grandkids. By far this was our best vacation ever! The boat was spacious, clean, and well maintained and exceeded our expectations. Andrew took us to amazing snorkeling locations, fun, beach bars, shopping, and made sure our every wish was executed perfectly. My husband and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary aboard and Andrew served as our officiate for our vow renewal (which was a surprise to me). Kailee was an amazing chef even baked us a special cake for our anniversary. We had 3 hot meals every day that was wonderful. Andrew and Kailee were such great hosts I got teary when we left. It felt as though we were leaving family. We will cherish the great memories of this vacation."

Of course, Nancy & I didn't have a clue what they were talking about most of the time; but we really liked how the crew connected with everyone. The yacht is really clean & in good shape. I liked how Andrew always managed to anchor away from all the other boats. That gave us some nice space on a busy week. "It was truly one of the best vacations I’ve ever had. The crew on  Catamaran Lolalita  couldn't have done anything better. They were very easy to be around, friendly, humorous & fun to hang around with. All this while doing their jobs with ease & always trying to accommodate us in all areas. We felt like they were part of our "family". They made this trip extremely enjoyable. They were very knowledgeable about all aspects of the boat & made us feel very secure. It far surpassed any expectations we may have had, and will be the topic of choice when discussing our best memories for years to come. As our family spent most of our time on board Bamarandi, we felt it would be appropriate to comment on our experience. From the first time we stepped on deck, we were welcomed with open hearts. Donald and Audrey worked tirelessly to ensure we were always comfortable, entertained, and extremely well cared for and well-fed! We were so impressed with their level of professionalism and competence. They were always mindful of our children, whether it was looking out for their safety while playing with all the amazing toys, instructing and leading them in scuba diving, or just spending time entertaining them with Caribbean stories, history and card tricks! Of course, the kids enjoyed their time with Richard as well, who made our stay so comfortable, they were wishing he would come home with us!! The boat itself is lovely and modern. It was meticulously kept and very comfortable for our large family of 7. There’s just something so relaxing about being gently rocked to sleep each night! We can’t say enough about our vacation on board the Bamarandi. • Can I fly into the BVI for my charter? While flights in and out of St. Thomas remain the most popular pick, typically due to preferred routes, flight times, and pricing, our other suggested option is to take a commercial flight in and out of San Juan, Puerto Rico with a connecting flight to the BVI and back. We will assist with connecting flight recommendations or with private charter flight reservations either from Puerto Rico to the BVI and back or from St. Thomas to the BVI and back.
• What’s the best way to get to the BVI and back from St. Thomas? Many of our clients take private water taxis from St. Thomas to the BVI and back for their charters. While more expensive than a commercial ferry, this option offers a faster and far more seamless, luxury experience. Once your flights are confirmed, we’ll be happy to assist with water taxi reservations.
• If I fly into St. Thomas, can my charter start and end there? While the crewed fleet was able to offer St. Thomas ports and a BVI itinerary through July 2023, crewed charters that occur in the BVI after October 2023 will require a BVI pick-up and drop-off.

I do not recommend booking with Helm…

I do not recommend booking with Helm for a charter. The boat they reserved for us had a dinghy with an inoperable engine (we lost a full day of sailing because it had to be removed by a mechanic, repaired, and then reinstalled 8 hours later). Worse, the bilge clearly hadn’t been properly cleaned. The main cabin smelled like a public toilet after a music festival and the stench of human feces was absorbed by all of our clothing. Everywhere we went, we smelled like human waste. It was nauseating. Peter, one of the scam artists who run this company, refused to do anything meaningful to make this better. We spent over $12,000 to rent a partially inoperable public toilet with no customer service to support us.

Saronic Gulf Charter

We contacted Helm to book a one week bare boat catamaran charter out of Athens in mid September. Our experience with Helm and their local agent FyLy in Athens was nothing short of excellent. We were given a superb deal on a brand new Astrea 42 which was the ideal boat for our party of 6 retired sailors. Helm made planning our trip to Greece very easy with full details on the boat, suggested itinerary and booking of transport from the airport to the Marina. Their agent gave us full support at Alimos marina and during our cruise around the Saronic Gulf. We would recommend Helm to anyone considering a bare boat charter in the Mediterranean

catamaran charter - Greece cyclades

I chartered a catamaran though HELM for a Greek holiday. All arrangements worked as expected and we had a great holiday. All the staff I dealt with at HELM were very courteous and efficient. One point of feedback is there was little or no continuity as people left the business so a couple of things fell through the gaps, but were recovered without issue. I would use HELM again - thankyou!

The Perfect Trip

We had a trip of a lifetime on the Sinata Sunreef. Martin, Nicola & Hana were outstanding and made the experience unforgettable with amazing food, service and meaningful conversations. We went the first week of October and the weather was perfect. I wish I could offer some constructive feedback but the trip was perfect. HELM was informative and helped steer us to the best boat for our group. Victoria from HELM was very helpful coordinating logistics before our trip which helped relieve a lot of stress. New to chartering - great experience

As someone new to chartering, Toby was patient and extremely helpful. I didn’t have a huge budget, but was always made to feel supported throughout the process. He helped me decide where to sail with itinerary information, and helped advise me on a million other questions I had. Our charter in Greece was the highlight of our trip, made extra special by the information and responsiveness of Victoria on restaurants and places to go that would fit with our itinerary. Aeolian Islands Family Day-HELM Sicily

I booked a day charter from Capo d'Orlando, Sicily to the Aeolian Islands. We swam around Lipari and Vulcano. If we had enough energy we could have zoomed off to Salina also. The crew of Aerre Sicily Charter, Captain Carlo and his Skipper Angelo were kind, social, and great hosts. We had fruit to snack on and for lunch we had enough food to feed at least 15 people, we were a party of 7. They could accommodate other requests with advanced notice. We probably used about 1/3rd of the vessel's gas, easy fill up with American Express. I would definitely book this charter again.

