S/V OCEAN TRADER is a 2000 Voyage 380 Maxim catamaran, for sale by owner. She is an easy-handling cruising catamaran in a good condition with 3 cabin’s, master cabin has a luxury shower. She is registered (tax paid) in Kenya and has the right documentation.

This model can be called a Voyage 38 or a Maxim 38 because Maxim Yachts, from Durban South Africa, provided Voyage Yachts with the Voyage 38. These performance cruisers were built in South Africa by Maxim and distributed through Voyage Yachts. The Maxim 380 was the winner of the 2005 Cruising World Best New Catamaran under 40 Ft . The 380 got the judges’ attention with its four-burner stove, and added headroom in the galley.

There are 6 solar panels with a total of 1100 wats on top of the afterdeck. They give the perfect shade and are very functional. There is no noisy generator on board. Ray marine equipment includes a good autopilot and radar.

S/V Cheval is a 1995 Outremer 50 Standard catamaran, for sale by owner. We purchased Cheval in January 2013. As the second owners we have continuously upgraded her including her most recent upgrade late 2023 through 2024 in preparation for a pacific passage. A change of plans creates a rare opportunity to acquire this Outremer 50 standard ready to cross an ocean.

As of this writing to the best of my knowledge she is the only Outremer 50 standard currently for sale in the world. Sometimes referred to as the Porsche of catamarans this boat has the speed you would expect while being large enough to provide comfortable accommodations.

As she is only cored in the decks with solid hulls the common occurrence of water found in the cored hull at survey will not be a problem.

M/Y Fat Cat is a 2002 Endeavour Catamaran 44 Trawler Cat catamaran, for sale by owner. I love this boat as its main characteristics are she has prop pockets and 3ft draw. This is very good for cruising Florida and Bahamas, also with a narrow beam as catamarans come. We can usually find regular berths and not pay for a double.

She has fuel flow scan meters, and it is a joy to see the economy of the Yanmars. I never owned such an efficient boat with this square footage, and 1500 mile range at 8-10 knots. All work has been done in last two years, as I just purchased the boat in the Fall of 2020. Previous owner was a snow bird and rarely was down.

We are coming back home to get a bigger boat. Fat Cat has been great to us but we need more space as the kids have decided to cruise the eastern Caribbean with us. S/V Déjà Vu is a 1972 Catalac 9M catamaran, for sale by owner. A hybrid with sail/solar propulsion, its main advantages are: sustainability, silence, no fumes/engine troubles, little energy costs, easy maintaining.

After more than 30 years of experience in designing and building solar powered boats, I ventured into the combination of sail and solar propulsion for a sea/inland waterways cruising boat using only renewable energies. It should be added that I use the boat as a means of travelling! – Europe is so much richer for cruising not using only the different seas but also rivers and canals.

So I replaced the diesel engines in a well-maintained Catalac 9m built in 1972 by 2 electric motors. These have the advantage that they require hardly any maintenance and are also highly efficient in the partial load range.

S/V ASPE is a 2016 Fountaine Pajot Helia 44 Evolution catamaran, for sale by owner. ASPE is hull number #140, an Evolution model launched in 2016. She comes with with 4 cabins and 4 heads. S/V Gem is a 2006 Gemini 105MC catamaran, for sale by owner. This is a one of a kind Gemini 105mc, perfectly rigged for single/short hand sailing with furling screecher sail (self tacking), furling genoa, AND furling inmast mainsail! Sparcraft mast, boom and standing rigging installed in 2015, along with a new Yanmar 30hp inboard engine with low running hours (+-1400h).

All systems have been maintained meticulously, and ongoing cosmetic maintenance is currently being carried out (interior teak, gelcoat polishing etc). We have not spared any expense since we’ve owned her. We had a survey carried out last year and no serious issues were found. Small finding have been sorted out since the survey (small sail repair, new genoa line, service of liferaft and fire fighting equipment). All up to date!

Included in the sale is a berth at the beautiful Preveza Marina, Greece. It is valid from date of listing until July 2024. Preveza is a wonderful town at the door of the Ionian Islands. Designers of the Lagoon 42, Marc Van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot-Prevost reproduced the winning formula in a smaller boat.

S/V New World is a 2009 Leopard 46 catamaran, for sale by owner.

Launched in 2009, New World has been consistently lived on full time by a family of 4 since early 2020. She has sailed between the Chesapeake Bay on USA east coast and Grenada in the southern Caribbean while visiting all the islands in between. She has been updated and maintained to safely transport her family while having all the comforts including 2600 watts of solar with 1200 ah of lithium, Starlink, watermaker, washing machine, feathering props, downwind sail, and plenty of spare parts (including spare saildrive).

