CANDY EVANS casts her eye over the 2020 version of an old favourite motorhome

By CANDY EVANS

Posted on 11 december 2020.

It feels as if it were a life-time ago that I took a Mobilvetta A-class motorhome to Teversal Club Site for a weekend. Looking back through the archives, it turns out it was before Christmas in 2016. In my review I wrote: “The clean exterior lines, without the van-like cab, give it presence on both the road and the campsite”. This still holds for the current version of the K-Yacht, though it’s arguably even better-looking now, with slightly more muted graphics and the big advantage of a door for the driver.

Welcome to the Out&AboutLive forums, diga.

A fuel-filler problem with a New Zealand 2019 K-Yacht 79 was mentioned here last month

https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/topic/61221-mobilvetta-fuel-filler-issue/#comment-707085

so you might find it useful to discuss your control-panel fault with that motorhome's owner (GeoffC).

I also notice that there is a quite large (over 1000 members) UK Facebook group for owners of Mobilvetta K-Yacht models

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1974893295910709/

and if control-panel unreliability is a known issue with these motorhomes, that's where hands-on advice is most likely to be found.

(Unfortunately, if a motorhome manufacturer chooses to install unusual sophisticated electrical equipment and things go wrong with it after the vehicle's warranty has expired, it's commonplace for the motorhome's owner to be faced with a very large bill to put matters right.)

onecal

Then again as Derek has pointed out you have a large membership following , so why not make your feelings known as a group, if these control units are going down. I have no idea who in NZ could look at your control panel Someone in that large group may be able to advise

As diga has mentioned, the TrailLite Group is the NZ importer/dealership for Mobilvetta (and Burstner & Elddis) motorhomes.

https://www.traillite.co.nz/motorhomes/

Presumably TrailLite has inspected the control-panel and concluded that replacement is the only option.

(It might be useful to know the control-panel's make and model.)

Sydney1

There are a number of companies that repair pcb's etc that might be worth trying

As Diga, is in NZ why not send him some contact details in that area if you are aware of companies within

It looks like Mobilvetta uses Nordelettronica 'habitation area' electrical equipment and that the control-panel in Diga's K-Yacht may be this one

image.png.5bd0ed3a396ad6e3d74576d7b8cfcabe.png

I'm guessing that this panel is 'bespoke' (ie. made specifically for Mobilvetta) and - if that's the case - a replacement panel could well be very expensive.

Yes that panel is available in Italy for around €350 /£305, surly it's available in NZ and indeed, if it is the same panel should be repairable down there .

Are you sure about that?

Nordelletronnica has been marketing control-panels with a "NE273" reference number for some time and with a design that looks like this.

image.jpeg.acd12b308b3440ed98e00ce952abd39f.jpeg

These certainly can be obtained for around €350, but I can't find any pricing information for the NE273 7S panel (though I'm now beginning to doubt whether it would have been fitted to Mobilvetta motorhomes in 2018).

If Diga provides details (make and exact model) of control-panel fitted to his 2018 Mobilvetta K-Yacht 79, it may be possible to say whether a replacement panel could be sourced at a more reasonable price.

It looks like this is yet another thread where a new forum member posts a question and then never returns for a follow up...

image.png.f4a2da9ebe9d1fc528a66117cf0036bf.png

@diga if you are still following please post more details on your control panel make/model. Thank you.

Yes ,looks like we are talking to ourselves again

This link is to the 'Help Centre' website of the New Zealand dealership (TrailLite Group) for Mobilvetta motorhomes and the advice given relates to the main control-panel's functionality.

https://knowledge.traillite.co.nz/en/knowledge/lesson-one-control-panel-mobilvetta

The control-panel shown on the video is clearly a Nordelettronica NE273 7S unit and - when the panel is switched on - what appears makes it clear that the panel is 'bespoke'.

image.png.b5a10ecf9386f34b242acb6111f672c1.png

I said earlier that I was unsure whether the NE273 7S panel would have been fitted to a 2018-vintage K-Yacht. However, this  2017 multi-lingual Mobilvetta User and Maintenance Manual includes information on that panel.

https://www.camperinfinity.app/istruzioni/mobilvetta/Mobilvetta_2017.pdf

The alternative panel described in the Manual is a Nordelettronica NE276. This is a much less sophisticated unit than the NE273 7S and I'd expect the NE276 to be fitted to cheaper Mobilvetta models. The panel shown in the Manual is actually referred to as a NE276 M  and carries the word "MOBILVETTA" on it - so that might also indicate 'bespoke' functionality.

Returning to Diga's original enquiry, I don't think anyone on this forum will be able to comment productively on whether the control-panel fitted to K-Yachts is known to be problematical. And - given the design/specification of the panel -  it is probably not realistic to expect a repair to be practicable, nor to obtain a replacement panel other than through a Mobilvetta dealership (and at whatever the asking-price is).

