“ Sarafsa is the only 269-foot superyacht that has a two-story owner’s penthouse apartment,” designer Andrew Winch told Robb Report . “It’s a feature that doesn’t exist on 90 percent of yachts.”

The duplex includes an owner’s suite with a vast dressing room and walk-in wardrobe, a marble en suite with shower and full-sized bath, and a private salon forward with a bar. For new owners looking to maximize the space with minimum refit cost, there is a staff cabin and VIP that Winch suggests converting into a children’s cabin and private study. Open exterior decks forward and aft allow for a steady sea breeze, as the owner—who was last aboard his yacht in the summer of 2021—used to regularly enjoy.

The owner’s previous yacht of the same name was a 179-foot Damen delivered in 1997. That yacht was originally intended to be no larger than 98 feet so that it could be kept in the small bay near his home in Capriana, northern Italy, a perk that its final length prevented. It shared a Venetian-style Winch interior like Sarafsa ’s—burgundy and old gold with a large amount of heavy dark mahogany paneling. The biggest difference between the two is Sarafsa ’s immense 3,179 gross tonnages.

The vast 49-foot beam was defined by the owner’s request for a sun deck swimming pool that could remain filled while underway. To mitigate any roll, the boat was built to be wide and steady—at least 20% percent wider than most other 269-foot yachts.

The sun deck also contains a spa—hammam, sauna, massage room and a television mounted on ceiling tracks to be viewed from all angles. There is also a touch-and-go helipad aft. Two custom-built Winch-designed limousines and open tenders are stored on the main deck concealed behind opening hull doors, though there is a concealed crane on the sundeck to lift and store two additional tenders on the helipad when not in use.

Guests have the option of boarding the yacht from a waterside door starboard and stepping straight into a lift that ascends from the waterline to the sundeck. “It held the record as the longest lift on a 269-foot yacht until we designed Phoenix II ,” says Winch. The service lift goes one level further, descending all the way to the tank deck, and a second starboard hull door specifically for diving.

The informal salon on the bridge deck features a bar that is designed around one of the owner’s favorite hotels in Milan. Guests sit in armchairs rather than bar stools and the bar tender stands at eye level on a lowered floor.

“We mimicked that hotel bar on his first yacht, and he loved it so much we installed two sunken bars aboard Sarafsa ,” says Winch. The bridge deck salon also has a piano, fireplace (though never lit) and a “TV lounge”—one central television surrounded by 16 smaller televisions to “watch all television channels simultaneously.”

The six en suite cabins are dressed in cream, pink and pistachio-hued silks and named after Mediterranean destinations, such as Santorini, Portofino and Monaco. Marble colonnades and ornate flooring sit alongside intricate wooden inlaid surfaces. In contrast, the primary suite—named Sharma—has a bold color palette laced in thick velvet and a theatrical headboard. It’s in keeping with the dramatic deep reds and blues found elsewhere in the yacht, though Winch believes the interior lends itself to a light-filled, contemporary alternative.

“The wood paneling can easily be replaced with cream silk panels or painted white,” he says. “The architecture and joinery provide a perfect foundation without having to rip everything out.”

The lower deck houses accommodation for 23 crew and nine staff cabins with a continuous corridor that links the amidships engine room to the forward and aft areas, including a security office. Other key areas include a hair/beauty salon, a dedicated owner’s galley opposite the formal dining room and an 11-seat cinema.

In recent years the sun deck pool was replaced with a deep therapeutic jacuzzi that enjoys a counterflow current for fitness swimming. It sits under a retractable roof, sheltered from view and shaded from the sun, and mirrors the pool design aboard the 403-foot yacht Golden Odyssey , once owned by Prince Khaled bin Sultan, brother of Prince Fahad Bin Sultan, before it was sold at auction in Malta for an estimated €150 million ($162 million) in October 2022.

With an influx of gigayachts now coming onto the market, and American owners looking to build increasingly larger yachts, interest in refitting yachts like Golden Odyssey and Sarafsa is gaining real traction, says Nelson.

A luxury 242ft-long yacht has not only been designed to take you on the high seas but also to 'fly' above the water — as long as you have a spare £70 million.

The impressive design concept – called the Plectrum – was released by the Rome-based Lazzarini Design Studio.

Built out of dry carbon fibres that make it extra light, the Plectrum  uses a foil system so it can rise above the waves and glide along the water at up to 75 knots.

The superyacht's hull mimics the shape of the latest design of Prada's 2023 America Cup sail boat models.

Thanks to its three hydrogen powered motors capable of 5,000hp each, it can lift itself above the water's surface.

The foil system can be adjusted depending on the cruising needs and can change width from 49ft (15m) of beam, with closed foil when the yacht is berthed, up to 65ft (20m) of beam while the yacht is sailing on high speed.

The flexible design results in 'a different super yacht configuration which will allow much faster sea traveling than conventional similar size ships', designer Pierpaolo Lazzarini explained.

The four-tier yacht has six guests cabins along with a shipowner sweet, a swimming pool, and a helipad.

