Featuring a great wealth of exterior spaces and a contemporary classic interior, the 70-metre Joy is the first superyacht to feature an exterior design by Bannenberg & Rowell and the first Feadship with an interior by the architects at Studio Indigo. The result is an astonishing superyacht which truly meets the owner’s brief to ‘create something totally different to every other yacht.’

All Feadships are, of course, pure custom creations and the vast majority are built for experienced sailors. The Joy project, however, was predicated on a fresh perspective, as the client is completely new to the industry and has never owned a superyacht before. The first of many distinctive aspects to result from this approach is the radical exterior styling, which brought with it a raft of challenges for the yard in terms of construction, fairing and painting.

Yacht JOY is a testament to Feadship’s single-minded production of quality and ongoing uncompromised attention to detail, as well as Bannenberg & Rowell (and the owners’) design flair.

M/Y JOY was launched and then delivered by Feadship to her owner in July 2016. Joy provides rare size, quality and outright prestige to the international yacht charter market. A superior superyacht in many ways she embodies a very successful collaboration of Bannenberg and Rowell Design and Feadship. While Bannenberg and Rowell penned her beautiful exterior lines, the famous Dutch yacht builder Feadship crafted her custom lines. A fresh approach to the yachts essential design shape has created rather inventive and innovative exterior styling. The yacht features gorgeous artistic, yet natural, shapes as well as slightly novel concave lines. By solving a number of the complex yacht building challenges associated with the yacht Feadship brought this wonderful project to life.

Outside In: Joy features extensive outdoor social and private spaces throughout her impressive five decks. This along with the ample use of windows and artistic use of glass to maximise the outside views enables a wonderful harmony between the exterior and interior, which is so sought after by contemporary yacht designers. For instance, ‘winter gardens’ zones were created to further enhance the comfort of the social spaces with pockets of air conditioned areas both inside and out. The overall result is a superior ocean lifestyle experience for those aboard, so crucial for the best luxury charter yacht vacations.

It’s safe to say Feadship motor yacht JOY is unlike any other 70-meter vessel in the charter marketplace today.  She has a completely fresh perspective on appearance and function. The yacht has radical exterior styling. She is truly a one-of-a-kind superyacht.  In JOY, Feadship built a yacht with an amazing wealth of exterior spaces. These fuse with a contemporary, classic interior.

Prior to building Feadship yacht JOY, her owner was new to yachting and a first-time yacht owner. He instructed the famed Dutch builder to “…create something totally different from every other yacht.”  To achieve this, the builder turned to the design team at Bannenberg & Rowell. Subsequently the first collaboration between this studio and the builder. The result is a dynamic exterior, characterized by levels of sculpted surfaces. The sculpted, complex surfaces, combined with the yacht’s stretched dimensions creates a unique profile that looks different from various angles. One observer described the yacht’s appearance as, “Reminiscent of a USS fleet spacecraft about to set off at warp speed.”

STUDIO INDIGO

Important to note, this was a first for the yard.  Interior design and ondeck furnishing commissions go to the architects at Studio Indigo. The vessel’s use as a wellness yacht charter platform is unique.  The owner created an open-air apartment-styled environment. Specifically, one that leads to a feeling of tranquility and harmony between indoor and outdoor spaces.   The studio paid great attention to each guest area.  The designer used 250 different types of finishes and textures. Specifically, in the decoration and styling. Moving about from deck to deck reveals a minimalist environment.  It is highly-detailed and truly captures the concepts of wellness and a harmonious lifestyle.

GUEST AREAS

As most time during a yacht charter is spent above deck, with friends and family, charter guests will find the exterior guest areas a welcome delight. The yacht’s compact superstructure allowed the design team to create spacious outdoor areas – ideal for entertaining at night and enjoying spa-like wellness activities during the day. There are numerous covered and fully exposed areas for socializing, dining, and exercising. There’s even a modified basketball court on the foredeck, with safety nets to protect the guests and gather in any errant shots.

To further fuse the indoors and outdoors, some external spaces, like the Wellness Garden seating area on the Owner’s deck, have air conditioning.

Onboard amenities for wellness-minded guests include a full gym, massage room, sun deck with Jacuzzi and bar, and an ocean-level beach club, which doubles as a mini party-zone with a large video wall and mood lighting.

The yacht accommodates 12 guests in 8 staterooms. The grand master suite is situated forward on the upper deck. It overlooks the expansive foredeck. Wraparound, full-height windows offer spectacular ocean views.  A large skylight floods the room with warmth by day. Moreover, starlight at night.

In addition, other accommodations include a VIP stateroom, three double cabins, and two twin cabins.  An eighth cabin is designated for support staff. For instance, a nanny or security officer.

