We are back from our arctic adventure and had a wonderful time. Everything went perfectly: the boat was excellent, the captain and crew were positive and helpful beyond our expectations, Martin was a great guide, and the sun was shining almost every day. We saw all of the wildlife we expected, including the most unique narwhale sighting imaginable. In some areas, winter temperatures can drop well below -10°C (14°F) or even lower.

A humble port town brimming with Norwegian charm

Perched in a southwesterly corner of Norway’s coast, Stavanger is a quintessential Norwegian town filled with ancient tales and fairytale charm. Famous for its many attractions, both natural and man-made, any amount of time spent here during your Norwegian yacht charter vacation will be enriched by its proud history and magnificent landscapes.

Founded in 1125, Stavanger was known for shipbuilding and fish canning until the 20th century, when oil was discovered in the North Sea. Since then it’s been known globally as the Oil Capital of Norway, but rest assured, you won’t see any hint of industrial operations while exploring the town. Instead you’ll find charismatic houses, compelling museums, and dramatic natural vistas as you amble along the fascinating streets.

Perhaps one of the most well-known and beautiful areas of the town is ‘Gamle Stavanger’ or Old Stavanger. Found close to Vågen Harbour, this historic quarter boasts Europe’s best preserved wooden houses. There are over 150 white buildings lining the meandering cobbled streets, providing a backdrop with vintage style street lamps, colourful flowers, and bright front doors, all of which make this protected area one of the best places to see during your trip to Stavanger. You’ll feel as if you’ve taken a step back in time as you tread the narrow lanes, once populated with the workers of the sardine canning industry.

If history buffs are not satisfied there, they can learn more just a short distance from the picturesque old town. The Stavanger Maritime Museum will allow you to peek further into the town’s history and learn what life was like during its ship building days. There are also two further museums which are well worth a visit, where the exhibitions are particularly interesting and surprisingly interactive. The Norwegian Canning Museum and the Norwegian Petroleum Museum are brilliantly engaging for children and adults alike, and you’ll learn a lot about the rich history of the town in a fairly short space of time, as it doesn’t take long to walk around these attractions.

For a break from the sights, head to the harbour overlooking the beautiful reflective waters of Vågen Bay. A few minutes walk from Old Stavanger, cafes and restaurants line the street and it’s the perfect spot to stop for lunch. Admire the glittering waters of the bay, as you enjoy a sumptuous seafood lunch at Fisketorget, or partake in an Italian coffee and some people watching at Villa 22 Trattoria, as you while away an hour or two. While you explore the area don’t forget to look down at your feet as you wander around the Path of Peace, and try to spot the tiles of footprints belonging to past Nobel Peace Prize winners.

A short walk from the quaint harbour area is Domkirke, Stavanger’s recently restored medieval cathedral. Majestically rising above the charming Scandinavian buildings, its gothic architecture and colourful stained glass windows are imposingly beautiful. Domkirke is one of the most well maintained old churches in Norway and has been in constant use since the 1300s. A mere stone’s throw away from here is Lake Breiavatnet, a man-made lake in the middle of Byparken with an impressive fountain. The two compliment each other exquisitely, and provide a serene haven in the centre of the town.

Norway’s stunning fjords are, of course, one of the main attractions for visitors every year, and Stavanger’s neighbouring Lysefjord is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the country. Boat tours are available, or sail your crewed yacht charter deep into the stunning region, where the sheer rock faces loom over you on both sides and roaring waterfalls plunge into the inky depths below.

7-Day Luxury Norwegian Yacht Charter Itinerary

On a Norway yacht charter , float through a breathtaking landscape of deep, clear fjords and snow-capped mountains, apple orchards and wildflower meadows.

The Norway fjordlands are otherworldly, a place rich in Viking myth and nursemaid’s tales of trolls and faeries. Mists hang over the forest, seals and porpoises play by the yacht, and waterfalls plunge from thousand-meter cliffs, the spray creating rainbows in the pine-scented air. This is cruising like nowhere else on earth.

Spend active days hiking on glaciers or white-water rafting, or stroll through brightly painted fishing villages, their red and white wooden houses reflecting in the mirror-still water of the fjords. In the evenings, relax in the steaming Jacuzzi on the sundeck, drinking champagne under the midnight sun, as the glimmering twilight lingers all evening, painting the film-set landscape every shade of pink and hazy blue.

For all its quiet beauty, Norway is also a center of culture, with magnificent art deco towns and UNESCO-listed cities famous for their orchestras, museums, and nightlife. And boasting 19 hours of daylight in high summer, Norway is a dream yachting destination with endless hours to explore and relax, shop and dine as you cruise along the coast.

