Motor Yacht
In 2008, Feadship launched the stylish and understated superyacht Archimedes. This 67.75 metre (222’3”) motor yacht was designed by De Voogt Naval Architects and John Munford Designs and features proven high-end technologies that bring her from idyllic luxury yacht to global cruiser.
Rarely seen in the traditional superyacht destinations, her ice-strengthened Corinthian blue hull is often touring the world’s most far-flung locations. The desire to cruise the furthest reaches of the world introduced created a number of exterior areas for al fresco dining with a view.
On the large sundeck, guests can make the most of their time on board with a masterfully crafted marble mosaic Jacuzzi, bar and entertainment area, enclosed gym and lots of dining and social areas as you cruise the globe. The panoramic views are uninterrupted by tenders and toys on deck due to dedicated wells, lifts and large garage.
Her beam of 12 metres provides a large amount of space on board for a relaxed, yet sophisticated interior by John Munford Design. Battling the cavernous space on board, the interior remains welcoming with comfortable furniture and a grand piano in the main lounge. Archimedes is the first Feadship to feature a wood burning fireplace, reflecting the relaxed, stately nature of being on board.
The full-beam master bedroom is divided into various relaxation areas, consisting of large central bed and a lady’s writing desk which was handmade for the owner’s wife. The bathrooms draw inspiration from the titular Greek god and showcases artisan mosaic marble floors in all six ensuite staterooms, hosting space for eight guests on board.

About Archimedes
In the first ten years after her launch in 2008 Archimedes covered 200,000+ nautical miles, including a record 54 days in the High Arctic (more on which here . The refit she received at Feadship in 2018 covered the LRS 10-year Special Survey and future-proofed her systems for another decade of adventures. It included new AV facilities, fresh teak for the stern platform, painting the sun deck interior floor and a rebuild of the crew mess. Maintenance was carried out on the shaft line, engine supports, gangway, side hull door, tender lift, stern platform door, seawater cooling systems and stabilisers. Parts of the superstructure were repainted and a new antifouling system added, while the generator, heating & air-conditioning, watermaker and fuel oil separator were upgraded.
“ The project was finished on time and on budget ,” says Captain Christopher Walsh. “ This is exactly what one expects from Feadship but not something captains take for granted when carrying out refits without Feadship’s involvement. It was a pleasure to bring Archimedes home .”

Archimedes completes three month refit at Feadship
The 68 metre Feadship Archimedes has departed her home yard after completing a three-month refit.
The yacht arrived at the Dutch yard in September, fresh from completing an “epic” Arctic expedition.
Refit work included the replacing and upgrading of all AV facilities, fresh teak applied to the stern platform and new upholstery for the furniture and beds.
The crew mess was completely rebuilt and the sun deck interior floor repainted.
Major maintenance work was also carried out on the shaft line, engine supports, gangway and stern platform door.
The superstructure was repainted and a new antifouling system added too.
Her refit was well deserved. Since her launch in 2008, Archimedes has visited more than 80 countries and clocked up over 210,000 nautical miles.
Captain Christopher Walsh said the yacht had been returned to "perfect condition" and is ready for "the owner and his guests to embark on another decade of exploring the oceans".
"Our recent expedition into the high Arctic has certainly whetted everyone's appetites for more adventures," he said.
He added that bringing Archimedes ' to her home yard for the three month refit had been a "pleasure."
"The project was finished on time and on budget," he said. "The three months we've spent here brought back great memories of the original build back in the mid-noughties."

Wherever superyacht Archimedes ports it generates a huge amount of interest, for obvious reasons.
The sailing behemoth, worth £75m often towers over anything else in the harbour and draws in big crowds, as it did when it visited Bristol Harbour in July.
But what does a boat worth £75m look like on the inside?
Well it turns out, shockingly, it's pretty lush.
Everyone's heads have been turned by the huge boat that moored in Bristol over that weekend.
The ship is owned by billionaire former hedge fund manager James 'Jim' Simons and it arrived in the city.
And while it has gathered quite the crowd outside, and a huge amount of reaction on social media , few have been able to catch a glimpse of what the floating palace looks like on board.
What's on board the Archimedes?
To start with it has an ice-strengthened Corinthian blue hull so it can be sailed in any weather condition and with ultra-modern stabilization system which reduces roll motion effect and results in a smoother more enjoyable cruising experience underway.
The luxury yacht is also fitted with 'at anchor stabilisers' which work at anchor, increasing on-board comfort when the yacht is stationary, particularly in rough waters.
On the large sun deck, guests can enjoy a masterfully crafted marble mosaic hot tub, bar and entertainment area, enclosed gym and lots of dining and social areas.
The panoramic views are uninterrupted by tenders and toys on deck due to dedicated wells, lifts and a large garage below deck.
Grant piano and helipad
Comfortable furniture and even a grand piano are in the main lounge as is a wood-burning fireplace, the first Feadship to have one.
The full-beam master bedroom is divided into various relaxation areas, consisting of large central bed and a lady’s writing desk which was handmade for the owner’s wife.
The bathrooms are Greek-inspired and showcase artisan mosaic marble floors in all six en-suite staterooms.
And if you get fed up of slumming it on-board, the boat has a helipad as well as two smaller boats attached to make a quick and glamorous getaway.

The story behind the superyacht and its owner
It's American owner Simons is 80 years old and was as a maths teacher and Cold War code-breaker before setting up New York City-based hedge fund firm Renaissance Technologies.
In 2006, Financial Times described Simons as the “world’s smartest billionaire” after being named on the paper’s ‘alternative rich list’.
Simons, who also owns a private jet, had an estimated net worth of $18 billion in 2017, according to Forbes .
He is also a philanthropist, donating vast amounts of money to scientific research and to improve math programs in public schools.
In 2014, the New York Times did a profile piece on the 80-year-old - referring to him as ‘the billionaire mathematician’.
According to reports online, Simons shuns the limelights and rarely gives interviews.
Superyacht Archimedes causes a stir in Bristol
In an interview with Seed Magazine in 2006, he explained: “I was on Lou Dobbs for about a microsecond.
“He was doing a piece on teaching, and they interviewed a number of folks. But I’ve never been on TV in any meaningful way. And I don’t really have a desire for that.
“There’s a wonderful quote in Animal Farm. The source of all wisdom in that book is Benjamin the donkey. He observes at one point that ‘God gave me a tail to keep off the flies. But I’d rather of had no tail and no flies.’ So, that’s kind of the way I feel about publicity.”

A £75million superyacht has rocked up at a Cornwall dock.
The Archimedes, which was recently moored in Bristol , is now in Falmouth harbour.
The huge yacht, which belongs to billionaire James Simons, had been docked in Bristol since Sunday afternoon (August 5) and arrived in Falmouth on Thursday.
Its presence caught the attention of most of Bristol - with many curious about the reason for the visit.
Some said they were “shocked and offended” at the presence of the billionaire’s yacht in the austerity-hit city.
Others took offence at the presence of the yacht and decided to stage a protest.
At one stage police were seen boarding the vessel in Bristol, but only to carry out a 'short community engagement' meeting with the crew.
Now a marine traffic app has showed that the vessel is around Pendennis Shipyard in Falmouth.
It is not known how long it will stay.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported
B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.
Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.
Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.
Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.
Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.
The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.
Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."
More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.
Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.
The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."
The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.
Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.
On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.
The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.
There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.
