The Kenny Chesney Come Over song was was released in May 2012 as the second single from Chesney’s 2012 album Welcome to the Fishbowl .  This song reached #1 on the Billboard Country Singles chart starting August 11, 2012.

The music video shows scenes featuring Chesney and his romantic interest in the video (Courtney McCann).[  The music video was filmed in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with some ocean scenes near Miami Beach, Florida. The video also features a cameo from his dog, Poncho, standing on a paddleboard alongside Chesney.  Kenny’s Yacht at the time is also prominently shown in the music video.

Watch the official music video, check out the written lyrics and see more pictures and details about his Yacht below.

The music video showcases Kenny’s amazing Yacht.   Kenny’s boat is a Riva Domino Yacht that has a size range of 86′ – 92′. The boat is a sleek stunner in the music video and a new version of this boat fully loaded is over $6M.   Before this Riva Domino boat he used to own a Sea Ray Yacht.

Kenny Chesney Come Over Lyrics

I turned the TV off, to turn it on again Staring at the blades of the fan as it spins around Counting every crack, the clock is wide awake Talking to myself, anything to make a sound I told you I wouldn’t call, I told you I wouldn’t care But baby, climbing the walls gets me nowhere I don’t think that I can take this bed getting any colder Come over, come over, come over, come over, come over You can say we’re done the way you always do It’s easier to lie to me than to yourself Forget about your friends, you know they’re gonna say We’re bad for each other, but we ain’t good for anyone else I told you I wouldn’t call, I told you I wouldn’t care But baby, climbing the walls gets me nowhere I don’t think that I can take this bed getting any colder Come over, come over, come over, come over, come over We don’t have to miss each other, come over We don’t have to fix each other, come over We don’t have to say forever, come over You don’t have to stay forever, come over I told you I wouldn’t call, I told you I wouldn’t care But baby, climbing the walls gets me nowhere I don’t think that I can take this bed getting any colder Come over, come over, come over, come over, come over Come over, come over, come over, come over, come over Come over, come over, come over, come over, come over (whoa, whoa, whoa) (Whoa, whoa, whoa) (Whoa, whoa, whoa) (Whoa, whoa, whoa)

Kenny Chesney Rides Out the Perfect Storm in New ‘Knowing You’ Music Video

By Joseph Hudak

Joseph Hudak

Kenny Chesney mixes the romantic sailboat opulence of Duran Duran’s “Rio” video with the salt-of-the-earth drama of George Clooney’s The Perfect Storm in the new music video for his song “Knowing You.”

Filmed in Gloucester, Massachusetts — the same location in Clooney’s 2000 film  — the clip finds the country singer contemplating loves and lives lost. “Not everything is meant to last,” he says in a voiceover. “When it’s over, there’s a huge hole but there’s also a pair of wings.”

The video, directed by Chesney’s longtime collaborator Shaun Silva, juxtaposes sunny days on the sailboat and the beaches of the Virgin Islands with the fog, mist, and hard work of life in Gloucester, where Chesney takes to the open sea on the local fishing boat Orion. He even suits up in an orange rain suit to protect him from the waves crashing over the deck, owning a look that can best be described as “Deadliest Chesney.”

But it’s a moving video, cinematic and stunning to watch, and the country superstar sells the gravity of the moment, as he sings about moving forward with just a memory. “I was a kid on a carnival ride, holding my breath till the moment/When you’re gonna leave me too soon,” goes the chorus. “I’d do it all over, ’cause damn it was good knowing you.”

“One of the things about this video I love is the way you can feel the settings,” Chesney said in a statement. “And each location — whether in Gloucester, Mass. or the Virgin Islands — was selected because it feels the way these emotions actually feel. As I’ve said, over and over lately, the people who come into your life and then are gone, it’s for any number of reasons. But beyond missing them, you have the opportunity to recognize what they brought to your life and be thankful.”

Written by Adam James, Brett James, and Kat Higgins, “Knowing You” appears on Chesney’s latest album, 2020’s Here and Now .