While there are over 1,000 fjords in Norway and a multitude of possibilities for your Norway superyacht charter, this suggested itinerary visits three of the best: Lysefjorden, Hardangerfjord, and Geirangerfjord.

Day 1: Stavanger & Lysefjorden

Join your yacht in the picturesque town of Stavanger, where you’ll find a 12 th century cathedral and cobbled lanes lined with boutiques and white painted houses. Board your yacht at midday and enjoy a delicious seafood lunch on deck as the yacht gets underway for the short trip to Lysefjorden.

Before long, you’ll be surrounded by thousand-meter cliffs looming above your charter yacht as it powers up the fjord, where seals slip through the deep water and wild goats graze on steep hills along the way.

You can also hike or take a bus up to Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) for a view across the fjord that you’ll never forget: this cliff was voted the most breathtaking viewing platform in the world by Lonely Planet. Head back to your yacht to anchor for the night and drink in the silence and beauty of this place as the midnight sun lingers over the landscape.

Day 2: Rosendal

By the time you wake and head out for breakfast on deck, the yacht will be well underway for the romantic city of Rosendal on the Handangerfjord. This gorgeous town is framed by mountains and the Folgefanna Glacier, meaning that options for activities are endless.

Do you want to hike or summer ski on the glacier? Take a helicopter trip above the landscape? Or kayak in a lake beneath the glacier? The area around Rosendal is a hiking and adventure paradise, while back in town you might want to explore the sumptuous gardens and buildings of the Barony, Scandinavia’s smallest palace.

Day 3: Hardangerfjord-Lofthus

Today you’ll cruise deeper into the Hardangerfjord, where brightly painted villages are surrounded by green fields, waterfalls plunge off high escarpments, and orchards of apples, pears and cherries line the banks, giving this fjord the title of “The Orchard of Norway.”

If time allows, the yacht will venture all the way to Eidford to see the staggering Voringsfossen waterfall, while other possible activities include white-water rafting, canyoning, cycling, and hiking.

The evening will be spent in Lofthus, near the Kalrassen waterfall, where you can fill your glass up with sparkling water from the bow of the yacht. In Lofthus, visit Hotel Ullensvang, where you can dine in the wine cave or swim in the heated pools.

Day 4: Bergen

After breakfast, the yacht will head back up the fjord to Bergen, the ancient capital of Norway and a magnificent city of culture. This colorful UNESCO city is famous for the color and life of its wharves, where colorful facades overlook the bustling fish markets, as well as its world-class museums, art galleries, and boutiques.

Spend the morning exploring Bergen, enjoying the great shopping and café scene, before lunching offshore on Holman Island, where the famous Cornelius Restaurant serves up enormous seafood platters. Alternatively, you might wish to take the 2-hour drive to board the Flam Railway, the steepest rail line in Europe with jaw-dropping views.

Back in Bergen, take in an evening performance by one of the world’s oldest symphony orchestras, or visit one of Bergen’s great bars. When you return to the yacht, the captain will get underway for an overnight trip to the Geirangerfjord.

Day 5: Geirangerfjord

UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord is the third largest fjord in the world and cannot fail to astonish with its deep teal waters, snow-capped mountains, and sparkling waterfalls. This is often called Norway’s “fairytale fjord,” and it’s easy to see why, as this place has an ethereal beauty about it that conjures up tales of trolls and faeries and long-dead Vikings.

Cruise to the Seven Sisters waterfall, go river rafting or climbing, or hike along forest paths of heart-soaring beauty. The view from your yacht will astound you, as you look up steep cliffs to see little farms perched on grassy outcrops — so steep, in fact, that farmers used to tie their children to trees so they didn’t fall off!

In the afternoon, head to the local Geiranger Brewery, which is housed in a boat house, or head to Hellestylt Boutique and Bar to try some of the local produce.

Day 6: Geirangerfjord

Spend the morning exploring more of Geirangerfjord by yacht or kayak. Alternatively, the captain can organize for a car to meet you for a drive up the incredible Trollstigen mountain road. Meaning “Troll’s Footpath,” this winding, dramatically beautiful road is world-famous for its stunning lookouts and 2,000+ foot elevation.

In the afternoon, the yacht will make its way back along the fjord to Alesund, Norway’s prettiest city. Damaged by fire in 1904, it was rebuilt in colorful Art Deco style and is a delight to behold, with its spires and ornate towers. In the evening, you might wish to dine at Sjobua, a fine seafood restaurant, before strolling back to the yacht through the pretty streets in the long twilight.

