A Closer Look at the $330 Million Superyacht Serene
The Serene is one of the largest privately owned superyachts in the world. She is in the top ten with regard to the length, but it's also among the most luxurious and extravagant vessels. The floating palace has accommodated some of the wealthiest people in the world. The estimated value of the Serene is $330 million, which also places it among the most expensive as well. She has an interesting story and has traded hands a couple of times. To fully grasp the magnificence of the luxury superyacht , we take a closer look at the elements that make it so special.
The building of the Serene
The Serene was commissioned by Yuri Shefler, who is a Russian vodka exportation magnate. The agreed-upon cost or the vessel was $330 million. He chose Italian Shipbuilders Fincantieri to complete the task, which was accomplished in August of 2011. The ship is classified as a Superyacht measuring 439 feet and 4 inches with a beam of 60 ft 8 inches and a draft of 18 ft and 1 inch. The gross tonnage is 8,231 tons and she is powered across with water by twin screw propulsion. The guest capacity is 24 with space to house a crew of up to 52. At the time of delivery, the Serene was the ninth largest superyacht in the world, but since that time, it has been replaced with larger vessels in this position and is now in the fifteenth position.
The history of the Serene
Yuri Shefler has entertained some of the wealthiest people in the world aboard the Serene. Bill Gates chartered the Serene for the cost of $5 million a week so he, Melinda and their three kids could enjoy some private family time together in August of 2014. They vacationed off of the coast of Porto Cervo, Sardinia, according to Boat International . This lavish yacht is the design of Espen Oeino, in charge of the exterior design, which offers a sleek profile. The interior is the creation of Reymond Langton Design.
Shefler was the first owner of the yacht, but he sold it to Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabian royalty in 2015 for the sum of 50 million Euros. Just two years after the purchase, there was an incident of concern involving the Serene. Due to propulsion failure and human error, the Serene ran aground in an area of the Red Sea notorious for shallow rock reefs. The hull at the bow was damaged requiring significant repairs. The incident took place in August.
The Serene was made available for charter by Shefler during the times that he wasn't using it himself. This luxury yacht is absolutely packed with amenities. For starters, there is a helipad to allow guests to move to and from the yacht for land excursions as well as sightseeing from the air, or for going out for entertainment at some of the more exciting ports. For enjoying recreation in the water, there are also jet skis on board and there is also a submarine on board to get some fantastic views of the marine life and environment beneath the waves. This yacht is made for family fun for people of all ages. there is also a trans deck waterslide, a climbing wall, several swimming pools, a playroom, a snow room and a cinema for a night at the movies.
Adult amenities
The Serene is built with a total of six decks which allows for private times as well for group gatherings. There is a sun deck with a super large bathtub built in. The Serene also features an area that is designated as a private beach club, complete with a sauna and area for sunbathing. If you enjoy dancing there is also s sundeck dance floor, a wet bar, extra sun loungers, and two jacuzzis. There are also al fresco eating areas on the exterior. On the interior, the Serene features a Teppanyaki grill, a wood-fired pizza oven, a barbecue, and a wet bar. There is also an underwater observation lounge for relaxation and watching the marine life swim around the outside. For accommodations, the Serene has 12 staterooms, all designed for luxury living with a VIP Suite, a master suite, three twin cabins and seven double suites with room for up to 24. There is also a sky lounge and piano bar onboard with luxury furnishings for relaxation and cocktails. There is also a formal dining room with floor to ceiling windows placed in a manner that offers a panoramic view of the outside environment.
Final thoughts
The Serene is a privately owned yacht which has a major difference that sets it apart from most of the other superyachts in its category. This one has been offered for charter since the time of its purchase, off and one. Many of the other privately owned superyachts in its category are only available upon invitation, and the owners tend to be selective about who is invited to come aboard. This is good news for those who have the going rate of $5 million per week to pay the charter fee. The Serene is one of the most luxurious superyachts in operation with an onboard crew that ranges from 40 to 54 to meet your every need for great food and even formal dining, wet bar and cocktail lounge services, and plenty of activities to keep everyone in your party entertained and relaxed. What we found so incredible about this ship is that there is a little something for everyone, whether you're into rock climbing, watching movies, playing water sports, swimming or going on an undersea adventure in the submarine that can dive up to 300 feet.

Keeping Up With the Bezoses: Zuckerberg Buys $300M Superyacht
By Lee Barney | Friday, 22 March 2024 10:41 AM EDT
Mark Zuckerberg is now the proud owner of a $300 million, 387-foot-long superyacht he has christened “Launchpad,” The Sun, U.S. edition, reports .
Originally commissioned by Russian oligarch Vladimir Potanin and built in the Netherlands, the yacht can sleep 24 and comes with a helipad and $30 million companion boat, as is customary for yachts of this scale.
Seen docked this week at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Launchpad requires a crew of 48 and costs $30 million a year for upkeep. That should not be a problem for Zuckerberg, the 4 th richest person in the world with a net worth of $180 billion , according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

The Meta Chairman and CEO earns between $6 million and $12 million a day, amounting to more than $3 billion a year, according to Business Insider estimates.
Zuckerberg was seen touring the ship in early March, and the vessel was first spotted in U.S. waters on March 20. Due to sanctions against Potanin, delivery was delayed — but comes just in time for the billionaire’s 40 th birthday on May 14.
By comparison, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, currently ranked as the world’s richest individual with a net worth of $201 billion, has a $500 million, 417-foot tall mega yacht named Koru, that has a swimming pool and helipad. The superyacht’s companion yacht, the Abeona, has a 264-foot garage to house Bezos’ luxury cars, private helicopter and jet skis.
Zuckerberg's new trophy grants him entry into ports frequented by other multibillionaires such as Larry Ellison and Bill Gates, as well as sanctioned Russian oligarchs.
It is not known when or how Zuckerberg acquired the vessel.