Come Over by Kenny Chesney

kenny chesney video on a yacht

Songfacts®:

  • The second single and opening track from Kenny Chesney's Welcome to the Fishbowl album was written by Sam Hunt, Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne. It was sent to Country radio on May 14, 2012.
  • Chesney explained the song's meaning: "'Come Over'" is about two people who are as broken as their relationship is, when they realize deep down that their time together has probably ran its course, but they aren't really ready to emotionally or physically move on to something else," he said. "They keep going back to each other because it's familiar. It's about emotionally feeling wanted in a moment, but it feels impossible to let anybody else fill that void. It's a really sexy song with lyrics that are incredibly universal."
  • The song's video was filmed it off the coast of Florida and directed by Chesney's longtime collaborator Shaun Silva. "'Come Over' is the most intimate journey I've captured of Kenny in the 10 years we've been making music videos together," said the director. "It's clear within the first five seconds of this video that Kenny is committed to his character in the video and was more than willing to open up to the vulnerabilities associated with this tortured love story. The music video was finished in black-and-white, delivering a strikingly timeless and cinematic result." According to Chesney, this is a "classy booty call song," and the video has the same concept. He explained to CMT News: "We've all been in those situations when we know we're not going to [continue to] be with that person we have been with for a while. The relationship is over, done, run its course. But you aren't really ready to move onto somebody else emotionally, mentally or physically. So what do we do? We 'come over.' (Holds hand up to ear), 'I know you hate me and I hate you too ... but come over! We don't have to fix each other, so come over.' We know we're screwed up. So we took that situation and made the video. It's a very sexy video." Chesney owns the 86-foot Riva Domino speedboat that features in the video.
  • When the three songwriters first got together they didn't really have the song title or its concept in mind. However, Osborne explained to Taste of Country that Hunt, "sort of had that phrasing on the verse," so the trio "started jammin' on that." They, "talked about how it would be cool to have a song that kind of repeats the same chord progression throughout the whole song," he continued, "but change the melodies around it. So we started messing around with that verse, and we still didn't quite know what the hook was. It felt like the idea was these two people weren't together, but couldn't be apart." When the trio got to the chorus, they fell onto the "I told you I wouldn't call. I told you I wouldn't care" lyric, which they felt would be a cool opening line. "It was very rare that we wrote that long without having a title," said Osborne. "We got near the end of the chorus, and I think Shane said, 'What if it was just like a simple title like 'Come Over,' about these two people who know each other well, and finally the guy says to come over? But what if we said it a bunch of times like he was pleading with her?' Then we felt like we had something." Osborne concluded that the song, "just organically fell out." He added: "A lot of times you have an idea or you have a concept or a melody or some place that you start. All we really had was Sam's phrasing of the verse, but we loved the vibe of it. We just thought, 'Let's play with it for a while.'"
  • The song took 11 weeks to climb to the top of the Country chart, giving Chesney his 24th #1 hit.
  • Speaking with Billboard magazine, Sam Hunt recalled. "When I bought a guitar after graduating high school, one of his (Chesney's) songs was the first song I learned to play. It was a song called 'What I Needed to Do' and it was extra-special because I still have that same guitar and worked on 'Come Over' on that same guitar."
  • This was the first big hit that Sam Hunt contributed towards. At the time he was experimenting with ways to mix more modern beats and tones with the narrative and wordplay that define the best country music. Some of the other songwriters were sceptical, but when Chesney recorded this tune and it topped the country chart, he sensed that he was on to something. Hunt told Billboard : "When we wrote that song a lot of people told us that it wasn't a country song or that it couldn't work in country music and to have somebody as big as Kenny Chesney endorse that style and get it out there to people, that was huge as far as moving forward with that sound that I was working on."

Kenny Chesney Reckons with What Once Was in New Video for “Knowing You”

by Madeline Crone March 12, 2021, 10:59 am

Kenny Chesney reframes what once was in his cinematic video for “Knowing You” from his latest chart-topping album,  Here and Now . In the official music video filmed last fall, the beloved country artist breathes new life into a universally resonate waltz about love and loss and the wonder between the two.