It also has a helicopter hangar, a central garage that can fit two tenders and a rear garage for water toys and a supercar.

At the moment, the yacht remains a concept boat with no set release date to be on to the market.

Who is Pierpaolo Lazzarini and what does he design? 

Pierpaolo Lazzarini is an Italian designer who works creating prototypes and concept designs, using artistic visualisation.

His company, Lazzarini Design Studio based in Rome, either supports entrepreneurs at the beginning of their design process or gets projects ready to launch on the market.

When creating concept designs, they use a number of 3D technologies and software to create very detailed images and videos.

The company works on everything from yacht design, automatives, product designs and even floating architecture.

Foiling refers to the use of hydrofoils that are attached on the hulls of fast boats, which help lift a moving boat and reduce drag.

This provides additional lifts when the boats reach planning speeds.

By installing the hydrofoil, it means the hull can be completely lifted out of the water.

The Italian creation is said to be a 'super light yacht', entirely composed and constructed using dry carbon fibre composite materials, which helps it reach its fast speeds.

Lazzarini explained: 'The Plectrum is a concept that can be built on request with an 80 million Euro budget.'

It is not the first futuristic yacht Lazzarini has designed, however.

Last year alone he designed three jaw-dropping yacht designs all with weird and wonderful features - and all costing millions.

One of these designs was the Air Yacht. 

The extravagant design, also made out of dry carbon fibre, could reach 60 knots thanks to four solar-powered electric propellers and two helium-filled blimps, allowing it to fly, hover and float on the water too.

It is able to stay in the air because its blimps are inflated with a gas that is lighter than air – in this case helium – while it gets momentum from its massive propellers.

The overall length of the dry carbon fibre structure would be nearly 300 feet (150 metres), with a width of 260 feet (80 metres), while the main central deck would measure 260 feet in length and 30 feet (10 metres) wide. Passengers' suites go around the concourse of both blimps

According to Lazzarini, the craft could fly at a maximum speed of 60 knots – nearly 70 miles per hour – for more than 48 hours.

An exact price tag was not put on the Air Yacht, unlike the Plectrum, but the designer said it was being created in mind of people with hundreds of millions to spare.

In March, a design was also released of for Lazzarini's £418million Sovrano, meaning sovereign in Italian.

The huge boat is a hybrid mix of a private yacht and a cruise ship.

The vessel features platforms on either side of the main deck that results in a beam - the width at its widest point - of 108ft (33m). It has a length of 555ft (169m).

Owners can decide on whether they want to use an electric motor or hybrid propulsion system which will power it along at 18 knots (20.7mph) or 31 knots (35.6mph).

If it were ever to be built it could become the widest yacht in the world.

With the ability to house 50 guests inside, in 20 private suites, the five-deck yacht also features a sunken oasis where palm trees surround a swimming pool.

It also has quarters that can fit up to 60 crew members.

The designer said the extortionate yacht would either suit an incredibly wealthy individual or alternatively a group of owners who want to travel privately around the world.

It has become normal for the world's wealthiest individuals to drop millions, even billions, on lavish superyachts.

Oil Sheikhs and Russian tycoons alike are spending their holidays on massive yachts with swimming pools, basketball courts, and even concert halls.

Rumors circulated online in August that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos had dropped $400 million on a superyacht called the "Flying Fox" with 36 guest cabins, a 12-meter swimming pool, and a helicopter pad. However, an Amazon spokesperson told INSIDER that the yacht does not belong to Bezos.

Walmart heiress Ann Walton Kroenke owns the Aquila, which is estimated to be worth $150 million.

The 281-foot yacht was spotted in Antibes in during the Cannes Film Festival in May, Business Insider  previously reported.

The estate of Microsoft cofounder Paul Allen once owned a 414-foot yacht dubbed the Octopus. It's valued at $200 million.

The yacht has 41 suites and cost a whopping $200 million to build, Business Insider previously reported. The Octopus comes with a pool, two helicopters, and a movie theater. If that's not enough, there's also a basketball court and recording studio.

Business Insider also reported that the yacht was spotted at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

The Al Mirqab, a $250 million luxury yacht that can accommodate 24 people, was built for Qatar's former Prime Minister, Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani.

The yacht won the Motor Yacht of the Year award in 2009. It has two VIP suites that each come with a bathroom, living room, and double bedroom, according to Superyachts.com .

The Dilbar, the world's largest yacht by gross tonnage, was built for Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov for $256 million.

The yacht weighs 15,917 tons (over 31 million pounds), Business Insider previously reported. The Dilbar has two helipads, an indoor swimming pool, and 3,800 square meters of living space.

The $300 million Al Said yacht was built for the Sultan of Oman in 2008.

It is 509 feet long, making it one of the biggest megayachts on this list, according to The Guardian . There's not much information about the Al Said's different amenities. It does, however, have a concert hall that can fit a 50-piece orchestra.

The gigantic $400 million Dubai yacht measures 532 feet and is currently owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Emir, or ruler, of Dubai.