S/V Ego Domi is a 2003 Royal Cape 45 catamaran, for sale by owner. A fantastic family boat, Ego Domi is a bluewater cruising catamaran built in 2003 at Durban, South Africa. She was sailed across the Atlantic to Florida in 2003 by the original owner and never entered into the charter trade.

This is a large, well-appointed catamaran. Royal Cape catamarans are a very good value, are built with solid construction and are well-tried cruising boats. They are built very tough, as they were designed to handle conditions off the African East coast. This boat is great in rough seas with virtually no bridge deck slap due to the buoyancy of the hulls. Being well built, one shouldn’t expect a racing catamaran, but then again, if you’re looking for a catamaran with a large interior volume, which will keep 8 or so guests in consummate comfort, you could make worst choices than this RCC.

Originally built with fiberglass over a wood core as a 5 cabin and 5 head charter boat, she was converted to 4 cabins and 4 heads in 2005 by the previous owners. The 5th cabin was converted into a tool / spare parts/storage room while the 5th head was converted into a battery storage room. During conversion, it was noted that the laminated bulkheads were 2” thick; main bulkhead is 3” in places.

S/V Sonder is a 2019 Lagoon 42 catamaran, owner’s version (3 cabins), offered by her original owners, a husband and wife team, who outfitted Sonder for a live aboard sabbatical with extended, remote, blue water cruising in mind. No pets, no smokers, and never chartered, and with meticulous investments in professional maintenance and care, Sonder looks almost new in many respects.

S/V Beguiler is a 2001 Endeavour 44 SailCat catamaran, for sale by owner. Check out our rare 44 ft Endeavour sailing catamaran, manufactured in Clearwater, Florida. Endeavour’s quality craftsmanship has stood the test of time.

She looks amazing and was built for extended cruising and not the charter market, as is evident in its abundance of storage. We have owned Beguiler for 10 years, and used her for cruising the Bahamas every winter. Her previous 13 years were spent in the summers on Lake Ontario. Both owners are engineers, and coast guard auxiliary members and thus, she has lots of redundancy, and spares, and safety gear ,and a detailed log book. Yearly, she has been waxed, and her sails inspected.

This vessel has incredible head room and spaciousness with unparalleled views from the helm seat. The helmsman and crew all have plenty of space in the cockpit with its massive hardtop bimini and full enclosure for inclement weather. If you’re into easy sailing, then this is the catamaran for you, as all lines lead to the helm with a self tacking jib. Power winches make raising the sails a one person job and power davits make raising the dinghy easy. Fuel efficiency when motor sailing is extremely low at 0.5 gal per hr at 6 knots.

Engine cylinders have excellent compressions. Starts right up and purr like kittens. Good oil analysis results for both engines and generator. New engine batteries and generator battery. New trampoline and new bimini in the works.

S/V Majestic is a 1999 St Francis 44 Mk II catamaran, for sale by owner. She is a true blue water cruising boat, built in South Africa and sailed across the Atlantic on her own hulls in 1999. The boat is very well and strongly built with vacuum bagged Divinycell foam core and Vinylester Resin used throughout. All bulkheads are glassed and vacuum bagged, with unidirectional fiberglass. Different from the benefits of sailing, of course, there’s lots to entice a buyer with from expanded living areas, stability, storage capabilities, and fuel efficiency.

Far from being known as a new trend, the catamaran design has been around since 5th Century India. Sailing catamarans have been a popular choice for cruisers for years, but adding full power to it has really become popular in the last decade.

What is a power catamaran?

Power catamarans are simply defined as a multi-hull power boats. Power Catamarans have become increasingly popular in recent decades among recreational boaters for their stability, maneuverability, and roomy, comfortable ride. Although sailing catamarans have been on the seas for centuries, perhaps millennia, recreational power catamarans got their start in the 1970s.

Who invented the catamaran boat?

Catamarans originated with Polynesian people who built catamarans and outrigger canoes to travel to distant islands of the Pacific and Indian Oceans and by fishermen in Tamil Nardu, India for their stability in various sea conditions. Western development of a catamaran vessel began in the mid 1600s, to allow faster sailing in shallower waters and lighter wind, but didn’t meet with commercial success, and it wasn’t until the 1800s that further development led to the filing of a US Patent. Power catamarans were developed in the early 20th century as submarine salvage vessels and high-speed military transport vessels. The more recent development of the recreational power catamaran combined the best features of a motor yacht - luxurious living and deck area with the stability, speed, and efficiencies of a catamaran. One of the most popular examples is the 43ft Lagoon.