Videos by American Songwriter

From the rocky shores of Gloucester, Massachusetts, Chesney reflects wistfully on his past, balancing gratitude with the gravity of what’s lost. Painful tinges arise as a weathered soul sends well wishes to a woman who set him free. Black and white footage records the artist with his real-life boat captain Ben and others working onboard a fishing boat in the Atlantic off the Northeast Coast. The grainy film captures a nearly tangible sense of loss from a defeated man.

Memories of brighter days pierce through the fog, flipping the camera to scenes of St. Croix’s sandy beaches and golden hour sails. The incandescent reels embody the radiance of his past relationship. Chesney’s longtime director and collaborator, Shaun Silva, wields the opposing imagery to convey the stark contrast between his past and present.

“While it’s a simple country song,” Chesney says, “it’s the kind of song that can hold anyone. You don’t have to be on a fishing boat freezing to know this pain and gratitude for knowing someone who changed your life. And wherever they are, you know they’re living their best life, shining and doing the same thing for someone else—and that’s pretty rich.”

The poignancy resonates with anyone celebrating what once was—be it through diverging paths, break-up, illness, or death. Choosing to relive those moments so acutely, despite the bitter end, transforms something painful into a gift. To acknowledge the parts of yourself that were left behind and realize the lasting impact that changes you for the better allows you to heal and become whole again through gratitude.

“We all have those people in our lives,” Chesney explains in an official statement about the song, “who set you on fire with possibilities, make everything mean more in the moment and forever after that. It’s so technicolor and alive, you may not even realize when you’re in it. But when it’s done, you have to smile because you’re so much more for knowing them, so much more because of every second you shared.”

Here And Now , released in May 2020, marks Chesney’s ninth No. 1 debut on the all-genre  Billboard  200 albums chart. “Knowing You,” penned by Brett James (“Out Last Night,” “Spirit of the Storm,” “When the Sun Goes Down”), Adam James, and Kat Higgins, went to radio on February 22 as the album’s third single and impacts country radio Monday, March 15. As it currently stands, Chesney holds 31  Billboard  Number Ones to his credit.

“Knowing You” stood out to the artist. The intentional space between slow burns and percussion-built climbing chorus reckons with “the memories, the feelings, the details of not just what happened, but how you were changed in such powerful ways.” Constructed in the vein of his early work, the traditional tune is yet another enduring classic that crowns Chesney as a defining artist of his generation and those to come.

“I wanted to make a video where people could see it, even feel that connection and how it holds you going forward. To me, the people who touch your life in profound ways are everything, so this song—and this video—are for them.”

The boat is a keeper, the girl not so much. Though that butt is nice I'd rather ride the boat. Cedar any idea were it was filmed? Wonder why they shot it in black and white?

Cool vid, Kenny without a hat! Just wish that would have more of the boat and less of Courtney.

Video Location for pool and night scenes - Google Earth 26° 6'13.35"N 80° 7'3.11"W

The boat is Kenny's - purchased it right before filming began, unrelated to upcoming video shoot. How I know is irrelevant but I'm 100% positive it was his in the video.

the boat is kennys the house was a rental

I kinda doubt Kenny would own a boat like than and not have it re-named. Riva is the brand of boat. In the video you can see two people inside in a couple of the scenes where Kenny is on top driving.

As one of the only licensed women Captains that know how to handle a boat like this....I would love the opportunity to be part of the crew! Captain Karen 775-302-6287

Maybe Kenny wanted the Riva name on the boat and got a discount for making a 4 minute commercial for Riva. Then slapped "SS Chesney" on it after the vid.

kenny chesney video on a yacht

Got it from a pretty good source out of Ft. Lauderdale that the Riva is still for sale. However there is a smaller Riva docked at Paradise Island same color and 63' and it just happens to be a place where Kenny often docked his SeaRay. But based on the source the boat in the video is not Kenny Chesney's. Just saying.

kenny chesney video on a yacht

There are lots of boat that is on sale on Fort Lauderdale. But be sure to have your boat insured in the best insurance company like Boat Insurance Fort Lauderdale for your boat to prolong life.

This video is 100% perfect from start to finish; the yacht, Kenny of course, the model is fantastic in her simplicity, having Kenny's dog in the video, it's all just right-on! Kudos to the producer, photographer, and all involved. Love the black and white and slow motion effects!!! a perfect 10 if there ever was one!rds

The video is HAWT!!!! *whew* LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the yacht!!!! The black and white film, KC, and I want one of those swimsuits! (I'd gladly take the woman's place in this video!)