Day 7: Depart from Alesund

To get a great vantage point of the town and surrounding fjord, walk up to Fjellstra Viewpoint above the town in the early morning, before heading back to your yacht for an early lunch before departure.

A Norway yacht charter can offer some really lovely sailing.  While it is considerably cooler than some of the other European destinations, you can still enjoy great weather. 

You will find July and August to be the sunniest and warmest months, with average temperatures around  20°C / 68°F.  May is the driest month, which is an important consideration given the mountains that trap rain clouds. 

However, if you plan to visit between May-August you will be able to see Norway at it’s finest.

During the summer months, on average onshore winds will blow at 3-4 Bft from the west. Be sure to check the wind and weather forecasts regularly, so you are not caught off guard by any strong winds!  

You’ll start your yacht rental adventure from Stavanger , which is well connected to two nearby airports: Stavanger Airport, or Haugesund Airport. 

Stavanger Airport is about 32 km from the base. 

Haugesund is slightly further out, at 62 km away. Both have frequent flights from many European destinations.

Tip #1: Important to note that Norway uses the Krone, so if you would like to pay with cash, you should arrange to do the exchange before you leave, or from a kiosk in the airport. However, many places in Norway accept credit cards. 

Tip #2: With Norway’s landscape, you’ll be keeping very active. Make sure you bring your hiking boots so you can fully explore places like the Kalrassen waterfall! 

Tip #3: For more cosmopolitan settings, you can explore the capital city of Bergen, a UNESCO site known for its colorful buildings and unique culture.

Bareboat chartering is for sailors that are competent at handling a boat on their own without a hired crew. The skipper must be an experienced sailor able to read charts and understand general yachting safety while the first mate must be able to handle the boat if there is an emergency.

Bareboat chartering gives you complete freedom, independence and privacy on your own yacht during your holiday. Once you have had your chart briefing you will be able to set your own itinerary and travel at a comfortable leisurely pace that suits you.

Skippered charters are ideal for beginners wishing to gain experience, people who love the sea but don’t sail or anyone looking for an experienced skipper to take full control of the yacht and guide you through unfamiliar cruising grounds. With in depth local knowledge the skipper on board will take you safely to your chosen anchorages, show you hidden treasures and advise you of the best areas to visit, swim and restaurant to dine at.  They will share their knowledge of boating and the surrounding sailing ground, help you passage plan and show you how to safely manoeuvre your yacht so that you can gain experience and confidence.

If you prefer to simply relax, enjoy the sunshine and explore what the country has to offer, the skipper will take full responsibility for sailing you around your chosen destination.

We will be happy to arrange a partly skippered trip if this is required. You may want to hire a skipper for the first few days until you are familiar with the boat, especially if the yacht is slightly larger than one you have previously chartered or if you have not sailed for a while and would like a short refresher course. Crewed yacht charters are ideal for people looking for a luxurious holiday on the ocean. Having a crew means you can relax on the deck and spend time with your family and friends whilst your drinks are being poured and the boat is being sailed for you.

Concert promoter Live Nation is getting into the ultra-luxury cruise business — see what it'll be like on weeklong superyacht sailings starting at $3,000 a person

• Live Nation's Vibee is getting into the ultra-luxury cruise business.
• The music event curator says it'll charter two superyachts for three weeklong Croatia cruises this summer.
• Like other vacation operators, Vibee says it's seen increasing demand for cruise and yacht-based trips.

Forget concerts — Live Nation wants music fans to start going on yacht vacations .

In 2023 and amid a boom in experiential travel , the entertainment company established Vibee, a music-based event curation arm. Less than a year later, Vibee has already executed affairs like a weekend Bahamas getaway headlined by singer Lionel Richie and a three-day Cabo San Lucas, Mexico party featuring DJ Tiësto.

Now, it's moving off-land and to the high seas with its new segment: Vibee Yacht Club.

This summer, Vibee says it'll charter two superyachts for three weeklong Croatia itineraries that are set to be, of course, centered on music.

Vibee is capitalizing on yet another increasingly popular concept: themed cruises.

Themed cruises can vary vastly, from Star Trek-centered sailings to itineraries helmed by famous comedians. And as of late, many of these niche voyages have been selling out faster than ever before.

Themed cruise operator Sixthman's November 2023 hip-hop itinerary sold out in less than five days with no publicly announced lineup.

Similarly, Vibee's first cruise, the 2023 EDSea — a wordplay on the electronic dance music festival Electric Daisy Carnival, or EDC — was fully booked in three days, again with an undisclosed lineup.