Since its debut in 2016, the new Lagoon Seventy 7 catamaran has been in record-breaking demand. Built in France by CNB and designed by a super-star team of VPLP, Patrick Le Quément and Nauta Design, the Seventy 7 is the new flagship for builder Lagoon and boasts gentle and precise lines for a refined and harmonious overall look. As an unbeatable choice for a bespoke yacht charter holiday, JOY combines pedigree design with luxurious styling, a spacious onboard layout and exceptional performance to create a perfect all-round yacht that is ideal for every kind of adventure on the water. Finished to the highest standard, with superyacht DNA in its design, she offers extensive onboard spaces for its guests to enjoy. Large open spaces, with an easy flow, make the most of the catamaran’s huge volume and huge windows flood the yacht with light. Located on the main deck the huge main saloon forms the heart of the yacht, with sofas, a bar, dining space and entertainment systems. Beautiful accommodation is on offer, with versatile configurations to suit a wide range of group sizes and modern and luxurious spaces for guests to retreat to. A particular highlight is the master cabin, which includes a large ensuite, desk space, walk in wardrobe and generous living area. Direct access from the main saloon and out on to the cockpit and foredeck adds to the exclusivity of the master cabin space. Just like the interior, the three main exterior spaces are huge and provide the perfect base for outdoor living. Leading directly out from the main saloon, the large aft cockpit is home to a dining space, extensive seating and direct access up to the flybridge and down to the transom. CAPTAIN: Joe CAREW BOURKE New Zealand & UK passeports B1/B2 visas STCW’10 - RYA Yacht master Offshore Languages: English Joe grew up in Auckland, New Zealand where his family had a small powerboat that he used to spend as much time as possible out on the ocean, primarily water skiing and fishing. While completing a Civil Engineering degree Joe went on a sailing holiday to Croatia and accidently ended up with a job for the rest of the season. He spent the next few years trying to juggle a ‘normal’ job with getting away to sail as much as possible, before committing to sailing full time in 2018. Since then, he has worked extensively in Greece, Croatia, Spain and the Caribbean, along with delivering yachts all over Europe and completing four trans-Atlantic crossings. Joe has over 30,000 sailing miles and holds his Yacht master Ocean certification. Alongside sailing, Joe’s other love is endurance sport, and he has completed a number of marathons and Ironman triathlons. CHEF: Danica NEL South African Danica comes from an active family all the way from Kwa Zulu, Natal, South Africa. She has a bubbly personality and is a social chef that loves to interact with clients to share her passion and her recipes. She loves to experiment with international cuisines ranging from Thai to Caribbean and Italian to everything in between, bringing her own unique flourish and finishing touches to each dish. Her passion for cuisine was born at a young age having been raised in a very culinary household in a Mediterranean family where food always formed the centrepiece of every day and where she was always surrounded by delicious smells and tasty morsels coming out of the kitchen. After attending design school, Danica decided she wanted to spread her wings and combine her creativity with the culinary world in a career as a yacht chef. She trained at The Super Yacht Culinary Academy in Cape Town, followed by an internship under a Michelin star trained chef where she took her skills to the next level. She has since been sailing and cooking her way around the British Virgin Islands, where she perfected her charter chef game. After arriving in remote French Polynesia, Danica has enjoyed exploring the islands, adding some local recipes and ingredients to her vast repertoire along the way STEWARDESS: Georgie BARK UK Passeport B1/B2 visas STCW’10 Georgie was raised in the UK and grew up sailing on her family yacht, accompanied by dinghy sailing. She eventually ended up as an assistant dinghy instructor and spent a summer in Cape Cod as a camp sailing counsellor. Since then, Georgie has worked a summer as a flotilla host (where she met Joe), a winter as a chalet sous chef, and the last two and a half years on Anna Pink as the chef/mate. Although Georgie thoroughly enjoyed her time cooking aboard Anna Pink her primary interest has always been entertaining, and she jumped at the opportunity to take on the stew position on Joy. Georgie is a keen photographer and videographer and will definitely be able to send you some lovely memories of your holiday. MATE-ENGINEER: Luke HAMMERTON South African STCW 95 - RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Languages: English Luke grew up on the East Coast of South Africa with a real passion for the ocean. He has loved surfing and free diving since he was a young boy, so being immersed in and under the water became part of his everyday life. After finishing school Luke went on to study law, but then decided a sailing career was what inspired him most, so he allowed the winds to blow him in a new direction and towards a life on the sea. Luke’s first onboard job was as 1st Mate on a 72ft ketch cutter mono-hull that took him sailing around the East coast of Africa. After that adventure, he sailed the British Virgin Islands as a charter captain for four years, jumping between 49ft - 65ft sailing catamarans. He loved the experience so much and wanted to explore he more of the world, and what better place than on one of Lagoon’s flagship 77 foot sailing catamarans in French Polynesia. As an active waterman, Luke loves introducing guests to enjoy a new adventure on board, whether its snorkelling, wakeboarding or banana boating!