The Video, The Boat, Courtney, and Kenny was Perfect. More people need to Realize that Natural Women Are a dime a dozen. Courtney was perfect because she did not have make up piled on her to make her something shes not. Kenny picked the perfect Woman for this Video. Props to Everyone involved

Ive heard Kenny recently bought that house in the video

The vessel is absolutely amazing. Where can I purchase the paint used on it or find the paint code and brand?

12/14/2012 Key West The Boat's in Key West with a film crew and a Director with No hair. Is kenny in Key West? P.S. The Boat has a flag that says "No Shoes Nation".

Be more knowledgeable in watercraft. We should be aware of what we can do when incident happen. Accidents are prone in the sea and we should be aware of what could happen. It really is important for our own benefit. Watercraft Insurance Ft. Lauderdale

The boat? Beautiful. Courtney? Wouldnt mind hittin it!

This isn't a boat, it is a machine. It is his. I sold it to him. Just over $6 million.

The 86' Riva is not Kenny's. In fact, if you google the house they filmed at, you will find the boat docked at a neighbors house. Located on the south side of the same street. About 7 homes down.

I was taking the very over to St Johns on Jan 10, 2015. As we were pulling into St John the Riva was leaving and it sure did look like Kenny and he waved at our ferry. Its like I missed him by 20 minutes on shore. So sad.

That was NOT his boat.. It was a loner yacht just for this video.. Kenny Chesney's yacht at that time was a 63 foot Riva Virtus.. And the Riva used in the video is an 86' RIVA Domino..

Why. Was the girl in video. Kissing. Kenny Chesney. Alot. Kenny Chesney. Kissing. Her. In the video

The yacht in the video is a Riva Domino 88,my dream yacht, nothing better than a Riva

A Kenny Chesney Guide to the Virgin Islands: All of the Spots from the Songs

If you’re a country music fan, your first introduction to the Virgin Islands (a chain of American and British Islands in the Caribbean) just might have been through a Kenny Chesney music video.

And hey…if you’re planning a trip to the Virgin Islands just because you HAD to get to the place where the “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems” music video was shot, you’ll get no judgment here!

kenny chesney video on a yacht

That crystal clear turquoise water, those white sand beaches, and those lush green mountains are the stuff paradise is made of, and if you throw a little Kenny Chesney spotting in, you’ve got the makings of a great vacation!

First, a little disclaimer: Kenny Chesney in no way “discovered” the Virgin Islands but when he bought a house on St. John, started shooting music videos there, and frequently worked the mention of local places into his song lyrics; he did a lot to popularize them. So, if you’re a fan (and if you’re not, I’m not sure we can be friends!) here’s a little tour of the Virgin Islands that includes plenty of places that you’ll find referenced in his songs (and music videos):

kenny chesney video on a yacht

Apart from being Kenny Chesney’s home away from home (his home on Peter Bay was reportedly destroyed during 2017’s Hurricane Irma), St. John is an island with quite a few magical spots. Just a short ferry ride away from St. Thomas, St. John has a super laid back vibe and it’s just plain gorgeous.

kenny chesney video on a yacht

People who really want to see the Virgin Islands make St. John their hub (as opposed to nearby bustling St. Thomas). For this stop on the tour, check out:

kenny chesney video on a yacht

Cinnamon Bay : One of St. John’s prettiest beaches is a great place to sit back and watch the boats sail in and out of. At least that’s what Kenny sings in “Old Blue Chair.” And I agree. I could stay here all day.

Quiet Mon Pub : A second story Irish pub overlooking a bustling street in Cruz Bay, this is a local spot (a great place to grab a beer and watch a game).

“Hang with the locals at the Quiet Mon” like Kenny does in “Be As You Are.”

kenny chesney video on a yacht

Woody’s Seafood Saloon : Never mentioned in a song, but featured in the “When I See This Bar” music video, Woody’s is a St. John institution. Stop by for happy hour…it’s when this place is really hopping.

