Sailing Qualifications

To skipper a bareboat charter or flotilla yacht, you need to hold a practical sailing certificate equivalent to RYA Day Skipper Practical qualification or RYA International Certificate of Competence (ICC) . For charters in Greece, you must now have the ICC certificate . You must also be assisted by at least one competent crew member over the age of 18.

The port authorities in Greece are now insisting on one of the following practical certificates: RYA ICC (International Certificate of Competence), RYA Coastal, RYA Yachtmaster, ASA IPC (International Proficiency Certificate) or the IYT (International Yacht Training) Passport. If you hold an RYA Day Skipper or ASA104 it will no longer be accepted and you need to obtain either an ICC or IPC from the corresponding issuing body (RYA or ASA). If your RYA Coastal/Yachtmaster or ASA105/106 certificate is more than 12 years old and does not have a photo ID, then we would also strongly advise applying for an ICC or IPC. If you are a member of the RYA or ASA, you may qualify for a discount or free certificate, otherwise, you will have to pay. The approximate cost is £50. Please use this link - RYA application for the ICC or ASA application for the IPC.

For charters in Croatia, Malta and the Canaries , at least one member of the crew or the skipper will also need a VHF licence .

RYA qualifications can be obtained by RYA sailing schools in the UK or alternatively choose from one of our overseas centres in Gibraltar, Greece or Turkey .

For  Seychelles,  the local authorities require an ICC for the skipper of a bareboat or flotilla yacht charter.

For Caribbean and Tropical charters, formal qualifications are not compulsory, however, you should be Day Skipper standard and be assisted by at least one competent crew . A brief sailing resume should be provided to outline your experience.

For Thailand A Day Skipper qualification is required as a minimum and you must have at least 3 weeks of skippering experience prior to your charter. A VHF qualification is compulsory.

If you don't hold the relevant qualifications then why not add a skipper ?

Sailing Levels

Yacht Charter from Fethiye & Gocek

Enjoy a relaxed sailing holiday in the Gulf of Fethiye with short passages and protected anchorages.

The Gulf of Fethiye is a yachtsman’s paradise with so many sheltered anchorages, coves and islands with crystal clear water and protected coves for a tranquil night on anchor. The Gulf of Fethiye is a stunning setting for a relaxed sailing holiday in an unspoilt area, with pine covered fjord-like anchorages with names such as Four Fathom Bay, Ruin Bay, Wall Bay and Tomb Bay, evidence of an ancient Lycian civilization.

Start your yacht charter from Fethiye or Göcek, both easily reached from Dalaman airport. Fethiye is a friendly harbour town with waterfront boulevard and pedestrianised town centre lined with tavernas and shops selling everything from carpets to spices. Göcek is a yachting centre but has lost none of its authentic Turkish charm.

This sailing holiday is perfect for families with children. The crystal clear water in sheltered coves makes swimming and snorkelling a true delight.

Göcek Yacht Charter

Gocek is one of the great places in Turkey to go sailing or crusing on a luxury yacht. It is is a well-known and beautiful yachting spot and is a favourite holiday destination for yacht charter enthusiasts. This bustling town is a favourite watering-hole of well-heeled tourists and celebrities. This charming yacht charter holiday resort is home to some 4,000 inhabitants and is known for its warm and friendly atmosphere.

Gocek is just a short 15-minute drive from the International Airport in Dalaman and can be accessed in one hour if you are coming from Istanbul. Gocek is an upscale yachting destination and the top choice if you want to explore and discover an elegant mix of impressive cultural treasures and enchanting natural settings.

A Yacht Charter Vacation Around Gocek

What is most notable about Gocek is its strict adherence to rigid development and construction regulations that are geared towards the protection of the city’s rich cultural heritage and tradition. Despite being a mainstream tourist centre in the region, the main attractions of this popular yacht charter holiday destination are its archaeological structures and historical landmarks, which is well-preserved and protected.

Gocek is originally a small farming village that transformed into an upscale holiday resort. The locals are still actively engaged in farming despite the heightened and fast-paced activities in the tourist centres. Local houses that are mostly located just a short distance from the resort’s famed promenade still have their verdant gardens where fresh vegetables are grown by the residents. The sidewalks along this section of the town is teeming with lemon, grapefruit, tangerine and orange trees, and this gives Gocek its unique panorama, a natural allure that is not usually present in other popular yacht charter destinations in Turkey.

The view at the waterfront is indicative of the popularity of Gocek in yacht charter circles. The entire bay and its 4 marinas are teeming with all kinds of boats, ranging from the ordinary dinghies to the impressive luxury yachts and superyachts.

Popular Places in Gocek Turkey

Just like in Fethiye and Marmaris, a typical holiday in the rustic town of Gocek is a journey to the storied past of Turkey. Yacht charter aficionados and regular tourists will have their hands full covering popular attractions and important destinations that feature archaeological structures and relics dating as far back as the Lycian civilization.

Gocek is not your usual sprawling tourist centre and majority of shops and boutiques and other important establishments and facilities are concentrated on a particular stretch of road that traverses the town. It is along this main street where you can find the 3 main supermarkets of Gocek as well as an array of clothes boutiques, gift shops and bazaars, outlets for sailing provisions. This is the main reason why most sailors go on a whistle-stop in this town for their yachting resupply.

Dining experience in Gocek is generally eclectic. Fine restaurants and other food venues serve a wide range of local dishes as well as international menus. Gocek is also home to an array of food outlets that specialize in Turkish cuisine, local pastry shops and the ubiquitous food shops that offer delectable pitas and kebabs.

Gocek Yacht Charter Enquiry

Hi Trina - I want to pass along our thanks for a lovely time on the Mare Nostrum. Not only is she a magnificent boat (new, well kept, lots of outdoor space, equal sized and lovely room with beautiful bathrooms) that is well equipped (jet ski, kayak, water ski), but the service and attention of Galip (the owner who was with us the entire trip!) and his team was truly EXCEPTIONAL!!! From meals that would be hard to find in the nicest restaurants to daily adventures experiencing the local flavors and personality, we could not have been happier. We have been all over the world with our family and we would have to say that our trip on the Mare Nostrum surely has been one of the best. Our hearty thanks!
