This is the third RC sailboat construction manual I've written, and it's the most accurate. But it's also the one that I have the most anxiety about because I'm still a rookie in the IOM world and others are building such gorgeous boats. Unlike Star 45's and Vintage Marbleheads, which are great but not raced as much, IOM's are still very popular.

Classic wooden RC sailboater. Thread OP. The Alternative IOM is off the building board, the inside was cleaned up, and it's now fiberglassed in places and clear-coated with epoxy everywhere else. The weight is a bit concerning though... it's at 480 grams.

How to get started making wooden RC sailboats
After building the T37 I've gone on to build Star 45's, Vintage Marbleheads, and now I've just completed an IOM. Other than the T37 there aren't that many wood sailboat RC kits out there. There are things called "short kits" though. A short kit is where you purchase a bare minimum from a company and then you supply the rest.
Building an IOM rig
MAST HEAD. The mast plug can be adjusted so the small metal arm which the top of the sail is tied to, rotates really easily. Tap a thread into the bottom of the mast plug's smaller hole, and screw a small screw with a flattened end into the hole. Sharpen the bottom of the wire arm which swivels, so that it is a point.