You won’t hear a lot about St. Thomas in any Kenny Chesney songs (probably because it’s too crowded), but if you’re on the island off a cruise ship, check out this spot:

kenny chesney video on a yacht

Latitude 18 : This is the only St. Thomas reference I found from Chesney, but it’s a

good one! Featured in his “When I See This Bar” music video, this is a good spot to wile the hours away.

Another island that doesn’t get much love is St. Croix, although it’s referenced in “Island Boy.” He sings, “He’s an island boy. Just a stone’s throw from St. Croix,” which is funny because St. Croix is actually one of the most isolated islands in the Virgin Islands and has to be reached by plane, not ferry! Most people traveling to St. Croix don’t island hop much.

kenny chesney video on a yacht

Tortola is the hub of the British Virgin Islands and because of its location, it’s usually visible from whatever island you’re on so it makes for great island gazing.

kenny chesney video on a yacht

“Tortola, a full moon, shining down on a blue lagoon” makes me want to do a little island gazing. That one’s from “Key Lime Pie.”

Virgin Gorda

kenny chesney video on a yacht

If you’re on Virgin Gorda, you’ll most likely find Kenny “floating around Gorda Sound with a cooler and a bong.” Whatever Kenny. The North Sound (opposite end from the Baths) is THE place to be on Virgin Gorda. Reached only by boat, hang out at either Saba Rock or the Bitter End Yacht Club. Bong optional.

kenny chesney video on a yacht

Norman Island

It’s not technically on the island, but Willy T’s is a floating bar just off Norman Island that is famous for general debauchery and pirate like behavior. So of course, it was featured in the “When I See This Bar” music video. There’s also a mention of a “Willy T in Abilene” in “Like Me” but I don’t really think there’s any relation. Being as one is in Abilene and one is in the Caribbean.

Jost Van Dyke

Well folks, I’ve saved the best for last! Not only is it arguably the prettiest (and most fun) island in the BVIs, it’s also home to the most references in song lyrics! “Oh I wish I was there tonight, on Jost Van Dyke. Sipping some of Foxy’s firewater rum.” That one’s from “Somewhere in the Sun” and yes…I have heard it played while sitting at Foxy’s, sipping their firewater rum. Mind blown. Also, when you have to say “Adios to Jost” you just might have a tear in your eye (that’s from “It’s That Time of Day.” Here are some other spots to hit:

kenny chesney video on a yacht

Sandy Spit : Not referenced in a song, but you’ll see this perfect little “spit” of sand plenty in the “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem” music videos. It’s straight out of heaven.

kenny chesney video on a yacht

Ivan’s Stress Free Bar : This place must be Kenny’s FAVORITE spot because he sure talks about it a lot. You’ll find him “kicking back with Ivan” in “Somewhere in the Sun” and you’ll also recognize it from the “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem” and “When I See This Bar” music videos.

kenny chesney video on a yacht

Foxy’s : Foxy’s is a Jost Van Dyke institution as mentioned above is referenced in “Somewhere in the Sun.” It also makes an appearance in the “When I See This Bar” music video. We’re talking about Foxy’s Tamarind, not to be confused with Foxy’s Taboo, which is great also but to the best of my knowledge not featured in a Kenny Chesney song or music video. Yet.

kenny chesney video on a yacht

Soggy Dollar Bar : This place is epic and so of course was featured in the “When I See This Bar” music video. It’s probably the most famous beach bar in the Caribbean so it definitely deserves a stop on your tour.

kenny chesney video on a yacht

One Love : And finishing up our tour, you’ve got to make a stop at One Love on White Bay (just down from the Soggy Dollar), which is also featured in the “When I See This Bar” music video.

kenny chesney video on a yacht

So there you have it folks! If you’re embarking on a Kenny Chesney inspired tour through the US and British Virgin Islands, you know where you need to go. But here’s a tip: don’t “pass out from too much Cruzan and diet or you’ll wake up to a hundred mosquito bites”. And if you do, Kenny Chesney has a song for you. He probably wrote it while he was sitting in his Old Blue Chair.

kenny chesney video on a yacht

P.S. Y’all know while I’m an equal opportunity beach goer, I’m a Hawaii girl at heart and I think Kenny is too. Check out his “Paia, Maui” hat in the “When I See This Bar” music video!!!