Armed with EDSea’s success, Vibee wants to dive deeper into the cruise segment — this time with a luxurious spin.

"We see the desire for cruise and yacht experiences continuing to rise," Harvey Cohen, president of Vibee, told Business Insider, echoing sentiments of the cruise industry's booming demand.

And not just the mass-market players: Over the last year, luxury cruise lines have also seen a rise in interest.

In its fourth-quarter earnings report from February 2024, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings said its two high-end brands, Oceania and Regent Seven Seas, had both seen "strong demand."

The latter had launched its latest $517.9 million luxury ship a few months prior, complete with caviar and a $6 million art collection.

Luxury cruises and superyachts aren’t known to be super-affordable.

Vibee says it's chartering the 141-foot-long Lupus Mare and nearly 161-foot-long Prestige for its three yacht sailings.

Vibee Yacht Club's cheapest option starts at $3,100 per person for a two-person cabin. Comparatively, EDSea's 2024 itinerary starts at $1,405 per person for a double occupancy interior cabin.

Yet, it could be a bargain for some superyacht fans: Weeklong charters for Lupus Mare start at about $71,000 a week, according to YachtCharterFleet.

Everything is better on a yacht. Champagne? Tastes better on a yacht. Cruises in general? Better on a yacht.

Going to an international music festival? Well, Vibee thinks it would be better to stay on a yacht than in a hotel.

On July 13, the first itinerary would start on day two of Ultra Europe, a popular three-day electronic dance music festival in Split, Croatia.

Following the event, the two yachts would sail to three Croatian islands before concluding in Hvar, Croatia. Along the way, the itinerary would include daytime swims, a sunset winery visit, and several parties (day and night).

Unsurprisingly, Vibee expects the itinerary to draw in younger travelers, specifically Gen Zers and millennials.

Lupus Mare is set to be chartered for two more itineraries: “Rock the Med” and “Marafiki on the Adriatic.”

A three-person cabin for both starts at $3,500 per person.

On Rock the Med, the week is set to begin with VIP tickets to a Lenny Kravitz show at the historic Pula Arena.

Afterward, it would sail to Croatian destinations with an itinerary that would include beach excursions and clubs.

Marafiki on the Adriatic isn’t centered on a single music event.

Instead, the roundtrip Split itinerary would feature on-board musical performances, daily yoga, "cultural outings," and, of course, beach clubs.

A bonus trip to Sonus Festival, a five-day rave, is an optional add-on.

Like a typical luxury cruise, travelers would have preorganized water taxis, chefs to prepare daily breakfasts and lunches, and all the yacht amenities.

The 20-cabin, 40-guest Prestige flexes indulgences like an indoor lounge, a hot tub, and a sundeck with plenty of beds.

Meanwhile, the 15-cabin, 34-guest Lupus Mare has comforts like a sauna and gym.

Travelers could wind down in the yacht's movie theater or hot tub. Or, they could take a slide into the water.

It’s no surprise Vibee is going the more sumptuous route with its itinerary-focused yacht concept.

" Revenge travel " might as well be known as "regular travel" at this point: People have continued to spend big on extravagant vacations, especially on luxury small cruise ships and trips planned around experiences and adventures.

Both are niches Vibee is trying to carve out for itself: Looking ahead, the new brand is already planning more music and sea-based vacations, Cohen told Business Insider.

First refuelling for Russia’s Akademik Lomonosov floating NPP

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactor units. In such reactors, nuclear fuel is not replaced in the same way as in standard NPPs – partial replacement of fuel once every 12-18 months. Instead, once every few years the entire reactor core is replaced with and a full load of fresh fuel.

The KLT-40S reactor cores have a number of advantages compared with standard NPPs. For the first time, a cassette core was used, which made it possible to increase the fuel cycle to 3-3.5 years before refuelling, and also reduce by one and a half times the fuel component in the cost of the electricity produced. The operating experience of the FNPP provided the basis for the design of the new series of nuclear icebreaker reactors (series 22220). Currently, three such icebreakers have been launched.

The Akademik Lomonosov was connected to the power grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020.

Electricity generation from the FNPP at the end of 2023 amounted to 194 GWh. The population of Pevek is just over 4,000 people. However, the plant can potentially provide electricity to a city with a population of up to 100,000. The FNPP solved two problems. Firstly, it replaced the retiring capacities of the Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya Thermal Power Plant, which is more than 70 years old. It also supplies power to the main mining enterprises located in western Chukotka. In September, a 490 km 110 kilovolt power transmission line was put into operation connecting Pevek and Bilibino.