What are some types of catamarans?

Power or Sailing, Trimaran, Fishing (World Cat, Invincible, Barker, Calcutta, Insetta, and the custom Renaissance Prowler are among today’s best, offering stability, improved ride in rough seas, and an open deck layout), Cruising, Passenger (Ferries), Commercial/Industrial, Military, Security & Tactical Support, TrawlerCats, and Long-Range Luxury Catamaran Yachts are some of the catamarans on the water today.

What is the difference between conventional, wave-piercing, and SWATH catamaran hulls?

Traditional catamaran hulls are more banana-shaped, designed to ride on top of waves, with the geometry of the vessel creating stability, whereas the wave-piercing hulls extend forward and are reversed—longer at bottom than top/bow and sharper, allowing them to slice through waves for greater speed and less pitching, due to their lower buoyancy. More racing catamarans are built with wave-piercing hull technologies for speed advantages. Cruising catamarans in the superyacht category are utilizing wave-piercing hulls for the smoothness and performance advantages. Large passenger ferries and military catamaran ships utilize this type of hull for its speed and smooth ride through waves; the bridge deck may be configured like a regular v-hull, allowing it to penetrate wave crests. The SWATH (small water-plane area twin hull) catamarans employ tubular, submarine-like hulls that are completely submerged and connected by pylons to the bridge deck using a small cross section at the waterline. This type of hull was invented in the mid-1930s and is used for large research vessels and military craft for running in heavy seas as displacement volume is completely below waterline. This enables the ship to resist pitch and heaving, as there is no possibility of hull planing. Today’s builders of cruising power catamarans utilize the best hull technologies for increased efficiencies and safety.

Is a pontoon boat a type of catamaran?

Depending on boat size, pontoon boats ride on 2 or 3 aluminum flotation tubes called pontoons, that support and are covered by the open deck, and are not accessible from the deck; they serve to float the boat. A railing with fence paneling or seating upholstery runs along the deck perimeter, and they are typically outfitted for lounging and entertaining (nicknamed “party barges”), though many today are luxurious, and as speedy as runabouts and used for watersports. There are two types of pontoons: recreational and houseboats. Catamarans differ greatly in that the main deck rests on 2 or 3 (trimaran) hulls that are accessible living and/or storage space, and catamarans can be built with a flybridge deck. The catamaran hull is built for cruising/running offshore and inshore waterways, whereas the pontoon boats are open deck boats primarily designed for lakes, bays, rivers that are quieter waters. Catamarans tend to be wider and larger than pontoon boats, but each is a distinct category with its own purpose and market. Pontoons tend to serve the entry-level family recreational market. Both have seen an increase in popularity in the recreational boating industry.

Are power catamarans better than monohull powerboats?

Catamarans offer more deck and interior space per foot than monohulls, meaning a 40ft powercat can have as much space (in and out) as a 50ft monohull powerboat. Even a smaller powercat can have easily accessed 3-4 cabins with opening ports in hull windows for ventilation and light, plus the greater privacy of separate hull space, an ideal feature for charters. Inherently, the wide-apart hull configuration provides a more stable platform while underway or to stay level at anchor, unlike a monohull that can roll. Having twin engines and propellers set wide apart allows catamarans greater maneuverability and a shallower draft for island cruising—some catamarans can be beached! Having two hulls creates inherent redundancy with engines, props, water pumps, and extra space for additional equipment like generators, watermakers, and more. Catamarans with wave-piercing hulls have even greater efficiencies.

Of course, there are some disadvantages, as with any category of vessel. One drawback is the cost to store and maintain a catamaran is higher, as marina dockage isn’t always accommodating of the catamaran’s greater beam and with two hulls/engines, maintenance and detailing costs may double. Haul-out costs are higher as well. The preference of one type of boat over another is completely personal; which best meets your priorities and usage plans? Do a cost benefit analysis—does the boat’s features and benefits outweigh any drawbacks?

What are the most popular current brands of cruising power catamarans?

Current brands to consider are Lagoon, Leopard (Robertson & Caine), Fountaine-Pajot, Sunreef, Nautitech, Horizon, Aquila, Makai, Bali Catspace MY, Hudson Powercat, Aspen Power Catamarans, Horizon, Endeavour TrawlerCat, Heliotrope 48, and the Leen 56 (a new trimaran long range cruiser and liveaboard). PDQ is no longer in production, but still popular, especially for cruising the eastern Great Loop. Common to all are the alfresco relaxation deck areas that seamlessly blend with interior deck area. There are also many one-of-a-kind custom power catamarans.