Kick back with Kenny Chesney’s Boat Captain Ben cocktail

With summer right around the corner,  Kenny Chesney ‘s showing fans how to make his Boat Captain Ben cocktail.

“Hey everybody, it’s Kenny. I am on a day off in the middle of the I Go Back Tour and there is not a cloud in the sky, and I’m just sitting here in the sun, having some fun, and I’m going to make what is called a Boat Captain Ben,” Kenny says in the opening of his  Twitter video,  before making the cocktail.

The recipe’s pretty simple. All you need is a bottle of Kenny’s Blue Chair Bay Coconut Rum and a can of sugar-free Red Bull. While Kenny mixes and sips the drink in his “mama’s fish house cup,” you, of course, are welcome to enjoy it from your cup of choice.

Fans can follow along by watching Kenny’s video and get a bottle of the Blue Chair Bay Coconut Rum at  bluechairbayrum.com .

Kenny Chesney fans dock boats along Allegheny River as concert approaches

JoAnne Klimovich Harrop

Country music star Kenny Chesney is a boater. His song “Guys Named Captain” begins: “Guys named Captain are always characters … Livin’ by the water, somewhere in the Americas South or Central or some Virgin Island.”

Or Pittsburgh?

Beginning three weeks ago, boaters have been anchored along the Allegheny River on Pittsburgh’s North Shore — some two and three deep — waiting for Chesney’s concert at 5 p.m. Saturday at Heinz Field.

And they don’t just park the boats to save a spot — they pretty much live on them leading up to the big event. The vessels have many of the comforts of home: comfortable beds, bathrooms, kitchens and big-screen televisions.

Many of the “captains” become friends.

“Kenny is a big boater,” said Joe Quealy, 53, of Latrobe on Wednesday afternoon. “There have been times he’s come down here. He even sang on one of the boats. I don’t think he will this year because of covid.”

Quealy said he brought his Four Winns boat from the Strip District dock on May 20. He stays for a few days and then a friend or two comes down with their boat to save the space, and they alternate so that no one person stays for three weeks. He will be there until the concert since he took off Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from work.

Quealy said Chesney owns a yacht and that song “Guys Named Captain” refers to the boaters who sit along the dock, about 200 of whom will be lined up on the water by the time he takes the stage.

There have been concerns at past Chesney concerts about the mountains of garbage left behind by concertgoers, but that’s not a problem with the boating community, said Drew Hill, 32, of Plum. He said they don’t leave a mess for the city to clean up.

“We are respectful,” said Hill, who has been anchored along the Allegheny River for almost a week. He is a traveling cardiovascular intensive care nurse, so he scheduled his next assignment for July.

A few of the boats had to move closer to PNC Park for two days to allow room for the American Countess steamboat, part of the American Queen Steamboat Co., which was in Pittsburgh from Monday until Tuesday evening.

Hill, who keeps his boat at the Sharpsburg Islands Marina, said they arrive days before the concert because of the festive atmosphere.

“It’s a Pittsburgh holiday when Kenny Chesney comes to town,” Hill said. “Country music fans love to be part of this atmosphere.”

During the week, they listen to all genres of music, and bands often come by and perform. Most of the boats are equipped for his 35-foot Carver Flybridge, which he calls a small apartment on the water. It has can sleep six and has a kitchen and bathroom, including a shower. He has a generator, and the refrigerator runs on a battery.

He named it “Can’t Be Shore.”

While he can cook in his kitchen, he prefers to grill out on the deck. He said each boater takes a turn making breakfast, lunch or dinner for the other boaters. They also frequent some of the North Shore restaurants.

“We all look out for one another,” he said. “Some will go into the concert, and others will just enjoy being here with everyone. There is nothing else like this experience of having a party on the water with other boaters.”

The area where the boats are is public, so they can be there free of charge. Most will stay until Sunday.

“We’ve missed it the past two years because of covid, so by Friday there will be more than 100 boats down here,” Hill said.