The superyacht features a mosaic swimming pool, circular staircase, and helipad, The Guardian previously reported. It can fit 24 guests overnight.

Russian tycoon Andrey Melnichenko owns Motor Yacht A, which is worth $400 million.

The yacht has seven luxurious cabins that sleep 14 guests, Business Insider previously reported. It also has three swimming pools, one of which has a glass floor.

The Serene Yacht was purchased for 500 million euros (roughly $560 million) in 2015 by Mohammed bin Salman, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia.

The Serene is the largest yacht to have ever launched into Italian waters, according to The New York Times .

David Geffen, a billionaire entertainment mogul, has owned the $590 million Rising Sun since 2010.

Geffen originally shared the yacht with Oracle founder Larry Ellison, Business Insider previously reported. The 454-foot superyacht comes with a basketball court and can fit 18 guests. In April 2017, Geffen hosted the Obamas on the megayacht.

The owner of the $600 million Azzam yacht is unclear, but many speculate it is owned by the royal family of Abu Dhabi.

The yacht is also rumored to have its own submarine with a missile defense system, Business Insider previously reported.

At 590 feet long, the Azzam has long held the title of the largest superyacht in the world.

The $1.9 billion Eclipse yacht was delivered to Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich in 2010.

The yacht comes with two helicopter pads, 24 guest cabins, a disco hall, two swimming pools, and several hot tubs, according to The Daily Mail .

Channel 5 documentary Secrets of the Luxury Super Yachts has officially aired, and as well as some stressfully luxurious visuals (including the Mediterranean Sea – what we wouldn’t give to see it in person), it offered some rather mind-boggling numbers.

For example, did you know the average price of a super yacht is £40 million ($52.4m)?

Small change, really.

The hour-long show climbed aboard a number of the world’s 5,000 or so privately-owned yachts.

To qualify as super, the yacht must measure over 80 feet.

Some featured in the show, however, were 72 metres – which is 22 metres longer than an Olympic swimming pool.

Inside, viewers saw an array of everyday possessions including a £20,000 jet ski, an inflatable water park, a self-playing grand piano and a work of art made from liquid bronze.

Travelling from Barcelona to Monaco, we also met some of the staff on-board (who, in some cases, outnumber the guest), including captains, cooks and mates.

Other bizarre sights included the world’s longest inflatable water slide, which we’re now obsessed with, and an actual submarine.

Oh how the other half live.

The SARP Yachts build is a testament to synergetic style, showcasing naval architecture by Van Oossanen and interior and exterior by Red Yacht Design . Playing with light and visibility, integrated glass surrounds the entire saloon of the 25.9-metre motor yacht, allowing guests to soak up her natural surroundings and sea views. 

Edge is asking €4,950,000 with Denison Yachting.

Spirit of Venice

A synthesis of high-quality materials along with a respect for tradition and history endow 27.3-metre Spirit of Venice with a classic masterpiece quality. Penned by Olivier van Meer , who also conducted the naval architecture, the yacht's interiors are characterised by traditional styling and showcase a collection of artworks. Thanks to her reduced draft, she can enter smaller harbours and shallow sailing areas, while her stern platform allows easy access for her tender to slide into the water. She was built by VMG Yachtbuilders and delivered in 2018.

Spirit of Venice is asking €2,100,000 with Northrop & Johnson.

Wally vessels are a major contender in the world of sailing – and Y3K sets her own pace with an impressive racing pedigree in superyacht regattas. She boasts three consecutive Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup trophies, in part thanks to her powerful sail plan (she flies 1,162 square metres of sail downwind). Her sleek racing lines are met with a flush teak-decked terrace-on-the-sea aft, creating the perfect spot to relax, even underway. Equipped with a full racing wardrobe and equipment, the 30.5m sloop is ready to race.

Y3K is asking €3,800,000 with Bernard Gallay Yacht Brokerage.

Delivered in 2021 by Italian shipyard Extra Yachts , 26-metre Haze sports a “penthouse feel” with a full-beam master suite and interior design by Lawson Robb . Modern lines and eco-focused photo-voltaic cells set the tone for the motor yacht’s exterior design, while entertainment facilities include a tiered 50-square-metre open-air beach club with shaded al fresco dining, an aft-facing sofa set-up and steps leading to a hydraulic swim platform.

Haze is asking €4,400,000 with Fraser.

The first catamaran built by JFA Yachts and the first project undertaken by naval architect Joubert-Nivelt, 25.6-metre Azizam is built to cruise the world’s oceans quickly, comfortably and safely. Encouraging an al fresco experience when sailing, the aft deck is well-covered with ample dining and lounging areas. Set apart from many other catamarans, Azizam'’ s port transom opens hydraulically to allow easy boarding from the tender, and it also doubles up as a large beach club and swim platform. Her collection of water toys encourages guests to spend hours on the water, before lounging on trampolines on the foredeck.

Azizam is asking €2,200,000 with Northrop & Johnson.