What does a 43-45 ft power catamaran cost?

Pre-owned 43-45ft power catamarans from 2010 to 2019 ranged in price from $398,000 to $1,075,000 for a median of $736,500. The main brands were Leopard, Fountaine Pajot, Aquila, and Lagoon. From 2000 to 2009, the price ranged from $202,000 to $528,000 for a median of $365,000. Main brands were Leopard, Fountaine Pajot, and Lagoon. Of course, there are other costs to consider, such as marina dockage, service and maintenance including haul-outs, and insurance, to mention a few.

What are the best power catamarans for offshore cruising?

According to the Oct 2020 issue of Passagemaker magazine, the Nautitech 47 power catamaran features load-carrying semi-displacement hulls give the Nautitech 47 a distinct performance advantage for bluewater (ocean) cruising. Other recommended models are the new Leen 56 trimaran long range cruiser designed for Transatlantic voyages. The main diesel engine is in the center hull and electric drives are in the two outer hulls (called amas). The Leopard 53 Powercat can be run from the lower helm with excellent visibility in air-conditioned comfort and features 6’8” and 6’10” headroom! Bali Catspace Motor Yacht (Catana Group) is nearly 39ft of luxurious outside/inside living space. Utilizing the latest innovations, the shape of her hulls and integral deck gives this power catamaran excellent seakeeping qualities. The 60 Sunreef Power is a versatile, modern motoryacht in Sunreef Yachts’ sporty Power line-up of catamarans in 60, 70, 80, and 100ft lengths. These are just a few examples. The House passed a TikTok ban bill. But is the app really a national security threat?

Devotees of TikTok gather at the Capitol in Washington, as the House passed a bill that would lead to a nationwide ban of the popular video app if its China-based owner doesn't sell.

The House of Representatives passed legislation on Wednesday giving TikTok two choices: find a buyer for the immensely popular video app, or face a nationwide ban in the U.S.

President Biden has indicated he would sign the law, but first it must clear the Senate, where it faces an uncertain future. Several other anti-TikTok efforts in the Senate have stalled, and it is too soon to tell whether the House's legislation will meet a different fate.

Why the House voted to ban TikTok and what could come next

Whatever happens with this measure, it marks the first time a chamber of Congress has passed a bill that could shut down a social media platform, a move that civil liberties advocates say tramples on the free speech rights of millions of American users.

TikTok, which is owned by Beijing-based tech giant ByteDance, views the House legislation as an existential threat but not a novel attack, since the social media app has fended off numerous other attempts to put it out of business.

So what is different this time?

Here's a breakdown of what you need to know.

What exactly does the House bill do?

The bill gives ByteDance six months to find a buyer for TikTok.

If the company cannot sell the app in that time, it will become illegal for app stores and web-hosting companies to offer TikTok, as long as it remains under the control of a "foreign adversary."

That, in turn, would force Apple and Google to remove TikTok from app stores. It would also require internet service providers to make TikTok inaccessible on internet browsers in the U.S.

There is no way to make TikTok disappear for the 170 million Americans who have already downloaded it. But removing TikTok from app stores would mean that users would not be able to download any further software updates. And experts say without the ability to update regularly, the app would become slow, glitchy, buggy and rife with other problems to the point where using it at all would be just about impossible.

In other words, TikTok would die a slow, gradual death, rather than a swift demise.

What will the House bill mean for TikTok users?

In the short term, users will likely not notice any changes. The app will work as it always does for the millions of Americans who enjoy it.

And even if the Senate passes a companion bill, and Biden signs it into law, there is a six-month deadline to sell, which could be prolonged by court challenges.

Trump's TikTok Deal: What Just Happened And Why Does It Matter?

In the event that TikTok does become illegal in the U.S., it would be tricky to access the app, but there will be workarounds.

People could turn to virtual private networks, or VPNs, to shield their location and get past restrictions. The technique is popular in places like Russia and China, where governments have prohibited many popular internet apps and services.

Who could buy TikTok if ByteDance is forced to sell?

Very few companies.

As one of the most popular social media apps in the world, ByteDance would sell TikTok at a hefty price. TikTok is likely worth tens of billions of dollars, an amount only the biggest tech companies — like Google, Meta, Microsoft or Amazon — could afford.