Justin Turk, 37, of North Huntingdon has had tickets for two years. He was in a spot near Heinz Field late Friday through Sunday and moved closer to PNC Park to make room for the American Countess.

“That big boat hadn’t even turned around and I was back in my original spot,” said Turk, who is self-employed.

He traveled from the Greene Cove Yacht Club in Greene County, where he keeps the boat. He said the Chesney concert is one of the bigger boating events in the city, adding that it’s a big party but it’s under control.

5132031_web1_ptr-boat-7

Turk owns a 40-foot Silverton Convertible. He didn’t know Hill until he docked his boat by him. Now, they’re friends.

“We have tailgated for the concert before, but boating is different,” Turk said. “Pittsburgh is a beautiful city, and you can’t see on land what you can see from your boat. The sunset reflecting on the water is breathtaking. There is a special connection among boaters — you can’t get this atmosphere anywhere else.”

Chesney’s tour was postponed for the past two years because of the pandemic. The “Hear and Now” tour kicked off April 23 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. Tickets are still available, starting at $35.

Andrea Bocelli interview: Famed Italian tenor on singing with his children, performing and faith

Kenny Chesney reveals what he texted Taylor Swift after her Person of the Year shout-out

kenny chesney video on a yacht

When your career highlights include 32 No. 1 country singles, nearly 18 million concert tickets sold since 2002 and one of the most devout fan bases in any genre of music, you might feel like relaxing.

But despite his persona as a chill, hammock-hanging dude with a hat brim shading his eyes, Kenny Chesney remains admirably indefatigable.

On March 22, he releases “ Born ,” his 20th studio album filled with crowd-pleasing anthems (“One More Sunset,” “Guilty Pleasure”) as well as more introspective fare (“Wherever You Are Tonight”).

A few days later, Chesney turns 56 and the chronic workaholic figures he’ll spend the day in tour rehearsals, even though he could give himself the day off, being the boss and all.

This year’s touring romp, dubbed Sun Goes Down, kicks off April 20 in Tampa, Florida, and will wind through stadiums until a three-night stand at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts starts Aug. 25. Joining Chesney is another handpicked lineup: Established hitmakers Zac Brown Band and Uncle Kracker and CMA new artist and song of the year nominee Megan Moroney .

Chesney has much to discuss, so from his home in Tennessee he waxed philosophical about guilty pleasures, the benefit of ice tubs and how Taylor Swift has brought the world together.

Question: This is your 20th studio album and 30th anniversary since your debut. Does it feel like three decades have passed?

Kenny Chesney: No, it doesn’t. But in some ways, maybe (laughs). I truly love creating and see that as one of the biggest gifts in my life. The first two records I made with (producer) Barry Beckett and the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section and then I’ve been with (producer) Buddy Cannon ever since. I’ve been so blessed to have these people around me. I feel like because of that I wake up every day with a sense of purpose .

That is quite a guitar solo on the title track. Are you itching to play that song live?

At some point this summer it will make its way onto the stage. It was one of the first songs I cut for the project and I felt it was a perfect way to kick off record. It defines how we live our lives – the details and all the joy. It defines the euphoria of being alive and not making it harder than it has to be.

Let’s talk about “Guilty Pleasure.” Aside from it being a lighthearted validation of no-strings sex, it also has a breezy Jimmy Buffett feel to it. As a longtime admirer, do you feel like you’ll continue to preach the aesthetic that he created? (Post-interview, Chesney was announced as one of the artists in the lineup for the April 11 Keep the Party Going: A Tribute to Jimmy Buffett concert at the Hollywood Bowl.)

I just try to go up there and do what we do and hope people come to our shows and have a great time. This song will help us continue that legacy. I felt like “Guilty” dives into the heart of human behavior. It was the last song I wrote for the record and it was a hard one to write. I felt like the song took the pressure off whatever the relationship is. It gives both people permission to just enjoy it. It’s honest and reckless in the best way and we had to write it in a way that didn’t make either person feel dirty.

On the other end of the emotional spectrum, does “Wherever You Are Tonight,” about loss and death, have a personal connection for you?