Poorly managed catamaran charter

We recently chartered a ‘Lagoon 52F catamaran with skipper’ to sail the Dalmatian coastline that was brokered by HELM (UK) with Adriatic Sailing (Split). As we planned to sail from Dubrovnik to Split, we paid a ‘one-way charter fee (€780)’, to cover the fuel used and crew needed to relocate the catamaran to Dubrovnik to be ready to sail no later than 5pm on Saturday (or earlier pending approval from the skipper). We understood that if they (Adriatic Sailing) were able to secure a charter from Split to Dubrovnik in the preceding week (typically 7 days) then as the catamaran would already be in Dubrovnik on Saturday, the ‘one-way charter fee’ would be simply refundable. In this scenario the mooring fee would be payable by the previous charter as it arrived on Friday and had to stay overnight at the marina. This all seemed logical and reasonable. Prior to the start of the charter, we reviewed the contract (welcome package, Wi-Fi (75 GB/week), dinghy, outboard engine with full fuel tank, bed sheets & towels, beach towels, snorkelling gear, coffee machine + 10 capsules, ice maker, cooking gas and final cleaning) with HELM. Great idea. This review identified that two (2) requested stand up paddle boards (SUP) had been omitted and that ‘snorkelling gear’ actually meant that only two (2) sets would be available, despite the fact that the catamaran was licensed to hold 12 passengers. We incurred an additional rental charge of €60 for eight (8) sets of snorkelling gear and at our request we also rented a BBQ for €90. These additional monies would be paid on departure from the Dubrovnik marina at the Adriatic Sailing office. When we all arrived at the marina after lunch on Saturday, we were advised there had been a delay in cleaning of the catamaran (i.e. last in the que) and that it wouldn’t be ready until just before 5pm. When we eventually got onto the catamaran a number of problems, some big, some small, appeared: 1. all the dirty linen/water toys (kayak, extra SUP, extra snorkelling gear) from the previous charter had been NOT been relocated to the Adriatic Sailing office BUT placed in and blocked the skipper’s toilet cabin WITHOUT our approval. As a consequence, my wife and I had to share our cabin’s toilet facilities with the skipper for the duration of the charter 2. Adriatic Sailing informed us that we had to pay €170 for rental of the kayak, despite the fact we hadn’t ordered it and that it was left on the catamaran from the previous charter 3. marina required us to pay the outstanding mooring fee (€208), when clearly this was part of the previous charter as it had moored overnight on Friday 4. catamaran was NOT checked properly by Adriatic Sailing for our charter as: • main shelf in the kitchen fridge door was cracked and was held together with masking tape. Needless to say, it broke as soon as we left the marina • there was a periodic but strong sewage smell in the cabins which was discussed with the skipper. It appeared shortly after leaving Dubrovnik and then returned frequently during the charter • Wifi went down (day 2/3) as this hadn’t been topped up from the previous charter despite the contract stating we had access to 75GBq/week • kitchen stove ran-out of gas as the gas cylinder had not been refilled after the previous charter. We had to resort to boiling water on the BBQ which the used up all the gas. So neither the kitchen stove or BBQ worked • shower fitting in one cabin was broken which had to be taped together so it would work. We recognise that problems will occur. However, the majority of the problems detailed above should have been identified before our charter began. We discussed these problems with the skipper and then with HELM many times after the charter had finished. HELM’s negotiation with Adriatic Sailing was NOT very helpful or particularly successful. Eventually, Adriatic Sailing provided refund for the mooring fee (€208), kayak hire (€170) and €100 reimbursement for transporting the dirty linen back to Split. They refused to provide any compensation for the inconvenience caused by not preparing the catamaran properly for our charter; the skipper having to use one of the passenger’s cabin toilets/shower facilities for the duration of the charter, or a refund the ‘one way charter fee’ of €780 (despite the fact that this service was NEVER supplied). Looking back on our experience with Adriatic Sailing and Helm I would be very hesitant to ever use or recommend them. Adriatic Sailing seem quite happy to put their commercial interest first and to charge for services that were NOT provided or asked for (e.g. ‘one way charter fee’, kayak, mooring fee etc). I am sure there are other more reputable charter companies whom International tourists should use when visiting the Dalmatian coastline.

We chartered a 42 Lagoon named Casbah III from Horizon Yacht Charters. This Lagoon 42 had a large, full stateroom in Starboard hull and two smaller, full staterooms in Port hull. My wife and I were in one of the smaller rooms, and my adult son was in one of the smaller rooms. My daughter, son-in-law and 2 1/2 year old granddaughter were in the larger room. This boat was PERFECT for our family! The experience with the Horizon Staff and Nanny Cay facilities and other establishments was excellent. The sailing was wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed every area we visited – Peter Island, Soper’s Hole, Jost Van Dyke including Foxy’s Taboo and the bubbly pools, Marina Cay and the snorkeling there, The Baths at Virgin Gorda and Cooper Island. I would recommend Horizon and a BVI sailing experience to anyone. It was my first bareboat Captain experience. I have a 38 foot monohull sailboat. For any prospective Captains thinking of doing this for the first time, as long as you prepare well and take full advantage of the videos and manuals Horizon provides, you can do this!