Putting the freeze on unsafe bathroom heaters – Voluntary recalls on Serene S2068 heaters
Published: 26 March 2024
Retailers are voluntarily recalling unsafe wall-mounted bathroom heaters.
On this page
“The Serene S2068 heaters which were manufactured in March 2021 have a manufacturing defect which can cause harm to people or damage to property” Ian Caplin, Business Specialist at Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
WorkSafe issued a prohibition of sale and use notice on Serene S2068 wall mounted bathroom heaters in February 2024. Now the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment has worked with several retailers to issue voluntary recall notices.
Unsafe Serene Classic S2068 wall mounted bathroom heaters prohibited (external link) — WorkSafe
“We are aware of at least 15 fires or overheating events associated with these heaters and want to encourage anyone who has these heaters to contact the retailer immediately” says Ian.
The manufacturer of this heater closed their business in New Zealand, which has changed the usual path of voluntary recalls.
“Instead of the actual manufacturer issuing a recall, retailers who sold the heaters have been encouraged to voluntarily recall them” says Mr Caplin.
“Even if the retailer that sold the heater hasn’t yet issued the voluntary recall, New Zealanders can reject the goods under the Consumer Guarantees Act and ask for a replacement or a refund.
Mr Caplin explains that retailers in New Zealand have a responsibility to provide consumers with a remedy when a product is deemed unsafe.
“If the heater was wired directly into your house rather than plugged into a wall socket, you can also require the supplier to arrange for its removal by an electrician.”
WorkSafe is investigating 2 other Serene bathroom heaters, models S2069 and S207T. Under recent testing these did not comply with required safety standards. Once these investigations are complete, MBIE will decide if further voluntary recalls should be asked for.
Information on recalled heater:
The prohibited S2068 heater is described as:
- wall mounted fan heater with step-down thermostat with pull-cord on-off switch, for fixed-wired installation in bathrooms and similar locations
- mirror polished stainless steel metal shell or white shell with die cast grille
- dimensions: 300 mm wide, 210 mm high and 110 mm deep.
The prohibited S2068 heaters have a serial number in the following ranges:
- VH145173 – VH147003
- VK154294 – VK160567
- WF167045 – WF168874
Further information on the voluntary recall and information on the suppliers can be found on the Product Safety website.

A Beach Picnic on Below Deck Goes Incredibly Wrong: “This Is a Very Dangerous Situation”
"I will do everything I can to keep a guest safe,” Captain Kerry Titheradge said about the difficult situation he dealt with on the recent episode of Below Deck .
It appeared to be trouble in paradise for the St. David crew on the latest episode of Below Deck .
How to Watch
Watch Below Deck on Bravo Mondays at 9/8c and next day on Peacock . Catch up on the Bravo App .
After losing two yachties (bosun Jared Woodin and stew Cat Baugh ), the remaining crew members are starting to feel the pressure of being short-staffed. On Season 11, Episode 8 of Below Deck , the charter guests enjoyed a laid-back beach picnic on the shores of Carriacou, Grenada. Although the day started off serene, it ended up getting cut short thanks to troubled waters and a rainstorm.

Captain Kerry Titheradge reacts to Carriacou’s beach conditions
Upon arriving on the shores of Carriacou to set up the beach picnic, Captain Kerry Titheradge expressed concerns about the water current to deckhand Kyle Stillie and Chief Stew Fraser Olender .
“Yikes, this isn’t great,” he said. “Do you see how far the water is coming up?”
Kerry then informed his right-hand staffers that they would have to unload all the equipment from the water because of the "shallow beach." While the issue required more work for Fraser and Kyle, Kerry reassured them that the “risk is worth the reward.”
Of course, the charter guests were thoroughly impressed with their offsite lunch location, which included activities like snorkeling, swimming, and sunbathing.
Ben Willoughby experiences engine “trouble” with the tender on the beach
Moments later, Ben Willoughby soon found himself in a bind after he mistakenly was pushed too close to the beach by the current while dropping off a charter guest.
After trying several failed attempts to start up the engine, Kerry stepped in to help Ben resolve the issue.
“It’s the sound that you never want to hear,” Ben said in the clip above. “Sand gets sucked up in the impeller. It’s like a grinding, crunching sound – it means you’re in trouble. F-ck!”
Due to a shortage of vessels, the St. David crew had to figure out a way to transport their guests back to the yacht. Kerry proposed an "all in one" solution, which involved having everyone pile in a boat and towing the tender behind them.
What Cat Baugh's Been Up to Since She Left Below Deck Season 11
The below deck crew deals with a “very dangerous situation”.
While attempting to board guests onto the boat, Kerry had to navigate through troubled waters and an incoming storm. Keeping everyone's safety in mind, he instructed them not to "move towards the boat" until he approved to do so.
In his confessional, Kerry revealed the severity of the circumstances he was dealing with.
“Nothing crops safety. I will do everything I can to keep a guest safe,” he clarified. “I’ve got to read the waves, bring the boat in on a calm wave, and back it out on the high waves…”
He added: “This is a very dangerous situation I’m in right now.” In the end, Kerry safely got everyone on board before it started raining.