I’ve had a lot of friends pass. Some famous, some not. Some heroes, some not. This was a hard one. My friend Mike Reid wrote this song and I was struggling. I knew I wanted to record it, but it’s a topic that makes people uncomfortable. I would like to think there is something much bigger than all of us that we don’t understand. Those that have passed on are up there guiding us and looking after us and I don’t believe they’re gone. They linger in our lives and that’s what made the song. I engulfed myself in the song. The people I lost were so present in my psyche and my heart. They’re gone, but they’re not out of sight and I tried to channel that.

Taylor Swift gave you a huge shout-out in her Time Person of the Year profile . Were you surprised to find out how much that note and check you sent when she was starting out meant to her career pursuit at the time?

Yeah, I was. I texted her and told her thank you for the love, and I was stunned she remembered it. To see what she did with that and the person she is now and the artist she is now and the creator that she is now – it is unbelievable what she has become . I love Taylor. She has such a creative soul and that’s where all of this started. Everything you see, the stadium shows and big performances, are great. But she is still, I believe, at heart, a songwriter. That is something no one can deny. I saw that early, but I didn’t know it would turn into this. When she couldn’t do our tour (Chesney’s 2007 tour was sponsored by a beer company so the then-17 Swift couldn't join) and then she surprised me at a couple of shows and came onstage to sing with me, I saw that look in her eyes that you can’t teach. I told my promoter, “This child is going to be something one day.” But who can look into a crystal ball and know she would help bring the world together?

You have another stadium tour coming up. What is your preparation like?

I’m training really hard right now. I’m particular about what I eat. I’m on a treadmill. I’m morphing into this “other guy” and I love it. To do what I do and be good at it you have to have a little bit of ego. But if I had to carry that in my everyday life it wouldn’t be functional. I’m trying to get my brain and body and soul in a place where I can give everybody all of me.

So how exhausted are you by the end of the night?

I’m pretty depleted after each show . I really try to take care of myself now. I have a friend, (big wave surfer) Laird Hamilton , and he taught me a lot about my body as far as breathing habits. I’m mainly doing ice tubs. I beat my legs up so much on stage, so sometimes after shows I’ll sit in ice and let the band and crew do whatever they do (laughs). My life has really changed.

Changes in latitudes will bring the spirit of the Florida keys to the Hollywood Bowl next month, as the late Jimmy Buffett will get an all-star salute from a lineup of musical heavyweights that includes Paul McCartney , the Eagles , Brandi Carlile , Eric Church, Jon Bon Jovi and Kenny Chesney.

The one-night-only concert, dubbed “Keep The Party Going: A Tribute to Jimmy Buffett,” will take place at the Bowl in one month, on April 11.

Ticket pre-sale offers begin Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. PT, followed by a general on-sale through Ticketmaster Friday at the same time.

McCartney is undoubtedly the biggest score for the tribute’s producers, as the former Beatles has rarely participated in any sort of all-star tribute, although the Eagles are not exactly regulars on that circuit, either.

McCartney played on a song on Buffett’s final, posthumously released album, contributing to the number “My Gummy Just Kicked In.” He posted a lengthy tribute to his friend on Instagram soon after Buffett’s Sept. 1 death, writing in part, “He had a most amazing lust for life and a beautiful sense of humor. When we swapped tales about the past, his were so exotic and lush and involved sailing trips and surfing and so many exciting stories that it was hard for me to keep up with him,. Right up to the last minute his eyes still twinkled with a humor that said, ‘I love this world and I’m going to enjoy every minute of it’.  So many of us will miss Jimmy and his tremendous personality. His love for us all, and for mankind as a whole.”

The Eagles have been doing their part to celebrate Buffett by dedicating “The Boys of Summer” to the late singer at stops on their tour this year.

Chesney honored Buffett at the CMA Awards in November by singing “A Pirate Looks at Forty” with McAnally, while Zac Brown did “Pirates and Parrots” and “Margaritaville” on the same show with Alan Jackson.

Jackson Browne may have the longest history of sharing bills with Buffett, who opened for a number of Browne shows circa 1978, with the roles being reversed when Browne was invited to open several major Buffett shows in 2013.

The Hollywood Bowl salute is being produced by Live Nation and Hewitt Silva.