If "Diga" confirmed his model of panel  it would have been very helpful

They are available in Italy from €280 to €350 and much cheaper that what dealers may quote as Diga advises they were looking for thousands???

A NZ dollar is currently worth £0.49 = so the cost of a replacement panel may be disheartening but not require remortgaging the house...

I have found no on-line adverts anywhere for the 7" touchscreen panel, though a recent Nordelettronica catalogue includes the panel as one element of a multi=component electrical system (control panel + distribution/fuses box + water reservoirs contents sensors + wiring looms). No price details though and the panel will be a 'universal' version, not Mobilvetta specific.

I would advise Diga to contact some of the Motorhome Clubs in Italy and they will help him out without hesitation in purchasing the control panel as  i have advised for €280 -€350 (495NZD-618NZD) depending on spec

He can PM me if he wishes for further contact

It is not a question of a VW driving better more power than Fiat, since the have also 6 cylinders etc. A 2.5+ metre high 6 meters long will not be driving better than same van brand 2 metres high and 5 meter long. It won't park in the same spots. It can't be used as a second car. Your motorhome looks awesome, but it's a different concept. Click to expand...
GrannyJen said: I do see it, most days. The MP is a lovely vehicle but amazingly most dealers do not know the difference between a coolant water heater and an eberspacher auxiliary heater, most complain about the space taken up by the table and chairs, the lack of a 4WD option left many, including me, totally having to rule out an MP as an alternative to a Cali, one hell of a lot of complaints about the rear seat recline into a bed and lack of reliability in being totally flat (and where the reset button is depends on vehicle year) so to portray it as a cali-beater is a little ingenuous. It is an alternative, a very nice alternative, but has it's limitations and also it's restrictions. Click to expand...

Quentin SF said: You can get it based on a Ducato, too. In fact, you can get a huge range of variations on the basic theme of the Murvi lounge. I've borrowed (and really liked) my friend's ancient Murvi Morello before I ever had a van of my own. What I haven't ever tried is driving an up-to-date larger van base, like the Ford or the Fiat, so I don't have a feeling for how that would compare to my LWB T5. Click to expand...
Bellcrew said: I have tested a couple of Murvi Pimentos on the Ford base, an auto and manual, whilst the Ford is not a patch on the Cali as a drivers vehicle the conversion does have a lot of plus points. If they used the Crafter MWB base it would be a killer conversion. Click to expand...

Agree the Crafter is great. Makes you wonder why VW didn't look to users to design rather than the lump they produced in the GC. Most on this forum could have done much better.

Moved from a T4 Colorado to a Cali because of size, the Cali is so much easier in towns/ cities handles better and is quicker, yes there are downsides but they are the compromises I’m prepared to take. To each his own.....

On my Cali I removed the parcel shelf, moved the rear bench all the way to the rear enough to access even the cup holder next to the sliding door. It feels a lot more spacious this way than any average big white. Click to expand...

We went. We saw. We bought. So we did the opposite. We have had 2 California’s. A beach and currently have an Ocean. We have loved both and had some great trips in them. They are amazing to drive and very well equipped, well built but we don’t use it as a daily driver so it purely a camper, in good weather when the roof is up we find the space fine but on a very wet and very wind weekend using just downstairs is cramped and constantly moving things around. So we ordered a Hymer Free 540,factory order and a well specced one.At only 0.5m longer is comfortably fits on our drive and will still be one of the smaller vehicles on most campsites, with a transverse bed and enough standing room we can arrive late in what ever weather and be totally self contained. We know it won’t drive as well,be as quick or as economical, so I might be the odd one out but I actually like a van to drive like a van.It doesn’t need to be car like, we have 2 cars for that. When I think back about our trips the most memorable things are the camping, cooking, weather and not the drive their and back(in most cases) So giving up a bit of driving experience to gain a bit of camping comfort is a trade off we were prepared to make. Not ready for a big white, still very much in a camper van and in between a Cali and Grand Cali size wise. So next month our Ocean goes up for sale in preparation for the Hymer Arriving.Happy camping and hope to see plenty of your wonderful callis on site this spring.

We're just about to order a new van and have narrowed it down to either a 6.1 Cali Ocean or a Hymer Grand Canyon S or Duo Car S. Not a lot of payload. If it's on the light chassis, there's not a lot to play with either. A van that's almost 7.5m needs to be on the heavy chassis IMHO.

Have an 85 from new in 2018. Very pleased with the level of standard equipment. After 3 years and regular use it’s holding up well. I have it on the 4400kg chassis. Looks a bit unusable on a 3500kg. A few teething issues that either me or Marquis sorted. I would consider Mobilvetta again
