The yacht club with restaurant was near our Airbnb so we check it out. It’s pretty nice. Bar and tables, some on the water with views of boats and cruise ship. For the eve they add on tablecloth. Food was good, prices American: burger or fish / chips $16. They also had salads. U have to inquire about specials; 2 for 1 crabs and similar promos on certain days. Drinks were good, service too. Counting the food cost in the area it’s definitely a reasonable spot

Great spot for dinner and watching cruise ships depart. Every item in menu looks tasty and the curry goat was classicaly good and the service was exceptional!

I never ate at the restaurant, but while I was on a business trip in Jamaica, my client picked up food from the Yacht Club for our lunch on several occasions. I was always very happy with the food that I got.

This is a simple place with consistent quality of food and great attentive service. Everything we had on the menu was good and and very affordable. We found the serving staff to be very attentive each visit and enjoyable to visit with. There was no home run dish that stood out but we were very pleased with the consistent quality each visit.

This is in a beautiful location and you can get some good local food, jerk goat, jerk chicken, etc. It's a little bit out of the way but we enjoyed visiting Freeport.

This is a no no never ever again!!! Atmosphere was wonderful, but.. service and food was terrible!!! Beyond awful!!! And management was unprofessional and RUDE! Non accommodating and definitely not equipped mentally or physically to handle a large crowd as it was 14 of us. I wouldn’t recommend this place unless you know someone. I personally will never again patron this business!!!!!

Peppa’s Cool Spot

This open-air eatery boasts spectacular vistas of the coastline and jungle. Chef Pepper serves up typical Jamaican dishes like a half-pound of jerk pork, ackee and codfish, and curried conch at Peppa’s Cool Spot . The restaurant is the perfect place for a romantic evening date underneath the stars. You and your loved one will enjoy a fantastic meal at a little-known spot while basking in the soft glow of candlelight.

The Houseboat Grill

Have the memorable experience of enjoying a meal on the water at the Houseboat Grill in the Montego Bay Marine Park Fish Sanctuary. The menu offers freshly caught seafood served in an array of global dishes, and the daily happy hour starts at 5.30pm. The best place to sit at the upscale casual dining establishment is on the open deck overlooking the bay. Be sure to arrive early if you want to snag a table on the deck for sunset.

The Pelican Grill

One of the most beloved restaurants in Montego Bay, the Pelican Grill has a bright orange exterior and vintage pub interior and has been serving up delicious dishes for over half a century. Chef Robbie Joseph—who now also operates the Robbie’s Kitchen out at Half Moon—has long been known for serving good food with great harbor views in this joint inside the Montego Bay Yacht Club on downtown’s Freeport Peninsula. The best tables—especially once the sun goes down and, with it, the temperature—are out on the pool deck overlooking the boats in the marina. The menu is broad and varied, with local West Indian spices often popping up in the otherwise international blend of pastas and pizzas, hamburgers and surf and turf—along with the usual Jamaican favorites of jerked chicken, curried goat, and oxtail stew. It’s easy to keep dishes under J$2,000 (US$18) so long as you steer clear of the filet mignon and lobster—unless it is a Wednesday, when lobster dinners are two for one. There are actually many specialty nights, including Tuesday night wings (J$695/US$6 per dozen), and a Friday all-you-can-eat dinner buffet for J$2,850 (US$26) per person (plus two-for-one local drinks). The Montego Bay Yacht Club has offerings for members and visitors alike. Aside from berthing facilities and serving as a base for provisioning, making arrangements for Customs and Immigration and accessing other amenities from the local community, the Montego Bay Yacht Club serves as the base for major fishing tournaments and the ability to charter fishing excursions for those in the area without their own vessel.  Additionally the club house has its own on site restaurant serving lunch and dinner to the general public.

Tampa travelers, check out these tips before summer trips

The travel buzz for 2024 has been all about Paris for the July 26-Aug. 11 Summer Olympics. Before or after watching thousands of athletes compete in 32 sports, why not explore the French countryside? I recommend nourishing your soul and indulging at the new five-star Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa. The region’s first luxury wellness destination has a new 16,000-square-foot spa that incorporates treatments from Clarins, an iconic French beauty brand.

MONACO GRAND PRIX

Race car lovers: Did you get your fix during the Firestone Grand Prix in St. Pete this month? If not, follow your passion and head to Monaco May 24-26 for the Monaco Grand Prix. The glamourous Formula One motor racing event has been held annually since 1929. Stay in the newly renovated and iconic Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo, which dates back to 1864. This slice of Riviera opulence was the setting for two James Bond movies. Stroll a few steps to the Casino de Monte-Carlo, where I learned to play baccarat (and looked for George Clooney).

BY LAND OR BY SEA

Skip the traffic and arrive at Monaco’s yacht-filled harbor by boat. I loved the SeaDream Yacht Club, with a maximum of 112 guests, 95 crew members and five-star service.

Cruising is so popular that The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection announced that their ship, Evrima, is offering 21 new voyages in the Mediterranean from April to November. This is the first time a hotel company has expanded into the luxury cruising category. Watch for the debut of the company’s new yacht, Ilma, slated to embark from Monte Carlo on Sept. 2.

SAFARI ADVENTURES

For bucket list safari adventures, I turned to a local expert. John Harvey started Opulent Africa, a high-end luxury safari company, in 2008. He has been offering African adventures from his St. Pete office since 2020. “We advise our clients to take the direct 16-hour flight from Atlanta to Johannesburg,” Harvey said. His guests then fly into the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve and choose a first-class lodge (options include the Ulusaba Rock Lodge, Singita Boulders Lodge and the Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge). Here, guests can see the “Big Five” animals (lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and buffaloes) daily.

St. Pete resident Susan Robertson visited Kruger National Park in South Africa in 2022. “We stayed in Ulusaba, the private game reserve owned by Sir Richard Branson. Animals roamed freely and meandered alongside our private Jeep. (Branson) was there greeting guests!”

Phil Yost, a St. Pete-based business owner, visited Africa for the first time in August 2023. “Opulent Africa handled the details, so the magic unfolded with very little effort or stress. Feeding giraffes at the Giraffe Manor in Nairobi was surreal.”

AIRPORT NEWS

Tampa International Airport was named the second-best large airport in the country in USA Today’s 2023 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. The airport also added two new airlines for 2023. Porter Airlines began daily nonstop service to Toronto and Lynx Air started service to both Toronto and Montreal. On April 10, Frontier will resume flights from Tampa to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. On May 16, Frontier will bring back its route between Tampa and the Dominican resort area of Punta Cana, plus nonstop service to Montego Bay, Jamaica.