But the prospect of TikTok being acquired by a Big Tech firm raises instant antitrust concerns, since the Biden administration has taken a tough stance against tech industry mergers that serve to inflate the size and influence of already massive companies.

What's more, TikTok's sale would require the approval of China, which has said it would strongly oppose the forced sale of its first-ever global sensation of an app.

As the Senate considers a companion bill, it is possible that lawmakers in Washington would use the House bill as leverage to try to force TikTok to find a non-Chinese buyer, but talks over selling the app have been going on without a resolution for years.

What is the case that TikTok poses a national security risk?

Many in Washington, including lawmakers from both parties and top intelligence officials, fear the Chinese government could use TikTok to spy on Americans, push pro-China propaganda, or use the service to interfere in U.S. elections.

To date, lawmakers have not offered any evidence of the Chinese Communist Party using TikTok as a weapon against American interests.

Some critics of the bill say it is misguided if the goal is keeping Americans' data out of the hands of the Chinese government.

"The same kind of data that are collected by TikTok can easily be obtained by anyone who wants them by data aggregators and data brokers," said Jameel Jaffer , executive director of the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University.

"The ban will be ineffective because China can access the same kind of information about Americans without TikTok," he said.

But have there been developments that have troubled officials in Washington?

ByteDance admitted in 2022 that former employees — but not government officials — had surveilled Americans on TikTok, including several journalists who were writing critical stories about the company.

And last year, a former ByteDance executive said in a court filing that the Chinese government has in the past been granted a "superuser" credential on TikTok, and that it was used to spy on Hong Kong protesters in 2018, something the company denies.

While neither incident shows that the Chinese government has used TikTok for espionage or disinformation campaigns on U.S. users, the developments have fueled a growing worry that Beijing could order that the app's algorithm be manipulated to shape what millions of American users see when they scroll.

What has TikTok said in response?

TikTok has long claimed it has never received an inquiry for Americans' data from Chinese authorities, saying it would deny any such request.

The company has also touted an initiative dubbed "Project Texas," saying that all U.S. user data has been transferred to servers controlled by Austin-based software company Oracle. TikTok also says Americans' data is now being monitored by third-party auditors in the U.S.

TikTok officials go on a public charm offensive amid a stalemate in Biden White House

The plan, essentially a data firewall, was intended to ensure that Chinese officials cannot access Americans' personal information.

But under Chinese law, companies still have to turn over personal user data once it is sought by government officials.

This is why national security officials in Washington, who have been investigating TikTok's ties to Beijing for five years, have not approved the plan.

There is a consensus in the White House that any move TikTok takes short of complete divestiture from China is unacceptable.

If the House bill eventually becomes law, won't there be a legal challenge?

It is all but certain that TikTok will try to have a ban overturned in the courts.

Legal experts say shutting down a social media platform in the name of national security is something that can only be accomplished if the security threat is overwhelming.

Otherwise, it will likely be considered an infringement of the First Amendment rights of millions of Americans, if the government cannot show that the speech constraint is justified.

"Restricting Americans' right to access information or ideas on a media platform from abroad implicates the First Amendment. There's really no dispute about that," said Jaffer with the Knight First Amendment Institute

Previous attempts to shutter TikTok in the U.S. have not been successful.

Three separate federal district judges have blocked efforts to ban TikTok — two courts during the Trump administration, and one U.S. court more recently in Montana.

Judge Wendy Beetlestone found in 2020 that TikTok's national security threat is "phrased in the hypothetical."

In late 2023, judge Donald Molloy said that a crusade by officials in Montana to block TikTok within the state's borders had a "pervasive undertone of anti-Chinese sentiment."

Many constitutional scholars say banning TikTok requires clearing nearly insurmountable legal hurdles.

What evidence does the government have against TikTok?

If officials in Washington declassify national security information about TikTok, that could change the public's understanding of the app's threat.

Yet some lawmakers are already questioning the basis for targeting TikTok.

A handful of members of Congress who left a closed-door briefing about TikTok with top national security officials in the Biden administration a day before the House vote said officials did not back up the notion that TikTok is dangerous with any new information.

"Not a single thing we heard in today's classified briefing was specific to TikTok," Sara Jacobs, a Democratic from California told the Associated Press. "These are things that are happening on all social media platforms."

If the bill eventually becomes law and ends up in court, the government will have to demonstrate on what basis it is making a national security case against TikTok, Jaffer said.

"You can't restrict Americans' constitutional rights on the basis of secrets," he said.