We had an unbelievable time on this charter! The crew blew us away with their level of service. We just spoke with the rest of our charter group, and they are very excited to start planning for our next charter. CJ was a spectacular captain and we would like our next captain to have similar knowledge about diving and marine biology. The size of the catamaran was perfect during this charter. There are no words to describe how wonderful things went! We are at the Four Seasons in Bora Bora for a few days before we head home. We actually invited the crew to join us for drinks last night because they were so fantastic! Thanks, CJ, I wanted to reach out to thank you and the entire crew for a fantastic vacation. We have been pleased by all the 2 person crews of our 3 prior ~50-foot charters and expected the same, but you far exceeded our high expectations. There is no comparison to be made with the televised soap opera expectations. You have the perfect Captain demeanor; confident and in command, without being superior. Your passion for the sea and its creatures is clear and inspiring, adding to our sense of adventure. Lexi also could not be more perfectly charming, engaging, and helpful. The perfect steward. Charter on April 2-9, 2023 / French Polynesia / American family of 8

The crew of JOY were well beyond our expectations. Captain CJ, a friendly South African, and his lovely wife Lexi, a Brit from Yorkshire have been in these islands on JOY for 5 years and know these waters exceedingly well. Luke, also a fully qualified Captain, was the ship’s engineer and did a great job keeping us safe and his partner Danica was the chef. We provided a bit of a challenge with three kids and a few dietary restrictions from some of the passengers. The meals were served family style, and were absolutely wonderful. Luke and Danica were also from South Africa. The yacht was spacious, incredibly well laid out, and was finished beautifully. We had not been on a catamaran before. My wife and I have been on perhaps 25 or more cruises, but the catamaran was a real treat for us. It was incredibly steady during some windy crossings. The absolute highlight of the trip was snorkelling these warm crystal blue oceans. Captain CJ took us to spectacular locations, where we swam with black tipped reef sharks. They are from about 3 feet to 7 feet, and are curious, but seem to be harmless. They bumped our legs to see if we should be lunch, and they swam right up to us. It was a bit nerve wracking at first, but as we got used to them, it was an incredible experience. We swam with endless types of tropical fish. Sort of like snorkelling in your dentist’s aquarium. Safety was always paramount, and the crew took incredible care of us. No one ever rushed us, and CJ always explained in great detail prior to us leaving the catamaran what we were to expect. Getting into, and out of tenders is always tricky, particularly for us at age 70, but they made it safe and effortless. We snorkelled most days in spectacular locations. There was one narrow channel between two islands where there was a slow moving current, a sort of lazy river. We snorkelled that lazy river two or three times each and saw endless tropical fish and colourful coral. The water is simply the best we have ever seen, and we have snorkelled around the world. All of the islands are surrounded by a coral barrier reef, perhaps two kilometres offshore. The water within this barrier reef is very calm. We went to a couple of local art galleries and a couple of pearl farms. This area produces amazing black pearls very sought after by jewelers around the world. We were sad to say goodbye to the crew. We felt that we had made true friends, and we look forward to sailing with them again, perhaps in a different part of the world. After we got off the yacht at Bora Bora, we are at the Four Seasons Bora Bora in their world famous over water bungalows for 5 nights. It is everything you would expect from a tropical, world famous Four Seasons. This was a world class trip, made particularly memorable by the crew and the yacht JOY”.

´Sailing vessel JOY is very aptly named...she is a beautiful, comfortable, unforgettable, modern, catamaran. The fantastic experience we were lucky enough to have in French Polynesia for 10 days was something our family will never forget. JOY is well appointed with every amenity and all the ocean toys you could need. The captain C.J. and crew Lexi & Jorge were exceptionally pleasant, engaging and very accommodating. They seemed to anticipate all of our needs and requests. Chef Jen exceeded our expectations! Every meal was creative and delicious. We were constantly telling each other what a treat it was to have this level of proficiency in our young chef! (and we are a family of restaurants and wine producers...not an easy bunch to surprise.) Wow, what a magical adventure the last 9 days have been. The deepest gratitude to every human on this special boat, JOY, for ensuring that our trip was one of the most amazing and tranformative trips of our lives. We leave today feeling as if we not only made 6 new beautiful friends but life long adventure buddies. Thank you for making us free the family keeping us safe, showing us the beauty of French Polynesia and keeping us in fits of laughter. Lexy you may be one of the funniest humans i´ve ever met. Your jou of life, lightearted attitude and witty humor were a big highlight of my trip. Thank you provideed me with so much safty, knowledge and some deep belty laughs. Thank you! There´s so much more I would like to share but words weren´t created to express my deep gratitude for the trip you are made possible. from dancing with daolphins encounters, delicious food and incredible company. One month charter on JOY - Rangiroa to Bora Bora - Aug.-Sept. 2019

This has been the most remarkable vacation - a month on a boat with an unknown crew - and for the crew unknown guests, was a step in the dark - it has proved to be one of the best decisions of our lives. Four weeks on a very special boat, crewed by four very special people has been a JOY and a privilege. CJ’s sailing skills took us to perfect locations at every stage - avoiding “bombies” all the way. Every member of the crew has contributed significantly to our enJOYment - never an empty glass and such quality and variety of meals that deserve Michelin stars. CJ’s knowledge of the likely locations of the different areas to view, from tiny fish to 4 metre manta rays is uncanny! We have had the most memorable sightings of whales, manta, sting and eagle rays as well as dolphins off the bow and sharks swimming around us. I don’t possess adequate superlatives in wishing to say a huge thanks to CJ, Lexi, Fabiana and Pablo - you have all been stars and made our dream a reality. From our hearts, thank you all.
